There are…slightly less boundaries now with stuff like this because of the saturation of social media making “normal people” famous, but, back then, that was almost unheard of. You’d only see pictures of these bands in like, ALT Press or Kerrang. For them to get lumped into the same category as these A listers was absolutely bonkers.

So to see this picture of Pete…it kinda makes me laugh tbh, but it also makes me sad. Because that didn’t…FIT him. It looks ridiculous. It’s not an authentic picture of him- it’s him being placed into a mold. Him accepting “The Template” because that’s where he was expected to go. Which makes it…not at all surprising that he was only able to keep that up for so long before it fell apart.

I give FOB so much credit for realizing that, if they didn’t take a break, they would’ve ended VERY poorly and likely forever. Look how a lot of careers ended from that time. Because, at that point, you’ve lost a lot of your “real person-ness” and, if you’ve lost that, what authenticity can you bring to your work? And if you’re BUILT on authenticity (which FOB is), then what is there to put out that is meaningful and relevant to your art?

Part of FOB’s magic has always been their authenticity and that they really are just “some guys.” That is what has allowed them to be so innovative and grow as artists and as people because there is a constant striving to push themselves and still remain grounded in who they are at their core. Pre-h, they didn’t know how to do that yet, and it was hell.

Pictures like this honestly just remind me of how deep in the hole the pressures of fame at that time did to not only them as a band, but Pete himself. Like, look at this picture. Does he look…genuine? Happy? Does this look like the Pete Wentz you know and love? Of course it may on the surface, but if you really look at it…to me it looks more like a caricature. 1/2 onion (diced)

1 clove garlic (crushed)

2c chicken broth

1 can pumpkin puree

[hand wiggles] An Amount of half and half

butter, for sauteeing onions

salt, pepper, cinnamon, allspice, and fresh thyme, to taste

punkin bowl, pumpkin seeds, and heavy cream to serve (optional but strongly recommended)

I sauteed the onions and garlic in a little butter until the onions were soft (in the future I'd probably put the thyme in at this step too, but that was an improvisation on my part so I put it in a little later and it's perfectly good like this). Then I added the broth and the pumpkin. At this point I hit it with the immersion blender, and from there it was just adding spices and tasting until it tasted good, and letting it simmer until the onions cooked down the rest of the way (texture was a little... Un Smooth I guess, when I blended it the first time, lol). I didn't measure any of the seasonings but it was a decently generous amount of salt, a few good cranks of the pepper grinder, maybe about a half teaspoon of chopped fresh thyme? and not actually very much cinnamon or allspice, just a half-decent sprinkle of each-- I wasn't going for a sweet flavor profile on this one so I didn't want the Pumpkin Spices to hit too heavy, but they add some depth :) When it was finished simmering I turned off the stove and stirred in half and half until it was the consistency I wanted. HONESTLY I don't know how necessary the little swirl of whipping cream is besides looking pretty, but I do definitely highly recommend the pumpkin seeds, or like, fried onions or croutons or something like that-- the crunch is really nice imo!

The recipe I was following was double this and called for a pie pumpkin or two cans of puree: if you wanna use fresh pumpkin, it said to boil chopped pumpkin chunks with the onions and garlic until soft, and then blend and season

AZ cast announcement anon. Uhm I wouldn't call that an *official* announcement, no more official than the ones that have been for Justin Kirk or Joseph Potter. One may assume that it was because the Immortal Universe twt account didn't exist yet but then again they did introduce Sam Reid in the AMC+ account back in August 2021. It could have been because Rashid was supposed to be a minor character but following that rule they shouldn't have made a cast announcement for Real Rashid either and yet...

I'm thinking about the William Fitchner=Marius speculation. As much as this could be a Rashid 2.0 situation the show has never realy made a *fake* cast announcement, at least untill this date, that's why they avoided introducing fake Rashid. But if they have no problem introducing straighforward characters, why haven't they introduced Nicolas yet, or Raglan James...?👀

Yes, the announcements (or lack thereof) are a bit of a mystery.

I am not sure as to the why or how, tbh. Nicolas is already in flashbacks, Rolin has talked about how he put him through the proverbial wringer. Raglan James has come with a huge red flag for me (Daniel's weird comment re "that a real name?"... like????), but other than that... it's all a bit weird.

Supposedly IWTV s3 starts filming at the end of this month, so they are likely deep in pre-production - and the casting has likely been finalized already.

I don't know if the lack of official announcements is negligence or... hint.

But it definitely is interesting, and probably one more piece of the puzzle we can only put into place afterwards.

