FUCK IT FRIDAY!

i was tagged by the super-talented @playinginthunderstorms (you can check out their brilliant fuck-it friday snippet HERE).

this is from my 'buck comes out to eddie' fic i started yesterday, which doesn't yet have even a working title. i think i might make it a series of vignettes, that will start with the basketball game... we shall see how it pans out!

Eddie can't tell himself he's never thought about it. He has, but he's never—weighed any of it up, exactly. Hasn't openly considered it, or let himself examine the idea there could've been anything else. That there could still be something else. There's only how things were, the way it'd gone a certain way for him when it came to romantic relationships. Him and a girl. Him and a woman. Him and a wife. That's just the way it's always been; the way things are for Eddie. 

Until Buck is metaphorically punching him square in the face with so many huge revelations in the space of a few stark truths that Eddie apparently couldn't, or wouldn't, allow himself to look at. He's thinking of that saying: Something about not being able to see the wood for all the trees? The forest surrounding Eddie's life has always been so frighteningly dense, with no room at all for his branches to grow any taller or wider than his allotted space.

Now Eddie is being forced into thinking about it, fully, for the first time ever, and doesn't have time to process what the hell any of it might mean. A little ruefully, he thinks he'd probably prefer a literal punch to the face than have to deal with this.

He's at once remembering Buck barrelling into him on the basketball court, which—dios, makes so much sense to him now. 

Buck and Tommy went on a date together. When he and Marisol saw them at the restaurant, they were on a date. With each other. 

His brain goes into overdrive. 

“Wait, Tommy's gay?” 

All of his and Tommy's previous interactions are now running through Eddie's head as a flickering montage; some janky film reel spliced together in non-linear fashion. And it makes him feel really shitty, re-assessing Tommy's behaviour just because of the guy's sexuality, but it's just—again, certain things are making sense now that Eddie's been supplied with this new information. Those bits and pieces of thoughts and notions he hadn't been able to make fit anywhere are coming together. Stuff he'd willed himself not to ponder over, it's all sort of slotting into place. 

“Ah, that never came up while you guys were hanging out?” Buck asks. 

He tells Buck no (because it very much hadn't) and that it wouldn't have mattered to him anyway. Which it wouldn't, obviously, he just feels like his brain—or no, his body, maybe, had tried to tell him this but he hadn't listened.

Why hadn't he listened? 

Then it hits him, kind of like a large shot of tequila, that he's not at all surprised by the fact Buck went on a date with a man.

Secondary is the thought that he doesn't know why he isn't taken aback at that.

Jin: He would be super supportive, always find sneaky ways to promote your book like having it conveniently placed in the background of selfies. Tho he’d also be half jokingly convinced that every new character is somehow based on him. “Ooh, this guy’s really interesting, and handsome, what’s his deal?” *wiggles eyebrows knowingly* They’re not based on him, but he keeps trying(the one that is tho, he hasn’t asked about yet, lol)

Yoongi: I think he would really admire you being a writer, but he would also try to respect your creative privacy, similar to how he is with the other members' projects. He’ll read it when it’s finished, that’s how it’s supposed to work. But truthfully, he’s also not-so-secretly thrilled and touched whenever you ask for his feedback or opinion on whatever you’re working on.

Hobi: He would be such a huge supporter of your work! He would read and promote everything you release, even sometimes begging to read your wips, even if they’re still in the nonsense, first draft phase(or as I call them, hell drafts). He might worry about you sometimes if you’re overly focused on a project, taking up the task and making sure you’re getting enough rest and looking after yourself.

Namjoon: He would be so in love with the fact that you’re a writer! He’s an avid reader and would be so happy with being able to watch you bring each new story to life, always ready and willing to beta read anything or give advice if you need him. He makes a point to go to local bookstores to buy your books when they’re released(maybe even trying to go incognito to attend your book signings, hehe)

Jimin: He honestly thinks you’re a genius, it doesn’t matter the genre or how many books you write, he’s always in total awe, tho I think he might struggle at times with your need for so much time on your own to work. But he would find little ways to help and spend time with you, basically becoming your assistant and making sure you have whatever you need; bringing you coffee, making sure you’ve eaten and move around every couple hours.

