Cuddles
Rex x Fem!Jedi!Reader
Summary: You are extremely affectionate with everyone but Rex and even though the Captain knows why it bothers him, he refuses to acknowledge his feelings
Warnings: Mentions of injuries, mentions of sex
-------
It wasn’t unusual for the Jedi to send additional healers on dangerous or very long missions. Nor was it unusual for said healers to be Jedi, not only could their force sensitivity help them locate, and to a certain degree heal, even the toughest injuries, they could also help out in battle when needed. And so no one was surprised when you were send along with the 501st on a mission to the outer rim.
-------
“Have you seen General Skywalker? I have a few questions regarding his plans for tomorrow”, Rex asked Ahsoka.
The Padawan looked up from her datapad to point down the corridor.
“I think he wanted a quiet place to work.”
The way Ahsoka said the word made Rex second guess whether the General was actually working or talking to his not-so-secret wife. And even though he didn’t want to interrupt him, he knew how important time with loved ones was the night before a big battle, he really needed his questions answered.
“Thanks.”
Ahsoka smiled at him before turning back to her datapad.
-------
Rex opened and closed a few doors in vain.
Finally he opened the last door of the long corridor and found the General sitting on a blanket he had laid on the floor. But he was not alone.
Rex was surprised that Anakin actually seemed to be working, he had a datapad in his hand and another laying next to him, but that wasn’t what caught the Captain's attention.
You were with the General. Your head was in Anakin’s lap and one of his hands was stroking your hair, which had gotten loose from your bun and was now covering part of your face. Your closed eyes and deep breaths told Rex that you were fast asleep. But instead of thinking how relaxed you looked when sleeping, when for once you didn’t have the weight of protecting the galaxy on your shoulders, he felt as if someone had just shot him right in the chest.
“Rex, is something the matter?”
The Captain tore his eyes away from you to look at Anakin. He tried his best to be professional, not to let a blush rise to his cheeks or his feelings show.
“I have a few questions about tomorrow.”
Anakin nodded. Although both men spoke in quiet voices and the General moved only slightly you began to stir and opened your eyes a moment later.
Being a trained Jedi it took you less than a second to remember where you were and who you were with. Slowly you sat up and looked from Rex to Anakin and back again.
“Hello, Captain”, you said with a soft smile.
And no matter how hard he tried, heat now crept up to his cheeks.
“I am sorry for waking you.”
You shook your head, still smiling.
“Nonsense, I shouldn’t have fallen asleep anyway.”
You looked at Anakin again, who had been watching your interaction with great interest.
“I’ll leave you two alone and get back to work then.”
The Jedi nodded, a smile now gracing his lips as well.
Never in his life had Rex felt as out of place as he did in that very moment. This was a private interaction and he had no business witnessing the smiles the two of you gave each other, nor the loving expression in your eyes. But he couldn’t tear his eyes away, not even when you pressed a gentle kiss to Anakin’s cheek before grabbing the second datapad from the floor.
Rex stepped out of the door to let you pass, careful to put a bit of space between your bodies. But even the few feet between you didn’t stop him from smelling your sweet perfume. Where Jedi could get perfume in the middle of a war was beyond him, but he had come to love every whiff of the scent he got. Though now, more than ever, he knew he shouldn’t. He knew you weren’t his and would never be.
“I’ll see you around, Rex”, you said. And for a moment, just for a short moment, Rex thought you might reach out to him. He braced himself for the touch, but it never came. Instead you smiled before closing the door behind you.
Usually he tried his best to be respectful to General Skywalker and any other Jedi, but he couldn’t help himself.
“Does she know about Senator Amidala?”
Anakin got up from his spot on the floor and looked at Rex with raised eyebrows.
“I’m not sure what you’re referring to.”
Try as he might, Rex couldn’t keep the anger out of his tone.
“Does (Y/N) - I mean General (Y/L/N), of course - does she know you are married to Senator Amidala?”
Anakin stepped closer to Rex. The Captain couldn’t quite read his expression.
“(Y/N)”, he said your name in a way that made it very clear he had noticed Rex’s slip earlier. “Does not know about Padmé.”
“Do you think it’s fair then, to lead her on like this?”
The Jedi looked at Rex for a moment before answering.
“I am not leading her on, I wouldn’t do that. (Y/N) is a friend, she knows it as well as I do.”
Relief flooded over Rex. He had to admit, it wasn’t like General Skywalker to lead someone on, and much less like him to cheat on his wife, but to see the two of you so close made him question everything he though he knew about your relationship.
“Rex, I hope you know that you can be honest with me about... well, you and (Y/N).”
The blond took a step back, then another, until his back hit the wall behind him.
“I don’t know what you’re implying. There is no me and (Y/N) - General (Y/L/N), I mean.”
Even though Rex tried to sound convincing a smirk played on Anakin’s lips.
“Of course, Captain. Of course.”
The next couple of days his conversation with Anakin kept replaying in Rex’s head. It kept him from sleeping, haunted his dreams and even distracted him on the battlefield. So much so that it he let a blaster strike his shoulder and was send to the med bay, where he ran right into you.
“Captain, I heard what happened”, you greeted him. “Let me have a look at that shoulder and we’ll get it as good as new again.”
You reached out a hand to his injured shoulder, but without thinking Rex stepped out of the way.
“I’m fine. There are others who need your help more than I do.”
You let your hand fall as your eyebrows knitted together in worry.
“You are my last patient for today, everyone else is already taken care of. Now let me help you, I can see you’re in pain.”
And no matter how much his head protested, his heart made him nod in agreement.
He followed you to one of the few beds that were not occupied and sat down as you gathered any supplies you might need.
“I must admit, it is not like you to get hit”, you said while you opened and closed drawers.
Rex just shrugged. It wasn’t as if he could tell you that he had been distracted because he was jealous of your relationship with Anakin or, worse, that he suspected the General knew about his feelings for you.
You finally finished and turned to Rex.
“You’ll need to take your armor off. And your shirt as well. Even I can’t heal you without actually seeing the wound.”
Once again Rex found himself trying not to blush. He hurried to do as you told him and just a few seconds later he was shirtless.
