jiara is everything. they are my everything. they literally are all we ever wanted. would never complain for more kissing maybe, okay just slightly. like a kiss on the cheek even. but they are perfect. perfection.

ruthie. you don't even have to listen to jj's threats honey. because it's KIARA you should really be scared of. wrong pogue to make an enemy of.

protective jj makes me just.... ugh. he will do ANYTHING crazy and thoughtless and dangerous but if kiara wants to he's gonna be level headed and try to talk her out of it. he's a presh bean

I honestly didn't even feel like their dynamic needs it. I just like to see that kissing content

I actually really love the dynamics this season. They have THREE couples in the main group and they've done amazing not making it feel like that, tbh. Though I did get frustrated because I COULD use a little more PDA sometimes, it also (especially for JJ and Kie) makes perfect sense for their characters. Plus, as friends first (and friends for so long), it's nice watching them get to slowly be more comfortable in showing affection beyond closed doors.

I know Rafe is crazy. really I do. but I really want him to become good. I love how this girl has seemed to help that, too. she's a pogue and he doesn't care - like he does but he loves her anyway and it's helped him realize why Sarah did what she did. being a pogue doesn't really change who you are. He also has shown remorse for hating on pogues, like the whole beach scene. I saw someone say they didn't understand the point but I think the point was to show us Rafe and his gf (forgot her name I'm so sorry girly), and show how mad she became, and for Rafe to realize maybe this whole pogue vs kook thing was STUPID and hurtful. It also seems to have to do with Topper development but I kind hate Topper so I don't care about him lolll

it's the way Sarah and JB put up a seashell to let them know they're busy *wink* and Kiara almost walks in and says it's getting excessive IMPLYING that Sarah and Kie are roommates. which that makes me cackle because now I think JJ and JB are roommates and Kie and Sarah are roommates but JB stays in Sarah's room so much that Kie basically lives in JB and JJs room

cannot get over how solid jiara is. they're just... they're just right. they fit. and now that they've been together for 2 years working crap out, there's no silly early dating drama. it's just JJ being JJ, or Kie being Kie, and they both know each other so well they know there's not a reason to even argue. like JJ didn't even fight Kie on diving because he knew he couldn't fight her. she's too stubborn. just like Kie knows there's no need in getting mad at JJ when he does something wreckless because he does something like all the time. she knows talking to him calmly is the only way to even reach him anyway.

“OW!” You hiss in pain, gripping Francisco’s hand as Will removed your bandages. It was getting easier every time, but still hurt. There are a few bite marks on Ben’s arm still from the first few times, Benny letting her bite down on him instead of clenching her teeth. Babies take up a lot of your calcium, making your teeth more at risk for chips and breakage.

“I know, I know, you’re doing so good princess. Doing amazing.” Will soothes you as he cleans up, following the routine you’ve come to know. Your whole left side was burned up pretty badly from your dress catching on fire, but the worst was your arm where Pope pinned you down directly on a flame. You wondered if he got burned, if his hands bore the scars of his sins. You haven't seen him. Or Rey, Iris or Jonah for that matter, not since last week when it happened. Will said it was to maintain a sterile environment; he, Ben and Frankie all showered and wore fresh, unscented clothes, every single time. Will changed your sheets, and you were kept naked most of the time so as to not have anything irritating the skin. Bandages wrapped around your chest anyway. 

Will informs you that he’s going to keep the bandages off you for a few hours while he gets suited for his new armor, letting the wounds breath and instructing you can’t be moving too much. Baely registering it all, you agree, mindlessly. The days were all blurring together at this point, long hours in bed, Ben Will and Francisco by your side at all times. Will slept on your left side, Ben and Francisco snuggled each other on your right. No sign of Pope. No mention of him, even. No apology… why would a God apologize to a mortal, part of your mind would argue… but hours and hours of laying in bed led you to think. And think. And think. 