Taehyung: He really admires your work and loves getting to help out in any way he can, whether that's helping act out scenes with you to test the flow of everything, or just making sure you have a quiet space to focus. He’s the type to surprise you with little weekend getaways to help you recharge and give you a change of scenery to work through any writer's block or issues you might be having.

Jungkook: He would get soo invested in your characters, wanting to know every little detail about them and mourning every misfortune that befalls them. I’m talking calling you up at 3 am, outraged like “WHY WOULD YOU MAKE THEM BREAK UP?! THEY WERE PERFECT TOGETHER!!” Fr tho, he would love your mind and creativity, and would tell you so as often as you’d let him(possibly while trying to get spoilers for the next book in the series, but-)

Retro tutorial?

Disclaimer: Tumblr, for some reason, likes to dullen the colour of the screenshots, just know that they're actually a bit more saturated and brighter than how they appear here.

So, after posting my recent retro drawings on Reddit, and getting some comments that genuinely made me cry (/pos), I noticed I also got quite a few comments asking me how I actually do these drawings.

Er, I'm not the best teacher, really, and honestly, there's probably an easier, faster way to do it. But, this is my way of doing it, lmao. I work on a Gen 2 iPad Pro with a Gen 1 Apple Pencil, just in case you're wondering.

Firstly, here are the four apps I use for this kind of drawing:

From left to right: Sketchbook Pro, Pixlr, Photoleap and CapCut. Sketchbook Pro is what I use to draw everything. You could honestly use any drawing app though. We will talk about the other three when we get to them.

Step 1: draw whatever it is you want to draw.

I'm going to use the first drawing I did in this style to help me explain: my simpy Spamton drawing! Firstly, basically draw whatever your little heart wants. Get your sketch layer down. Here's what my sketch layer looked like:

Looks bad, no? Lol, it always starts that way. Just get your drawing down first. I rely heavy on references for clothing. I found this particular pose on Pinterest. Pinterest is great for finding references.

Notice that I have some spaces filled in with the word 'black'. This is literally just to remind me that the particular space will just be filled with a solid black.

This particular pose and setting is tricky, I'm just using it as an example and because I still have the original files for it. I recommend maybe starting with a portrait or a face first.

Step 2: fill in and clean your lines. This is important, especially for the anime look.

When I do linework, I tend to make the lines thicker wherever they meet one another. For this style, it doesn't really work, and I had to train myself to stop doing that.

As you can see, I made some changes along the way, such as making Spamton's expression softer and making him grin instead of smirking. How do I know when to make something solid black? This is mostly for clothes. If you are following a reference, and you notice that some of the shadows are darker than others on the reference, make those darkest shadows your solid-blacks.

So, here we have the finished lines! Remember: no making the lines thicker where they meet! Keep the lines thin all around. If you're wondering what brush I use in Sketchbook for the finished lines, it's this one:

This is the ONLY brush I use for the retro drawings, besides a pencil for the sketch layer. It provides a nice, solid, thin line.

Step 3: Filling Flat Colours.

The easiest step IMO. Choose your colours, fill those babies in.

Unfortunately, I think I deleted my flats layer (I have no idea why, but I cannot find it, lmao), so I don't have an image to show for this step. But, it's self-explanatory. Just colour it in with your flats.

You can choose saturated colours if you wish, but we'll be editing that sort of stuff later.

Step 4: Shading.

Ooh, the tricky stuff. But this is what will make or break the look of the drawing. Besides lines, shading is important as fuck for this style. I recommend pulling up some screenshots from actual 80s/90s anime. For this Spamton drawing, here's some of the ones I used as a reference:

Remember to make your shading on separate layers! You may want to change their tone and opacity later, as I did.

The shading in old anime is usually done with one colour, which is cooler-toned than the flat it is based off. Remember to keep the shading as simple as you can if you want to actually make it look like a screenshot from an anime or cartoon.

For shadows, I used the multiply tool or the overlay tool. You can mess around with these to see which one suits your drawing best. It mostly depends on the colour.

For 'lights', I used either the soft glow tool or the overlay tool. However, I don't recommend spending too much time 'lighting' your colours. Retro anime tends to focus more on shadows rather than lighting (obviously there are exceptions).

