Even more headcanons no one asked for: the Mechanicsburg Solstice tradition!

I recently reread the Mechanicsburg Solstice Story because I like it and it's a nice discrete slice of this universe. (...I have also watched enough of Kaja's office hours livestreams that the voice-acting in my head is now prepared for this story specifically.)

So in lieu of actually writing this as a fic, for your amusement, I've pulled together my headcanons of Agatha (and family) vs. the Mechanicsburg Solstice chase:

(I have - of course - assumed the OT3)

Agatha finds out about the Solstice tradition ahead of time the next year, maybe at some kind of meeting with the town elders

Gil and/or Tarvek immediately go "The hell you will," at whoever told her they'd be chasing her all over town (probably Van, but he can deal with them, he'll be fine)

Agatha immediately goes, "Yes actually the hell I will, sit down." Per the Agreement [my headcanon, not from the comic], Agatha gets to argue with them about Empire things if she wants to, but they do not get to argue with her about Mechanicsburg things

Everyone immediately perceives that the Lady's consorts are going to get involved for her if something isn't done. It's not a huge leap of perception here. No one's willing to fight them, so...

Excessive negotiations finally settle on that Gil and Tarvek are allowed to attend the party beforehand but MUST be back in Castle Heterodyne, in reboot mode or not, before midnight (Cinderella vibes a bit here...)

Joke's on the council, this is exactly the outcome that Tarvek had in mind and he was cuing Gil to start deliberate arguments that they could then strategically lose; they only run an empire, c'mon

Agatha isn't allowed to take tools, weapons, and/or equipment into this game, thus the specifically chosen-for-her outfit, but...

...no one is frisking her consorts while they wander around the festival as a couple being cute and chatting with people

(side note, Tarvek knows a remarkable number of Mechanicsburgers by name specifically; when Gil comments on this, Tarvek admits that he doesn't take food or drink from people he doesn't know, because they're less likely to poison him if they actually know him)

(the argument about how anyone who actually knew Tarvek would poison him faster lasts them most of the rest of the way through the festival. C'mon. They're cute and they love each other, but they're not going to miss that good a fight)

...every single pocket Gil and Tarvek have at this point, and they're wearing coats because it's midwinter and, c'mon, they're Sparks, so that's a lot of pockets, is full of useful tools and materials and power cores and such

Violetta has helped with this a lot. These pockets are practically bigger on the inside now

Is anyone actually going to stop the Lady of Mechanicsburg from kissing her consorts in the street where the whole town and the Jägerhorde too can wolf-whistle and cheer at them?

The Castle ringing the Doom Bell to call time would wake them up, of course, although I suspect they're smart enough to set a predawn alarm. No one deserves the Doom Bell as an alarm clock. But once the Castle assures them that Agatha won (again), they might as well go back to sleep...

Agatha probably just crawls into the campout nest with them when she gets home

kainess - in my eyes they're already semi-canon ("it's a beautiful blue" sounds a lot like "the moon is beautiful, isn't it?") but i don't think ness's feelings will ever be reciprocated. or even if they are i don't think they'll be endgame for the sake of both their character developments yk

kaisagi - they're my favs so that's why they're this high but if i'm being serious, they won't become anything more than semi-canon. at most, we're gonna have a short bit with kaiser watching isagi clips again and going "wait a minute am i actually gay" and he accepts, moves on, and it's never addressed again

bachisagi - they have a better chance than most other ships but i really don't think they'll be anything more than platonic.

1. Jungkook - I just know this boy is fucking seven days a week. He’s too goddamn fine and too much of a tease; he knows his effect on people and I fully believe he uses it to his advantage. 4. RM - Namjoon is a complex one. He strikes me as a little girl crazy and desperate for love, but at the same time he holds very high standards for his partner and is quite selective. I see him engaging in casual sex maybe once or twice just to try it out or to release some steam, but ultimately not enjoying it. I also predict he had one or two long term serious girlfriends rather than many casual ones. The lesser likely scenario is that he has deceived all of us and is actually a huge fuckboy.

