The “mundane modern solutions to arcane supernatural problems” trope gets me every time. Like nothing will ever top the episode of the Magnus Archives where Adelard Dekker looked at a horseman-of-the-apocalypse-style world-ending bringer of pestilence and went, “Well, you can’t end the world if you’re encased in cement.”

What is murderbots and why should I read/listen

The Murderbot Diaries is a sci-fi series by Martha Wells mostly taking place in a dystopian capitalist future. Basically, the viewpoint character is a company-manufactured private security guard rented out to the managers of space! company towns.

After hacking its governor module, nothing much changes about its life for several years until a routine job turns deadly and it's forced to trust a group of humans with its secret in order for any of them to survive.

First paragraph:

I could have become a mass murderer after I hacked my governor module, but then I realized I could access the combined feed of entertainment channels carried on the company satellites. It had been well over 35,000 hours or so since then, with still not much murdering, but probably, I don’t know, a little under 35,000 hours of movies, serials, books, plays, and music consumed. As a heartless killing machine, I was a terrible failure.

Synopsis aside, the books are fast-paced, fun, and hopeful; and Kevin R. Free has great voices for all the characters.

If you liked the Imperial Radch series, speculative sci-fi relevant to our current late-stage capitalism problems, or are a fan of non-human perspective in fiction, Murderbot is for you.

seem to be having a problem with first phase charadrius that just did not happen last time. I have strohl fully buffed, charged, defense fully debuffed, and he literally can't hit more than double digit damage. I didn't see anything come up that indicated he was resisting damage or that strohl was debuffed, and he hadn't swallowed any puppets (strohl hitting for dogshit Caused me to fail a puppet though). did I miss something in the fight that caused this??

#vul plays metaphor #metaphor refantazio spoilers #I used strohl when I did this fight last night too. same setup etc #and I also tried his high crit rate move and that only did 157 dmg despite full buffs/debuffs #and it's only on the mask of ire. he was hitting normal on the other faces when this started happening

Frantically rubbing my magic hands together to pray that this next job I’m trying to move to in the same hospital wants to interview and then hire me. The frantic part comes from uh my current job wants to fire me for (checks notes)… being too sick and disabled.
