Do you have any headcanon for hard of hearing Nancy?

hello anon! yes!

I will say before shit went down she had very good hearing, canonically! She’s always been able to notice shit the others don’t (rustling in the woods, the flesh monster coming to the cabin, the deer whimpering). But I think after Season 3 her hearing didn’t necessarily get all that worse but she definitely had tinnitus, probably quite badly for the first few weeks after Starcourt, and then it got better but it was still kinda there as background noise. After Season 4 is when I think she would’ve actually become hard of hearing, that shotgun is loud as shit, with no ear protection in a cramped room.

I think at first she assumes it’s going to get better in a few weeks like it did last year, so she doesn’t tell anyone. But after that she realises she is still not hearing shit but she’s kinda in denial about it and tries to make it work, but I think people notice. I think her grades slip a little because if she’s in the back of the class she can’t hear the teacher, she’s turning up the TV or the radio really loud, she’s not doing what Karen tells her to do because she didn’t hear the instruction. I think everyone close to her kind of catches a glimpse of her acting weirdly until eventually someone puts the pieces together and is like “…Nancy, can you not hear?”

She definitely would want to learn sign language. I don’t think it would be much help in a small town like Hawkins where no one else would really know it, but in Boston it definitely would. But it’s hard to find good resources to learn in Hawkins and she finds herself getting frustrated with it sometimes. I think it’s especially hard on her because her dream job as a journalist requires so much communication with people and she feels like it’s going to be impossible.

I have a headcanon that Argyle is a CODA (child of deaf adult), i honestly don’t remember where it came from but now it’s like canon in my brain. So I think he could teach her a bit of ASL or even MSL depending on what he would’ve grown up with. But yeah, I think Nancy is definitely a little torn between this fascination and desire to learn this whole new language and culture but also grieving what she feels like she’s lost. Some days she’s really eager to learn, some days she wants to lock herself in her bedroom and not talk.

She would probably get hearing aids, I think most of all her parents would be like… very insistent on it, especially Ted who is not willing to meet her halfway to learn even simple signs. But it does frustrate her sometimes, especially after a long school day where she’s been using them all day, probably has a headache, and she still can’t take them off at the dinner table because her parents want to “have a conversation” (even though that has never gone well even back when she could hear).

Robin absolutely learns sign language for Nancy and ends up becoming better at it than Nancy herself, and finds herself teaching Nancy.

Also on a more angstier note it definitely makes her even more terrified of Vecna. She has no idea if the music would work anymore.

Sorry this turned into an essay, no one has ever asked me this before I got excited. Also I am not hard of hearing so apologies if I got anything wrong.

Hello! As a CODA myself, tell me:

What made you make Magnus deaf/hard of hearing?

How would you describe their signing? Is it precise? Does it have flair? Does Magnus have a timid voice or a strong one? When signing while using their voice, do they have a strong, noticeable voice, or a timid and quiet one?

Do they ever join any organised clubs of deaf people in either Westchester or NY? Do they enjoy it? If not, would they? Would they frequent it?

Initially it was an impulse that I ended up brushing aside. However then I realized that him and one of my ILW MCs Osiris and him share not only the same last name but look fairly similar so I made them cousins. Then I remember that Osiris is also canonically deaf because it runs in their family so I went with my initial impulse.

His signing is very methodical and precise, more focus on hitting the "beats" of each sign, not as much the motion. It's a lot like a conductor actually now that I think about it. He has a very strong and commanding voice even if it isn't very loud. And he wouldn't join any clubs like that, not because of any sort of internal ableism, but because he fucking hates people XD

They said that youth is the most significant part of life. This part of your life where you can smile and laugh to the fullest with your friends—cutting classes, drinking, parties, breaking down with your academic loads—is part of your life that you will miss the most when you reach adulthood. I'm in my 20s, and I'm still in my youth. But have you experienced that life is getting bland? I woke up the same as yesterday and the other day—skipping breakfast, waiting for lunch, sleeping, watching dramas or anime, eating dinner, and another late sleep—same as usual.