5. V - While he’s extremely experimental in the bedroom when in a relationship, he doesn’t strike me as the type to hook up with random women or date casually. On the contrary, he is an all or nothing kind of guy when it comes to romance and doesn’t fall for people easily. He’s loyal and a hopeless romantic. He might have an ex that he views as “the one that got away” that prevents him from dating other people.

6. j-hope - Truthfully, I see j-hope as borderline asexual. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him show romantic or physical interest in anyone. If he does date, however, it would be casual and low key, but committed. He’s not particularly serious about relationships, but not interested in casual sex or quick flings either. Maybe romance just isn’t a priority in his life and he’s focused on other things.

7. Jin - I put Jin at the bottom of the list because he is such a massive introvert that he probably doesn’t even go out enough to meet women. I have no doubt he would easily attract many people with his unreasonably handsome face and comedic sense of humor, but even so, he doesn’t seem particularly interested in dating anyways. If any of the members were to be with one person for their entire life, it would be Jin.

Random ideas I had for riordanverse ocs

One is serious the other is sort of a joke but I want to talk about it anyway.

Oc 1 (the serious oc): aro/ace child of Aphrodite named Abelia. Her father owns a flower shop that's well known for its valentines day floral arrangements, which is how he caught the attention of the goddess. While Abelia doesn't have much of an interest in a love life of her own, she is very in tune with the lives of others, possessing an uncanny ability to predict when people get together and when they break up. She can talk to birds, though only the ones sacred to her mother, and always smells faintly of roses. She likes to pull pranks, having inflicted campers with semi-permanent makeup on more than one occasion- and intends to be a fashion designer someday.

Oc 2 (the joke one but is also slowly becoming a semi-serious one the more I think about it because I find the idea funny): A clear-sighted mortal who recently graduated with a masters in graphic arts, and applied for a graphic design position at Triumvirate Holdings, and somehow got the job. Despite being able to see all the monsters and weird creatures wandering around at her day-to-day, she never once has any inkling that her employers are semi-divine emperors from ancient Rome, and just figures the eccentricities and weirdly uncanny resemblances to ancient busts to be part of the theming. The emperors aren't going to tell her, they think it's hilarious.

That's all I got. I might play with the ideas for more of them, like a roman demigod since ancient Rome is sort of my jam right now. I saw @star-mannnn doing ocs for demigods in the imperial households in Triumvirate Holdings, and the idea kinda intrigues me, so maybe???

christopher "kit" warren is the civilian identity of the vigilante known as PORTAL, a twenty-six year old meta-human with the ability to warp or teleport short distances (safely). outside of hero work, he's an independent video game developer and graphic designer, though the latter job is more for bringing in a semi steady flow of income rather than a job he does for pleasure. ideally, he'd love to have more time to work on games but he knows that that's not feasible at this point; both for the lack of income and because of his commitment to protect his community. being a hero comes first to him.

kit is originally from star city but moved away in his early twenties. his birth parents died when he was just a baby, his godfather, cole carpenter, took him in and raised him. his home life was fairly chill, he was well taken care of and never went without necessities but it was incredibly clear that cole wasn't prepared to raise a child. he still had growing up to do when he took kit in, since he was only in his early twenties and still hadn't even decided what he wanted to do in life. and while cole did his best, he was more of an older brother figure rather than the parental figure that kit needed.

that being said kit wouldn't change a single thing. he loves cole so much. that's his only real family. plus, there were perks to growing up with a young parent — rules tended to be lax, he had an easier time getting his way if he needed, and, once he was older, he could have fun spending time with his godfather doing things that they'd both enjoy. (one thing they would do together regularly was training at the gym where cole works. it started off as easy stuff, where kit was trying to mirror what cole was doing and gradually became more serious and branched off into kit begging cole to let him seriously train to become a fighter like he was. cole caved fairly fast.)