Whose is to say you were mortal? Surely, you were not divine mother’s status, nor Pope, but you were the Madonna, a holy woman. They worshiped you, didn’t they? Will had ordered your portrait displayed in the temple as well and many  had your picture in their homes. When you went to children’s blessings at the schools and dormitories, they knelt to you. 

You were divine, were you not? Maybe you were a God as well, Godhood being bestowed on you for creating the savior. Who was Pope to make these choices for you, to burn your reprieve, to destroy the things you love and harm your body in such a way… He claimed no more painting, the painting could harm the savior, but he burned you so severely, William had been mentally preparing you for the possibility of a miscarriage. You hadn’t your child was safe it seemed… but how could Pope take that risk?

“I have to go now, my beloved.” Will stood from where he knelt, applying aloe and silver gel to your wounds.

You look up at him, whimpering from the aftershocks of the pain. You’d been given some higher doses of painkillers to get you through; stress wasn’t good for the baby, but neither were a lot of medication. It was a balance. “Don’t go, please?” 

Will had been your caretaker during all this, nursing you back to health with gentle and capable hands and assuring you that they were safe.

Francisco was your comfort, forehead kisses and reading you books to pass the time and holding the safe parts of you, eyes sad with worry.

Benjamin was your delight, bringing you Iris’s food, making you laugh and smile, beginning you with stories from before you had joined them, before you were even born.

Pope was who you saw burning in your nightmares.

Will kisses your cheek. “I know, but I won’t be long. Benny will be back before Frankie leaves, you won’t be alone. Rey is just outside.” He was so close, you wondered if you could talk to him… but after Pope’s accusation you were sleeping with him and Jonah, you didn’t wanna risk it. You weren’t really sure why Rey was guarding, honestly. The thing you feared most was Pope, and Rey couldn’t prevent him from coming in. You didn’t want him to try. He’d be dead.

You nod. “Okay… I’ll be here. Schedule is a little light today.” You joke, bringing a smile to his face.

“Good girl. Frankie, watch out for our princess and our baby. Anything changes, have Saha get me. I won’t be far.”

Frankie nods as Will gives him a goodbye kiss. Things had been… charged, this week. Sometimes you woke to the sound of muffled grunts, and for a moment you’d think it was the succubus again, but nothing touched you. You assumed they were getting each other off. Benny and Francisco were attached at the hip again, quite literally, and that made you happy.

You hear arguing outside, and all three of your heads snap towards the door. Rey and Pope.

Will is quick with his movements as Francisco squeezes your hand reassuringly, pulling a sheet over you to protect your limited modesty, although everyone in this household has seen you naked at this point. “I won’t let him hurt you, Madonna” He whispers in your ear, aiding you to sit up against the pillows, Will opening the door. 

“Get the hell off him!” Will bellows, and you quickly turn to Francisco. If Rey got hurt because of you, you could never forgive yourself.

“He wouldn’t let me in, he can’t defy my orders!” 

“He was following my orders, he’s my guardman, you don’t get to-”

“I AM YOUR GOD!”

“YOU ARE NOT ABOVE ME!” Voices are raised, and Will leaves the doorway, slamming Pope against the hall wall by his throat. You scream, Francisco pulling you closer, and when you look out the door you catch a glimpse of rey. He looked tired, his beard overgrown and his eyes baring dark circles. His long hair needed a brush.

Will continued. “If I remember correctly, Beatriz knocked you down to my level because you were too chicken shit to be the savior.” His tone was dark, hot breath against Pope’s face. “I’m happy to let you lead Delta, because that’s your department. But mine is the guardsmen and you can keep your fat fuck’n fingers off my men.”

There was quiet for a moment, in distinct whispering that you couldn’t understand. Then, Pope walked into the room. 

You whimper, clinging to your lover as he calls “Will?”

“Let him talk.” Will grumbles, scratching his beard. “He can’t hurt’er. Just let him talk. Told him he better be gone by the time Ben’s back, or we’ll have a problem.” He shot Pope a warning stare, then left for the armory. The door closes behind you, shutting you away from Rey.