I was caught up by this Kdrama-Twinkling watermelon as I was scrolling on TikTok. I watched this because it seemed funny; maybe this will make me happy for a few days. But as the show goes on it enlightens me with some critical key points in life. First, being a CODA in your family is hard. I relate to Eungyeol in the drama as the one who will take all the burden. Of course, my family is not deaf, but a CODA is the only hope in the family. All of the expectations are on you. Failure is not a choice. Because of this, you forget how to live as a youth and miss the days when you were supposed to have fun with your friends. As if you were chained to the burdens and responsibilities even though you're still young. Nonetheless, if you feel it's too heavy to carry, just tell your parents; Ha Yi Chan taught me- coz that is what family is for. The second takeaway is that we can't change the past. Everything is bound to happen. Just as Eungyeol tried to prevent the accident with his dad, we can only control what we can control. Everything does indeed happen for a reason. If you find yourself failing, rise and make it your turning point—maybe something or some part of your life needs to be changed. We are humans; we make mistakes that we can't undo, but we can make them our stepping stones to becoming stronger and bolder. The last significant lesson is to live your life to the fullest. Always make your life twinkle. Rainy days and storms in life are inevitable. Nonetheless, these are a part of life, and if you adhere to them, you will age without having lived a colossal life. In the end, it will only depend on how we perceive the world. Do not waste your time sulking because you didn't get the perfect score on your exams, just because you didn't get the A+ mark on your cards. You're still in your youth; make it radiant and twinkling, which is worth remembering in the past.

Emily just did a podcast with some ladies who were in the Santa Bootcamp movie with her, I believe one is the director and it’s called “what woman binge” I listened to it on Spotify but it’s also on Apple Podcasts. And they ask Emily a LOT of stuff, including a lot of Walking Dead questions. Emily adresses how she got shot in the head when she died and that’s why she never turned into a zombie. And then they ask her what are the main questions that people ask you about TWD, and she responds hesitantly, “what’s it like working with Norman Reedus, I cried when you died (comment she gets), and are you ever coming back.” And when she gets to the last question she says “are you gunna come back…as like…a something?” Then they directly ask her about if she’s in the TWD finale (which I believe is the first time she’s been asked), and she says “I don’t know” and gets really flustered which she then covers up by changing the conversation to zombies and how zombies work in TWD. Definitely suspicious in my opinion. And finally when she mentions why people ask her about Norman Reedus, she struggles to explain why people ask about them, without mentioning any romance or relationship. Instead she talks about how they were a “pair” for a while, and that’s why people link them. Anyway, I’m not done with it yet, but it coming out when TWD is coming to the end and her addressing being in the finale for the first time (I think) is interesting. Thoughts?

So, this is definitely suspicious. We all know Emily has no poker face and sometimes gets really flustered when asked questions about Beth. I think, overall, she's gotten better at it over the years, but this is still very interesting. Me and my fellow theorists listened to it and talked about it a little. I'll give you our convo below. Overall, I think we had the same read on it that you did, and may not have tons to add. But thanks for finding this. I'm definitely side-eyeing it.

All right so I listened to the podcast. Well, I listened to the first half, and all the stuff on TWD. I will listen to the rest later to make sure no more comes up, but I have a feeling this is it. There are definitely some…weird things. Like the anon says. But there’s more, too, than what they mention. Let me know what you think. Since I am less familiar with Emily Kinney’s personal style when it comes to talking about the show, I’m definitely interested in your thoughts.

First of all, in the title of the episode, Emily is credited as “Star of the Walking Dead Emily Kinney.” So like, she’s still being heavily associated with the show. She’s on the show because Melissa Joan Hart is the director of her Hallmark movie. So like, they easily could have credited her for that.

Overall, they spend a lot of time talking about a show that Emily hasn’t starred in for almost a decade. Just saying. Anyway, apparently in her upcoming hallmark movie, Emily has to use sign language. They talk a lot about learning sign language. Emily, at one point, makes a reference to CODA, aka “Children of Deaf Adults.”