growing up he, like so many other children, loved superheroes. he'd play pretend with the other kids in his neighborhood and they'd all have their own hero identity (no one ever volunteered to be the villain, it was always more fun to be the good guys because they got all the perks). if anyone asked him during that time, he would've proudly told them that he wanted to be a hero when he grew up, he wanted to save people just like the heroes on the news. it wouldn't be until he was a little older that he'd realise his childish daydream could be reality. (his meta abilities would first manifest when he was around nine or ten, thus paving the way for his eventual decision to become a hero.)

being a meta was only a shock to kit himself, his godfather knew there was a chance he'd be one since both his parents were. the only thing he wouldn't have been able to predict was kit's abilities, which were nothing like his parents'. having a superpower was cool as hell to kit but it was terrible for cole; he now had to wrangle a superpowered child, who wasn't easily convinced that he shouldn't show off his power, and who was capable of evading him without putting much effort into it.

shortly after his abilities first manifested, kit came out to his godfather which caused cole to become more protective of him. he enrolled kit into self defense classes, alongside the training he was already doing with kit, to make sure that kit was able to defend himself when he was on his own. he wasn't about to lose his kid because some asshole didn't approve of his identity.

cole had no way of knowing that kit was going to use those skills when he would sneak out at night, taking his first steps as a hero in his neighborhood. he should've expected it, he really should've, given how serious kit was about becoming a hero but it still nearly gave him a heart attack when he found out. not even because kit told him, no he saw something, when he was reading the news, about a new meta hero that popped up in star city... who appeared to be pretty young (there was questions about how safe it is for a kid to be fighting crime)... and who could seemingly teleport.... and he didn't have to be a genius to figure out that that was HIS idiot teenage wannabe hero. needless to say kit was grounded for a couple weeks after cole found out and they had to have a long discussion about safety and why he shouldn't keep going out, even though cole knew that it wouldn't stop kit from going out. unfortunately.

as he got older he got cockier. he'd investigate riskier cases, he'd patrol outside of his neighborhood, and he stopped trying to stay under the radar of other heroes and vigilantes that happened to be in star city.

at twenty-six years old he's a fairly well established vigilante (& if the whole no metas in gotham fanon rule thing exists, than he's pretty regularly breaking that rule because? he doesn't give a shit about what batman says. he can't stop him.)

Appearance and quirks/hobbies headcanons for Maedhros? (His appearance is so fanonized, so I'm curious...)

Thank you for the ask!! I have to admit my appearance HCs for him are inspired in large part by the art I've seen in fandom! (This is variably true for my appearance HCs. I've got a few I will one day fight fandom about /lh).

Tallest of his brothers and immediate family, obviously, but shorter than Turgon and Thingol. You mostly think he's impressively tall because he's standing next to six other tall guys and he's the tallest of them all.

Handsome/beautiful/etc but also not notably the fairest of his brothers (that's Celegorm!). I think his mother-name is more about his build (very athletic, practical, lean muscle) than his facial features.

Pale grey eyes.

Very deliberate way of moving/holding himself. You would expect him to bump into things because he's, generally, very large, but he does not.

I think the majority of his post-Thangorodrim scars are not from torture/blade/etc but from smashing against the rock wall when he hung, and out of boredom/desperation/etc clawing at his own skin, especially around his right arm. Slightly crooked nose where he smashed against the cliff face and broken it before.

To add on to that: shoulders unevenly set post-Thangorodrim. One is notably higher than the other, giving him a weirdly lopsided look.

I have a lot of Noldor nail-painting hcs & I think Maedhros tends to go for a very classic red/pink/purple nail color when he paints his.

Not a ton of piercings. Has his usual ear piercings and wore a nose ring in Valinor, but doesn't bother with jewelry beyond maybe a few rings and a chain or two in Beleriand.

I usually HC him wearing a prosthetic only for special occasions. He cannot stand to have something strapped to him that way for long. I do think he is very practical about using the stump of his right arm, and uses it very fluidly.

Excellent poker face. Delivers both serious news and jokes in the same flat tone of voice. Genuinely hard to tell if he's fucking with you.

