Korn and the mystery chess game
(rant ahead)
One of the things that left me completely 'gaping-like-a-fish surprised, confused, whatthefuck, idonttrust anyone' about the last ep was the brilliancy of Korn vs. Karn/Kan/Gun/Vegas dad.
For my part, until Korn woke from dead and Karn told the mom story from his pov...I totally trusted whatever Korn said (in czech you can say sežrala jsem mu to i s navijákem=i ate everything he gave me, even the fishing rod xD).
In the second reenactment of Nampheungs "death", I didn't believe Karn at all. It felt so out of the character to see Karn so distraught and soft and desperate. P'Ex did amazing job though, because even though I didn't believe Karn's overacting, it did start a seed of doubt in me.
With all the abusive shit he put Vegas through, I was 200% ready to kill him and not trust a single word he says. And yet...
Korn's actions seem dubious at best. And while he compels me to trust him with all the talk about protecting Porsche, Chay and mom, his speech has many, MANY, holes in it.
Starting with: "I wanted to protect my nephews."
Are you sure? Really? REALLY?
You did shitty job with Porsche and even shittier job with Vegas. And offering Vegas his 'love' after shooting Karn? Did he really think Vegas would accept his 'fatherly help' (Korn would gain another chess piece, but would he leave the power in his hands? Vegas is to unpredictable for his taste) OR did he expected and wanted Vegas not to accept so his bodyguards could shoot him and Korn would neatly get rid of the competition?
I don't think he predicted Pete though. (I need to rewatch it to confirm but I think Pete's hesitation was a surprise for him)
I like to think that Korn knows Pete good enough to recognize, that even though he was loyal to major family till now, his loyalties have shifted completely towards Vegas. And even though Pete says he'll be always loyal to major family, I think Korn knows it not to be true. I think the moment anyone would move to actually shoot Vegas, Pete would have shot them AND Korn for putting the order. To support my opinion about this, just look at the scene where Vegas is really shot. Pete didn't even hesitate. He Exploded with rage.
So Pete has become another unpredictable volatile person Korn needs to eliminate from the game. But he's still playing, because even though king is defeated, the queen still stands. So he plays the part of a kind boss who looks after his people (remember Pete's 'khun korn is not cruel, give up to him') and ends it with 'look after Vegas'. Maintaining the facade and ensuring, that if it would come to it, Pete would have at least a sliver of doubt in him (same as Kinn) to sway Vegas not to go against him.
The whole ordeal with Porsche's mom...*sigh*
I really don't know what to even think. What is the truth? Where is the truth? What actually happened?
She trully might be in a shock and not remember anything, not responding to anything, but really Porsche, honey, my dumb naive idiot, doesn't it look too weird and suspicious to you?
The not responding part especially freaks me out.
The whole ep ended somewhat happy. Seemingly everyone got happy ending. So why does it leave a disturbing unsettling feelings in me?
As much as I'm gratefull and 'I'll kiss you on the mouth with tongue' ecstatic about the end VegasPeteMacau scene, I wonder if it wasn't there just to lead our minds away from the mistrust and questions from the Actual last scene - the very suspicious Korn's line and most importantly the empty look from Nampheung.
History is indeed written by victors.
Korn has now two chess pieces he can move how he wants and both of them stand on his side now. Kinn is emotionally attached to his father and Porsche is attached to Kinn. He can manipulate the minor family how he wants.
But. But...

So I've calmed a bit since Saturday and now I bring you my most favourite scenes from the last episode of KP:
Porsche hiding in the cupboard to remember what happened
Erika being a BAMF (!!!)
Arm and Tankhun kicking ass Home alone style
Chan smoking a cigarette before death
Kim casually kicking ass
PorscheKinn vs Gun in the garage
"I'm hungry"
"If I'm gonna die, can it be you who kills me?" (then proceeds trying to do it himself, dumbass)
VegasPeteMacau family supremacy (!!!)
that one bodyguard who politely stepped out of the way, when Tankhun's toycar arrived to blow them up (you will be remembered, sir)

Akk is not his true self in school and even though he's more relaxed with his parents, he's still not 100% himself at home either.
Ayan saw Akk in his safe space: among friends, in a space he's comfortable in, and is confused when this version of Akk doesn't continue to make appearance in school.
"Are you avoiding me?"
He got so quickly used to seeing Akk smile and joke with his friends, hug his parents, make fun of his school, letting down his guard in their private moments, that he forgot, that prefect Akk doesn't have the privilege to be like this.
Prefect Akk belongs to school, to rules, (to Chadok, brrr), to the mask Akk has to wear to reach a life where he can finally be himself, free.
Prefect Akk makes one wrong move and the real Akk can never be free again. Everything, most importantly his future, depends on how well can Akk hide his real self, how well can he play the role of the curse. Yes he has moral dilemmas, but a person desperate to get rid of his shackles is willing to do almost anything, even if that means stepping on heads of others.
