ik it just came out and was only recently finished (like, finished Sept 2023 lol) so this is probably bias speaking but i am extremely taken by She Who Became the Sun and He Who Drowned the World, these books are fckn phenomenal. the gender-fuckery, the exploration of gender and sexual performances, the hidden message of embracing ourselves in all our ugliness and 'deficiency' and making a place for ourselves and ppl like us when others shun us. these books are just!!!

documentaries: immortal egypt (Joanne Fletcher)

i really really love documentaries and this mini series hold a special place in my heart bcs i love history and I've always been fascinated by egypt and Joanne's enthusiasm is just so joyous and infectious, i love it. i put this on repeat in the background when i was doing my graduation project in 2018 lol yea, just me listening to egyptian docu while working my ass off on AutoCAD lol

anime: sarusuberi/miss hokusai

idk how to explain but there's just a quality to this animated film that got me going... like, i adore howl's moving castle but miss hokusai is sth else. it's so peaceful but also deeply profound and visceral somehow.

tv series: aircrash investigation

i love planes, i love the Concorde in particular, but it has nth to do with how cool planes are but with how child-me saw riding planes as a thing that only ppl with money could do. it evolved from there.

i also love mysteries and aircrash investigation is both lol

i remember watching it on tv when i was an adolescent and i was fascinated with the mystery and problem-solving of it all ever since.

movie: the prince of egypt

it's a story about love; love that forgives, love that creates hate, love that divides.

drama: nirvana in fire (c-drama), beyond evil (k-drama), kluen cheewit (thai soap opera)

bl-specific: old fashion cupcake (anime AND manga)

the plot of these dramas is impeccable (tho kluen cheewit is extremely dramatic so pls beware lol), the character developments are fckn amazing, and what's even more important is the platonic relationships between the characters!!!

also, special shout-out to thai bl soap opera khun chai/to sir (with love) as well! the drama is off the charts, the characters are flawed & human & infinitely relatable & Tian & Yang's brotherhood is EVERYTHING

just one of the best bls out there and I've consumed A LOT of BLs/yaois... ALL SORT of em lol

the story is really grounded in reality, the plot is so mundane and relatable, the characters are mature but extremely flawed, and the art (in the case of manga) and the acting (in the case of the series) are amazing.

1. speaking of the podcast: so apparently Janine's reaction to Kurapika's specialist ability was "oh this is bullshit!" and i agree. however i am not as upset by the bullshit that it is as i thought i might be. him getting explicit OP rage powers made me less🙄 at him being the archetype that he is.

maybe bc it fits so well into the show's previous explanations of how nen works and how it applies to his circumstances (bc like. the guy who wrote the circumstances for him made the nen wheel lmao) also the death pact really works for me bc it is so very literal. like the pointing out and making explicit of him saying "i am a honor-bound rage-powered avenger and i will do a magic spell to supercharge my revenge powers by keeping a solemn vow limiting their use under penalty of death; the chains i use to tie my enemies into hell also bind my life" - i think that moves us away from unreflected cliche into sth deliberate

i got spoiled on Kurapika mastering all forms when i was looking up the nen user types, but i assumed he got there by like training bc he is the discipline guy. and for a minute i was like, aw he just got it by magic :c but like no, it's actually good that he got it by narrative symbolism magic. also i think bc Gon and Killua are the most special little boys in the world, i don't begrudge Kurapika being like an acknowledged in-universe rarity, and i like that he's older than them and a secondary protagonist at that as well.

final Kurapika thought, i don't like his character design unfortunately. the yellow hair grey eyes combo is unattractive and he has the textbook shitty anime haircut. basically everyone on the show looks a little goofy and characterful - in a way that makes Killua (and maybe some others) stand out as angelic btw, but sth abt Kurapika grates, i think bc it's just kinda ugly but very plain. no points of interest, except maybe his gay little earring that is rarely visible.