Apparently, one of the actresses in the movie, her husband directed the movie CODA, which won an Oscar last year. Idk if you remember but they advertised the movie CODA during Emily’s episode of TTD. This was weird. I really don’t know. I mean, is it coincidence?? It seems like a lot of coincidences. Connie is deaf, and Daryl learns sign language to communicate with her. Now Emily is learning sign language apparently for some other role. It also made me reevaluate the word “CODA,” since I honestly didn’t know this was one of its meanings.

Next, they talk about The Walking Dead.

Neither Melissa nor her cohost have seen TWD. So Emily basically explains the whole show. She goes into a lot of detail about the walkers, how you kill the walkers, and yes, she mentions that when she “died,” she got shot in the head, so she never got to be a walker. She talks about how, when she first started the show, she really wanted to have the opportunity to be a walker, but then as time went on, she no longer did. She said she didn’t want people to remember Beth as a walker, so she was thankful she didn’t have to do that.

I also want to point out that when Emily says she “died,” she laughs. It wasn’t super suspect or anything, just like like, “When I died LOL” kind of feel. I learned today too that Frank Darabont cast Emily, via a skype call, on just her second audition. I believe that the fact she could sing wasn’t discovered until later.

Having just watched a bunch of episodes of season 2, it’s clear they didn’t know about her musicality when they cast her, or that it wasn’t a part of the character until later, season 3, because Dale finds a guitar and says he thinks “Glenn would like a guitar.” Later, Glenn asks if anyone at the farm can play guitar. Beth doesn’t say anything. Patricia just says, “Otis could.” Apparently Otis was really good at guitar. This could be explained away that Beth was being modest or shy and didn’t want to say anything, but yeah I think that the music came later. And i feel like maybe Gimple has attested to this as well but I can’t remember. Anyway.

Next, Melissa asked Emily the most common questions she gets about TWD. Emily hems and haws a lot. She says “Um…….” and there’s a long pause, like she doesn’t know what to say, so Melissa interjects and gives some examples of the types of questions she still gets about Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

So then Emily comes back in, and she’s super reluctant. She says, “I don’t know if I wanna be honest about it…” then starts laughing. She says she gets a lot of questions about working with Norman. She says “We had an episode where were like a—where we were like a team…so people like see us as this—or at the time, it was like were were seen as like this unit.”

She went back and forth there. She says, “People like see us as this—“ then she stops to reassess and says “or at the time, it was like we were…” etc. She was clear to correct herself and say that it was “at the time” that they were seen as a “unit.” Emily then clearly says that people ask a lot “if she’s going to come back.” Here’s the convo:

Emily: [They ask,] Are you gonna come back as like a…[pause]…something…? Melissa: [matter-of-factly] Are you? Are you in the three-parter ending? Co-host: [in the background] Not a zombie but a *ghost*… Emily: Um…I don’t think so? No? [laughsl

This was weird to me! It’s a weird answer. I know you guys have said she does this sort of thing a lot. Like how do you not know?? Note that Emily is NOT reluctant to talk about The Walking Dead. She describes the show in great detail, talks all about its themes, the walkers, the rules of the world, tries to get Melissa to watch it, and gives her advice on whether it’s appropriate for Melissa’s 9yo son.

BUT. She is super reluctant to talk about the types of questions she gets about TWD. When Melissa asks about the questions, and when Melissa asks whether Beth will be back, she is really reluctant and just sort of laughs it off. It’s just really weird to me that she “doesn’t know” if she’s in finale lol. Like, either she legit doesn’t know (which is weird) or she knows but she can’t say so, and she can’t lie (also weird). Idk which is more likely. Like, if she’s NOT in the finale, and she knows, she would probably just say so, right? Also, they talked so much about TWD. I feel like she must have known ahead of time that it would come up?

The Coda stuff is weird, and not explainable. It’s strange to me that both she and Norman have learned sign language in the past couple years.

While I was reading where Emily was searching for a word to describe Daryl and Beth's relationship I kept wanting to shout couple, couple, you guys were a couple! Haha. Of course you have to be careful in this situation because there was so many rumors of Norman and Emily actually dating.

You're right how odd it is that they were promoting Emily as a star from Walking Dead rather than a star of the movie they were supposedly promoting. I'm familiar with the movie Coda. I would really love to see it but it was on the (I believe Apple cable) and we don't have that channel but I did watch when the actor win the academy award for it and was thrilled for him. It is another strange coincidence with Emily using sign language.