You moved closer, so close, that he could feel your body heat, even through your robes, and smell your perfume, though now there was also a hint of sweat beneath the sweet scent.
You laid a soft hand on his shoulder, careful not to touch the wound but Rex tensed nonetheless.
“Does it hurt?”, you asked softly.
He shook his head. It didn’t hurt, at least not on his shoulder. But he felt as if his heart was being ripped apart by being so close to you, but not close enough, never close enough.
“It looks worse than it is”, you mumbled more to yourself than Rex. He felt something cold, probably a bit of bacta spray, hitting the wound and a warm, tingly feeling a moment later. Your soft fingers danced over the now closed wound as you applied a bit of salve before placing a plaster on top.
“That should do the trick.”
You stepped back and for a moment Rex could have sworn you were looking up and down his unclad upper half, with a look in your eyes that didn’t speak of medical professionalism. But surely he had to be imagining that, you had spend most of the day patching up his brothers, clones that looked just like him, you had no reason to be checking him out.
“How are you, Rex?”
For the first time in what felt like an eternity he met your eyes. A look of concern was in them, along with a softness he didn’t even know he needed after the rough day he’d had.
“I’m fine.”
With a sigh you sat down next to him just as Rex put his shirt back on. You were careful to keep space between you, but once again Rex could swear he felt heat radiating off of you.
“We both know you’re lying.”
That, right there, was one of the things Rex loved most about you. Others pretended to care or said nice words solely to motivate him in his fight for the republic, but you cared. You seemed to love the 501st like family, more than a Jedi was probably supposed to. And not just Ahsoka and Anakin, the clones as well. You never made any of them feel like they were worth less, you made them feel loved and like they belonged.
“Can you tell because of the force?”, he tried to joke. You, however, remained serious.
“I can tell because I know you. And I know you’ve not been yourself lately. What’s going on?”
He looked down at your hand that has found its way to his thigh. The second his eyes landed on it you removed it and even though he knew it wasn’t possible, Rex thought he could see your cheeks darkening a bit.
“I’ve just been thinking about something General Skywalker recently said. About... me and a girl, a woman. He thinks there’s something going on between us, but that’s rubbish.”
Your eyes glazed over with something that almost looked like sadness, but it might as well have been confusion or just understanding. No matter what you were feeling, you gave Rex a small smile.
“Why would you say that?”
He thought about how he should answer your question honestly without giving away that he was talking about you.
“She’s not really supposed to be in a relationship, due to her... religion. And besides, she’s way too good for me. She’s kind and funny and caring and the most beautiful girl I’ve ever laid my eyes upon. And I’m just... well, I mean, why should she choose me even if she could?”
Rex tried his best to avoid your eyes and instead opted for looking at the floor. He knew that you would figure out who he was talking about the moment he looked at you.
You didn’t say anything for a while and Rex almost worried he had scared you away. Perhaps you did know he was talking about you, perhaps you were disappointed or mad or even disgusted.
“Oh Rex”, you finally said. He felt your light touch on the small of his back before your fingers disappeared again, leaving behind a cold that was not there before.
“Anyone would be lucky to have you, and I do mean anyone. You’re all those things you said she is. You’re one of the kindest men I know, you’re funny in your own way, you care so much about your brother, about Anakin and Ahsoka and about me, I hope.”
You stopped for a moment.
“And you’re beautiful as well. Sure, you may look like your brothers, but there is an inner beauty in you as well. You’re one of a kind and anyone who can’t see that doesn’t deserve you anyway.”
Rex couldn’t help himself, after your kind words he just had to look at you. Tears were shining in your eyes and a smile was on your lips.
It took Rex all the courage he had to lay his hand on top of yours, but the way you gripped it tight and stroked it with your thumb made up for the nerves.
“Thank you, (Y/N). That means a lot to me.”
The interaction in the med bay stayed with Rex for weeks on end. He though of it when he needed something to distract him from all the horrors he saw on a daily basis or when he needed to escape from his brothers or General Skywalker for a while. But mostly when he needed to remind himself why he was fighting this war, who he was trying to protect.
“Rex, are you with us?”, General Skywalker asked, pulling him out of his thoughts.
“Yes, Sir.”
Rex could hear Fives snickering behind him, but he could easily ignore it. Especially when you were standing just a few meters away in between Anakin and Ahsoka.
It was late and General Skywalker was just recapping the latest mission to General Kenobi over the holo. And while Rex did listen with one ear, most of his attention of on you.
Everyone was tired, but you seemed especially so, maybe because using the force to heal the clones, and Anakin as well because he couldn’t go a single battle without an unnecessary injury, took its toll on you. You had one arm around Ahsoka and your head rested on her shoulder as you nodded along with Anakin’s report. It seemed as if you were half asleep in your friend’s embrace, which reminded Rex of the time he had found you sleeping in the General’s lap. Your exhaustion was obvious and all Rex wanted to do that very moment was to wrap you up in a blanket and have you fall asleep in his arms, to make sure no harm could come to you in your most defenseless state.
“Thank you, Anakin. Now everyone get some sleep, especially you, (Y/N)”, Obi-Wan finally said before ending the holo.
Anakin repeated the words to the clones and added that they would have a rare day off tomorrow. He then turned towards the other two Jedi and said something to them in a low voice. You just nodded along, though Rex was sure you were too sleepy to really understand what the General was saying.
“Rex”, Echo said, clapping a hand on his shoulder. “Are you coming or are you gonna keep staring at General (Y/L/N)?”
The Captain turned to his brother, making sure no one had overheard what he’d just said.
“I am not staring. I’m just concerned, she should get some sleep.”
“And you wanna take her to bed?”, Fives chimed in, wiggling his eyebrows.
“Shut up”, Echo said before Rex could.
He couldn’t deny Fives’ words, but right now all he wanted was for you to get a good night’s sleep.
Rex moved his brothers along towards their quarters. But he couldn’t resist to look at you one last time before the door closed behind him.
You and Ahsoka were now in a full embrace and he saw her gently kissing the top of your head. Once again he felt the pang of jealousy at how close you were to anyone but him, how everyone else constantly seemed to be touching or hugging or kissing you and he was too nervous to make any kind of skin to skin contact last longer than half a second.
