rival fashion designer!minghao
â synopsis: where minghao flexes his fashion awards whenever your brand competes against him during fashion week. â WC: 3k â WARNINGS: explicit language, smut, reader uses a transparent clothing (just like rihanna in oscar x swarovski), oral (f. receiving) ENORMOUS DICK!MINGHAO, slight face slap, mentions of choking on a cock, penetrative sexâor trying to.
look, you werenât trying to start beef with minghao. you donât even know why the dude hates you so much. okay, maybe you said one thing about his fall line looking like it got snatched off the clearance rack at an IKEA. but that was a year ago. and also? you were drunk and kinda bitter âcause your show got bumped for his stupid avant-garde puff-sleeve renaissance clowncore shit.
but now, every fashion week is like a personal vendetta for him to humble you. youâll be vibinâ, sipping your overpriced latte in the designer lounge, and this man will just stroll in, decked out in some vintage runway piece that costs more than your annual budget, flashing that âi won best emerging designer againâ smirk like itâs a fucking weapon. and then heâll throw some casual shit like:
âoh, y/n, is that your collection over there? i thought they were setting up for the kidâs line showcase.â
[...]
so this year, you swore you wouldnât let him get in your head. youâd play it cool, professional, unbothered. except you walk into your studio late one night, the day before your big runway debut, and this man is just there. sitting on your worktable. wearing a pearl-studded harness and leather pants so tight it should be a crime.
you freeze, halfway through the door, holding the iced coffee you begged your intern to grab five minutes before starbucks closed. âwhat the fuck are you doing here?â
minghao barely glances up from his phone. âyour assistant let me in.â
traitor.
âwhy?â you slam the coffee on the counter, praying your voice doesnât shake. the audacity of him just existing in your space is enough to make your blood boil.
he stands, slow as hell, like heâs got all the time in the world. heâs tallâannoyingly tallâso when he steps close, youâre immediately at a disadvantage. but you refuse to back down.
âjust wanted to check out the competition,â he says, eyes flicking lazily over the chaos of fabric swatches and half-finished sketches strewn across the room. âcute line. very... simple.â
âfuck you, hao,â you snap, crossing your arms. âitâs called âminimalism.â not that youâd know anything about taste.â
he laughs, soft and low, the kind of sound that creeps under your skin and lingers there. âoh, i have plenty of taste. i just donât need to keep it basic to get attention.â
and hereâs the thing: you hate how much he gets to you. heâs a smug asshole with an overinflated ego, but heâs also stupidly talented, and you canât ignore the fact that his lines always sell out in under a day. or how his press coverage makes yours look like a local craft fair feature.
but what really gets you is how hot he looks right now, with his ridiculous cheekbones and the glint of that tiny silver chain peeking out from under his collar. itâs disgusting. you hate it.
youâre about to throw a cutting remark his way, something about how heâs overcompensating with all that jewelry, but he beats you to it.
âyou know,â he murmurs, stepping even closer, âyouâd look good in my designs.â
your brain short-circuits. âexcuse me?â
âif you ever want to elevate your style...â he trails off, dragging his gaze down the length of your body like itâs a runway.
âyou are so full of shit,â you hiss, but thereâs no heat behind it, because your stupid traitorous brain is suddenly imagining what itâd feel like to have his hands on you.
he smirks, all teeth and danger, leaning in so close you can smell his expensive cologne. âmaybe. but youâre thinking about it now, arenât you?â
you donât answer.
[...]
the next morning, youâre running on zero sleep, fueled by pure spite and caffeine, but your runway show? flawless. models everywhere, hair spray choking the air, seamstresses practically sewing on skin âcause the deadlines were that tight. and you were doing a thousand fucking things at once.
fixing a hemline here, shouting at a makeup artist thereââno, not clean girl aesthetic, weâre going full grunge today, wake up!ââall while struggling to get yourself into the swarovskied transparent gown you planned to wear for the night.
no bra, because tits were the least controversial thing in fashion. and the way the crystals draped over your skin looking likew pure art. nipples out and proud, paired with modern curls swirled to perfection and makeup that screamed chaos-but-make-it-glam.
by the time your collection hit the runway, your nerves were shredded. but watching the models strut, each piece shining under the lights... fucking worth it.
and then, the finale: your dress sweeping dramatically across the stage as you closed the parade. you bowed to the crowd, letting the cameras and whispers soak in every inch of you, and as you turned to leave, you felt it.
minghaoâs sharp eyes.
you caught his eyes just as they traveled the length of youâfrom the swirl of your hair, to the unapologetic sharpness of your nipples under the crystals, to the shimmer of your dress, down to the towering heels on your feet.
you just smirked to yourself as you headed backstage, knowing full well your collection didnât just crawl under his skin this time. it slithered under his flesh, wrapped tight around his ribs, and squeezed.
[...]
minghaoâs models stormed the runway like it was their goddamn birthright. and of course, you watched. no designer worth their silk ignored the competition, and minghao wasnât just competition, he was a walking masterclass in making everyone feel like second place.
he closed his show with his usual flare, stepping out like he already knew the applause was his. fast-forward two designers later, and the nominations for the fashion academy awards started rolling in. you didnât have to look to know minghao had already claimed half the early awards.
you watched him backstage through narrowed eyes as he balanced four trophiesâtwo tucked in his arms, two in his handsâposing for a picture with that smug-ass smile. you knew that pic was already blowing up on his Instagram. your jaw clenched, nails digging into your palm as the last nominations were announced.
and then, plot twist of the year:
your name came up five times.
designer of the year: you.
new vision in fashion: you.
collection of the year: your brand.
runway innovation: your brand.
showstopper of the year: your brand.
walking out with those five heavy-ass awards in your arms? victory tasted better than champagne. your models and team practically swarmed you, hyping you up âcause they knew how much blood, sweat, and tears went into this collection.
but what you really wanted... minghao. definitely minghao. minghao, in your line of sight. because after all the times he flaunted his wins like a smug bastard, you wanted him to feel this.
and lucky for you, fate delivered.
you spotted him in the back hallway, leaning against the wall, scrolling through his phone. clearly, he hadnât heard the last nominees. his head snapped up when your heels echoed through the space.
âoh, hey, hao,â you called out, voice sweet as honey but sharp as glass. you stopped just short of him, shifting the five trophies in your arms so they pressed against your chest. the weight of them pushed your tits up just enough to catch his eyes.
âlooks like Iâve got... a plus one on you this year.â you smirked, shaking the awards a little for good measure, the motion making the crystals on your dress catch the dim hallway light.
his eyes flicked downâbrief, subtle, but not subtle enoughâand then back up, his expression neutral, but you could feel the shift in his ego.
âcongrats,â he said, the word clipped like it physically hurt him.
âthanks, babe,â you purred, turning on your heel with a sway of your hips. âsee you next season. maybe.â
and with that, you left, letting the click of your heels carry the weight of your victory.
[...]
days later, you were lounging in minghaoâs big leather chair, legs crossed up on his table, showing the expensive ass high heels you always wore. his assistant had let you in with barely a question, and you werenât one to waste an opportunity.
when he finally walked in, his eyes narrowed immediately. âwhat the hell are you doing here?â
ârelax,â you drawled, leaning back like his office was a spa. âyour assistant said I could wait. guess they like me more than you.â
he folded his arms, leaning against the doorframe. âdidnât think youâd show your face here after the other night. thought youâd be busy polishing all those trophies.â
you grinned, slow and smug. âoh, i polished them. just thought iâd stop by to see how youâre doing. must be hard, you knowâlosing.â
his jaw tightened, but he didnât rise to the bait. instead, he stepped closer, looming over you. âyou done?â
ânot even close,â you said, standing up to match his energy. you stopped just shy of his chest, tipping your chin up. âbut donât worry, hao. iâll let you borrow a trophy sometime if you really need the validation.â you patted his shoulder.
he scoffed, his lips curling into something between a smirk and a sneer. âyou know, i like your attitude.â
you raised an eyebrow. âyeah? you must, considering how much you stalk me every season.â
âmaybe thatâs why we should work together.â
you laughed, loud and sharp, tossing your head back. âoh, thatâs rich. you? work with me? what, so you can take credit for my ideas and call it a âcollaborationâ?â
he tilted his head, eyes narrowing slightly. âiâm serious. weâd be unstoppable.â
for a second, you almost believed him. âunstoppable, huh? what makes you think iâd even want to work with you?â
âbecause you like the challenge... admit it. you love it when i push you.â
âyouâre intolerable.â
âand yet,â he murmured, stepping so close you could feel the heat radiating off him, âyou havenât left yet.â
your laugh came out breathy this time, your pulse quickening as his hand grazed the curve of your hip. âyou think Iâm staying here for you? please. your assistant let me in, remember?â
âsure,â he said. his thumb traced slow circles against your side, almost lazy. âbut youâre still here.â
you were about to snap back with something cutting, something to wipe that stupid smirk off his face, but then he tilted your chin up with two fingers, his gaze locked on yours like a predator sizing up prey.
âstop thinking,â he whispered, leaning in just enough for your lips to almost touch. âyou might actually enjoy yourself.â
his lips were soft and plump, moving against yours so fucking good that felt unfair. his hand slid to the small of your back, pulling you flush against him, and you couldnât help the soft moan that escaped.
your hands found his chest, the fabric of his shirt warm under your fingertips as you pushed him slightly, breaking the kiss with a smirk. âyouâre bold, iâll give you that.â
âyouâre still thinking,â he teased, catching your bottom lip between his teeth before pulling back.
your hands slid up to his shoulders, gripping just enough to feel the flex of his muscles. you threatened to sit on his table.
his eyes widened slighty, his hands immediately grabbing your ass to lift you up, making you yelp. âdonât!â
âwhat? scared iâll break it?â you teased, wrapping your legs around his waist.
he places the needles that were spread lazily on the table, inside of a box. he turned, his grip firm as he carried you a few steps and sat you on a nearby armchair.
âthere were needles on that table, genius,â he scolded, his tone sulky but his fingers tracing slow lines along your thighs. âyouâd be bleeding before I even got started.â
âaww,â you cooed, dragging your nails down his neck. âyou worried about me, hao?â
âno,â he muttered, kneeling, dipping his head to kiss along your jawline, his teeth grazing just enough to make you arch towards him. âjust donât want to ruin my night with a trip to the hospital.â
your laugh turned into a soft moan as his lips found the spot just below your ear. âguess youâre not as heartless as you act.â
he pulled back slightly, his smirk sharper than ever. âyou talk too much.â
you pulled him in for another kiss, your tongues colliding this time. when you tried to take control, tilting your head for a deeper angle, he pulled back just enough to make you chase him.
minghaoâs hands were firm on your thighs, his thumbs brushing against your skin like he wasnât about to wreck you in the middle of his office. his eyes dragged down, lingering on the way your skirt was pushed up, the space between your legs bare and unapologetic.
he clicked his tongue, a smirk pulling at the corner of his lips. âno panties, huh?â he said. âcame here like this?â
âwhat can I say?â you shot back, shifting slightly so his hands pressed harder against your skin. âi had a feeling youâd end up on your knees.â
his smirk deepened, his fingers tightening slightly as he leaned in, close enough for you to feel his breath. he pressed your legs further onto the armrests, spreading you wider, his hands splayed like he wanted to leave imprints.
his tongue flicked out, close enough to make you tenseâbut he didnât touch you. instead, he pulled back, his eyes locking with yours as a smirk tugged at his lips.
he leaned in again, his tongue brushing so close you could feel the warmth from his breath, but once again, he pulled back just as you tilted your hips forward.
âhao..â you warned.
âwhat?â he teased, his lips hovering over your folds.
your hands gripped the armrests as you glared down at him. âif you donât stop playing, i swearââ
he cut you off with a broad, strong lick, dragging his tongue from your entrance, through your folds, and up to your clit in one unbroken suck. your head fell back as a gasp tore from your lips.
âthat shut you up,â he muttered, his voice muffled as he dipped lower, his tongue swirling around your entrance before moving back up. âneedy much?â
âshut up and do it again,â you shot back, your voice sharper than the way your thighs trembled under his grip.
and he did the same. your clit throbbing at the rough skin of his tongue, making you melt on his armchair, he smiled at the sight, he knew how a good head felt after months dealing with needles and sparkly cloths.
his lips latched onto your folds, sucking them into his mouth before he pulls back just slightly, his tongue flicking against your clit in quick, teasing strokes. you let out a pornographic moan, before your clap a hand on your mouth, remembering the team outside the office. he chuckled darkly, his hands tightening on your thighs to hold you still. his lips wrapping around your clit again. this time, he sucked it fully into his mouth, his tongue flicking against it as his eyes flicked up to yours.
âyouâre so good at this, hmmâfuuuck!â you said, your nails drowning in the leather of the armchair. âyou mustâve practiced on a lot of other girls, huh?â
his eyes narrowed slightly, and his teeth grazed your clit just enough to make you wwhimper. âjealous?â he asked, his voice smug, though he didnât stop the relentless motion of his tongue.
âplease,â you shot back, though the way your breath hitched betrayed you as he did a zig-zag on your bud with the tip of his otngue. âyouâre better when youâre silent.â
he smirked against you, his lips curving as he pulled back just enough to speak. âthen shut me up.â
your fingers tangled in minghaoâs hair, tugging him closer, harder, until his face was buried against your pussy. his groan vibrated through you, desperate, and his hands clamped down on your thighs to steady himself as you rolled your hips against his mouth.
âthatâs it... mhmm, just like that...â
he obeyed, his head bobbing as his tongue slid against you in broad, wet strokes, his lips sealing around your clit every few seconds to suck, deep and rhythmic. the wet, obscene sounds filled the room, and your nails scraped lightly against his scalp as you held him there, guiding him exactly how you wanted.
the heat in your core coiled tighter, and you barely had time to register your orgasm hit.
your back arched, your mouth falling open as moans spilled out shamelessly. your hips rolled against his face as you came, and minghao didnât stopânot for a second. he worked you through it, sucking and licking as though he felt your climax before you did.
he only pulled back when you began to squirm, your breath coming in sharp gasps as overstimulation took hold. his lips and chin were slick as he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, his eyes glinting as he looked up at you.
âhad fun?â he asked, sarcastically.
you gave a breathless laugh, your chest heaving as you leaned back in the chair. âyou talk too much for someone who just spent five minutes swallowing my pussy.â
his smirk widened, and he stood, his hands braced on the armrests as he leaned down, his face inches from yours. âand you talk too much for someone whoâs about to beg me to fuck her.â
your gaze flicked to his lips, and then lowerâto the bulge straining against his pants. âbig words,â you said. âletâs see if you can back them up.â
his hands slid to your thighs, lifting you effortlessly as he walked you back toward the deskâno needles this time. you didn't even had time to register what was happening before your skirt was pushed higher, his fingers brushing over your thighs as he settled you on the edge.
his hand worked his belt, the clink of the buckle making you clench around nothing.
âthis isnât gonna be quick,â he said as he freed himself, the sheer size of him making your breath catch. it was big both in length and girth.
you swallowed hard.
ârelax... mhmmâ
he teased your entrance with the tip, sliding it slowly against you, and the stretch was immediate, even as he slightly pressed in. your breath hitched, your hands gripping the edge of the desk as he pushed forward, achingly slow, giving you time to adjust.
ânghâfuck!â you gasped, your voice breaking as he filled you inch by hard inch.
âbreathe,â he murmured, his tone gentle despite the tension in his body. mouth glued on yours to make sure he feels your puffs of air.
âtryingâ
he paused, his hands tightening on your hips as he leaned down, his lips brushing your ear. âyouâre okay,â he whispered. âjust breathe for me.â
you hiccuped, your chest rising and falling in shallow gasps as your body struggled to adjust.
âthere you go,â he murmured, his lips brushing against your jaw as he waited âgood girl. just like that.â
you exhaled slowly, your body relaxing slightly helping him to slid in further, the fullness stealing the air from your lungs.
your hands gripped his arms, your nails digging into his skin as he finally bottomed out, his body pressed flush against yours.
âfuck,â he muttered, his voice tight as he buried his face in your neck. âyouâreâso fucking tight.â
you swallowed hard, your head tilting back as you tried to catch your breath. âyouâreâso fucking big.â
he pulled back slightly, his eyes meeting yours as a smirk tugged at his lips. âthink you can take it?â
your breath hitched, and you nodded, your hands sliding to his back as you wrapped your legs around his waist. âtry me.â
minghao hips pulls back just an inch before thrusting forward experimentally. the sound that left your lips was somewhere between a moan and a strangled gasp, your nails biting into his shoulders as your body clenched around him.
he paused, a smug smile tugging at his lips as he tilted his head to the side, his eyes flicking over your face. âyeah, knew thatâd happen.â
âdonâtââ your breath hitched as he moved just slightly, a tiny shift that made you clutch at him even harder. âdonât fucking smile like that.â
his laugh was quiet, he leaned down, his forehead brushing against yours. âwhy not? youâre almost cummin already.â
âiâm notââ the words caught in your throat as he slid just a little deeper, your body trying desperately to adjust to his size.
ânot what?â he asked, his tone playful as he stilled again, waiting for you to catch your breath.
ânotâcummingâ you managed, though your voice shook with the effort of speaking.
âhmm.â his thumb grazed your clit, circling it trying to soothe your nerves. âthen why are you holding on to me likethat?â
you glared at him, though the effect was probably ruined by the way your mouth fell open with a gasp as his thumb pressed down just slightly harder.
your body tensed as he began to move again, sliding in slowly, each inch dragging against you in a way that made your head fall back. the wet squelch of your body adjusting to his girth filled the room, obscenelly.
âshit,â he muttered, his voice tight as he wrapped his arm around your waist, holding you steady. âyouâre soâtight. feels like youâre trying to squeeze me out.â
âmaybe i am.â
he laughed softly âyouâre all talk,â he murmured, his thumb still circling your clit. âthat pussy is begging for me.â
âhao,â you whispered, your hands clutching at his arms as your legs tightened around his waist. âiâfuck, i canâtââ
âyou can,â he said softly, his lips moving against your neck. âbreathe for me, baby. youâve got this.â
you exhaled shakily, your chest rising and falling against his as you tried to relax, tried to let the tension in your body melt away. his thumb pressed a little harder against your clit, insistent, coaxing pleasure to override the discomfort.
âthatâs it,â he murmured, his voice soft as his arm tightened around your waist. âjust like that. let me in.â
your head fell back, your eyes fluttering shut as he finally slid deeper, his hips pressing flush against yours. the sensation stole the breath from your lungs, and your fingers dug into his shoulders, desperate for something to anchor you.
âyou okay?â
you nodded weakly, your hands sliding up to grip his hair as you whispered, âmove.â
he chuckled as he pressed a kiss to your temple. ânot yet.â
your eyes snapped open, frustration bubbling in your chest as you glared at him. âhaoââ
ârelax,â he murmured, his thumb circling your clit again, making you cry out slyly. âiâm not gonna ruin you all at once. gotta make sure you can take it.â
âi can,â
âweâll see,â he said, his tone smug as he finally, finally pulled back, his cock dragging against you.
âhao, justâfuck me already.â
his laugh was quiet. âyouâre not ready for that yet, lookââ he roll his hips, making you hiccup again. âbut donât worryâIâll get you there.â
âhow about you?â you ask, feeling your orgasm building up as he circled the thumb faster, your hips rolling slightly, weak, like the cock inside you was to heavy to make you roll them freely.