I have to tell you that I have thought more than a few times about Daryl not being able to speak French but I had wondered how the use of sign language would come in handy. Of course it's American sign language so I don't know how much of a difference internationally that would be. Sorry, going down a side tunnel. Looking forward to reading if @twdmusicboxmystery had the same reactions as you did.

I did not realize that Emily was cast by Frank Darabont. I do know that they had mentioned quite a few times that they did not originally know about Emily's musical talent and that it was when they found out and actually went and saw her perform that they decided to take advantage of that and add it to her storyline. It was at one of her nightclub performances the notorious story of Greg being asked about Beth's storyline and he said something to the effect that you're really going to enjoy her journey, it's incredible ( I'm paraphrasing.)

Beth/Bethyl fans have always been angry that if he knew that Beth was going to be killed how would a fan really enjoy that. Her performing locally in Georgia was another reason that there were rumors about her and Norman because he would show up for some of her shows and just be in the back of the room watching.

The Coda/Sign language stuff is SO weird. I mean, if it’s pure coincidence, then it’s a HELLUVA coincidence, with the sign language thing AND the word—CODA. It’s got me thinking that maybe she already knew some sign language for some other reason and it’s part of why she was cast in this particular Hallmark movie, in which the character knows sign language.

Speculation time—if Beth loses some ability to speak for a little while after she’s shot, sign language would be a great way for her to learn to communicate, no? Haha. Also looking forward to @twdmusicboxmystery's reaction. And you’re right, Ann, it is like she’s trying to come up with these alternative words. “unit,” “team.” Lmao.

Day 1 Prompt: Critical Failure

Ridill Arondite was a scientist. Before she was a hero, a mentor, a lover, a fighter, she was a scientist.

And in the field of science, trial and error is a necessity for progress! Maybe that was a big part of why Ridill loved science; she got paid real money to fuck around and find out with stuff! Ridill did that anyways, so the only difference was the paycheck she got for doing it. Well, her salary was frequently docked due to the accidents and damages she accrued in the process, but twenty bucks is still enough for the month’s groceries! And, in a professional lab, there is more to protect you from any stray explosions than the makeshift wooden barricades that would contribute to her childhood injuries. Now, some people would argue “there should be no explosions in the lab in the first place”, but those people are prudes and narcs, and Ridil Arondite does not need any narcs in her life!

Before the people she loved slipped away, before saving the world became so much more complicated than fighting Demons and Coda diving, before her life became just another piece in the cosmic game, Ridill Arondite was a scientist. It was hard work, but she enjoyed it. Maybe a little too much, to be honest.

To facilitate Ridill’s personal projects, she almost always had a private place where she could perform recreational experiments in her spare time. In the later days of Station One, Ridill had fashioned a makeshift lab where she would perform “Private Science” out of one of the few unoccupied rooms at the base. In some back room in the recesses of the station, somewhere between the janitor’s closet and the armory, there was a small enclosure that Ridill affectionately called her “Science Closet”. It was a small enclosure, mostly decorated with abandoned ribbons from a previous birthday party, probably Ruth’s given the distinct crimson color, and a half-ripped canvas poster from some indie band, “Deaf Leopard”.

Ridil still remembered Ruth’s birthday celebration, as they had held it in secret as part of some long-forgotten bit, but Ridill had since forgotten what had led to said bit. Since then, nobody had taken the time to tear them down, and Ridill had never reminded herself to do it before she started lighting burners or mixing acids.

The only source of light in the room was an antique silver candelabra Ridill bought from a pawn shop in the Undercity, something she had bought solely to reinforce her personal aesthetic of “deranged scientist meddling with the natural order for personal gain”. She really liked that candelabra. And now, at some time between 1 in the morning and the reasonable waking hours of everyone else in the base, Ridill was messing with something in her dimly lit Science Closet, illuminated by three candles and a dream.