Anakin stayed true to his word, so the next day the 501st found themselves on some small tropical planet with lush forests, golden sand and a clear blue sea. Everyone was in a good mood, swimming in the cool water, laying in the sun or getting caught up in some shenanigans Rex didn’t bother investigating. Almost everyone that was, General Skywalker seemed miserable. He was sitting under a tall tree on the edge of the beach, careful to stay on the grass and not to touch the sand. Rex had heard rumors that Anakin hated sand more than any separatist, but part of him though that he was just sad there wasn’t enough time off to visit his wife.
“C’mon, Skyguy, you’re missing out on all the fun”, Ahsoka shouted at her master from the edge of the water. A smile made its way to Rex’s lips at how hard she was trying to get everyone to enjoy the day. The smile only grew when his eyes landed on you. You were right next to the Padawan in as little clothing as Rex had ever seen you in. Compared to what many other women wore to the beach it was still incredibly modest, though he supposed Jedi didn’t really own bikinis. Instead you wore a pair of shorts that cut up in the middle of your thigh and a top that showed just a little bit of your stomach and more of your cleavage than he had ever seen. Rex tried his hardest not to stare, he really did, but his eyes were just drawn to your figure.
“I don’t think there’s anything in the Jedi code that forbids sex, just relationships”, Fives said.
Rex hadn’t even noticed his brother sitting down next to him. But he did make an active choice not to reply.
“I think she’d say yes if you asked. Of course you’d have to get over your nerves first”, Fives continued.
This time Rex was about to answer when the sound of your laughter interrupted him. You were surrounded by four of his brothers, all of them stripped down to the trousers of their blacks, who were splashing you with water and tickling you. Another couple troopers were chasing after Ahsoka, probably trying to give her the same treatment, but Rex only had eyes for you.
He knew both Anakin and Ahsoka saw you as a friend, nothing more than a close friend, but he hated that he couldn’t say the same for his brothers. Of course he knew they weren’t trying to anger him, most of them had hopefully not even noticed his attachment to you, but he couldn’t help jealousy rising up in him.
He finally turned back to Fives.
“Did you give them the same speech?”
By now you were no longer playfighting with the clones, instead you had your arms around two of them and watched the others chasing Ahsoka.
“It’s not my fault you get jealous so easily. All I’m saying is that you should talk to her. The worst that could happen is that things stay the same, but maybe if you got laid you’d loosen up every once in a while. And I’m sure she’d be great. Don’t they say the once who seem innocent are the best in bed?”
Sometimes Rex didn’t need words, sometimes a single glare could make even Fives shut his mouth.
For the rest of the day Rex tried to keep his distance from you. With the sun shining in your eyes, a relaxed smile on your lips and more skin than usually showing he didn’t trust himself not to say something he might regret.
It wasn’t until the evening that he saw you again.
Rex walked into the sleeping quarters he shared with his brother, he wanted to get a fresh set of blacks to change into after his shower, but once again he opened a door only to find you curled up next to someone. This time it was Echo and Fives. Each of you was holding a datapad, you and Echo seemed to be reading while Fives was apparently watching some holovideo. You sat in between Echo’s legs, leaning against him with your back pressed to his chest and Fives head was laying in your lap.
After staring at you for a moment Rex decided to make his presence known.
“I hope I’m not interrupting”, he said and could have slapped himself a moment later. Of all the things he could have said, that’s what he had to settle on.
All of you looked up from your respective holopads and Fives even sat up from his place on your lap.
“Rex, I mean Captain, I mean Captain Rex”, you stuttered and this time not even Rex could deny that you were blushing. “You’re not interrupting, at all. In fact, you can join us if you’d like.”
If it weren’t for his brothers Rex would have agreed. He would have ignored how nervous your mere presence made him and how much he shouldn’t want to be near you, but instead he turned around and walked right of the door.
It wasn’t until he was halfway across the ship that he realized that he hadn’t even given you an answer.
Rex hated to admit it, but he missed you terribly. Ever since that day off he barely saw you and when he did you wouldn’t meet his eyes. Even that one time he was send to the med bay you didn’t go near him and Kix took care of his injuries instead. The worst part was that Rex knew it was his fault. No matter how often he told himself that it was for the better, that the two of you would never have worked out, he couldn’t stop the guilt. If he had just acted normal, not so cold, around you you might at least be friends.
It was especially bad when he walked into the med bay after another battle, expecting to at least see you from a distance. Instead he was met with Kix mumbling under his breath and med droids going about their business.
Most of the beds were empty but Rex stepped closer to the ones that were occupied to see which of his brothers were injured and how they were feeling. Just as he made his way to the last bed Kix stepped in front of him.
“Can you take care of her for a moment? General Skywalker is waiting for me to report on the injured and the droids should clean up while I’m gone.”
Rex tried to sneak a peek over his brothers shoulder.
“Is Ahsoka injured? What happened?”
Kix’s face softened as he put a gentle hand on Rex’s shoulder.
“It’s (Y/N)”, he told him.
Within a second Rex was at your bed. You were paler than he’d like, eyes closed in a fitful sleep, hair a mess on the pillow.
“What happened?”
Rex hated how broken his voice sounded, but he hated it even more that he hadn’t even known you were injured, let alone unconscious. How could he not have known? Had he been so focused on keeping his distance or was it because you were avoiding him?
“The General put her in battle last minute, to watch our backs. But no one was watching her’s, she got shot right in the stomach and barely pulled through.”
For a short moment Rex allowed himself to touch your shoulder. You were colder than usual, colder than you were supposed to be.
“I’ll be back soon, all you need to do is stay close in case she wakes up. I simply don’t want her to wake up alone.”
When Kix kissed your forehead none of Rex’s usual jealousy appeared. Maybe it was because Kix, who you spend most of your days with, was like a brother to you, or maybe he finally learned that he had no reason to be jealous.
For a while Rex just stood there and watched you. From time to time his gaze wandered over to the monitor next to your bed that was recording your heartbeat and blood pressure and other medical necessities.
The next time he turned his eyes back to you your own were slowly opening.
“What happened? Where am - Rex? Rex, what are you doing here?”
He didn’t know whether it was the sound of your voice, which told him you were alright more than any machine counting your heartbeat ever could, or the way you said his name, but tears appeared in the corners of his eyes.
