Yeah Luffy definitely isn't going to mistake Shamrock for Shanks.

I understand people making jokes and headcanons that Luffy is going to meet Shamrock and think that it's Shanks but honestly I think that's ridiculous. Luffy isn't super intelligent but he's not blind you guys. Luffy's not going to see Shamrock and think 'oh he's got red hair so he must be Shanks!'

Do you think Luffy is just not going to notice that this guy doesn't have very obvious scars on his face and two whole arms?? Shanks losing an arm was a defining moment in Luffy's life. That left such an impression on him, how is Luffy ever supposed to look at a guy with two arms and mistake him for Shanks?? Even if he recognizes that Shamrock has the same face as Shanks, I think Luffy isn't going to automatically think that they're the same person.

Also, Luffy literally stabbed himself in the face as a child so that he would have a scar over his eye like Shanks does. Because remember, Luffy was actually trying to stab his eye out. And I doubt it's a coincidence that it's on the same side of his face as Shanks' scars. Luffy is going to notice that Shamrock doesn't have those scars.

They've not even met yet and Luffy is already pointing out that Shamrock is nothing like Shanks personality wise in chapter 1138:

Like okay I know Luffy isn't great at recognizing people because he mistook Kaku for Usopp but that was a gag. And I don't think that's the type of gag that would be appropriate to carry over to someone as influential to Luffy's whole life and world view as Shanks.

this is not me hating on Kid (i love him and his whole punk crew) but it’s crazy how much more Oda has done to tie Law into the lore of the one piece world compared to Kid considering they are kind of treated as equals the last time we see them

like yes obviously Law is basically a honorary straw hat for multiple arcs but i’m not even talking about that, i’m talking about the Big Lore of the one piece world.

Law had a personal connection to multiple (former) celestial dragons and the former fleet admiral (by proxy)

Law has a mysterious secret name (Water) that could have something to do with what we learned in Chapter 1138

with Law’s cut off “for generations my family secretly…” line could very well somehow lead us to that connection

but yeah that’s probably the reason why Kid’s defeat looked a lot less optimistic (as far as his and his crew’s survival goes) than Law’s, cause Law has to stick around with how tied into the lore he is

(Yes also before anyone says that Oda came up with law’s character pretty spontaneously together with the other supernovas, that doesn’t mean that Oda can’t have decided to turn him into a character who is fundamental to the lore somewhere along the way (like how miss Wednesday turned into Vivi who is ALSO a core part of the Lore)

so, looking at the mural at the end of the chapter we've got a lot of things that are familiar

but i was thinking. kouzuki toki said a prophecy right before she died that has similar wording to the story of the three worlds

i know that it's likely this prophecy has been fulfilled at the end of wano, but i wondered if maybe it was referring to the third world as well.

from what i interpret of the mural, each world is the three times the sun god appeared. first, the fruit was formed from the wishes of the slaves who desired freedom - since vegapunk said that devil fruits come from wishes or dreams. second, joyboy appeared and gathered people, and they fought against what we now know as the world government before they rose the water levels. and finally, luffy appears.

toki was born 830 years ago, i think, which would put her at the end of the void century, so it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to say she knows about all of this. the nine shadows/the unbidden shadows could be luffy's crew..?

idk. i could be completely wrong, but i wanted to point it out. food for thought.

Shanks is funny because why the hell did he not warn people he has an evil identical twin brother? At least drop a note to Luffy or something ‘hey while you’re out challenging the world government watch out for this guy who looks exactly like me and commits heinous acts.’ This guy is out here commandeering territories and targeting children with your face, Shanks!

My brother returned to the Holy Land once but he has fallen for a clown down there and chooses to remain a pirate despite the world flooding…😔

So according to the texts, the world was destroyed twice and they failed to defeat the shadowy god (Imu?) both times…I hope Shanks has some good plan for the coming third world destruction. That’s why he stole the Nika fruit right??

Shanks couldn’t become the Sun god because of his Celestial blood, so he took a gamble on Luffy…That’s a huge gamble to risk it all on some kid. I think Shanks is preparing for the world destruction, but he does hope that Luffy will be able to fulfill the prophecy and bring some hope to this depressing end of the world scenario.

Okay, Artur is on fire. Japanese and translations included. Looking at the middle panel, he has this to say:

The next verses state: “The people of the half-Moon saw a dream. The people of the Moon saw a dream.”… In this case, the people of the “half-Moon” seems like an odd statement as it doesn’t connect to anyone specific. We later have a reference to the people of the Moon, obviously the angels and lunaria, and then in a later chapter the half-broken Moon, likely referring to the symbol of the Kouzuki clan. But what does half-Moon mean? Well, why not take a Moon and cut it in half? What do you get? You get… a D…. So the people of the half-Moon are the D. clan, the people of the ancient kingdom. The D. itself likely has a more unique distinctive meaning, but “the people of the half-Moon” could be a way that they referred to them.

Oof! He does go on to talk about the Lunarians, but yeah, half moon, rather than fragmented would work here. The kanji is half moon:

The first thought that came into my mind when I read the highlighted lines is Devil Fruits. After all, by eating one you evoke the wrath of the sea/ocean and forfit your ability to swim.

Could Devil Fruits and/or the creation of DFs be related to people who slew the sun? Maybe they just had DF powers and the Sea God held it against them?

I am SO HYPED.

I just read the spoilers for this weeks chapter… holy crap everyone hold onto your shorts. The lore drop is insane but cryptic, the theorizing is gonna go nuts. (Really makes me wonder how many arcs Oda has left, he’s stated his goal is to have the most hype ending of all time and most of the story is the set up for that ending and it feels like we’re getting close)