On a small wooden desk, practically little more than two bedside tables put together, there are two bunsen burners, each burning with a focused and luminescent flame under two separate test tubes. Ridill leaned over one of the open tubes and smelled the dark fumes emanating from it. As she put a cap on the tube, she mused aloud on the odor.

“Hm, this batch smells a little different. The last batch was more like vanilla frosting, but this is kind of like, a, uh…”

She pondered the odor for a while. At this point, she was more committed to identifying the closest matching scent for this experimental liquid than she was concerned about the liquid itself. The soft roiling of a viscous liquid, having reached a roiling boil behind her back, went unnoticed as she paced around the closet.

“It smells like…”

The fluid behind her began to boil over the fringes of the tubes. The sizzling of an unknown liquid touching the flame grew louder, but Ridill’s focus was squarely lodged into identifying what it smelled like. Finally, she reached her conclusion…

“Gunpowder!”

She pointed her finger upwards, as if to punctuate her point to no one in particular. She was very proud of her discovery. The D20 rolls... Natural 1.

And then, it fucking exploded.

In her attempt to determine what had resulted from her recreational science, Ridill had neglected to turn down her burners. And by the time she had identified the substance, it was too late. Ruth, Willow, and several other members of OPIA stationed at the base were rudely awakened by the blaring claxon of fire alarms. It took them a while to find the Science Closet, panicking and running around the base the whole time. Luckily, Ridill was mostly unharmed in the brief explosion, as her back had been turned to the blast at the time, and her lab coat was miraculously resilient.

To this day, Ridill has not talked about that incident with anyone, even Ruth or Willow. The embarrassment of the whole ordeal would overwhelm her if she shared it to anyone, and she made Ridill and Ruth swear to secrecy. God forbid if Ace ever found out about the incident, lest it give him even more ammunition for his metaphorical Shame Gun.

In the end, Ridill tried to identify a smell and ended up destroying her Science Closet. A failure of critical proportions, indeed.

Bejo was born to a stern father and a reserved mother in Jakarta. A mother who made him swear up and down to not resort to violence 

That promise stayed until he was around 11 when he was involved in a fost fight. It was an insult bout his mother- what was he suppose to 

Ended up going to reform school and left to the United States shortly after his sentencing 

His parents began arguing more, he just need the escape so he got involved with the wrong crowds. Hotwiring cars, breaking curfews, and a few minor arrests. 

Bejo still found himself falling for a girl named Gabriella Garcia. Something about her anchored him so well.There was a charm to her. The calm in his stormy life. Staying with her on the window ledge eating soup from a thermos and leaving when he was told to. 

He would have asked for her hand after college if everything went to plan 

cw But the group he was involved with get caught shoplifting and it was his last warning. He was given two choices: jail or the coast guard for 10 years. Naturally he was pushed to do the later.He tried his best to stay with her but ultimately he broke her heart and his in a dear john letter cw

The days in the coast guard were hell, but it wasn’t so bad briefly keeping contact with a man named Rohan. His heart broke when he heard the news bout what happened to him. 

It was just him for a while, counting the days down. Maybe there was hope for him. Maybe he would come out unscathed 

Bejo was sadly wrong when a sonic weapon has used at sea, it was a loud pitched sound and then nothing. He couldn’t hear nothing. 

cwHe spent the rest of his time being the more administrative man at sea. The loneliness ate him whole. But the worst news was his mother falling ill. 

Bejo remembered being on her side, now with hearing aids, barely able to make out she was saying. Maybe if he did he would have able to hear beware of the wolf within/ 

Bejo could only stay to bury her, crying at her tombstone wondering how his life could come to this, when his mother died so did what was left of his good nature. cw

Bejo came out of the navy and his grief a closed off man. But for the sake of his mother, he decided to be a slightly better person. Going to law school, trying to maintain a steady job, He didn’t know why or how he was pulled by the oea, perhaps he had a way with words and his score at an archery range. 

