Sahilde eline aldığı kitaba uzun uzun baktı, artık okuma alışkanlığı da onu yitiriyor gibiydi ama buna izin veremezdi. Açtı, okudu, düşündü, kapattı. Evde yatağının üstünde dalga sesleri dinleyerek kitap okurdu, bu duyguya bayılırdı. Şimdiyse o dalgalar ayaklarına vuruyor, tam karşısında duruyordu. İşte hayallerin gerçek olması bu kadar kolaydı. Hayaller için ayağa kalkıp yola düşmek gerekiyordu. Dağları, tepeleri aşıp denizin kıyısına varmak gerekiyordu. 🐚🌊

Referring specifically to services like BetterHelp where your whole experience is facilitated by a third party, not just seeing your regular therapist over Zoom.

How to manage this: If you do end up choosing to do online therapy, make sure you set up your own boundaries about when to access this because unlike other therapy formats, you can use the room 24/7 to drop thoughts. It doesn’t mean that this will always be good.

Online therapy update: I think this is week three of doing online therapy? This time it's working a lot better than last time. I think last time I was experiencing something much more acute, like I was in need of IMMEDIATE help and a lot more attention, and more frequent sessions that were face to face/ synchronous, even though I'm not a huge fan of talking. This time around it's more about lighter stressors. Like, lmao maybe not 'lighter' stressors, but more like daily stressors is why I'm seeking help. Vs. trying to untangle trauma from experiencing ongoing abuse, which is much more complex because I'm still IN the situation and needed more safety planning, resources, and getting the fuck out.

I understand why many therapists are strictly telehealth now obviously, but it truly ignores a large part of the population. Namely working class folk who either can't get internet that's worth a shit, or (like me) don't have the space for a truly private conversation about their mental health.
I'm also not comfortable with a therapist's ability to protect my privacy online. Services like Better Health have been selling their patient's information, and just because it's anonymized doesn't make it any less disgusting.
Fuck it, guess I get to sacrifice some more of my privacy to be healthy.

What I learned is that therapists lack cultural competency regardless of platform and this lack of training is part of a bigger problem.

Sure, one side effect is that you can’t change your mind or edit what you’re saying without clearly editing what you’re saying, but that’s also the same when you speak. If you mispronounce a word, they’ll hear it instantly.

Maybe they were both right and that in order to get better I had to embrace both positions. Maybe they were wrong. I don’t have the answers. But as someone who is naturally curious, I wanted to know the why behind the theory and the how of applying this theory liberally across cultures.

At Home Based Talking Therapy, our online CBT therapist offers a supportive and convenient way to improve your mental well-being from the comfort of your own home. Through virtual sessions, our therapist uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques to help you manage your thoughts and emotions effectively. We provide a safe and accessible space for personal growth and healing, right where you are.