He's one of those guys that has a various hobbies he's pretty invested in without having a strong Thing. He reads, he hunts, he likes to go on walks. He gambles and plays games. He keeps hounds and is fairly invested in their well-being. In his youth he was a semi-okay painter (mostly landscapes) but he stopped doing it during the exile never picked that back up again.

If he's speaking to someone and thinks they're not listening, he'll start saying something ridiculous and/or insulting in the exact same tone of voice to see if they notice. This is mostly a habit he's gained from talking to Maglor, who is fairly distractible when he's bored.

Tendency to think through every action before he takes it, very pronounced. He does not start packing until he knows everything he needs. He does not write letters until he is sure what he will put to paper. Sometimes it is very easily to predict where he is going to go because he maps out his exact path with his eyes.

His bed is a big pile of heavy furs draped over with a few blankets over top. He's a very big guy but there's such a wild misshapen blanket situation going that it's genuinely hard to tell if he's in bed or not if you don't see his head.

A few streaks of white in his hair after his captivity. For a while he dyes his hair, which doesn't end up matching the color due to the dyes he has access to (so the streaks will usually look either bright yellow or red, not copper). Gives up on this towards the end of his life.

Hey there! I have a bit of an unusual question for you, but I'm curious to know if you have a favorite or least favorite type of Alternate Universes. I'm not referring to any particular fandom, but just in general. Personally, I'm not really into the "Opposite" or "Swap personality" AUs that tends to be one of the most popular and picked in fanbases or other media explore. It's just not my cup of tea, you know? But I'm interested in hearing your thoughts!

Ooo, I like this ask! I will happily answer as this one really got me thinking.

Personally, I am not a fan of swap AUs either, I think the one exception was 2015-2016 Undertale when I was a teen and the fandom was lively. Other than that I have not seen any fandom do this AU well at all. The same can be said about Soulmate AUs. While a lot of fics written for them are sweet, they do get boring and predictable. I guess I'm a reader that prefers unique experiences in fanfictions. I really like it when I see other writers use as much creativity as possible when making an AU or writing a fanfiction. It's even better when I read a fanfiction that not only adds onto the characters, but a writer who does an excellent job at keeping everyone in character.

But there are certain AUs I will actively avoid out of experience, and those AUs are usually horror and NSFW AUs. It's not that they scare or disgust me, it's the issue that they often attract people who are not well.

Every fandom has a sub-group of bad apples, but it's those AUs that really bring them out. I do see that the creators of these AUs are okay and mature enough to be making the serious topics taken seriously, but it's usually certain individuals that ruin things by making fanfics off of it or fanart. Way too many times I've read a fic with no warnings for AUs like that. Or at the very least, they do give warnings, just not proper ones. However, at least once, I think it was in the Overwatch fandom (not Overwatch 2, I mean Overwatch from around 2016-2019), that I came across a very well done monster AU of sorts. It had a healthy community going around it and any horror fics based on it were handled with maturity and taken seriously. Not to mention some of the fanfictions really gave me a good scare. That is what I love to see with writers and AUs.

Now, for my absolute favorites?

I am so in love with aquatic mythology AUs with the exception of mermaid AUs. Many Mermaid AUs tend to be picked a lot much like how you mentioned swap AUs being the same, usually that results in a bunch of fanfictions being similar or the exact same. I love AUs that have unique or exotic mythology for the AU. I guess a good example would be my Finfolk AU. That was inspired after I read an Orkney folklore storybook. It's nothing like mermaids and the folklore surrounding it can be changed to match whatever setting I want.

Some of the most notable ones I've read were semi-horror romance fanficions based on siren AUs. I also notice that people who write these fanfictions also take great care to research their sources or come up with new features to sirens that makes sense for the universe they are in. I could rant on about it, but I'll be here all night if I do. I hope this answer is satisfactory!

Hello! I stopped reading it a while ago so 1) my criticism for the comic isn't very fresh in my mind and 2) i don't have the full picture since i only read a handful of chapters, so i wouldnt be able to write a whole essay on it, but who doesn't love giving opinions!

