Tumblr media
Another day hunting, another day without finding any game, everyone was starving back at the cabin, and the frustration Nat felt was sickening.
And the team worshipping Lottie and going as far as saying that Lottie was providing more food than her made Natalie see red.
Travis wasn't helping much these days, grieving his little brother, long story short, everyone was on edge, you more than anyone else.
Nobody really knew how much you were struggling, you tried to open up with Natalie once and she didn't really catch up on the way you felt, she just thought you were really sad that day and comforted you.
But it was deeper than that, at first when you all got stranded, you were full of life, hopeful to get rescued and go on with your life, but as the days, the weeks and the moths went by, the bright glimmer in your eyes dimmed gradually, only leaving a hint of emotions when you cried, you felt drained, tired and sick, not the type of tired that a good night of sleep could fix and not the type of sick that painkillers could tame.
And then, with all the things you've seen, all the things you did, it was all in order to survive of course, but you still did it, you did it.
As time went by you started to think about the way you would be way more useful if you died, not only you wouldn't have to eat food, leaving more for your teammates, but you also would become food, and a part of you hoped that someday you'll become useful to the others.
You thought and you even dreamed about it, not feeling pain anymore, not being completely useless anymore, and one day, you took matters into your own hands.
That day, a shivering Natalie, fresh out of another failed hunt, looked for you in the cabin, simply to spend some time with you since she was gone in the snow the whole day, she searched and searched but you were nowhere to be seen.
"Mari? Have you seen Y/N" Natalie asked the girl who was busy cooking something definitely not nutritious enough to make the team feel full, Mari shrugged "I saw her this morning, she was going out, I thought she was looking for you"
Nat frowned, thanking Mari and going into the living room, a bunch of the girls sat there around the fire, and of course, you weren't there
"God..." Shauna spoke up, looking around the room "Has anyone seen my knife? I think I lost it"
The others shrugged as Natalie reached for the door, searching for you outside.
She was used to the ironically burning cold, but still, it wasn't pleasant.
Walking around the outside of the cabin she couldn't help but curse you and hope you were okay at the same time.
After a faint noise she froze in her spot, paying attention to her surroundings, and then her eyes widened when she heard a loud sob.
Looking around, she realized that there was only one place the cries could come from, the tiny wooden shelter next to the cabin.
As she walked closer to it the noises just got louder and louder, and she was sure that it was you, she could recognize your voice everywhere after all, but "why is she crying?" Nat kept thinking.
When she entered the shed, she couldn't believe her eyes, yes, you were there, but Shauna's knife was there as well, covered in blood.
At first her mind wanted to believe that you found game on your way to join Nat in her daily hunt, and you were just cutting up pieces of deer meat, but when she noticed your sleeves rolled up and deep vertical slits on your wrists all the hope in her mind was gone.
She was losing you.
And you yourself, couldn't feel a thing, after the painful cuts, you found a certain peace in the warm feeling of blood pouring out of your veins, a bold contrast compared to the freezing weather.
Nat cursed, she was shocked, but she knew that she couldn't allow herself to be in shock, she had to help, she had to do something .
She was losing you.
"Hey! Hey! Can you hear me? Please baby, can you hear me?" She cried out kneeling next to your body
You weren't completely unconscious, wobbling between the two worlds, and in a moment of consciousness, the only thing you could say was "Nat..."
She instantly replied, eagerly trying to get some more words from you "What baby?"
"You can... when it's time, you can...you can eat me, you have my permission...please do it Nat, you deserve to live"
Natalie couldn't believe the words coming out of your mouth "No, no, don't say that, you are gonna be okay, you're gonna be fine"
And in that moment your vision went black.
She lost you.
For three hours. The worst three hours of her life.
As soon as you passed out, she picked you up and brought you back inside.
After seeing your conditions everyone was alarmed, Tai quickly stitched you up as best as she could, and then Nat proceeded to clean you up from all the blood you lost.
Coach Ben let the girls lay you down in his small room, and after that they all collectively decided to leave you alone with Nat for a while.
She held your hand the whole time, clinging to the feeling that you weren't gone, you couldn't be gone, your heart was still beating, a faint beating, but it was working.
When you opened your eyes, she was there, squeezing your hand with her own, eyes closed and a tear stained face
Just like in the movies you thought, but you weren't in a safe hospital at the end of a movie, you were at the start of your little personal hell.
And even when she held you tightly after she noticed your wide eyes, you couldn't help but wish you were somewhere else.
After all, maybe she really lost you that day.
A/N: I think I just poured my soul into this fic. Hope you enjoyed, stay safe <3

I’m gonna rank the Yellowjackets surviving adults from the most normal to the most unhinged based on how well they’re coping with trauma. Will try not to spoil the newest episode but no promises. It’s just the four main gals for now, I’ll add Lottie and possibly redacted when I get a better idea of who they are now.
In fourth place we have Natalie. On a scale from zero to, well, Shauna, Natalie definitely has had the most understandable reaction to going through hell: she became a lonely self-loathing addict with hyperfixations and rage issues. Back in the day Nat had such a strong moral compass, and she was most of all a very kind person. Even when she did something iffy, she did it out of love, fear or self-preservation, never malice though. All she ever wanted was to fix things. And sure she’s a wreck now, but that morality is still strong and that’s why she’s the only one who is actively trying (and failing) to face her past, and the guilt is eating her up inside. She’s the only one out of the group that I actually wish will get some sort of peace and closure in the end. (Also have you seen how 🤏 Juliette Lewis is?! If you don’t want to scoop up long-suffering, washed-up Nat in your arms and tell her everything’s gonna be okay I do not trust you.)