“You’re okay. Oh stars, you’re okay.”
He leaned down to brush a strand of hair out of your face. You smiled at him, slowly the colour was returning to your cheeks and a moment later you used the little controller to sit up in your bed.
“I’m more than okay.”
And just like that Rex’s heart stopped for a beat.
“(Y/N), I owe you an apology. I know I’ve been distant and I just want you to know that it’s not your fault. It’s me, I just -”
“I know”, you interrupted him, the smile on your lips turning a bit sadder. “You feel forced by me and you’re right, I should try to keep my distance and that’s what I’ve been trying to do but -”
You stopped and looked around the room.
“Is everyone else asleep?”
Rex was confused, but he nodded. The injured clones had been put to sleep to really recover from their injuries.
“I’ve been trying to keep my distance, but it breaks me. I like cuddling with Anakin, I like when Ahsoka kisses my forehead, I like being hugged by your brothers, but a little brush of your fingers sets off fireworks in me. And I know you don’t like being touched, but touch is my love language. I want the people I love close to me, I want to be touching and hugging and kissing them.”
By now there was not only colour in your cheeks, you were blushing furiously. You lifted a hand to run it through your hair and tried to watch Rex only out of the corner of your eye.
“You don’t have to say anything, I just wanted you to know.”
But you had interpreted Rex’s silence wrong, he wasn’t offended, he was stunned.
“You - You love me?”
He didn’t think it was possible, but you blushed even deeper.
“You really don’t have to say anything, we can still be friends. The last thing I want is to push something on you you don’t want, whether it is a touch or a kiss or even a secret relationship, because I know those can be though. But you deserve to know how I feel about you.”
Before you could say anything else Rex was leaning down and pressing his lips to yours. At first you were too shocked to respond, but you soon melted into the kiss, into his hand on your cheek and the other on your hip. You moved your arms around his neck to pull him even closer.
When you finally let go to catch your breath Rex leaned his forehead against yours.
“I love being touched by you, I love you. But every single touch made me nervous and happy and confused, but every slight brush of fingers was all I thought about for days. And that time in the med bay, when I had injured my shoulder, was like a dream come true.”
You smiled up at Rex, a smile bigger than any he’d seen on you before.
“Can you say that again?”
He mirrored your smile.
“Which part?”
You pecked his lips in a loving kiss.
“You know which part.”
“I love you.”
He pressed a soft kiss to your lips.
“I love you.”
Another kiss.
“I love you too.”
And another kiss.
“I won”, Ahsoka announced with a smile.
Both Anakin and Fives shook their heads.
“No way, he kissed her first!”, the Jedi protested.
“But she did say I love you first”, Kix chimed in.
“Technically Rex said the words first”, Echo added, which earned him eye rolls from the others.
“How about we just make a new bet to see when they tell us they’re together”, Kix suggested.
“I bet you five credits (Y/N) is gonna tell me within a week”, Anakin said with a knowing smirk.
Ahsoksa shook her head. “No way, she’s gonna tell me first. Ten credits.”
Her master smiled.
“Deal!”

An Analysis of Ahsoka and Windu's Interaction in TCW Finale Season 7 Episode 11 - Why Windu's Comment is in the Right
It's been 28 days since the Clone Wars finale finished. It has been 31 days since Episode 11: Shattered aired. This was the infamous episode that had a good majority raging anger at Jedi Master/General and Council Member Mace Windu.
In the opening 5-6mins, we see the Jedi Council meeting via hologram, the scene we see taking place on Coruscant in Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. Moments after, Ahsoka walks in with Rex. Now, this opinion might put me in the crosshairs of some people who will think differently, but I have an inkling or belief some are misinterpreting this particular scene.
Let me make it clear first: I love Ahsoka. She is one of the greatest characters brought into the Star Wars mythos by George Lucas and brought to life by Dave Filoni and voiced wonderfully by the talented Ashley Eckstein. Do you want to know how much Ahsoka Tano means to me? I wouldn't have come back and embraced Star Wars again had I not discovered her character watching random Rebels clips on YouTube which led me back to the Clone Wars ~2yrs ago.
I greatly thank Ashley Eckstein for bringing me back to the fandom. Back to the main point, separating voice actor/actress from their character. In my point of view, I'm NOT directing it at EVERYONE, but some of those who love or big fans of Ahsoka so much there's no fault in her. Her character had faults in the beginning and she's still a flawed character. Ahsoka is flawed, but so well written, she is relatable and to a certain degree, perfect. That's not what I'm on about. It's about the lash and some giving Windu the slap because of how he addresses and speaks to Ahsoka post-capture and detainment of Maul.
We all know, but to refresh some, Ahsoka Tano left the Jedi Order, this effectively removing her status as a Jedi Padawan and Commander of the 501st Legion of the Grand Army of the Republic. She chose to walk away and strip herself of everything, military rank and privileges. She is essentially a standard citizen trying to survive and make ends meet of a cruel galaxy, in a dying Galactic Republic. We are well aware, the twilight of the Republic and the Jedi was near, inevitable and unavoidable. So let me reiterate Ahsoka's stance, because this is an important point. Tano is a CITIZEN. She's a CIVILIAN.
Push forward to the Siege of Mandalore, without a doubt, some time has passed and Ahsoka's walkabout took place before the Bad Batch arc, with Republic on shaky battle grounds against the Separatists on Annaxes, which it's sitting on a major hyperspace lane direct to Coruscant (way too close for comfort).
By the time Ahsoka fills in the Council about the status of Maul and Mandalore, here comes the scene that had a lot of people running up the walls of how Windu addresses and treats Ahsoka. Let's remind ourselves of some vital quotes and points. Ahsoka was not a Jedi, she gave that up. She could have chosen to enlist directly into the GAR instead as a commissioned officer or take back her position as Commander via the GAR. Positions and military rank were given to the Jedi by their own status in the Order. Knights and Masters given General, Padawans ranked Commanders (Obi-wan an exception since he had a Clone Marshal Commander).
The Siege of Mandalore was going to be a sticky one despite success because Mandalore is a neutral planet, though it had links to the Republic, but is very much neutral. I won't go into complexities, but visit the YouTube channel Generation Tech, they did a very good exploration into it. I'll avoid politics standpoints for now.