Pope turned to Francisco first. “Leave.”

You expected Francisco to obey his husband, his leader, his brother… Instead. He gripped your hand tighter. It was shaking. “No.”

Reyansh paced outside the door of your bedroom where he’d be parked, night and day. Jonah and Iris would have to drag him away, promising Jonah would guard so he could sleep… but Rey didnt really trust Jonah to protect her. Things have changed now, Jonah didn’t have a gun. No one did. But that didn’t change the fact when Jonah had a gun, he never used it. Jonah was a coward, to scared to disrupt the staus quo for fear of fucking up more than he did before.

And that was a lot.

Pope exited the room, and Rey straightened up, glaring hard at him.

Pope glared right back. “Your days are numbered, Saha. Watch your fucking mouth before I show you why your whore girlfriend jumps at loud noises.”

He was going to kill him. He was going to wring Santiago’s stupid fucking neck and make him suffer for everything he did to Iris and you. He would. He just needed a fucking plan.

Watching Santiago walk off made him feel sick.

But watching Jonah walk toward your room gave him a headache.

“Jonah, now isn’t a good time.”

“It’s been a week.” He pushed past Rey, going for the door.

It hadn’t been relocked, and Jonah and Rey stumbled in after fighting for the handle. 

“I’m sorry! I’m sorry, he’s leaving.” Rey tries to push Jonah out, apologizing to her and Francisco, hoping Ben doesn’t see. But you say it’s okay.

Jonah watches you, a thin sheet lightly covering your naked body. He tries to push the memories of it out of his head, remembering what you looked like, sobbing in pain, your skin burnt. 

“Hi.” Your soft voice breaks him out of his thoughts, looking at the way Frankie protectively holds you. Frankie had been completely distrought when he found out what happened, when Jonah road out to where he found Ben and Frankie fucking. It didn’t matter, and it had been far from the first time he’d seen any of them naked. The sex parties and orgies Francisco had been stepping away required guards too. You didn’t know about all that either, but he didn’t think you needed too today. There was more important information.

“Hey… honey I need to be honest with you.” Jonah sighs, scrubbing his face and trying to keep his cool. “I need to be honest about everything, every lie you’d been told about this fuck’n place, your dad-”

Frankie interrupted. “I don’t think that’s a good idea, Jonah. She needs to rest.”

You turn your head to him, brows pinched together in a frown. “What? No, no I wanna know. You’ve lied to me?” 

“No, no Madonna it’s just… there's so much history in this house… You’ve had quite a scare, you just talked to santi-”

He turned back to the girl who has become like his daughter. “You talked to Santi?”

Jonah watches as you swallow deeply. “Yeah he um… He apologized…”

Frankie turned to you. “He did not, he talked circles around the subject until you were too confused to argue.”

“I know what he meant!” You looked back to Jonah. “And it’s fine. Everything’s fine.”

At that, Jonah groaned loudly, tugging at his hair as he began pacing the room. This was bad. You were so fucking brainwashed it was insane. “Honey, he’s fucking insane! He burned you! He raped you!”

“That’s not what happened!”

“He killed your dad!”

“My dad was a traitor to my community-”

“MARCUS LOVED YOU!”

There was silence, a dead silence that was common in this house. The kind of silence that haunts you because you can’t help but hear voices of friends vanished and gone. She needed to know. 

“This place… Honey, it’s evil. There evil bred into every fiber of these walls and there's no escaping it. Violence, rape, murder, it all mark every step you could possibly take. There is nothing here that could ever give you a happy life. It would be better if this place had burned down when the rebellion happened, let us all die… That’s why your dad wanted things to change.”

“Jonah.” Frankie pleaded. “Not now.”

But if not now, when? He looked at you, and you only.