In third place there’s Misty, and please let is sit for a moment that Misty fucking Quigley isn’t in first place on the crazy scale. Did she even went through trauma, or was she just like that to begin with? Did she commit all those crimes because she’s evil, or because she’s the saddest, loneliest, most pathetic little wet rat? And what crimes, really? Some sabotaging, light stalking, poisoning, manipulating, disposing of a body, the occasional murder and recreational cannibalism? Poor wretched Misty, cursed to be rejected and ridiculed by the people she loves only because she happens to be a bit more passionate than average. Isn’t that punishment enough, I ask you? Maybe one day Nat will recognize her good qualities – she’s smart, handy in a crisis, she’s ride or die, she’s kind to animals unlike SOMEONE higher on this list! And then she’ll be finally accepted in the inner circle and live happily ever after. Maybe she’ll sacrifice herself and die in a blaze of glory. Maybe (probably) she’ll drown in a hole like the mangy little critter she is. But I can’t help rooting for her.
In second place we have Taissa! I’m SO fascinated by her. Because Tai is also a good person, or at the very least strives to be. She’s a natural leader, she’s always stepping up, making sure everything is fair and accounted for, she’s always pushing the others to be better. And yet there’s this rage inside her that scares her shitless, and we still don’t know what’s the deal with her past and the Man with No Eyes, but add that to all the shit that happened in the woods and you have an explosive trauma cocktail. Unlike Nat who no matter what will sit with her pain and consume or be consumed by it, Tai has taken all her ugly parts, cut them off and locked them in a dark box somewhere, letting them fester. And that might have worked for a while after they were rescued, but now that she’s going through some real stress and compromising her morality that darkness is just pouring out and chopping her up into bloody little pieces. Currently Taissa is a giant fucking mess and still it took dooming her marriage, traumatizing her child, beheading the family dog and hallucinating to the point she no longer knows what’s real – to even begin to admit that she miiiight not be in control. And so we have Shadow!Taissa, born of denial and shame and avoidance. And who is she? For now we only know that she doesn’t identify as Taissa at all, she is quite literally her antithesis, and that she embraces the supernatural darkness that Tai tries to rationalize. I have no idea how this is gonna go, the ideal outcome would be for the two halves to accept and embrace each other and form a whole person again. We’ll see.
In first place there’s ✨Ms. Shauna Sadecki✨, and I could just leave it at this. Because see, Misty isn’t unhinged, she’s quite predictable in her madness. Shauna is the proverbial horse loose in a hospital, we don’t have a fucking idea what she’s gonna do next and neither does she. Mark my words, we’ve just began to scratch the surface of what makes Shauna tick, and she’s just gonna get more and more deranged. Shauna who tries and tries and tries to be normal, in a house full of mementos of the best friend she betrayed and consumed, ignoring her, obsessed with her, haunted by her. With a kid she loves so much she hates her, or maybe she’s never been capable of loving, she can’t tell anymore. With a husband too good for her and too bland and stupid for her, who knows everything about her and yet doesn’t know her at all. Shauna chopping up rabbits, Shauna chopping up people, Shauna the butcher. The thrill of it all, the banality of it all. The darkness and bloodlust purring inside her, and she’s so close to letting go, to giving herself whole to it. Frankly what Shauna needs is going to jail and getting a LOT of therapy in the process. What I need though, is cannibal serial killer Shauna. I deserve cannibal serial killer Shauna. I want her unhinged, I want her to go on a rampage. Please, I’ve been so fucking good.

Celebrating Black Authors on Black History Month: Romance Picks
Must Love Books by Shauna Robinson
Meet Nora Hughes—the overworked, underpaid, last bookish assistant standing. At least for now.
When Nora landed an editorial assistant position at Parsons Press, it was her first step towards The Dream Job. Because, honestly, is there anything dreamier than making books for a living? But after five years of lunch orders, finicky authors, and per my last emails, Nora has come to one grand conclusion: Dream Jobs do not exist.
With her life spiraling and the Parsons staff sinking, Nora gets hit with even worse news. Parsons is cutting her already unlivable salary. Unable to afford her rent and without even the novels she once loved as a comfort, Nora decides to moonlight for a rival publisher to make ends meet…and maybe poach some Parsons' authors along the way.
But when Andrew Santos, a bestselling Parsons author no one can afford to lose is thrown into the mix, Nora has to decide where her loyalties lie. Her new Dream Job, ever-optimistic Andrew, or...herself and her future.
And They Lived Happily Ever After by Therese Beharrie
One unexpected kiss . . . Successful romance author Gaia Anders has a secret: anything she dreams at night is magically written into her bestselling novels. After a lonely childhood in foster care, her dream life is the only one she trusts. Gaia’s waking life just can’t compare—until she gets caught in one utterly surprising, crazy-passionate, real-life kiss . . . One near-perfect guy . . . Workaholic businessman Jacob Scott has had a crush on his brother’s best friend, Gaia, since forever—but he never expected to literally share her dreams. Living out their magical nighttime fantasies is explosive, but it’s their waking desire turning his single-minded ways upside down. It’s making him want a future he didn’t think was possible . . . One dream that could come true . . . But Gaia has secrets from her past she won't reveal. And Jacob's attempts to keep the peace in his own fractured family puts him up against her deepest fears. Soon, they’re facing hard truths about who they are and what they’re running from. And the only way to break this curse is realizing true love's real-life power . . .
Rebel by Beverly Jenkins
Valinda Lacey's mission in the steamy heart of New Orleans is to help the newly emancipated community survive and flourish. But soon she discovers that here, freedom can also mean danger. When thugs destroy the school she has set up and then target her, Valinda runs for her life—and straight into the arms of Captain Drake LeVeq. As an architect from an old New Orleans family, Drake has a deeply personal interest in rebuilding the city. Raised by strong women, he recognizes Valinda's determination. And he can't stop admiring—or wanting—her. But when Valinda's father demands she return home to marry a man she doesn't love, her daring rebellion draws Drake into an irresistible intrigue.
Dear Haiti, Love Alaine by Maika Moulite, Maritza Moulite
When a school presentation goes very wrong, Alaine Beauparlant finds herself suspended, shipped off to Haiti and writing the report of a lifetime… You might ask the obvious question: What do I, a seventeen-year-old Haitian American from Miami with way too little life experience, have to say about anything? Actually, a lot. Thanks to “the incident” (don’t ask), I'm spending the next two months doing what my school is calling a "spring volunteer immersion project.” It’s definitely no vacation. I’m toiling away under the ever-watchful eyes of Tati Estelle at her new nonprofit. And my lean-in queen of a mother is even here to make sure I do things right. Or she might just be lying low to dodge the media sharks after a much more public incident of her own…and to hide a rather devastating secret. All things considered, there are some pretty nice perks…like flirting with Tati’s distractingly cute intern, getting actual face time with my mom and experiencing Haiti for the first time. I’m even exploring my family’s history—which happens to be loaded with betrayals, superstitions and possibly even a family curse. You know, typical drama. But it's nothing I can't handle.

