she feels him smile against her skin, causing her own smile to pull on her lips. she tugs his hair softly. “come here.” she watches as he lifts himself higher, until their noses brush together. she leans up, letting her lips slant softly against his. she groans softly as she feels his weight rest against her. their lips part, as her hands brush the hair off his forehead. she takes a deep breath, a content sigh slipping passed her lips. she adjusts her knees next to his hips, a small smirk tugging at her lips. “your turn.” she doesn’t give him time to protest, before she’s pushing him over onto his back. she smiles prettily down as him, before pressing a small kiss to his jawline.

My grandma was one of four kids and went through adolescence in the Depression and then herself had four kids after the war that she was trying to feed on her husband's income. I don't think she ever let go of the mentality of stretching food as far as possible, and couldn't/didn't plan on any extra unless she knew ahead of time. Granted, this is all secondhand from stories mom has told.

Mom internalized a lot of that, as one does, from her formative years, and it was cemented by being a single mom. So I grew up just...never expecting to be fed at others' houses unless it was outright said (it wasn't polite to assume I'd be fed). I still don't expect it unless it's explicitly stated (which explains some of my weirdness, irl friends)

That being said, I don't have people over usually, but if I do I make sure I'm looooooaded up on food so I can feed them. So there's a generational component, sure, but that can go away as easily as it starts: depends on the immediate situation and the dynamics and needs of the community you find yourself in