(And yes, I have indeed lost my train of thought)

Jeffrey Epstein’s brother lists the evidence he claims feds are covering up about pedophile’s death
Despite being the most high-profile prisoner in the US, Jeffrey Epstein was found dead in federal custody at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York on August 10, 2019.#Epstein #EpsteinList #Epsteinadasi #EpsteinClientList EpsteinIsland EpsteinFiles EpsteinDocs
https://nypost.com/2024/01/09/news/jeffrey-epsteins-brother-claims-feds-covering-up-death-evidence/
The financier, awaiting trial on charges of sex-trafficking underage girls, was found in his cell just after 6:30 a.m., having apparently used a length of orange bedsheet tied to the cell’s bunk bed to hang himself.
Throughout the previous night, cameras in the Secure Housing Unit where Epstein was being held weren’t recording, prison guards slept and Epstein was left without a cellmate despite prison psychologists’ direct orders.
Then-Attorney General Bill Barr would later call the situation a “perfect storm of screw-ups.”
Within a week, a medical examiner had ruled the death a suicide, meaning no further investigation was required. Eventually, a 128-page report was produced by the Department of Justice which concluded prison staff made errors and blamed “long-standing operational challenges” for Epstein’s death.
However, some have consistently challenged the official version of events, including Epstein’s brother, Mark, 69, who is campaigning for more information to be made public — including video from the cell block.
I only want to look at facts, but when we consider the facts available, we get more questions,” the property developer told The Post.
“There appears to have been no investigation once it was ruled a suicide, they saw no reason to dig deeper.
“It seems like a cover-up. Why can’t I find his pre-hospital care report and why can’t I get the 911 call?”
Follow along with everything we’ve found out about Jeffrey Epstein and his associates.
The following is a compilation of publicly available information about Epstein’s death as well as findings from Mark’s four-year investigation:
The autopsy
Two medical examiners were present for Epstein’s autopsy, Dr. Kristin Roman and Dr. Michael Baden. The latter was sent by Mark to independently oversee the procedure.
They agreed to list the manner of death as “pending,” saying further investigation was required.
That was overruled a week later by New York Chief Medical Examiner Barbara Samson, who changed it to suicide.
Samson said she had seen “additional evidence,” but has never said what that evidence was.
Baden said Epstein had two breaks on each side of his thyroid cartilage near his Adam’s apple, and one above it on the left side of his hyoid bone, which were “extremely unusual in suicidal hangings” and “could occur much more commonly in homicidal strangulation.”
Baden added: “I’ve not seen in 50 years where that occurred in a suicidal hanging case.”
In addition, no photo was taken of the position of Epstein’s body when he was found — which multiple medical examiners have agreed is a key piece of evidence in determining exactly how he died.
Autopsy photos show the marks on Epstein’s throat from the ligature were in the middle to lower portion of the neck, and straight, not raised and pointing toward the side and back of the throat in a way more consistent with hanging.
Epstein’s cell
The Department of Justice’s investigation into Epstein’s death says he was found “suspended from the top bunk in a near-seated position, with his buttocks approximately 1 inch to 1 inch and a half off the floor” and his legs in front of him.
This means most of his bodyweight was hanging on the ligature around his neck.
The guard who found him, Michael Thomas, claimed both that he ripped the sheet and that he cut it, then began chest compressions until prison medics arrived.
Two nooses were found in the cell, according to the CBS show “60 Minutes.”
The noose taken as evidence was not the one the prison guard ripped or cut from Epstein’s body.
The submitted and photographed noose was a whole piece of cloth with a hemmed edge and no staining or fluids, despite allegedly being around Epstein’s neck when he died.
In photos of Epstein’s cell, his sleep apnea machine can be seen — which Mark points out has an electrical cord that would have been easier to use to hang himself than a sheet.
Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who attended the scene were not interviewed, which is standard protocol in such cases.
Especially in high-profile cases, EMTs and hospital staff are interviewed by police, but in this case, none were. In addition, a pre-hospital care report for Epstein “can’t be found,” according to hospital staff.
The autopsy showed Epstein was dead for at least two hours before he was found, and possibly up to six hours.
However, despite clearly being deceased, he was transferred to a hospital and placed in a hospital gown on a gurney.
Meanwhile, the 911 call made from the prison and its contents have also never been released.
Inmates and evidence
On July 23, while Epstein was in jail, guards were called to the cell he shared with former cop and now-convicted killer of four Nicholas Tartaglione due to an incident in which he had sustained neck injuries.
Following the incident, Epstein told prison staff he had been attacked by his cellmate. He later said he “did not remember” how he got the injuries and refused to speak further about it.
After the incident, on July 30, the prison psychology department said Epstein must have a cellmate at all times and was to be monitored.
The new cellmate, Efrain “Stone” Reyes, was assigned but transferred out of MCC to another facility less than 24 hours before Epstein’s death.
Reyes told his family Epstein seemed “depressed” and “didn’t want to live anymore,” according to the New York Daily News, which also quoted another inmate who said Epstein “was saying he’s going to kill himself because the government is trying to kill him anyway.”
Video evidence from the night of Epstein’s death was “limited.”
According to the Department for Justice’s investigation, “Recorded video evidence for Aug. 9 and 10 for the SHU area where Epstein was housed was only available from one prison security camera due to a malfunction of MCC New York’s Digital Video Recorder system.”
However, it also notes that “between approximately 10:40 p.m. on August 9 and about 6:30 a.m. on August 10, no one was seen entering Epstein’s cell tier from the SHU common area.”