You Don’t Believe Me
Entry 1- Five Days since the World Died.
You wouldn’t believe it Notebook; I’m now part of a group!
I was just minding my own business around town when the people started following me. Soon, they surrounded me! I didn’t want to kill them; though Justin did make a point to explain to me that they’re already dead.
No one knows what they are, what happened to them, but Justin calls them Fleshies and they were once just like us.
I told them, I don’t want to kill the people, but Thomas handed me a gun. He told me that I have no choice and that’s the only way I’ll survive. I don’t want to lay my hands on a gun ever again.
The Fleshies were all around me; I couldn’t push them away, I couldn’t run. I was done for. I closed my eyes and accepted my fate.
I heard gunfire.
I opened my eyes.
The Fleshies were following the sound! A man was standing a ways down the street, gun pointed at the sky, firing.
I watched in awe.
He put away his gun and grabbed the large knife from his belt. He proceeded to slice into all the Fleshies’ heads, watching them fall to the ground motionless.
After all the Fleshies fell dead, the man ran up to me and held out his hand.
“There won’t be much time until more come, come with me!” he commanded.
I took his hand and he immediately took off running with me in tow, trying hard to keep up with my short legs. He tugged me along for what felt like hours.
“COME ON!!” A yell rang out through the air.
Suddenly I was swept off my feet and plopped down on something metal. I looked around me; I was on the back of a pickup truck! Plus, to make matters better, there were two people in the front seats. The guys started yelling curse words through the glassless back window at the man who saved me, trying to figure out why I was there. I then introduced myself as Cameron, though you already know my name, Notebook. I then learned theirs! The man who saved me is Tony; he’s got one brown eye and the other is green. The guy with sideburns is Devin; he’s driving the truck. The other guy in the front seat was Justin; he’s got cool looking white hair! He looks like the youngest of them to me. They told me they have some other people in their group and that I’m a part of it now! I was really hoping that anyway, seeing as I have nowhere else to go.
I couldn’t help but giggle when they told me their group name: “The Power Rangers!”
The drive was long, so Tony started asking me questions about who I am. I told him about my mom and stepdad who left me behind, my brother who refused to wake up, and my dead dog named Sasha; I’m going to miss her.
I probably should mention to Tony the fact that I don’t have my medicine and if I don’t take it tonight, the voices will come back. It’s not that bad though, sometimes they’re nice and they help me; other times they can be real jerks. One of the voices even told me how to kill myself; they’re so mean!
The truck slowed to a stop in front of a department store.
“This is it,” commented Devin as he turned off the engine. We got off the truck and I was rushed inside. There were five other people that I then met: Thomas(the one with glasses and a clean-shaven face), Shauna(who has a zebra stripe sleeve tattoo going up her left arm), Riley(who I can’t tell if it’s a he or a she), Ben(who looks a few years younger than me), and Malynda(who’s probably in high school and has the prettiest red hair).
Tony then took the time to show me around. He showed me where they sleep, where they keep their supplies, where the bathrooms are, and other stuff. I was surprised to see the state the store was in; shelves broken off the walls, the floors were covered in wasted food as well as trash and random broken stuff. The place was ransacked and really sad to look at.
I tried again to tell Tony about my medicine, but he was called away to help with dinner before I could finish. Although after he left, I got to talk to Shauna! She was nice but seemed really on edge and almost seemed depressed. I asked why, but she avoided the question. I pushed on and she yelled that she’s tough, then got up and ran out of the room, leaving me to my lonesome, sitting on a cot in the corner of the sleeping quarters.
It’s dark outside now; no one has a watch and all the clocks stopped so no one knows the time. Tony told me earlier that since there is no more electricity, they can’t charge their phones; another time source gone.
At least I have you, Notebook. You’re kinda like a friend; except you can’t answer back. Oh well.
The others are coming to the cots, I guess it’s time for bed. Don’t run off anywhere while I’m dreaming, Notebook; like there’s any place you can go.
Goodnight!
Entry 2- Eight Days since the World Died
I’m sorry I haven’t talked to you in a few days Notebook! Things have been pretty busy lately. Yesterday, the Power Rangers went out on a supply run as they called it and they wanted me to stay here with Ben and Shauna watched us. She didn’t like the idea, she wanted to go with them, but I heard Devin tell her that because of her mental state, she shouldn’t. She cursed at Devin and stated something about the name Spencer.
“Shauna, I know how much your brother meant to you-” I heard Devin try to say.
Shauna cut him off and said that she’s gotten over it, but by the sob I could hear her holding back, I could tell that was a lie.
She fell asleep and Ben got sucked into some picture book, so I was left to my own devices. I decided to go outside!
And guess what Notebook? I made a friend outside! His name is Randall and he told me he’s about 23 years old. We’ve got lots in common! We both like art and singing and being outside. I wish I could introduce him to Shauna but… she wouldn’t like him. He’s a Fleshie, none of the Power Rangers would like him, but he’s nice! He told me that none of the others can hear him; he’s been trying to ask for help but everyone like me runs away!
He told me to stay a few feet away from him at all costs; he’ll try and grab me otherwise, try to hurt me, but he doesn’t want to, he just can’t control it! So I spent the whole time walking backward around a tree with Randall following me as we just talked!
I’m so glad I have a new friend Notebook! I haven’t told Shauna or Ben or anyone about him though. I don’t think they’re ready to hear what he has to say.
Entry 3- Ten Days since the World Died
I’ve met so many new friends Notebook! I have tons of them! There’s Rosy and Daniel and Sara and Isaiah! What sucks though is the fact that I can’t let any of the Power Rangers meet them because they’ll kill them. They are not just Fleshies, they were once normal people like us and they can talk! They tell me stories of how they were before all this happened. They had families, friends, normal lives!