Back to the primary point. Ahsoka stated she only fought in the siege as her duty as a citizen, but as not a Jedi.
"I did my duty as a citizen." - Ahsoka Tano
She also says prior to that statement:
"I will escort Commander Rex when he delivers him to Coruscant." - Ahsoka Tano
Finished with:
"No, not yet." - Ahsoka Tano
This is the key point here. Ahsoka is a citizen. She aided as a citizen, fought as a citizen and she is taking time out to escort Commander Rex and the 332nd back to Coruscant. After that, she would have went her separate ways (but we all know disaster strikes). To make it clear: Ahsoka Tano is a citizen who freely involved herself in what would have been a campaign, part of the Outer Rim Sieges and in extension, Jedi business.
Now, the statement Windu make upon the 'wrapping up' of the meeting.
"I'm sorry, citizen, but these are matters for the Council to discuss." - Mace Windu
And this where lovers of TCW nearly flipped the table. The scenario was read and interpreted as rude and maybe even condescending on Ahsoka, despite her service in the siege. However, I think the scene is being read incorrectly.
Ahsoka openly stated before the High Jedi Council that she is a citizen, only fought as her duty as a citizen. How often in real life do you hear a citizen involving themself in a military campaign? It's almost unheard of, but this is Star Wars and it's fiction, but there is real life influences that make logical sense.
In this case, there is without a doubt somewhere in the regulation handbook of the GAR that under any circumstances are civilians NOT to be disclosed to military information. Military information and even to involved in the Council meeting, it's something not be shared with a civilian. Sharing what is classified information is a MAJOR breach in security. I'm not saying Ahsoka is a spy (though she does become a pretty badass one one in Rebels), but because of her status as a civilian, she cannot be disclosed such information. Heck, even if the boys wanted to see her again, Ahsoka cannot walk into the Clone Barracks anymore. She probably can, unless someone escorts her, people like Rex or a fellow General such as Anakin.
We already know Windu is getting stressed by the war, almost desperate to end the war and we all know the action he takes in the film. Windu does love the Republic, if I'm correct, it was quoted in Stover's ROTS novelisation, he thought he is doing best for the Republic.
Anyways, I think there are those being too harsh on Windu. Think about it again, I'd you were in Ahsoka's shoes, a citizen after fighting in a siege, essentially part of the Clone Wars, neither you would be privy to sensitive information. Windu is stoic as it is, it's not his attitude, it's his tone that came across as condescending. He was only repeating what Ahsoka stated to them, so his mindset was: "alright, you called yourself a citizen, then you shall be treated as such". Yes, his tone might not have helped much, but he is right. Ahsoka could be disclosed what is highly sensitive and classified information. If they did, just because she used to be part of the Order, it is A MAJOR BREACH in security protocol.
To repeat: Windu is correct to tell Tano that she cannot be disclosed what goes on in a Council Meeting or the situation of the war. It is all down due her status as a citizen. It would be a different story if after leaving the Jedi, she reinstated herself by enlisting with the GAR.
Just remember that despite misgivings, Windu is a highly valued member of the Jedi Order and a highly skilled one. He is also powerful in the Force. Before the war broke out in 22 BBY, he was trained as a Jedi Guardian, up to the events of TPM, he was already a Master of the Order and even one of the best swordsman of the time. He was first taught under Grand Master Yoda, then his years as Padawan up to the Jedi Knight Trials learning under Jedi Master T'ra Saa. At a very young agree too, he discovered his rare Force ability to see shatterpoints in the Force. This skill greatly aided Windu at how hissy would his future actions, along with the vulnerability of the opponents he faced. Because of his ability in shatterpoint, Windu even had glimpses into parts of the future of how he works build his lightsaber.
Windu also created one off the most difficult lightsaber forms that the Jedi Order forbade except to even and perhaps even his own student: Master Depa Billaba. Quinlan Vos is another notable practitioner. A counteract style to Form VII: Juyo. He created Vaapad, along with another Jedi Master named Sora Bulq. Quoting Windu on his description when he created the form:
"I created Vaapad to answer my weakness: it channels my own darkness into a weapon of the light." - Mace Windu
Windu had his own struggles with the Dark Side and he channelled that into a form. To use ones own inner darkness and channel it into a weapon of the light and not even fall in the process. It's an opposite of Juyo, the style being more of a 'state of mind' and not just another fighting style. To channel their own darkness and accept the fury of an opponent whereas Juyo as described by Kreia:
"Predictably, he seeks to unbalance you with his erratic attacks. His technique is called Juyo, the most chaotic of the lightsaber forms. This form sacrifices much to bolster offense, leaving one exposed to attack by the Force." - Kreia
This post had gone on long enough, all I'm saying is to maybe read the interaction between Ahsoka and Windu a little bit differently. Windu is correct not to disclose classified information, even council information especially with her status as a civilian. Perhaps don't be quick to judge Windu or even just think twice. Sorry for the long post, but I needed to get out of my head.

May The Fourth Be With You (And Also With You)
I don’t have anything ready to post for May the Fourth this year, boo!, but instead I’ll steal Dharma’s idea of posting a snippet of all my applicable WIPs, yay!
“Sugar and Spice” aka The Nika Fic aka genderbent AU crosses over with canon-verse a la Universe Collisions by Sroloc_Elbisivni
The Jedi took a couple more shuddering breaths. “Anyone else need a top-up?” she asked, voice steady but gaze fixed on the dank rock wall.
Rex exchanged looks with Kix, who straightened and surveyed his patients, clearly weighing who among them could use the help. The men themselves—Onyx, left hand useless from taking a swing at a clanker when his power-pack ran out; Honeycutt, nursing a couple cracked, possibly broken, ribs; Fives, unable to stand on his right leg—shared a non-verbal conversation of their own.
“Onyx can't shoot and Fives can't walk.” Honeycutt gave up the names with vicious pragmatism, ignoring both men as they silently threatened to space him once they were back on the Vigilance.
