#interview with the vampire #hulu iwtv #is my show tag #s2e5 is the best of the show #if you can look past the conceit in the first place #but its time for one of my drunk tag rants #this season is superior to season 1 #even if i have to watch this with commercials on monday nights because my other avenues doesnt think this show is worthy of uploading #i just need jesse #or more women #but this ep had no women and was gripping #even with the long and awkward ads #ive been holding back on what ive thought of the season so far #bc i think it doesnt matter #but claudia not dreaming like i wrote Rose to not dream #kinda sus #im glad i stuck with the show #its vc in a different flavor #an au #and i can appreciate the au-ness of it #ben daniels as santiago is a highlight even tho he wasnt in this ep #i prefer bailey to delainey #but i think the writers noticed that delainey wasnt as good enough of an actress and minimized her role #bailey is off saving the coral (look at her insta)#while i dont think this show is a good adaptation #season 2 is a far better show than season 1 tried to be #instead of appealing to crassness #it appeals to our emotions #chefs kiss

and like sidenote if i can make a post with a target audience of zero. i feel like fhsy was to d20 what aa3 was to ace attorney but aa3 pulled it off better for reasons i cannot explain

#it is. the amatonormativity #^ guy who was REALLY pissed about the sandra lynn stuff #like yknow that bit in the first ep where brennan is like 'oh this drama is going down' and so like the pcs investigate it #probs bcos they think itll like kick off their new quest #and then it turns out to be like. petty romantic drama.#thats kind of a microcosm of the entire season for me #not to say there werent parts i liked (looks at the picture of baron i printed out and hung on my wall)#(and most of the leviathan stuff was brilliant and ayda is a role model for me)#but its all so tied up in the rest of that shit that i dont rlly wanna rewatch it the way ive rewatched fy 6+ times #likening this to aa3 bcos of the rlly noticeable uptick in romantic content in it compared to the rest of the trilogy #like prior to that all that rlly comes to mind is like. 2-3 and pearl's shipping shenanigans and larry existing #but in aa3 both mia and phoenix have past lovers who play big parts #theres a married couple theres tigre and viola (who sidenote i ENTIRELY missed as romantic my first playthru. i am dense)#there's the business with fawles #like it felt like romance played a large part in every case in aa3 #where even when it came up in 1 + 2 it was usually ancillary (2-3 excepted but like. ppl regard that case as a fluke in most regards)#you COULD argue that maggey and adrian also inject some romantic presence in the story #but idk it just doesnt feel as central or prevalent as in aa3 #like i saw a post abt adrian and celeste being cousins in the aa anime being not just the sailor moon 'best cousins' thing #but like. reinforcing the themes of familiar devotion as aa2's core. and that was rlly foundational to my understanding of the game #even tho its a change that comes from an adaptation #whereas you Couldnt make that change in aa3 without it changing A Lot of shit #where was i going with this. shrug.#the zelda and tracker relationship drama was entirely manufactured as punishing the pcs for not centering npcs #whose relationship issues were ancillary to the overarching plot they were focused on and which hadnt rlly been brought up beforehand #'why didnt gorgug call zelda :/' do u want zac to pause the kalina mystery to roleplay good relationship communication with the dm??#like its one thing looking at sy as a narrative but looking at it as a ttrpg campaign with limited time and a need to split character focus #i dont see what it did for the story besides give gorgug something to angst abt. didnt rlly feel like there was character growth or an arc #sigh. MANDATORY DISCLAIMER its been at least a year since i watched sy and longer before that since ive played aa3 #but at the time my feelings were strong and have only calcified. romance as a theme in something not generally abt romance

#the animation was insane thiugh #i really only like if for That one scene #ppl rlly like to praise tpot 1 and 2 and i agree tpot 1 was a good introductory for the season #but 2 jusf wasnt all that great #and a lot of the time its is to bash later eps which i personally really enjoyed #my personal complaints for tpot is that its a bit too formulaic and i hope that changes #im aware it isnt the best in comparison to other seasons writing but genuinely anything will be better than most of post split #tpot neg #i guess? i really love this season so much😭

Got a paramount+ trial subscription. Just finished watching all of Strange New Worlds (review: solid star trek shenanigans, pretty much all bangers with the exception of the Spock-is-human episode which just suuuuuucked and the Klingon war trauma episode about which I have let's say Philosophical Reservations in that it could have been more Space M*A*S*H. not as gay as I was promised, in fact I would say disappointingly heterosexual. adore uhura, hemmer and la'an. cannot believe they gorned my boy 😢)

Off sick all week with COVID can't really do anything except lie around and watch TV.