Tony talks to us every day about plans for supply runs and taking out as many Fleshies as they can. I’ve tried to talk to him again, but he’s too busy, setting up the supplies and hearing what other people have to say. I’m not important, I guess.
They look at them as obstacles, enemies… They can’t hear them, can they?
Entry 4- Thirteen Days since the World Died
I need to talk to Tony. He’s getting everyone killing Fleshies! Thomas keeps trying to get me to hold a gun, attack one! anything that will hurt them! No! I can’t do that!
They think I’m crazy! Thomas forced the gun into my grip and I screamed!
Everyone crowded around to see what happened. I started screaming at everyone! I screamed that I could hear them, that they have feelings and don’t mean to hurt us!
They think I’m crazy. I can hear them, how can they not? Fleshies cry out in pain when they are hit and I can hear every single one! It pierces my eardrums; it hurts so much~ It gets louder and louder and louder!
I want to talk to Tony, Notebook; no, I need to! I need to explain to him everything; I hope he doesn’t think I’m crazy! What if he does?!
I’m sorry, Notebook, it’s just… I don’t understand. I can hear them, how can’t they? Why don’t they believe me?
Notebook… You believe me, right?
Entry 5- Fifteen Days since the World Died
I can’t stay here anymore, Notebook. I hear the group talking about me in secret. They talk about how crazy I am and are trying to figure out what they should do with me. Justin mentioned leaving me for dead, and Riley just said to shoot me or slit my throat in my sleep! They want me dead because I’m a danger to them!
I don’t understand. All I want is for them to see! I can hear them; I can hear their pleas for help! I can hear them scream!
Am I crazy, Notebook? Do you think I’m crazy too?
I can’t stay any longer, Notebook, I’m sorry. It’s the middle of the night and I haven’t been able to sleep because I’m terrified that one of them will try and kill me while my eyes are closed! Friends wouldn’t do that! Friends would accept you! That’s what the Fleshies do! They accept me!
I’m going to leave you behind; maybe they’ll find you and you can tell them everything that I’ve told you!
Maybe then they’ll understand.
Oh, who am I kidding? They’ll think it’s the ramblings of a mad girl.
I’m sorry I have to leave you, Notebook. It’s just at this point, you’re probably just like them.
You don’t believe me, do you?

You awoke to a loud knock on your door. Your eyes were still shut when you head the door open and close again with a click and the sound of Negan yelling, “Rise and shine, Princess! Today’s the day!” you heard him stride across the room and before you could say anything to stop him he had torn open the curtains  so the cold, morning light illuminated your room.
“Ugh.” You groaned and you slowly peeled your eyes open. “Why?” You said in a groggy voice as you sat up slowly and rubbed your eyes, much like a toddler would.
“Don’t you remember darlin’? You asked me to wake you up and this is the damn welcome I get?”  Negan asked incredulously as he stood at the foot of your bed.
“Yes.” You replied and as you said it you tossed one of your pillows at Negan, he sidestepped it easily which didn’t help. “What day even is today…” Your voice trailed off as you realized what today was.
Immediately you jumped out of bed, the quilt still wrapped around you tightly. How had you forgotten? You were seeing Daryl today! Negan had told you a while back that they had Daryl and at the time you had immediately demanded to see your uncle but Negan had refused and told you that at a later date you would be able to talk to the only person who passed as a father figure in your life.
“There you go.” Negan said as he smiled, watching the realisation dawn on your face.
You turned your back to Negan and had begun to strip off your simple pyjama bottoms. Negan had you had been together for a while now and you have no embarrassment when it came to your body, he had made sure of that. Soon you had pulled on your dirt ridden jeans and turned to Negan who was smiling his trademark smile.
“Well, that’s one way to get me awake.” He stated as he pointed down at his beige jeans, where there was a large bulge
“Oh hush.” You smiled as you crossed over to him and ghosted your mouth over his lips. “Later.” You smiled and as you removed yourself form his immediate space you saw that he was smiling, but not as wide.
“What is it?” You asked, a frown forming on your face.
“Morning breath.” He stated and you suddenly realised that you hadn’t brushed your teeth yet.
“Oh no.” You said, making sure to lengthen out the words so he continued to get a whiff of your stinky breath. “You don’t like that?” You continued in the heavy, low voice.
“Go, go brush your damn teeth.” He said, half pushing you toward the bathroom and as soon you were at a safe distance away he pushed the door shut, leaving you laughing in his wake.
***
You and Negan were walking in toe down a long corridor with iron doors leading off into small rooms every few meters. Negan was whistling jovially as he sauntered down the hall with the air a king may adopt when strutting through their castle. You were about to ask when you would arrive at where they were keeping your uncle when Negan swiftly pushed you up against an iron door. “What-” You began but Negan swiftly stopped you talking as he traced one finger over your lips.
“Tell me what you want to do to me later.” Negan said hotly in your ear as he nibbled at your earlobe which made you emit a small whimper.
“Negan, what are you-” You began again but Negan cut you off when he trailed hard kissed from your ear down your neck and to your throat where he sucked playfully, tasting you.
“Tell me.” He said in a husky voice against your throat.
“C’mon Negan, I want to see uncle-”
“Tell. Me.” He said as he ghosted his lips over your own while his hands were gently squeezing your breasts. You sighed even if you couldn’t help the heat that was between your legs.
“I want to fuck you until who whole Sanctuary knows your mine.” You whispered in Negan’s  ear as he let out a small groan. He was grinding his hips on your leg. “And?” Negan asked in a breathless voice.
“And I want you to know that you are mine.” You continued, you said the last word in an almost animalistic tone. “Who’s are you?” You asked.
“Yours.” He replied gruffly as he started to back away from you slightly.
“Damn right.” You replied, a smile graced your flushed face.
“You know I love you.” Negan said, mischief dancing in his eyes.
“I love you too.” You said as you smoothed back your hair. “Now where’s my uncle?” You said as your readjusted your shirt.
