If we find some other way for War Games to kick off (or just...not have that arc, idk), I think my ideal end for the Robin!Steph arc would be for her, not to fuck up and get fired, but decide, on her own, that she prefers being Spoiler.

What she wanted was training, respect, and (ugh, DC, why?) to get back at Tim for the misconception that he cheated on her. The first two don't require being Robin (Bruce gave her a smidge during the Brentwood arc) and the third can be resolved through communication, or if we really want some interesting character growth, Steph confronting her own vindictiveness, wrestling with whether she cares more about Getting Revenge or Helping People.

Actually, that could tie back into her intro and subsequent early appearances pretty well? She became Spoiler to get back at her dad, but later shows up solving crimes in the suburbs pointing out that the Bats tend to focus on the main island city. She also wants to impress her crush, but moves away from that impetus over time. So deciding, "I built Spoiler into something more than revenge, and I want to keep building Spoiler, not get mired back in revenge as Robin," would be some growth.

So yeah, wrap up with Robin!Steph arc by her showing up at the Batcave in her Spoiler suit, mirroring how she first showed up in her handmade Robin suit, and tell Bruce she wants to split time patrolling the suburbs like she used to, and patrolling the city with him for more training. That being Robin was an honor, but she's Spoiler, and she's proud to be Spoiler.

This could be a kick in the pants for Bruce; by reclaiming Spoiler and laying down new terms of partnership, letting go of her grudge against Tim, she's acting more mature than Bruce (who it's implied made her Robin in an attempt to lure Tim back). Maybe this sparks him to reassess how he's handling the Jack situation and Tim's absence, reaching out in their civilian lives or otherwise doing something direct to maintain that important relationship.

I think Along Came Daffy has one of my favorite endings ever. Can't describe it but Daffy's exuberant enthusiasm at being put in a stressful life of death situation is pretty damn infectious

that’s one of my favorite and often unsung facets of Daffy’s personality—in the ‘40s cartoons especially, he can be DECEPTIVELY adaptable. there are quite a few cartoons that end with him shrugging off being put in a very undesirable situation/having his plans thwarted/etc—i think that might even be why Beanstalk Bunny is one of my favorite later Jones Daffys, because the almost chipper resignation to being a [quasi]human wristwatch for all eternity is relatively rare for that time period

Draftee Daffy is another i think is comparable, maybe not for the exuberance but the severity of the circumstances in which he’s willing to resign himself? perhaps the only person in the world who EVER reacts to DYING IN A FIERY EXPLOSION AND BEING SENT TO HELL WITH: “oh well”. AND HIS FIRST INSTINCT IS TO STRIKE UP CASUAL CONVERSATION WITH A DEVILISH IMP!! as i went to get screenshots for this i just noticed for the first time ever that the “imp”’s arm gradually slides into view holding a pitchfork, as if to remind both Daffy and the audience like. you are in hell and talking to a little hellion and you are completely and charmingly oblivious to the severity of your circumstances

BUT YEAH OH MY GOODNESS Along Came Daffy is so good!! i’ve always really been smitten with Freleng’s interpretation of Daffy through the ‘40s and early ‘50s. that ending is great, and i always love me any instance that is reliant on the Daffy-audience continuum of interaction. Daffy’s a provocateur! the rush of adrenaline, whether it be getting a rise out of others or being subjected to numerous life and death situations, is so infectious to him and gratifying to his impulses that it’s almost more preferable to a comfortable but boring life/cartoon ending.

the end to The Stupor Salesman is so good at capturing this just. DRIPPING exuberance and zest for life and impulsitivity. he can’t even help himself!! so much so that he’s galloping and prancing in place!! some of my favorite Daffy deliveries are the lines where he speaks with such a mischief that is so ravenous that you can feel it. ..granted, it is more of a victory here than a concession, but i don’t think “YOU NEED A HOUSE TO GO WITH THIS DOORKNOB” is the first reaction of most when a house is destroyed in a gas explosion (2:31, i can’t timestamp sorry :(((()

the only qualm i have with the ending of Along Came Daffy is IT DRIVES ME NUTS BODY IS IN SILHOUETTE BUT NOT HIS FAAAAACEEEE!! lose the silhouette or at least put some rim-lighting on this man!!!!!!!

now that conversations around that movie and its cast drama have mostly calmed down can i just say.. i wish that there would have been a way for people to dunk on colleen hoover and it ends with us without making weirdly generalizing statements about abuse victims. there’s a lot that can be said about the movie concerning the cringey dialogue or the editing and coloring that are making the movie look like a music video from 2010 with wattpad font. there’s also a lot to be criticized about colleen hoover and her terrible writing and the writing choices she made in this book in particular and especially the godawful cash grab sequel she wrote for booktok.

but then there’s the storytelling in the movie and a lot of it is not bad or unrealistic. a lot of conversations happening around that movie seemed very set on trying to prove that x is something that #real abuse victims wouldn’t do and y isn’t how #real abuse victims would behave. and i’m sorry to break this to you but the movie isn’t sympathetic to abusers for portraying the struggle victims of abuse face in trying to leave their abusers as anything than black and white. a lot of women don’t immediately leave their abusers. statistically speaking the outcome in the movie is better than what happens to a lot of victims in real life since a lot of women go back to their abusers multiple times after already attempting to leave them. yes, lily let ryle into her apartment while considering to divorce him. yes, lily let ryle hold their newborn baby after already deciding to leave him. that is not unrealistic or something a survivor of domestic abuse would never do, it’s unfortunately something that would happen to a lot of victims irl who would then on top of that not have the strength to actually leave.

the movie is not synaptic to abusers and it does not romanticize abuse for portraying things with nuance. i am not saying this in defence of colleen hoover or the actors or even the movie in itself. i’m saying it because there are other ways to dunk on colleen hoover or the movie itself that don’t include holier than thou sentiments about victims of abuse.