Despite Freedom of Information Act requests being filed, the footage from the working camera, particularly showing when Epstein’s body was removed from the tier in the morning, has never been released to the public.
Sleeping guards
Prison guards Tova Noel and Michael Thomas were stationed 15 feet from Epstein’s cell.
However, they fell asleep and did not check on prisoners in the Secure Housing Unit at all on August 9, the night Epstein died.
They later admitted to falsifying records that said they had completed the checks.
Both were federally indicted, but struck a deal whereby, in exchange for admitting their guilt and cooperating with the federal probe into Epstein’s death, the charges were dropped.
Neither has ever spoken publicly about Epstein or what happened that night.
The indictment against the officers also lists the presence of two other prison guards, “Officer-1” and “Officer-2,” who were also on duty during at least part of their shift and were supposed to accompany Noel on her rounds. Their identities have never been released.
Mark says he has nothing to gain from his brother’s death, was not a part of his will and has incurred legal fees and had to spend money to protect his family since 2019.
“They had a hearing which was coming up a few days after his death to appeal the bail restrictions … why would Jeffrey kill himself a few days before that hearing? Because if he got bail, he’d be out of jail, awaiting trial in his house with an ankle monitor,” he told investigative journalist Declan Hill on his “Crimewaves” podcast.
“Why kill yourself then? If bail was denied again, then I could understand it.
“Believe me, it would have been easier if [the pathologists] had come out and said, ‘It looks like a suicide,’ then I could put this whole issue behind me,” he added.

Today I've rewatched the 3rd Naruto Shippuden movie ("The Will of Fire" or whatever is its name) out of nostalgia and because I consider it a "comfort movie" of mine, despite being a not-so-good one
Anyway, since I'm obsessed with re-reading or rewatching any scene having some good Sannin content in this goddamn series, I got "slightly mad" realising that actually there's more filler content than actual canon one...
Like, in this movie the antagonist is called Hiruko, who also was a childhood friend of the trio. He talks about always having bad health and not being as powerful as the Sannin, even during their childhood days. So he admired them and wanted to be like them, but also felt kind of jealous he could never reach them, physically speaking. And eventually, he went for the "forbidden Jutsu" way, made illegal experiments, actually ruined his body, but almost reached (by the end of the movie) his goal of having the perfect, most powerful body ever.
Now, the fact that this mad lad was introduced in a filler movie gets on my nerves because it could have been cool to have the whole story of Hiruko as canon, for two main reasons:
As I said, the lack of canon Sannin content is absurd, even regarding their relationship with other people (famous and not) during their childhood/teenhood/early adulthood
Hiruko thought a bit too much like Orochimaru and I can see them being best friends because of their interest obsession for forbidden jutsus and "thirst" for more and more power [one thing I've found pretty funny while rewatching the movie was the fact that Hiruko presumably was like... an addition in Team Hiruzen and while he narrates his backstory, at some point there's this scene in which teen Jira-Oro-Tsuna reach his secret lab (where he was conducting an experiment) because, apparently, Hiruzen ordered to kill him and they went there to hunt him down but he escaped, of course, lol AND IT MAKES ME LAUGH SO FUCKING HARD THAT OROCHIMARU WILLINGLY WENT THERE TO HUNT DOWN SOMEONE WHO COULD HAVE BEEN HIS "ILLEGAL EXPERIMENTS" BESTIE WITH A SHOCKED FACE WHEN THEY REACHED THE LAB LIKE-
Tumblr media
OROCHI MY BRO WHY ARE YOU SO SHOCKED? YOU'RE DOING GONNA DO THE SAME SHIT IF NOT WORSE💀 anyway, if this shit was canon, canonically Hiruzen would be that sensei who let NOT JUST ONE, BUT TWO ABSOLUTE MAD UNETHICAL SCIENTISTS ESCAPE HIS FREAKING VILLAGE!]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just to end this """"rant"""", we really need Kishimoto to at least write down some new canon content regarding the Sannin past (both as a team and as individuals). Like, really, a novel would be fine! I've kept repeating this for years now but I WANT something that isn't just lil' flashback panels thrown here and there in the manga only for the SP staff to use them as blueprints for... like... two whole half-canon-half-filler episodes (ep. 127-128 I'm looking right at you)
I know we can rely on some good fucking fan content because the Sannin fandom out there is filled with talented people (writers, artists...). I don't consider myself as a good "content creator", but I enjoy to put my love for this team of old, fucked-up shinobi on a piece of paper with my stupid pencil... But the point is, we're all linked by the distress we feel for the lack of *inhales* GODDAMN CANON CONTENT FROM THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR HIMSELF.
Literally sometimes I think Kishimoto just created them out of a fever dream, only to put them aside in the darkest corner of his mind when he noticed he hasn't thought about anything else for their story... even in "Boruto" it looks as if he wants to put them in the plot, somehow, but most of the time he doesn't know HOW and that's sad. Tremendously sad.
2010′s Cartoons Trope List
The 2010’s were undoubtedly an iconic decade for animation, with some of the best cartoons ever being made in the decade. As a big fan of cartoons, I - along with many others - noticed how there happened to be many recurrences among these cartoons. So I thought I go and compile a list showing some of the features I noticed, along with cartoons that have show features.