2. love the balancing and rebalancing of power. the mechanics and layers of what happened with Uvogin, how threatened Gon and Killua were by the troupe, Killua's skinned ankles

3. love the machinations, the interweaving, Killua figuring out who the chain bastard is, the assassins being hired by the mob

4. love the emotional machinations as well. Gon and Killua's puppy love (it's real and gay to me), and especially - as pointed out by Keith on the podcast, Killua doing mild bullying behaviors the way kids will with their friends that Gon is just not susceptible to. Killua's emotional struggles in general, the different types of jealousy (are you better than me? do you like someone else?), the controlling impulse, it's all very real and resonant lmao. Killua is the least interesting when he's freaking out abt being turned into a killer with no internal life by his family, and the best when trying to brush off Gon paying attention to another kid. i'm an adult, so im not negging my crush by drawing a power chart in the sand with a stick but like. i get it lmao.

love the glimpses into what's up with the troupe and their relationships in general. Real talk, I hate libra season. The friggin sign of love and relationships, making friggin love and romance the flavour of the month, it just makes me more painfully aware of how alone I am. Usually I'm ok with being alone. This season makes me yearn for a partner, but I never find one. But then thank goodness the season is over quickly and I go back to normal. Libra is in my 10th house in my natal chart, with juno and sappho in there as well, so I think I'm meant to have relationships that I form through my career? Or relationships would help me with my career? I don't know. Libra is also opposite my moon (not sure what that would mean, that libra balances me out or sth?) so christmas break is coming and i've been wanting to start *and binge on* a new bl (that is if I'm not still utterly controlled by bad buddy brainrot lol). anyways, what i had in mind was manner of death. i've tried watching it before when it first came out but the first ep made me cringe sksk. i think there was an accidental kiss or sth like that? i don't really remember but i want to give it another chance. my question here is, is it worth it? (Well obviously yes, i know you love it) but like can you give me a mini review (or an in-detail review, whatever you're comfortable with), sth to hype it up. i really trust your judgement when it comes to this stuff

heyyy!! you're absolutely correct - i do, in fact, love it, it's my second favorite show, i think it's perfect. i'm going to give you a general gist of my feelings along with my dear friend and loyal companion @sporadicauthor's feelings, as i did ask them to help me out here as well (thank u so much ora <3). i kept it as not spoilery as i could, so you could enjoy the series to its fullest:

so, one of the most refreshing things about manner of death is that it's a story about queer people, but not necessarily a story about being queer. and there is nothing wrong with those stories, of course, but it's really cool to see two gay men just doing their thing, you know? it's a murder mystery that happens to have two male leads that are queer and in love with each other. that's fucking incredible.

in general, the series is amazing from start to finish to me - it hasn't disappointed me once: the pacing is perfect, there is no unnecessary drama or plot points, and an absolutely incredible ending. but speaking of the murder mystery specifically - it is good and it is the central point of the series. it's going to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time, trying to guess what's going on, who's in the right, and who's in the wrong. as a cherry on top - it's a murder mystery that does quite a good job of criticizing the system, especially the police, which is so rare and so amazing to see.

another rare thing to see is that we are actually dealing with adults here!! not high schoolers, not uni students, not even someone who's just out of uni - these are grown men meeting each other and falling in love!! i think this is so important to see, also because a lot of us queer alloromantic people miss those "milestones" early in life and get to really experience that side of life later than cishet people.

all characters in the series are very well-written - i can't say anything specific because figuring out the truth about every single person is a big part of the fun, but you will have plenty of people to love and hate, support and admire.

the relationship at the center is also amazing - despite the fucked up circumstances and some unorthodox things happening, they are ultimately equals who respect and support each other. they are in an established relationship throughout pretty much the entire series as well, which is also quite rare.

with that established relationship, you will see a lot of intimacy too - i say this with confidence, no other mlm series has this much intimacy between its leads. and i don't know if someone has told you this before, but in case you don't know - max and tul are some of the best actors we have ever had, and they are also very close, so the chemistry is off the charts.

i also love how the relationship is portrayed as something constant - a lot of the time, especially when the main focus of the series isn't just the relationship, in moments that aren't directly related to said relationship, the characters are often not really portrayed like they are in love, even though in real life you would always think of your partner regardless of what the situation is - manner of death understands this, and you will never feel as if the main characters suddenly don't care for each other the same way they do during the romantic moments because they are occupied with something else. that's what i mean by it being constant.

as a final small point, the series is also shot beautifully, in my opinion, and there is quite a bit of symbolism, which is always lovely.

so hopefully all of this convinces you to watch it, but if you have any follow-up questions - i will gladly answer them!!

I’ve done a post on Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez but once again here are some points on why I love their synastry:

-Her Sun conjuncts his Moon. Her personality and self emotionally fulfills him. This aspect can form a deep connection and understanding between two people. She gets to see his softer side, he relates to her character and feels very comfortable around her.

