The Comm-Everstone is an Everstone, small enough to act as the 'gem' of a choker, and enchanted by Laplace to duplicate the effects of a sci-fi Translator. The stone translates Lily's buizel-chitter Poke-Speech and emits an ethereal voice that repeats her words in Human Speech. Whichever voice the listener best understands is brought to the forefront of their perception, preventing any 'cross-talk' from obscuring her words. Notably, it is still quite obvious to the listener that these words are being translated, and not simply Imparting Understanding. (Though, it being magic may be a little unsettling, still.)

(This is all OOC, obviously)

What's the premise of this blog? The idea is simple: Danganronpa's Chihiro Fujisaki (aka the Ultimate Programmer, aka Precious Hacker Child Who Has Never Done Anything Wrong) has moved to the United States and by a stroke of bad luck has ended up as the night guard for the newest Fazbear storefront, "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and Playplace", located in Magna, Utah. What starts as the typical FNAF formula soon starts to escalate as more and more animatronics arrive to make Chihiro's job even more of a living hell.

When does this take place, in reference to canon? Chronologically, this story takes place as it is being posted, in real time (which as of this post is late 2024). This fits neatly with the original FNAF series canon timeline, to an extent. FNAF 1-4 and Sister Location all happened as they did in canon. FNAF 6, however, has NOT happened. It's theorized that FNAF 6 took place in late 2023/early 2024 in canon, so the events of this blog can essentially be viewed as taking that game's place in terms of its role in the overarching FNAF plot. Post-Pizzeria Simulator stuff like Security Breach is currently up in the air, I include elements from it and the movie as I so desire. As for the Danganronpa side of things, this Chihiro is currently 24 years old. He and most of the rest of Class 78 graduated from Hope's Peak Academy 5-6 years ago (I haven't yet figured out the exact math). There was no Tragedy, and none of the mainline series games occurred like they did in canon, but the characters all still exist and SOMETHING happened the year of Class 78's graduation that caused the school to close down permanently, with massive negative repercussions for the Main Course Students, including Chihiro. V3 characters are in the same boat as post-FNAF 6 stuff, I include it however I want.

Is this an askblog? How does the roleplaying in this blog work? I have no idea if this counts as an askblog, since the focus is on Chihiro's overarching story as he copes with his circumstances. But by all means keep asking Chihiro questions, they help me flesh out the story and worldbuilding more! Plus they're a great motivator! Bring on all the questions! The vast majority of asks will be responded to in-character as Chihiro. This includes stuff from other roleplay blogs, even if directly contradicts the stuff in this particular story. Chihiro does not necessarily believe anyone when they say they're from a different universe or whatever the framing device is, but he's too polite to not go along with it, if that makes sense. The guy is too nice for his own good, and chalks up most of the weirdness to "tumblr being tumblr" and doesn't ask questions (So he's not really breaking the fourth wall). And if your asks are roleplaying in ways that go along with this blog's canon, then I'll happily try to integrate them into the story as best as I can. (The tags are usually OOC though) While I'm going to TRY to have everything answered in-character, there are exceptions. If an ask tries to break the fourth wall and talk about the Danganronpa or FNAF video game serieses (or this blog's own fictional nature) they'll most likely go unanswered or be answered OOC. And if you're going to ask for donations or petition signatures or advertising, this ain't the place. Such asks will be deleted on sight. This is a roleplay blog only. Oh, and if you're being deliberately offensive or discriminatory in any way, it should go without saying that such behavior is NOT WELCOME HERE and will lead to being blocked IMMEDIATELY.

What other characters aside from Chihiro will appear? Due to the way the backstory has been set up, most of the other DR characters are largely restricted to Chihiro's text messages with them and comments in past-tense. Yes I'm aware that their texts should probably be in Japanese, but I don't trust Google Translate so like. Maybe they're all just trying to be supportive of Chihiro or something? The FNAF side obviously is getting considerably more representation. Vanessa is already present as Chihiro's boss, and most of the animatronics aside from the three ones original to this specific storefront are the same as from canon (Cody, Harper, and Dessa were created to spice things up a bit, but they're essentially just palette swaps of Foxy, Bonnie, and Chica respectively). Quite a few familiar faces are gonna be showing up as Chihiro's life gradually becomes less FNAF 6 and more Ultimate Custom Night. As for whether our favorite scooped Night Guard will also make an appearance... wait and see! Other major characters include OCs Kellen and Marta, the two Day Shift Security Guards for the place, who were created largely so that Chihiro could have a couple of coworkers to interact with, without having to come up with some more bizarrely improbable cameos. They're named after Glamrock Freddy's and Gregory's VAs respectively from Security Breach.

What's this blog's take on Chihiro's gender? I'm aware of how controversial this subject is, and am trying to not have it affect this blog too much. But considering how much of Chihiro's character revolves around his gender identity in official DR material it's kind of unavoidable, so let's just get this out of the way: this blog's version of Chihiro is a cis male and uses he/him pronouns. If you have different headcanons about the character and their gender identity then that's completely fine and valid (especially considering how messy the writing in the original games is when it comes to this subject) but this was the interpretation I felt best aligned with canon Chihiro as written. That being said, if you want to refer to Chihiro with other pronouns in your asks or comments then that's totally fine, the most you'll get from this blog is a polite in-character correction, if even that. As far as Chihiro's concerned, dealing with murderous animatronics is a much greater concern than being misgendered on the internet. Ultimately this blog's purpose is to have fun, not make a statement. (Incidentally, while we're on the subject, this blog's version of Mangle uses ALL the pronouns. Mangle stole all the pronouns and left none for Chihiro. How dare.)

Shouldn't Chihiro have logically died by now? Night Guards in FNAF usually don't last this long. Yeah, probably, but if that were to happen the story would just end sooooo that's probably not gonna happen. Either some of Makoto's Plot Armor Luck rubbed off on him, or Chihiro looks just enough like a minor that the animatronics are going slightly easier on him. IDK really. Just repeat the MST3K Mantra to yourself if you have to.

What's with the "all lowercase letters" thing going on in most of the posts? Mostly it's just a way to add flavor? It kind of felt right for Chihiro. Not only does it sort of reflect his timid nature, but it also makes a small amount of sense to me that a native Japanese speaker could type English this way. Japanese doesn't have uppercase and lowercase, so I feel like there's a logic to Chihiro sticking to only lowercase. (Obviously this doesn't mean native Japanese speakers can't use normal English capitalization. This Chihiro is obviously perfectly fluent in English and you'll see him using proper capitalization from time to time, especially when he's texting his boss and trying to seem professional. Again, this is mostly just a way to add some characterization to the medium of the blog.)

Any Trigger/Content Warnings? It's FNAF and Danganronpa, so if you're familiar with those then you know what to expect. Though since the story is contingent on Chihiro's survival, ironically all the blood and guts and murder is probably going to be a lot less prevalent than in the actual stories. Still got plenty of potential nightmare fuel, though! Additionally there could be a chance of religious themes since (like the Silver Eyes novels and FNAF 6) this story takes place in Utah and Latter-Day Saints infest that state like moles infest my parents' backyard lawn. Since part of this blog is Chihiro comparing and contrasting his former and current places of residence they're bound to come up once in a while. But that shouldn't be very often, especially since this Chihiro doesn't really care that much about religion.

How often does this blog update? Whenever. I'm trying to keep the posts coming pretty regularly to continue the idea that Chihiro is running this blog in real time, but I have a life, sooooooo...

