Promoting Healthy Eating: Nourishing Bodies and Minds with Food Safety Training
As parents, educators, and community members, we share a collective responsibility to nurture the next generation’s well-being, and can easily provide information and support by just attending food safety training. One crucial aspect of this responsibility lies in ensuring that our children have access to nutritious food during their formative years. Healthy eating habits established early in life not only lead to improved physical health but also support mental development and academic performance. In this blog, we will explore the importance of healthy eating in schools and the initiatives that can be taken to create a nourishing environment for our students.
The Impact of Healthy Eating on Children’s Health with Food Safety Training
The saying, “You are what you eat,” holds true, especially for growing children. Proper nutrition is essential for their overall growth and development. A balanced diet with essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals strengthens their immune system, supports healthy bones and muscles, and improves cognitive function.
Furthermore, promoting healthy eating in schools can help combat the growing concern of childhood obesity. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of obese children and adolescents worldwide has risen tenfold in the past four decades. This alarming trend highlights the need to instil healthy eating habits early on by attending Food Safety Training to prevent obesity-related health issues such as diabetes, heart disease, and joint problems.

People are mainly exposed to methylmercury when they eat fish and shellfish that contain the compound. It can adversely affect a baby’s growing brain and nervous system. The 13th Session of the Codex Committee on Contaminants in Foods in Indonesia in mid-2019 agreed to continue work on the subject and re-establish the electronic working group led by New Zealand and Canada to prepare proposals for maximum levels and sampling plans for additional fish species to be considered in the next meeting. Due to the pandemic, this meeting has been postponed until 2021, so there is an opportunity to build on  findings in a paper submitted by Codex members. New or additional data on lead in commodities such as fruit juice and herbal teas, yoghurt, cheese and milk-based desserts for infants and young children, dry spices, quail eggs, brown sugars and syrup and molasses is wanted. Data should cover the past 10 years and must be submitted by Nov. 21, 2020. #getmyfoodmanageronline #prometric #bacterialgrowth #safefood #healthyfamily #chef #cooking #restaurants #restaurateur #funfacts #juices #smoothies #organic #farmtotable #funlearning #cake #cookies #cupcakes #gourmet #tacos #asiancuisine #baking #onlinefoodsafetytraining #onlinefoodcard #onlinealcohol #onlinehaccp https://www.instagram.com/p/CFh0FMhnvPH/?igshid=9a6nuc6y8xf9

The Mexican state of Oaxaca has banned the sale of junk food and sugary drinks to children in an attempt to reduce high obesity and diabetes levels. Oaxaca is the first state to take the measure in Mexico, which has one of the world's highest rates of childhood obesity. People breaking the law can be fined and have their businesses closed. Re-offenders face jail terms. The move comes as Mexico's number of deaths linked to Covid-19 nears 50,000. Mexico's death toll is the third-highest in the world after the US and Brazil. Experts say being obese or overweight puts you at greater risk of serious illness or death from the virus. #getmyfoodmanageronline #prometric #bacterialgrowth #safefood #healthyfamily #chef #cooking #restaurants #restaurateur #funfacts #juices #smoothies #organic #farmtotable #funlearning #cake #cookies #cupcakes #gourmet #tacos #asiancuisine #baking #onlinefoodsafetytraining #onlinefoodcard #onlinealcohol #onlinehaccp https://www.instagram.com/p/CDuVY69FXvt/?igshid=1lv5anicjru0c

If you’re anything like me, the COVID-19 pandemic has left you with a lot of extra time around the house. For me and many others, this has meant diving into hobbies such as gardening.  Home canning is an excellent way to preserve your garden produce, but if home canning is not done the proper way, your canned vegetables and fruits could cause botulism. Botulism is a rare but potentially deadly illness caused by a poison most commonly produced by a germ called Clostridium botulinum. The germ is found in soil and can survive, grow, and produce a toxin in certain conditions, such as when food is improperly canned. The toxin can affect your nerves, paralyze you, and even cause death. You cannot see, smell, or taste botulinum toxin—but taking even a small taste of food containing this toxin can be deadly. Use proper canning techniques. The best way to prevent foodborne botulism is by carefully following instructions for safe home canning in the USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning.  What is low-acid food? Low-acid foods have a pH level greater than 4.6, which means they are not acidic enough to prevent the growth of botulinum bacteria. Examples are: Asparagus Green beans Beets Corn Potatoes Some tomatoes Figs All meats Fish and seafood Always use a properly sized pressure canner that meets USDA recommendations for pressure canning when canning low-acid foods. Contact your state or county extension service to find out if your pressure canner meets USDA recommendations. #getmyfoodmanageronline #prometric #bacterialgrowth #safefood #healthyfamily #chef #cooking #restaurants #restaurateur #funfacts #juices #smoothies #organic #farmtotable #funlearning #cake #cookies #cupcakes #gourmet #tacos #asiancuisine #baking #onlinefoodsafetytraining #onlinefoodcard #onlinealcohol #onlinehaccp https://www.instagram.com/p/CDhPVmCnMGZ/?igshid=wei4puay5mud