(NOTE: I’ma only feature cartoons that I either have watched or know bits and pieces about.)
-Prevalence of the Bildungsroman: a German term used to describe stories that focus on the maturation and growth of the young main character. In 2010’s cartoons these characters start off in the series as goofy and aloof and become more serious and mature as the show progresses.
Steven Universe (Steven), Adventure Time (Finn), SVTFOE (Star), OK K.O.! (K.O).
-Definitely Dark Moments: just about every major cartoon in the 2010’s had not only a couple dark moments in their duration but often many.
In just about the entirety of Rick and Morty, Steven Universe (gem mutants, So Many Birthdays, and Pearl getting stabbed on-screen), Gravity Falls (demonic possession and the fucking bleeding taxidermy animals in Northwest Mansion Mystery), Legend of Korra (Korra’s torture scene and two suicides), Over the Garden Wall (the whole show being a metaphor for purgatory), Adventure Time (that damn episode with the deer), SVTFOE (every time the lizard villain grows his flesh back). Also legit apocalyptic scenarios showing up at least once in every show (Weirdmageddon, the Cluster, reuniting Earth with the Spirit Realm).
—Darker Progression of the Series: as the show progresses it gradually transitions from a mostly light-hearted show to one frequently adorned with some pretty dark moments.
Gravity Falls (fighting gnomes in ep 1 vs fighting apocalyptic forces in ep 40), Steven Universe (ice cream powers in ep 1 vs taking the blame for your ma’s war crimes in ep 128).
-Deeply Depressing Moments: cartoons of the 2010’s weren’t afraid to gut punch you emotionally. A lot. Hard.
Steven Universe (Rose’s Scabbard and Steven’s identity crisis/Atlas Personality/emotional baggage/weight of expectations/somebody get this boy a therapist), Gravity Falls (Old Man McGucket’s mind being lost and Stan’s amnesia), Adventure Time (The Ice King’s mind also being lost and Fern’s death), Rick and Morty (Rick’s attempted suicide), Bojack Horseman (Sarah Lynn’s final moments), OTGW (Greg almost getting turned into an edelwood tree), Legend of Korra (Korra’s PTSD).
-Many Mature Moments: a lotta moments in cartoons of the decade have some real mature themes in them.
Steven Universe (toxic relationships, mental illness, genocide, and overcoming obsession, codependence, and weakness), Adventure Time (The Ice King being an allegory for people with Alzheimers), Gravity Falls (the importance of trust and knowing what true manliness is), Bojack Horseman (living with depression), Rick and Morty (nihilism and the indifference of the universe), Legend of Korra (anarchism and communism).
-Insane Intricacies: a good deal of cartoons have a lot of depth and complexity to their stories and their characters.
Steven Universe (hints that RQ=PD from the very first episode with the Cookie Cat design, a whole damn bunch of other foreshadowing, character instrumentation, and flower symbolism), Gravity Falls (the massive mystery element of the show, Bill Cipher being shown in episode one in the window pane design), OTGW (on god there are so many things in this miniseries that people miss, like Beatrice and the bluejay she threw the rock at being shown in the very first moments of the show), Adventure Time (the background storytelling in episodes like Bonnibel Bubblegum), TAWOG (extremely sharp and witty writing).
-CalArts Animation: a signature animation element of the 2010’s, characterized by large heart-shaped heads, wide smiles, big eyes with colorless pupils, and noodle limbs.
Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, TAWOG, SVTFOE
-Stunning Scenery: the backgrounds of many shows often look absolutely gorgeous.
Steven Universe (stunning pastel skies and oceans), Gravity Falls (the Oregonian forests look like a design for a postcard), Adventure Time (little hints of pre-apocalyptic objects scattered all through the background), TAWOG (real life backgrounds contrasting with the insane variety of animated characters), Hilda (Trollburg’s urban fantasy).
-Hella Fine Music: a couple 2010’s shows have some genuinely amazing musical scores in them.
Steven Universe (extended version of Love Like You, It’s Over, Isn’t It?, the chiptune, and sonorous background music like Lapis’ Tower), Gravity Falls (Intro Song), Infinity Train (Running Away), OTGW (Into the Unknown), Adventure Time (Everything Stays, I Remember You, Come Along With Me).
-Lore Galore: several 2010’s cartoons build up a deep and complex lore that slowly reveals itself as the show progresses.
Adventure Time (Great Mushroom War), Steven Universe (The Diamond Authority and the Rebellion), Gravity Falls (unraveling the mysteries of the town), OTGW (The Beast), SVTFOE (the Mewni vs the Monsters).
-The Gays™: the decade was the first to have prominent LGBTQ characters in their cartoons, especially in kids’ shows.
Almost the entire main cast of Steven Universe, The Loud House (Luna and Sam), OK K.O! (Enid and Red Action), Voltron (there’s two gay guys in there that I heard of), She-Ra (those two black guys), Legend of Korra (Korra and Asami), Craig of the Creek (them two goth lesbians).
No doubt this past decade had some of the most iconic Western animated shows of all time, and I’m damn pumped to see what the 2020′s have in store for us all.