As you can see, the only 'lighting' I used on Spamton was a small section of his hair, and a shine on his suit. The rest is either shadows or flats:

For clothing, follow a reference or follow where your light is coming from. For this, I followed the reference.

Step 5 (Optional): Adding Gradients.

You don't need to do this, but to help with the 'mood' of the drawing, I added a gradient over the top of the layer. I chose a dark purple/blue to give that city vibe, then I used the darken tool and turned the opacity down. So, it looks like this:

The difference isn't much, but it will add a lot to the vibe!

Step 6 (Optional): Backgrounds. *Shudders.*

I'll be real, I can't do backgrounds for shit. Well, I can sort of do them, but I definitely don't enjoy it. If you can do your own backgrounds, this will probably come easier. I have a sneaky, maybe cheaty method, however, to make it look good.

Firstly, make sure any 'windows' or areas in your drawing that you want to add a background to are empty. The windows in Spamton's car here are transparent. You'll want to put your background layer at the very bottom, behind everything else.

Firstly, I choose a solid colour and fill the entire layer. I chose a navy/purple for this one, since it's always dark in Cyber City.

Then, and here's the cheat part, I find a stock image of a city skyline. I deliberately picked one that had sort of 'basic' buildings. Put this on top of your solid colour and use the hard light tool.

The hard light tool tends to focus on the lights and basic outline of the image. I did do some smudging and added some lights to give it that 'retro' feel. The lower quality it looks, the better. So then it looks like this:

But the car needs windows! Easy. I chose a blue colour with the soft glow tool and added them like so (on top of all the background layers):

Step 7: Editing in Pixlr.

Now, this is my favourite part: the editing to really make the image pop! Firstly, we are going to use Pixlr, so save your image and open it up in Pixlr.

So, in Pixlr I only do two things: choose some overlay editors and up the saturation. Firstly, the overlay editors. The ones I choose for the retro look are:

Antonio - this blurs the lines somewhat, and makes it overall darker/softer. I obviously do not use it to its full capacity (there's a slider you can mess around with under each tool to find your desired effect, though I recommend using Antonio only a little.)

Hagrid - this will make it look slightly more saturated and sharper. It also adds a sort of 'burn' effect on each outline of the colours. Again, I use this one only slightly.

Ivan - One of my favourites for Big Shot Spamton. Again, I only use it slightly. This one will add an orange effect and 'fix' some of your shading. Though, it only works to its full potential if you have your shading as best as it can be.

Sara - Another really good one for retro anime. It's sort of like Hagrid, but softer. Depending on your colours, it will also add a soft 'glow' effect. Because of this, I only use it a little, as older anime does not have the intense glow you see in more recent anime, in general.

There are lots of other options. You can play around to see which one will suit the vibe you're going for best!

Then, we go into the general menu and up the saturation if needed!

Step 8: Editing in Photoleap - then back to Sketchbook!

Why the fuck do you use two editors? Simple - Photoleap has some cool options that Pixlr does not, and vice versa. We won't be spending as much time in Photoleap compared to Pixlr.

Now, Photoleap does NOT allow screenshots within the app, so I just have to explain it without any images.

In Photoleap, we're only going to be doing two things, and one of those things are optional. Firstly, using the grain tool. This will really add to that 'old' look. Don't go too hard on it!

The optional thing you can do is add a red chromatic abberation. It's under the 'effects' tab in Photoleap. However, sometimes this will take away from the retro look, so use it carefully. I only used the tiniest amount for this drawing to make the lines look 'cleaner'.

Once I'm done in Photoleap, I save the image and export it back into Sketchbook. This is where I'll add/fix some things, such as adding a shine in Spamton's eyes, a shine on the car window and the smoke coming from his cigarette. I also bring the gradient layer back up and mess with the colour a bit (optional).

Have you noticed the large, black border to the right of the drawing? Yeah, that'll be cropped. I decided to make the overall image smaller and, unfortunately, Sketchbook Pro does not allow you to change the canvas size once you've started a drawing (please add this option, Autodesk!)

Step 9: CapCut Editing.

This will seriously be the cherry-on-top to actually make this thing look like a screenshot. Save your image and open it up in CapCut.