“Your dad worked with Tom, that much is true. Marcus had a big part in planning the assassination but… so did I.” He watched your eyes get wider, your mouth more agape. “Marcus and I were friends, close friends… real close, we uh… we worked together pretty much every day, spent a lot of time talk’n ‘bout our daughters… I remember when he found you, actually…starving little thing, vultures flying above you ready for you to die… he was in love, instantly. He’d do anything to protect you, so when Tom came to him with the plan to overthrow the Garcia’s, he was in. He was the one who came to me about it, knew I wanted a better life for Iris.”

You blink. “But… you were the head of the guard… why would they doubt your loyalty?”

This was the hard part, the humiliating part. The part no one but Marcus and Frankie had known before, not even Iris. He could never tell her this. “I was… a consort, to Beatriz.” That part many knew, anyone higher up in the ranks knew that. What they didn’t know was he didn’t want it. “But I didn’t ask for that. I didn’t want it. I was. I was 19 when it started, Iris wasn’t even born yet and… I was just a kid, ya know? I didn’t know how to say no, I couldn’t say no to the most powerful person I knew, especially with my wife encouraging me… She thought it would mean special blessings on her and the baby in her but… Beatriz tried to have them both killed in childbirth. I’m lucky Iris survived.” He could hear his voice beginning to crack, so he moved on.

“I hated her. I hated her so fucking much for what she did to me…”

“And to me.” Frankie spoke, voice soft and barely audible, but the girl turned to him with tears in her eyes. 

“Francisco?”

He nodded. “Started when I was 19 too. She raised me… then started… that.”

Jonah continued. “She needed to die, honey. I know it’s a lot right now, but that bitch was batshit insane and no, she was no God. Neither are you husbands.”

Your face turns back to him, hardened. “Don’t say that.”

Glancing at Frankie, he knew this wasn’t the time to talk about that. Not yet. Focus.  Deprogramming took time. They had an opening, although certainly he was sickened at what happened to her, it did offer them a chance. 

“Tom planted Delilah with Will. He knew his type, and Delilah played the sweet, submissive girl well. She was… beautiful. She knew what she was doing. But I guess Will wasn’t the only one she was told to seduce.”

You nodded slightly. “Will told me…”

Of course he did. “I don’t know what he told you, but I loved her.”

“She was engaged.”

You couldn’t see the nuance. You couldn’t see that Will was a horrible person, that he didn’t deserve your sweet love, he didn’t deserve Delilah, that Delilah didn’t love Will… but she didn’t love him, either. She’d been sleeping with Tom the whole time. Part of Jonah still thought she loved him… but he was also aware Delilah wasn’t just a plant for Will, but for him. 

“She… convinced me, to join Tom. Whatever you think of my choice doesn’t really matter-”

“But it does!” Your eyes welled with tears, and unfamiliar anger on your face. “It does matter because it changed how I think about you, Jonah! I love you!” You sit up further, but cry out in pain. Your skin is still pulled tight from the scaring. Frankie hushes you gently, laying you down and keeping your skin covered as you breathe through the pain. Jonah walks to the otherside of the bed where you face, but Frankie speaks again.

“I really need you to go. This too much for her, she’s fragile right now-”

“I’m not fucking fragile!” You shout, surprising them both.

Jonah tries to get through to you, his voice pleading with her to understand. “You see the worst in everyone who your husbands deem the enemy, without question, without second thought-”

“I trust them!”

“You should trust yourself!”

Frankie barks at him to not yell at her, but Jonah ignores him, kneeling by your side and cupping your wet face in his hands. “Look inside yourself. This anxiety you have? It’s your intuition, it’s your gut screaming at you to get out, you aren’t safe! Marcus died trying to give you freedom, freedom you threw away!”

“I had no choice!”

“Exactly!” A small window. He took it, trying too hard to not hurt your face as he held it but keeping you focussed on him, not Frankie trying to break you away. “Exactly! How can it be love if you don’t have a choice?  Your father wanted to give you that-”

“Don’t talk about him!”

