Llorona's relations w/ The Donquixote Family
For the most part, she's the only member of the crew that Doffy forced her to join. Her role of the crew is their treasurer because of her background of being a jeweler. Layla's "loyalty" is rooted in her fear of dying but she still has a bit of fondness for some members.
Doflamingo
Tumblr media
She is absolutely terrified of Doflamingo
Won't look into his eyes since the first escape attempt gave her the tear tattoos on her face
She's aware that the only reason he wants her in the family is because of her devil fruit
Tries to avoid him as best as she can but it's difficult since he seeks her out
In Doffy's perspective, he has a sense of nostalgia of owning a slave as a celestial dragon
Mix in his mommy issues and you get uncomfortable interactions
Corazon
Tumblr media
She's so confused by this man, they might be friends?
One moment he's cold and distant then suddenly he's attentive and surprisingly sweet???
Hates the fact that he hits the kids but knows she can't stop him
When it's just them together he shows that he has a sense of humor and can get her to laugh
Her reflexes have gotten better with his clumsiness
In Corazon's perspective, he knows he can't get her out without Doffy hunting her down so he tries his best to make her life less miserable
He finds her normalcy comforting and seeks her company when he's tired of everyone else
He does freak out internally when he realizes he fell for her and tries to hide it (beats himself up out of guilt)
Giolla
Tumblr media
She finds her very... Eccentric...
This "friendship" is very much just her agreeing to Giolla's taste in art and crafting her "unique" taste of jewelry
Llorona does appreciate that there's another woman in the group
There is a hidden feeling of resentment towards her since it was Giolla's decision to take her in
In Giolla's perspective, she adores having another artist in the group
Loves having to pick out her clothes (with Doffy's input) and dresses her up like a doll
Appreciates the helping hand in taking care of the children
Senior Pink
Tumblr media
She finds him one of the most normal out of everyone
At some point she pinpointed a romantic man underneath that hard boiled exterior
Teases him endlessly and likes to offer advice even if he won't take it (he keeps it cool through it all)
In Senior's perspective: finds her to be too fragile to be in the family, both mentally and physically
He only protects her if it's dire, he'll never let anyone in the family break his demeanor
He does go to her in designing the engagement ring for Russian
Tumblr media
Diamante
She finds him extremely irritating
His constant prying and accusations of her relations with Corazon is one thing but also pursuing her? Annoying!
She uses his ego against him to leave her alone but it'll just be temporary and he'll be back at it again!
Diamante's perspective: he likes his women feisty and since her husband is dead it's fine to flirt (like he'd cared anyway)
But he has noticed that Corazon tends to be softer with her, if he's going to claim her then he has to have his fun first
Tumblr media
Trebol
Disgusting! Revolting! Hates him and is loud about it
Everything he says gets on her nerves and causes her to lose her composure
Hates his power too! Reminds her of frogs (she hates them too)
Trebol's perspective: finds her outbursts amusing
Only sees her as a source of entertainment and as a weapon
Tumblr media
Lao G
She finds him a bit odd but not off-putting
He kind of reminds her of her own grandparents
She enjoys his company and often spends her time just chatting away
His sudden bursts of energy when it comes to the letter G does surprise her from time to time
Lao G's perspective: a soft hearted young lady, maybe too soft hearted
Enjoys the company and finds her to be a well member of the family
Tumblr media
Gladius and Pica
She feels like she's walking on eggshells around those two
Knows they're very destructive when they're angry and tries to avoid that as much as possible
If something riles them up, she'll try to calm them down (it never really works)
Gladius's perspective: he finds her bearable until she tries to butt in to calm him down
Pica's perspective: thinks of her like any other member, hasn't caught her laughing at his voice so she's safe for now...
Tumblr media
The kids
She adores them!
She enjoys their company and raising them helps fill in the void of losing her son
But feels terrible that they're part of this crew and what they do to them
She wants them to leave and live a normal life but doesn't want to be left alone with these pirates
Baby 5's perspective: loves that she can be of use to someone so nice! Another girl in the group that loves romance too is wonderful to have
Buffalo's perspective: loves having her around! She's so nice and gives them ice cream when they're good
They both never want her to leave :)
Tumblr media
Law
She saw her son in Law's eyes for a moment and it freaked her out
Kept her distance for a bit to avoid breaking down in front of him
It broke her heart hearing his story, she thought she has a chance to heal with him only to find out he'll die too
Tries to have Law get close with the other kids so he won't feel lonely
Law's perspective: he assumed that she avoided him because of his disease and hated her for it
When she stopped and tries to be nice with him, only confused and irritated him
Only tolerated her kindness since she's the only adult that doesn't harm the kids

Bartolomeo is actually just me if I actually got to see Zoro stunt on a dude, hit a pretty boy smile and pose like he knows he's hot shit while declaring in his smooth baritone that he will be the world's greatest one day.
I would also 100% not know how to act and would also like his autograph.