Firstly, you'll want to add an 'effect' to the photo. Under 'retro', I personally choose 'frosted quality', because it adds a moving grain and gives an 'old cartoon' feel, which is what I'm after. There are lots you can choose from, it's up to you to play around with it! You can also adjust the effect as you wish. I tend to turn the blur completely off.

Then, the last step in CapCut: adding a caption, if you want. I make the text yellow and add an italic effect to make it seem like an actual subtitle.

Step 10 (Final): Exporting.

That's us basically finished! I'll export it as a video from CapCut, crop it using my iPad's default editing software in the gallery, then export it as a GIF. Exporting it as a GIF lowers the quality a tad further, which is a bonus for this type of drawing. Viola! You now have a retro-anime-inspired piece!

Final Notes

Again, I'm not a good teacher and this is kind of all over the place, lmao. But, I hope it can guide those who wish to try this style!

"... I'm so sorry if it makes you uncomfortable. I just couldn't bear lying to you anymore. Do you... hate me for it?" he asks sheepishly.

"Not at all. I'm just surprised... kinda into it..."

"WHAT." he widens his eyes.

"Nothing." you backtrack, giggling nervously. "I didn't say that. You didn't hear that."

"Nahhh..." he looks at you with an intense gaze. "You definitely just said that... what, do you, like... have a kink for vampirism?" he jokes but your sheepish smile tells him he's right.

His heart pangs.

"Wow... that's freaky." he giggles.

Ooh... his fangy teeth are so subtle, so cute. Lil' chompers craving nothing more than to sink into your warm flesh.

"Sorry..."

"... don't be." he creeps closer to you. "It's cute... but... don't tempt me. Or I'll bite you. Joking... of course."

Well now he's looking desirously at your neck, struggling to maintain eye contact. He was so taken aback by you forwardly permitting him to take a sip of you.

He stares at you silently for a moment.

"Uh... would it hurt...?" you ask.

He drops his tone into a serious, concerned voice.

"Yeah... it would hurt quite a bit..." he informs you, "And it takes a while for the mark to heal... but if you're o-okay with... me having just a taste..."

"I am..." you say, "Mmm... weird question, but is it possible for you to drink all my blood in one go?" you suddenly ask, curious.

He chuckles a little, "Um, considering there's like... about five liters of blood in your body... no, I couldn't drink it all in one go." he lightens the darkening atmosphere with a joke, "It'd give me a major tummy ache."

"So... how much would you drink from me right now, to replenish yourself?" you inquire further, pawing closer to him.

He gulps, enticed by your scent.

"Probably a glass' worth...? That's typical." he looks away, too shy to say more. The thought of drinking a glass of your blood felt like asking for too much. "More than a glass would just be greedy..."

"Would it get messy and ugly?"

"Nah... I pride myself on being a clean eater." he winks, endeared by your giggly reactions to his subtle flirting.

It's bizarre to Armin; he expected you to be repulsed by his vampirism. But you're not. You're still flirting as hard as you did before he told you tonight.

"Armin... drink from me." you say seriously, seeing how he was holding his hands behind his back so tight when really he just needed to give into his raw desire.

"Uh—" he gulps as if his mouth is watering, "Are you sure you know what you're offering me?"

"Yes." you say more serious than ever. "Drink me."

Did you intend for that last part to sound so seductive? He can't tell.

He looks at you with eyes blown open, and bats his lashes in disbelief.

Then a a few moments later... he's pinning you to the bed and slotting his slender leg between your thighs.

His lips graze your neck, he kisses it... licks it... takes his time with it. You ask a bit more, breath staggering at his feverish licking.

"Do you always lick this much?"

"Mhm..."

"Why?"

"It's um... like a taste test..."

You feel your cheeks and chest warm up. "Oh... I see."

It's a minute later and he's sloppily making out with the area he intends to bite and drink from, while you happily allow him and run your fingers through his tawny blond hair.

"A–angel... your neck is so..." he swallows his drool, "so pretty... I'll be as gentle as p-possible... promise..."

"You don't have to be..."

"... really?" he asks breathlessly.

"Mhm."

He anyways encourages you to hold his hand and squeeze it if it's too much pain. "I'll stop if you tell me to... I have good discipline, I swear."

