I keep seeing people saying Zeus was OOC for striking Athena at the end of God Games and that he was mad at Odysseus

Guys, did we listen to the same song?

Athena's last argument to won the game was literally saying in a magic colleseum full of every single greek magical creature

"Yeah, Zeus is a cheater and a fuckboy, unlike Odysseus"

Athena literally won by insulting Zeus in front of everyone's faces and making Hera, the Goddess of Marriage and very much known wife of Zeus, agree with that.

Zeus was not pissed at Odysseus, he was very much pissed at Athena for using a mortal to compare him (and it goes somehow along the original story, in which Zeus complains about the humans being pissed at the gods for their fates when the gods are basically just "doing their jobs")

Some Athena thoughts and headcanons for the ‘Diomedes goes to Ithaca AU’

Headcanon that Athena moves around completely quietly (like how owls hunt). So, Telemachus meeting Athena for the first time he gets the shit scared out of him. Diomedes by now knows the tells of Athena being here (and he has the magic eyes) so he’s the one basically warning Telemachus if Athena is in proximity

Telemachus: are you even listening???

Diomedes staring intently at the dodgy looking owl (Athena) in the tree: …yeah

Athena is very much still cool aunt. But I wanna characterise her as a little more mischievous (which could be interpreted as cunning ig) than she probably is in the original mythos. She keeps a close eye on both Telemachus and Diomedes. Most specifically Telemachus! While she cannot reveal to him that Odysseus is alive directly (she cannot incur the wrath of her uncle just yet), she does help him in starting his little Telemachy. It helps boosts his confidence and helps reassure him that maybe his father is alive. HOWEVER, the sudden disappearance of Telemachus causes the stress meters of Diomedes and Penelope to exponentially rise. And Athena finds this a little funny, so she still withholds the information from them.

Telemachus: Athena… sometimes I wonder if father is dead :(

Athena in disguise clenching her fists to try not reveal anything: … he’s too stubborn to die, have a little more faith in him

Athena:

Athena: Hey, I have a great idea if you’re worried about your dad

Penelope stressed out of her mind: WHERE IS HE???

Athena is keeping this family very blessed. She is the patron goddess of both Odysseus and Diomedes, and I like to imagine maybe in a more subtle way to Penelope too (I mean… she’s smart, beautiful, AND she can weave???). She’s much closer to Telemachus in this AU than in the original Odyssey, but not like in the way of EPIC?? She keeps her distance from him nonetheless bcs she’s a god and whatnot, but him being close with Diomedes, I imagine Athena has more of an excuse to be around Telemachus growing up.

Telemachus: so.. you knew my father and Diomedes growing up?

You were just a normal human one day you were on a cliff looking up at the clouds you heard people talking but didn't care but you got up and looked over to see Athena,Aphrodite,Apollo,Ares,Hermes,Hera,Zeus you weren't sure what they were doing but they all stopped and looked at you Aphrodite gasped and ran over to you and felt your hair then said "your hair it's soft and pretty" you just looked at her confused amd said "thanks?" Aphrodite then looked at Ares and said "can we keep her?" You looked at Aphrodite and said "I am not a pet just because I am a human and not a god" you crossed your arms and Aphrodite said "Hmph didn't want you anyways" and she went to Ares Hermes giggled then flew over to you and gave a small poke and said "what's your name little one?" You sighed then said "y/n that's my name and I'm guessing you are Hermes" you pointed at Aphrodite and said "you are Aphrodite" then you pointed at Ares and said "you are Ares" you pointed at Athena and said "you are Athena" you pointed at Apollo and said "you are Apollo" them you pointed at Hera and said "you are Hera their mother" then you pointed at Zeus and said "you are Zeus their father" you crossed your arms but you noticed that Apollo was just looking at you like he was in love with you a god? in love with you? a human no can't be someone else came over it was your finance he went over to you and he grabbed your wrist and said "come on y/n it's time to go you are gonna be late for our wedding" Apollo seems upset you moved your arm and said "no I don't even want to marry you especially to a cheater" you then moved your arm and bit his arm and stepped on his foot he yelled in pain and threw you off of the cliff Apollo ran and grabbed onto your hand and said "got you" Hermes then said "rude boy you have there y/n" Apollo pulled you back up on the cliff amd held onto you so you didn't fall your fiance then said "find whatever y/n I'll go marry someone better someone that is a goddess you are no goddess good luck finding someone to love you" and walked off Hera looked pissed at the guy and well you are alone again your mom has been setting you up with guys trying to get you to marry someone but they all are so pissy with you and leave you and your mom knows no god would want to marry you not because she doesn't believe in you she does but because gods are gods and you are just a human Apollo helped you up you said "thanks- but I should go now I gotta get back to my mom" you walked off and told your mom about what happened she started to lose hope until