âi can get off just by looking at this pretty face...â he slaps your cheek weakly, twice, making you squeeze around him. âlisten to what i'm telling you⌠you're still going to model for my brand.â he chuckles.
âiâd rather choke to death than work with your brand.â
âwhy donât you choke on something else, then?â

AO3 | Part 1 | Part 2 | Master List
Under Her Protection
Youâre sprawled out on Rioâs couch, nestled comfortably against her side as the TV plays in the background. Itâs the kind of night youâve both come to loveâno plans, no rush, just the two of you together, half-watching some crime drama. You can feel the steady rise and fall of her chest as you rest your head there, her arm slung casually around your shoulders, fingers absently tracing patterns on your arm.
Itâs a rare, peaceful moment, one that youâve started to cherish more and more. You glance up at her; she looks different like thisâsofter. The usual tension in her jaw has melted away; her sharp features relaxed in a way you rarely get to see. You smile to yourself, the sight of her at ease filling you with a quiet kind of joy. Sheâs not just the composed, authoritative FBI agent you first met. Here, sheâs Rioâyour Rioâand you could watch her like this forever.
You press a kiss to her jaw, feeling her smile against your lips.
âEnjoying the show?â she asks, her voice teasing. You know she couldnât care less about whatâs on the screen, but itâs a running joke between the two of youâmocking the exaggerated, overly dramatic FBI agents depicted on TV.
âOh, absolutely,â you drawl, playing along. âI just love how accurate it all is. Clearly, every case is solved in a day, and all agents wear heels and leather jackets.â
Rio chuckles, pulling you closer. âItâs ridiculous,â she snorts. âHalf of this would get thrown out in court in a heartbeat. And donât even get me started on the âenhance the grainy footageâ bullshit.â
You grin, enjoying the rare, playful side of her. âI bet youâd never pull a stunt like that. The great Agent Vidal would never dream of cutting corners.â
She raises an eyebrow, her smirk sharp. âOh, youâd be surprised what Iâve pulled off. Sometimes rules are more like... guidelines.â
You laugh, leaning into her, and she squeezes your shoulder lightly. For a moment, everything feels easyâpeaceful.
Then her phone buzzes, cutting through the quiet. She lets out a small sigh and picks it up, her expression immediately shifting as she reads the message. The shift is so sudden it makes your stomach drop. Without a word, she gets up and walks to the window, peering through the blinds like sheâs expecting to see somethingâor someoneâout there.
âRio?â You ask cautiously, sitting up. âWhatâs wrong?â
She doesnât answer right away, her shoulders visibly tense. Finally, she lets the blinds fall back into place and turns to you, her expression grim. âThat was work,â she says, her voice low and controlled. âSomeone I put away years ago just got released on parole. He... wasnât supposed to get out this soon.â
You frown, confused. âWhy is that a problem? Didnât he serve his time?â
Her jaw tightens, and for a moment, you think she wonât answer. Then she sighs, running a hand through her hair. âThe last time I saw him, he threatened to ruin my life,â she says quietly. âHeâs dangerous. And vindictive. If he finds out where I live... who you are... how much I lovâ.â
She doesnât finish the sentence, but she doesnât have to. The implications hang heavy in the air. You swallow hard, suddenly very aware of the weight of her job and the risks that come with it.
âHey,â you say softly, standing and moving to her side. âIâm sure itâs fine. He probably doesnât even know youâre here.â
Her eyes meet yours, and for the first time since you met her, you see real fear there. âMaybe. But I canât take that chance.â She pauses, her hand brushing your arm. âI want you to stay here. At least until I figure out whatâs going on.â
The seriousness in her tone leaves no room for argument, and you nod. âOkay. Iâll stay.â
You settle back onto the couch together, but the atmosphere has shifted now, an unspoken tension lingering in the room. Rio keeps her phone close, her other arm wrapped protectively around you, her eyes flicking back to the window every so often.
You try to focus on the TV show, but your thoughts keep drifting. Itâs unsettling, this shadow of a threat hanging over the two of you, and you can tell Rio feels it too. Her grip on you tightens every time she hears a noise from outside, her thumb rubbing circles against your arm as if sheâs trying to soothe both of you.
Eventually, you turn your head to look up at her. âYou know, I donât need a TV show when Iâve got my own personal action hero right here.â
Rio snorts, shaking her head. âIs that what I am now?â
âYep,â you say, grinning up at her. âNeighbour, fashion critic, and now... bodyguard.â
She rolls her eyes but leans down to press a kiss to your lips, soft and lingering. âJust stay close, okay?â
You nod, your heart fluttering at the protectiveness in her voice. âIâm not going anywhere, Rio.â
Relief flashes across her face, but itâs fleeting. She takes your hand, leading you to her bedroom without another word. The silence between you is heavy but not uncomfortableâitâs charged, humming with unspoken worry and a need for closeness.
When you get to the bed, her hands are on you immediately, tugging you close. Thereâs a new intensity to her touch, her fingers gripping your hips firmly, almost possessively. She kisses you hard, like sheâs trying to stake her claim, her mouth moving with an urgency youâve never felt from her before.
âRioââ you start, but she cuts you off with another kiss, her hands sliding under your shirt, nails raking up your skin. Her lips move to your neck, sucking and biting hard enough to leave marks that you know will last. Itâs not just passionâitâs something deeper, rawer. Like she needs to prove to herself that youâre here, that youâre hers.
You let her take the lead, your own hands roaming her body, trying to reassure her in your own way. But sheâs relentless, her mouth trailing lower, her teeth grazing your collarbone. She pushes you back onto the bed, her weight settling over you as she pins your wrists above your head.
Her gaze is dark, her eyes searching yours. âI need to know youâre safe,â she murmurs, her voice rough. âI need to feel it.â
You nod, your heart pounding in your chest. âIâm not going anywhere,â you whisper, and itâs the truth.
Her grip on your wrists tightens briefly before she leans down, kissing you again, slower this time but no less intense.Â
The night is a blur of heated touches and whispered reassurances, her possessiveness never crossing the line into discomfort. Instead, it leaves you breathless, the depth of her need for you pulling you even closer.
When you finally fall asleep, tangled in her arms, the weight of her protectiveness wraps around you like a shield. Even as your mind drifts, you know this is only the beginning of whatever storm is coming. But with her by your side, youâre ready to face it.
â
Youâve been staying at Rioâs apartment for a week now, and every night, her hold on you seems to grow tighter. Even in her sleep, her arms remain locked around you, as though her subconscious refuses to let you out of her grasp. Itâs a level of protectiveness youâre not used to, but you canât deny how safe it makes you feel.
The days are a strange mix of normalcy and subtle unease. You run errands, cook together, and share quiet moments on her couch. But in the back of your mind, thereâs always a faint sense of being watched. Youâve chalked it up to paranoiaâRioâs warning had a way of sticking with you, and you tell yourself youâre just imagining things.
Still, itâs hard to ignore the nagging feeling when you start seeing the same person more than once. A tall figure with a hood pulled low over their face, lingering at the edge of your vision. Youâve seen them on the street, at the corner store, and now again as you leave the grocery shop, arms full of bags. You glance over your shoulder, your pulse quickening as you catch sight of them just a few steps behind.
You quicken your pace, gripping the bags tightly. Your heart pounds in your chest as you cut across the street and head for the apartment building. You take a chance and glance back again. Theyâre still following.
By the time you reach Rioâs apartment door, your hands are shaking so badly you almost drop your keys. You fumble with the lock, finally getting the door open and slamming it shut behind you. You lock it, bolting the deadlock for good measure.
You text Rio immediately: I think I was followed. Just got back. Door locked.
The response comes quickly. Stay put. Donât answer the door for anyone. Iâm coming back now.
You breathe out, trying to calm yourself, but as you read her words, a new sound sends a chill down your spine. A faint rattle at the door.
Your stomach drops, and you freeze, staring at the door as the sound grows louder. Itâs not your imagination. Someoneâs trying the handle. Your mind races, and you grab the closest thing within reachâa table lamp. Itâs not exactly a weapon, but itâll have to do. Your grip tightens on the lampâs base as the rattling stops, replaced by a loud bang.
The door crashes open, splintering the frame, and the hooded figure steps inside. Theyâre taller than you thought, their broad frame filling the doorway as they pause, scanning the room. You take a shaky step back, your heart pounding in your ears.
âWell, well,â he says, his voice dripping with malice. âLook whoâs made themselves right at home. You must be the little pet sheâs been keeping around.âÂ
Your mind races, and you instinctively take a step back, trying to put the kitchen island between you and him. âWho the hell are you?â you demand.Â
He smirks, leaning against the doorframe. âYou donât know me, but Rio does. Sheâs the reason I spent the last ten years rotting away in a cell. Thought Iâd pay her back by taking something she cares about.â
He lunges at you with a knife, and you barely manage to swing the lamp, hitting him across the face. He staggers back, but only for a moment, then charges at you again. You fight back, kicking and screaming, but heâs strongâstronger than you expected. He pins you against the wall, one hand around your throat.Â
âThatâs right, scream for her,â he growls. âLetâs see if she gets here in time.âÂ
Youâre gasping for air, your vision blurring, when suddenly, the already broken door is rammed open again, falling off its hinges from the force of the action.Â
Rio barges in, her gun drawn, her expression a mixture of fury and fear. âLet them go,â she says, her voice deadly calm, the kind that promises retribution.Â
The man tightens his grip on you, pulling you in front of him as a shield. âShoot me, and youâll hit them,â he taunts.Â
Rioâs eyes meet yours, and you can see the raw, helpless anger there. Youâve never seen her look so terrified.
The man tightens his grip on you, and your vision starts to black. Your pulse pounds in your ears, the lack of air making your limbs feel heavy. Rio stands frozen in the doorway, her gun unwavering, her eyes locked on the man holding you.
âLet them go,â Rio repeats, her voice low and seething with barely restrained fury.
The man smirks, his grip loosening just enough for you to gasp for air. âYou really think youâve got the upper hand here, bitch? Youâre so predictableâalways running to play the hero.â
Rio doesnât flinch. âThis is the last chance Iâll give you. Let. Them. Go. Now.â
He sneers, then suddenly shoves you away with all his strength. You stumble, hitting the edge of the kitchen counter hard before crumpling to the floor, pain flaring in your side. Rioâs shout of your name echoes through the room, but you can barely focus as you clutch at your ribs, trying to steady your breathing.
The distraction is all Rio needs. She lunges at him before he can turn back to her, knocking the knife from his hand as they crash to the floor. The struggle is brutalâa chaotic blur of punches and grunts as Rio fights with a ferocity youâve never seen before.
He manages to pin her briefly, his hands going for her throat, but Rio uses the momentum to roll them over, her knee pressing into his chest. She grabs the cuff of his wrist and twists him onto his stomach, forcing him to let out a pained shout as she pins his arm behind his back.
âYou shouldâve let them go,â she growls, forcing his face against the floor. He thrashes beneath her, but her grip is unrelenting, her strength fuelled by sheer fury.
She pulls her cuffs from her belt, snapping them onto his wrists with a finality that fills the room. She grabs his hair and yanks his head up, knee still pressing into his back. âAnd now youâre going to pay,â she says coldly before smashing his face into the ground, breaking his nose, and knocking him unconscious.
Her eyes flick to you, her expression softening with worry. âAre you okay?â
Before you can answer, Rio pulls out her phone, calling for backup. Her voice is calm and clipped as she gives the necessary details, but her free hand remains clenched at her side, still shaking from the adrenaline.
When the call ends, she crouches next to you, her hands ghosting over your body, careful not to touch the areas where youâre clearly in pain. âHey, let me see,â she murmurs, her tone gentle now. âWhere are you hurt?â
You wince as you shift, trying to sit up. âJust... my side. Think I hit the counter pretty hard.â
Her jaw tightens, and for a moment, you think she might explode all over againâbut she just exhales, brushing a hand over your hair. âBackupâs on the way. Heâs not going anywhere. I promise youâre safe now.â
You nod weakly, and she leans closer, her forehead briefly touching yours. The tension in her body doesnât ease until the distant wail of sirens signals that help has arrived. Even then, her focus stays on you, her protective presence a shield between you and the man who dared to threaten what she holds most dear.
With the chaos finally under control and the intruder hauled away in handcuffs, Rio keeps a steady arm around you as she guides you back across the hall to your apartment. You can still feel the tremors in your hands, the echo of fear and adrenaline in your veins, but her presence is grounding.
As the door closes behind you, she doesnât let go. Instead, she leads you to the couch, sitting beside you with her arm securely around your shoulders. âYou okay?â she asks softly, her fingers brushing a stray lock of hair from your face.
You nod, leaning into her touch. âYeah. Just... processing.â
A flicker of guilt crosses Rioâs face. âI never shouldâve left you alone.â
âYou couldnât have known,â you reply, reaching up to squeeze her hand. âAnd you came back in time. Thatâs what matters.â
She exhales heavily, her arms tightening around you protectively. For a while, neither of you speak, the silence broken only by the rhythmic sound of her breathing. Then she shifts, her thumb brushing against your knuckles. âI mean it, thoughâIâm not letting you out of my sight for a while.â
You roll your eyes but donât argue. The truth is, you donât mind the idea of her staying close.
As the evening wears on, you begin to feel a sense of normalcy returning. Wrapped in her arms, you finally let your guard down, the weight of the day melting away. You tilt your head up to meet her gaze, your heart skipping as you notice the way sheâs looking at youâsoft yet intent.
âYouâre staring,â you tease, your voice quiet.
âCanât help it,â she murmurs, a faint smirk tugging at her lips. âYouâre kind of hard to look away from.â
Your cheeks flush, but before you can respond, her lips capture yours in a kiss thatâs slow and deliberate, like sheâs savouring every moment. You respond eagerly, your fingers tangling in her hair as she shifts to deepen the kiss.
Somehow, the two of you end up lying on the couch, her body pressing against yours as your hands roam freely, exploring the familiar territory with renewed fervour. She pulls away just long enough to catch her breath, her forehead resting against yours. âBedroom?â she whispers, her voice husky.
You nod, your heart racing as she helps you to your feet. The walk to the bedroom is brief, but each step feels charged with anticipation.Â
You guide her to the bed, her hand sliding into yours as you both move with an unspoken understanding. She lets you press her down gently so sheâs sitting on the mattress, her signature smirk tugging at her lips. âSo, this is how itâs going to be tonight?â she teases, her voice low, challenging but still laced with warmth. Her eyes glint with curiosity, though you can sense sheâs enjoying this shift in control. âGuess I can let you take the lead. Just this once.â
You canât help but laugh softly, leaning down to press a playful kiss to her lips. âCall it a thank you for saving me. Hero perks, right?â You reply, your voice just as teasing.
Her chuckle rumbles low in her throat as her hands settle lightly on your hips, grounding you. âYouâve got an interesting way of saying thanks,â she murmurs, tilting her head to expose her neckâan invitation and a challenge all at once. âBut Iâm not complaining.â
You take her challenge with a grin, leaning down to press your lips to her neck, your kisses starting soft but quickly growing more heated. You find the spot just below her ear where her skin is most sensitive, and when she lets out a low, pleased hum, you focus your attention there. Your tongue darts out, followed by a sharp nip of your teeth, before you suck on her skin, leaving a mark to match the ones she gave you just nights ago.
She tilts her head back with a soft gasp, her fingers tightening their grip on your hips. âYouâre getting good at that,â she murmurs, her tone teasing but breathless. Her words spur you on, and you trail more kisses down her neck, each one deliberate, each one claiming her in your own way.
As your lips continue their path, your hands slide over her body, unbuttoning her shirt and tugging it off. Your eyes roam her, taking in every inch of her toned body and the way her muscles flex under your touch.
âEnjoying the view?â she teases, arching a brow, but thereâs a flush on her cheeks that betrays her confidence.
âAbsolutely,â you reply without hesitation, earning a quiet laugh from her.
Your hands move to the waistband of her pants, your fingers brushing against her skin as you pull them down, leaving her bare before you. You grab her hips, pulling her into you so sheâs perched on the edge of the bed, your legs pushing her knees further apart. Her dark eyes meet yours, filled with a mixture of anticipation and challenge, and you canât help but feel a surge of affection and desire for her all at once.
âYou look good like this,â you say softly, your hands trailing up her thighs as you kneel between them.
Rio leans back on her palms, her smirk widening. âShow me just how grateful you are, sweetheart.â
Looking directly into Rioâs eyes, you drag your tongue through her wetness.Â
âThatâs it,â she breathes, her voice huskier now. Her nails coming to dig lightly into your shoulder as her body shifts beneath you.Â
Hooking your arms under her legs, you push your face further into Rio, tongue pressing firmer against her clit and she rolls her hips at the sensation. Your tongue swirls over and around her bundle of nerves, eliciting more praise. âYouâre so good at this, sweetheart,â she says, her tone uncharacteristically tender.
The praise makes your stomach flip, and you press your thighs together, feeling your arousal soak your underwear.
You notice the subtle change in her demeanour, her usual teasing grin replaced by something softer, more vulnerable. Her hands grip you tightly, but thereâs a gentleness to her touch you hadnât expected. âI donât give up control often. But with you... it feels right.â Her voice falters slightly, and the admission makes your heart ache with tenderness.
As her orgasm builds, she finally lets go entirely, her usual defences falling away. Her head tilts back, her breathy praises and quiet gasps filling the space. After she reaches her peak, she pulls you up to her, her arms wrapping around you tightly as if grounding herself. âYouâre incredible,â she whispers into your ear, her lips brushing against your temple as she catches her breath. âBut donât think Iâm done with you yet.â
Her smirk returns, this time sharper, more determined. Before you can respond, she drags you down on to the bed, flipping you gently onto your back. Her strength is firm but careful, her lips curling in amusement at your surprised expression. âYour turn,â she murmurs, her voice low and promising. She begins to trail kisses down your body, her actions deliberate and knowing. âLet me show you how grateful I am,â she adds, her grin growing as your body arches beneath her touch.
With that, she strips you, her soft hands feeling all over your body. When her fingers trail up your thigh, she lets out a soft chuckle at the feeling of your arousal dripping. âSeems like someone enjoyed the praise.âÂ
You whimper as her fingers press lightly against your clit.
âYou made me feel so good, baby.â Her middle finger slides lower. âSuch a clever girl.â She teases your entrance. âYou know exactly how I like it.â She pushes her finger in.
âYes, fuck, yes,â you moan as it curls inside you. âMore.â
Rio slides another finger in, biting her lip and groaning at how easily you take it. "Oh, darling, youâre taking me so well,â she praises, starting to pump her fingers in and out. She adds a third, and you feel the familiar tightening in your stomach. She picks up the pace, fucking all of the tension from the night out of you both. âYou look so good like this,â she coos.
Arching into her touch, head pushing into the mattress, you keen, âOh fuck. Rio, youâre going to make me cum.â
âThatâs it, sweetheart; youâre doing so well, cum for me,â she whispers against your skin, kissing your neck.
Your mouth falls open, a breathless cry escaping as your orgasm overtakes you. The tension that had been building within you shatters, a wave of heat and pleasure coursing through your body. You arch into her, every nerve alight, the sensation so overwhelming that it renders you momentarily weightless. A strangled gasp follows, your voice raw and unrestrained, her name slipping from your lips like a plea and a prayer all at once.