Hi, Tumblr! You've stumbled onto a roleplay blog for the webcomic Homestuck. This is a small personal project - I need to be incentivized to take some notes for a fanventure somewhere, basically. It will eventually look like something of a cross between serialized epistolary novel, scrapbook, worldbuilding exercise and fever dream diary. There is a story and a tagging system to facilitate it, although it will be punctuated by (diegetically sort of plot-relevant, honestly just me rping) digressions into other worlds.

Why does everyone always recommend Twist and Shout for destiel? Like what happened in fandom at that time to make it so popular that it's now a staple? I haven't read it. I refuse. I know there is major character death and people complain it is OOC so I'm just wondering why do people love it so much? I have read so many long fics written by immensely talented writers in this fandom that end hopefully and tackle difficult subject matter while maintaining character voices that it seems a shame that T&S is always recommended

So, I also haven’t read it - I don’t do MCD, no matter how highly recommended a fic comes. However, here’s what I’d say in answer to this question.

Twist and Shout came out, it was during a period when the fandom was huge, and exploding. Season 8 was something of a Destiel renaissance (it’s when I started shipping it, for example) and it’s not a coincidence that a lot of the best known fic came out in 2012 and 2013 (for reference, T&S started posting on October 15th, 2012, according to AO3). I wasn’t active on AO3 Destiel fandom at that time (I started reading fic on FF.net in early 2013) nor was I active on Tumblr or in fandom circles where shipping was a big Thing, so I don’t know what the general fandom reaction to it was at the time, but presumably it met with a fair degree of popularity. People liked it. People recced it. I have no idea if it had the MCD tag at that time, but presumably it did. People read it knowing that. And presumably, some people didn’t like it, and some people didn’t rec it, but like any other fic it went through a process of developing popularity.

Why did it get to be first?

In my honest opinion?

Utterly random chance. If you look at ANY developing fandom, some of the trends are in fact totally random, at least to begin with. Once the avalanche starts, though, it’s self-perpetuating.

Think about it. You’re in a brand new fandom. You don’t know anyone. You haven’t read anything. You’re desperate to read something. What do you do? You go to AO3, find the ship you want to read, and you sort by most hits, or most kudos, or most comments, and decide - I’m gonna start by reading these. You see the first fic...okay, MCD, a little off putting...but it’s got SO MANY HITS and SO MANY KUDOS...just take the chance!

So, you (my hypothetical fan) read this fic. One of two things happen - you either love it or you hate it. If you hate it, you may not even finish it, but regardless, you’ve added to the stats - your views count, and maybe you liked the early chapters and kudosed, or maybe you remember everything you’ve heard about authors liking comments on early chapters of fully posted works, and you commented. So those stats have gone up, even if someone HATED it. And on the second, you love it - and you come out gushing! You kudos! If you’re super enthusiastic maybe you log out and give it a second guest kudos! And, as you start getting into the fandom and meeting people, you want to spread this love - you tell your friends - hey, I just read this great fic, and yeah, it’s MCD, but just give it a chance!

And so it begins again - if you tell four people, and they read it, and two hate it, and two love it, and those two tell four people, and two hate it, and two love it, and it just cascades.

Why is Twist and Shout the most popular fic in this fandom? Because Twist and Shout is the most popular fic in this fandom. Yes, it’s a tautology, but it’s entirely self-perpetuating. People read it because it’s listed first. People read it because they like it, and re-read it and re-read, and re-read it, to get that high. People hate read it. People read it just to find out what the big deal is. In a fandom with coming up on 100,000 posted stories, Twist and Shout has almost twice as many kudos as the fic in second (by the, in my personal opinion, far more deserving Annie D, though it’s also not their best work in my opinion, and the reasons it’s up there are likely the same), and almost four times as many hits. By any measure on AO3 surveys, it’s number one when people sort, and lots of people will read it simply out of curiosity.

That kind of popularity is self-perpetuating. And of course lots of people love T&S - it has 1.2 million hits, and almost 35000 kudos. Even if we go extremely conservative and say, 35,000 people have read T&S, that’s simply a shit ton of people, and if even only 10% loved it, that’d still be 3500 people gushing about that single fic. I’ve been writing for 5 years and I don’t have a single fic with even 3500 kudos, and I’m considered a relatively successful writer in this huge fandom.

But here’s, to me, the most important thing - I truly believe any fic can be a Twist and Shout. It’s a confluence of events that makes a fic such a juggernaut, and the vast majority are simply luck. Random drift means one fic is gonna end up on the top of the heap - and once a fic is there, reading tendencies, confirmation bias, and exposure guarantee it’ll STAY on the top of the heap.

I started the Destiel Favs Survey because I felt that the “top 20″ fics by hits in the Destiel fandom didn’t reflect the fics people actually like. I got curious, so I made a list.

In February 21st, 2017, the top 20 fics on AO3 by kudos were:

In 4 full years, only three works managed to break into the top 20, even though - based on my original data, which you can view here - most of these works have nearly double in the number of kudos they’ve had in that amount of time. Further, the most recently written fic on EITHER of these lists is from 2015 - A Turn of the Earth and Professional Couple Only are from 2015 - and all the rest is older.

These fics aren’t the top 20 because they’re better, and if there was even an ounce of objectivity in this list, it would have actually shown any change in 4 years instead of looking virtually identical. 

Twist and Shout, and the other “most popular” and “most recommended” works in the Destiel fandom have that distinction because they’re the most read, so more people read them, so they’re the most read, so more people read them, so they’re the most read, so...ad infinitum.

And that’s not a judgement call against them! There are fics I LOVE on that top twenty list. But, dear anon, you ask me why I think Twist and Shout is the most popular?

All of this is why. Twist and Shout is the most popular because popularity in fic culture is the only perpetual motion machine in the universe. It is self-perpetuating, and as a result, Twist and Shout will always be the most popular fic in this fandom.

And that’s why I do the faves list - because the tops on AO3 tell us abso-fraggin’-lutely nothing, and I thought we needed a list that actually meant something for what fics people active in the fandom truly love - which DOES include some of those top 20 fics by AO3 data, and includes lots and lots of others that are just as or more wonderful.

I know what incident you were referring to. I have already argued from my side about the conflict I and my friend had with two users (the OP has blocked me and my friend already), and I am strictly planning to ignore that, but since I am far calmer now, I guess my validity would be understood better so that I can answer without being in my peak of emotions. Also, to just boost me and tell myself that I wasn't as wrong as I was claimed to be so I can calm out.

Bear with me, I write in paragraphs lol. Sorry, but, it's because I want to sound justifiable.

HIJACKER

Okay, I can understand in what context I was labeled a hijacker. It was an old post of theirs two years ago, and untagged. But, I feel they forgot to consider that the post was still there in Tumblr without being archived or further replies being blocked or whatsoever.

Also, I was using Tumblr on mobile, so I had no idea when the post came. So, it's still valid from my side to have not known when this post came.

I hope you are a Beyblade stan and I bet otherwise you wouldn't have known me being called like that. I am an ardent shipper of Kane and Salima. I was using the search bars to see some of my old posts for them since I have posted a fair amount of content for them via my main blog (this one) and from my side blogs (fics, fan art, GIFs, etc.). But all of a sudden, the said post (where the incident happened) came in. I actually wanted to ignore that, but I got the feeling if they went factually wrong. I wanted to debunk it, but that doesn't mean if I want others to strictly believe it or to ship Salima and Kane.

If they really felt like I hijacked their post at that moment, they could have said that right away. However, they did say the post was old, but not everyone would consider it a hijack, at least most of them I know. It almost felt like they created this term hijack after this shit to ridicule me, irrespective of if they felt that then or not.

