Open Stage (Harrisburg) Noel and Ricky just chilling?
Tumblr media
It took me some time to finish, but here they are!
They’re reading some kind of niche sci-fi comic Ricky brought to school

Theatre South Playhouse in Florida put on a holiday edition of Ride the Cyclone, I thought I’d post a few highlights/iconic changes.
*I saw it today (December 22nd), which is actually Ocean’s birthday! Ocean is so incredibly special to me as a character, so seeing the show on her birthday made it all the more special.
*Karnak’s opening line “Greetings children, it’s time to play” was changed to “Merry Christmas, children, it’s time to sleigh.” Iconic, 10/10, no notes.
*The nativity scene during Noel’s Lament:
“There is no room at the inn, for it is Christmas.”
*Entire cast stares out into the audience with a knowing look, and collectively goes “Ahhhhh?? 😏”
*Mischa refers to his YouTube channel as “Bad Eggnog.”
RTC is a pop-up show at this theatre, meaning it is going to come back at a few different points next year! It’s going to be at Theatre South for at least one week every month of January, February, and March of 2025. I can’t recommend seeing it enough if you’re at all interested in the show and able to stop by. See below: The stage, Playbill, and a keychain I bought from concessions :)

My Imaginary Ride The Cyclone Hybrid Live-Action and Animation Feature Film that only exists in my head: Part 1
I originally wrote this in response to @sleepboysummer 's post about wanting to bring back the "imaginary rtc production in my head' trend, but it got so long I felt like it deserved it's own post. And then that got so long that I had to split it into multiple parts 😅
Anyway, here's my concept for what I would want for a Ride The Cyclone movie. This part covers everything from the beginning (Introduction + Uranium Suite) to "Talia".
The majority of the movie is shot in live-action, but colored in sepia (Think like the Wizard of Oz but while Dorothy is still in Kansas). The coloring is meant to represent how dreary the choir felt like their lives were living in Uranium.
Karnak will be a life-size animatronic creature puppet from Jim Henson's Creature shop.
The warehouse, despite presumably being abandoned for years, appears to look no worse for wear (for now). Sure, lots of old carnival stuff is stored here. Yet for some reason, nothing seems to have fallen into significant disrepair. It just looks kinda old.
Karnak's opening dialogue will have different jokes depending on whether the audience is watching the movie in theaters vs if they're watching it on home video. The theater version can keep the "armrest bit". But the home video will have it's own joke to replace it.
The first half of "Uranium Suite" is shown as a flashback. We see the choir in competition, snippets of them getting their fortunes read and enjoying the other rides at the carnival, then boarding the doomed Cyclone rollercoaster.
When Karnak says the line "hurtling the children to their deaths", we watch the choir's rollercoaster cart fly off the loopty-loop. But rather than hitting the ground, they stay floating through the air for a while. It's only when they say the lines "round and round and round" when they slowly start to descend toward the ground. Right when they're about to crash and hit the ground, the scene changes. We see the choir land in the warehouse, their souls summoned by Karnak. They get back up, almost robotically, and perform some (Karnak-controlled) choreography for the end of the song.
When it comes to the choir's individual songs, the visuals change to animation. And to reflect the individuality of the choir members, every song uses a different art style.
"What the World Needs" will use 3D CGI animation that has a classic Disney/Pixar look to it. This is meant to reflect multiple aspects at once (the happy/poppy style of the song, Ocean's bubbly personality, etc.)
During her number, Ocean dons a dramatic costume change. She's got a bright pink power suit (think like if Barbie was a businesswoman)
After her number, the world returns to normal (live-action and sepia). We see Ocean standing on the human pyramid wearing a loose pink necktie. This is meant to show that the animated sequences are "dreams" acted out by the choir. The costume pieces they get in real life were from storage.
"Noel's Lament" is animated in 2D black and white animation. Think like the classic Betty Boop cartoons from the 1930s. Additionally, his entire song is recorded through a radio filter (think like how Alastor sounds in Hazbin Hotel). That way it really makes him sound like he's from the "olden days".
"This Song is Awesome" will have a gritty, graffiti type art style. Whereas "Talia" will be done entirely in watercolor.
The transition from "This Song is Awesome" to "Talia" will be different from the stage version. "This Song is Awesome" will be framed like Mischa's dream bachelor party. We see him living it up as a world-famous rapper, partying with his friends, then taking the private jet to Ukraine. When he says "And then I see this girl. Shawty." at the end of "This Song is Awesome", there's a visual gap between where Mischa is standing (still in the graffiti art style) and where Talia is standing (in watercolor). We can hear the beginning notes of "Talia" being played in the background. Noel leans close to Mischa and asks, "Who's that?", referring to Talia in front of them. Mischa says, "That is my girlfriend. I was saving up to move back to Ukraine just to see her. Natalia Muruska Bolinska." As he says her name, Mischa steps between the gap, changing his appearance (and the rest of their surroundings along with him) to the "Talia" watercolor style.
EDIT: Here's the link to Part 2! Sorry for splitting it up. Tumblr literally wouldn't let me post it as one large chunk. ^^;