â
Later, as the two of you lay tangled in the sheets, Rioâs arms wrap tightly around you, holding you, refusing to let go. The tension of the night seems to fade, replaced by a sense of closeness you hadnât fully realised until now. She presses a kiss to the top of your head, her fingers tracing absent patterns along your back.
âYou know,â she begins softly, her voice barely above a whisper. âI donât usually do thisâlet people in, I mean. I donât let myself feel this way.â She hesitates, her grip on you tightening slightly. âBut with you... I canât imagine not having you here.â
Your chest tightens at her words, and you tilt your head to meet her gaze. The raw vulnerability in her eyes makes your heart ache. âRio...â you begin, your voice trembling slightly as your hand brushes against her cheek. âI love you.â
Her lips part in surprise, and then her smile grows, soft and genuine in a way you rarely see. âTook you long enough to say it,â she teases, though her voice is thick with emotion. She leans down, brushing her lips against yours in a kiss thatâs slow and tender. When she pulls back, her eyes lock with yours. âI love you too, you know.â
You crack a small smile. âSo, I guess youâre gonna be the one crashing at my place now, huh? Seeing as itâs your door that got kicked in this time,â you say, breaking the tender moment.
Rio blinks at you, then lets out a soft laugh. âYouâre never going to let me live that down, are you?â
âNot a chance,â you reply, grinning now.

âIâm innocent your honour.â
âYou was caught with the murder weapon in your hands as well as being at the scene of the crime.â
âWould you believe me if I said that I found them like that?â
Y/n was sentenced to prison for twenty five years for murdering two men, she tried to justify her actions by telling the courts that she only killed them because they were rapists but apparently it was wrong of her to take the law into her own hands, who knew?
Little did they know that she had taken the life of just over sixty rapists.
What they donât know wonât hurt them, right?
âSo Y/n, when are you out of the shit hole?â Rogan asked as she sat at the table where Y/n was shuffling cards.
âSoon. Got twenty more years to go.â
âHow long have you already done?â
âFive.â Looking around making sure no one heard her, she leaned further across the table to the woman. âLook RoRo first rule of prison is that you donât ask people what they are in for or how long they are doing.â
âWhat really? I keep asking people.â
âItâs like pointing in cemetery, itâs disrespectful.â
âOh⌠I didnât know.â
âSheâs fucking with you with.â Kandi laughed as she came over to the duo, a cigarette hanging out of her mouth.
âNot about the cemetery thing.â Pointing a card to Rogan. âDis-respect-ful!â
Rogan had been in prison for six months, Y/n took the woman under her wing after seeing the poor girl getting harassed, everyone was quick to leave her alone. âNoted.â
âWhat about you? Iâve got three years left.â Kandi asked as she was pulling a card away from Y/n, just to wind her up.
âHopefully next year.â
âNO!â Kandi laughed as Rogan jumped in her seat as Y/n screamed. âYou two canât leave me, Iâll be all alone in this big scary place!â She then throws herself onto the ground.
âL/n get off the ground!â A guard shouted, she does as sheâs told and salutes the guy.
âPrick. Anyway Iâm only joking, I canât wait to see the back of you both.â Going back to shuffling her cards she looked up at Rogan. âYou need to keep your head down and you might get an early release.â
They have a game of cards whilst Rogan and Kandi talked about their plans for when they get out. Kandi kicked Y/nâs leg and nodded in a direction, Rogan was confused but didnât want to ask.
âRoRo.â
âYeah?â
âRemember, always keep your head down.â Before the woman can answer Y/n stands up, fix her clothes and walks in the direction Kandi had nodded in.
Kandi quickly packs up the cards and shoves them into her pocket, swinging her legs over the bench. âWhen I tell you to get down, you do it.â
âWhy? Whatâs happening.â
âJust watch our crazy little friend.â
Rogans eyes stay focused on Y/n as she makes her way across the yard and walks up to a woman that she knew had only arrived a few days before, with the distance between them she couldnât hear what the two women were saying.
âGet⌠down.â
As the words come out of Kandiâs mouth Rogan watches as Y/n punches the woman in front of her, the two start fighting. Everyone begins to drop to the ground as the alarms started blearing, Rogan flinches when the guards start to shoot, not like Y/n stops her assaults on the woman - only stopping and throwing her hands up in the air when the other woman stops moving.
âWeâll she her in a month or two.â Kandi says quietly as the guards start rounding them all up.
Four months.
She was in solitary confinement for four months, Y/n was no stranger to the six by eight box, the warden had gotten fed up of her behaviour so he cut her yard time in half - only allowing her to have half an hour of fresh air a day.
Not like she cared.
The woman she had attacked played a role in the pain and suffering Y/n and many more had endured, she was a well respected agent who took great pleasure in hurting others especially Y/n. It was as if it was fate that the agent was being sent to the same prison as Y/n was in - not like she believed in things like that, but fate nonetheless.
âY/n!â She only had that as a warning before Kandi jumped over the railing and landed on her. âFuck Iâve missed you so much!â
âIâve missed you too.â Y/n wheezed out. âBut get your fat arse off me.â
ââM not fat.â
âNo but that arse of yours is.â
âStop flirting with me, Iâll start thinking youâre in love with me.â
âWeâre marriedâŚâ
âNot anymore, I divorced you when you was in the hole. Sorry.â
âAnd there I thought youâd wait for me.â Finally standing up Y/n looked around, frowning when she couldnât see Rogan. Asking Kandi where their friend was, she went from being happy to be back in the wing to angry.
âS-she was attacked two weeks ago, sheâs in medical.â
âWho?â
âY/nâŚâ
âWho Kandi.â
âYouâve just gotten back.â
âIâm not going to ask again.â
Sighing and shaking her head Kandi said the name of the woman who had attacked their friend Y/n spun around in the direction of the womanâs cell. The alarms were quick to go off and the guards making their way in to the wing, an angry Y/n being dragged out.
âIâll see you soon.â She shouted to Kandi, the latter just nods and makes her way back to her cell muttering idiot under her breath.
Itâd be another four months since sheâd see anyone again.
Y/n tiptoed her way over to where Kandi and Rogan was sitting at their bench, the other inmates raising their eyebrows as she puts her finger to her lips. They had all grown accustomed to her weird behaviour and how quickly she can go from laughing to beating someone up.
âGive me all your money!â She screamed behind the two friends, Rogan jumped whilst Kandi didnât flinch.
Making her way to her seat she smiled at Rogan who happily returned the expression, she looked at Kandi and noticed she wasnât looking at her. âWhatâs wrong?â
Kandi whispered into Rogans ear, Rogan then looked between her two friends nervously. âShe said sheâs not talking to you.â
âWhy? Buttercup donât be like this.â
âShe said that youâve been gone for a long time and things have changed.â
âChanged how? Nothings changed Kands, I promise I wonât go back in the hole.â
âYou said that last time! And the time before that and the time before, oh and guess-â Kandi snapped.
âI get it. I get it okay? Iâm sorry alright. I just couldnât let Anderson get away with hurting our RoRo.â
âI know but you promise all the time Y/n, youâve been in the hole more times than anyone here and thatâs saying something.â
âI like it, kinda feels like Iâm home.â
âDonât be such a dick Y/n, Iâm being serious.â
âSo am I!â It was her turn to snap, smoothing out her hair she apologised. âLook Iâm really sorry Kandice, I swear to you I wonât do anything to get me into trouble- no I mean it honestly!â
âPromise?â
âPromise.â
And just like that everything was fine between the pair. Kandi and Rogan told her everything that had happened in the eight months she was in solitary, which surprisingly wasnât a lot other than a couple of fights happening.
Y/nâs left eye twitched as she stood in front of her cell. Someone had come into her place and trashed it. The whole wing went quiet as they all saw her standing there still as if she was a statue.
âWho?â
âY/n, remember what you promised me.â Kandi said from the side of her.
âWho Kandi?â
âY/n-â
âWHO FUCKING TRASHED MY CELL!â Everyone flinched as she shouted. She was getting angrier the longer everyone remained quiet.
âThat would have been me, sweet cheeks.â The voice made her skin crawl. As she turned around she saw the guard who made it his sole mission to torment her after she turned him down.
âYou-â
âY/n, youâve just gotten out.â Kandi hissed under her breath.
âFucking-â
âY/n!â
âPRICK!â His smile made her want to kill him right there and then. âBut⌠itâs okay, I get it. No I really do.â Leaning over the railing she smiled at him. âSince catching your wife getting her brains fucked out of her by the fucking mailman - the same man she left you for, youâve been real lonely, I hope you enjoyed my underwear around that small piece of useless skin that you call a dick.â The whole wing erupts in loud cheering - even some of the guards laughing - Y/n walked into her cell and started cleaning up.
The next morning the trio made their way to the rec room after having their breakfasts, sat at a table playing a card game Y/n caught a glimpse of a familiar face on the tv screen from the corner of her eye.
Her breathing picked up and her palms started to sweat, all she could see was so many different memories flash in front of her. It was like she was right there in the base alongside him. Memories she tried so hard to keep locked up right at the back of her mind under lock and key came flooding back. She could hear someone call her name but she couldnât pin point where the voice was coming from or who by. Only snapping out of her memories when she felt a hand smack her across the face.
âShit⌠Y/n I-I didnât mean to do that.â Kandi stuttered, looking between Y/n and Rogan fear evident in her eyes.
âItâs-Iâm okay. You smack like a girl by the way.â Chuckling nervously Kandi apologised but Y/n waved her off. âI need to get out of here.â She whispered to her two friends.
âWe can go outside.â Rogan offered.
âNo I mean I need to get out of prison, preferably like now.â
âWhat are you going to do, walk up to the warden and ask if he can let you out earlier?â Kandi laughed.
âDo you think he would?â
âNo you idiot!â
âWhy? Iâm well behaved.â The girls in front of her raise their eyebrows in unison. âOkay maybe Iâve not been the best inmate but I can be good.â
They all knew that was a lie.
âY/n be rational, you escape youâll be wanted, youâll get caught and have more years added to your sentence.â
âNo because Iâll leave and then Iâll come back once Iâm finished doing what I need to do.â
âYou-I-Rogan deal with her.â
âI erm⌠Y/n youâll be in so much trouble.â
âIâm doing twenty five years Ro, canât get in more fucking trouble than that. Look Iâll be gone for a few days and Iâll hand myself in, theyâll probably give me an extra year or two which is nothing really. But I need your twos help.â
Kandi knew her well enough to know that she was going to escape with or without their help, despite not liking it she knew Y/n wouldnât do anything without a reason. âWhy?â
âI need to see someone. Kands I wouldnât be doing this if it wasnât important. So please help me.â
âFuck. Fine, okay Iâll help you.â
âIâll help too.â Rogan smiled.
âNo, you canât ruin your chance at an early release.â
âIâm helping.â
As Y/n watched the two girls argue about whether or not Rogan was allowed to help she came up with a plan. Gaining their attention she told them the plan, and off they went.
âThis is such a bad idea.â Kandi whispered watching Y/n climb through the tiny window of the guards locker room.
âItâs a brilliant idea.â
âJust hurry up!â
âStop distracting me!â
Finding the locker she needed, she opened it up and searched for car keys, hanging them out of the small window to Kandi she climbed out. Kandi was about to unlock the car when Y/n wrapped her arms around her.
âIâll come back I promise.â
âWhy? You could be free and have a life.â
âLike you said, Iâll be wanted and Iâll end up getting caught. Plus all Iâve ever known is a life in prisons so I wonât do good out there in the real world.â She shrugged. âIâll see you in a few days. Oh, Kandice?â
âYeah?â
âThank you.â
âBe careful.â
Keeping an eye out she helped Y/n get into the boot of the car and locking it again she ran over to the window and climbed in to put the keys back, Rogan was waiting for her when she came back out and made a phone call - using the phone that Y/n asked forced someone to borrow them.
âHi, is this Mr Boyd? Iâm sorry to say this sir but your apartment has been broken into. Your neighbour rang the police. Yes. Thatâs fine sir.â Not even five minutes ago by when they see the guard running past their hiding spot and driving away.
âThe crazy bitch has done it.â Kandi laughed, wrapping her arm around Rogans shoulder she kisses her friends head.
Y/n had to bite her lip to force herself not to scream as Boyd drove like a maniac, she kept banging her head and it was starting to hurt. As the car finally pulled to a stop she slowly opened the boot door before he got out and locked her inside. Only climbing out when she figured the coast was clear, she falters when she makes eye contact with a child playing across the street - the kid waves and giggles at her. Putting her finger to her lip she smiles when the kid nods.
Hiding behind the wall she waits for Boyd to leave which wasnât long, she breaks into his apartment. First thing she does is make herself a sandwich before sitting on the sofa, putting her feet on the coffee table and watch tv - it was nice to watch something without people talking loudly in the background. After showering she walked into his bedroom and went straight to the wardrobe in hopes there was still clothes from his wife. Luck seemed to be on her side because there was a few clothes left.
Looking at the photo of Boyd with who Y/n assumed was his parents she smiles. âYou trash my place, Iâll trash yours.â
Within minutes the whole apartment was trashed. Not a single room was left unharmed by the bat she was using.
Stealing some money she found she left the apartment and made her way to the bus stop. Standing outside of the library with people walking around her not knowing who she was or the fact that she had broken out of prison, she went inside.
âHi.â Leaning over the counter to see the name tag more clearly. âPaige, I would like to use a computer.â
âDo you have a library card?â
âI donât Iâm afraid.â
âYou need a library card.â
âTo use a computer?â
âYeah.â
âBut I donât have one and I really need to use it.â
âI can give you one now.â
âI donât want a card, okay. Iâm never going to come back here so itâs pointless, I just need the computer for less than ten minutes.â Y/n had to bite her cheek in order to not shout at the poor girl who was just doing her job.
âBut Iâm not allowed.â
âI wonât tell if you donât.â Paige nods and takes her over to where the computers were and used her login details, reminding Y/n that she only had ten minutes she rushed back to the desk.
Sheâs done within minutes.
Going back up to Paige she asks for directions which the girl offers, she thanks her and hands over twenty dollars that she stole from Boydâs apartment. âFor the computer.â She informs when the girl frowns.
The walk to her destination took longer than expected due to having to keep ducking down alleyways and into shops when the police went by, she knew the guards would have realised that she was gone by now and that there would be officers looking for her.
She had to admit the building was rather impressive.
âExcuse me miss, you need to sign in.â The man said from behind the desk.
âOh silly me, my boyfriend told me that I could just go straight up.â
âWhoâs your boyfriend?â
âTony Stark.â
âHeâs marriedâŚâ
âYeah, Iâm his mistress. Donât tell the wife though.â She winks and signs her name. âCan I go up now?â
âY-yes miss.â
âThank you. Oh, which button do I press? Normally he does it.â Thanking him once again she makes her way to the elevator and up she goes.
Following the voices she stood outside a room where the Avengers were sitting around laughing and talking. She sees him. She doesnât realise that everyone sees her and stops talking.
âWho are you?â A red head said.
Taking that as her signal she walks inside, her eyes still on the man she broke out of prison just to see.
"I had to see this for myself. To know it's true.â All their heads snap to the person she was looking at.
Bucky.
âBuck⌠do you know who this is?â A blond man said as he sat further up in his seat.
âI-yeah, her names Y/n we were at the same base together. W-what are you doing here?â
âLike I said, I wanted to see this for myself.â A small smile on her lips, she started to pick at the skin around her nails starting to feel stupid for what sheâs done because he didnât seem too pleased to see her.
âYou left me.â Bucky whispered.
âI-I know but I tried to get you out, I swear.â
âYou left me there Y/n!â Before anyone could react Bucky had Y/n pinned to the wall by her throat and began squeezing. âWe promised each other that weâd get out together! We promised.â His eyes filling up with tears.
âI tried James! You wouldnât come with me.â Hearing that Bucky loosens his hold around her neck. âI got into your cell but you wouldnât listen, I tried to get you to stand but you wouldnât move, y-you broke my arm James. My opening was closing an-and I had to take it and Iâve regretted it every day but I did try I swear.â
His hold on her neck loosens until heâs just holding her, tears starting to fall from his pretty eyes, regret consuming him when he looks at the mark already forming on her neck, regret from hating her from the moment he found out she had left him there to rot, regret and anger at hearing he had broken her arm - hurting the one person even the Winter Soldier couldnât hurt. âI-I-â
Y/n silences him by wrapping her arms around his neck and pulls him into her. Memories of her holding him in this way flashing through their minds as Bucky clung to her.
The only sound coming from the once lively room was Buckyâs muffled cries and Y/n apologising.
âOh by the way Tony Iâm your mistress.â Y/n informed him as she pointed her fork in his direction.
âWhat?â
âI told the guy downstairs that I was your girlfriend and he told me youâre married. Which honestly I donât think I can be in this relationship anymore so itâs over.â Everyone chuckles aside from Tony whoâs still trying to figure out whatâs going on.
âSo Y/n, what have you been doing since getting away from Hydra?â Natasha asked. Bless their little hearts they tried to introduce themselves to her but she knew exactly who was who beforehand.
âI-fuck this is the best meal Iâve had in five years, thanks Sam. But anyway I was moving around a lot, may or may not have killed some agents that I knew were Hydra. So yeah not much really.â
Ever since Y/n showed up he couldnât take his eyes off her, she looked so different yet the same, she was still the most beautiful woman he ever laid eyes on. When he was told she had escaped he felt different emotions, he was proud that she had gotten away from the horrors they were subjected too and forced to commit, he was angry that she left him behind since they had promised each other that theyâd get away together and try to live a normal life - whatever that meant for the two of them. He was devastated at the fact she had left him behind, he thought that everything they had gone through together and the feelings they had for each other was all lies.
He got beaten for days after she escaped because he attacked the guards when they tried to stop him from going to her cell, he stood there at the doorway expecting to see her sitting on the wrecked mattress with a pretty smile on her face or at least her laying there with bruises after a beating but it was empty other than the mattress and disgusting toilet.
Bucky started to believe that she was dead just because he couldnât believe that she left him on his own. For the two years he was there without his partner, his only friend, the woman who he had fallen in love with despite their surroundings he never put up a fight, he did everything they asked of him and more, he didnât care if he died on missions - hell he wanted to die just so he could finally see Y/n again.
But here she was, sitting right next to him laughing along with his friends, looking just as beautiful as the last time he saw her. All he wanted to do was wrap his arms around her and never let go again, he wanted to kiss her just the way they use to whenever they were alone and knew that no one was watching.
âRight, well I best be off.â Y/n spoke bringing Bucky back to the present.
âW-what?â
âYeah sorry, Iâve gotta go somewhere before I head home.â
âIâll take you.â Everyone could hear the desperation in his voice but he didnât care, he wasnât ready to say goodbye to her just yet.
âI-okay. It was nice meeting everyone.â
âYou can come back whenever you want.â Steve smiled, Y/n nodded her head knowing that she couldnât but what they didnât know wouldnât hurt them.
Saying her goodbyes, Bucky took her down to the garage and ever the gentleman he opened the car door for her. Telling him the address of where she wanted to go, he didnât question it just driving to the destination. He noticed that every time a police car went by that she put her head down when he asked she just shook her head and smiled at him.
He followed behind her as she searched the rows of headstones, he sees her face light up when she spots the correct one she was looking for.