Most of the Tumblr users from anime fandoms do contradict opinions via reblogs, but that's not a crime or something. So I don't think it's valid to label me a hijacker for this.

HARASSER

I forever can never understand in what way I harassed them. It's awfully an extreme term. This is laughably gullible in my opinion, which makes opinion contradictions and obvious forms of harassment from various spaces I have [been exposed to/witnessed] look like disasters from hell.

As I said earlier, I felt their opinion was wrong. But, this is not to make anyone feel condescended or inferior. Just an opinion sharing. That is something anyone needn't take close to heart if they feel like being contradicted.

They think that Salima and Kane had their relationship dented down because of what happened in the battle tower incident. But, I just felt that that may not possible because Salima clearly understood Kane was not being himself and went to pursue him, so she might understand that. That's not something anyone may disagree with when that's what actually happened and it is a very valid assumption.

There wasn't a single instance where Salima seemed to have hated Kane or looked low on him or detested him (except when she tried to steal Cyber Drigger but still, they weren't arguing or whatever it is and she soon went by Kane's way). Or there wasn't a f--king moment where Salima seemed to have scolded Kane outside the tower after what all shite happened. She has considered Kane as someone precious to her. He has taught her how to be a beyblader, instead of just worrying about the outcome but just enjoying the battle.

So, I just felt they may be wrong. That's all.

This was all before I failed to consider their blog a roleplay one, and after they said they want to make Salima realistic. They said stuff might be OOC. I understood. Then, what would be my assumption then? Salima denting her relationship with Kane is what they may be referring to OOC because, she naturally wouldn't do that, as I specified for reasons above. Heck, they tagged it OOC Salima after all when reblogged from me for the first time. They have highlighted the OOCness far more than I did. If they know that's the truth, why are they getting offended when someone says it?

It's understandable in their case because she might write OOC stuff whereas I prefer sticking to canon for most of the time.

In what way was is this harassing or making me want them to ship Salima and Kane? What is really condescending here? First of all, I can understand for obvious reasons why some might not ship them. Or, it is not even necessary to ship Salima and Kane even if they are not on severe terms or didn't have their relationship dented.

Explaining a relationship between two people, even if you ship them needn't be taken in a shipping sense always while describing the dynamic in canon. It's up to people to take these reasons to ship them or not. Regardless of shipping them or not, or not being satisfied with their dynamic in canon, we can't deny how they viewed each other in series, even if we hate them as a ship or not.

But, there is no denial from my side that there was a mistake in the time and place of sharing opinions.

I accept it. I am just a young teenager and not as old as them who have been in the Tumblr fandom for nearly ten years. But, the way the user approached me biding a hi with exclamation and the tags sounded like they want me to share further opinions when I read their tags after the first reblog (#what's your opinion on Salima shipping?). How wouldn't I want to share an opinion on it? How does that make them not intend to make me share an opinion? How tough it is to tell "get off my post"? I honestly would appreciate it if they have told me that.

After all, this sounds like they and their friend have created their own deluded reasons or create reasons which I never even said. Actually, that's what they did, like me ranting for Kane and Salima having no fanart or me claiming them becoming canon?! What the f--k is this? Writing them canonically in fics is not equal to becoming canon. Fics aren't even canon.

I and another friend of mine contradicted an opinion from a JJK fandom, against Jennifer Lawrence. The user said right away to get off, and I appreciated it. It's great to tell right away.

This isn't something anybody would be crying or feel extremely offended about. Or this isn't some sort of cyberbullying or a crime. They can be irked for some time, tell me right away instead of dragging and creating an unintentional drama. This isn't a form of harassment.

See anon, I would always prefer being pretty well-versed with the content to an extent before stepping into fandoms (or at least for the characters I focus on), so I am not sure who would or wouldn't have known what happened in the series. I can't read the minds of others. I don't know if they have forgotten the incidents or not. I am saying this because their friend says that the user might have forgotten what has happened had not watched the series for a long time.

I am still ready to be on good terms with them and their friend. I am ready to have an open mind if they want to be friends with me. Unfortunately, I am blocked (not by their friend at least) so I am not sure if that may happen. I honestly don't want anyone to ever feel hurt by me. All of my trusted friends know me well and know how I am. Or, I know myself better.

There wasn't a single sign of me harassing them for shipping Salima with anybody else besides Kane. But that's what they are assuming. Anybody can ship Salima with Kai, Ray, Tyson, Max, Goki, Jim, Mystel, Tala, Garland, etc. I respect it, regardless of what I personally feel about each of Salima's ships. There isn't a single GIF set, fan art, or Fanfiction post for other Salima ships where I have said these. Their post sounded more like an opinionated post.

The user ships Kai and Salima. They both have touched and held each other while trying to get out of the tower, or they are aware of each other's existence for sure, and Kai has been protecting her. Whereas, I even ship Tala and Queen 😂 did they even speak a word to each other? It's not even confirmed if Tala and Queen are aware, at least if Tala is aware of her. So how wouldn't I understand Kai x Salima in this case? Seriously.

After this, I decided to contradict some common opinions with my own posts even if the people whom I contradict see that or not. No more reblogging and sharing opinions except when someone actually encourages it. I am a bit scared of it now.

this has a speedrun/summary version of impressions the first third of it because I’d already watched all of that before tumblr ate the post so I might miss stuff idk. and then after that it’s my typical sporadic livebloggy madness. this got SUPER long oops

We have a lot of motifs in this episode, including the bloodied shield, the use of the shield as essentially a giant blunt blade rather than a shield, the conflict between different people’s interpretations of what ‘fighting because one has to’ means.

Walker is running from himself at the beginning, but where does one run to when the war is in your head? Particularly poignant for me (because I know that in the comics he joins the army to emulate his deceased brother) is how deeply the loss of a brother-in-arms cuts, but even more so how much the thought that he’s disappointed Lamar hurts. I think that in some ways, Lamar may have been a part of John’s moral compass, and his sustained belief in him has always helped him. It’s a reversed parallel to Steve and Bucky, actually, and I could elaborate on that but it might turn into an essay.

John tries to walk away from the fight at first, partly because he has other priorities, and partly because I think he does genuinely recognize that Bucky and Sam are good people. Of course there’s also the layer that he thinks of them as the original Cap’s sidekicks and therefore as the new Cap shouldn’t fight them, but… anyway the fight sequence is interesting to watch because it does show John as fairly well matched with them despite the fact that MCU Bucky has the serum. Part of this might be their reluctance to kill him while John has given up the façade and is now willing to do that in order to further his own plans as long as he doesn’t get caught. He cannot lose the title he’s given or he’ll be lost, now that he doesn’t have his best friend.

“Don’t go down that road. Believe me, it doesn’t end well.” “I’m not like you.” The difference is that Bucky was brainwashed. Yes, he’s still ruthless even after he’s broken free of it, but he’s taking conscious steps to be better. And thus the determination behind the “Yeah we do.” The shield deserves better than being in John’s care.

The “why are you making me do this?” is obviously coming from a place of delusion but also speaks to how John’s personal motives are super unclear. Why did he take on the mantle of Captain America when it was established from the very beginning that he wasn’t completely comfortable with it? Was it, as he told Lamar, because he wanted a chance to be good? (In which case, obviously he’s having a breakdown about not achieving that?) Was it for his ego? Because he was commanded to? Having a John muse makes this a very interesting thing to explore.

Seeing Bucky’s arm get electrified and him knocking out because that’s directly tied to his neural implants was not any easier the second time around oof

“This isn’t you, John.” Further proof that Sam Wilson has more heart than legit anyone else, he’s still trying to believe that John is good.