Doflamingo and the Donquixote Pirates: Does he love them?
Tumblr media
Doflamingo and the Donquixote Pirates are one of the most complex dynamics in One Piece, and fans are often split on whether Doflamingo truly loves his family. My take? He does, but it’s incredibly complicated.
From a young age, Doflamingo was raised by people who drilled into him the idea that their lives were expendable for his ambitions.
All the Donquixote Pirates grew up starving on the streets, seeing Doflamingo as their savior. Their journey began as street urchins, struggling to survive in a harsh world. To get by, they turned to a life of crime, driven by desperation and hunger. This life was all they knew until they encountered Doflamingo, a boy with incredible power.
To these people, Doflamingo was a ticket out of their miserable existence. They saw in him a potential leader who could offer them protection, purpose, and a chance to rise above their circumstances. In their eyes, he was a savior who could change their fate.
In turn, they fed Doflamingo toxic ideologies, reinforcing his already warped sense of self-worth and destiny. They told him he was destined for greatness and that their lives were a small price to pay for his ascent to power. This constant reinforcement shaped Doflamingo's mindset, making him believe that true loyalty meant being willing to die for one's leader.
As they followed him, the bond between Doflamingo and his crew grew more complex and entangled. His followers' unwavering loyalty and willingness to sacrifice themselves bolstered his belief in his own superiority and right to rule. He saw their sacrifices as proof of their devotion, not realizing that he was perpetuating a cycle of manipulation and exploitation.
This twisted form of loyalty is evident in many ways, such as Monet willingly sacrificing herself for him to save Caesar. It’s clear that his crew’s dedication feeds into his toxic mindset.
Take Baby 5, for instance. Doflamingo killed her predatory fiancés, but he never had a heartfelt conversation about stranger danger with her . He’s too damaged to provide that kind of emotional guidance.
When Law held Giolla captive and Doflamingo hesitated in his attack on the Sunny, Giolla later expressed she’d happily die for him. This reinforced his skewed perception of loyalty.
He has moments that show genuine care, like getting angry when Law used his powers on Buffalo and Baby 5 or insisting that no one laugh at Pica’s voice. He compliments Diamante, likely to get him off his ass and do his job.
Doflamingo’s care for Caesar Clown is another intriguing aspect. Ensuring Caesar’s safety would keep him safe from Kaido’s wrath, but he also calls Caesar his “cute subordinate” in the original Japanese, indicating some level of affection.
The complexity deepens with Corazon. Doflamingo only hinted at wanting Corazon to use the Op-Op Fruit to grant him immortality after Corazon left and the Navy was conveniently off their tails. He suspected his brother of being a spy and may have wanted to hurt him out of betrayal. Though I might be grasping at straws with this one.
In his own twisted way, Doflamingo tries to “help” by taking kids off the street and giving them powers to fight against the oppressive society they were born into . However, this is a mirror of his own upbringing, where Trebol groomed him to be a criminal and surrounded him with people who would die for him. Intentionally or not, Doflamingo perpetuates this cycle with his subordinates.
Ultimately, Doflamingo’s love for his family is there, but it’s marred by a lifetime of manipulation, violence, and a deeply ingrained toxic mindset.

