Buzzfeed Unsolve True Crime, specifically the Bobby Dumbar episode got me into true crime. I saw the Bobby Dunbar episode on Facebook and immediately was hooked on the Buzzfeed Unsolved series. When the boys left buzzfeed and started Watcher I watched everything they put out, even things I didn't enjoy, because I wanted to support them. And when they announced the streaming service and the plan to remove videos from YouTube I was pissed.
And I'm going to be honest, almost a year later, I'm still pissed about it. The content on watcher (minus one or two shows) have lost the buzzfeed vibes (literally two dudes shooting the shit while discussing crime or investigating ghosts). I've watched a couple of episodes since watchergate but I cannot bring myself to engage with their media in a meaningful way anymore.
Its hard to enjoy it knowing that they basically spit in the face of their fanbase. A fanbase that is overwhelmingly young adults and teenagers who cannot afford to live right now. Yes they deserve creative freedom but episodes are costing over 100 grand to make, the office being rented costs too much money, and they made bad financial decisions. It boils down to fans shouldn't be asked to bear the bill of their bad business decisions. Nothing says they have to have an office in LA. They can move elsewhere where things are more affordable. They could downsize staff to save money. They could rent a smaller space. There are so many things they can do to minimize costs.
On the one hand they realized how badly they fucked up and walked the decision back. Shows are still on YouTube and are being released on youtube. Patreons are being honored. But at the end of the day, the things that made me love the boys and their content have become dulled, if not completely lost, and they have become disconnected from the fanbase. And I hate it. I loved them. They got me started in an entirely new genre of podcasts but nothing comes close to hitting the same vibes as them. And I'm in a rut trying to find new true crime/paranormal shows that are similar and cannot find it. Andbim just angry that watcher was basically ruined for me because if bad business decisions and a lack of connection with a fanbase.

wrt the male loneliness epidemic bs i think it's important to discuss how strongly the current western state of affairs isolates everyone. not "just" men. the thing is that men believe they are entitled to their loneliness being amended by women. and when feminism began to show that women didn't have to suffer being in that position, instead of making certain to be someone people (women included) would want to be around, already-radicalized men hated those women, and non-radicalized men became prime targets of radicalization. that's what, in praxis, it means to be a feminist man (or an ally, or a deconstructed masculinity), though: it entails giving up that which you believe is owed to you by virtue of being a man. that's why deconstructed masculinities are as much of a goal as empowered feminities and trans identities.
so, to summarize. men are lonely because everyone is. capitalism, white supremacy, misogyny and other axis of the kyriarchy are set in motion to retain status quo by punishing community and solidarity. men are not especially touched by this phenomenon. but since there is a dissonance between what they were promised by patriarchy and what they effectively access in this case their entitlement flares up, ravenous for upholding the patriarchal edict of "men must be tended to by women, in detriment of women"
there is a general loneliness epidemic. it just so happens that it impugns pre conceived promises of the patriarchy. the answer should in every case be to build community and form bonds that enable us to struggle against isolation and individualism; never to demand that another person or a collective tends to our needs in their own detriment.

I see way too many fics where Caitlyn is cool. Arcane Caitlyn has a conspiracy board on her floor, no friends we see of her age despite being one of the richest people in Piltover, and sucks at making conversation. This is loser erasure and I will not stand for it. In this essay I will—

controversial take perhaps but one thing i will say is that i do think it's strange that gaius doesn't die by s5. i honestly think he should have and it would have been a good character/plot development moment. by s5 he's basically irrelevant anyway and merlin doesn't even listen to him really so why is he there!! he's kind of outgrown his role in the show. and i'm not saying this cuz im a gaius hater (i am NOT!) but because it feels thematically strange that he's just around... doing nothing. lowkey. also i hate to be that person but i just Think that it would make merlin's s5 insanity (lowkey.) even more understandable if morgana had just straight up killed gaius when she kidnapped him or if he died some other way in late s4/early s5. he's lost everyone who has ever known abt his magic (except his mother ig) he's sooo alone he has no support. he has to make all these decisions on his own he doesn't want to lose the only people he has left and its hash tag tragedy. like if ur gonna go in that direction... kill gaius. they should have done it. for the plot.