I find it interesting that they have John remove the cowl in order to growl “I am Captain America.” It speaks to a rejection of what the old Cap was (though the cowl is the US Agent / updated Cap one) and his insistence that his version of Captain America is valid. (It’s not.)

Also because my literary obsessed reads way too much into tiny things that the show runners probably didn’t really care about as metaphors, I definitely saw the ripping of Sam’s wing as a reference to the restriction of freedoms by the US government lol just ignore me on that.

Bucky and Sam repeatedly saving each other’s asses is my jam. Also Sam using the power from the wing pack keeps reminding me from my observation back at the beginning that he’d do so well with full out repulsors. Tony totally would have set him up with that if MCU hadn’t killed him alas.

More of me finding parallels where there shouldn’t be any: they broke Walker’s left arm, just like they took away Bucky’s left.

I took a screenshot of this image when I watched it in the previous round, and it’s still going to haunt me. There’s something so tired and haunted and defeated here.

Bucky gives Sam the shield, because there’s nobody who deserves it more. The look on Sam’s face when he takes it and tries to clean the blood off of it (physically and symbolically of course) is heartbreaking. It’s a man who regrets his decision not to take it on originally but also now has to deal with the implications of both taking on that responsibility (in a country that doesn’t treat him fairly) and whether people will approve of anyone carrying the shield after John has fucked it up so badly.

A note that carries over from my first watch: people don’t usually refer to their enemies by first name. It’s done in comic books and movies with some frequency to remind people who is who, and in this case may also be a bit of humanization for Karli, a reminder that she is a sympathetic character despite the vicious way she does things sometimes. I also appreciate them reminding the audience that she’s competent and has a lot of support.

ALSO TORRES MY DARLING I’VE MISSED YOU. I wonder if Sam letting him keep the wings will actually develop into something (a la comics) or if they’re leaving that open ended. Also his smile is literal sunshine I’m not even joking about this, please give me all the Joaquín content thank you. Just look at him!!

I think by this point most viewers are fairly convinced that John Walker is Not A Good Man, but I think that his rant about always having done what he was told and done it well is purposeful and poignant here. His motives have always been to serve, but the matter of who he’s serving (or more importantly what - the military machine, the government that simply gives orders without thinking of the personal ramifications for those who carry them out) is put in contrast to Sam and Bucky, who are also veterans. I can’t help but draw parallels to the Nuremberg trials, people who did heinous things under orders and try to use that as an excuse for their innocence. It’s a reminder that a person doesn’t have to be visibly part of an evil group in order to do evil things. I won’t outline everything here but at least as far as the US Military goes, more info can be found at https://www.thebalancecareers.com/military-orders-3332819 about how and when it is defensible for people in the military to disobey orders.

You can hear John’s voice break during his rant, the conviction that he was doing what he was supposed to. He could have gotten away with more if he hadn’t been such a public figure, but an “other than honorable discharge” lmao what a diplomatic way to tell him how badly he fucked up xD

Also hey it’s Olivia. Most people forgot that John has a wife. (I’m glad she’s telling him to visit Lemar’s parents, they deserve that.) Also is this Valentina or is this a Skrull? Only time will tell.  (She’s probably not a Skrull, FATWS is too short for that, but on the other hand I’m not sure how I feel about the implications otherwise. Is she a SHIELD infiltrator? Is she manipulating him on SHIELD’s behalf? Did they steal the name and get rid of her backstory?)

The resignation on Zemo’s face during his encounter with Bucky (especially with a gun to his face) is unnerving. Zemo calling Bucky “James” made Natasha outright glare though. Her priorities are a little odd. But I’m glad Bucky didn’t kill him, I’m glad he’s not allowing him to be a victim of his conditioning. The Dora Milaje are taking him to the Raft… oh wait there might be Skrulls after all.

“If you ain’t bitter, you’re blind.” I feel that. I feel that hard. But I also understand the misplaced blame, the tendency for people who have been Through It seeing anyone outside their minority as their oppressor.

For someone who has dealt with the immensity of the trauma that Isaiah has, including the experimentation, the social isolation, the experience of being in the jail system for so long, it’s no surprise at all that he would be quick to assign blame. Add to that the risk of being killed for being part of an experiment that you didn’t agree to partake in early on, followed by extensive experimentation after? There are so many factors at play: violation of self, lack of agency, lack of safety… D: and the physical reminders of them are everywhere. look at the scarring D: D: D:

The range of emotion in this is so good, the acting is so good, I’m just overwhelmed with how honest this feels. 

“They erased me. My history. But they’ve been doing that for 500 years.” OOF

The crease in Sam’s brow when he’s told that no self-respecting black man would wanna be Captain America, there’s such righteous indignation there, but he has to temper it in the face of Isaiah’s grief. Over and over he proves himself capable of putting compassion first and foremost.

This sibling dynamic has been really nice to see. There’s tension, there’s individual struggles, there’s support (not always in the ways it needs to be, but they’re trying), but more obviously there’s a depth of love there. Seeing it is so rewarding.

LOOK AT THE WHOLE COMMUNITY SHOWING UP!! Oh man so this gets me, because I grew up in a neighborhood where we supported each other and threw block parties and everyone trooped into our backyard to play on the swingset that had been left behind by the previous owner. It wasn’t family, sure, but we took care of each other. In India, it was even more so, and even now when I go there, I crash at my next door neighbors’ place instead of my family’s house most of the time. I miss having that sense of community, that closeness to people because we all had each other’s backs. Where I live now, I don’t even know most of my neighbors’ names. It sucks.

Ahh, there’s the part that I’ve seen the gifs of, with Bucky showing up at the boat. I like the idea that Bucky has slowly come to think of his metal arm as more of a normal part of him despite the ache and heaviness of it. Of course in MCU, he has the serum so maybe he doesn’t notice as much, but I can’t imagine he wouldn’t experience phantom pain in it until at least he internalized it as his own body part, and even then the shoulder joint would probably ache. Still, perhaps it’s more akin to an old injury than a foreign object now, and therefore Bucky still does what he would do naturally, using his dominant hand instead of the ‘enhanced’ one.

I have Feelings about Bucky saying “I’m Bucky” with a smile okay I HAVE FEELINGS

Bucky must have worked the docks a lot way back in the 40s. His level of competence is one of natural instinct, he’s just used to it. I wonder if he worked extra to help pay for medication for Steve after Sarah passed away… oh, more feels :(

Meanwhile Sam is over here doing his human best and I love that. He calls in the crew to help, relies on people, but it never stops him from being a part of it. He’s not taking a managerial role, he’s another tooth on the gear.

“They don’t care if you wear small tee shirts or have six toes or your mom’s your aunt” lmao my brain went ‘You don’t happen to have six toes on your right foot, do you?’ ‘Do you start all of your conversations this way?’ But also look how happy they look here!!!

“Don’t flirt with my sister. Because if you do I’ll have Carlos cut you up, feed you to the fish.” SAM YOU’RE SO RIDICULOUS. But also the way Bucky goes a little pouty after. <3

Lemar’s family! Okay so Walker is straight up lying to them about who it was that killed him, but given the circumstances, I don’t expect anything different. And perhaps part of that is to assuage the family about the fact that there’s ‘justice’ done, but part of it also has to be a slight ego play, and you can see on his face that when they talk about him resting easier, his jaw sets. He’s going to go after who actually did it, whether he has the jurisdiction to or not. He does seem genuinely regretful and I will reiterate the brother-in-arms bit above. Walker needed Lamar as a support system, a confidante, and a nudge in the right direction.