#red said #an addendum to the snw review is like #bearing in mind I'm a big time ds9 guy #i really like every episode of this i think it's fun and delightful. however there are certain philosophical undercurrents I'm #at best kind of iffy on. wrt militarism.#there's points where it feels sort of like the message of the show is that it's naive and harmful to seek peace #or reconciliation #and i think that if i hold it up to tng or ds9 or even tos on that front that's a philosophy that doesn't match up with what i like in trek #like both ds9 and tng are very much about commanders doing extrajudicial war crimes but there's something about the framing #i guess like. it feels To Me like when sisko does a war crimes it weighs very heavily on him #whereas idk. it feels like the message of all the time shenanigans in snw keep coming round to You Should Feel Bad For Not Doing War Crimes #and particularly the arc with Pike staring down his fate concluding with 'you shouldn't try to change this'#compared to like. the foundation of Star Trek being 'in between two unacceptable solutions you have to look for a third way'#it sits a bit wrong for me. like. maybe they're planning more on that but it feels like they've concluded that arc with #'guess i have to let people die to prevent a future where i try to make peace then fuck it up'#like the message of season 1 is You Can't Change Your Fate which is. a weirdly doomery one.#don't get me wrong I've really been enjoying snw i think it's probably the most flat out Good Star Trek since DS9 #buuuuuuuut. i have Reservations. as i always do.#also callout post for my pal saying this is the gayest star trek. there's no fucking gays here and the nonbinary character is a 1-ep villain #i mean ortega is for sure a dyke but not explicitly #2 seconds of Andrew Robinson and Alexander Siddig sharing the screen in DS9 is gayer than this whole season and a half of SNW #literally are ANY of this cast canon queer? feel like there's a couple of lines of throwaway bisexuality but be real #we had that in the 90s #it's not toppling DS9 for gay rep any time soon and DS9 was made in the era where you weren't ALLOWED to be gay on star trek #(unless you were evil or a worm)

Something that confuses me (and alarms me a bit ngl) is the assumption I see everywhere that, once Mike moved to Seattle, he just stopped talking to Harvey. I wasn’t saying anything because there had been no confirmation either way (although why Mike would do something like that, or why Harvey would keep calling if he had, I wouldn’t know, so I just assumed he didn’t), but now I’ve watched If The Shoe Fits and there’s confirmation that they were still talking (with what had sadly become Suits-typical disregard for canon -in this case, Mike being confused about the Paula thing when he was actually in NY for it- notwithstanding. We could always assume Harvey didn’t tell him all that went down back then and now he did), so...?

#Suits TV #Mike Ross #Harvey Specter #it reminds me of the thing with Endgame and Steve in the opposite way #like the guy had travelled to the past to stay and committed to leave everyone else to rot for the sake of not interfering #and people were comparing it to changing schools #now this guy moves to another state with a 3hr difference that makes it difficult but far from impossible to call much less text or email #and fandom assumed he just cut his best friend off??? And why???#one (1) missed call? near the end of the season??#I think fandom's abandonment issues on this one ran deeper than even Harvey's ffs #also I don't want to play fandom armchair psychologist (she says right before playing fandom armchair psychologist) but #I think this is also why the negative reactions to Mike in 9x05 were so... emphatic #there's this air of 'he comes back after all this time for THIS?'#that I don't think Mike's level of dickishness in the ep quite warrants (there's something to be said of the fact that #for all the times he's done something shady with Harvey and for Harvey or even behind Harvey's back #this is the first time he's done something shady against Harvey #which would be upsetting under normal circumstances and enraging after the (presumed) months of radio silence #but... there weren't months of radio silence #also I think ppl kinda wanted Mike to come back grovelling bc everything went wrong in Seattle #and don't know what to do with a successful Mike who came back to shoot the breeze over a round of friendly bloodsport alla Gillis #remember how excited they were to get into a knife fight back then? It's why I find it weird there's ppl offended that he came back #to pick a fight or imply that him doing it bc he misses Harvey is a hidden motive. It's not. They're both very aware that it's an excuse #to hang out and to test the student against the master #what they don't realize even after Gillis is that just bc they want to try their mettle against each other doesn't mean they SHOULD #competitive arrogant dickheads that they are (my loves)

#just like they’re rebooting everything else #no one is making anything original and if they do someone else makes the same thing immediately after #like ryan reynolds made some sort of ted lasso imitation recently??#and then a million other examples #that 90s show #and when they made gravity and then it was just astronaut movies for years with interstellar and the martian and more #even tho gravity was the best and they didn’t need to make more #and the whole jurassic world crap and the never ending stream that’s the mcu and dc #and the crappy live action disney remakes #like maleficent was a masterpiece but just because that movie did so well didn’t mean they should reboot every single movie they have #and goddamn avatar 2 is finally apparently in cinemas???? even tho no one asked for it #i want original stories not three iterations of the same thing #i’m just grumpy #i’d also like some actual quality and something that lasts more than one but also more than two seasons #with the way seasons are like 8-10 eps now and people are ending shows in s3 (if they’re lucky) while at peak #but i’m over here like i want season 4 at the very minimum because they seasons are too short #derry girls was far too short and the fact that ted lasso is ending with s3 is also too short like #season 1 introduce characters #season 2 torment characters for plot #season 3 resolve plot and happy ending or some kind of ending #but like season 4?!