A few things (unnecessary rambling)
Anime I’ve been watching lately:
Bakemonogatari  (6/15 ep)
Tumblr media
I commend this series for setting itself apart from the rest with its weird Shaft (studio) way of animation. That means a drastic colour palette and style (don’t know how else to describe it), head tilts, and a ton of flashing montages with words. It’s very questionable at times (in terms of morals, the way it appeals to the male otaku base, and the general direction of their characters). I’m not sure how far I’m going to make it with this series. I know it’s popular, has a weird wacky cast of characters, and great performances from all the voice actors involved, but it’s definitely not a “gateway” type of anime. It’s really strange, but it’s also counted as “staple” (a reference to the main girl holding the pencil) in some of the anime community. I might write something more extensive about it later.
Bungou Stray Dogs 3rd Season (7/12)
Tumblr media
This series isn’t “the best” from a critic’s standpoint, but this series is an homage to old authors and puts them in an anime. I don’t read, but I really enjoy the show. I’m going to stop here before I go on about this series. I even run @awkwardbsd.
Dororo (2/24)
Tumblr media
They got a kid! To play the kid! Okay, they’re not really a kid. They’re 13. Great animation so far. MAPPA previously worked on a ton of other good things like Yuri on Ice (which was a collab if I remember correctly). The OP reminds me of American Pop music (far different from your usual anime song). The old art style has evolved so much, yet they still pay homage to the old style in some of the sequences. It’s nice.
Gintama (69/201)
Tumblr media
It doesn’t always hit, but when it does, it hits hard (the humour I mean). It’s weird, vulgar, and a bit out there, but it’s regarded as a classic in Japan and recently gathered popularity overseas.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (9/26)
Tumblr media
I usually have to watch this when it’s light outside. Kudos to Soichiro Hoshi, Satsuki Yukino, Yukari Tamura, and Mai Nakahara for their performances. This is definitely not your average horror anime. I think episode 8 was definitely the first episode that really scared me. Shion and Mion... they really ended that one on a bit of a cliffhanger.
Kimetsu no Yaiba (3/26)
Tumblr media
This feels a little like Dororo but with a far more “Shonen Jump” way of doing things which involves humour, our young boy seeming a bit older in the anime, and him trying hard while looking like a goof. It was cliche, but it was cliche done right.
Sarazanmai (7/11)
Tumblr media
I feel like I wouldn’t be watching this if it wasn’t for Ikuhara, the seiyuu, and this being a hyped seasonal anime. It’s okay story-wise. It’s really strange. It’s pretty alright and doesn’t feel like a complete waste of time. And that latest scene with Mamo and Hosoya was pretty good if it wasn’t for the fact that I swear I’ve watched both of them act in angsty roles at least 3 times each.
Senryuu Shoujo (7/12)
Tumblr media
It’s plain, it’s ordinary, it appeals to guys who want a plain kind of romance that’s pure while still... appealing I guess. That’s what I get. It’s a poem nerd who falls in love with a former delinquent-kind of guy. She talks in poems. Definitely doesn’t stack up to Kaguya from last season.
Kyousou Giga (1/10)
Tumblr media
This is a really strange story which is kind of on-hold because of how much it seems to have it out for forgetful people like me. They name their characters the same names (okay, they differ in kanji/katakana/hiragana, but I don’t read and that’s only for Japanese people). Besides that, it’s a promising show so far.
The hate anons have slowed. I’m still not happy about the response of the OP saying that I kind of *indirectly* brought it upon myself and wasn’t getting that much hate. I found it to be irresponsible, arrogant, and a lack of moral integrity.
I’ve been typing this with a blistered finger! I had to take a two-week break from bass due to the doctor’s orders post-surgery (nothing serious, just an adenoidectomy). Because of that, I guess my fingers are now wimps on my double bass. I play classical. I was doing a ton of repetitive technique stuff. My finger starts to blister and has one of those bubbles. It hurts, but I persist. I keep going and repeat the exercise around 5-10 times. I go to my study (basically an exercise piece). I do that for about a page of music. I feel it growing in pain, but I’m no wimp. I keep going. I go to my repertoire and suddenly, my hand just slips. I look and see a smear mark. I look at my hand, and it was obliterated. RIP. Here’s to modified typing which got me through this post.
I need to get my hair cut. It’s so fricking long, but I’ve been in hiding from the barber for around 3 years? I don’t wanna go. I’m very sensitive tactile-wise. They always go, “Are you okay?” No. No, I’m not. Oof. I gotta do this eventually.
Proverbs from Episodes 101-138
Ep 101: “There’s no harm in trying” really depends on what you’re trying. Either way, give it a go - it’s probably fine.
Ep 102: Live every day like it’s your first.
Ep 103: If you’re not wearing a denim vest, then this conversation is over.
Ep 104: A million dollars isn’t a sandwich. You know what’s a sandwich? A taco.
Ep 105: “You are what you eat.” That’s very confusing phrasing. Let me simplify: You consume your own flesh. Much clearer.
Ep 106: Good thing to those who wait. Good things come slithering down the unctuous brown stone wall to those who wait alone in the dark pit.
Ep 107: Top o’ the mornin’ to you, the rest of the day to me; I never said this was fair.