Negan swiftly placed two, large, hands on your shoulder and for a moment you thought you were going to start the whole progress again but then he gently moved out of the way and he fished out a key from his pocket. Then you saw him turn toward one of the large iron doors, the door he had you pinned up against moments ago.
You felt your stomach drop as Negan turned the key with a small click and the door swung open, revealing your uncle. Daryl.
“Uncle Daryl!” You said as you rushed inside toward the man who had been almost like your father for as long as you could remember. You through your arms around him and pulled him into a bone crushing hug. A hug he did not return. His hands hung limply at his side. “Uncle Daryl?” You said weakly as you pulled away from him.
“Get out.” Daryl said in a low, dangerous voice which sent a shiver of fear creeping into your bones.
“What?” You asked, confused.
“I said,” Daryl said in an equally low voice as he avoided your eye. “Get. Out.” He threw every syllable at you like it were a knife.
“I don’t understand-” you began, flustered. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go.
“Get! Out!” Daryl continued as he shoved you, hard, out of the door. He sent you sprawled to the ground with a dull thud. When you looked up again the door had closed with a loud slam.
“But… Daryl?” You whispered against the iron door.
You stayed like that all night. Negan had left you when you walked into that cell and didn’t come for you. You felt abandoned. You felt betrayed. And above all you felt hurt. You curled into a ball last night. You did not cry. You hadn’t cried for a long time. Your mother used to say that crying was useless and would get you nowhere.
When you were very young and you mother was still around she had told you something that had stuck with you for a long time.
“You’ve survived all your bad days so far, why let one more beat you?”
And so you would just survive this bad day. Whether it be a bad week, a bad month or a bad year. You had been through worse.

Chapter 25 - You’re Gonna Regret That Kat
Everything was aching on me by the time I slid into my seat at dinner. Lynn slid next to me and Tris on the opposite side of me.
“What. The. Actual. Fuck?” Lynn growled out as a very unwanted lurker slid into a seat at the same table but the far end.
I sighed and my shoulders slumped while Tris tensed and scowled down towards him. “Seriously? What is wrong with him today?” Tris added her disbelief as well.
“I am thinking pod people. It is the only logical explanation at this point.” I tiredly say as I poke at the pasta on my plate.
“What are you guys talking about?” Zeke asks from beside Uri.
I shake my head at my sister and Lynn, trying to limit what they say and let me handle it. Chase and Zach were already looking at me worriedly enough and if they thought something was wrong, my plans to slip away for the night might be spoiled. I was already kind of grateful that Chase had informed me Eric was going to be late getting back from the meeting. He had gotten held up with something.
So I shrug and paint on a smile. “Peter is being less odious than I would have thought possible. It is just kind of...throwing us all off.”
That wasn’t a fucking lie. He had hovered the entire time we were on the fence. Three times when I got close to the edge he either shoved me back or yelled at me that if I were going to throw myself off, could I at least wait until he was nowhere near. Chase had found it hilarious for some reason but it just creeped me the hell out.
What was even creepier was the fact that anytime his friends started up on taunting me, he would start ragging on them, stopping them. This didn’t seem to extend to Tris though and he let them say whatever about her. In all, it was confusing as shit and I didn’t have the energy at the moment to figure out what was going on in that mind of his.
Zeke grinned and I could tell he was thinking of something funny to say about Peter. “Maybe he had great incentive to have an attitude adjustment?”
Chase snorts loudly into his cup and even Zach laughs at this, then they both cast wicked grins down the table to Peter, who pales and jerks slightly. “That would be a fucking understatement.” Chase finally says with a laugh.
My eyebrow quirks as I stare at the two men but Zach only looks into his cup smiling while Chase smirks at me and shrugs.
“Hey Uri. Don’t you owe Mar a movie or something tonight?” Lynn says, breaking me from the stare down I had started with Chase, trying to glare an explanation from him.
Lynn initiating the start of our plan had my head turning to look at Uri who was frowning at first. Then he smiled and shrugged. “I don’t remember owing her one, but sounds good to me. What do you say Mar? Will you allow me to treat you to a movie?”
Mar smiles and blushes at him then nods. “Sounds good to me too. Do I get to pick the movie?”
His smile falters just a little and I can’t help but laugh along with his brother and Lynn. He groans before he nods and then the smile goes back to it’s full wattage when she snuggles into his side and bats her eyelashes at him. “Sure.” He finally gets out.
Maybe I need to arrange to talk to Mar at some point and pick up some damn pointers? Although I am sure I would look ridiculous trying what she just did.
“What are you guys going to do then?” Mar asks after we had been eating for a few minutes, probably feeling bad for us being left out.
Tris shrugs and blushes a little, letting me know something was up with her. “I think Christina wanted to hang out or something.”
Considering I was up to something too, I didn't press her or look to call her out. I was actually kind of relieved that I wouldn’t need to find a way to ditch her. I would have felt bad about that.
“Cool, well I think I will take Kat and show her around a few of our favorite places. She was also mentioning looking at knives.” Lynn said with a casual shrug.
They bought it, or at least my friends and sister did. Chase cast narrow eyes at me but didn’t say anything. Determining it was better to get out fast and before a certain person strolled in and then I lost the ability to think properly, I started to wolf down my food. That did cause the others to look at me.
“What? I was hungry.” I muttered as I finished. Lynn hadn’t been quite so obvious but she finished just seconds after me.
“We will see you guys later. Enjoy the movie and..” She pauses and wrinkles her nose, looking to Tris “well I mean...you can try and enjoy yourself.” Her tone suggested she was very doubtful that was even possible.
I bit my lip in amusement and stood along with her. Before we could get far, Chase called out to us.
“I am sure we will be seeing you later.” His tone was casual for the most part but I got what he was saying. I would need to hide well because at the very least, Eric was going to make it a point to find me.
I gave an offhanded wave without turning back as my answer. Lynn linked her arm with mine and was silently chuckling.
“Shut up with that.” I grumbled at her moodily.
“I didn’t say anything.”
I sigh tiredly and shake my head. “You don’t need to. I know what you are thinking.”