Kneeling down on the damp grass she placed her hand on the thick stone. âHey beautiful, yeah I know Iâve not seen you in five years but I couldnât get here. Iâm sorry. Oh I want you to meet someone.â Waving Bucky over, he stands by her side with his hands in his pockets looking at the name, date of birth and death. âThis is James, the man I told you about. Bucky this is Evie.â
âWho is she?â
âI found her two weeks after I escaped Hydra, she was along seven other women they⌠they were in a sex ring. I managed to get them all out and got them to safety, I know the other girls are in protection and are now safe.â
âW-what happened to Evie?â
âThe dark thoughts got too much for her, I didnât get there in time to save her. She had taken her own life. I let her down after I promised that I would always be there.â A dry laugh falls from her mouth as she wipes a tear away. âBut then again Iâve never been able to keep my promises, have I?â
âY/n-â
âItâs true though isnât it? Iâve got two girls back at home expecting me to keep a promise I made and I donât want to break it but I really donât want to go back, you know?â
âYou have kids?â
âFuck no! Jesus Bucky, me as a mum? Can you imagine? Terrible.â She laughs though her heart aches at the image of her being a mother, she wanted kids but that was before Hydra, before being sent to prison for killing the two so called men who had took it in turns to rape Evie. Donât get it wrong, she didnât regret doing it and would do it again in a heartbeat but she knew she could never be a mum now.
âYouâve always been caring Y/n.â
âAnd? That doesnât mean-you know what? It doesnât matter, I need to go otherwise Iâm going to be in even more trouble than I already am. But it was good to see you again James, it really was. I hope you all the best.â
Bucky grabbed her free hand as her other was on the headstone. âYou donât have to go! You can stay with me at the tower an-and you could be a part of the team.â
âIâm not a hero James. Never have been, never will be. Iâm the person you and your friends go after, I destroy everything.â
âNo, no youâre a good person Y/n, I know you!â
Putting her hand on his cheek she shakes her head. âNo you donât.â Her face lights up very quickly when blue and red lights go by. âIâve gotta go now James. Iâm sorry I didnât get you out, Iâm sorry I wasnât strong enough to stay there with you. I hope you all the goodness in the world.â Standing on her tiptoes she presses her lips to his in a quick kiss. âOne for the road.â
Bucky stands there motionless as Y/n presses a kiss to the headstone, giving him one last smile before walking off.
The warden went bright red in the face as he shouted at Y/n. She couldnât see what the problem was as she came back. She went back to court and her defence lawyer told the judge that she had only escaped so she could say goodbye to a dear friend, and that she had come back willingly and she didnât run like most would.
The judge handed her an extra eighteen months to her twenty year sentence.
Kandi and Rogan saw her two months later after she came out of solitary confinement, both of them instantly wrapping their arms around her and refusing to let go.
When Bucky got back to the tower that night he went straight into his room and refused to speak to anyone, he opened up the wardrobe and grabbed his backpack from the back, moving to sit on his bed. He found the dark red notepad and held it close to him, he remembered the day he got it - he was on a solo mission, as he was about to leave the office following the man that was trying to run away when a dark red notepad caught his eye, picking it up he flicked through the empty pages before putting it in one of his many pockets. Getting back to the base in the early hours of the next morning he kept it hidden along with a pencil he had stolen, once in the safety of his cell he began writing Y/nâs name over and over again, he then wrote all the little facts that he could remember from what she told him about herself. He kept the notepad with him at all times when he wasnât on missions and when he was on ice he kept it hidden in his mattress.
Since Steve found him in that rundown apartment building and everything that followed Bucky didnât read what was in the notepad, it was too painful for him but now that he knew she was alive he found himself reading what he wrote all those years ago.
He soon fell asleep with the notepad clutched closely to his chest.
A couple of weeks later the team were once again sitting around in the living room, when FRIDAY put the tv on and told the team they needed to watch the news.
âThe prison behind me holds some of the most dangerous women in the country, one of the inmates who was sentenced to twenty five years for murdering two men escaped last month.â The reporter spoke, none of them understood why FRIDAY thought they needed to watch that was until a photo appeared on the right side of the screen. âY/n L/n escaped and was on the run for two days, remarkably she walked back into prison and handed herself in. L/n has already served five years of her sentence when the esca-â
Steve paused the screen, all their eyes trained on the mugshot of the woman who showed up to the tower. A large smile on her face with no look of remorse behind her eyes as they took her photo. Bucky sits there and shakes his head as he remembers wondering why the meal Sam cooked was the best she had in five years, or when she mentioned that she hadnât been to see Evie.
âDid you know?â Wanda asked him.
âNo but it makes sense now though.â
âHow do you mean?â Sam asked, so Bucky explains. âI wonder who she killed.â
âI donât know but Iâm going to visit her.â
Steve went with him to see Y/n but was turned away due to her being in solitary, the warden smirked as he told the pair that they could come back in two months to see her.
The trio was sitting in Kandiâs cell when a guard called for Y/n, with a huff she went to see what they wanted, her eyes squinting when they said she had a visitor.
âWhat do you mean?â
âI mean that you have someone here to visit you.â He said sarcastically, unlocking the door so she could come out. Putting the cuffs on her wrist he gave her no time to try and walk freely as he started to pull on the cuffs. Leading her down to a visit room he pushed her inside once the door was unlocked.
âThereâs no need to keep pushing me you-â
âYou, what?â
âIf you hadnât interrupted me youâd know I was going to call you a cunt.â
âYouâve got a fucking mouth on you, donât you.â
âMe? Never.â He goes to open his mouth but closes it, he just smiles at her instead and leaves the room. Turning around she raises her eyebrow at seeing Bucky and his friends on the other side of the table. âFancy seeing you guys here, did you get lost?â
âNo, we didnât get lost.â Bucky says fiddling with him metal fingers.
âOh, itâs just because I donât get visitors so.â She trails off.
âWhy didnât you tell me you were in prison?â
âDidnât think it was important.â She shrugged.
âNot important? You murdered two men!â Y/n frowned at the way Bucky raised his voice at her, hating the way he looked at her as if she was a monster.
âTwo men who deserved it! They raped Evie.â She snapped, smacking her hand on the table. âIâve never killed anyone that didnât deserve it and you know it.â
Bucky frowns and instantly feels guilty for raising his voice. âIâm sorry.â
âWhatever. Are we done here?â
âDid you really escape just to see me?â
âYep, stupid I know.â Before Bucky could respond Tony spoke up and asked how long had been added to her sentence. âEighteen months, why?â
âCap, you thinking what Iâm thinking?â
âYeah but will it work?â Y/n frowns as Steve and Tony continued to have a conversation between themselves, giving Bucky a questioning look he shrugs - not once taking his eyes off her.
âWhat are you two talking about?â Bucky asked them.
âGetting mouthy here out of this place.â Tony points over to Y/n, raising his eyebrow. âIn the correct way.â
The door opens and before anyone could speak the guard comes in and drags Y/n out of the room saying âtimes up.â Bucky clenched his fists at seeing her being manhandled, Steve put his hand on his arm in hopes to calm him down - giving him a look that asked him not to do anything stupid.
A week later Y/n was told she had a visitor, with an annoyed huff she followed the guards, not even making a single comment as they tugged on the cuffs wrapped tightly around her wrist. In the week that had passed since her first visit, she couldnât understand what Tony said - why would they want to get her out? What would they want with her? What would be the point in letting someone like her out in public when all sheâs done is kill people?
Once again sheâs pushed into the same room as before when she looks up she sees Bucky clenching his jaw and another man sitting next to him. âBack again?â
âThis is-â
âNick Fury, yeah I know who he is.â She cuts Bucky off. âI was currently in the middle of finding out what kind of flower I am based on my personality, so can we speed this up?â
Fury chuckles whilst nodding, pushing a folder across the table he gestures for her to sit. âYou need to sign these papers.â
âWhat are they?â
âYou sign these, youâll be agreeing to you coming into SHIELDS custody.â
âAnd why would I do that?â
âY/n youâll be free-â Bucky says.
âBut I wouldnât be would I?â
âAlright you wonât be in prison-â
âYet Iâll be in a cell-â
âYou wonât be.â Fury cuts in. âYouâll do the rest of your sentence under SHIELD, meaning youâll work for us, help us stop Hydra and other organisations that are threatening to our world. Sign this and weâll get you out of here within a few days.â
Bucky gave her a reassuring smile and an encouraging nod but she wasnât quite sure if she wanted to sign, sheâll just be moving from one prison to another regardless of how they dress it up of what sheâll be doing for them. âY/n?â
âI have two conditions.â
Fury sighs and rubs his eyes. âWhat are they?â
âKandi and Rogan.â
âWho are they?â
âMy friends, I want them out too.â
âI canât do that Y/n.â
âThen Iâm not signing.â
âY/n theyâre in prison for a reason.â Bucky tried.
âPetty crimes, the both of them. Kandiâs got three more years and Rogan can get out in a few months, itâs not hard to pull some strings.â
âTheyâre criminals.â
âSo am I.â
Fury looks at Bucky then at Y/n. âAlright. Iâll see what I can do.â
âIf they arenât following me out of this shit hole then Iâm not coming Fury.â
âYouâre already the biggest pain in my backside.â He mumbled, Bucky chuckled as Y/n smiled proudly. âIâm gonna make a phone call, whatâs their last names.â
Telling him their names she watched as Fury left the room leaving her alone with Bucky who had yet to take his eyes off her. She looked everywhere other than at him. He squinted his eyes at her as she tried to suppress the smile that wanted to make an appearance. She wasnât going to back down - she knew that, Bucky knew that - but she was cracking and he knew it.
âJust give in.â
âNope.â
âCome on, you know you want too.â She didnât need to look at him already knowing he had a smug smile on his lips.
âDonât know what you mean.â Bucky rolled his eyes and leaned over the table, his hand reaching out to hold hers, her eyes snapped from the stain on the wall to him. âThatâs cheating.â
âYouâve never been good at that game.â He smiled softly. âIf Fury canât get your friends out of here, youâll be an idiot not to sign these papers Y/n.â
âI canât just leave them here, not after all weâve been through.â
âI get it, I do but youâll be wasting your life away.â
âNever had much of a life before anyway.â She shrugged, flipping her hands over so their fingers would link together. âIâm really sorry James.â
âFor what?â
âFor leaving you there, for not going back to the base earlier, for not telling you the truth about.â she gestures to the room they were in. âJust everything. Iâm sorry for everything.â
Bucky feels his heart tug at her words, he forgave her the second he laid eyes on her again after seven years without seeing her. He forgave her when she explained, so he didnât understand why she was apologising again. âW-what do you mean when you said for not going back to the base earlier?â
âI-I found us a safe place to call home it was off grid and in the middle of nowhere, it was perfect for us. I went back to get you, I hoped that you would listen this time.â She chuckled. âI got inside and it was chaos, the agents were dropping like flies and I wasnât even the one doing anything, but anyway I get to your cell and it was empty, an agent shot me in the chest and told me that you had gone rogue, that it was a stupid idea to send the Soldat to kill his best friend but I thought she was lying and you were killed.â The agent she was talking about was the very same one she attacked in the yard, her face dropped as she came face to face with the person she shot in the chest and left for dead.
âYou-you got shot in the chest? Y/n!â
âWhat? Iâm still alive arenât I?â
âBut how?â
âBecause the thought of you still alive kept me alive.â
âFunny.â
âHilarious.â She winked at him, once again he rolls his eyes at her. âIâm joking, I donât know why or how I survived but I did. But anyway a week later I find the two men who hurt Evie and killed them, then got caught, got arrested and then sent here.â
Fury comes back into the room just as Bucky was about to say something. âAll three of you will be released tomorrow morning as long as you sign these papers.â
âTomorrow? But itâs sponge cake for dessert tomorrow.â She frowns, both men give her a deadpan look. âSponge cake!â
âWell donât sign and stay here then.â
âYou was meant to say âdonât worry Y/n Iâll get you a sponge cakeâ and Iâll then go âoh no itâs fine Furyâ and then you was going to say âno, no itâs fine, you deserve it for being the absolute bestâ but no you had to ruin it.â Furyâs lips twitched and she could see that he was trying not to smile, Bucky on the other hand was having to bite his fist in order to stop himself from laughing.
âYou going to sign or not?â
âThe girls walk free?â
âYes.â
âWhere do I sign?â
Kandi and Rogan looked confused when their cell doors were opened and the guards told them they have five minutes to get their things, thinking they had done something wrong and were getting moved they frowned when Y/n stood in front of their cells with her own backpack slung over her shoulder.
âWhatâs going on?â Kandi whispered as they stood behind Y/n, her and Rogan were holding hands, both nervous about what was happening.
âDo you trust me?â Y/n asked turning around to the pair.
âOf course we do.â
âThen donât worry.â The doors came open and they were walked towards the large gates, the warden made a comment under his breath which Y/n raised her eyebrow to him daring him to say it louder but he put his head down. Y/n stepped outside first smiling when she saw Bucky standing there with the rest of the Avengers and Fury. Frowning when she realised that the girls werenât right behind her. âCome on.â
âWhatâs happening?â
âYouâre free.â Both her friends frowning in confusion. âI got you out. Fly my pretty butterfliesâ
âIs this a joke?â
âNope. You can stay if-â
âNo! Weâre coming.â They both rush out and run up to her.
âSo⌠now what?â Y/n asked Bucky who looks at Fury.
âWe go to the tower and these two need to sign some papers and then they can go and live their lives.â
âRight. Well letâs go then.â
Sam and Wanda lead the two girls towards the jet with Y/n following when Fury calls her name and holds out his hand.
âSponge cake! Knew you loved me Nicky.â
After a long hug and saying goodbye eight times Kandi and Rogan were taken to their families, leaving with a promise that theyâll see each other again.
Bucky couldnât sit still as Y/n was in a room talking to Fury, his knee kept bouncing the longer he waited, he ran his fingers through the short strands of his hair tugging lightly in annoyance. Nearly four hours later Steve came and sat next to him, both sitting in silence - that was until Steve broke it.
âDid you love her?â
âI did. Still do I guess.â Leaning forward on his knees he looked to the side at his best friend. âIs that stupid?â
âNo.â Chuckling softly, Steve leaned back in his seat. âI still love Peggy and she married someone else and had a family. Itâs not stupid Buck.â
âThey could never break her, you know? Even with the chair and I think thatâs what drew me to her. She helped me remember things, always reminding me who I was after it was my turn in that fucking chair.â Bucky paused and wiped his hands down his face. âShe told me she came back for me and this whole time I thought she was dead.â
âBuckâŚâ
âItâs fine. Iâm fine. I-I just wish things were different.â
Steve didnât know what to say so he put a reassuring hand on his best friend back and let the silence take over once again. An hour later Y/n and Fury emerged from the room, Fury greeted the two super soldiers before leaving the three alone.
âAre you okay?â Bucky asked worriedly.
âIâm good, just had to tell Nicky Boo all my deepest darkest secrets.â She smiled although it wasnât easy bringing up things that she had tried to keep hidden, Fury put his hand on hers when it started to shake as she told him the things she had done.
âNicky Boo?â Steve questioned, amusement lacing his voice and face.
âYeah, but I donât think he likes his new nickname.â She shrugs, laughing along with the two men.
âRight well Iâll let you two catch up. Welcome to the team Y/n.â
âThanks Steve.â As the blond walks away Bucky once again couldnât take his eyes off her, and like last time Y/n looked everywhere other than him.
âYou really have a staring problem.â She mumbled.
âIâm scared.â Bucky whispered, his hand reaching out to hold hers.
âWhy?â
âBecause if I look away Iâm scared youâll disappear and this is all a dream.â
Squeezing his hand Y/n steps closer and puts her hand on his chest, feeling his heart beating steadily. âItâs not a dream Bucky. Iâm right here, I promise Iâm not going to disappear.â
Bucky sighed a breath of relief at her words, putting his forehead against hers he closed his eyes. âI missed you so much.â
âI missed you too, and Iâm still so sor-â She goes to apologise again but Bucky didnât want to hear it, so he kissed her. Both of them sighing softly as their lips finally touched after so long.
Slowly opening his eyes Bucky smiled. âItâs not a dream.â
âHowâd you know?â
âBecause normally I wake up just before we kiss.â
âAw youâve been dreaming of me?â
âShut up.â
Y/n burst out laughing as his cheeks turned red, he rolled his eyes before pulling her closer to him and kissing her more passionately than before. Neither one of them knew really what was in store for them but they didnât care about that, not now that they were back in each otherâs arms.

LAST SHOT - ego death
synopsis : interning at a random ship in space sounds like a great idea for your paper. don't you think? part -> 2 | other chapters -> 1 3 ?
characters : anya, swansea, daisuke, curly, jimmy, gn!reader (daisuke x reader implied)
content : continuation of part 1! i suggest you to read part 1 first, but if you're insistent, you can read this as a stand alone! descriptions of panicking, minor character death, the birthday party (pre crash), and . jimmy. ew
wc : 4.6k+
before you read, reader is : cold, non expressive, and the worst crime of all, a psychology major...
i tried to stick to canon interpretation as much as possible, but i put in some hcs about anya's background ^^; it's only mentioned in one part of this story, but if that bothers you, you can skip! it's not that imp in this chapter !!
- today, you werenât woken up by your body alarm.
- normally, you would wake up earlier than everyone else, and by the time you folded your âbedâ properly by the door, anyaâs also awake. thatâs how you get to greet each other first at the start of every day. (which daisuke tries to do, but you could tell that heâs going to ignore his alarm for the first few minutes .. as usual.)
- instead, footsteps wake you up.Â
- they get closer, and closer, and -
âwhy the fuck are you sleeping in the hallways again?â
your eyes blink open, slowly. itâs been a few hours after curfew. even with that much sleep in your system - not an ounce of sleep seeped into your body, actually - you manage to seem completely awake at the voice; like you were expecting it.
because you were. youâre surprised it took this long for him to approach you.
peering up at the figure, you find your co-pilot standing before you, looming.
âyou have a bed, donât you? why donât you use it?â
itâs a valid question. but you canât just say that he was the reason directly, right? no, he would throw a tantrum. youâre not afraid of what will happen to you - youâre an intern, after all. but the fate of possibly being stuck with an angry manchild for the next few months was in your hands.Â
so for now, you hold his glare.Â
âwas i bothering you?â
if your tone was too sharp, you could just excuse it for the âsleepinessâ.Â
he seems to get that you wouldnât falter that easily. if he answered anything remote to a yes or a no - he knows that you would just push further.
âyouâre going to make more work for anya.âÂ
so , he diverts the conversation.Â
itâs a smart tactic, and you would enjoy conversations like these with your friends. but this man before you is not a friend; you hold nothing but wariness for him. heâs trying to get a reaction out of you, and youâre not going to provide that.
âi think i can take care of myself well enough.â
you look at him, up - then down after you say those words.Â
âunlike you.â
his scowl only got worse, and by now, youâre already all cozied up, and ready to fall back asleep - even if it was only for show. you take a last peek at him, before ending the conversation.
ânight.â
after a few moments, you can hear his footsteps getting further away, and you inwardly sigh.
you donât dream that night.Â
but you fall asleep with a smile on your face, and to you, thatâs good enough.
- after that little confrontation of yours, jimmy has not held back in his hostility against you.
- instead of bringing down people in your presence, he had opted to bring you down as well during your psych tests.
- you donât respond, and maintain your usual attitude when it comes to processing his psych tests.
- however, around others, he simply stares daggers into you. there is no bark; nor bite.