You were in hysterics now, snot and tears pouring down your face as you sobbed but he needed you to remember, pressing his forehead to yours. “Remember your father! Remember the tea parties and making ice cream in a bag! Remember the story times and playing horsey and pretending to fall asleep just so he’d carry you to bed! You have to remember how much he loved you or you’ll never get out of this alive!”

Jonah was thrown back, the hand fisted in his shirt throwing him into the side table. The vase full of flowers Frankie picked shattered on the ground. He head throbbed, but when he looked down his hand was bleeding. He hadn’t even noticed Frankie getting out of the bed, approaching him until Frankie threw Jonah away from his wife.

“What is wrong with you!” Frankie shouted. “She’s pregnant, she’s got half her body burned, are you trying to make her miscarry?”

“No! She needs to know the truth!”

“I can’t trust you! I can’t trust someone who sleeps with another man’s wife! Where are your boundaries, what kind of code do you have if you do that?”

Jonah groaned, not just in pain but frustration. “It wasn’t like that, it wasn’t about lust, I loved her, it was complicated-”

“Is that what Iris says when she sleeps with my husband?”

Now, yes, Jonah’s head hurts. He was disoriented. But he was sure he heard you right. Pausing, he looks up at you from the floor to where you sat up on the bed. Jonah sat up straighter as well. “What did you just say?”

Your face is angry, furious even. You don’t look like yourself but that’s good. He wants to break you out of the submissive good wife role you’ve been playing. “Yeah, your daughter is cheating on sweet, precious Rey!” You whisper harshly. Rey doesn’t know. Of course he doesn’t, because this isn’t cheating. Iris isn’t a cheater, and she hates Ben. Benjamin Miller is raping his daughter. “I walked in on them. Guess it runs in the family.” Cheating doesn’t. Being sexually abused by this fucked up cult apparently does.

Jonah gets up, determination on his face as he ignores you, ignores Frankie, and ignores Reyansh calling after him, asking what happened. He doesn’t know. If he knew, he wouldn’t just be sitting there. If he knew, he’d try to kill Ben and end up dead. He wasn’t risking Rey’s life like that, not when Iris needed him. Iris didn’t need Jonah, he was fucking useless to her… but he could make this right.

He was going to the armory, and he was going to kill Ben.

When Ben entered your bedchambers, it was clear you had been crying, body occasionally shaking as you took in a hiccuped breath but otherwise dead stared at the wall.  Frankie held your naked body as best he could without harming your wounds even more.

Ben gave a look of understanding, carefully brushing hair out of your face as he crawled into bed with Frankie. When he snuggled up next to him, Frankie could feel his hard on. “Well, that’s good. He didn’t mean to hurt you, he just cares a lot. You know how he gets. God of passion, all that.” 

Frankie could smell the sex on him. He could smell Santi on him. He pretended not to.

Steve is fundamentally a fan-service character. That is why he is given no depth, and that the majority of his situation is portrayed from a comedic relief angle, meme-able moments, and stuff like ''being a babysitter''. Is it enjoyable enough? I mean, sure, Steve fills that fanservice character role and people enjoy him being charming and funny, so the show portrays him that way. But he does not provide anything else other than that in the story. And just because he is given screentime does not make him an important part of the show either. He is a lovable, cool, and charming character that captured fans' hearts, and he receives screen time and fan service moments based on that. But I just do not get why people expect the writers to give Steve an actual storyline or real connection to the supernatural plot when his character was never meant to be given one, and his character is largely portrayed as a comedic relief or a fanservice funny character.

im going to challenge this because i think it's a bad writing practice to partition one character off as the designated Fan Service Character and think that absolves you, the writer, of giving them depth or realism. when we're thinking about characters...idk my personal belief is that they should feel like real people. saying "oh well that's just the comedic relief so we don't have to acknowledge that it's the fourth year in a row of him coming face to face with supernatural horrors in a way that either physically or mentally alters him" is just a cop-out and an excuse for lazy writing imo. and steve isn't some random side character who barely gets screen time either, like he isn't angela or tommy or mr. clarke, he's Heavily featured every season. he had the 2nd most lines in season two. idk i think if i, the viewer, am gonna be spending that much time watching a character, i'd like for them to have some semblance of a relevant plot or connection to the main storyline.