“Then you know that I am thinking we need to GTFO and in a hurry before the dogs are set loose after your tiny ass. I need to stop by and grab the supplies from the apartment too.” Lynn started to pull me along until we just ended up going at a run along the path to her family's apartment.
I was still hurting but not near as bad as I would have been had I not taken that last set of pills Chase handed me on the train ride home. There were more of them this time and while he assured me that there weren’t any strong pain meds, he also didn’t say what else was in them. All I knew was I ended up hurting less and breathing better. I would need to find a way to thank the three men….later.
Tonight I was set on getting drunk and having a much needed conversation.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
“Oh gods.” I groaned out, feeling queasy when my alarm went off on my watch. It felt way too soon to be time to get up and all I could think was; I was somehow in the seventh circle of hell and being made to pay for over indulging and general idiocy last night.
Most everything past having the start of some really embarrassing talk with Lynn became a blur. I remember us sneaking down to the clinic after drinking a hell of a lot and sharing stories, or Lynn sharing stories after a few beers to loosen her up. I remember Shauna being shocked after we got there and Lynn swinging me in front of her sister forcefully, then loudly demanding I be given “The Shot” and ASAP.
Apparently my overall talk with her had inspired her to think that I needed to go ahead and protect myself since I was getting so curious to explore things. Even though I remember being pretty damn adamant that I wasn’t sure that Eric was truly attracted to me. I still was in disbelief about that. She had insisted that he was but regardless I needed to be prepared. My mortification after that had, per her estimate, warranted another round of beers. That is where everything went very pear shaped and hazy.
I still hadn’t shut my watch alarm off and was rolling in my bed, clutching my stomach and moaning.
“You can shut that shit off now, Stiff.” A voice quietly drawled from the side of my bed, causing me to jerk and then clutch a hand over my mouth as my stomach roiled at the action. Peter lurched back as if I really had just thrown up on him and scowled down at me. “I swear to Gods if you throw up on me Stiff, I really will say fuck it and throw you in the Chasm.”
It was then I noticed the pounding in my head making it seem like fireworks of lights were going off with or without sound. So now I was writhing on the bed, one hand clutched to my mouth to keep myself from exploding there and the other clutched to my head to keep it attached.
“Oh gods...please Chasm...yes now...better than..”
“Oh shut it, Stiff.” Peter growled again and moved forward, shutting my alarm off by pressing the button on it for me. “I have a better plan.”
“What’s wrong with Kat? What are you doing to her?” Edward had come over to inspect the proceedings and now there were two people hovering over my bed to witness my misery.
“I did shit to her, the stiff can’t handle her liquor. You could be of some actual use and help me get her to the shower.” Peter snarled at him.
There was rustling around and then the world was spinning. “I’m gonna blow.” I got out just before I felt it all rumbling.
There was cursing but then, thankfully, the most beautiful sight stood before me. The damn toilet. I had never been so happy to see something in my life. I hugged it close as I felt like my insides were fighting to work their way out. I wasn’t sure that it would be possible for a person to survive with their guts hanging outside of them but I think my body was very determined to test that theory out.
I heard faint rumblings of talking and growled either commands or observations behind me. But honestly I couldn’t make them all out between the god awful sounds I was making as I wretched, what felt like my very soul, up.
I did hear things like water and aspirin being tossed around. I felt hands holding my hair back that were way too large to be my sisters hands. I couldn’t even feel embarrassed about anything that was going on at the moment because I was just too fucking miserable.
Finally, it all began to ebb and I collapsed against the toilet, my body shaking. “M’never drinkin again.” I mutter out in a hoarse voice against my arms, where I had laid my head down.
There was a baritone chuckling from behind and suddenly dread filled me. I turned my head slowly to catch sight of who was there and slumped in relief when I saw it was Zach’s face and not Chase or even worse...Eric. My relief was short lived because he quirked an eyebrow at me and shook his head with a chuckle.
“I wouldn’t be too relieved just yet, princess. Did you really think after your little show in the Pit we weren’t going to know what kind of state you were going to wake up in or that you wouldn’t have a talking to coming?” There wasn’t as much anger as amusement and real worry in his tone.
I must have turned all kinds of white because he sighed and held out a rag for me to clean myself up, shaking his head. Once I was cleaned up, with neither of us talking during this time, he held out water and aspirin for me. When I had taken them I finally dared to speak.
“Was it really bad?” I ask timidly and wincing just with that little bit of speaking.
“It wasn’t pretty but I guess not as bad as it could have been. I am sure your friends will tell you all about it when you see them.” Then he turns his head as he helps me up and mutters under his breath something to the effect of ‘if there is anything of you left after he gets a hold of you’.
I groaned from the movement and from the dread of having to face...just face everything, but Eric in particular.
He turns and hands me a pile of clothes then points to the shower. I glance in the direction of the dorm and notice that most everyone is passed out though I can tell that at least Peter and Edward are sitting up in bed from their faint outlines.
Without another word I trudge into the shower, get cleaned up as best as I can and then get dressed. All the while thinking that it is kind of pointless to clean up. I am about to become a sweaty and mostly bloody pile of little girl shortly anyways.
When I am dressed, Edward and Peter are no longer in their beds and Zach shrugs then mutters that Chase found something for them to do since they were up. He also leads me directly to the Dauntless-born training room. It looks like part of my punishment this morning will be no coffee.
I can tell something is really bothering Zach so I sigh, with my shoulders slumped and look over to him. “Did I do something really awful, Zach? You are worrying me.”
He glares at me, the first I have ever seen on him, and the fact that it is directed at me feels like a knife to my heart. Disappointment and anger radiates from him. “You drank after getting severely hurt, Kat. Not just hurt but head injuries. Do you know how fucking bad that could have been? I mean not only that but you haven’t drank like that before and you had no one there to watch out for either of you!”
He had stopped and threw his hands in the air in frustration. We weren’t far from the training room but we were luckily alone enough that no one was listening in.
“I..” I lick my lips and shake my head slowly “I didn’t know about the drinking and...well head injury thing. I didn’t mean to drink so much. Neither of us did really. But I just needed…” I stopped unable to put it into words and also embarrassed about things.