When his fangs fully come out, he slowly grazes their sharp point across your skin and gives testing pokes across the sweet curve of your neck. He exposes your neck more, pinning your shoulder with his hand.

One small gasp escapes you as he sinks just a tiny bit of his fangs in. He's trying his best to make it a smooth and clean incision. He's good and disciplined, he reminds himself, he can't just tear into you like you're nothing but a blood filled sac.

"Ah...!" you hiss in pain. It hurts way more than you anticipated, two sharp fangs pricking into your skin.

The way he sucks your blood out feels... sensual. Romantic. Like it's intimate... because it is. How many vampires does he know of that suck necks? It's the most erotic place to suck. It's an unspoken rule in his world to avoid the neck... because it's such an erogenous zone. Usually only lovers poke their fangs there...

Simply said? Armin sucked blood from your neck just to slyly turn you on. Because he had the hots for you. The cute human who wormed into his sexual fantasies.

"Mmm!" you squeal softly for him.

"Mmm..." he groans back, sinking his fangs as deep as they can go, spiraling into pleasure as his lips press flesh against your skin and squish flat.

He's quietly patting himself on the back for not losing control even though the taste of your blood made him dizzy.

He inhales deeply to stabilize himself. Then he checks on you, caring eyes peering into your soul.

"Are you okay?" he asks, voice deep and low.

"Y-yeah..." you nod.

"It stings a bit, right?" he asks with a slight glint of sadism in his eyes.

You nod, "Not too much..."

He smiles at you, fangs cutely poking udner his upper lip and peaking out a bit.

"Good... don't wanna hurt my sweet Y/n."

Oops... did he just get a little possessive? Mhm yeah he did. And you don't realize it, but he made sure is fangs sunk deep enough to leave a longlasting territorial mark... he had to let the world know you were claimed as his little human possession.

"Min... you okay? You zoned out." you laugh.

An hour has passed. He cleaned up all the blood and now laid snuggling with you in bed. For the first time, he was spooning you; a small show of dominance that he never showed before biting you up.

"Yeah... just a bit dazed."

"In a bad way?" you ask.

"No. I just get dazed after drinking sweet wine." he says.

"Hm...? Is that so? Dazed and dizzy 'cause of me?"

He smirked, eyes admiring your bite marks in the dim moonlight. He thumbs the skin around them.

  Ooh tough one. I guess right now, in order of favorite to least favorite, I’d have to go Sodapop, Two-Bit, Steve, Johnny, Ponyboy, Dally, and then finally Darry. But it’s pretty close, and the order changes day by day honestly- I like all of them a lot, y’know? I guess the only one I don’t think about too often is Darry. I still like him and think he’s a really well-written character- I just don’t have a lotta original thoughts about him, is all, whereas I do about all the others. 

5. What are your fave ships?

  In a truly shocking turn of events, I, a frequent draw-er and writer of Stevepop, am going to say Stevepop. I dunno, something about them just makes me happy. Reminds me of like…daydreams I had when I was twelve and crushing on my best friend, and trying to get her attention by doing stupid things and whatever…god I don’t really know how to explain why I like it. Before this fandom I didn’t usually ship things, to be honest. But I guess when I did it’d be stuff like Jesslake in Infinity Train, where it’s the sorta thing that can be seen as platonic or romantic. I reckon Stevepop scratches a similar itch in my brain lol

  But I also really like Marcia x Two-Bit, which I haven’t really talked about here much- They had good chemistry, y’know? I oughta draw something about them sometime

  And then finally there’s my DIY crack-ish ship Soda x Steve x Evie. I like them! It’s all the things I like about Stevepop, plus there’s a cool girl in the mix! I love cool girls! More folks should think about them i think

  I do like other ships okay too- like the Tarry crowd has dragged me in, and sometimes the Jally crowd does too, along with Purly and occasionally Johnnyboy. I’m not an active participant, but when I come across it, I sorta mentally nod and say “nice”, you dig? They’re like…my ship-in-laws. Or like…milk duds and hershey bars- candy I still enjoy, but reach for only after I’m out of milky ways and twizzlers.