For Bejo, the oea were a means to an end for everything he lost, he wanted to regain it by being  the man that brings the hand of justice. Even if something told his mother wouldnt approve 

And whatever has been stirring inside him during the full moon but he might never know what it is…..he was a monster by his own standards anyway

Personality and Quirks: 

He is ambidextrous

Hes like a very closed of dick who doesnt belive in attachments because uhhh life sucks 

Has no clue about the werewolf thing because he literally couldn’t hear his mother say that and think he has some stress disorder because of the moon

He only likes, tolerates, or hates

Doesnt really flaunt he’s oea because its so much easier to be seen of the redeemable guy but he isnt 

Because he’s deaf due to his accident he can talk and sign but he prefers to sign 

Hasn’t killed because his mom told him to and assumed it was because cultural so decided to obey 

More a guy who does distance shots then close combat because he feels like opponents can scream and also banshees freak him out 

Also frequents maid cafes because those are the only things open at hours that are allowed and reminds him of his mothers cooking and hes melancholic

So very impartial to mothers because of his own guilt taking his own for granted 

Rohan’s stepbrother but more a black turtleneck wearer  at the beach if anything

Beethoven's Second Symphony was mostly written during Beethoven's stay at Heiligenstadt in 1802, at a time when his deafness was becoming more pronounced and he began to realize that it might be incurable. The work was premiered in the Theater an der Wien in Vienna on 5 April 1803, and was conducted by the composer. During that same concert, the Third Piano Concerto and the oratorio Christ on the Mount of Olives were also debuted. It is one of the last works of Beethoven's early period.

Beethoven wrote the Second Symphony without a standard minuet; instead, a scherzo took its place, giving the composition even greater scope and energy. The scherzo and the finale are filled with Beethovenian musical jokes, which shocked the sensibilities of many contemporary critics. One Viennese critic for the Zeitung fuer die elegante Welt (Newspaper for the Elegant World) famously wrote of the Symphony that it was "a hideously writhing, wounded dragon that refuses to die, but writhing in its last agonies and, in the fourth movement, bleeding to death."

This symphony consists of four movements.

First movement

The Introduction, Adagio molto, begins in D major, changing to B♭ major in measure 11. In measures 12–16, it briefly modulates to B♭ major and immediately back to D. The exposition (Allegro con brio) begins in D major with the A theme lasting until measure 57. A transition towards the B theme lasts until measure 72, modulating to A minor at measure 61. The B theme begins in A major at 73, moving to A minor again at 113 with a codetta from measure 117–136 (moving to D major in measure 120). The development uses material from the A theme, going through several modulations throughout and making use of the main idea from Theme A in sequence. At measure 216, the A theme returns in the recapitulation, lasting until measure 228. There is a transition from 229–244, bringing back the B theme at measure 245, this time in the tonic key. At 327, B♭ major returns briefly, moving back to D in 334 with a Coda from measures 340–360.

Second movement

This movement, Larghetto, is in the dominant key of A major and is one of Beethoven's longest symphonic slow movements. There are clear indications of the influence of folk music and the pastoral, presaging his Symphony No. 6 ("Pastoral").

Third movement

This movement, Scherzo: Allegro, encloses a melodious oboe and bassoon quartet within a typical-sounding Austrian side-slapping dance.

True Biz: A Novel by Sara Noviç is an enlightening story about the deaf, particularly deaf children. The contemporary story takes place in Colson, Ohio at River Valley School for the Deaf (RVSD).

The title of the book, True Biz is an exclamation used in American Sign Language (ASL) that means really, seriously, definitely, or real talk. Students at RVSD simply want to understand the world around them, hang out with friends, and blend in. But, as with any special needs children, there are always obstacles to overcome.

The story centers around two children and the headmistress of the school.

Charlie, lives with her father as the result of a custody battle. Both her parents can hear, but Charlie was born deaf. When she was three years old she had surgery to install a cochlear implant, which, unfortunately didn’t work. Charlie suffers with annoying buzzing sounds and headaches. She attended public schools but became rebellious when she couldn’t understand what people were saying and had no way to communicate. When she was placed in RVSD she still couldn’t communicate because she had never learned ASL, which was how the students communicate with their teachers and one another.

Austin, also a student at RVSD is deaf like his parents and grandparents. He’s a well-adjusted, popular kid and is asked to show Charlie around the school and the two form a special bond. Austin and his parents’ world become confusing when they have a new baby girl who can hear.