The Jedi looked between them with a small smile—at Fives who was stubbornly trying to get to his feet in protest, at Onyx who gripped his deece in his non-dominant hand like he was contemplating bludgeoning Honeycutt with it, and at Honeycutt himself with his arms crossed over his chest, one hand subtly nursing the injured ribs. “What about you, tough guy? Need a hand?”
“I can walk and I can fight,” Honeycutt said defiantly. He jerked a thumb at the other two. “That's more than these idiots can claim, and you're the one who asked.”
“True enough,” was her easy reply, but her eyes held a challenge. “How well can you breathe, though?”
He bared his teeth at her. “Well enough to argue with you… sir.”
Rex was prepared to step between them, to apologize for Honeycutt’s disrespectful attitude, but held back another beat. As half of him suspected she would, the Jedi threw her head back and cackled.
“Oh, I like you,” she announced with a grin, the color swiftly returning to her cheeks and her eyes sparkling. “You got a name, tough guy?”
“… Honeycutt,” he replied, looking from her to Rex and back. Rex couldn't do more than shrug, because he didn't know either. “Corporal Honeycutt.”
“Pleased to meet you, Honeycutt. I'm Nika.” She held out a hand to him, palm up, and watched his eye it distrustfully, shell-pink lips curved to one side. After a second, he took it and she hauled him to his feet. “Now, let’s see what we can do about those ribs, shall we?”
(Working title:) “Friends, Foes, and Telling the Difference” aka part three of “A Non-Comprehensive Guide To Force-Sensitivity”
The boy watched their interaction with the same lackadaisical interest the young Zabrak had demonstrated during their journey. “What does the Force feel like to you?” he finally said, blinking owlishly as Dooku refused to choke on his Tarine tea and delicately cleared his throat. “When Ben talks about it, it’s all very mystical-sounding. Cool winds and noiseless whispers, like a friendly ghost or a helpful spirit. Feelings and stuff. But when Maul talks about the Force, it’s more like instincts and heightened senses. It’s more physical than, I dunno, spiritual. So I wanted to know what it’s like for you.”
“That,” Dooku replied, placing his teacup on the table just so, “is a very personal question, young Skywalker.”
Anakin tilted his head innocently and said, “Oh, is it?” but his even his shields—well-made and well-maintained both from within and without—do poorly to contain the bright, bubbling amusement he was polite enough to hold back. Clearly, he knew very well what he was doing, and Dooku had to admire the tenacity of a such a young boy teasing a Jedi Master whilst genuinely seeking information.
He hummed pointedly and stared the unrepentant boy down, but considered the question in earnest. Knowledge for the sake of knowledge was a worthy pursuit. “Your brothers,” Dooku said the word carefully, weighing its meaning as he met the boy’s eyes, “were both correct. The Force can manifest in various ways, and it’s likely different for every being who experiences it. For many, whether they purposefully follow the ways of the Force or not, it acts in a more passive manner: a feeling of wrongness when danger is near, a keen sense of distrust when one is being deceived, or even just a quiet knowledge of where to go or what to say at a certain moment.”
Young Skywalker nodded thoughtfully, his eyes far away. “That’s very interesting, sir,” he said after a moment. “I think Ben will like you, if you ever meet. You both talk the same way, like you’ll get a prize at the end of the day for how many questions you can avoid answering. That, or he’ll hate your guts. It’s hard to say with Ben.”
Queen Amidala smothered a giggle.
“Well,” Dooku drawled, picking his tea back up, “Maul seems determined to dislike myself and my companion, so I think not.”
The boy shrugged and gulped down the rest of his milk with a grin. “Maybe, maybe not,” he cheerfully declared. “Those two disagree so much, I think it’s on purpose. Mom says they were like two tomcats until I was born, always arguing and hissing at each other, so Ben might decide he likes you just to be contrary.”
“An interesting way to raise a child,” Dooku noted, dry as the desert air outside. “If they disagree so often, you must have quite a bit of conflicting information on a great many topics.”
“Dab’ika Vaar’kara” aka the Camp Half-Blood AU an anon accidentally requested when they combined “summer camp” and “magical accidents” during a trope mash-up ask meme
“Now, as new arrivals, you're given a certain amount of leeway when it comes to the rules, regulations, and realities of living in the Godsworld.” Rex fixed the little ones—nearly fourteen and just barely scraping in under the wire in regards to the required claiming age—with a hard stare. “After orientation, you will be expected to either figure out what you don't know yourself or keep your trap shut. Understood, cadets?”
It was a blatant lie, of course; Cody could already see Kix’s bunk littered with sheets of flimsi covered in drawings, diagrams, and written explanations. Still, it was the spirit of the thing, yeah? A’sev had scared them witless when they’d first arrived at camp, and now that he was off doing Paladin shit, it fell to them to keep the tradition alive. It was a beautiful cycle, really, and watching the tiny shinies straighten up and shout “sir, yes, sir” like Rex was a fucking drill sergeant was hilarious.
“First off,” Rex continued, beginning to pace rather impressively in front of the duo. Cody had a hard time not joining the boys in their next snickerfit. “Congratulations on surviving your first monster encounter—besting an abaia while it’s got a home-field advantage is no easy feat. You did yourselves, and all your brothers, proud.”
The rookies straightened up that much more under the praise and Cody felt his need to smirk warring with the impulse to coo. “Whose idea was it to get it to charge into the rocks?” he asked curiously. They'd taken bets, watching from the shore.
“Mine, sir,” the one with the crew-cut said, taking a small step forward. A ripple spread through the cabin as they all noticed he'd subtly placed himself between his twin and Rex. That kind of body-language, combined with the late claiming, didn't bode well.
“Well done,” Rex acknowledged with a nod. “It was reckless, but well-executed. Just the kind of thinking we need in Mandalore Cabin. You got a name, shiny?”
“Ferdinand, sir,” the kid said without any hint of irony. They all winced in sympathy, because yeesh. “This is Emrys.”
Seeing that Rex didn't quite know how to phrase it, Cody asked, “You boys got nicknames?”
Their reaction was… worrying.
“Sir, no, sir,” Ferdinand—poor fucking kid—immediately denied, panic well-hidden to anyone not used to reading every variation of the face the Mand’alor’s poor decisions had stuck them all with. “We’re proud to carry these names and would never—”
“Anyone here calls me Emrys, I’ll break their fucking nose,” the long-haired twin cut in, stepping forward so that they stood shoulder to shoulder. “Got it?”