Sharing some of my thoughts on Cinderella's Castle because I have no one to talk with irl about it (I'm sure most of my points have already been brought up by other people but whatever!) Dark fantasy is my bread and butter so I'm a little disappointed that I had such mixed feelings after my first watch through.

BE WARNED THERE ARE SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT!!

First thing's first, the set, lighting, PUPPETS, and COSTUMES were gorgeous!! The team knocked it out of the park with the look of the show!

Also the twists on the classic Cinderella story were *chef's kiss* The explanations for why no one could remember Ella's face, how the glass slippers worked, and the Stepmother CHOPPING OFF ELLA'S FEET!?! AND SEWING THEM ONTO PUTRICE'S SKIN SUIT SO SHE COULD WEAR THE SLIPPERS!?!?! Strokes of genius. I applaud the Langs

I wanted to see way more of Sir Hop-A-Lot and Crumb! I think they definitely would have benefitted from having a song with Ella, it would have helped solidify their bond and helped flesh out their characters (tbh Ragweed felt like he had more character than either of them 😭)

The songs were VERY hit or miss for me and I felt like a few of them didn't really match the tone of the show. Ash to Ash was a standout number (Kim absolutely killed it!!)

Bryce was amazing as expected and I'm so so happy she was the lead! Her voice is to die for and she brought so much emotion to the role of Ella

I was surprised the Prince and Tadius didn't get a comedic song. It would have worked so well for the scene where Tadius was announcing the ball! He could have been describing ideal characteristics of a queen to the Prince while the Prince goes off on horny ramblings, Tadius gets more frustrated as the song goes on until he finally throws up his hands in defeat, etc.

That being said, I was not a fan of the majority of the raunchy humor. Almost every line that came from the Prince was so unnecessarily gross. I know that was the whole point and I love James as an actor but the character just was not for me. Maybe I'm getting too old for constant streams of dick and poop jokes. I kinda wished they had stuck with a more serious tone overall

This is definitely a nitpick: the fairy godmother scene was SO GOOD (probably my favorite tbh) but I was SO distracted by the pants (AND THE SHOES STICKING OUT!!!) The costume would have looked more ethereal with a floor length skirt imo (or at least cover up her feet!)

I loved Jeff as the narrator. His interactions with Ragweed were very fun!

I had some issues with the pacing and the ending felt very rushed. Ella's final confrontation with her Stepmother should have been an epic battle but instead we got an exposition dump, a flash of light, and it was over :/ Kind of disappointing for the big climax of the show tbh

This is a criticism I've had with several Starkid musicals (aka Hatchetfield trilogy) where we have a character's friend(s) die horrifically and get very little emotional reaction from said character. So THANK YOU Langs for letting Ella properly mourn Lucy and Justine at the end!!!

I do have a lot more thoughts but they feel like nitpicks and complaints about minor plot holes and such, so I don't know if they're really worth sharing at this time. Anyway, overall I thought Cinderella's Castle was okay. The good parts were REALLY REALLY GOOD but unfortunately there were a lot a bits I personally did not enjoy as much as I'd hoped. I'll try to give it at least a second watch before my digital ticket expires to see if any of my opinions change. If not, I'll wait until the pro-shot comes out next year.

i wanna say it was in episode 3 after the boxing match when i was struck with the intense need to savor every second of mentopolis.

the mental image of a conrad driving with so much reckless abandon that the car is like half off the ground as it speeds away, hunch and dan bumping around in the backseat on either side of ivana who in comparison looks bolted down to the seats, money flying out and trailing behind them as justin hangs his head out the window...

all i could think was "oh this is the best." like the best. and while i do agree that 6 episodes is a perfect length for the season, what with them running at the speed of thought and all, i could also fully see them working with a 15-20 ep season just as smoothly.

and i don't just mean that as "this season would have been better with more eps" cuz tbh i don't think it would have been better, so much as it just would have been different. they could never make anything more and i'd still be satisfied. what i'm saying is that i think it'd make a great length as a second season.

which would be a great opportunity for brennan to flesh out the world elias lives in, while also allowing for more in-depth character development from the pcs.

this first season could act as a prologue to the world of mentopolis. and then the second season immediately kicks off with elias dealing with the aftermath in some way. maybe witness protection wasn't enough and now he's on the run from gobstopper industries. or maybe it was but now he has to learn how to adjust to living as a person with needs again after being alone and overworked for so long.

and as he navigates this new relationship, the attention from the press, the looming question of what now what next— we get to see how our prefrontal pis are doing as their lives were also flipped upside-down by this change in elias' life. cuz regardless of how positive and welcome a change may be, there is still a rather difficult adjustment period as you attempt to decipher where your place is in this new-normal.