Quality Dairy Company Lansing, Mich= They failed to exclude pests from their food plant to protect against contamination of food. Specifically. The FDA investigators observed the following:  On January 8, 2020, FDA investigators observed five apparent dead German cockroaches: one in the “candy room,” three in the dry storage area approximately six feet away from blue and white sprinkles, and one in the bakery area; one apparent live German cockroach nymph on the wall in the bakery area adjacent to the yeast donut line approximately 12 feet away; apparent rodent excreta pellets in the boiler room; and an apparent dead mouse in the boiler room. On January 13, 2020, FDA investigators observed one apparent live German cockroach nymph crawling on the MDARD Inspector’s white inspection coat. The apparent German cockroach nymph was discovered on her inspection coat immediately after she examined the dry-cleaning process on the yeast donut line. Furthermore, their pest control contractor has historically documented problems with German cockroaches. During the FDA pest control records review FDA found that, between May 16, 2019, and December 20, 2019, their pest control contractor left reports detailing the observation of approximately 47 German cockroaches. The German cockroaches documented by their pest control contractor were found in their entry area, dry storage area, in the bakery area along the donut production lines, and near their mixers. Throughout the inspection, FDA investigators observed flying insects in their facility which were mostly concentrated along the donut lines. Since May 2019, their pest control contractor has documented multiple observations of aquatic flies, gnats, house flies, fruit flies, blow/bottle flies, and green bottle flies. Pest observations were also documented during the FDA’s previous inspection conducted from April #getmyfoodmanageronline #prometric #bacterialgrowth #safefood #healthyfamily #chef #cooking #restaurants #restaurateur #funfacts #juices #smoothies #organic #farmtotable #funlearning #cake #cookies #cupcakes #gourmet #tacos #asiancuisine #baking #onlinefoodsafetytraining #onlinefoodcard #onlinealcohol #onlinehaccp https://www.instagram.com/p/CBMS3wAn8s1/?igshid=3dm2308wntdn

More than 220 people are part of an outbreak in Hong Kong linked to sandwiches. The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health reported 229 people were sick and 45 needed hospital treatment after eating the implicated sandwiches. It was previously reported that 27 people were sick and five needed hospital treatment. The CHP has identified 96 clusters of suspected food poisoning. Among them, stool specimens from 12 sick people and one food sample tested positive for Salmonella. All those affected are now in stable condition. The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD), previously said that while following up on suspected food poisoning involving sandwiches, it was found they were produced by an unlicensed food factory in Hong Kong. #getmyfoodmanageronline #prometric #bacterialgrowth #safefood #healthyfamily #chef #cooking #restaurants #restaurateur #funfacts #juices #smoothies #organic #farmtotable #funlearning #cake #cookies #cupcakes #gourmet #tacos #asiancuisine #baking #onlinefoodsafetytraining #onlinefoodcard #onlinealcohol #onlinehaccp https://www.instagram.com/p/CBJZW5ond-f/?igshid=dblflqt1w9uv

A Salmonella outbreak linked to horse meat from Romania sickened 25 people in France this past year, according to a new report. Eleven cases were men and 14 were women. They ranged from 2 to 90 years of age and the median was 68 years old. In September 2019, the regional unit of Santé Publique France in the Hauts-de-France region was alerted to a spike in Salmonella Bovismorbificans notifications in Nord and Pas-de-Calais during the first two weeks of August, found by the National Reference Center for E. coli, Salmonella and Shigella at Institut Pasteur. The 25 salmonellosis cases, belonging to the same genomic cluster, were identified between Aug. 4 and 26, 2019. Nine people needed hospital treatment and two had severe complications but none died. Hypothesis from patient interviews Twenty people were interviewed. Results of a food survey revealed consumption of chilled raw or undercooked minced (ground) horse meat by 18 of 20 cases questioned in the days before onset of symptoms. No other food was eaten by all those interviewed. Of the two people who did not eat horse meat, one person was infected with a strain having genetic characteristics slightly different from the other cases and the other was sick after eating a Bolognese pizza in a restaurant. Consumption of horse meat has decreased significantly in France in recent decades but most of those who eat it live in Hauts-de-France. Horse meat is mainly imported from Italy, Romania, Poland, the United States or South America despite some domestic production. #getmyfoodmanageronline #prometric #bacterialgrowth #safefood #healthyfamily #chef #cooking #restaurants #restaurateur #funfacts #juices #smoothies #organic #farmtotable #funlearning #cake #cookies #cupcakes #gourmet #tacos #asiancuisine #baking #onlinefoodsafetytraining #onlinefoodcard #onlinealcohol #onlinehaccp https://www.instagram.com/p/B86py5qHQbh/?igshid=xf8f2mp9uqy5