Ep 108: You’ll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, but you’ll catch even more with a corpse of some sort.
Ep 109: Less is more. Simplification is the way to happiness. You are not your things. Anyway, thanks for your wallet! Bye~!
Ep 110: If you only read one book this year, then you have reached your approved book quota.
Ep 111: There is no proof you exist, only evidence.
Ep 112: Be yourself… as if you had any choice in the matter.
Ep 113: Follow your heart; you need it. Where did it ever learn to walk?
Ep 114: The seven habits of highly effective people are; 1. Levitation 2. Translucence 3. Omnipresence 4. Country music 5. Lime zest 6. Suns for eyes 7. Hiccups
Ep 115: Pull this lever. Don’t worry, you will never know the result. There will be a result.
Ep 116: We are all (an elite few) in this (a secret underground emergency bunker) together (on our own without public knowledge).
Ep 117: People always say “before I die” as if they haven’t already begun the process.
Ep 118: Why would you wanna think outside the box? The box is steel, and locked, and buried deeply underground. It’s so safe here. Why would you want to leave?
Ep 119: For softer bones and a tenuous smile, drink malk. Got mock? It’s here. Drink it. ([high-pitched] Drink it.) Drink this muelk. Mmmm. (Garbled noise). ([high-pitched, again] Drink it.)
Ep 120: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, now you’re just being an asshole.
Ep 121: Welcome to 2018. The year we finally do it. The year we eat the sun.
Ep 122: I’m going to give you a piece of my mind! It’s in this clay jar. Keep it in a cool, dark place, and away from cats.
Ep 123: We regret to inform you that this entire podcast series has been viral marketing for Dippin’ Dots. We don’t think we made that obvious enough and we’re panicking a little. Please tell someone to try Dippin’ Dots today. We are going to be in so much trouble.
Ep 124: Bite your tongue. Fun, right?
Ep 125: I believe in tough love. Also, tough tenderness, tough vulnerability, and a daily session of tough mindfulness meditation.
Ep 126: Pick a company and invest all your money in it. The absolute worst that could happen is that you lose every cent, and it would be terrifying and life-changing. So give it a shot.
Ep 127: Hey, what’s your sign? Mine’s a stop sign; I stole it from an intersection, and I hold it up every time someone tries to talk to me.
Ep 128: Our money back guarantee: when you die, the world gets your money back.
Ep 129: My name for the pony I have been planning to get one day has been ‘Ponye West’, for years, but for obvious reasons I have recently changed it to 'Janelle PoNeigh’. This wasn’t written for me by Joseph, these are the actual names I’ve made up for my dream pony.
Ep 130: Anything is a piñata if you hit it hard enough.
Ep 131: Keep your eye on the ball. Keep your lungs on the court. Leave your stomach in the locker room.
Ep 132: Live every moment as if it were just one of the two and a half billion moments you have in your life. Seriously, pace yourself.
Ep 133: [Earl Version] This one weird trick doesn’t seem to have any real purpose. But maybe give it a try anyway.
[Leann Version]  True change starts with the person in the mirror. He’s standing far behind you, barely visible. He’s really going to change things.
[Telly Version]  How do I love thee? Let me tally up all the points I’ve assigned to your personal value with respect to my needs.
Ep 134: Dress for the job you want, sports team mascot. Not the job you have, customer service manager.
Ep 135: On second thought, a million dollars is pretty cool. Finger guns to you a million dollars.
Ep 136: Girl, did you fall from heaven? Cause there is a crater where you landed and radiation levels are spiking.
Ep 137: Kangaroos are deer, abbreviated.
Ep 138: If you circle the letters in the bible just right, you get the phrase “lightly dressed kale”, so I don’t know what that means but it’s direct from God.
Faye’s last Canto album completed 18 years later (2015)
In 12 years, Faye Wong has not released a full-length album, but from time to time she will sing movie theme songs. Many fans still hope and wait to hear Faye’s new full-length album. Although at this stage, chances are slim.
Recently, China’s Chaotic Silence music label put together a Cantonese album, a complete collection of 1997 songs on one album called “Be Perfunctory”.  This is not a new album. The Cantonese songs were recorded in 1997 under Cinepoly Records. But because Faye left to join a new record company, Cinepoly split the album into two EP’s <Toy> and <Help Yourself>.
Although this is not a new album, the past singles “Promise”, “Toy”, “Undercurrent” and so on were assembled to make a complete concept album. Can feel the consistency of the track arrangements and the lyrics by Lin Xi are unified. Arrangements by Adrian Chan bring a British psychedelic aesthetic to five songs. Faye’s music is full of dream pop and dark trip hop.
The album cover and inside pages are reproduced images by Japanese photographer Fujishiro.
Album is available for order exclusively on Chaotic Silence, priced at 128 yuan. The album is expected to release 11/13.
Fan spends 1 million yuan to release Faye Wong’s album
The cover art of Faye Wong’s “new” album.
How crazy and capable can one fan  be? A Chinese fan recently spent his own money, amounting to a stunning  one million yuan (US$157,300), to release an album for his idol Faye  Wong.
The pop diva hasn’t released a studio  album in more than a decade except for several hit movie theme songs.  However, one of her fans found a way to release a new album for her by  collecting 10 of her lost old songs with nods from Wong’s management and  record label.