From what i remember i didn't like it either, like i said disclaimer that i stopped reading halfway through and a while ago so maybe my complaints got solved down the line, my bad, etc. but the thing is that i sincerely do not want to go back and re-read it/read all the chapters which should speak for itself 🙏 I found the writing cringy and very superficial, very close to lobdell's rhato which will always leave a bad taste in my mouth. atp i don't care about jason being written as an "angry robin" as long as it has nuance and context, but i didn't get to see those two things in the webtoon so i get you (not to say it wasn't present, just that i literally didn't get there if it was expanded on later lol). What i remember pissed me off was the amount of memes and mcu style jokes in the comic, it felt lazy 🤷 i can text my friend and use 5 viral video references in it but doing the same thing on an official comic? Be serious please, i'm not asking you to become judd winick and give us the next utrh but at least dont steal funny tweets from the internet for a dialogue...

Also a thing i like about jason is that he's a dickhead but fun and charming in his own way and the jason in the webtoon was just boring sorry, if i google "action movies watch online" and picked a random title and pressed play im sure the main character would have the same feel as webtoon jason. AND ALSO! (family guy dad voice) i did not care for jason/artemis. Boring, yawning, sloppy, lazy. very predictable from the go and not even in a fun way, i was over it already and i read like only 7 chapters.  

And also a minor detail that i disliked, i hated jason's haircut KJLFG like that pissed me off so badly everytime i saw him without the helmet, put that shit back on.

Yes! Although the worldbuilding/magic system here isn’t very cohesive because I established it loosely when i was ~15 and then never dug any deeper.

Each of the core characters has a natural type of magic that aligns with their pre-Ch5 tool/medium power. This type of magic is an internal/external manifestation of their personality and cannot be learned from education; it is innate. It’s whatever makes you ‘weird’.

Max is naturally magnetic. Paperclips stick to him all of the time.

Isabel doesn’t control paper, but she’s very connected to books and paper will respond to her emotions. She has to learn to stay calm whenever she gets frustrated studying in the library.

Isaacs weather powers are much smaller than they are in canon. He does however have a tendency to shock people and have clouds follow him around.

Johnny’s insides are semi-burning constantly. He coughs up ashes when he’s flustered, blows steam out of his nose when hes pissed, and swallows down embers when he tries to say something that he doesn’t want to. His body naturally runs hot; when isabel finds him sitting alone outside of Yule he has a 2-foot radius of melted snow around him. Instead of fire magic it’s more like… heat magic? With little sparks and some fire thrown in

I feel like this is a direct connection to the Fives arc in TCW and THERE BETTER BE A NAME DROP PLEASE but also IM SO SCARED. On one hand it’s two episodes so yayyy!! But on the other, this really seems like it either has to do with the chips and Fives or some big secret/misunderstanding that might cause some serious tension within the Batch.

Ep9: The Crossing I mean come on. There’s no way this isn’t a play with Crosshairs name, why would this be the title if it’s not. I’m thinking this could be where Crosshair comes back (please), or maybe just Hunter and the Batch finally dealing with the fact that he left in the first place. Or maybe Crosshair is forced to work together with them again for a bit somehow? Or they just cross a big chasm or something and Crosshair is there. Could just be that.

Ep10: Retrieval ITS CROSSHAIR RIGHT. THEY’RE RETRIEVING CROSSHAIR THATS WHO IT IS RIGHT PLEASE I’M BEGGING. I think it’s either that or the Batch goes on some typical retrieval mission and along the way either rescues one of the Batch members from danger or maybe some other person (gungi?)

Ep11: Metamorphosis This could refer to so many things, but I think it might be the whole batch or just one member having a sort of revelation like:

If it’s the whole batch, maybe they’ll change and decide to join the fight against the Empire together

Omega: this could be her learning more about the world and maybe pushing back against Hunter to decide things for herself or disagree with what he wants to do

Cody?: I feel like this could be him breaking free of the control chip, maybe turning on/leaving the empire

It could also be Hunter finally deciding to have the batch join the rebellion, or Crosshair coming back (pleASE), or Echo leaving to join the rebellion alone (NO)

Ep12: The Outpost This one comes out the day before my birthday WOOO!!! My first thought here was Rishi Station, but honestly that connection is pretty unlikely. It could be Rex’s base or maybe the building we saw Cody walking up to in the trailer?