7. What are your fave non-romantic relationships? (This can be close friends, familial, enemies or even just acquaintances)

  Two-Bit and Pony! I like them a lot. Their interactions in the book were some of my favorite parts. That line when Two-Bit was worried about Ponyboy using that broken bottle on the Socs…ugh that part was great. I remember reading it for the first time and just sitting there thinking about how much I liked that detail.

  Then on the opposite side of the coin, Steve and Pony lol. I LOVE how Pony doesn’t initially like Dally or Steve, and yet Dally’s chill with Pony…but with Steve the disdain is mutual. Jk I don’t think Steve really hates Pony- but he definitely thinks Pony’s kinda annoying. I like the idea of him watching out for Pony anyways though, like at school especially now that Soda’s not going.

14. Tell us five of your headcanons you basically see as canon

Sodapop has ADHD and maybe (?) dyslexia, but it’s the 60s so he won’t find out till he’s well into adulthood

Marcia gave Two-Bit her real number, and was disappointed when he didn’t call it. I like to imagine they end up remeeting at some point and going out together- even if that’s kinda unrealistic lol

Steve hated Dally when he first rolled into town, because Dally was everything he really wanted to be- tough, cool, and street-smart. And he was also scared of losing Soda, who thought Dally rocked- because Dally’s from New York and rides in rodeos! Eventually they became buddies though when Dally gave Steve a compliment or something. Not even a particularly good one- something like “Hey you ain’t bad at fighting”- just barely enough for Steve to feel like Dally’s earned a little bit of his loyalty. Might write fic/make a comic for this- it’s kinda niche but I think the idea is funny

Steve and Soda secretly listen to the Beach Boys at the DX. They can’t tell anyone because it’s not tuff to like a dumb California band. And Ponyboy would like the Beatles if he listened to them, but he doesn’t, so he won’t realize that until years after Beatlemania has died down

Steve is not just a Ponyboy hater but also a horses-in-general hater. He thinks horses are scary and unpredictable and that cars were invented for a reason. He was secretly relieved when Mr. Curtis stopped Soda from riding rodeos, because seeing Soda on a crazy horse gave him mad anxiety. Pretended he was sad though for Soda’s sake

For some reason, he can't get the rest of the words out.

“We were on a date. Yes.”

Buck's smiling, and Eddie wants to hug him for how happy he looks about the whole thing, only a little bit more than he wants to grab his friend's face in both hands and irrationally scream what is happening to us? until his voice is hoarse.

Whatever an out of body experience feels like, Eddie reckons it might be something akin to this. And he knows how dramatic he's being, he does, but he can't seem to stop—even if he is at a complete loss as to why.

“Okay.”

Eddie's then nodding, only he doesn't really know what he's nodding at.

Buck asks, “Is that weird?”

At once, he insists, “No. Absolutely not,” even though he feels it is, for some reason, weird. Not because being queer is weird, because no, fuck no, of course it fucking isn't. Maybe it's just because...

Because?

Why, exactly, Eddie has no clue.

He feels so, so lost.

The forest is a deep dark place, something hiding behind his ribcage mumbles before scuttling off to bury itself some place even further inside of Eddie's gunshot chest.

Is it Tommy, specifically, he wonders, because he's Eddie's new sparring pal and maybe now he won't be? He digs for a reason as to why that would bother him, but comes up empty handed.

And Tommy, he seems like a good guy.

Which is why Eddie is fairly perturbed when he pictures Tommy's face and it makes him wish he had the power of materialisation, to get the LAFD air support pilot to appear, here and now in Buck's kitchen, so he can sock the fucker in the stupid chiseled jaw with his best right hook, right in front of Buck.

Jesus, what the hell is wrong with him?

WEEKEND WIP

from my current derek pov sterek wip with the working title of 'RED RAG TO A WOLF'

He knew it was there the moment the sliding door to his apartment clicked shut; the moment everybody left. The pack hadn't even made it down the old service elevator when Derek sensed it, scenting the spicy-sweetness that clung to the cool air, stubborn as a fever—and far too strong considering the loft's now-empty status.

Granted, he didn't know exactly what ‘it’ was yet, only that something of the kid's had been left behind.

He spotted it as soon as he turned around.