gwen throwing lena under the bus like that is rolling around in my brain because, basically, they've been playing chicken this whole time, right? gwen brings blackmail to the table, lena deliberately under prepares her for assignments in a series of sort of vague half-hearted assassination attempts, and gwen takes liberties and rejects every offer to quit or just go back to her original job. gwen's blackmail doesn't even seem to figure into it anymore, she didn't bring it up when lena demoted her or any of the times lena has threatened to fire her, it's a pure battle of wits and ego at this point and neither of them wants to be the first to flinch. and now in a surely unpredictable turn of events something has gone wildly wrong and they've been connected to some murders.
the ink5oul incident was a particular team effort, because lena was pretty clearly using such a dangerous mission to try and force gwen into check mate. she had to know it was a terrible idea, she said she's the one who usually does the recruiting assignments and ink5oul immediately took against gwen because they clocked that she was too new to the whole game to be taken seriously. but because gwen could tell that lena was using this as a gambit, she ultimately ignored her own misgivings and reacted quite rashly when ink5oul questioned her competence, knocking over the final domino in the inevitable spiral to consequences town.
gwen's problem has been that she's always ready to go low but lena's actually the one with power in this situation. lena can toss her at as many magical serial killers as she wants but all gwen has to fight back with is her measly lena being bad at murder cringe compilation and her passion for endangering the lives of herself and those around her. the second that she gets another mysterious email with more leverage she immediately looks for an in and uses it to betray lena to trevor, the one thing that lena has been treating like a real potential threat to her and the one thing that lena didn't actually seem willing to do to gwen. potentially be responsible for her death-by-bonzo? not ideal, but acceptable. rat her out to the bossman? no no no that's too scary. gwen's weird email gave her an edge, but lena could have cancelled it out by just saying "yes, I think I know who's responsible, take her away, minster," and she didn't.
lena has always been willing to use her position as an employer against gwen to coerce her into danger, but she's spent the last few weeks quite visibly on edge about the possibility of her own employer bringing harm to her in some way, and refusing to cross the line of siccing him on gwen was her first flinch, leaving gwen open to use her position of class (or, in trevor's words, "quality") against lena by immediately getting the minister on her side.

“I’m a lawyer” oh we’re getting lectured by a class traitor.
I'm not going to respond to the rest of the harassment this person is sending me (though thanks for demonstrating how the IA's deliberately inaccurate framing works to incentive harassment!), but this is too funny.
My good dude, I'm a public interest lawyer working in eviction defense. (I job for which I get paid so little that I just barely don't qualify for my organization's own services. The local librarians literally get paid more than me.) I don't know what you're doing with your life to advance the class interests of the disenfranchised, but my job is literally to force landlords to improve living conditions for their tenants and forgive large amounts of unpaid back rent.

Popstar reader, sounds like the type who would bake or cook super large portions (like some people online would do) and mail it to those in zaun affected by shimmer. Like say she commissions someone to create an invention to send it down in small parachutes
i think she'd do both like overt fundraising (i actually have this pretty in depth hc of her doing a charity concert with all the proceeds going to like orphanages and rehabilitation centers for those affected by shimmer) and also more low-key stuff like that.
just. making a huge amount of food, giving some of it to vi and her friends, obvi. but then just sending the rest down the elevator to the sump-level. always anonymously, but like a iykyk kind of thing, where there'd always be some kind of signature thing -- like a cherry or something in all her baked goods, or like a signature flavor so that ppl know it's her, but not her.

I sincerely believe the cops are lying about a lot of the details about the suspect they arrested, but whether or not it's really the right guy, I just wanna say to the Opportunistic Snitch:
A hex on you. A hex on everything that brings you joy. May your loved ones only find peace if they abandon you. May your days be haunted.

Big fan of member of the Party, Comrade Gendry
there’s something so real about gendry subverting robert baratheon’s legacy by getting really good with a hammer but instead of using it in war he uses it to benefit his local community as a blacksmith because he is sick of the high lords’ wars and politics and is assisting the brotherhood but only on the low because he just wants the world to be a better place. he’s not murdering children to win power like his father he’s giving up fighting with the brotherhood to go back to the inn and protect the orphans. hes a good kid and he knows to correctly aim his surliness and terrible attitude right towards the nobility