- heâs not scared of what others might do once they know - just.. mildly unconvinced - or so he thinks. thatâs your hypothesis.
- because, what would the crew do if they knew that one of their members was being bullied only because they were resting unusually, bothering no one, and doing no harm?
- you hold it above his head every single moment; wordlessly.
- and you both know it.
- you win for the moment. but youâll still have to watch out for him.
- nowadays, your routine.. has changed a bit.Â
- unlike before, youâd wake up an hour earlier than the crew, fold your blankets, place them in the room, and then check on your supplies.Â
- the bag filled with airtight seal snacks, still very abundant due to your careful rationing, check.
-your already half-filled journal, filled with months worth of research and journaling, check.
- your thrifted power banks (they are a bit more drained than you expected), check.
- your ds with additional stickers on it (mainly from daisuke, but you managed to get one from swansea. itâs a warning label for one of his tools..), check
- your taser and gun (never used, and hidden for safety), check..
- and your emotional support mp3.Â
- you stare at this particular item often.
- it contained the ambiance that came from your favourite part of town. your local cafe, the buzz of the aircon in your apartment, the library, and the rain. and not to mention, your favourite books. itâs perfect.
- now to think of it, you really do miss the rain.Â
- the closest you got to rain here was.. the showers. pretty sad.
- after doing your item checkup, you head towards the lounge with anya right after youâve showered.
- the communal shower is more private now, thanks to you placing an occupied and not occupied sign - right on the small window on the bathroom door. (why was that there, anyway?)
- you both eat breakfast; then either relax there, or youâd immediately go to the medical bay. sometimes, if you had time, youâd play games with anya and daisuke until itâs time to start your day. the latter is increasingly more rare occasion by the day, though.
- sometimes curly comes in right after you and anya. sometimes, itâs daisuke who comes in, pleading for you to play with him before the day starts..
 - and on very rare occasions, swansea comes in first.Â
- before doing anything, he visits the coffee machine and grabs a can of.. whateverâs available, at this point.
- .. now youâve nearly ran out of coffee.Â
- you think thatâs horrifying. a whole vending machineâs worth of coffee..Â
- but to be fair, you have done the same in exam seasons. and youâre not quite dead yet, so..
- eh. maybe you shouldnât be too worried.
- your daily work includes: learning as much as you could from anya, writing down your conclusions/observations in your journal (for academic purposes), and checking on medical supplies.Â
- most of the time, people who come in request for medicine, or have sustained some cuts/bruises. people rarely get sick, and when they do, youâve tried your best to stop them from working. itâs dangerous to work whilst sick, especially considering that everyoneâs job is pretty .. dangerous.
- think about it. if you had to work as a mechanic whilst youâre sick, what are the chances of damaging the ship? and if you were piloting while youâre sick.. the ship might crash.
- you donât want to entertain the possibilities, so you end up forcing them to their rooms.
- at the end of the day, you take another shower, before changing into another set of pony express uniform.Â
- youâre starting to get tired of looking at the same yellow and reds. perhaps you couldâve brought more personal clothing..Â
- after lounging in the living room (what daisuke likes to call it), you pull your blankets out once again, and sleep.
- that has been your routine for these past few months.
- itâs not that bad. surface wise - itâs not as bad as your daily life before the internship.
- but mentally? this is challenging.Â
- youâre starting to miss grass, of all things. grass.Â
- that green weed that grows from the ground- the dirt? yeah. youâre starting to miss that.
- you realise youâve taken a lot of things for granted whilst you were in this metal hunk.Â
- that includes the sun.
- recalling this all just as youâre about to eat dinner made you suddenly miss the moon too.
- as you open the door, it revealed the entire crew already seated, and you were the last person to join dinner.
- your seat is empty, in the middle of anya and curly.
- your eyes linger on the group, laughing together on the dining table.Â
- as you were observing the whole crew from afar, daisuke manages to spot you, and then calls you over.Â
- anya sends you a smile as she looks in your direction as well. curly follows after, sending you a smile, swansea nods at you.Â
- your chest felt warm that night.
- .. maybe you really should treasure these moments more as well.
- there is one extra addition to your bi-daily tasks.
- laundry with daisuke.Â
- or laundai⌠can you guess who made that pun?
- every three to four days, you meet up with him in front of the laundry room, basket of laundry in your arms, and his own laundry in his.Â
- itâs not that heâs incapable of doing it - but he insists that you do it together on the day of the detergent accident. ever since then, youâve been accompanying him.
- you try to spot if he adds too much or too little detergent, taught him which buttons to press on what occasions, and you also teach him how to pick up his laundry quickly.
- sometimes you do machine maintenance.. removing the tray at the bottom and washing the insides of the machine.
- while the laundry runs, you often just sit there together. seeing the laundry tumble, soap and water mixing together.Â
- one time, he asked to go on a surfing trip with you. he made a comparison between the two of you and the clothes in the machine.Â
- you pointed out that the clothes are, quite literally, drowning in water.Â
- he immediately counters you - by saying that he meant the bubbles looked fun - and continues to try and convince you, saying that heâll teach you how to surf
- .. that conversation ended with you saying maybe.Â
- he cheers, and you were only able to sigh (fondly).
- he talks a lot, and you try to incorporate enough words in between your listening.Â
- you talk about all sorts of things. how your day was, how you missed the sun (this topic was brought up by you), the amazement you held for the crew for working here for so long.
- daisuke also talks about the little things as well. how he learnt how to fix the pipes today, how he saved the last time you gave him sunshine - the candy - and ate two today, and how he managed to draw swansea properly today.
- the last one was a slip up, and you can watch his expression grow hesitant when you asked if he draws
- although shy, he shows you his notes- and by extension- his doodles.
- one time you saw him drawing the entire crew, live, whilst you were doing laundry. and somehow, he managed to get the courage to ask you to model for him. (mainly just staying still as you look down at your hands, to replicate the look you had when you were doing your journal)
- you roll your eyes at his request -not to belittle it, but to laugh at the cheesiness of it all - and whilst doing so, a small smile was painted on your lips.
you could feel your lips quirking up at the shy tone of his voice, your eyes looking at him with a fond crease subconciously.
"you could draw me, sure."
"wait, do that again."
daisuke watches you eagerly, a certain shine of disbelief in his eyes as you tilt your head at him, face now back to your usual expression.
"do what?"
he stares at you for a beat. then by the next, his face has already turned away from you, his eyes tightly shut and his hands clenched in front of him in faux defeat.
"noooo.. i can't believe i didn't get a picture of that- man!"
his mumble doesn't get unheard.
"get a picture of what?"
and as soon as you asked that question, his head is facing back in your direction, smiling and giving you a thumbs up.
"nothing!"
you hum in amusement.
"alright."
another smile slips by your lips. and this time, he exclaims, slamming his clipboard (for his drawings) down.
"you just smiled again!"
"i did?"
he continues to pester you to smile once more, and you kept on insisting that you had no idea what he was talking about.
- you had fun playing dumb in front of him, and him getting all frustrated. he looks like an angry puppy, which turned into .. a begging puppy?
- you watch as he pulls his puppy eyes on you, to no avail.
- but you somehow still remember the look on his face. the way his lips were downturned into a small pout and his eyes were wide open, peering at you. it's.. cute. to a certain extent.
- you eventually went back to drawing, and he offered you a little sticky note with a small doodle of him encouraging you on it.
- you still keep the note to this day. he's incredibly endearing sometimes.
- on a few occasion he doesnât talk at all, but thatâs pretty rare.
- the last time he remained silent for the entire session was when you brought your journal along for the wait.
- you had already recorded the past monthâs results, and the day you set for data analysis lined up with laundry day.Â
- so you brought the book with you, and you kept your eyes on the book the entire time.Â
- you did the laundry with one hand, essentially. you only looked up from your book to respond to daisuke, or to check on his laundry.Â
- the silence only comes to your attention at the end of your laundry session.Â
- the machine often plays a tune once itâs done with itâs job - when it doesnât, youâd slap the lid, and then it plays the song.
- and usually, itâs accompanied by daisukeâs own hum of the tune.
- at first, you didnât even realise that he didnât follow along with the melody. but after a moment, you felt something was off.
- your eyes flicker towards his direction, and you see him napping.Â
- heâs snoozing away, hugging his own laundry basket.Â
- and he looks.. peaceful.
- this wouldnât be the first time you saw him asleep. the first time was when you brought him to his room after game night. the second time was when you spotted him on the sofa, napping the evening away on the same day swansea was sick - and this.. would be the third.
- your fingers subconsciously reach out to brush his hair back. you stopped once you realised what you were going to do - your hand inches away from his face.
- dropping your hand back onto your lap, you sigh again. itâs an action you find yourself doing more often.
- you try to focus on your research again, flicking to the next page - your eyes following the lines youâve written before.
- so you both sit there, his soft breaths filling in the air every now and then, and the flicks of pages accompanying them right after.
- he wakes up sooner than you expected, and you briefly suffer the wrath of the sleepy daisuke.
- half-asleep gibberish about you not waiting for him, and leaving him in the laundry room alone. (while you were right there)
- it takes a few minutes before he falls back asleep, this time, on your shoulder.
- you really hoped he really wouldâve truly woken up, even if it did mean sitting through more of his sleep induced rants.Â
- .. now youâll have to stay in this room, in the same position - your shoulders possibly freezing up at this rate - and .. perhaps also face swanseaâs wrath later for keeping his intern for too long.
- oh well.Â
- youâll face it later.Â
- for now, youâll just continue reviewing your data⌠with a snoozing mechanic intern on your shoulder.
- the other day, curly went by your office.Â
- itâs odd enough for him to approach you first before you call him for evaluation.
- but it wasnât psych eval day; and you watch as he enters the medical bay warily, avoiding your gaze after a brief moment of your eyes meeting.
- you could already feel like it would be a long session. or at least, a heavy one.Â
- so you place down your clipboard, and instead focus entirely on him.
- he struggles to get a word out other than âhi, sorry for bothering you, do you mind if i.. talk to you as a patient?â
- so you wait. your eyes remain glued at him, and he takes a few breaths in; then out. and it repeats, over and over again.
- the machine buzzes beneath your feet. itâs louder in the silence.
- so are your breaths. and so is his.
- and finally, the silent tempo is broken by a sigh.
âthe crew is getting laid off,â
the words are spoken in a low mumble, so soft that you wouldnât hear them if you werenât paying attention. but you did hear anyway.
he looks visible distressed; hands messing his own hair up, his fingers fidget more, and eyebags looking heavier than usual. he refuses to look you in the eyes.Â
this would be the first time youâve seen him like this. itâs been sixteen minutes since he came in, and this was the first words that he said, aside from the greeting he gave you.
he's waiting for something. your breath faltering, or perhaps your expression dropping. you can tell by the way he looks at you.Â
he seems guilty.Â
â.. i just talked with jimmy. before the news, about how i felt stuck in this job.â
he takes a heavy drag of air into his lungs.
âi didnât mean to.. i didnât know that this would happen. heâs going to think that i had involvement in this.â
âbut you know you donât.â
your eyes continue to pick up on the little quirks on his body. his faster way of speaking - the way he tumbles over his sentences. and it also explains why he wasnât seen at the lounge for the past couple of days.
these are behaviours that distressed individuals display. you remember this clearly in a textbook you had reviewed previously.
for the first time, in the past nineteen minutes, he looks up at you.Â
âwill you let his beliefs prevail over your own?â
you continue to stare at him, he stares back.
after a brief moment of strength, he seems to give up. his body falls back into himself - his body fully leaned back onto the chair.
â.. i donât know.â
he takes another deep breath in, and you can feel your eyebrows temporarily furrow.
âhis views matter to me. so does everyone elseâs views. i canât discount their thoughts about this.â
âbut you can discount your own?â
your question rings in the room. this time, he doesnât dare to hold your gaze anymore.
âyouâre not at fault here. you want everyone to win in this situation, and thatâs impossible.â
you tap your finger on the table, producing a stable rhythm on the table.
âthere is nothing you can do to change this outcome anymore.â
you close your eyes, and your finger comes to a stop.
â...the best you could do now is to not let others write your narrative for you. help others write their own narrative as well.â
you watch as he sinks deeper into his seat.
â...youâre right.â
and this is as far as you can go.Â
you canât help with anything more as a faux therapist.
youâre not qualified for it either. the best you could do is to make him understand that it isnât his fault, and no, he should not be carrying this burden, nor allowing people to blame him either.
you know he knows this. but does he understand it?
so all you can do is wait; wait until he does.
the blonde man lifts himself up from the seat in front of you, taking a deep breath as he walks around the medical bay.
his eyes are closed, before he attempts to harden himself again.Â
he sends a smile at you, but it doesnât quite reach his eyes.
â..sorry for coming out of the blue. iâm not sure what made me do that.â
he even tries to throw in a chuckle, but it just sounds dry. you send him a sour expression.
another exhale sounds in the room; and this time, the sigh didnât come from him.Â
â.. you can do this, curly. donât doubt yourself either.â
you meet his eyes for the final time.Â
this time; heâs completely defeated. no longer is he standing before you as captain, but as a man, grieving for his friendsâ futures. for the stable future that they mightâve once believed in. that man sends a weak nod in your direction.
â.. iâll try.â
the male leaves with a small thank you, and silence follows after.
your eyes are trained at the false sky as the door shuts in on itself. your calm demeanour slowly unfolds on the wooden desk, your head now buried in your arms.Â
.. now that his burdens are shared with you, what should you do?
- everyone knows by now that your work with anya in the medical bay are split into two.
- anya with physical injuries, and you.. working on psych tests.Â
- you donât want to say that you work with mental injuries just yet. thatâs a horrifying thought. youâre seriously not qualified yet.
- hell, you probably didnât give proper treatment towards curly that other time.. you don't think you're quite ready to become a therapist yet. that's one thing you've learnt in this internship.
- but point is, youâve barely dealt with physical injuries prior to this.
- why are you bringing this up? well..
- anya got sick.
- itâs a fever and flu of some sort. you say itâs the airconditioning in her room, and she denies it - saying that it was fine last night.Â
- then you suggest that it might be her habit of waking up way too early, and this time, she agrees that it couldâve been what played part in making her sick.
- she laughs when you sigh; mostly due to the fact that she knew you were joking.
- youâve been helping her do mundane stuff. examples were.. bringing a basin of water of warm water and a small towel for baths, medicine and food prepared for her, and making sure she gets enough entertainment whilst also making sure she slept enough.
- you would really prefer if you couldâve just cared for her in her roomâŚ
- but she refused - and instead, remains at the medical bay. she wants to be prepared if anyoneâs injured, she says, while she looks like she's dying. (youâre exaggerating)
- but since thatâs the only way she would allow you to help her, you comply.
- she often sleeps hunched over the desk. thatâs why you brought one of the pillows from the lounge to her.Â
- she seemed concerned once she saw the pillow, and you get why - safety reasons, germs, etc. - but you promised that you would wash the entire pillow after it gets in and out of the medical bay.
- it was her time to sigh at your expense. you let out a huff of defeat.
- having a sibling-like relationship with anya meant that she kept you close enough to watch over you, but not close enough to know her.
- only throughout the course of nursing her back to health, do you get to hear more about her life.
- she wanted to pursue nursing due to her motherâs poor health throughout her entire life.Â
- her father was the only source of income, and almost saw his wife as a burden.
- living with her older and younger sisters, she had tried to make sure that the two were alright as well, whilst taking care of her mother. this managed to affect her grades.
- miraculously, her motherâs condition got better after some time, and the burden on her older sisterâs duties got better.
- but this meant arguments got worse. so she left, leaving her younger sister in her older sisterâs care.Â
- she promised to take care of her mother when she got older. but after a year she left home, her mother tragically died due to a heart attack.
- thatâs how she told you that she never had anyone to care for her like this, ever since she moved and got a job in the city.
- before you knew it, you had something in your eye.
â..are you crying?â
you sniffle, looking away from her - a poor attempt of hiding away your .. emotional state.
â.. no.â
your voice gives it away. damnit.
- she only laughs at your attempts, before convincing you that it was alright now. sheâs still alive. and you can only cry more.
- you compose yourself, before handing her another cup of water, and a replacement towel for her forehead.Â
- she thanks you quite a lot during the entirety of it. you try to assure that she was welcome to ask for your help.
- but when swansea comes in with a particularly nasty cut - daisuke trailing behind the old man, panicking - you nearly panic as well.
- you try your best to stay calm, following what youâve learnt from your mentor.
- disinfectant. donât touch the wound with alcohol. clean the surroundings, and then secure the wrap with bandages. make sure that you handle it properly.Â
- before you knew it, you were done.
- itâs not as good as anyaâs, but you think you did well with the bandages.Â
- swansea thanks you, and daisuke gives you two thumbs ups. itâs hard to not reciprocate his energy, so you give him one as well.
- anya, on the other hand, stares at you wide-eyed.Â
you tilt your head at her expression.
â.. did i do something wrong?â
her expression doesnât look like a dangerous expression - just more towards shock, and perhaps, something else.
âi didnât know you improved so much..â
ah. she still remembers, it seems..
at the first day, she asked how much knowledge you had about first aid. and you responded by showing her what youâd do when you had a cut. itâs safe to say that you made.. leaps of improvement.Â
âyeah. iâve been paying close attention to you.â
you watch as she realises what she did.
âi.. taught you that..â
you nod in response.
âyeah. you did.â
she smiles at you, and now, it was her who had tears in her eyes.
- you tried your best to comfort her after that.Â
- you used your newfound knowledge - that she likes tea - and brought her a cup.
- perhaps, due to the exhaustion, she immediately went to sleep an hour after she downed the tea.
- you made sure she was alright, before continuing your writing on the journal.
- you were informed of a communal birthday party (how cheap is the pony express?), and this time, you were celebrating curly's birthday.Â
- everyone's wearing party hats - striped yellow and red, the same colours of your uniform.
- youâre seriously getting sick of seeing it.
- not sure why no one bothered observing and memorising the codes. but you did. and so, you baked the cake beforehand.
- daisuke practically wails at you, asking why you never told him that you knew the pass to the sweetener all this time. basically, putting on a dramatic show.
- you stare back at him, deadpan. the both of you know why you didnât reveal it to him.
- he only grins once he got caught. you sigh.
- so, that didnât go well.
- you surprised curly, but it seems like today was the day he decided to break the news to the members about the disbandment. he was told to wait until you were closer to the destination of the delivery but..
- you suppose this would be the best outcome, if you only had curlyâs emotional state in mind.
- swansea makes a bitter joke, anya looks increasingly worried, and daisukeâs silent, unable to say anything in this situation.
- and jimmyâŚ
â..so i guess you got what you wanted.â
jimmy laughs bitterly, his hands on the table.
âwithout the guilt.â
you watch as curly attempts to explain himself.
âjim.. if i had known..â
a poor explanation it was. you could only watch as the brown-haired man grows more agitated.
âi can go back to my, howâd you put it? âstruggle of a life?ââ
the room is slowly growing more heavy at his words.Â
heâs clearly talking about a previous conversation with curly. but at the same time.. heâs wording it particularly. sure, you werenât there when the conversation happened, but you think you get the gist of what jimmyâs trying to do at the moment - and itâs starting to affect others in the room as well.
âsounds like youâre blaming him for this, jimmy.â
so you try to diffuse whatever heâs planning.
his furrowed eyes snap at you, and he immediately explodes.