February is headmistress of River Valley School for the Deaf. She desperately fights to keep the school running despite its threatened closure, to meet her obligations at home, and try to fulfill the needs of her aging mother. She is a CODA, an acronym that stands for a hearing child of deaf adult(s).

True Biz is an unforgettable story. I learned a great deal about the deaf, their challenges and feelings of isolation. Author Sara Noviç, is deaf, so I had the assurance that she knows the loneliness and struggle for human connection. I learned about the debates surrounding deaf children: should they be equipped with a cochlear implant, learn to lip read, or learn ASL, choices that all have advantages and disadvantages. I learned that ASL is a language of concepts, that only as a last resort will a word be spelled out. Chapters are interspersed with interesting tidbits of deaf historical “cures,” remedies through the centuries, conventions to discuss deaf education, and diagrams of ASL.

‘CODA Champion’ Dominik Mysterio x fem!reader

^on the biggest night of her career, with her family in attendance, dom decided to make it even bigger^

- CODA: a child of a deaf adult; a person that was raised by one or more deaf parents or guardians (reader and her brother are the only hearing members of the family), ASL - american sign language - this is my world so rey and dom are the smackdown tag team champions - Y/R/N - your ring name, Y/L/N - your last name, Y/B/N - your brother’s name - rey mysterio (Óscar; i call him mr.g) - querida - darling, mi hija - my daughter, mi pequeña campeona - my little champion - anything that is in sign language will be in italics

Y/N POV:

I couldn’t control my nerves as I fidgeted in gorilla. I had worked so hard and I finally got my shot to be the SmackDown Women’s Champion. I couldn’t even process winning the Royal Rumble, I still can’t. When I stood on the ropes and pointed to the big WrestleMania sign and Dom and Mr. G came out to join me. I had known them since I started training. Dom and I spent a lot of time together and he eventually asked me out. I couldn’t say no, he was the sweetest guy I had ever met. The past four years have been magic and being a part of their team has been amazing. I never knew a love like this until I met him. “Querida, you’re gonna get worn out before you even get to the ring.” Dom said from behind me as he put his arms around my chest with my hands going up to his forearms. “It’s the biggest night of my life, my family is here and I could win my first title. I can’t help it.” “You will win, Y/N. You earned that title.” He planted kisses to my hair and cheek as we waited. 

“And the challenger, accompanied to the ring by the SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The Mysterios; Y/R/N!” Samantha announced into the mic as ‘Feel Invincible’ by Skillet played. When I got to the ring, I got on the ropes by the turn buckle and threw my hands up in a single sign: I love you! I looked down to where my family was and waved to them. My gear tonight was dedicated to them; my shorts said my family’s name on the back and my top said CODA across the front. I hugged Mr. G and he whispered to me “You got this mi hija.” I went to kiss Dom one last time and told him I love him before the two of them slid out of the ring. Only me, Charlotte, and Jess refereeing the match left in the ring. The bell rang and I went on auto-pilot.  Over time, I had gotten Charlotte where I wanted her; ready to deliver the 619. I ran back, bounced off the ropes and ran to swing. I hear my boyfriend excitedly yelling and jumping around. She was on her back and I decided to climb the top rope for a frog splash. When I got to the top, I took a deep breath and went for it. I hooked her leg and got the three count. 

I could feel the tears well up as Jess handed me the belt; my belt. Dom and Mr. G got in the ring and my overjoyed boyfriend helped me up. I held it up with one hand and pointed to my family, my parents were crying and my brother couldn’t contain himself. As the ring cleared, Mr. G took Dom’s belt as well as mine and Dom grabbed a mic. I was just as confused as the crowd until he took my hand and started speaking;

“I know this isn’t the most romantic way to do this but, Y/N, these four years have been an absolute blessing. You are everything to me and more. From the moment I saw you, I knew you were the one. Getting to know you has been my honor.” he turned to address everyone, “For those of you that don’t know, Y/N is a CODA. Both of her parents are deaf, so from a young age, her and her brother had translated for them. When I met them for the first time, I was scared I screwed up because I had tried to introduce myself to them in sign language but I ended up saying something inappropriate.” He turned back to me, “Now, just a few months ago, I went to your parents and asked them this in sign language so I’m doing the same now;”