What is Bucky thinking about when he sees the kids playing with the shield? Is he remembering his own childhood? Is he thinking about a future where the shield will be valued and honored and carried right again? Is he thinking about what it’s like to have a family, and missing his own? I need to know these things -_- -> WAIT I THINK IT GOT ANSWERED DURING THE TRAINING MONTAGE. Oh it’s even more than I thought augh. The closest thing he’s got left to a family is the shield because Steve was as much a part of it as it was a part of Captain America dfsjhdgfsd

“You gotta stop looking to other people to tell you who you are.” is SUCH AN IMPORTANT SENTIMENT. And “You want to climb out of the hell you’re in, do the work.” As someone who deals with a lot of mental illness bullshit, this is the TRUEST statement. Yeah, you might need help. It might be therapy, it might be meds, it might be other coping skills and distractions, but if you don’t want to be better and do better for yourself and face the rawest and most uncomfortable parts of your psyche, you don’t improve. You stay complacent, stay stuck in that rut, doing the same things that didn’t work before. I need to say it doubly because you know some people are going to say that Sam’s not giving Bucky the support he needs to climb out. IT’S NOT HIS JOB. He will choose to give support when Bucky asks/needs because he’s a compassionate person, but this speech right here is compassion, it is exactly the tough love he says it is. Bucky needed to be called out on not coping and I’m glad that it happened.

Training montage! I hope he doesn’t slice his fingers off on that shield yeesh. Also my Clint muse is watching those flips like oooooh the dude’s got moves on the ground too now, oh no.

Okay we get that the Flag Smashers are going for intimidation but the trope of the red lighting makes me laugh every time. Nobody is going to turn out the lights and then turn on a different set of conveniently red lights that probably weren’t normally installed in that building. Even emergency lighting wouldn’t look like that. It’s just funny, I dunno. And of course we get a cliffhanger ending.

Post-credits we get John’s new shield being built, and all I can say is 1) if he’s able to pound that out, clearly his new shield isn’t vibranium, and 2) LEARN HOW TO WELD NEATLY AUGH THAT WAS AWFUL XD

Overall thoughts: Good episode! Not a huge amount of plot furthering, aside from the very last bit, but good insight into characterization and believably building the relationship between Sam and Bucky while also reading into motivations and differing views from people who come from similar circumstances. I’m really enjoying the compare & contrast I’m getting to do between Isaiah and Bucky and Sam, because there are so many overlaps and stark differences between them. The first half also gave us some great headway into understanding John as a person, though it’s possible some of that is me overanalyzing because I have a muse for him.

The 100 rewatch: 1x03 Earth Kills

I’m a new fan of The 100, who first binged it last year, August to November. This is my first full rewatch of the show. I was planning to start it anyway and finish it before the season 6 premiere on April 30, and when I saw that Fox Serbia was airing a rerun (Monday to Friday, 40 min. after midnight, with repeats the next day), starting on 1st February, it was a great opportunity to start my rewatch in HDTV on my beautiful new TV. I decided to do write-ups and tag other fans on SpoilerTV website, as I did when I was first watching the show. But my posts turned into full blown essays. So, finally, after over a week, I’ve realized: Why don’t I post them on my Tumblr blog, too? I’ll copy my write-ups of the first 7 episodes, and then I’ll post my rewatch posts after I watch each episode. (The next one, 1x08, is on Monday’Tuesday.)

Wow, the show actually got good pretty quickly. After how bad much of first two episodes was, full of cheesy teen soapy stuff, I was surprised how solid 1x03 was throughout - I wouldn't be embarrassed to show it to someone to show what The 100 is like. I remember that I found 1x03 and 1x04 a real improvement the first time as well, but I was still unsure about the show till 1x05. I think it's because there's again some teen soapy BS at the end of 1x04, which put me off big time the first time I watched it, since I expected the worst, especially with the Clarke/Finn/Raven love triangle, but now I know that this storyline was resolved in a surprisingly good and not at all cliche way. Still, I was mildly annoyed by the ending of that episode.

Rating: 8/10

The acid fog! I had forgotten that it turned up in the show and played such a significant role so early. The Mountain Men were already killing the Delinquents 10 episodes before they even showed up and interacted with them directly. It killed 3 people - Trina and Pascal (random couple that we first saw just before they died), and Atom. (Atom also has the distinction of bein Octavia's first love interest on the show. Love interests tend to die a lot in this show in general, but in particular, so far everyone who's made out or had sex with Octavia so far has ended up dead.) And then at the very end, in the twist ending, Wells, the first dead main character, killed by another Delinquent, 12 year old Charlotte. I know that they wanted to kill off a main character to show how edgy the show was, but I remember didn't find Wells' death that much of a surprise at the time - that it happened so quickly, yes, that was a surprise, and that a little girl killed him, but I had already been expecting him to die and wondering how long he'd survive, with so many of the Delinquents hating him because of his father. Charlotte has something in common with Clarke, Bellamy, Octavia and Murphy - parents executed by Jaha. Awww, the early season 1 Clarke - so innocent and full of moral certainty, "saying things like "This isn't the Ark, down here every life matters", and pretty open about her feelings, before she started to bottle them up. I loved it when she said to Finn: "Why is it a bad thing that I don't want Jasper to die?" Yes, exactly! It annoyed me so much that he and others were acting like her trying to save a person instead of go around having fun and not giving a damn was so weird. Clarke's speech to Charlotte early in the episode, talking about the traumatic past on the Ark: "All the pain up there... maybe all that is behind us. Maybe now we have a second chance on the ground." Well, that didn't work out But maybe now they will have the third chance on the other planet. Our first flashbacks to the Ark - memories of happy life with the Griffins and the Jahas, before Jake Griffin decided to tell the Ark the truth, and got executed by his friend Thelonius (this is also the first time we see a person getting floated - which reminds me of Battlestar Galactica, which had many scenes like that), and Clarke got locked up for a year. 16-year old Clarke and Wells, and their dads, happily watching some 140 year old tape of a soccer match. Of course, this kind of happy life - while just normal by our standards - was the privilege of the elite on the Ark. In 1x06 we get to see very different flashbacks of the Blake family. Even the living quarters of the Blakes are very different and shabby. But at least they had books - books are always the cheaper entertainment. Finn is probably at his nicest and most likable in this episode. It doesn't last long, but at least in this episode he figures out that Wells is letting Clarke believe he betrayed her father to cover up for her mother. Finn figures it out and makes an effort to fix Clarke's friendship with Wells. Although, if I were to be cynical, I'd say that it's not an accident that he did it only after he had asked Wells if he and Clarke had ever been an item, learned that they had not, and concluded he didn't have to fear Wells as competition. And now that Clarke has realized the truth, we get the beginning of the multi-episode mini arc about Clarke's resentment of her mother for getting her father killed. But to be fair, Abby clearly never expected Jaha to actually execute Jake. Though the first time I watched the show, I didn't understand how she could still be friends with Jaha after that. I guess she could justify his actions by the idea that life on the Ark was tough and they had to make sacrifices etc. The show sort of comes back to this plot in season 4, when (in 4x11, after Clarke and Jaha has stolen the bunker), Jaha expects Abby to be OK with Kane being sacrificed, and Abby is like, nope, not this time. Murphy is getting very obnoxious in this episode, which is kind of a prelude to the next one. Before he was just antagonizing Wells, which was unfair to Wells but to an extent understandable since we know that Wells' dad spaced Murphy's father, but now he spends most of the episode complaining about hearing Jasper's cries of pain and saying he should die already. Meanwhile Bellamy gets to show his sensitive side, naturally, because there's a little girl nearby that he wants to be a big brother/pseudo-father to. It's kind of funny when people try to argue that it was OOC for Bellamy to put a chip in Madi's head so she can be a Commander because she's just 12 and he's protective of kids. He is, but his idea of protecting them is a bit different and consists of, say, giving 12 year old Charlotte a knife and teaching her to defend herself: "You cannot afford to be weak. Down here, weakness is death". Since he was told at the age of 6 that he needed to be his baby sister's protector, his idea of childhood may be a bit different than most viewers'. Monty about Bellamy, earlier in the episode, angry about his comments on Jasper: "Power-hungry, self-serving jackass. He doesn't care about anyone but himself". This is just one of the times in these episodes that people make such comments about him (Finn says Bellamy cares just about himself, after they learn about him throwing away the radio in 1x05), pretty obvious irony as we learn more and more about how his entire life and his motivation is all about protecting his sister. Clarke is also playing an almost motherly role to Charlotte. Both Clarke and Bellamy have this tendency to play a parent to others, including, sort of, to the Delinquents .But this time it spectacularly backfires - Charlotte misinterprets Bellamy's advice to "slay your demons" and uses the knife to kill Wells, and she does it imitating the way she saw Clarke mercy kill Atom, and singing the same lullaby Clarke sang. That moment when Clarke mercy kills Atom is a pretty important one for the development of Bellamy's and Clarke's relationship - earlier on he was doing that thing that characters in post-apocalyptic shows often do, when they say things like "You don't have the guts to make tough decisions", which is usually about killing someone (Kane had similar lines in the Pilot) - or in this case, mercy-killing. He claimed he was going to kill Jasper if he doesn't get better by the morning, but later was obviously finding it hard when faced with the necessity of mercy killing Atom. One more early sign that Bellamy didn't really find it easy to kill people. Clarke doing that instead of him and gently killing Atom after singing him a lullaby is a really good scene, and you can see from Bellamy's face that it's the moment when he really gains new respect for Clarke. Clarke has probably seen her mother do that to patients quite a few times, Sadly, this is not the last time these two will get to have important bonding moments over having to kill people. That's how messed up their lives and the situations they are put in are. To be fair, the show does show a scene of Octavia mourning Atom. Then they have the next episode take place a week later, which is a nice excuse to never have him mentioned again. Also a nice excuse to show just one scene of Clarke mourning Wells in 1x04 and then never have her mention her childhood BFF again.