âwhat would you fucking know, huh?â
his hands slam at the table, shaking the cutlery on the surface, and it becomes evident that he doesnât care about the things that could break at this very moment. heâs only interested in expressing his own anger.
so, you conclude that you were right. heâs releasing his anger by picking arguments, instead of thinking rationally, disregarding curlyâs emotion, and how it might cause misunderstandings.
you shouldâve expected this much from him.
you decide to retort, tone calm as you speak.
âi know that this should be blamed on management. not the man whose a small cog in the machine right now.â
he only looks angrier after being presented with sound logic.
âoh, please, cut your poetic crap. you come out of this unscathed. you donât have any rights to talk.â
at this point, youâre just more tired than confused.Â
âand you have the right to blame someone that isnât at fault? who gave you the right to do that?â
you slowly unfold your arms, staring at him, before scanning at the others.
they all have different expressions, and you could feel how heavy the atmosphere is. to think that someone like him could cause this much trouble..Â
you look at the perpetrator one last time, as you add in a final comment.
âstop trying to twist reality to your own narrative.â
with that, you could see him seething in his seat.Â
his eyes are sharp on you, and youâd continue this little staring competition if you were any less sane. so for now, you place your party hat down on the table, and remove yourself from the conversation.
âi think everyone needs time to process this. so iâll leave first. goodnight.â
those were your final words, before you stood up from your chair, and left the table.
- after you left, daisuke followed after. then anya, and then swansea.
- everyoneâs hat remains at the table, either upright or simply discarded on the wooden surface.
- safe to say, you all agreed that time was the solution for the short while, and you canât be more proud of them for having some sort of sanity - unlike a certain brunette.Â
- but you could only watch as the door closes on you, with curly and jimmy sitting alone on the table.
- you just hope he doesnât dig a deeper hole for himself. it would make your efforts of redirecting his anger towards you pointless.
- alas, you donât have power over him.
- you can lead someone to water, but you canât make them drink, after all.
i did NOT proofread this. oh man. ill edit it later on.. perhaps...maybe.
i also did not know what possessed me when i was writing this. jimmy feels really ooc but maybe it's because no one has tried to put that man in his place LOL.. only swansea did at the end (by attempting to kill him. valid btw)
hopefully i managed to flesh out each character's relationship with reader enough in this chapter .. i didn't get to write swansea in but tried my best to slip him in the details.. will focus on it next chap!
thank you so much for the support for this as well! i appreciate it tons!
extra notes: i'd like to think that the cake was stored in the fridge.. and eaten the next morning (although with a somber mood)

Wait as Danny heals up by absorbing the ambient ectoplasm leaking from the city and Vlad gives the green light that he has a safe place they could stay. That was until a certain vigilante just keeps on finding himself in their dumpster.Â

Skip nearly seven years later and Jazz is the mother of a rambunctious six (and a half!) year old boy who is the reincarnate of her brother and she just moved to Gotham with her family to go to school. girl next door đ -7
a/n: at this pointâ iâm just doing shit đ
Summer turned to fall rather quickly and things had settled pretty nicely for the ladies. The women had only been sleeping together for about a month but theyâd all fallen into this new dynamic pretty easily. Everyone was learning new things about themselves and each other and it was making for a very interesting friendship.
Like now, Y/n and JJ were sprawled around her living room working quietly. JJ, reading through case consults, and Y/n working through a few papers. Emily had been tagged into a last-minute interrogation at some prison and jj didnât particularly fancy spending her evening alone, so sheâd made her way over to Y/nâs door as soon as she put the car in park. Having spent her day cleaning and sending out project feedback, Y/n welcomed the blonde in with a smile and instructions to get comfortable while she grabbed them snacks until dinner time.
They worked in relative silence for a bit until JJ seemed finally cracked. Her eyes had strayed from the crime scene photos far too many times for her to provide an actual consult. So when she caught sight of Y/n returning to the living room in one of her signature lounge sets, JJ couldnât stop herself from pulling the young professor into her lap. Y/n fell easily with a laugh, straddling JJ with raised eyebrows.
âI thought we were working?â Y/n asked teasingly.
âI canât focus when youâre walking around looking this good.â JJâs mouth instantly started working the column of Y/nâs neck and by now she was starting to pick up on just how to work the younger womanâs body to get the reaction she wanted. JJ was efficient and had Y/n humming softly and stretching her neck to give her more room to work.
âYou know, Iâm starting to realize how insatiable your libido is.â Y/n chuckled as she felt JJâs hands crawl up her shirt to rest in one of her favorite places.
âYou say that like itâs a bad thing.â JJ snickered. âAnd youâre not exactly helping it. Youâve been walking around in practically nothing for the last hour and a half. I think I deserve some praise for holding out as long as I did.â JJ chided with a nip to the younger womanâs neck.
Before Y/n could even reply, her phone started ringing on the coffee table. She pulled away from JJ, much to the older womanâs dismay, and reached for her phone to see who was calling. JJ, hardly one to be deterred turned her attention to the parts of the younger womanâs body that were still in her reach. Y/n eyed her phone curiously but answered.
âTina?â Y/n asked as she held the phone to her ear.
âHi, is now a bad time?â The woman spoke nervously. Y/nâs eyes met JJâs mischievous eyes and she pulled her hands from under her shirt to rest on her hips. With a pout, the older woman lowered her hands fractionally to cup her behind instead.
Y/n rolled her eyes, but didnât move them. âNo, now's fine. Whatâs up?â
âWell, Iâm in DCâ for a show and I wanted to or was hoping to see you. Only if you want, of course. Last time we talked, you said to reach out if I was ever in town. And Iâm here. So Iâm reaching out.â Tina rambled nervously.
âWell of course I wanna see you. No need to work yourself up honey,â Y/n spoke softly into the phone. The term of endearment piques JJâs interest. She knew her neighbor rained pet names when she addressed people, she claimed it was part of her Southern charm. But in the months theyâd known each other sheâd never heard the name Tina before.
âIâm sorry, I just- you know how I get.â Tina sighed over the phone with a self-deprecating chuckle.
âI do. How long are you here for? Iâm teaching during most days but we could definitely do dinner.â Y/n asked flipping her hair out of her face a bit, completely missing the way JJ studied her.
âIâm here until Monday, then weâre heading to Chicago. The show will be Friday through Sunday.â
âOkay, itâs Wednesday nowâ can you squeeze me in tomorrow night? Iâll stay in town after my classes and then we can meet. And if youâre nice, Iâll come see your show.â Y/n teased softly down the line, easily falling into the banter of their past.
JJ was so close enough to the younger woman, that she could practically hear the woman on the other line laugh and agree. She watched as Y/n smiled giddily and confirmed plans for the following day and a familiar yet confusing fire began to burn in her stomach. Familiar, yes. Sheâd been known to have a bit of a jealous streak. Confusing, also yes. Because sheâd only ever really felt that way with Emily. Never for any other partner. And certainly not for any of the women theyâd taken to their bed, casually. As the thought passed her mind, she nodded in realization. Oh, this is definitely new.
When Emily and JJ finally stopped fighting their desires and fell into the whole, neighbors-with-benefits sort of arrangement there was bound to be some confusion considering they had never really brought another woman into their relationship consistently. It had always been a one-night-stand-see-you-never sort of deal. Often occurring after a particularly rough case over drinks in a dimly lit bar on the other side of town. They usually never even brought the women to their house. For safety reasons primarily but also because they knew what kind of message that sent to women and they werenât interested in that sort of thing. Then Y/n moved in and she was just so attractive and so close. Theyâd convinced themselves that after one time theyâd be able to dispel any of those feelings of attraction. Thatâs how it had worked any other time they took someone to bed. But they were sorely mistaken. Not only had they progressed to inviting Y/n into their personal bed, it was as if their experiences with her were bleeding into their personal intimacy. No matter how many times they washed their sheets they stilled smelled of her release. Any time they rolled into bed to sleep or do a little more than sleep, their minds wandered to their unbelievably attractive neighbor down the street. The neighbor they had writhing between them for hours, gripping their silken sheets, pleading for sweet release. It worked wonders for their already active sex life but it always left them feigning for another night with her. So they stopped counting. And everyone seemed happier that way. The streetâs orgasm count was up and who would complain about that?
At this point theyâd slept together maybe, 7 times over the last month. All of which had been initiated by Emily or JJ. It almost always happened like this. After defiling Y/nâs couch for the second time they exchanged numbersâ everyone anticipating the routine forming. Theyâd decide before they left work whoâd actually reach out. If it was early enough, the younger woman would offer whatever she had for dinner to them and after theyâd all eaten together the older women would lead the younger woman to their bedroom. And once the deed was done, Y/n was heading back to her house leaving both women leftovers of their meal. Very casual, very neighborly, very not jealousy-inducing (so far). So when JJ felt that familiar burning in her gut, she knew something else was going on.
âListen, let me know what your schedules looking like tomorrow and iâll find us somewhere for dinner. Are you still off Chinese? Figured. Okay, Iâll see you tomorrow.â Y/n spoke down the phone before ending the call and turning her attention back to the blonde underneath her. âSorry bout that.â
JJ nodded and eyed the younger woman curiously, hands still settle on her ass, âFriend in town?â
Y/n nodded, tossing her phone to the other end of the couch, âYeah, I think I may have mentioned my closest friend in location was in New York when we first met. Well, her shows traveling and weâre gonna get together.â
JJ aimed for casually curious, nothing more than a friend asking about another friend, âThatâs nice, were you close before you moved here?â
âOh yeah, we lived together for a year before she moved up to New York last spring for a role,â Y/n answered easily.
âRoommates? Oh, thatâs nice that you kept in touch.â JJ said feeling the relief inching into her body at the simple answer.
âYeah, roommates. We really leaned into that U-haul lesbian stereotype. Although, i think six months is better than some of couples iâve known.â Y/n counted absentmindedly.
âOh! Sheâs your ex? Like the year and a half one?â JJ asked, feeling the jealousy flair intensely.
âUh huh, gosh I forget how loose lipped I get when I drink.â Y/n smiled, kissing JJâs lips chastely and rising from her lap. âIâm going to start dinner, are yâall eating with me tonight?â
JJ answered affirmatively and watched as the younger woman started working around her kitchen to prepare for dinner. Sheâd need to swallow whatever she was feelingâcause itâs casual.
-
âGod, DC looks good on you.â Tina smiled fondly from across the dinner table. Y/n had picked a restaurant within walking distance to where Tina was staying and she was definitely taking advantage of that fact as she nursed her fourth drink.
âOh stop that! I look exactly the same as I did when I dropped you at the airport last May. If weâre talking who looks whatâ the stage is agreeing with my baby. Donât think Iâve ever seen you this light and free.â
âThat might be the liquor talking.â Tina grinned.
âUh huh, you always did have a low tolerance. My lil baby.â Y/n teased, reaching across the table to pinch at the older womanâs cheek affectionately. âTell me, whoâre you bedding now? Some young ingenue in the chorus line?â
âHa! No no. Iâm not currently involved with anyone. Havenât had much time with the show travelingâ and you know the new york dating scene is not my speed.â
âAwe come on, the girls not seeing how lovable your little shy, nervous thing is? We both know how well that worked on me.â
âYeahâ I fear theyâre not like you.â Tina shrugged, downing the rest of her drink. She waved the waitress down for another and studied her ex closely. âNow you my dear, are definitely getting laid. Tell me about that.â
Y/n blushed under her gaze and rolled her eyes, âOh you know, nothing serious. My married neighbors have just been screwinâ my brains out for the last month.â
âOh ho hoâ now thatâs one way to do it. Glad one of us is getting laid.â Tina cheers, clinking their glasses together. âWhat does ânothing seriousâ mean though?â
âItâs casual. Theyâve got pretty high pressure jobs and you know how healing an orgasm can be. My dating experience here has been pretty rough and you know what they sayâ kill two birds with one stone and such.â
âwell good for you, babe. Glad to see youâre making DC home.â
It wasnât long after that the women stumbled out of the restaurant giggling sweetly. âOh, youâre drunker than Cooter Brown. Come on Iâll walk back to your hotel, make sure you can actually go on this weekend.â
âOh no, then who will walk you back? I donât want you out here alone, how can I protect you?â Tina slurred, leaning into Y/nâs arm.
âSweetness, you couldnât protect a fly right now. Iâll be fine.â
âNoâ just stay the night. Iâve got two beds and youâve had almost as much as me.â
âAlright, alright. Sleepover it is. Start movinâ thoughâ my feet are killing me.â
-
âWhat is your deal? Youâve been glued to that window or your phone all evening.â Emily asked curiously looking over JJâs shoulder for a sign of what she was watching.
âNothingâŚâ JJ shrugged tearing her gaze from her neighborâs empty driveway.
âYeah right, nothing my ass. Try that again.â Emily scoffed, lifting JJâs feet onto her lap.
âIt really is nothing, i was just wondering if Y/n was back for the night.â
âSheâs not home yet? Thatâs weird, most nights sheâs in bed by 9 at the latest. Didnât she say she was having dinner with her friend tonight?â Emily mused curiously watching JJâs features closely. JJ hummed noncommittally turning distractedly as a pair of headlights bathed the dark street. Emily eyebrows lowered together in confusion, âJen, come on. What do you knowâ should we be concerned about this friend of hers?â
At the genuine concern in Emilyâs voice JJ sighed and slumped against the couch sheepishly. âNo, no. Iâm being crazy and I have no clue why. Her ex is in town and I hadnât anticipated her being gone all night.â
âOh.â Emily replied (teetering between nonchalance and intrigued). âHer ex as in the one she dated for a year and a half? Thatâs nice of her to visit.â
âYeah, super nice.â
âYou know if i didnât know any betterâ Iâd say this attitude of yours is because youâre jealousâŚâ Emily prodded, poking at the sole of JJ foot.
âWhat? No. I was just thinkingâ we never really talked about the logistics of our arrangement. And safety wise I think it might be a good idea to figure out.â
Emily peeked through the curtain herself, âRight, right. You think sheâs sleeping with her?â Emily asked suddenly struggling to maintain her nonchalance.
âWell they sounded pretty chummy when she called. And sheâs not home yet. And itâs not like weâre exclusive or anything. Sheâs a free agent.â
âThat she is. Well Iâm sure sheâs having a good time.â Emily threw over her shoulder flippantly, eyes still trained on the street. âBut youâre right, maybe we should think safety logistics. And such.â

ok so while my ds is getting sand poured into it at alarming rates I'm thinking about how jrpgs in specific have a really weird desync with How Important Death Is. like some address it better than others but it very frequently happens where if you take a step back youll go "am I wild or is everybody just like, Really down with murder in this game". and consequences for said murder, especially in a characterization sense but even just actual physical consequences, don't really happen? unless it's a vehicle for conflict but like. when it is a vehicle for conflict it feels weird because why are These Guys actually taking the fact we killed somebody in broad daylight seriously and coming after us for it while all the other npcs and even the main party took it like it was another saturday evening
see I Think where the issue lies is in the fact that everything is in its own little world when you're in a battle? like. when you fight an enemy and you get leather out of it it's seen as something the enemy Drops and not. their hide. when you defeat a character in a battle it does just feel like you Defeated them. unless there's dialogue afterwards that says otherwise you don't even mentally assume you killed em you just wounded them enough to make them flee or dissolve or whatever. and it's Weird to just. have that assumption there because for a lot of games it really isn't clear if you're killing them or defeating them !!
that last point is extra important when you have the specific brand of Skittish Hero / Noble Hero Who Doesn't Kill People / Rational Hero In Way Over Their Head or whatever where you really don't think they Would kill a guy just to get them out of the way. in that case it's REALLY weird because it's hardly brought up. even if it Is brought up that that guy Sure Did Die the mc doesn't tend to actually have a reaction ??? and I don't know why this is ???? like Any written reaction would be more interesting than nothing even if the guy doesn't have a full on crisis about taking another life having them go "oh shit, The Consequences" would be nice. really anything except (oh cool we can advance the plot now).
I will also mention that Some deaths do matter plot wise but very frequently what makes them matter is how much of it is linked to an in game battle I think. if your mc just finishes a fight and comes back to the overworld and the guy's Disappeared or Dissolved or whatever it means they don't matter. if the guy's still around after the fight it means it's more significant, especially if they're still alive but wounded or Really Shaken Up. because this clears up the indistinguishable line between if a battle is lethal or not and if a character decides to deal a finishing blow now it's Way more telling of their character. even though this is basically the same thing that happened in the (killed In A Battle) scenario. just with more dialogue. I will also mention that the person who deals the finishing blow is Rarely Ever that good hearted protagonist and often they'll even go :0 at somebody else committing a murder despite them instigating and helping murder quite a few people. just. In Battle. so it's less bad. I guess.
this is leaving out the fact that in party deaths are often a Major Major Blow because like. ok that's fair. that's A Guy You Knew that's understandable. anyway I don't really know where I'm going with this I just think it's interesting how in these types of games death can swap from not mattering at all to mattering a Lot and if u don't think about it too hard u don't even question it. I'll probably be putting some examples in the tags idk
#i will note that in this specific instance most of my party Is actually super down with murder like vocally#so its less weird but it Is weird that the mc does. Not Seem The Type.#i mean not to say he should have tried to spare everybody i think its kinda neat that he doesnt but#if the fact that he doesnt was brought up at all thatd be interesting. have him acknowledge he killed a dude#but no hes just kind of standing there like (ok what next) no leaning one way or another#these would all be interesting reactions if they were actually Brought Up in dialogue but no its just. oversight#anyway this is about sand but ive also felt this about live a live and even bits of twewy#like specifically in lal the fact that the edo chapter Exists and killing people is just Battling Them made me look at Every Other Chapter#thru a lens of (okay am. am i killing these dudes.) and the answer is I DUNNO#like the guy exploded into a cloud of mist theres no way hes Not dead but its STRANGE#this felt most noticeable in the imperial china and present day chapters because they had mcs who decidedly did not feel down with murder#specifically present day because masaru is fighting this guy for the crime of killing a guys. and woa. he killed a guys. with his Hands#i think theres only a handful of deaths in lal that actually mean anything and you can tell which they are because they dont explode#like in You Know The Part with The Character I Cant Say that guys i think the only time defeating an enemy Leaves A Corpse#ok actually thats a lie the Other Guy I Cant Say in The Chapter Before That also died like that and that was equally important#s also worth mentioning that said first guy can ? also die without leaving a corpse? just turn to ash??#depending on where u go with him. which is weird right. thats weird right.#maybe that just means (hey youre not supposed to feel bad about him dying this tiiiime)#anyway its 5 am ill post this in the morning#veespeaks

answering a couple questions i got on this post since i realized ppl genuinely wanna know:
tl;dr:
israel lets very, very little aid get into gaza. even the UN can't get in as much as they want to. funding individual families, gazan led initiatives, and mutual aid collectives operating out of gaza ensures gazans can provide for themselves and pay for the extremely expensive aid that is available.
with all the civil infrastructure destroyed by israel, the situation on the ground has devolved into unrestricted capitalism, driving up the price of aid (that should be free!). this makes it more urgent for people to have funding for daily survival.
the post linked above has examples of how donating to individual families can help a lot. if you want to help more than one family at a time, there are many gazan-led initiatives focusing on rebuilding their infrastructure and distributing aid fairly that are worth donating to instead of large charities that already get the majority of donations.
as i mentioned in the last post: @/careforgaza on twitter is a nonprofit started by gazans, it's been endorsed by multiple palestinian journalists.
the sameer project is a collective organized by diaspora palestinians offering emergency shelter to gazans.
ele elna elak is a project aiming to bring water, food, shelter, etc. to gazans and has been promoted by bisan owda.
and the municipality of gaza itself is fundraising to rebuild water infrastructure.
all of these organizations are active inside gaza right now and are being run by gazans. if anyone knows of other gazan-led mutual aid projects, nonprofits or charities feel free to link them in the notes! hope this helped!
long answers under the cut!
if you wanna donate to a charity that's absolutely fine, but the thing is most charities (and even the UN!) are unable to make it into gaza in the first place, leaving aid rotting at the egyptian side of the border or subject to israeli settler attacks
not to mention, charities and nonprofits also maintain a paternalistic colonial relationship with the indigenous people they are trying to help, determining what aid they need for them instead of returning power to them and letting them make their own choices
i'm not here to say that one option is better than the other, just that they achieve different things and are equally legitimate. there's an attitude among people who question the legitimacy of these gofundme campaigns that somehow the people promoting them are telling them not to donate to charities. nobody is stopping you from donating to charities. we are just asking that you do not dehumanize the very real gazans in your inbox just because their method of asking for aid is more direct and risky.
unfortunately that's exactly what has happened. because israel destroyed all of gaza's more formalized infrastructure, it seems that organized crime and rampant inflation has taken its place. aid is supposed to be free, but in order to save for evacuation or the cost of living, people have started selling them at an inflated price. and aid that is truly free attracts intense, large crowds that are dangerous to navigate.
this was posted on abc a few days ago
it's pure, unrestrained capitalism. i've had multiple palestinians describe this situation to me confidence. that's why everything's so expensive now. why people have to rent out tiny plots of land for their tents to sit on, why my friend @siraj2024 still has to buy tarps to cover the broken windows of the overpriced bombed out apartment he rented, and why a bag of flour can cost a thousand bucks in the north.
even before israel closed and then bombed the rafah crossing, the egyptian hala travel agency was only allowing people to cross the border if they paid a hefty $5000 USD per adult / $2500 USD per child bribe. it denies doing this, but the hundreds of stories from palestinians say otherwise.
with regard to the economy, here in america we saw something similar happen in the wake of hurricane helene and milton. the podcaster margaret killjoy describes how she saw dual economies rise after asheville was fully cut off from the rest of the country - some people offered each other supplies for free in a sort of mutual aid honor system, and some people required payment when they lent supplies because they themselves needed to buy stuff for their families. these dual economies exist in gaza too. and this means they all still need money to survive.

