Trial by fire
Idiotic hot take of mine:
Children should be introduced to computers via the command line only.
No smartphones. No iPad babies. We use BASH in this household.
Pros:
- Children have to actually learn how a computer works in order to use it.
- No dark design patterns. No hyperoptimized attention vortex in your pocket.
- Your 7 year old can brag to the other kids on the playground that they use Arch btw.
- Easier to sandbox into a VM to prevent installation of malware.
- Can use FreeDOS to raise them with an understanding of legacy systems.
- By the time they figure out how to connect to the internet they will be ready for it.
Cons:
- sudo rm -rf

I think it is very cool how tech companies, schools, employers, and universities make it actively difficult to distance yourself from Google, Microsoft, and Apple.
Yes most Linux distros are very stable, way more secure, privacy friendly, and way more customizable. But every institution is built to make technological independence as difficult as possible.
Yelling on the internet that everyone should switch to Linux and FOSS really ignores how much of the technological world is designed to not let that happen.

I love it when Linux is just like "you want to update 277 packages? no problem. I gotcha fam"
Tumblr media
takes like 8 minutes max due to download size. meanwhile windows updates makes my machine do fuck all expect show a spinning circle for 3 hours and then randomly fail because I didn't pass the vibe check and now my hard drive is corrupted.

Perhaps 3024 will finally be the year of the Linux desktop.
I hope that 100 years from now, a day will come when everyone uses privacy-enabled Linux (or some sort of *BSD), and those users have no clue what the Windows hell from soul-sucking corporations like Microsoft looks like. A boy can dream, can't he?

i am earnestly appreciative of the sincerity that went into making this but also i want OP to know this makes sense to probably 12 people in the world and everyone else is left woefully with no positive net understanding of anything in the image

People need to break their computers more often, and I mean that with my whole heart.
Loose a few screws while taking apart your laptop
Flash a stupid Linux distro
Accidentally break your kernal
Fuck up a software update
Fixing broken things is one of the best ways to become more computer literate. It developes the basis for all of your understanding going forward. Learning the intricacies of your operating system and of your hardware is something that is so powerful: in both self confidence and in self sufficiency way! I mean this especially for Windows or Mac users.
No one is to blame for technical or computer illiteracy besides corporate greed. Corporations directly benefit from your not knowing how your computer works.
Fixing something is the first, and most important, steps in liberating yourself from the technologic corporate chokehold of recent history.