Symptoms Common human coronaviruses Common human coronaviruses, including types 229E, NL63, OC43, and HKU1, usually cause mild to moderate upper-respiratory tract illnesses, like the common cold. Most people get infected with these viruses at some point in their lives. These illnesses usually only last for a short amount of time. Symptoms may include runny nose headache cough sore throat fever a general feeling of being unwell Human coronaviruses can sometimes cause lower-respiratory tract illnesses, such as pneumonia or bronchitis. This is more common in people with cardiopulmonary disease, people with weakened immune systems, infants, and older adults. Other human coronaviruses Two other human coronaviruses, MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV have been known to frequently cause severe symptoms. MERS symptoms usually include fever, cough, and shortness of breath which often progress to pneumonia. About 3 or 4 out of every 10 patients reported with MERS have died. MERS cases continue to occur, primarily in the Arabian Peninsula. SARS symptoms often included fever, chills, and body aches which usually progressed to pneumonia. No human cases of SARS have been reported anywhere in the world since 2004. Diagnosis Your healthcare provider may order laboratory tests on respiratory specimens and serum (part of your blood) to detect human coronaviruses. Laboratory testing is more likely to be used if you have severe disease or are suspected of having MERS. If you are experiencing symptoms, you should tell your healthcare provider about any recent travel or contact with animals. Most MERS-CoV infections have been reported from countries in the Arabian Peninsula. Therefore reporting a travel history or contact with camels or camel products is very important when trying to diagnose MERS. #getmyfoodmanageronline #prometric #bacterialgrowth #safefood #healthyfamily #chef #cooking #restaurants #restaurateur #funfacts #juices #smoothies #organic #farmtotable #funlearning #cake #cookies #cupcakes #gourmet #tacos #asiancuisine #baking #onlinefoodsafetytraining #onlinefoodcard #onlinealcohol #onlinehaccp https://www.instagram.com/p/B7mF5MiF_ye/?igshid=566scr0x26yh

The families of two people who died after being infected with Salmonella have spoken out ahead of an inquest into the deaths. Sandra Blake and Stewart Graham died about the time Public Health England linked a 2018 Salmonella outbreak to items including pork bought at Chapman and Sons in Blackhall Colliery, County Durham. Sandra’s husband, Heath, also fell ill with similar symptoms but survived. Tests later confirmed all three had Salmonella infections. There were 19 confirmed and three suspected patients with Salmonella infections in East Durham and Hartlepool in early 2018. A pre-inquest review hearing into the deaths took place at Teesside Coroner’s Court this week with a date for a full inquest yet to be set. ‘While time may have moved on our family hasn’t’ Heath and Sandra Blake began feeling sick in February 2018 with symptoms including diarrhea. Sandra was seen at home by a general practitioner and admitted to North Tees Hospital in mid-February. She two weeks later at age 68. Heath said Sandra was his best friend and the family still can’t believe she is no longer with them. “It may be almost two years on from her death but we still miss her terribly. What makes it harder is not knowing the full picture as to why she died. While time may have moved on our family hasn’t because of this. We know nothing can ever bring Sandra back but we just want to find out what caused her death and whether anything could have been done to prevent it.” Chapman and Sons has since closed. Criminal charges against the business as well its directors, were dropped earlier this year. #getmyfoodmanageronline #prometric #bacterialgrowth #safefood #healthyfamily #chef #cooking #restaurants #restaurateur #funfacts #juices #smoothies #organic #farmtotable #funlearning #cake #cookies #cupcakes #gourmet #tacos #asiancuisine #baking #onlinefoodsafetytraining #onlinefoodcard #onlinealcohol #onlinehaccp https://www.instagram.com/p/B6RSG89Fg6R/?igshid=125x86u0oasa6