Part 4
Soapâs eyebrows lifted with a curious glint in his eye as he looked from you to Adira, a playful grin edging onto his face. He leaned in, never one to miss a chance at a bit of friendly prodding.
âSo⌠youâre married?â he asked, his tone as light as his smirk.
You laughed, the sound warm and genuine. âHaha! No, Iâm not.â You gave Adiraâs tiny hand a gentle squeeze, glancing down at her with a smile that softened every edge on your face.Â
Soap tilted his head, pretending to be shocked. âA bonnie lass like yerself? Unmarried?â he teased, hand on his chest as though it were a crime.
âGuess Iâm a rare breed,â you replied with a grin, chuckling as you shifted Adiraâs hand in yours.
Soapâs face lit up at your response, as if heâd just been given the most interesting bit of news heâd heard all week. He shot Ghost a quick look, but Ghost was still watching Adira, his gaze softened with something unreadable.
Meanwhile, Gaz wasn't fascinated by Soap's ability to make anyone at ease, the man was a cassanova. Roach watched Adira with curiosity, as though piecing together a puzzle he hadnât realized existed until now. Price stood off to the side, arms crossed, silently observing the whole scene.
âIf you arenât married, howâd you get this little one?â Soap pushed, grinning as he wiggled a playful finger in Adiraâs direction.
Adiraâs gaze snapped up from Ghost to the man with the funny hair, her little brow furrowing as she studied Soap with a mix of curiosity and caution. She leaned into your leg, clearly wary, but her attention stayed on the finger waving in front of her.
You chuckled, brushing a hand over Adiraâs head to reassure her. âLong story,â you replied, smiling. âLetâs just say she was an unexpected blessing.â
Soap laughed softly, glancing at Ghost with a gleam in his eye. âAh, aye, lifeâs full of surprises, eh?âÂ
Ghost, who had been studying Adira in silence, clenched his jaw, shifting uncomfortably as Soapâs words hit a little too close to home.
âI used to be really wild back in the day,â you admitted with a sheepish grin, a hint of nostalgia coloring your tone as you thought back to those not-so-distant years.
Soap wasnât quite done yet, though. âDoes the father know?â he threw a quick glance at Ghost, who had just risen from his crouched position. A new tension ran through Ghostâs frame, his stance rigid, as if the question had struck something heâd rather not confront.
You hesitated, a shadow crossing your expression before you shook your head. âNo, he doesnât⌠He, uh, probably has no idea.â
Ghostâs jaw tightened, his gaze flickering from you to Adira, who was absorbed in her drink, unaware of the intensity surrounding her. His shoulders stiffened, and for a split second, he looked as though he wanted to speakâbut whatever words he had caught in his throat, locked behind his silence.
"I see, well. I'm sorry if I took up your time, maâam, you've been a nice chat," Soap said, his voice softening with a touch of politeness, his grin still present but more reserved now.
You nodded, giving Adiraâs hand a gentle tug as you continued on your way, the soft crunch of snow beneath your boots the only sound accompanying your steps. The blue sky stretched above, peaceful, serene. As you walked, Adira turned her head, glancing back at Ghost one final time. She refused to let go of her cup, her small fingers gripping it tightly, but she lifted her other hand in a small, hesitant wave. "Bye-bye," she whispered, her voice soft but sweet.
Ghostâs gaze lingered, but he didnât move. His expression was unreadable, a mixture of things churning behind those eyes.Â
Price let out a heavy sigh, crossing his arms and facing Ghost. âSo... whatâs the plan?â he asked, his tone both blunt and expectant, clearly waiting for some kind of direction. The rest of the team stood in silence, watching the exchange unfold.
Ghost didnât answer immediately. His gaze remained on you and Adira, watching you both disappear further down the street, the distance growing with each step. The soft crunch of snow under your boots was the only sound in the quiet winter air. He didnât even notice Price's voice until the man spoke again, closer now, with a slight edge to his tone.
"Ghost, talk to me. Whatâs the plan here?â
Finally, Ghost shifted, his shoulders tense, his jaw clenched as he turned to face Price. There was a flicker of something in his eyesâsomething caught between anger, confusion, and a deep, gnawing regret.
"I don't know," he muttered, the words barely escaping his lips. "I wasn't expecting this. Hell, I didn't even know she existed." His voice was low, strained, but there was a quiet honesty to it, as if he was trying to process something that didnât make sense.
Soap stepped closer, his expression serious for once. "What now, Ghost? We can help. But you need to tell us what's going on."
Ghost finally looked away, his attention drawn to the ground, his fingers twitching like he was trying to find something to hold onto. "I don't even know where to start," he admitted. "All I know is... I saw her. And it hit me like a fucking truck."
Roach, always one to stay in the background, spoke up. âMaybe itâs time to talk to her, yeah? Figure out where to go from here?â
Priceâs eyes narrowed, his stern gaze shifting to Ghost, assessing him. âAnd what exactly do you want from us? Youâre in this, whether you like it or not.â
Ghost let out a frustrated breath. âI donât know,â he repeated, voice hoarse. âBut I canât just let her slip away.â
A silence stretched between them, heavy and thick, as the weight of the situation settled in. Then, slowly, Ghost nodded. âIâll figure it out. Just⌠not now. Not here.â His eyes flicked toward the street where you had disappeared, and something in his gaze softened, just for a moment, before the mask fell back into place.
Price gave a single nod. "Alright. But we stick together on this. Youâre not doing it alone, Ghost."
The team stood together for a moment longer, the wind howling through the alley, before they slowly began to move, their steps trailing off into the winter evening. The silence that hung between them was thick with uncertainty. No one knew what came next, but they knew one thing for sure: whatever happened, they were in this together.
A month passed, the team giving Ghost the space he needed to process the whirlwind that had hit him. They all knew this was something he had to handle on his own terms, but that didn't mean the questions didn't linger. What did it mean for the future? What did he want? The answers were still unclear, even to Ghost himself.
But Soap, ever the persistent one, wasnât content to let things sit in limbo. He knew Ghost, knew how his mind worked, and that sometimes the best way to breakthrough was to take small steps. And if that meant subtly nudging you into the picture, then so be it. Heâd always been good at thisâat slipping in the background, making things happen without anyone noticing.
So, Soap started to "accidentally" run nto you. At the park, when you were out with Adira, he'd make sure to be in the same place at the same time, offering a casual greeting. It always started simple, harmless, with a nod or a small comment about the weather. Then, of course, there was that coffee shop where you'd gone to get hot chocolate for Adira.
The first time he "bumped" into you there, it was nothing more than a quick exchange. A question about the drink, a comment on the cold weather, just the usual small talk. But Johnny's natural charm and ease made you relax, and made the conversation flow without much effort. Over time, those small moments grew. You'd smile when you'd see him, and he'd greet you with the same friendly energy, always leaving you feeling at ease. No pressure, just casual.
And slowly, ever so slowly, Johnny began to warm you up to the idea of him. It wasn't much at firstâa smile here, a shared laugh thereâbut he knew what he was doing. He wasn't pushing, just letting the connection build at its own pace. The more you saw him, the more comfortable you felt. The more you talked, the more you found yourself enjoying the interactions, even if they were brief.
One evening, Johnny sat beside you on the park bench, casually leaning back as Adira bounced around in the snow, her laughter filling the crisp air. The sound was contagious, and for a moment, you let yourself relax, watching her with a soft smile.
"So, me and a couple friends are meeting up at Leslie's this weekend," Johnny said, his tone light but with a hint of something more. "Would you be interested?"
You snorted, expecting the usual joke or teasing, but when you glanced over at him, his expression was far more serious than you anticipated. For a moment, you considered dismissing it. After all, Leslie's? A pub? That was a far cry from the cozy routine youâd built for yourself with Adira.Â
âSeriously?â you asked, raising an eyebrow. "I don't think I fit the scene."
Johnny shrugged nonchalantly, the corner of his mouth lifting in that playful grin of his. âPlease. It'll just be like old times.â
Your mind immediately wandered, trying to understand what he meant by that. What was it about old times that Johnny thought might appeal to you? You didnât exactly have a wild past to cling to. Sure, youâd had your moments, but those felt long behind you now.Â
Still, something about the invitation lingered. A night out... maybe it wouldnât be so bad. You hadnât done anything for you in a while. And maybe, just maybe, it would be nice to let someone else take care of the night for once. No worrying about Adira, no responsibilities for a few hours. Just some fun, whatever that meant now.
You hesitated, looking down at Adira as she made another snow angel, oblivious to the conversation happening nearby. Sheâd be fine, right? And you could leave if things felt uncomfortable.Â
âAlright,â you finally said, meeting Johnnyâs gaze with a reluctant but genuine smile. "I'll join you. But only if itâs not as crazy as youâre making it sound."Â
Johnnyâs grin widened, and you could tell he was already mentally planning the evening, no doubt with some plan to ease you in without overwhelming you. He stood up, dusting off the snow on his pants as he glanced back at you.
âDeal. Iâll make sure itâs a night to remember.â
You just hoped he wasnât overselling it.
The weekend seemed to arrive so fast, and here you were, standing outside your apartment, nervously adjusting your blue blouse and jeans. It wasnât exactly the type of outfit you thought would fit a night out, but it was the best you could do. Most of your wardrobe these days consisted of comfortable clothes, ones that could be easily changed or wiped clean in case Adira had another of her toddler mishaps. Sexy or flirty clothes were a distant memory, tucked away in a drawer somewhere, gathering dust.
Adira stood in the doorway, clutching her little stuffed bear to her chest, eyes wide and brimming with unshed tears. The sight hit you harder than you expected. You knelt down in front of her, your heart sinking at the sight of her teary eyes. âIâll be back in a couple hours, I promise,â you said, your voice gentle but firm, reaching out to her with a reassuring smile.
Adira sniffled, her tiny hand coming up to rub her eyes, but she didnât break her stare. You held out your pinky, the gesture as familiar as breathing. Slowly, she reached out, her small finger wrapping around yours with the same trust she always had. The connection was brief, but it felt like a promise, one that you hoped would calm her.
"I won't be out long," you said softly to the friend youâd left with her. "And you, be good for Auntie too." The last part was directed at Adira, though the words felt bittersweet on your tongue.
Adira nodded, but her face still held that sadness, that uncertainty of what the night would bring without you.Â
Standing up, you ruffled her hair and offered a small, hopeful smile. âIâll be back before you know it. Just a little fun for Mama, okay?â
Her small nod didnât do much to ease the tightness in your chest, but you turned and gave her one last look before stepping outside. The cool evening air wrapped around you, a contrast to the warmth of the apartment behind you, but you pushed the feeling away. Tonight was for you, however strange that sounded.Â
Locking the door behind you, you felt a flutter of nerves in your stomach. This wasnât just any night out. It was a night with Johnny, with his friends, with the possibility of reconnecting to parts of yourself youâd set aside for so long.
Arriving outside the establishment, the familiar hum of chatter and music filled the night air, but what caught your attention first was Johnny standing outside, leaning against the brick wall, checking his watch. The moment his eyes met yours, they lit up, his expression shifting from casual to something almost... eager.Â
âWell, well, look at you,â he said with that trademark wink of his, his gaze raking over you with a genuine appreciation that made you feel suddenly self-conscious. âYou clean up well.â
You rolled your eyes but couldnât suppress the small smile tugging at your lips. It was hard to resist the easy charm of Johnny.
âLetâs just hope I survive this night,â you muttered, though the words were more for yourself than him. You werenât sure what to expect tonight, but you couldnât shake the feeling that things might not go as smoothly as Johnny seemed to think.
Johnny chuckled, the sound warm and reassuring. âIâm sure you will. Now, letâs get going before I change my mind.â
With that, you fell into step beside him, the weight of your hand at your side suddenly feeling strange in the cool night air. He led you toward the door, and as you entered the dimly lit space of the bar, your eyes scanned the room.Â
It was bustling, a mix of regulars and newcomers, all seeking solace or company for the night. It smelled of beer, whiskey, and the faintest hint of fried food, a familiar and welcoming kind of atmosphere. But as soon as you stepped inside, your nerves shot back up again. You tried not to let the nerves show, but they were there, itching under your skin.
What you didnât notice, as you made your way to the bar, was the group inside. Ghost, Price, Gaz, Roachâquietly observing, waiting for their chance to either speak to you or simply let you slip through their fingers once more. Ghostâs eyes tracked you the moment you stepped inside, and there was a hesitation in his gaze, something raw and almost pained that flickered in and out.Â
For a moment, Ghost didnât move, didnât speak. He simply watched you, aware that the moment heâd been dreadingâhe had finally stumbled into. Your gaze met his across the room, the flicker of recognition passing between you both. But that was it. You didnât remember. You didnât know him. You didnât know what he was to you.
Approaching the bar, you saw that Johnny was already leaning in, chatting with the bartender, exchanging friendly banter. You barely heard the words, only caught up in the feeling that something was different. Something you couldnât quite place. You glanced back at the table where those men sat. They werenât talking, but their eyes were all trained on you, as if waiting for something to happen.
Your heart raced without explanation. Ghostâs eyesâthose eyesâstayed locked on you. He didnât know how to approach, how to change what had already seemingly been set in stone. What was he supposed to say? What was the plan now that you were here, so close? God, why the fuck did johnny do this.
Johnny leaned toward you again, a soft smile curling his lips. âYou good, love?â he asked, his voice pulling you back to the present.
âYeah,â you muttered, your voice barely above a whisper. You forced a smile, trying to ignore the uneasy tension brewing in your chest. âJust... getting used to being out.â
Johnny winked again, oblivious to the chaos of emotions swirling within you. âItâs all good. Letâs have some fun tonight, yeah?â
Ghostâs fist clenched involuntarily under the table. He wasnât sure how much longer he could keep this distance, this silent acknowledgment of his role, or how long he could ignore what it meant to see you here now.Â
âYouâll fit right in,â Johnny said, though there was a hint of something deeper behind his words. âJust a bunch of mates enjoying a drink, nothing crazy.â Johnny leads you over to the table, you expected to be met with⌠well you didn't quite know what. Â
Price leaned back in his seat, cigar in hand, a soft smile on his weathered face as he regarded you with a raised brow. âDidnât think youâd actually show up.â
"Neither did I," you muttered under your breath, forcing a smile and doing your best to ignore the gnawing feeling that lingered when you looked at him. You hadnât quite expected this part of the evening.
âIâm just here for a drink, nothing more,â you said, looking over at Johnny was getting comfortable in his chair.
âWell, pull up a seat, love,â Price said, motioning to the empty spot next to him. âWeâre all friends here.â
You hesitated but made your way over, perching yourself on the seat next to him. The sound of the glass being slid toward you, the clink of ice against glass, broke through the chatter around you. Your nerves buzzed as you focused on the drink in front of you, trying to ignore the sudden realization of just how different this was from the quiet, routine life you had at home with Adira.
âEnjoy yourself,â Price said with an air of casual amusement, leaning back in his chair. âThis is all new for you, isnât it?â
You raised an eyebrow, not wanting to admit just how out of place you felt in the moment. Instead, you took a sip of your drink, the burn of whiskey warming you from the inside out.
You laugh lightly, a bit awkwardly, trying to shake off the nerves that gnawed at you. "Yeah, this all a bit... newish. I haven't been out like this in years honestly," you admit, taking a deep breath and glancing around the bar. The warmth of the space was a welcome contrast to the chill outside, but the sight of the men made you feel more like a fish out of water than ever.
Johnny claps you on the back with an easy grin, clearly trying to make you feel more comfortable. âThese are my mates. Price, Kyle, Gary, and Simon," he introduces with a flourish, motioning to each man in turn.Â
You give them all a polite smile, not quite sure what to make of them just yet. There was something about the way they carried themselves, all standing a little apart from the crowd, that made it clear they were more than just regulars at the pub. But you didnât have time to focus too much on that right now. You were trying to just survive the night.
Price, who looked a bit older than the rest, nods at you, his gaze thoughtful, almost cautious. âNice to meet you,â he says in a tone that is polite but distant, as though heâs waiting for something, some sign.
Kyle, as Johnny had called himâgives you a friendly nod, a playful glint in his eyes, but there's a strange sharpness to his look that you canât quite place. âPleasure," he says, offering you a tight smile.
Gary simply gives you a quick but sincere nod. His eyes linger on you just long enough for you to catch a flicker of interest before he looks away.
And then thereâs Simon. His presence, as always, is quieter, more intense. Heâs sitting in the middle, arms crossed, his gaze fixed directly on you. You can feel the weight of it, though. Itâs impossible not to. There was something you couldn't place with him though you couldnât see too well under the dim light.
You try to shake off the unease creeping up your spine. âNice to meet you all," you reply, your voice warmer than you feel.Â
Johnny, oblivious to the awkwardness in the air, slaps the bar and gives a nod. âAlright, drinks all around, yeah? Letâs get this party started!â he declares, pulling the group into the rhythm of the night.
