Thinking about Opportunity... Did you know they named an astroid after her. She was the first rover to travel the distance of a marathon and her mission lasted 55 times longer than intended. She literally WAS a completely new opportunity for Mars exploration. The team operating her were the ones who gave her the "Oppy" nickname. They had a whole playlist called Opportunity, wake up! for when they lost contact with her and sent over 1000 recovery commands. The last song they played her was "I'll be seeing you" by Billie Holiday.

Edit: if I may add something, I'm not referring to their ground control when I say Spirit and Oppy are controlled by Macbooks. I mean the actual computer brains inside the rovers - as well as those for most of the 1990s-2000s Mars missions - were the same computers that were used in Macbooks. Enjoy!

So I made kind of an impulse purchase this evening of a locket. The seller had a service where they would print the pictures out for you if you send them.

"Perfect," I thought, "I don't have access to a color printer right now, this will make things so much easier"