-Sun-Mercury conjunction from both sides. How can you connect with someone if you don’t understand eachother well? Patience aside, I think this is one of the best aspects. Endless conversation, you get eachother’s ideas and thoughts, you feel comfortable confiding in one another. Great for both platonic and romantic relationships.

-Her Venus conjuncts his Moon. Her love and affection brings him emotional fulfillment. Very gentle love, very comforting love.

Other aspects they have: Her Mercury conjuncts his MC - he respects her opinion, probably could make good business partnership and partnership in general, Her Lilith opposite his MC - you can see how their scandal was so publicized, she had sth to do with it imo. They have a lot of trines and sextiles which is good. Some of the squares that caught my attention - Her Saturn squares his Mars - she may think he acts before he thinks, kind of unplanned, Her Mercury squares his Jupiter and ASC- her words may hurt his ego, which makes him want to impress her even more. Their youngest member is one of the most versatile artist in kpop, doesn't care about gender roles both in outfits and make up as in choreo, has the most original ideas and creates masterpiece after masterpiece everytime he releases sth new as a soloist, also the best dancer in kpop. Debuted for the first time when he was just 15 (!) and then debuted with other projects in every next generation.

Their "worst" dancer easily keeps up with the best and follows every choreo with no difficulties... basically, their "worst" dancer is best than 80% of kpop idols. Their lead vocal performed opera during their concerts as his solo song, iconic tbh, no other idol would ever be brave enough to do so.

Another one of them is considered the best looking idol (we stan visuals ok) but the more important thing is that behind that gorgeous face and body we find a man who is the most caring person ever, with the softest heart filled with honest, genuine love for all the people around him.

Another one is the most fashionable person in kpop (no one will convince me otherwise), doesn't care about the "proper idol etiquette", is not afraid to say what he thinks no matter what (which is so rare in kpop industry). He's still the same, original "self" as when he first debuted and I'm so proud of him that he never tried to change himself to fit into the "kpop idol" stereotype.

Another one was creating the best, most sensual songs, with very brave (for kpop) and very personal lyrics talking about intimacy, mental health struggles, relationships. Even when fighting depression on his own, he still managed to give words of wisdom and support to fans who were sad or suffering. Even though he was suffering himself, he still managed to smile and laugh and bring us joy and lots of positivity. A huuuuge supporter of lgbtq+ community, was not afraid to be vocal about it even after getting hate for his actions...

Every single one of them has had solo projects, either singing (all of them) or acting, talented af. They've been inspiration to so many new idols, like.. Ask any rookie, they're gonna tell it's shinee who got them into kpop. They've been on top for over 12 years already and they're not stopping. Even during their 2years long break, they'd still place somewhere in top 10 most popular bands every month. They gained their fame in times where there was no tiktok or ig or any other sm that's so popular these days (even YouTube was just like.. 2 or 3 years old when shinee debuted). They genuinely love each other and think of themselves as family. One of them members arrived at TV studio right after being released from military, still in his uniform, just to see another member perform his newest song. They are together again for the first time in two years and they're still the same. The jokes, the banter, the skin ship, the love between them.. It's like nothing has changed, like those long months of separation only made them stronger.

They continuously create their own style, have an image that stands out in a crowd of all the other bands that have ever been active in SK for the past decade. They've had no major scandals, ever. They continue to shine, inspire, create, bring joy to their fans no matter the circumstances. They went through the worst imaginable thing as a band and yet they didn't let harsh comments and insensitive people break them and still managed to comeback with one of the most iconic performances ever.

They don't have the biggest number of prizes, they're not the most popular band in history, they're not on top of all the charts and for gp they are not "the only band ever..." or "the first band to..." these days but jfc they are for me. And for so many other people who get so much joy and entertainment from SHINee. Those fans who have been with them for ages, those who've only joined them recently. Those who've seen all their performances from the beginning and those who only saw the last ones. SHINee are not just another kpop bband. And I know it sounds very stupid and childish for those who are not familiar with them but.. They truly changed my life for the better and I'm going to be forever grateful for that.

Yes and no. I think it provides explanation reassurance and self reflection but despite charts you can be successful rich famous loved etc. it more or less shows inclinations and enhancements not end all’s or be all’s. You can still have this person in your life and be loved despite a chart saying no. Just make sure it’s the right person and invest in healthy relationships with yourself and others. You can have beliefs outside the loa but tackle them nuance and learn to analyze them :) I hope this makes sense(?? If not I apologize). Also this is personal belief so you don’t have to believe in it. Just take the meat and spit out the bones