Hi, how are you?
I love you stories. I was a little confused about the "relinquish the crown"
I thought it ended with the wedding. Is there more?
Hello! I'm doing pretty good, just trying to get back into the whole writer mindset after some stuff happened last month that threw a wrench in my plans 😅
About 'relinquish the crown'…it was originally supposed to be a drabble that was inspired by a TikTok POV…and then while writing it it turned into the 4-part that ended with the wedding. And then outtakes happened…
And then my brain started thinking about it in story arcs instead of just outtakes…which led to the series being organized now into "Seasons".
So now the 4-parter that ends with the wedding is the 'prologue' of the story, setting the scene for what the Seasons will eventually lead up to. Season 1 covers Reader & Loki's initial meeting up until the events of part 2 of the prologue, Seasons 2 and 3 are still in pre-development stages 😅
I completely understand being confused with it, though, because honestly sometimes I get confused too and I have to repeatedly go back on my notes to "un-confuse" myself 😂 My asks and DMs are always open for any RTC related questions though 💖🫡

Let’s talk about my first theory of relativity experience!
In the production I saw everyone was wearing white. Different clothes but it was all white and barefoot. It was really beautiful and I loved the look of it!
The opening number was amazing. The music was just perfectly written and performed.
The first song being I’m allergic to cats was so silly. It gave Leaf Coneybear Vibes to me except in another universe because Leaf loved cats. It’s a very silly time and the actor was fantastic.
Pi pt. 1: Watching this character come out for this the first time was amazing. I relate to them so much he’s so silly. I sit there and memorize pi because I’m scared of asking people out? Yes.
The end of the line: This is one of the two songs that I’ve heard before driving to this show and I loved the section I heard originally, but seeing the whole song performed live was beautiful. The story is just so investing and I love it.
Great expectations: this song is fabulous. The staging was amazing with the boards on stage. I really enjoyed it and it was so powerful. This song is just perfection.
Relativity (Reprise 1): brining the show back to the title was great. This song hit so hard after great expectations.
Footprint: This song was amazing. The way that the song and the actor told this story was perfection. The dog and then the sister and then the PARENTS. This song just hit so close to me for some reason. Perfection.
Pi pt. 2: I was so happy when this silly little guy came out again. He is perfection to be protected at ALL COSTS. I want to hug him.
Lipstick: This song was so cute. Her talking about hating the shade was so funny and him calculating how to graze her hand. Perfect rom com meet cute.
Apples and oranges: this song was so fucking goofy. I loved it so much and when Ryan (footprint guy) came as the guy that liked oranges. I was giggling and kicking my feet.
Me and Ricky: this song is amazing and executed perfectly. When she smeared the red lipstick on her white shirt it was just OMFG. When I first listened to this song in the car I was thinking of RTC Ricky which was funny. Like oh what if she’s Penny and he’s Ricky. I do have a question: did she kill him? TT
Promise me this: First, how is Erika e v e r y w h e r e. But this song hit so hard and I almost started completely sobbing. The way they staged it with her descriptions being shadows on the cyc *chefs kiss*
Julie’s song: I was sitting there at first being like “wait are these the fucking cats” but it was so cute and both of the characters are PERFECT
Pi pt. 3/Relativity (Reprise 2): I loved all the pi parts but watching him literally crawl out. This song made me so happy when he finally said he’d go and talk to her.
Relative pitch: for some reason I can’t remember this very well. The harmonies are beautiful though.
You will never know: This song with the lipstick people was even better to me. There was so much for me to walk and when they went backwards and then forwards. I loved it.
Person A reprise: bringing this back after seeing the whole story was the best fucking thing. No words just happiness.
Nothing without you: this song made me so sad and gave me such a boost I actually just wanted to curl up and cry for twenty minutes.
Cake monologues: these monologues being sprinkled in were GENIUS. I loved all of these monologues. And when her and pi kid got together I had the best time of my life. I’m literally him.
Nail monologue: this monologue was so long. Like respect for memorizing it. All the stories intertwining made me so fucking happy.
This show was with live accompaniment which was great and it also had a ton of awesome lifts. Perfection.
This show was AMAZING. After I thought “that show was so fucking good there’s no way I can like ride the cyclone more right” spoiler: I was wrong… very wrong. The music was amazing. The cast was amazing. Everything was amazing.
Thank you inner voice! And thank you for reading all of this TT