Xie Qi, a 19-year-old fan, compiled the  album and raised one million yuan from his parents and other interested  investors for the project. He is currently a student studying in Canada,  but he even started a company called Restless Music to do the project.
The 10 songs, sung in Cantonese, were  recorded in 1996 at Hong Kong-based Cinepoly Records and were going to  be released as one intact album. At that time, Wong was going to end the  contract with Cinepoly and would be moving to her new label EMI. In  1997, when EMI was putting out Wong’s new album “Faye Wong,” Cinepoly  had to rival the release by dividing the last 10 new songs submitted to  them by Wong into two EPs (every EP includes 4 new songs) and they  included two other new songs in greatest hits albums.
The album was never released in full but  was dismembered in pieces, which made fans feel disappointed for years.  Thanks to Xie’s efforts, the new album “Be Perfunctory” will be  released on Nov. 13, which pieced the original album together.
Xie got the publishing rights from  Cinepoly, now under Universal Music Group, and approval from Wong’s  management, which made the album authentic rather than a bootleg. Though  Wong’s representatives didn’t want this album to be released again,  they were persuaded by Cinepoly Records and the sincerity of Xie.
The youngster also discussed the  tracklist order and promotional materials including the title of the  album with the record label and Wong’s representatives. He even  contacted famous Japanese photographer Meisa Fujishiro for rare photos  of Wong during the time of the record’s original recording, when she did  a photo shoot for Japan’s Switch Magazine. The photos are rare given  the fact that Wong didn’t take many photos during the time that she was  pregnant.
The album will only be released in Hong  Kong due to the restriction of publishing rights. Xie said to the media  recently that at least 100,000 copies have been sold during the presale phase.
Previously Unreleased Faye Wong Album "Be Perfunctory" To Be Released
After 12 years without a new album, Faye Wong's previously unreleased album "Be Perfunctory" will be released on November 22.
The new album was originally recorded in 1996 and was set to be released in 1997 as her 10th Cantonese studio album. However, after getting pregnant in 1996 and having her first child in 1997, her label at the time, Cineploy, decided to scrap its release. The singer then signed to a new label, EMI, before the album was released.
Earlier this year, a 19-year-old fan named Xie Qi raised 1 million yuan from his parents and other fans to buy the rights to the album. He worked with Cineploy and Wong's management to release the album in its original form.
The promotional images used for the album, including its cover, were taken by Japanese photographer Meisa Fujishiro. The photos were shot for "Switch" magazine around the time that album was supposed to be released, adding a level of authenticity to the album's release.
"Be Perfunctory" will be Wong's first new album in 12 years. Her last album, "To Love", was released on November 7, 2003. Since then, the singer has released the occasional single, but remains largely inactive within the music industry.
Episode 128 : Crystalline Carbon
"...as long as I'm alive, I will make it."
- Kim Stephens
It's been a subdued start to the year in the main, and my equipment may have conspired against me, but nothing was getting in the way of the first podcast episode of the decade! There are definitely some popular classics in the selection, right next to brand new releases, and some slightly older tracks which deserve a second - or even first - chance in your headphones.
Playlist/Notes
Roc Marciano : Richard Gear
Roc is the absolute master of this style, and he's back with a new LP release, "Marcielago". If you like this vibe, then you're in for a treat as he carries it over the whole project. It's easy to forget that he's not just penning all those rhymes, but producing the beats as well. He's self-taught and beautifully individual in approach - a leader, not a follower.
[Alchemist] Mobb Deep : The Realest (Instrumental)
One of the most straightforward beats in Al's career - a two-bar loop with nothing added. It was originally going to be an interlude on the Defari "Focused Daily" album, but eventually became a standout on Mobb Deep's "Murda Muzik". This exact instrumental version is on the now-deleted "Gangster Theme Music" collection, but you could pretty much just loop up the start of the Mobb track :)
Trae Tha Truth : Even Tho Its Hard (sic)
A fairly recent release from Trae, taken from his eleventh album, "Exhale". This is a real struggle anthem, voiced by a man whose mic skills are too often overlooked. This is bell-clear rhyming, where you can pick out every single word - aided by the production not fighting him too much for focus. (Once again, this is a case where my digital purchase doesn't contain the credits to enable me to shout out the producer. Fix it, record companies!)
O.C. : The Chosen One
It's been a little while - well over four years - since we visited the "Jewelz" album, so it's about time we came back. Buckwild brings together the jazz and soul to craft the beat on this one, and O.C. strides over it like a king surveying his subjects. The whole album was criminally underrated when it came out, with many just expecting a re-tread of the "Time's Up" sound. A lot went into making it, and it took many listeners a while to catch up - but they did!
Flamingosis : You Were Meant For Me
A nice little piece from a New Jersey producer whose catalogue has a certain sunniness that you just have to listen to understand! Pick up the "Flight Fantastic" album and keep it in the stash until warmer weather arrives...
Statik Selektah & Termanology ft. Mtume : Never Let My City Down
Yes, Mtume of "Juicy Fruit" fame! The "Still 1982" LP from Statik and Term contained this little gem, where I'm not sure exactly who did what apart from the rhymes, but it works. Termanology's flow glides over this with confidence, and even the way the track winds down is expertly done.