As the revelry began your stomach churns slightly, a sense of unease still lingering despite the distraction. You knew something was off, something you couldnât quite put into words. It wasnât just the menâit was the way Simonâs gaze lingered on you, the way he looked at you as if he were waiting for something. It unsettled you, but you couldnât figure out why.
Johnny, seemingly oblivious to your tension, slides a drink toward you. âFirst roundâs on me," he grins, the clink of glass against the table snapping you back to the present. "Hereâs to a good night.â.
You took a deep breath, swallowing down the nerves that still clung to you. This was supposed to be a night out, after all. A chance to shake off the past, to let loose just a little. You couldnât let the weight of everything pull you under before you even tried. What would be the point if you didnât at least try and enjoy yourself?
Shaking the tension from your shoulders, you took a sip of your drink, the burn of alcohol easing the knot in your stomach just slightly. The guys were chatting among themselves, Johnnyâs laughter cutting through the low hum of the bar as he joked with Kyle. Price was listening intently, nodding along while Gary seemed content to let the others talk, his eyes occasionally flicking to you, though his gaze didnât linger long.
And then there was Simon.
His presence loomed even when he wasnât speaking, his broad frame leaning against the bar just slightly, face half hidden by the shadows. You caught his eyes for a split second, the intensity of his stare making your pulse hitch. You quickly looked away, focusing on your drink, your nerves creeping back up despite the effort to push them aside.
You could feel his gaze on you, though, like a weight pressing against your back. You tried not to let it show, tried not to acknowledge how his proximity seemed to pull at something inside you, but it was impossible to ignore. There was a pull, something in the air, but you couldnât quite grasp it.
Sighing inwardly, you turned your attention back to the others. Just enjoy yourself, you remind yourself again. Donât think about him. Donât think about any of it.
Johnny clinked his glass against yours, a grin on his face. âHereâs to not letting the night pass us by,â he said with a wink, and you couldnât help but smile back, lifting your glass.
âCheers,â you said, the warmth of the alcohol giving you just the nudge you needed to ease into the evening. For now, youâd ignore the tight feeling in your chest. Youâd enjoy yourself.Â
But the eyes that lingered on you would remain, whether you were ready for them or not.
You pushed your chair back with more force than necessary, the scrape of it against the floor loud in the otherwise quiet bar. The conversation still echoed in your ears, but your focus had been on the man, Simon, for the past half hour. His silence had become suffocating, every glance he cast in your direction feeling like it held some hidden meaning. You couldn't quite place it, but something was off about him. His eyes, cold and intense, had followed you too much, made you second guess every word youâd said.
"Im... gonna go powder my nose," you muttered, more to fill the silence than anything else. You didnât wait for a response, the words barely out of your mouth before you were already making your way across the room, past the low hum of idle chatter and the clink of glasses.
While you were in the bathroom, the entire team turned their attention towards Ghost, each of them sizing him up, starting with Soap.
"What is wrong with you?" Soap asked, his voice a mix of disbelief and amusement.
"What?" Simon blinked, genuinely confused.
"Mate, you've been gawking at her all night," Gaz added, raising an eyebrow, his voice teasing but laced with concern.
"Shit. Are you serious?" Simon muttered, running a hand through his hair, but his gaze didn't stray far from where you had just disappeared.
Roach, leaning back casually with his drink in hand, nodded thoughtfully. "Yeah, it's like youâve been stuck in a staring contest with her since she walked in."
Price, who had been watching quietly, shook his head with a resigned sigh. He snuffed out his cigar in the nearby ashtray, eyes narrowing as he met Simon's gaze. "If you scared her off, I doubt youâll get another chance, lad."
Simonâs jaw clenched. He hadnât realized how obvious it had been, but now that the team was calling him out on it, he felt the heat rise in his chest. He hadnât meant to make you uncomfortable, but the pull to look at you, to remember what had sparked your connection all those years ago had been almost magnetic.
âAlright, alright,â Soap teased, leaning in, a smirk tugging at his lips. âJust don't burn a hole in her head.â
âShut up,â Simon muttered, his mind racing, trying to figure out how to fix this without making things worse.
Price shared a look with the rest of the team, a silent understanding passing between them. While Soap might have been the one to set this whole thing in motion, it didn't mean the others didn't have contingencies in place.Â
Soap got up first, stretching a bit. âGonna make sure no one's tried to get in my car,â he said with a casual tone.
âIâll come with you,â Gaz chimed in, already pushing himself up from his seat and following Soap toward the door.
A minute later, Roach also stood, excusing himself without a word, and then Price followed suit, his movements deliberate. âIâm gonna make sure theyâre not up to anything,â he said with a knowing glance.
With everyone out of the immediate area, the bar suddenly felt quieter, and the tension in the air seemed to thicken. It took Ghost only a second for it all to clickâhe had been set up. Without thinking, he bolted from his seat, rushing outside just in time to catch the taillights of Soap's car disappearing down the street.
He cursed under his breath, but before he could make another move, his phone buzzed in his pocket. Pulling it out, he glanced at the screen. There, in simple words from Price:Â
âGood luck.â
Ghost stood still for a moment, phone in hand, as the weight of the situation hit him. His heart thudded in his chest. This was it. There was no turning back now.
By the time you returned to the table, you felt a bit more at ease. The night out wasnât all that bad⌠it was just that Johnny had some weird taste in friends. Well, mostly the tall one. You couldnât help but notice how everyone seemed to have left, a pit forming in your stomach at the thought of being ditched.
You let out a quiet sigh, about to gather your things and head out when your phone lit up in your purse. Pulling it out, you saw a text from Johnny.Â
"Emergency, looks like one of the beers wasn't that good, poor Kyle threw up."
You paused, reading the message again, a small smile tugging at your lips. Aww⌠nevermind. At least they hadnât forgotten about you after all.Â
"Hope he's okay." You replied quickly, grabbing the straps of your bag when suddenly a hand landed on top of yours.
You looked up, meeting the intense gaze of Simon. Seriously? You couldnât help but think. They took everyone but this guy?
You forced a smile, trying to pull your hand away, but Simonâs grip was firm, not unkind. âLook, I had a decent time, but I have to goââ
âJust a minute,â he interrupted, his voice low, steady, almost pleading. There was something about the way he said it that made you pause, something different than the usual small talk.
"Fine." The word slipped out before you could process it, and you cursed yourself inwardly. Really? You just agreed to stay with the guy who hadnât stopped staring since you met him. You sat back down, and he mirrored you, settling across the table.Â
Silence stretched between you, his intense gaze unwavering. He didnât so much as blink, and you couldnât help but feel more unsettled by the second.
What the hell is his deal?
âLook, if you're just going to be a creep, I don't think I want to meeâ"
âDo you remember Armed Forces Day?â His voice cut through your words, quiet but resolute.
Okay, this took all day, I wanted to give you all something long to read incase I disappear for finals (which I might)

by tradition, the first day of the camp was spent pranking the group next to us. our prank was ziptying the zippers on their sleeping bags together. we figured one of them would sleep with a knife, because we all slept with knives, because we were dangerous maniacs and half the danger of a dangerous maniac is that they tend to think that they are Actually Normal. so. obviously that didn't pan out, and instead they got stuck in their sleeping bags for like half an hour and because their scoutmaster slept in their car and couldn't hear them yelling, they actually only got out when one of them went full caged animal and chewed through the plastic. which meant they had time to make it to the axe throwing station, but they did miss breakfast.
the scale of our victory was impossible to understate. it was an epic prank. unrivaled. the best in years. we knew they were going to retaliate, and we both feared and craved it. maybe i'm still a maniac, but that feels like a common thing, right? do well adjusted people that are not maniacs crave Judgement?
(serious answers only please, from people who would never spoon a knife.)
anyway, the next day we got back to our camp, and the neighors had skipped dinner to just come back and fill all our tents with pinecones. which was like, a decent prank, i guess, but it probably took them an hour to fill all the tents up, and it took us like 15 minutes to tip the tents out, and as a return volley to the ziptie prank it was incredibly underwhelming. we felt a little cheated.
so our scouting group held a council, and we agreed, unanimously, that our prank was 100% better and theirs sucked and that there would be no escalating tensions because we were the clear victors. they'd had their chance to retaliate, and they failed, and so the war was over. that was it.
we agreed on this. we swore. but madness is a relative thing, and in our group of maniacs, we still had J. i have many, many J stories. too many. i biked up to school with him from 4th grade to 8th, and i saw him get hit by cars thrice. he'd just swerve into the road sometimes. one time on a rainy day in 4th grade, a car splashed me, and before i could even consider my response J yelled I GOT THIS and then he blitzed off after the car. i didn't see him the rest of the day. i was so anxious i barely slept that night. i saw him the next morning and he told me that he'd chased the car until it got to a gated community and then he'd climbed over the fence and looked in peoples garages until he found the one with the car, and then he'd ripped the hood ornament off and broke their window. then he gave me a hood ornament to a different brand of car from the one that splashed me and i didnt tell him because i didnt want him missing more school. i want you to mentally adjust your mental model of the things a 9 year old is capable of doing to include chasing a car for five miles, hopping a fence, breaking into a garage, and vandalizing a randos car.
and that's just the tip of my J stories iceberg.
the point of all this is just to say that J was so crazy that he made us knife spooners look like accountanting enthusiasts.
so we agreed the war was done, and we shook on it, and then J, in the name of friendship, in the name of honor, in the name of avenging our pinecone filled tents, snuck over to their camp that evening and fornicated with a watermelon that they'd been saving in their cooler.
i want to emphasize, again, that this was not the consensus of the group. that is not a prank. like i know it seems like we dont know what pranks are because of the whole ziptie thing, but even we knew that fucking someones food is not a prank, it is a crime, and a sin, the kind of weapon that had only been ethically used once in history by Horus in his battle against Set and none of us dumb assholes had owl heads.
so.
the next day went pretty well. we threw some more axes again, which is a valuable and important skill for children to learn i guess, and we learned how to tie knots, which is a skill that turned out to be far sexier than i ever expected, and i learned how to light fires with a magnifying glass, which was great. i'm looking back at this, and i am actually just now beginning to realize that the clear and obvious point of scouting is turning child sociopaths into apex predators.
and then the day ended, and we went back to our camps, except for our leaders, who had a sort of Scout Leader Meeting they were going to have for a few hours at least. it was built into the camp, that day was supposed to be our day to chill as a group, and make peach cobbler, and just be buddies.
except, as it turned out, our neighboring group's alternative to making peach cobbler was eating their watermelon. so at some point they opened their watermelon, and woo boy. oh man. you think catholics hated seedless watermelons? you should see how much mormons hate seeded ones.
so we were chilling by the fire, and then we heard screaming from the camp over, but we didn't pay much mind to that because there are many reasonable explanations for a group of 10ish children to scream simulanteoulsy, such as wasps, which are abundant in arizona, and then the screaming got closer, which did not bother us because there were many reasons for a group 10ish children to scream and run towards us, for example, wasps, which are abundant in arizona, and then we noticed they had large sticks on them, which we figured were perhaps being used to drive away the wasps, which are abundant in arizona, and then they arrived and they started beating the shit out of us, abundantly, in arizona.
so we ran into the woods.
now, at this point, we had no idea what was up. we knew that the camp next to us was out for blood, which was crazy, because we'd actually locked them in fartproof bags for 30 minutes and they'd barely done anything back, and were trying to figure out what could possibly have happened that could drive them to Terrible Violence when we realized that J was cackling like a witch that had learned how to order children off of ebay.
so we politely asked J what the hell he had done, and he politely explained that had "done" their watermelon, and we politely beat him with large sticks because life is nothing but endless cycles of violence.
we were still being chased by the other camp btw. so it was them, chasing us, chasing J, and then they got tired and went back to their camp, and we chased J a little longer because we were mad we'd all been walloped with sticks, and J did not care because he was a supernatural entity whose only weaknesses were Needles and Fire, and then we got tired and went back and J kept running, and we just kind of figured he would come back eventually.
he did not.
we went back to our tents, and we waited, and J did not come back. we stayed up all night, peering into the forest, worrying. our leader came back, and we did our best to hide our battlewounds, and he either genuinely did not notice or simply accepted this as part of Boyhood. then he went to bed, and we waited, and waited, and waited. And Waited. and did not sleep.
eventually, we convened again, and we agreed that if J was not back by after breakfast, we would have to tell the scoutleader about what exactly had transpired. and we really did not want to do that, because it would have meant that everyone would have gotten in a very large amount of trouble.
morning came around, and J still was not back. we went to breakfast, and we ate very, very slowly. we were afraid the other camp was going to continue their war with us, but they actually looked fairly frightened. one of them actually came to us and asked for a truce, and we agreed because we truly felt bad for them. like, yes, they did beat us with sticks, but J fucked their watermelon. we werent complicit in the watermelonfuckening but they didnt know that, and it was definitely the kind of crime that left one outside the bounds of the social contract.
and then when we could eat no more bits, when breakfast was almost done, right when i was getting pushed to go and tell the scoutleader that we needed to find J, he arrived. he was sleep deprived, and noticeably scraped and bloody, and tied to his belt was a blood squirrel tail.
and i asked him, J, where did you get that? and he said, don't worry man, it was already dead, which did not answer by question and gave me several more.
the camp ended that day, and the other groups avoided us like the plague, and it was not until some weeks later that we were able to piece together what happened.
J, in his sojourn through the forest, managed to find (or, possibly, make) a dead squirrel. he then cut off the tail to keep on his belt, because he was a weird little freak like that. he also took the dead squirrel, and he skinned it, then he tied it to a little crucifix made of wood, and he left it in the other scouting group's camp. which is why they were so scared of us.
it was such an unhinged thing to do it actually sobered us up for a while. scouting became a scary thing for us. we'd found something dark and primal there, in the place where no adult could see, and our appreciation of J as a wild ride kind of changed into seeing him as something truly dangerous. we had a sense wherever he went, something terrible would follow, and the only way to escape it was to not be there when it arrived. and so piece by piece, the scout group dissolved. it wasnt until he moved out of that ward that the rest of us started daring to go back to scouts.
and for the final epilogue of the tale:
i have a little brother who was friends with a younger cousin of J's, and the two would go to parties together in highschool. and sometimes J, who was in his early 20's at that point, would show up at the parties, and it was unsettling in such a way that it just became a known risk at parties with the cousin. and at one party, they were playing truth or dare, and J wasn't even in the room, but someone asked him the Truth of how he always knew how to find the cousin, and J said the cousin's mom had mentioned she was worried about him and the parties so he'd put a tracker in his car. and when he saw that the cousin was out of the house on weekends, he'd made a visit by, just to make sure he was safe.
then he left. and every single person at that party went over that poor kid's car. they searched the wheel-wells, checked underneath it, the works, until they found the tracker. then because they were clever, they didnt break it, or throw it away, or anything that would've given away what they'd done. they just gave the tracker to the cousin, who put it in his glovebox. and on schooldays, he'd take it with him, so J could see him in the parking lot. and on weekends, he could leave it in the garage, so he could go to parties with out Hell coming with him. because everyone that met J - every single person - knew that the only way to be safe from him was to be far, far away.
#this is a funny story i promise#but it's also a really fucked up story#about a very fucked up person#scouting#babylon-lore#writing#anecdotes#tw: stalking#tw: blood#tw: bullying#tw: dead animal#tw: violence

DPXDC PROMPT : ALFRED IS IMMORTAL
Alright. Don't get me wrong, I love au's where John Constantine is like "soul tax evader supreme", but hear me out.
Alfred.
Alfred, Alfred Pennyworth. Who just doesn't die. The guy's immortal. The reason for this is that Alfred is awesome, so anytime he dies, whether it be from old age or a bullet or a world-wide catastrophe, he looks Death straight in the eyes and tells them that he will die when the day comes that no one needs him anymore, and not a second before, and then he just kinda pops back to life. Because let's face it, the batfam would fall to pieces without him.
So, Alfred Pennyworth has basically just been cheating death for centuries, by this point.
Needless to say, Death is none too pleased. Finally, Death goes to Phantom, the new king, who is much more reasonable than Pariah Dark was and who agrees to actually help.
Clockwork helps Danny set up a portal and he zaps into existence in the middle of a Wayne movie night. The bats are all prepared to fight this mysterious weirdo, but Danny ignores them and turns to Alfred, who he then begins lecturing about ghostly tax evasion and how defying death isn't a good thing, so he needs to file paperwork through the proper channels to stay as an immortal almost-God.
Alfred is chill, he plays cards with Clockwork once when he dies, so he knew this was coming, but the batfamily thinks that this mysterious entity is going to kill Alfred, so they're all panicking, trying to think of ways to avoid this horrible future. Alfred calmly listens to Danny, then he interjects.
"Sir, are you aware of the fact that there is a revenant on earth? One who is most certainly under threat of more paperwork than I, seeing as he has been using the Lazarus Pits to revive himself for millennia. I, however, have only been alive for a few hundred years, so I should think that he is a bigger priority. "
Danny glances over at Jason, doubtful. "He doesn't look several millennia old, Mr. Pennyworth."
"Certainly not, seeing as Master Jason is not. Besides, his Undeath License was filed. I have a copy of it if you need to see it, your Majesty?" Alfred answers, demure as always.
"If it wouldn't be too much trouble, sir."
Alfred leaves and returns, moments later with a light green glowing piece of paper. he hands it over to Danny, who examines it.
"Seems legitimate. I assume you filed it during one of your many encounters with Death?"
"Indeed. I have it on good authority, however, that the other revenant, a man by the name of Ra's Al Ghul, has not renewed his License in at least the last half millennia, most likely longer."
Danny sighs. "Where can I find him."
"Nanda Parbat. The signature is impossible to miss."
"Alright, Mr. Pennyworth. I will return once he is dealt with, be it by filing his paperwork or returning him to the Infinite Realms."
"Very well. I will be ready." Alfred answers.
Danny opens a portal to the area around Nanda Parbat and then another, which plops him down right in front of the Demon's Head himself, in a strategy meeting with his daughter and several commanders.
They all raise their weapons, but he just basically grabs Ra's by the ear and tugs him through a Lazarus Green portal, lecturing him about tax evasion and paperwork and bureaucracy the whole time. The League is thrown into uproar, and Ra's is set down in a room with all his overdue paperwork from the past few thousand years. He feels a little bit like crying; if he had known immortality meant this much paperwork, he would've just died, honestly.
Meanwhile, in Wayne Manor, everyone is crying, because they think Alfred is going to die, Jason is confused about the whole revenant Undeath Certificate thing, Bruce is trying to make contingency plans, Tim is contacting the Justice League, and Alfred is planning out his defense and going through every ghostly law loophole he can think of because if he leaves these emotionally constipated crime-fighting vigilantes, he knows that the house that Martha so loved will go up in flames within a month.
Eventually, Danny comes to get Alfred for his ghostly court trial/hearing or whatever, and Alfred says goodbye to Bruce and everyone, goes to the Infinite Realms. Clockwork is on his side, and Alfred ends up winning the court case, on the condition that now that the has an Undeath License, he actually renew it every twenty years, like he's supposed to.
A week later, Alfred returns, crashes his own funeral, and explains that no, he will not be dying anytime soon.
Two weeks after Alfred's return, Constantine shows up at the manor basically begging to learn how the hell he managed to avoid death, and not only that, win a damn court case against them.