One thing you should know about me (The Blogger): While I tend to be super laid-back and chill most of the time due to very… problematic RP Partners in the past (Specifically one person in general and an RP group that was toxic as well) I am very hesitant to let a lot of people into my little bubble and corner of the world. I’ve been RPing for the most part of about 16+ years and my early days were on ye old RP forums and online things like that. I get afraid of what people may think of my OCs since I tend to do various things that are really OUT there so to speak (IE: I don’t care about lore breaking if you happen to do it) and as many have potentially seen on this blog Jacques IS a Dragon and holds ties to Bahamut/Nidhogg/Midgardsormr and he basically isn’t your run of the mill character. I’m a very shy and anxious person at the start but once I ease my way into something I tend to be pretty much okay for the most part, it just takes a bit for that first big step to be taken. For the most part I tend to just lurk and linger in my own little corner of the world and let people come my way as I such at just ‘walking up’ and RPing in game and the like. Basically I tend to be quiet and don’t really speak to anyone unless I am approached first, I’m cautious with meeting new people because of problems from my past and I tend to be a hard person to truly ‘read’ until you get to know me which is why I often refer to my wife ( @talechaser-ffxiv) if I need to explain anything that I, myself, cannot explain.

One thing you should know about my Muse(s): Overall the majority of my characters tend to be a mixed bag of nuts that you don’t know really what you are getting. For the most part I can adapt to things with my OCs depending on the situation and the like, it’s all a matter of how things are for the given RP at the time. Me and my Muses/OCs are very adaptive and I have done so many RPs where things have been ‘changed up’ so to speak so I’m open to a lot of things as are my OCs. While they all have their own canon backstories, etc. that I will post about for them this doesn’t mean that I will completely adhere to it unless it’s something that my RP partners want. I tend to break a lot of things (Canon, Lore, etc.) so really my Muses tend to do the same. Jacques as mentioned about is a Dragon and can transform into that form whenever his emotions hit a breaking point. Another thing to note is that while he will generally be okay with going out and taking a tumble in the sheets (IE: Having sex with someone) he is for the most part a person that will not truly ‘settle down’ and put himself into a solitary relationship. He’s polyamorous for the most part and I am sorry if that might potentially disappoint people but overall Jacques is just not the sort to simply settle down and I tend to reserve my characters for very close friends or my wife @talechaser-ffxiv. I have various other muses however including Alrek yae Galvus (Garlean Half-breed) and Faust Greystone (Elezen/Au Ra Half-breed) and most of my muses in general tend to be in a wide variety of character types though I guess I tend to lead towards that ‘traumatic past’ character type a lot with backstories.

I tried taking French in Middle/High School but it never got far, I just fail hard when it comes to these things :C I would love to learn another language eventually though.

Ok, this one is too long to do a blow-by-blow in a Tumblr post, so I'm gonna talk about it more generally.

For those of you who haven't read the series this story is a part of, it's a long-running AU which branches off of canon after "The Gift."  I started writing the first story in it immediately after "The Gift" aired, so Spuffy wasn't even a canon thing yet.  At the time, I was pretty certain that Spuffy would never be a canon thing; at most, I thought, there would be a lot of pining and UST, and maybe, in the very last season, Spike would get the crumb he was hoping for.

But I didn't care about that; something doesn't have to be canon for me to ship the hell out of it.  And I was fascinated by the concept of an evil demon trying to be good.  What would it look like, I wondered, if Spike and Buffy did get together in a working, functional relationship?  What changes and compromises would both of them have to make?  How would it meet both their needs?  What would the pain points be?  Of course, the easiest way to do it would be to slap a soul into Spike, but I felt that the show had already thoroughly explored that avenue with Angel, and I wanted to do something different.  Plus I have never been one to do things the easy way, and one of the recurring themes in my writing in general is free will and choices.  So I set myself the challenge of writing a story about how Buffy and Spike forge a relationship that works for both of them, and doesn't cheat on characterization – that is, Spike, having no human soul, is still "evil" in Buffyverse terms, and his motivations and behavior reflect that; even when he is doing good things, he is not doing them in the same way, or for the same reasons, as a human would. *

ANYWAY.  In this AU, Warren Mears and Co. still killed Katrina, but Warren went to jail for it.  However, when his inventions came to the attention of Wolfram & Hart, they got him released on a technicality, and brought him into their R&D department.  Warren took the opportunity to get his revenge on Buffy and Spike by zapping Buffy into a W&H pocket dimension, where W&H was collecting Buffys from many dimensions for nefarious purposes.  Unbeknownst to Warren, Buffy has just discovered that she's pregnant.  

This scenario generated four stories: "The Lesser of Two Evils," which details what happens when Willow and Spike confront Warren and try to force him to bring Buffy back; "In A Yellow Wood," which is about Buffy's adventures in the pocket dimension, "If the Grave Be Now Thy Bed," which deals with the fallout of the first two stories, and "To Grandmother's House," which wraps up the arc with Buffy's final decision about the fate of her baby.

I wrote these stories all out of order: "To Grandmother's House" first, "The Lesser of Two Evils" second, "In A Yellow Wood" third, and "If the Grave Be Now Thy Bed" last.  I knew the general course of the arc all along, but writing it inside out and backwards, over ten years or more, posed some interesting challenges.  "If the Grave Be Now Thy Bed" was not part of the original arc plan – in fact, it grew out of feedback I got for "The Lesser of Two Evils."