9th Wonder : SuperChopFunk!!!!
Yes, all those exclamation points are part of the actual track title... Anyway, the beat is signature 9th Wonder material, drawn from his mostly-instrumental "Zion III" mixtape. With forty-two tracks in total, you can't say he didn't give you value for money!
Krumbsnatcha : Start Writing
I found this while having a flick through Spotify, and was glad I did! The "Iron Will Ninja Shinobi" album came out about a year ago, and it's good to see Krumb out there and still recording. The beat here is dark and menacing, sounding like a Hip-Hop contribution to the "The Terminator" soundtrack, and KS has no trouble matching that vibe on the mic.
David Bars ft. DJ Premier : Beat The Odds
If you don't know him already, it feels like you will pretty soon! Bronx native Bars getting co-signs from some of the best producers to ever do it - DITC, Beatminerz, and DJ Premier, who gave him this beat to rip! "The Bar Code" EP is the release to check to get a fuller picture of what Bars is bringing.
Meyhem Lauren ft. Big Body Bes : Badmon Ting
That "¡Caballito!" adlib will never fail to be amusing! Meyhem is not so much underrated as not well-enough known in my opinion, but he's a beast of an MC. "Gucci kicks got me looking like a pointsettia"? Come on now. Find this DJ Farhot produced track on the 2017 "Piatto D'Oro" album, named after a now-closed NYC restaurant - Meyhem does love the kitchen!
Natural Elements : N.E. Definitely
One of the great crews for the connoisseurs, NE were true kings of the underground right off the bat. Charlemagne provided the beats and L-Swift, A-Butta, and Mr.Voodoo brought bars by the trailerload! Many of the tracks from that era have been collected on the recently-released "1999 : 20 Year Anniversary" collection, of which this is one. Definite recommendation for those who like that real.
[Ali Shaheed Muhammad] Faith Evans : You Used To Love Me (Remix Instrumental)
I was happy to realise I hadn't already used this instrumental on a past episode! This neo-souled-out beat gave Faith's voice more space than the original from her debut album, which was dope in its own right.
Robert Glasper Experiment ft. Brandy : What Are We Doing?
One of the best tracks on the excellent "Black Radio 2", easily. The drummer pushes this one forward constantly, playing a little ahead of the beat as though not completely under control, and the bass and keys fill in a track that would tear down any after-hours spot. And those vocals...you might just write Brandy off as some pop artist because you know her radio singles, but you'd be very wrong. This is a track with the space to expose anyone lacking skills, and she slays it. Recognise!
Children of Zeus : Get What's Yours
New release from Manchester's own Children of Zeus, who are on a flawless run right now. A soulful motivational cut that opens up with the vocals of Tyler Daley before he goes back and forth with Konny Kon on the rhymes. The closing vocals and piano (if you go and hear the full version) round it off exquisitely. Get this on the "Two Syllables, Volume Sixteen" compilation.
Lauryn Hill : Lost Ones
The drums of the Zeus track reminded me of this, so I figured there was probably no better time for me to play it! For me, it's a battle between this and "Everything Is Everything" for best track on the only real Lauryn solo LP, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" - a monster seller for sure. By all accounts firing shots at Wyclef, you can feel the focused anger in this one.
Kool G Rap : My Life
This was a pretty big single from the Rawkus Records part of G Rap's career, which made noise on the 2002 Hip-Hop charts as well as being a mixtape staple of the time. V.I.C (from the original Beatnuts producer crew) brings the beat, and an artist called G-Wise shows out on the talkbox. The official release of "The Giancana Story" album contains this one, as well as an alternate version featuring Capone-N-Noreaga.
Pete Rock : Stop Dat (Instrumental)
Sparse mastery from Soul Brother #1. The most recent release of the 2004 Edo G and Pete Rock LP "My Own Worst Enemy" helpfully contains all the instrumentals for when you want some unfiltered PR, and so is a recommended pickup for DJs at a minimum.
Raekwon ft. Kim Stephens : Jury
Allegedly, this track is actually supposed to be called "Jewelry", but for a typo in the tracklisting! We close the episode with a second track taken from a poorly-received sophomore album, 1999's "Immobilarity". Infinite Arkatechz, who handled the vast majority of the production, clearly picked up a Chris Spheeris compilation and ran wild with it, but this was definitely the track where that choice made the most impact. "Andalu" has nowhere near the cold, pensive feel of this song, which is classic Raekwon for me, as he tells the story of the start of the Wu from his perspective. This month's epigraph could have been any number of the lyrics from here, which paint pictures and describe feelings that I expect many besides me will relate to. On top of all that, Kim Stephens does a great job on the hook, on what may be her only ever recorded appearance. This isn't a track you put in the middle of a mix, you either start with it or end with it.
Please remember to support the artists you like! The purpose of putting the podcast out and providing the full tracklist is to try and give some light, so do use the songs on each episode as a starting point to search out more material. If you have Spotify in your country it's a great way to explore, but otherwise there's always Youtube and the like. Seeing your favourite artists live is the best way to put money in their pockets, and buy the vinyl/CDs/downloads of the stuff you like the most!
Check out this episode!