people expect steve to get a storyline or a connection to the supernatural plot because it's straight up bizarre for him to be in the middle of an enormous catastrophic supernatural event that always effects him personally, and yet somehow the show never acknowledges it. in season one a classmate dies in his pool and he discovers monsters exist, then fights one in close proximity. in season two another one of his classmates almost murders him. in season three he's tied up and tortured and drugged. in season four he's eaten alive by monsters. again if the duffers want their characters to feel like real people who exist within this story, at least one of those things should be important to steve's story! they should be acknowledged!

also i would argue that steve wasn't created To Be Fanservice. i won't argue that he's become a fanservice-centric character, but that wasn't like his only purpose in the story throughout the series. i think people have a recency bias when they look at steve's storyline, but he really didn't become such a heavily comedic character until season three. in season one he's a villain, like he serves to antagonize jonathan and represent this normalcy and stability in nancy's life that she rapidly moves away from as she searches for barb. and in season two, steve has a beautiful and like genuinely meaningful storyline. he starts off the season envisioning his future with nancy, he gets his heart broken, he gets roped into investigating supernatural happenings with this random kid who he could easily just ditch or dump on someone else but he stays, gives the kid advice based off his current emotional state, then continues to protect the others from the demodogs and billy and it gives him this obvious fulfillment and increased emotional maturity that allows him to finally let go of the relationship and future he was picturing. it was amazing and steve felt real and people loved it not because like "haha funny babysitter" but because it was very genuinely sweet to watch a disillusioned teenage boy form a bond with this dorky kid that benefitted both of them emotionally. it wasnt until seasons 3 & 4 that steve's potential storylines became sidelined for the sake of throwaway funny moments or like.... unrealistic healing abilities

idk i just think people connect with steve based off what we saw in seasons 1 & 2 and they're interested in his full potential if the writers would just utilize it. but because the duffers can't seem to balance an ensemble cast and because steve is easy to market he has become (game show audience voices) abandoned! by! the! narrative! but it doesn't have to be this way and it shouldn't, if stranger things wants to be recognized as a well written show with good character work

jimmy and michael parallels

so i was watching the reuniting the family mission and the conversation between jimmy and m is fucking insane because they completely parallels one another. 

these ate some quotes 

“im a fat shit that you ruined!” this is said by jimmy however it works in michaels perspective too, you could argue that his family “ruined“ the old Michael. they also both clearly have low self-esteem issues.

 “your just a lame and angry psycho sometimes,” jimmy says to Michael but jimmy could be considered an angry psycho. when gaming jimmy trolls and torments others on the game to such extreme lengths that someone actually kidnaps and tries to kill him over it. and it’s pretty well known that jimmy is lame and I think tracey calls him lame multiple times. im pretty sure that her main insult to him which is far too much of a coincidence.

“I get so mad and I can’t control things.” jimmy talking about himself but this quote alone sums up Mikey’s character perfectly. although jimmy talking about the helplessness he feels in his own life probably due to his unique upbringing and his clear low self-esteem, it is far too much of a coincidence that this quote can also be about Michael and how his anger and his inability to keep in control is what sets the game into motion. he pulls down madrazos house in a blind rage which means the vangelico job and Trevor coming back. and back in Yankton he couldnt control Trevor and brad, which leads to the actual game. this quote is followed by “shit just falls on top of me.” jimmy talking about how he’s struggling to navigate his parent’s rough marriage and finding his place in the world but in therapy, michael complains that it’s all getting on top of him and he’s lost on what to do.