TLOTE/IAYW are deliberately morally ambiguous stories.  Spike, Willow, and Buffy all do questionable things – perhaps flat out wrong things – under severe emotional stress, and the consequences of those actions echo for a long time through the years to come.  While I hope that readers find their motives understandable, and even sympathetic, I didn't necessarily expect that every reader would agree with or approve of their actions.  Most people who've sent me feedback seem to enjoy the ambiguity, or at least find it intriguing.  Not all of them, however.  

One particular reader had...issues.  Over the course of several conversations, I found out that while they were a Spuffy shipper, they had very particular requirements for the kind of Spuffy stories they liked.  They had to be either A) totally canon-compliant, angst-ridden stories where Buffy hated herself for giving in to Spike's sinister attraction, or B) stories where Spike was a Romance Novel Bad Boy With a Heart of Gold, and there was a tacit agreement between writer and reader that hey, we both know this is totally OOC for both characters, but we're just here for the porn, amirite nudge-nudge wink-wink.

Reader In Question had started in on my work with the assumption that it fell into the latter category, but the more they read, the less comfortable they got, because, as I mentioned above, I was in this for serious.  I sweat blood over characterization.  And I was starting to convince them that maybe a relationship between Buffy and soulless Spike COULD work.  And they didn't WANT to believe that.  So they absolutely had to interpret my work as a dystopian take on Buffy's slide into total moral decay, with this particular arc as the nadir of her fall.**  They left me some despondent feedback on TLOTE, wondering what Warren's dear mother would think of this turn of events.  I'm not sure if they intended to shame me (or Buffy) for our evil ways, but I thought it was an interesting point.  And it planted the seed of an idea.

Over the next several years, as I worked on IAYW (and let me say right here, the less-than-enthusiastic feedback Reader In Question sent me on TLOTE made me work my ass off on IAYW.  Though I obviously don't agree with their overall interpretation, I thought they had some good points, and I wanted to be sure that IAYW addressed those points) I mulled over the thought: What WOULD happen if Warren's dear old mother confronted Buffy and Spike?  

A lot would depend upon what Warren's dear old mother was like.  There were two obvious ways I could go with that: she could be an innocent victim, or she could be as much of a monster as Warren was.  But I didn't want to do anything obvious with this story.   Fic-wise, I always like to take the road less traveled if I can, but in this case, I have to admit that I got a perverse pleasure out of taking Reader In Question's finger-wagging admonition and using it as inspiration for a story that's, well, not exactly what I imagine they were hoping to inspire.  I decided that I was going to make Mrs. Mears a little of both.

The next question was, what did I want to have happen when she shows up?Again, the obvious thing would be to have Buffy feel guilty.  But I had already dealt extensively with Buffy's feelings, and her reasons for making the decisions she made, in IAYW and TGH.  Yes, she feels guilty; she's not sure she did the right thing.  She's not even sure there was a right thing to do.  But that particular subplot plays out over the long term in this AU, culminating many years later in a completely different story arc, and I couldn't bring it to a premature resolution here.  Besides, I knew that Barbverse Buffy would never return to the uncompromising system of morality that Reader In Question wanted her to,*** so there was no point in writing a story where she Learns Her Lesson, Dusts Spike, and Is Very Sorry. ****

So I decided that this story would focus on Spike, and his reaction to Warren's mother and her loss of a son.  And that opened up a lot of possibilities.  I was to some extent constrained by the fact that I'd already written quite a lot of stories taking place after this one in the timeline, so there were certain things I couldn't do.  But I've always found that if you ask yourself, "What would X logically do in this situation?" and follow that through, you can avoid Idiot Plot Syndrome.   Let your characters be smart.   What would Spike do, confronted with the mother of the man he'd killed?  What would Mrs. Mears demand of him in recompense?  

What I wanted to do in this story was to answer those questions in a way that people wouldn't expect.  I was able to bring Spike's ambivalent feelings about his own mother into play, and provide a way for him to get some character development around coming to terms with her death and his part in it that I might not otherwise have been able to do.  And I was able to draw parallels between Warren and his mother, and Spike and Anne Pratt, and come up with some really intriguing takes on how and why Spike can do the right(ish) thing even when his reasons are kinda-sorta wrong(ish).  It gives some background, hopefully, on  how Buffy can make the ultimate decision she does in "To Grandmother's House," and not feel that she's tobogganing head-first down the slippery slope of Utter Moral Decay.  And I got to write Zombie Warren, who was gruesomely, deliciously horrible.  And I got to give Mrs. Mears the last word.

By the time I finished the story, Reader In Question had long since left fandom, and they probably wouldn't have read it even if they were still around.  But I feel I have to thank them for it anyway.  And that's why I always say that even though I don't necessarily like getting critical feedback, it can be the most useful feedback you can get if you look at it in the right way.

* I could write a whole nother essay about the challenges of writing an evil-trying-to-be-good vampire, but that is beyond the scope of the current post.

** Eventually, they practically begged me to tell them that I was deliberately writing Buffy and Spike out of character, and that I didn't really think a relationship between them could work.  Alas, I could not oblige them, and they stopped reading my stuff.

*** I don't even believe canon Buffy stuck to that kind of rigid moral code – she tried to, but one of the things that makes her a complex, fully realized character is that canon Buffy is perfectly capable of double standards and hypocrisy where her friends are concerned, not to mention just plain changing her mind about things over the course of the show.  For every decision I have Barbverse Buffy [or Spike, for that matter] make, I can point to something in canon and say "This is why I think she could do that."

****Although... I do have an alternate ending to "To Grandmother's House" plotted out in my head, where Buffy [either accidentally or on purpose – just as in the main story, it's ambiguous] doesn't stop Giles in time.  I consider the Barbverse to be a low-probability AU, and I watch out for times and ways in which things could go spectacularly wrong, just so I can be sure to avoid them in a believable manner.  Or write stories about them going wrong, and the characters dealing with them.

In the Jungles of Par Vollen

In the jungles of Par Vollen there are a series of pyramids amid ruins of “vast cities”. What we actually know is that they are “largely intact” and we have no idea why they were built. Scholars don’t think that they were tombs, but there were preserved bodies.  Nowhere is the race of these bodies mentioned. Not even to say that they’re human remains. Since some scholars say that the humans came from Par Vollen, it’s easy to make the jump that the bodies there are human remains, but I question that.  

No, I don’t have much in the way of ���proof” for this, outside of the fact that the codices go out of their way to say “some scholars”, rather than just “Scholars” or something like that, as if there is no consensus.  I’m also going to ignore the possibility of inconsistent writing on the part of Bioware, because 1) I’m about game lore, not ooc stuff, and 2)they’re consistently really good at encouraging the kind of, “I’m not saying it’s aliens…” rambling that I’m doing here. :D

Renatus of Ayesleigh said in his A Compiled History of the Occupied North,  “We know more of the pyramids than we do of the humans who built them.”  This is, as far as I can find, the only reference to the builders being human. 

Why do I keep on about this? Because I don’t necessarily believe they were built by humans.  Renatus wonders, in his compiled history, how a civilization advanced enough to build these great sprawling cities and pyramids did not leave any signs of resistance to the invasion of Qunari.

He then talks about the remains of temples and stylized carvings that remain, depicting “sea creatures, shipwrights, musicians,archers, and kings” as well as some tall horned figures that are not believed to be Qunari.