Doflamingo's Past: The initial concept
Some old information but I don't see around a lot, scan credits to Redon. These are from One Piece magazine vol. 3.
Tumblr media
Zooming in,
Tumblr media
- Doflamingo at 5 enjoys his life as Tenryubito.
- His father (Donquixote Dressking) who looks tough and serious ("righteous thinker", "friends with Cobra") refuses antipathy and as a result was transferred to a non-WG member country along with his wife and his only son.
- Doflamingo's mother can't survive the foul living condition and dies.
- Doflamingo wanting to become Tenryubito takes his father's head back to Mariejeoise at the age of 10.
Tumblr media
- Doflamingo is declined by Tenryubito who try to kill him.
- Doflamingo flees and survives. He develops a goal to destroy the world.
- Around 15, he forms a crime syndicate "Downs" (ダウンズ) and is revered as the charismatic boss.
- His subordinates were Pica, Trebol, Diamante and Corazon, there's also Vergo (Vergo's other name in the bracket is written as "Sir Dean").
- Corazon here isn't Doflamingo's brother.
- Around when Doflamingo was 17, Roger was executed and he was inspired by the man to pursue piracy, his goal changed to "becoming the pirate king." He continues operating underworld as Joker.
Tumblr media
Nothing much here, I like the observation that Gatz announcing the fight between Doflamingo and Luffy makes it seem like an extension of Colosseum battle. That's a neat way to tie it up.
Some additional info (canon version) from OP vivre card translated by Artur:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wish I could read the JP text myself but it seems Viola's case was something like a Stockholm syndrome after all.
Personal highlight would be Rosinante eating his DF before meeting Sengoku (which means Sengoku didn't immediately find him. Rosi probably survived all by himself for quite some time), and Doflamingo developing the habit to smile at everything from a "certain point onwards." Imagine Rosinante returning to his brother who now smiles all the time. That is terrifying, I feel like it adds so much to Rosi's face having the artificial smile on him.

ooc: lol did we all have pica? !!!!TW!!!! but like for over five years as a kid i ate paper instead of food bc the sensory issues around a lot of the foods that are in my town were rlly bad as a kid (and still now but i dont eat paper anymore) and then it was just habit. i also dabbled in plastic, my hair, glue, and the ends of my sleeves. not fun do NOT recommend
Thank you for the reassurance, Telemachus, I know you’re going a little crazy currently but the recovering pica kids of the world feel very valid 👍
You’re welcome 🔥🔥

Because I enjoy posting my hot takes 10 years late, here’s the definitive ranking of the Devil Fruits of the Donquixote Pirates!
Doflamingo: String-String fruit. This fruit can do anything. It doesn’t need to make sense. He can fly. He can tie his own organs together. He can create clones of himself. How? Who cares? 9/10.
Buffalo: Spin-Spin fruit. Turns into a helicopter. Sure. 4/10.
Baby 5: Arms-Arms fruit. Turns into weapons. Sure. 5/10.
Gladius: Pop-Pop fruit. Explodes, makes other things explode. Pretty cool. Extra point for a neat character design. 8/10.
Machvise: Ton-Ton fruit. Can change his weight at will. This is exactly the same as Miss Valentine’s Kilo-Kilo fruit and I don’t care what logic Oda used to pardon a duplicate. -100/10.
Senor Pink: Swim-Swim fruit. Can swim through anything. This would be a cool fruit if he did anything other than use it to suplex Franky over and over again for 800 episodes. 3/10.
Jiolla: Art-Art fruit. This power is pretty cool, all things considered, but Jiolla has no taste so 5/10.
Violet: Glare-Glare fruit. Sure, let’s just create a character who can see detail at unfathomable distance and read minds and then do almost nothing with her. 9/10 for the fruit but 4/10 for the utilization.
Sugar: Hobby-Hobby fruit. Possibly the best fruit in all of One Piece for absolutely how little it makes sense. Sure, the ‘hobby’ fruit lets you turn people into toys, which causes everyone else to forget they ever existed, and also you don’t age, and also you can never sleep because if you do all the toys will turn back to being human. 100/10, never change, Oda.
Pica: Stone-Stone fruit. Pretty average for a Devil Fruit. Turns into stone, merges with stone, et cetera. Super powerful so 8/10.
Diamante: Ripple-Ripple fruit. Seems strange but this one grew on me. I love the way he takes objects, turns them into little flags so he can store them and then turn them back into objects (weapons) later. 7/10.
Trebol: Stick-Stick fruit. Gross. An abomination wielded by a character with zero redeeming qualities. Also, gross. -10000/10.
Corazon: Calm-Calm fruit. Extinguishes sound in an area of user's control. Damn do I wish we'd seen more of this one. 8/10.
Trafalgar Law: Op-Op fruit. The fuck you in particular fruit. The 'I do what I want' fruit. The 'I will play basketball with your head' fruit. 10000/10.
Bonus round! Fujitora: Press-Press fruit. Controls gravity. Sometimes throws meteors at people. 25/10 for the fruit itself, -10/10 for how long he took to decide that maybe capturing Luffy was less important than stopping Doflamingo from killing an entire island of people.