“I wanna say I love you and hug it out but all that wimpy shit is just...... lame” the ellipsis is where jimmy goes on about his gay friends which ill will mention in a minute but anyway. Jim has probanly picked up struggling to open up from his parents, im willing to bet money on Amanda and michael haven’t said I love you and mean it since north Yankton, which is proven to hurt kids. Michael himself also struggles to tell his family how much they mean to him when i play I thought that Amanda thinks that Michael doesnt love them, he does but just cant express it all that well. also michaels family never like hug or anything, with franklin m gives him fistbumps which he doesnt with his family the most that they’re touching one another is the occasional bump into one another. 

“I would say gay but that’s not cool anymore.” jimmy talking about his gay friends rn but if you watch the actual cutscene look at Michaels face he looks angry and a little scared. looks like denial to me. as someone who was part of the LGBTQ community i can see the gay denial ive experienced it myself. and rockstars aren’t complete idiots they knew what we would think about M and T. they hint at it themselves and the fact that jimmy talks to him about being gay?? too much of a coincidence for me. it also speaks volumes about how repressed and in the closet Mikey is, he gets angry/ scared when his family talks about being gay. I wanna shake mike until it clicks that he’s fucking gay. 

“im so upset that we can’t even see each other,” jimmy says this to mike but we know for a fact that Michael is heartbroken when Amanda and the kids move out. paralleling each other again!!

“your just a drunk lame dad.” “you know what, that’s the nicest thing anyone ever said to me.” how often is jimmy insulted in the game, not only in missions but you overhear it all the time. so swap whos speaking to who and it still makes sense. jimmy is prolly so staved from regongition from his father, look how much jimmy copies him and his ideals/ thoughts. to me? seems like he’s trying to mirror him so mike starts treating him like a son (this one kinda got away from me tbh)

then jimmy ruins the mood and asks for a car. amazing. 

I love this game so much because all of it has much-hidden meaning and it’s so fun to analyze. im not saying I like jim, in fact, i hate him cause he is so annoying but,. It shows how much effect michael's behaviour and words affect the rest of the family. im so glad that they went to family therapy. sorry that this is so long but i just had to give my thoughts on this, we analyze amanda and michaels relationship but never anything with the kids. idk really but yeah

Unpopular opinion but

I find yuna boring. I find everything surrounding her. The story,taka,lore more interesting....then her herself.

I feel she could have been done better. And be less....annoying and stiff narratively.

And i pray they don't reduce her to love interest either if they ever decide to make a sequel. Bleh.

I dunno maybe it's just i feel she takes over when jin is the main character. She babies taka. And doesn't really get called out for when she does mess up. And when she was,it was just brushed aside.

I get it. War. Bad. Trauma drama llama. Ugh. But holy shit GET TO THE POINT! some areas it drags on and kinda sidelined characters i feel needed waaaaay more development and "screentime"

Anyways. Jin is baby and i still love him. Just sometimes he suffers "main character/protag" syndrome. But it's not his fault.

Again she could be written so so much more better. Im more sad by a loss of potential than anything.

And i also feel iki island was unnecessary. And just there to fight more enemies instead of actually adding anything to the story. *shrug*

Again you may like it,the dlc,and some things about it. But i just dont.

Other than those few things. And the characters suffering from taking stupid pills at times. The game is absolutely amazing. And i still would play it again and again even with the flaws.

Never tire of this game. It's relaxing,it's one of those games i can zone out to and genuinely immerse myself into.

I'm playing Wolf among us and idk if you know about this game or its main characters but Sea as lonely wolf kind of character who survives on one pack of cigarettes and glass of whiskey a day and needs to control his inner beast who is a detective and Jimmy as overly competent deputy measure/secretary and a babygirl and i need him to wear glasses for this role. He and Sea meet a lot and their relationship is complicated because on one hand they clearly could be friends and they feel comfortable with each other and on other hand they have different morals and Jimmy is careerist and naive although he was betrayed in the past and Sea is so lonely but he is always literally always in trouble because of his work and his reputation (he did bad things in the past and the whole town is kinda scared of him). And they just understand each other so well even if they don't agree with each other's choices. And when shit hits the fan and some kind of mafia complicates their lives and bureaucrats steal and the residents of the city complain only the two of them remain against the whole world. I won't even say anything about noir atmosphere and possible desperate and angsty and smoking hot sex that could happen between them. Do you see the vision Monica?