“You needed what Kat?” He asks confused but I can tell he isn’t done. “This was kind of the last thing I expected from you given how you feel about pain medications. So what was so damn bad that you drank yourself into oblivion?”
I was getting angry now. I was being treated like a child and while I knew that my actions weren’t the smartest I could have done in the world, I was still an adult here. Not to mention I was and had been a mess of confusion and unknown feelings from within the first few hours of stepping foot into Dauntless. Frustration, confusion and anger had just been mounting in me and now I exploded.
“My LIFE, gods dammit! I don’t know how to handle most of the shit that is starting to happen with me and I needed help...advice...something. I needed to not be in my head or emotions for one goddamn second so that I didn’t feel like a walking, talking, and breathing version of the Chasm!”
I finish all of this, having raised onto my tiptoes and poking his chest with a finger all while feeling the same mix of crap that had driven me to the rooftop with Lynn last night resurface.
I was panting when I finished and when I saw his widened eyes that then softened after everything I had blurted out registered, I slumped down back to my normal height and let my hand drop. I flushed red at what I had admitted because there was no way that he couldn’t figure out what exactly I was talking about.
He sighs and pulls me into a hug. “I’m sorry. I know this is all, well, new to you. While I am glad you have someone you can talk to about this shit Kat, know you do have me too.”
He had pulled back from the hug with his hands to my shoulders and looking me over, waiting for me to say something. I was trying not to let the tears out that were stinging my eyes and failing. I nodded as big fat drops of tears rolled out.
“I know Zach, it’s just that...I mean you know...about that kind of stuff…”
He even turns a little red and rubs the back of his head with a grin. “Yeah maybe stick to Lynn for that, unless you do feel comfortable enough. I might suck at advice in that area but I will try for you.”
More tears and silence as he hugs me one more time before he sighs and breaks away. His phone had started to buzz. He took it out and was looking at it while I was lost in thought and emotion.
A frown of thought and a question that had been bubbling in my mind came forward. “Zach?” I call out softly.
“Yeah princess?” He replied distractedly.
He used the nickname that had partially brought this question up now. “Why me Zach?”
His eyes snap up to mine, and with a frown he puts his phone back in his jacket pocket and tilts his head. He waits so long I don’t know that he is going to speak again. “Why you what Kat?”
I look at my hands and shuffle on my feet a little. “Why are you guys being so nice to me? Why care about some little stiff initiate at all? Why are you willing to make me one of you, to let me be part of something I don’t think he...no...any of you let people in easily to? Why me when there is nothing special about me at all?”
I still don’t look up until a feel a finger on my chin and see Zach eyes filled with not only pain but real affection. “I can’t speak for Eric...or Chase, princess. But to me you are special and I am pretty sure anyone that means shit would say the same thing. I think we all recognize something in you that reminds us of something. For me, you reminded me of my niece when I was still in Candor. She was only eleven when I transferred and was the only thing I regretted leaving. She was my little princess. Fiery and strong, loving and smart. I have never used that nickname for anyone else but I think she would have wanted me to be able to find someone like her that I felt I could use it with.”
“Would have?” I asked with a tremulous voice.
Zach’s face turned so fucking sad and haunted, a feeling of dread and despair filled me at this. “Kat...it wasn’t your fault, I need you to know this.”
“Oh gods….” I slapped a hand over my mouth as realization washed over me. “No.” I cried out, shaking my head violently from side to side, sobs wracking my body.
This time when I was pulled into arms, after I had started to fall to the ground, it wasn’t Chase. This time it was all steel and warmth that wrapped me up. “Kat….you need to calm down.”
I didn’t deserve the soft and caring tone he was using on me right now. I didn’t deserve the gentle way I was then lifted and taken the rest of the way to the training room. I didn’t deserve the pair of concerned eyes from both men as they crouched in front of me when it seemed like the tears would never end.
I didn’t deserve any good thing in my life for the pain I had caused. How many others like Zach’s niece had died because of me? How many lives were destroyed, lives cut so damn short, because of me?
I had deserved it all. He had been right. Every lash from his belt, every hissed insult or recrimination that I had deserved it all because it was all my fault...all of it was right.
Marcus Eaton might not be there to dole out my punishments anymore but the lessons would always stay...and I deserved every one of them.

GRAPS AND CLAPS CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION
Hello again everyone and welcome to the story of show 65 of the #100showyear which took me to The Longfield Suite for Futureshock Wrestlings 13th Anniversary Spectacular with a jam packed crowd taking their position for what on paper looked a great card.
But first of all as ever it was time to explore the pubs of Bury and Prestwich respectively. So after the disappointment of Lady Aurelia being touched off in The Nunthorpe at York and Frankie Dettori being a plonker by over celebrating thinking he had won but the realisation of a nose defeat by a horse it should have beat came to haunt Frankie.
Off to the Trackside who sell a mass of real ale for decent prices from £2.50 to £4 and you are always treated to a view of the East Lancs Railway whilst supping your ale. I opted for a £2.70 pint of porter from Kelham Island brewery which was very good on the taste scale.
Next pub was Wyldes for a cheap pint of Joseph Holts bitter and a conversation with the barman about the past weekends Summerslam. Needless to say this was a good day for Holt’s bitter as when you catch it on a bad day it can be lethal to your guts.
A quick pint (£2.55) in the new Spoons in Bury, be warned of the old Spoons which has many of the deadlegs of Bury scouring its stick carpet. The short journey via the Metrolink took me to Prestwich and a pint of coke in The Orange Tree which is your typical chain like pub but is very good as a meeting spot for the graps in Prestwich.
This was a free night at the wrestling for me as our Geoff won a facebook competition for a family ticket to the show, so cant really moan on that aspect, but i would have gladly paid the full price entrance fee as Futureshock do put on consistently good shows, so lets find out what went down on the 13th Anniversary!!
Sadly the start of the show with the usually RUN VT! hit technical issues with much buffering and interference to the video package opening the show, you could see Chris Brooker visibly cursing under his breath at this unfortunate thing.