Ep13: Pabu what. is that a guy or…

Ep14: Tipping Point oh this could be so many things. It could be Cody and Crosshair fighting and one of them choosing a side, it could be one of them dying (omg no) making the others more determined to fight the empire, it could be Crosshair coming back (PLS), it could be Echo deciding to leave and join Rex with the rebellion (DONT), it could literally be so many things. In any case, it’s clearly the lead up to/start of the big end conflict, so it’s safe to assume something serious is going down and I’m scared.

Ep15: The Summit and Ep16: Plan 99 Honestly, I have no clue. Big conflict, some crazy Bad Batch plan, my only hope is that it requires Crosshair meaning we get him back by then? Hopefully it’s not like a last resort kind of plan meaning bad things are going to happen but I mean this is star wars, I can only expect pain.

Anyway, that was so long I seriously doubt anyone will read all this but if you have any other predictions I’d love to hear them! I always think these are so fun :)

1. how many works?

If we count each franfic fanfic, then easily over twenty. A lot of my fics are half-finished though so if we discount them and the frantic fanfics, then more like 3 or 5? Probably just 1 actually smh

2. total word count?

Uhhh...... Lemme count rq. 1800 on the frantics (not distinguishing between my writing and my friends' writing), and then 7200 from whatevers in the obsidian document I opened. Theres more on scrivener and random sheets of paper, but my laptop is slow and I don't have time to find them all :(

3. what fandoms do u write for?

Twst and Enstars, pretty much. Technically some crossovers with Sam & Max as well!! Ig technically OM as well then

6. fic u wrote with the angstiest ending?

That one fic about Cherio angsting over Trickstar (i think it's on my old laptop and that one's even slower smh. I gotta transfer these things at some point. If I find it, maybe I'll post it!! But it was a mild vent fic)

All of my fics are mildly hopeful (if I finish them) but I liked this one Cherio lore Mally birthday fic I wrote where rat-kun showed up and ate his cake. I could probably post that one, but it doesn't make much sense without the Cherio lore context (which I haven't written down yet :( )

Yeah, from myself (I'm jk, I don't hate my writing)

Teehee :3 Technically, I have. Probably won't do it again, though. Eh, we'll see.

Very, very technically yes though bc I would write fics in class in a secret script and then decode them at home SLKD (but, as I said, that's more decoding than translating)

Lilia Vanrouge x urmom /j Serious answer, idek ;v; Anything that makes Mika or Malleus happy, I suppose! (ShuNaruMika especially). I'd also say anything that makes Lilia happy but you can't really ship him with anyone bc he's so old it'll always be a little weird

15. what's a wip u wanna finish but doubt u will?

Cherio Lore :( I can write a synopsis of it, but I really want to organically present the ideas through typical novel writing as practice before I really write my own stories. Alas, idk what happens in the middle (as always)

16. writing strengths?

Abstract descriptions! I hope, at least. I love writing them!!

17. writing weaknesses?

Dialogue fs. Idk how people talk. Also, sentence variation. I'm a predictable guy and I have my favorite words!!

18. thoughts on dialogue in another language?

The thing is, if it's in a different script to the language you're writing in (for example, English and Japanese), there's not a way for the reader to read it, yk? And idk if there's a way to organically integrate a translation. Even if your reader isn't supposed to know what they're saying, what's the point in including the dialogue in the first place? You can just say they said something in Japanese. Unless it's assumed your reader knows the other language, then it adds some dramatic irony. Ofc, there's gonna be ways you can fit it in well since each situation is different, but I wouldn't add it explicitly in quotations, per se. This is coming from a semi-bilingual language nerd semi-studying to be an editor (aka, don't take it to heart bc I'm not a professional)

Any Lilia angst, tbh. I don't even care for angst why do I always write Lilia angst istg (and it's delicious every time)