Derek breathed in, deeply, and anger flared brightly in his gut. He was fuming at just how damn happy that warming scent made him, and how it seemed like he now had his very own aromatic keepsake just to fucking prove it.

This was bad.

Dangerous.

Rooted to the spot, Derek cautiously eyed the innocuous folds of red spilling over the top of those stupid pillows Stiles had talked him into buying, his teeth and fists clenching (along with his heart).

They'd bumped into each other a while back—quite literally—in Bed Bath & Beyond when Stiles had turned a corner wearing those stupid lime-green headphones, and slammed right into Derek.

There'd been an excessively loud exclamation of, “What the shit?” and then, “Derek?!” as Stiles removed the headphones and nestled them snugly around the base of his long, pale neck, Bigmouth Strikes Again by The Smiths still appropriately blasting through them.

Stilinski had then cracked up and whooped like a hyena for almost a full minute straight, apparently at the mere notion of Derek's presence in the store.

“You? In a place like this? But Der, you're like, a werewolf, dude! A creature of the night!” he's said, and had punctuated the assessment by curling his bendy body into a ridiculous monster-esque mime, crossing his wide eyes and letting his tongue loll out of the side of his mouth as he’d gargled his own spit in some sort of supposed gnarly roar.

Just as Derek had been considering how Stiles sounded a bit like a traumatised washing machine, the kid had burst into yet more fits of mocking laughter, doubling over this time while wiping his mouth with the back of one hand and clutching at his side with the other.

What was so hilarious about someone needing to buy a toilet roll holder was honestly still a complete fucking mystery to Derek, but whatever.

At the time, he'd wanted to howl and snap his jaws at the kid for his sass. But Derek's general rule of thumb these days was to try his level best to not get so uptight about the more inane concepts that weaved in and out of Stiles Stilinski's baffling brain on a millisecond-to-millisecond basis, nor to give him any fuel for his ever-burning Sourwolf fire. So he'd nonchalantly raised an eyebrow and given back as good as he got by saying, “Which means what, exactly? That I'm only supposed to shop at PetSmart at three AM for my monthly supply of rabbit flavoured kibble?” and told himself not to dwell on it.

Then instead of doing the decent thing and leaving Derek the hell alone to get on with his Saturday afternoon, Stiles had proceeded to follow him around the store because the Beacon Hills Friendly-Yet-Hyperactive Neighbourhood Sheriff's Kid was just kind of excessively infuriating like that.

Stiles had disappeared for a moment, then reappeared and proceeded to thrust a shopping cart towards Derek, insisting Derek needed it for the random shit he’d started selecting from the various displays and unceremoniously dumping into the wire basket on wheels; random shit he was also insisting Derek needed. Derek proceeded to remove all unnecessary items right after Stiles dropped each of them in, the kid either not caring enough to challenge him on it or simply none the wiser amid his animated spiel about someone named, “Marie frickin Kondo, man!”

Apart from the pillows.

Apparently, Derek didn't hate the super-soft (if stupidly named) ‘Wolf-Skin’ material covering the particular pillows Stiles had picked out for him when the puzzling human had gasped and crowed, “Oh my God, Derek, can you believe they're named Wolf-Skin? They are totally perfect for you! And even more importantly: They spark joy, dude!”

Whatever the fuck that meant.

Ooh would love to hear your thoughts on Down Bad after hearing it live!

ok so I first want to caveat that I don't think this was necessarily the intention of the song. (But maybe wasn't not the intention lmao.) And it's not just like, the live of it all, I don't know. But I think seeing the performance of it in the middle of the set -- even though the set is clearly mainly about one story -- taken with the rest of it made me consider it in other ways.

(I know that made no sense 😂)

What I'm trying to say is: yes, I accept that it's mostly about the, er, microwave relationship. I 100% understand that intellectually and textually.

But listening to it in the show, absorbing it that way, it also made me realize how many parallels there are to the oven relationship, too. It's such a similar situation, just over a longer period of time.

Meeting Joe and following him into his world in London did pull her out of the life she'd been leading back in the US, and London became a respite from everything she'd been experiencing in NY/LA. (Like another planet, just for the two of them.) And through the life they built together she saw a whole new future for herself with plans on the horizon (the world was bigger than her/them), and seemed to have every indication that it was real, until the rug was pulled out from under her in some way (e.g. hoax, YLM, SLL). So the "fuck it if I can't have us" is also relevant, because that was the life they had been crafting at one point, and she's mad that it's gone up in smoke.