First up was the Tag Team Title match with Wonderland (champs) facing the newly attired Sexy Gents - Sexy Kev and Jon. This went about 10 minutes with the Gents having quite a bit of offence here against their bad guy counterparts, but as with any match the tide can turn, with Wonderland using the help of Melody (The Former Mel Price) to get the upper hand till a returning Violet Vendetta evened up the sides to nulify the presence of Melody. A couple more minutes passed and with a prone Wonderland member flat on his back it was time for “Air Sexy” from Jon and Kev to land and the 1-2-3 and your new champs - THE SEXY GENTS!! Good match while it lasted and it will be good to see who the upcoming challengers will be, but can’t say i am looking forward to an upcoming Melody vs Violet Vendetta match up.
Womens title action next with a rematch between two rivals in Futureshock with Champion April Davids vs Former Champion Lana Austin. Very physical opening to the match with both women tearing lumps out of each other with King of the bad refs - Mike Fitzgerald unable to restore much order to the match. With this lack of order to proceedings both women fought to the stage before performing moves so hard that both missed the 10 count to get back in and caused a double countout much to the disgust of the Futureshock Faithful.
Futureshock Management then announced for September 17th in Manchester that it will be Davids vs Austin in a 2 out of 3 falls match in the Main Event to settle it once and for all - this should be brilliant 🖒
Next up was possibly my Match of the Night and i suppose a few other peoples as well between former friends and tag partners Rampage Brown and T-Bone. This went all around the Longfield Suite with a multitude of weapons inc. A Dinosaur, Golf Clubs, Crutches, Bins, Chairs and Cooking Sheets being used , just imagine two big burly lads smashing the shit out of each other - this was my graps and certainly in the top big lads wrestling matches of this year.
When order got restored, the crowd were still on their feet looking on at the destruction of humanity going on in the ring with T-Bone kicking out of a piledriver before Bone hit 2 Tombstones and a match winning headbutt for the win in a wild, dramatic and white hot atmosphere of a contest - so much that people thought it was time for a break after this. Watch this back on demand - you wont be sad.
Half time Main Event next with Adrenaline Champion Soner Durson facing challenger Facepants/Wet Dog James Drake in another fantastic match that thankfully Drakes mate - Zack Gibson didnt get involved as per a stipulation made before the match that if he did he would be stripped of his world title. Both guys here showed why they are two of the best on the North West scene with surprisingly a split crowd with people cheering current bad guy but on his way to be a good guy - James Drake.
Some of the highlights here included an inverted neckbreaker from Durson to Drake on the ring apron and also a top rope 450 splash from Drake to an ultra close 2 count. The contest came to an end when Drake went to the well once too often and got hit with the big splash from the top to send the Futureshock Faithful happy into the break. Dissension between Drake and Gibson was visible with Gibbo not being happy with Drake shaking Soners hand at the end of the match.
Back from the break it was the 4 on 4 Camp Egan vs Team Blake with the person taking the losing fall being banished from Futureshock forever. Quite a few quick eliminations here with Iestyn Rees, Meat and Veg and The Nordic Accountant being dispatched early to leave Jenson Blake and Danny Hope to fight off Chicken Damon Leigh and Chris Egan. As expected this came down to the 2 enemies Egan and Blake fighting for survival with the purple haired prince - Jenson Blake picking up the win to send Egan packing.
A sad day for Futureshock i feel as Chris Egan is great entertainment in his managerial capacity and offers more to the table than Jenson Blake who sadly i don’t rate in my opinion and i would guess most of the crowd in attendance wanted Egan to fell Blake to keep his job. My mate Shauna wasn’t too happy at this result as Egan is one of her favourites so their wasn’t much booing going on for the next match.
Next up was the 10 man invitational battle royal gauntlet for the no.1 contendership to Soner Dursons title with the match being based around Xander Cooper’s quest to reign again and for his sidekick Bobby maybe just maybe screwing him out of it. But sadly it was the former that went down as Xander outlasted the competition including chucking Bobby out and finally getting the CHEEKY ROLL UP win on Joey Hayes to win this in around 15 minutes. Opinion on this match, it was fun but not the best use of Flash Morgan Webster, Bubblegum or Chris Ridgeway and even though he won the voting to be an entramt people would like to see in the match - No BIG T 😢😢.
But before the Main Event it was time for the raffle and with 5 strips of tickets in my hands it was time to see whether it would be a signed poster, meet and greet or a replica NXT Championship. As the first 2 prizes were drawn it looked doubtful that i would get anything and be left with nothing NADA BUT WHATS THIS I HEAR BROOKER CALLING - NUMBER 336!!!! I only went and won the replica belt to a chorus of boooossss and raffle tickets being pelted at my giant bus head. I am now a Belt Wanker 😍😍🤗🤗🤗
Ashton Smith vs Zack Gibson was next for the Futureshock Title in a very good match but i found the crowd were a bit quieter than usual due to the late running (10pm) now but maybe it was just the red hotness of some of the stuff before it. Much shenanigans were involved as Fitzy was reffing so he went down like a sack of spuds as ever, so while he was down James Drake came down and what looked like he was helping Gibson after hitting Ashton, he turned babyface on Gibson to a great ovation and with a groggy Ashton up again he hit Gibson with the GTS for the win and your new champion - Ashton Smith.
Beer prices - £3.20 for MPA
Overall a good show with the 1st half edging it over the 2nd half with Soner/Drake and Rampage/T-Bone stealing the show. Only gripes were Jenson Blake winning and the usual Fitzgerald shenanigans in the main event but still a great evening and i recommend getting a ticket for 17th September at 53two in Manchester for Davids vs Austin 4 and Pete Dunne vs Soner Durson #grapsandclaps

You awoke to a loud knock on your door. Your eyes were still shut when you head the door open and close again with a click and the sound of Negan yelling, “Rise and shine, Princess! Today's the day!” you heard him stride across the room and before you could say anything to stop him he had torn open the curtains  so the cold, morning light illuminated your room.
“What day even is today. . .” Your voice trailed off as you realized what today was.

“But. . . Daryl?” You whispered against the iron door.