The L Word Reboot - Fancast
So, what if we get a TLW reboot? So this is my Fancast for that hypothetical idea
Adria Arjona as Bette Porter
Listen, no one is gonna match JBeals portray of the character, but we can try to find someone who can do it justice (this actually can be said about this whole fancast really). And in this case, I think Adria ia really good at bringing this girl boss aura. Of course, it would be a change in Bette's back story and struggles, being all about her latin ancestry instead of her black/mixed ancestry but I still think it could work just fine. Or, if they want an older actress to portray an older Bette, there's Zoe Saldana who is in their 40's
Tumblr media
Phoebe Dynevor as Tina Kennard
Look at her, just look.
Tumblr media
Nell Tiger Free as Jenny Schecter
Okay, okay, I just want to see her play gay. Busted. But in defense, she is great at doing a problematic -with crazy girl aura - character. Fellas who watched Servant will understand. But other actress who could play the role is Victoria Pedretti
Tumblr media
Joe Keery as Tim Haspel
Jenny's betrayal is supposed to hurt both Tim and the the audience, as we should be caught in a cross fire between wanting her to be with Marina and yet not approving her cheating on Tim. And who's better than Joe? Bro is charismatic and would evoke those feelings in the audience
Tumblr media
Kelsey Chow as Marina Ferrer
Look at her gaze. Just look. She effortlessly has this striking gaze that is essential to Marina
Tumblr media
Ayo Edebiri as Alice Pieszecki
I don't think I need to sell you this one
Tumblr media
Naomi Scott as Shane McCutcheon
I know what some of y'all my think, that she is not gay or butch but just look at this photo and tell me y'all can't see the potential?
Tumblr media
Sarah Pidgeon as Dana Fairbanks
Girl needs to work, she is great
Tumblr media
Stephanie Nur as Helena Peabody
Fellas who watched Spec Ops Lioness knows what I'm talking about.
Tumblr media
Melissa Barrera as Carmen de la Pica Morales
I also don't think I need to sell you this one
Tumblr media
Ps: There's actresses I wanted to put in this but I didn't see how they could fit, at least not without changing the essence of those characters but I definitely wanted to see Katy O'Brien, Alice Braga, Lucy Lawless, Carla Gugino...and other openly queer actresses like Katy in this type of projects

Truly Baffled every time I see people actually interpreting Doffy as someone who cares deeply for his family
Like if we're writing fanfic that's all fine and good, we're allowed to have fun and indulge ourselves, but I always find people in comments sections talking about how canon Doffy cares for the Doflamingo family deeply or somehow reaching for the conclusion that he deeply trusted or valued Rosinante and started mentally slipping after killing him, interpreting that one scene in the big Dressrossa fight where he flashes back to Cora and screams as evidence of this, and I have to wonder, did we witness the same character or did I somehow pirate the wrong version of One Piece? You mean to tell me that Donquixote Doflamingo, Mr "Threaten every subordinate with death if they fail, and disparage them to their faces for fucking up when they're injured defending me", Mr "Order Monet to commit suicide and take out my enemies with her", Mr "My little brother will eat the Ope Ope no Mi and die for my immortality" has any concern for his minions beyond how they function as extensions of himself, and how well they're suited his needs? Of course he doesn't feel the need to punish his executives horrifically for every minor transgression or unfortunate turn of events because he's smart enough to tell there's no need to get rid of anyone who's still useful and still extremely vulnerable to his manipulation but like
This is a man who immediately defaults to disparaging those very same people when they fail in their objectives, and who clearly has no qualms about giving them up entirely if the cost of losing them is outweighed by any potential threat to his operations. Anything that could be possibly, remotely interpreted as him displaying his own brand of care or defending them (i.e. sanctioning murder whenever someone mocks Pica's voice, murdering Baby 5's manipulative partners, specifically studying Flevance to better manipulate understand Law and trying to convince him their traumas are similar and he gets it too, so he'll enable his violent thoughts and help him pursue destruction) is a very nakedly obvious abuser tactic designed either to maximize his hold over them or to treat any slight against them as a slight on his authority. If Oda wanted to make him a character who cares for people in a fucked up way, it would have been very very easy to give him any moment of internal monologue that implies that much, but he's only demonstrated anything resembling care for one person in all his flashbacks and absolutely nothing other than deep-seated contempt whenever we get a flash of who he really is beyond the facade he puts on. I've got a whole thesis on why he likely behaved in ways that were deeply upsetting or harmful to Cora (if not outright abusing him) even before all the shit went down in their childhoods and he killed Homing, but suffice to say that Doffy is a good villain specifically *because* he puppeteers his followers via implicit and explicit control and manipulation tactics, and has no regard whatsoever for anyone other than himself and he doesn't actually need to have any redeeming qualities to be a complex and well-written character.