Of course it’s possible that they were Qunari. It’s possible that they were what we think of as “Kossith”. But I don’t think they were and I don’t want to talk about the Kossith yet.  Good old Renatus is pretty convinced that we don’t have remnants of battles because the people there welcomed the Qunari because of the horned folks in the carvings. The return of a legend, etc etc. Maybe, or maybe the people who built the pyramids were mostly gone by the time the Qunari came.

Now, let’s talk a minute about this statue at the top of the post. This statue (in the Hissing Wastes) is one of the reasons I started this tumblr in the first place. I know lots of folks think it’s either a Qunari woman, or a desire demon. I couldn’t remember where I took the screenshot, so when I was googling things, I came across this tumblr post: (http://lairofsentinel.tumblr.com/post/111607083211), and while I don’t agree with their assessment necessarily (And that’s one of the fun parts of all this meta stuff-we all can draw completely different conclusions from the same data. :) ), the screenshots in the post made me stop and think about them.

They are screenshots of the same/a similar statue in the Fade. This statue, though, is in tandem with a figure that certainly looks Tevinter/Venatori reminiscent. I feel like I will end up coming back to these two statues in the Fade at some point.

For now, though, I think it’s enough to say that I think the woman depicted in these statues is of the same group that’s depicted as tall and horned in the temples in the jungles of Par Vollen.

When I started writing this post, I assumed the next post would be about what we know about the kossith and how/if any of that fits here. But after the Fade statues, I think next we will be looking at the origins of Tevinter.

(End edit: Yes, I know now that the Tevinter looking fella is beside the horned lady in the Hissing Wastes too.  This just makes it extra clear that Tevinter is where I need to be looking next maybe. :) )

A Quick Warning

This, as well as all of my other roleplay blogs, is canon divergent, unintentionally in some places, but mostly by my own design. None of the characters I am currently writing are entirely straight. This is just because of my own opinions on the legendarium, especially pertaining to Elven culture. If you aren’t comfortable interacting with characters that are or have been in same-sex relationships, I don’t recommend following this blog. 

OOC

Don’t hesitate to IM me if you need/want to talk about anything, whether it pertains to our threads or not. I find that the best written relationships that my muses have are the one with muns who don’t mind talking about them OOC, because that generally leads to countless hours of plotting, speculating, and headcanoning events that fill in the gaps between our threads.

No Godmodding, Metagaming, etc.

Please refrain from godmodding (controlling my character through your writing) or metagaming (assuming that your character knows everything about mine) when we are writing together. Lindir is light in weight and doesn’t have particularly developed self-defense skills, so picking him up and things like that aren’t an issue as long as you are writing the actions of your character, and not the actions of mine. 

Verses

I’m always open to crossovers, group verses, and the like. Generally, crossovers with other fandoms work out well in my modern verse(s). I do prefer to have basic familiarity of crossover fandoms, however, and currently the list of fandoms other than Tolkien I am comfortable with are limited to Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts, DCTV (The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl only), and possibly some Marvel and Doctor Who (modern verse interactions work best for this). Exclusive verses are also available for mutuals. Verses page is coming soon.

Selectivity

This is a semi-private (that is, I don’t write with everyone but I am open to roleplaying with new people) blog. See this post for more details and reasoning on this on this policy.

Formatting and Icons

I tend not to format past the most basic things for neatness using X-Kit, although you may see an icon every now and again (all of which I make myself). If you need me to format in a particular way (for our threads only) don’t hesitate to ask. I am fine with any formatting, but if you are going to use icons, please make sure that the largest dimension is no larger than 200px. If your primary face claim is an animated character, I ask that you provide a real person as an alternative if we are writing together. To be able to write well, I need to be able to visualise the scenes, and my brain just can’t do this with animated characters.

Triggers and Tagging

NSFW

There will be some sexual/nudity NSFW on this blog, which I try my absolute best to tag. (If I forget to tag something or reblog something that I don’t think is necessarily sexual but you would like tagged, send me an ask or an IM; it isn’t an issue.) I don’t write smut here, but there are some threads that involve scenes leading up to sex. For this reason, I ask that you don’t follow me if you’re under the age of thirteen, because the thought of someone that young reading my NSFW disturbs me and you shouldn’t be on tumblr anyways.

About Pages

Firstly, please read mine - my Lindir is heavily headcanon based. Secondly, regardless of whether you are an OC or canon, I do prefer that you have clear rules and an about page for your muse(s) so that I am able to get a feel for your version of them before writing. I’m unlikely to follow or write with you if there is no easily accessed information about your characters on your blog. I am very selective about fandomless OCs, multi-muses with characters from multiple fandoms, and crossover interactions that I don’t already have verses for.

Shipping

First, the usual about ship forcing. Please don’t assume that we are shipping unless we’ve explicitly talked about it OOC. Unrequited feelings are fine. Shipping guides for each of my muses are coming soon. We must be comfortable talking to each other OOC to ship together; this is essential in building something realistic and meaningful. Lindir is bisexual in the canon verse, but he’s much more likely to engage in friends-with-benefits type relationships than in romantic relationships. In most third age verses, Lindir has or has had some sort of (usually quite intense) feelings for Elrond at some point, which is something to bear in mind. In the modern verse, Lindir is gay and because I usually play him at around 30 years old, he’s secure about his identity as a gay man, and therefore I will only ship modern Lindir with male-identifying characters.

Replies

How long it takes me to reply to something varies based on several factors. It could be anything from twenty minutes to three weeks. I tend to reply in order of what I’m most excited about and what is easiest to write in response to in that moment. If you’re wondering about the state of your reply, please IM me and ask directly, but please don’t constantly pester me for it. This makes me hesitant to reply to anything and really ruins writing for me. Do be aware of the fact that 

Things I Won’t Do

Reblog Karma: generally I try to send things in before reblogging memes if at all possible, and also send things to people who reblog memes from me if I can, but I don’t expect the same from anyone, and I will never enforce reblog karma or allow anyone to force it onto me.

Certain characters: OC children of Elrond and/or Celebrian are a no, especially the secret/neglected ones; Other OC siblings or children of characters that have established canon families (for example, we know who all of Feanor’s children were); characters created with the intent of shipping with a certain canon character that I play (e.g. OC wives of Glorfindel); most wives of Thranduil/mothers of Legolas; and most cisswapped/genderbent characters other than Ainur. 

Comply with LaCE: I choose to reject most parts of LaCE. I will still write with LaCE compliant blogs because it’s rarely an issue unless our characters are married, courting, or having sex. I do not believe Elves are immune to desire, and any references about Men being lesser because of their lust will be lost on all of my characters. I do think that different groups of Elves have different attitudes towards sex, marriage, and general affection, though, and this may come across in my writing.

Mpreg: Unless your character is a trans man, or there is some sort of magic or advanced technology involved that provides another reason for a male character to have the physical means to conceive and birth a child realistically within the boundaries of their universe, I am not interested in writing about male pregnancy. I also am unlikely to ever write in any A/B/O verses.

Incest: this is a difficult one because of all of the incest in the source material (i.e. Elrond is the fourth cousin of his own grandchildren; Aragorn and Arwen are first cousins a bunch of times removed), so it’s a case by case basis for the most part. Since my version of Lindir is only related to my portrayal of his brother on nerevoite and to other NPCs on this blog, it’s unlikely that I’ll ever have to worry about accidentally writing an incestuous relationship for him.

Sexualization of children: Firstly, I will not write with, follow, or talk OOC with anyone who writes pedophilic relationships; has a character or themselves have pedophillic thoughts, desires or tendencies; or who condones pedophilia in any other way. In terms of older children, even though I do understand that many young teenagers do have sexual desires, please refrain from describing graphic sex that involves anyone under the age of 16 or sex that involves an adult and a minor.