He got down on one knee in the middle of the ring and started signing Y/N Y/L/N, I am head over heels for you so will you do me the honor, will you marry me? He then pulled a box out of his pocket and opened it. It was the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. The tears fell as I nodded and signed back Yes! Yes Dominik! His face lit up even more and he got up to pull me close for a kiss. The entire arena was on their feet as he slipped the ring on my finger. “Hey! Not gonna come celebrate with us?” Y/B/N yelled. Dom helped me out of the ring and we went over to were my family was, Mr. G joining us. I’m so proud of you two. Mom signed and hugged us. Dad held his hand out for Dom and then he signed something to Dom, “What did he say?” “He said ‘Welcome to the family, Son’.”

When we got back to gorilla, Kayla was there to talk to us. “Y/R/N, congratulations on becoming the new SmackDown Women’s Champion and congratulations to both you and Dominik on your engagement. How do you feel?” I spoke first, “Thank you so much Kayla. I feel so grateful to hold this title after dreaming about it and working for it for years. On the engagement, I’m blessed and excited to spend the rest of my life with Dominik. I was more over the moon about him learning sign language to propose to me. That meant the world to me. How about you baby?” I asked him. “Y/N is the love of my life and I’m just so proud of her. She’s is just the greatest person inside and outside the ring. It took some time to learn, but I wanted to propose that way so it could be shared with her parents. Before I met her, I had no idea what CODA meant but now I do and I’m going to do what I can to learn ASL so I can connect to my new in-laws.” Kayla smiled “Well, I’ll let you two go celebrate. Congrats again you two.” We thanked her and left; we saw Megan interviewing Mr. G so we listened in. She asked him how he felt about the night’s events,

“Y/N makes my son really happy and they motivate each other and push each other to new levels. Hell, I already looked at her like my daughter-in-law since they announced they were dating.” Megan asked “Will she be taking the Mysterio name?” “Well, that’s up to her, Megan.” They wrapped up and the three of us went to take pictures; my parents finally get their picture of me and a title. Shot after shot of me holding and wearing my belt, thank God I got to fix my makeup and hair because between the match, my win, and getting engaged; I knew I looked a mess. The photographer asked "Can we get a few of the happy couple? Higher ups want them for the social media pages." I pulled Dom out of his chair with his title. A few with our titles were taken, then he looked at me "Can we do that sign you taught me? 'I really love you'?" "Only if you kiss me while we do it~" He pulled me in by my waist, "With pleasure." We held our hands up in the single sign for I love you with our pointer and middle fingers crossed. More were taken of us and I asked if they could be sent to me as well. We wrapped up and met back up with our families.

All through dinner, Dom’s hand never left my body. Either holding my hand, around me, on my thigh; anywhere. I looked at him with nothing but love in my eyes until Mom got my attention When will I be getting my grandbabies? Dad smiled and Y/B/N started laughing, "What did she-" Dom started but Y/B/N jumped on it, "She asked when you're gonna have kids." "I want a niece!" Aalyah jumped in. I signed and spoke at the same time "We've talked about it but decided now isn't the time." Dom and I wanted kids but we're still young, just got engaged, and are in amazing places in our careers. I never considered myself a 'traditional' person, but I do wanna have some newlywed time with him before all that.

We got back to our hotel room and got ready for bed. I was putting my hair up as Dom was on the bed looking through his phone, "Bebé look what they posted," he came into the bathroom and showed me the post on WWE's Instagram we were tagged in:

They posted the whole engagement video, and some of the photoshoot pictures. The comments were full of love and support. "Dom, where did you learn to sign that?" He rubbed the back of his neck "Y/B/N helped me out. I wanted to make it special." "You did that for me?" His face got all flushed, “This is why I love you Dominik.” I put my hand on his cheek. “I love you too, mi pequeña campeona. Now, I think it’s time we have a little celebration of our own?” “You read my mind.” He signaled for me to jump and he picked me up, kissing me passionately and brought me to the bed~