“Blood On The Ice” aka the Skyrim AU that I’ve world-built wayyyy more than I’ve actually written
The first glimpse of Coruscant—snow-dusted, crumbled stone reeking of despair—holds true as Ahsoka enters the city proper. Barrels of supplies do little to mask its deepening poverty when the cobblestones themselves shift beneath her feet.
A little Human girl, clad only in a threadbare red dress, entreats her to buy a wildflower and Ahsoka’s heart breaks at the girl’s gratitude when she agrees. She’d heard of Skyrim’s civil war back home, but had thought the children would be spared from adult pettiness. In Valenwood, the Green cares for younglings nearly as much as their parents; in the home and hold of the Storm-Hand, it seems, children shiver and starve. Not yet an hour in his hold, Ahsoka finds herself unimpressed with the rebellious Human king.
Unsure which path to take from her ingress, she chooses randomly and goes right.
Lined with homes and shops in various states of disrepair, Ahsoka regrets her choice until she spots an older gentleman lingering in a doorway. Her shoulders slump with relief to see one of her Twi’lek cousins, even bundled in the furs and leathers needed in the harsh Skyrim climate, rather than colorful Morrowind silks.
“Greetings, nerra,” she says warmly, stepping closer and holding out a hand.
The man appears nonplussed for a moment but replies with an affable, “Welcome, numa,” and clasps her forearm. “Are you new to Coruscant, gida?” he asks, nodding at her bow and daggers. “Most elves know better than to appear before the Stormhands so armed.”
untitled time-travel fic currently referred to in-house as “first battle of geonosis time-travel fic” aka this fic
And on it goes, a litany of ghosts and brothers lost to the stars. He matches numbers to names as they speak through the darkness: Fives and Echo, Jesse, Hardcase, and Kix, Onyx and Honeycutt, Razzy, Ringo, Tup—even Dogma, quietest and most hesitant of all. The barest bones of Torrent Company; eleven dead men walking, and Rex makes a full squad.
Numbers are and ever will be your greatest strength, your keenest advantage, he recalls the woman saying at one point, somewhere between his failed intruder alert and the imperious wave of her hand that sent him to his knees, heaving.
“Where the frip’s my bucket,” a voice gripes—Ringo, by the sound of it. The only reply he receives beyond repetitions of the same question, “Prob’ly right where you left it,” comes from Razzy, no question. It's both a relief and a punch to the gut to hear Ringo gripe, “Umbara, then, with the rest of me.”
“Oh, hey, mine too,” Hardcase pipes up, saying it like a joke, like it was funny. “Anyone else kick it on that sith-hole?”
“Yeah, Krell,” Five answers into the uncomfortable silence. It sounds like he’s smiling; the smile doesn’t sound very nice.
“Ori’haat?” Hardcase says, intrigued and vaguely impressed. “You do the honors?”
And finally, “chasing a dream” aka the summary and first couple sentences of the Treasure Planet AU that I absolutely forgot I was going to write at some point
Her name isn’t Hawkins. The cyborg isn’t silver. And the closest thing she has to a father isn’t a caninoid species. They’ve got the makings of greatness in them all the same.
-
Ahsoka is six years old when she meets her very best friend in the whole wide galaxy. He's a Guardian—only a little one, though, like she's only a little Jedi—and he's got the same warm brown skin and golden-brown eyes that his brothers do, but he's also got a bunch of bright yellow hair.

SW AU - Ahsoka stays in the Order - Ch. 6
<- Chapter 1
<- Chapter 5
Unable to relax, she went looking for Anakin. She heard voices near the bridge and tip-toed towards it. “I hear what you’re saying, Anakin, but you know as well as I do that we don’t have the people to spare right now. The fate of Christophsis is unfortunate, but until we end this war, there isn’t much more we can do for them.” She heard Obi wan’s voice through the door and sat down outside it.
“I don’t think they’ll survive that long, master. You didn’t see them. They’re starving. The droid army destroyed all of their food and water sources near the city. All but a handful of people have abandoned the capital completely. There has to be something the Jedi can do. Just between Ahsoka and I, we cleared one road. Surely, we can send some relief supplies? Maybe some equipment to help them clean it up? At the very least food and water? Medical supplies…?” Anakin asked earnestly.
“I will talk to the council, but I can’t make any promises. We’re spread so thin as it is. I know it’s hard to understand, but in times of war we have to make sacrifices to ensure the continued survival of the Republic.”
She heard Anakin pound his fist against something. “But these people are part of the Republic! Tell them to their faces why they’re not important enough to save. Their planet was ravaged by our war not theirs. We ended the droid occupation, but then what? We just left them to die! What was the point?”
“No Anakin, their planet was ravaged by the Separatist army. Do not forget who is to blame here. Now calm down before you hurt yourself. You and your padawan are to return to the temple immediately,” Obi wan scolded and she dropped her face in her hands. Great, now Anakin was getting in trouble for her own need to find herself. But how could Obi wan hear what he was saying and simply wave it aside as though it was inconsequential? How easily he’d cast the blame on the Separatists rather than accepting that they were just as much at fault. This was exactly what she was trying to explain to Anakin. The worst part was, Obi wan was completely sincere. He believed in what he was saying. This was the way he and the rest of the Jedi seemed to see the world. Aloof, distant, reserved, separated from the people. Because they never got invested in the lives of individuals, they could easily make calls like this. Who to save, who was more valuable to the Republic… For them, it was all about numbers. The greater good. So why were they leading the war? If they didn’t really care about the people they were saving, why were they in charge?
It turned her stomach to know how little the lives of these “sacrifices” mattered to the rest of the galaxy. Especially to the Jedi who had sworn to protect all life because it was sacred. No one would remember their names. No one would remember anything about them. They’d be left to die while others lived on. That was the price they paid for being innocents in the middle of the war. She knew Obi wan was right, they couldn’t be everywhere. They couldn’t save everyone. But to not even try? To not be moved at all by such a horrible situation? It was true, all they cared about now was the war. She had never been more sure than she was in that moment that they were losing their way and their hold on the light.