And even the "down bad crying at the gym" part kind of gave me a sad chuckle because it seemed like the death throes of the relationship were happening just as she was ramping up training for Eras.

So I guess my point is that while I objectively know that the song is about Matty and the love bombing and ghosting, it's another "all breakups are the same" situation because she did create this whole other world in her head for herself and Joe where she deluded herself into thinking they could work, only for him to figuratively leave her until she actually left him. Which is just the longer, and arguably more painful, way of how she deluded herself into believing Matty was the right escape hatch to the life she wanted.

Or, it may be a case where the song is more swirly than it's given credit for. And/or that the microwave happened because it was a copycat of the life she'd shared with the oven. (lol this is getting weird)

Idk, Down Bad just made me surprisingly reflective/emotional on the first night and I'm not sure why, except that like most songs on TTPD it's just SO sad if you think about it with any kind of depth.

Hobie placed himself beside you, although his form swiveled around pillars and did random spins while walking. You all popped in in every room, explaining some ground rules with the help of Lyla appearing out of nowhere from time to time.

"Well.. so far they're not posing a threat to the multiverse.." Lyla hovers over Miles's watch for a second, with her hands to her hips. He shooed her away, Pav snickering a little before quickly turning his head away when Miles almost snaps his neck to look at him disapprovingly.

"This 'ere is the trainin ground." Hobie motions to the vast spaced room, consoles, and sectioned parts of it with different spider people training in them. "Personally, m' thinkin bashing some pigs heads in would cut you some better experience, you get me?" He rants.

"How about fighting fellow spiders? You could get better experience if you're fighting a version of yourself with the same skill set as you." You suggested, fingers fiddling behind your back. Hobie you found a tad intimidating but wow was his eyes a great shade of brown. Wait, what?

"We've tried that." Gwen shrugs, a small smile on her lips that exposed the gap between her teeth. "Hm.." You blinked a few times, gears turning in your head and boredom threatening to taunt you soon.

"What about with me, then? I'm not a spider person." You smiled, maybe cheekily. "Ooh! Great idea!" Pav sings his sentence a little. The other three all agreed in their own ways. You all move down to one of the vacant spots. A massive, caged in, field of gridded floors and walls. Random items scattered around with different heights of platforms as well.

"Alright, who you wanna fight first, y/n?" Miles asks the question, hopping in place and trying to hype himself up.

"Ooh! Me, me!" Pav waves his hand in the air, eager to bounce around. The four of them wait for an answer as you stretch your arms.

"I thought we could do four against one." You slipped in casually, eyes reflecting the orange and blue lights in the room. The three exchange glances, thinking you'd have to be joking. Hobie only smirked, knowing you're completely serious.

started watching st. denis medical 'cause my sister, who's a doctor, wanted to see it. I love mockumentary-style sitcoms so I already know I'm going to tune in to this one and it's pretty funny but what makes it funnier is watching with my sister.

she keeps pausing to look at the stethoscopes and trying to discuss with me—someone who does not understand a single thing about littmann stethoscopes—the pros and cons of buying the cardio iv over the classic (?) ones. she's literally window shopping for stethoscopes and ooh-ing and aah-ing over the different color combos and how they would look compared to the hospital lighting and the different colored scrubs 😭. she's legit geeking out hahaha. (she's heavily leaning towards the cardio iv in all black or maybe the plum colored one, depending on her scrubs. she's still undecided.)

she screamed when the trauma surgeon broke the sterilized field (?) in that one scene. 😂 apparently, you're not supposed to let your hands drop below the waist/hip level when you're scrubbed in? she kept waiting for the nurse to scold the doctor and have him re-scrub, she was so convinced that that was going to be one of the jokes lol.

also, as a non-american, is it normal for triage nurses not to take your vitals when you go to the ER? they showed the patients just describing their symptoms without someone taking their vitals at the counter. it's probably just an oversight on the part of the writers, but it's plausible enough from what I hear about the state of the american healthcare system that I feel compelled to ask. 🥲