At least Anakin cared. At least he saw it even if he too was scared to walk away. This was the reason she’d always believed in him. He fought for the people like they mattered. He cared like no one she’d ever known. He might be the chosen one, but he was still just one person. The galaxy wasn’t his to fix, but he’d sure try to. But if she truly believed between the two of them, they could fix it… she wouldn’t hesitate to stay and try. Obi wan’s response to such a plea proved to her that it was hopeless. They’d never change their minds no matter what either of them said. They’d do far more good away from the order at this point, but it would be a hell of a lot harder. She really missed the days when she truly believed the Jedi were making a difference in the galaxy. When she was making a difference. Now she just felt helpless.
"Anakin, my boy." She heard the Chancellor's voice and lifted her head. At least he wasn't going to stop at the Jedi council. She really appreciated him so much more in that moment. That he would exhaust any avenue to help people, even if in reality, he was doing it to help himself. He truly believed he could undo what the council had done to her. He wanted to believe if they fixed this world, she'd stay with him. And she wanted to. Want was not the problem. Of course she wanted to stay with him. Nothing felt more right in her life than standing by his side.
But this was something he couldn't fix. She dreaded that moment out on the battlefield where the council would give them orders she couldn't follow. And then what? How many people would die if she disobeyed? What if she got him killed? Or Rex or Fives or any of the others? She couldn't be responsible for that. When she'd trusted the order, she'd follow it whether she completely agreed or not. This would be different. This would be so much worse.
"Your excellency. I'm sorry to bother you, but I need your help."
"What seems to be the trouble? I've been hearing strange reports about you running off on your own missions without the council's permission," the Chancellor said.
"Uh... yeah. About that..." Anakin trailed off. "Ahsoka's been struggling with her faith in the Jedi order. It seems her trial has shaken her pretty badly. Out of nowhere, she asked to go to Christophsis."
"What was she hoping to achieve by going there?"
"Well, she seems convinced that the Jedi are failing the people. We go from planet to planet and rather than freeing the people, we leave it so much worse off. After what I've seen here, I agree with her. I'm not sure what to think about all of it, to be honest. I've never seen eye to eye with the council as it is, but this is different. I'm worried about her. She's insisting that she wants to leave the order, but I think she'd be making a mistake. I was hoping maybe if you could convince the senate to send some relief aid here, maybe she'd stay with the Jedi, where she belongs."
She shook her head, this was exactly what she was afraid of. Yeah, leaving the order might be a mistake, but staying seemed like a far worse one. "Oh dear," the chancellor started. "Well you know I can't use my political influence to benefit only one person..." She rolled her eyes at the ignorance of that statement. So yeah it benefited Anakin or her, but it was also benefiting far more than one person. "I can take it up with the senate of course, but ultimately they're the ones that have to decide to spare the supplies or reassign our resources. I know you're quite fond of your padawan, Anakin, but if she's that unreliable right now, perhaps you should let her go."
"She's not unreliable, Chancellor, she's just lost and hurting. And honestly I can't blame her." Anakin said indignantly. "I can't lose her, your excellency. I'm her master! I'm supposed to protect her. If she leaves, how can I do that unless I leave with her?"
"You're not actually considering defecting, are you, my boy?" Chancellor Palpatine said worriedly. "You are the greatest hero we have in this war, if you leave, what chance would the Republic have?"
"No of course not," Anakin said quickly. "My duty is to the Republic and the Jedi order." She stood up, she couldn't stand it anymore. Any hope that Anakin would consider a different way of fighting this war was gone now. He was too tangled in everyone's webs. He'd never let down the chancellor or Obi wan or the rest of the council even if they didn't care about him nearly as much. Worse, she supposed was that she actually did care about his wellbeing, but she'd probably be the last one he'd listen to now. She could already feel his disappointment in her. How long before it turned into failure? How long before he'd start resenting her for leaving?
She was too wound up to sleep now, so she decided to go for a run instead. She exited the ship and tried to clear her head. Picking up speed as she followed the road out of the city that they'd cleared earlier in the day. She tried to lose herself in the force like she used to but it was still so clouded. After everything that happened, she wasn't even sure she could trust it anymore either. But now more than ever, if she was going to survive this, she needed the force. She didn't believe it was bad, she just wasn't sure anymore of how she'd been taught to interact with it.
She got lost in the blur of passing scenery, not paying as much attention as she probably should to where she was or where she was going. It felt as though the roads here went on forever. It was just flat as far as the eye could see. There were no mountains, nothing to break the monotony except for buildings and even the few she passed were sad and dilapidated. From a distance though, they just looked like giant crystals growing out of the ground. That was part of their appeal, she supposed. But then once she'd get closer, all sense of beauty faded as she saw nothing but hollow shells of life.
As soon as she got back to Coruscant, she was going to track Nyx down. He didn't have to know she'd been a Jedi, but she was coming to realize that she was probably going to need new friends soon. She knew that Anakin cared in his own way, though it often felt like a very selfish way. But he was becoming blind, like the rest of them. He was now so indoctrinated... exactly as they wanted him to be. He was just a weapon, a tool to sharpen and use for their own means. His own happiness, his own needs, mattered to no one. Except for maybe her.
But she couldn't save him anymore. Not if he refused to see that he even needed saving. Right now, right now she needed to save herself. She'd ask him to leave the order with her, even if she knew the answer she'd get. But the moment she was back on Coruscant... it was over. All of it. And probably their friendship too. Knowing that, made walking away even harder. But if he refused to hear what she felt like she was screaming at him, then maybe he wasn't really her friend after all.
She stopped running and dropped to her knees, shivering in the chilly night air. She rubbed her arms, exhaustion kicking in. She shouldn't have ran so far after eating so little. After all the turmoil she'd been feeling for the last few days, she was running low on fuel and patience and frankly, hope. She looked around wondering if she had the stamina to make it back to the ship. If not, she'd better find some shelter soon.
She kind of wished she'd told him where she was going. But she was going to have to get used to this. After tomorrow... he wouldn't be there to rescue her anymore. She saw a lone building up ahead and started in that direction. There was nothing else around for miles as far as she could tell. She'd never felt more isolated and more alone than she did right now. Why did it feel like this was all her future held now?