LIKE!!!!!!! sea as a reformed criminal now working as a detective would be SO GOOD, he would absolutely NAIL the dark brooding type who actually has a heart of gold underneath his gruff exterior!!!! and i gotta be honest, im not sure what a deputy mayor does exactly, so how about jimmy as a lawyer aiming to become a judge because he believes law is the only way to ensure justice and that's why he often argues with sea, because unlike him sea believes the entire system is corrupted and that the law not always helps the innocents. even if they are so different, though, they somehow work together really well and get along better than anyone would expect. when jimmy first moved into town pretty much everyone told him to stay away from sea because of his reputation, but jimmy was never one to judge a book by its cover so he started to approach sea multiple times and despite sea's better judgement he found himself enjoying jimmy's company

and they're not exactly friends but they're also more than colleagues AND THERE WOULD BE SO MUCH TENSION BETWEEN THEM BUT THEY DON'T EVEN REALIZE IT OR MAYBE THEY DON'T WANT TO REALIZE IT BECAUSE THEY BOTH HAVE ISSUES AND DON'T WANT TO RUIN WHAT THEY HAVE until eventually they get involved in a big case where like you said it's basically just the two of them against the world and sea gets injured while protecting jimmy which is what finally makes them admit their feelings because they can't lose each other and AND [IMPLODES]

finished the world we make. but at what cost. spoilers under cut

idk. it really just didnt live up to the standard of the og book. it felt rushed, it felt like it’s characters werent explored as much, although one could argue that padmini didnt get much of a focus in the last book and shone here and manny was a main character last time and was pushed to the side a bit here, but still. i feel like it was trying to do too much in too little time. maybe a slower pace wouldve done it well. i appreciated the exploration of manny’s backstory but well, it didnt make much sense. it didnt make sense how his mom knew he would be a city and didnt make sense why he had to be chicago. am i in the wrong here? mayhaps. but i wasnt a fan of that plot point. rarely do i ever say this but i wished the romance between manny and neek was explored more, and i say i rarely say that because such adventurous books really dont need romance, but yet the whole knight dynamic was set up so intriguingly in the first book and was toned down a lot in this book. thats about all ive got for criticisms. i love istanbul because i love cats. i liked seeing all the other cities too. it was fun! bronca is iconic as per usual. sao paolo is still the little guy he was before. im still wishing for a little more because the great cities series was just an amazing concept to have of all these god-like entities representing their city while members of it, and i feel like theres just so much more left in its story. but yknow. it iz what it iz

detective emukasa au because i think the holmes/watson esque dynamic is very fun for them. “wow, you’re just like sherlock homeless!” “ITS HOLMES!!!” it is not recommended to read this im self indulgent.

the main case of the au is emu’s precious jewel (the brooch she wears in her sekai jewelry box art) mysteriously disappearing. emu seeks out help, and decides to recruit the “star detective” (tsukasa) to help her find it. they both end up working together to find it, and as they uncover the truth, they become the best detective duo.. :,) tsukasa is one of the town’s best detectives. he used to be affiliated with an elite crime agency, but is now mostly working independently under a smaller, friendlier agency (shiraishi’s agency). he’s an eccentric and confident guy, who’s very proud of his craft and skill as a detective. he’s on very good terms with most people, and has lots of connections due to his previous cases. he has a strong passion for solving interesting cases, and had this dream of becoming a detective ever since he was younger. not going to get into details about his character but he’s somewhat similar to sherlock holmes, especially his humor and dramatics, and his denseness when it comes to love. he even has the amazing acting skills like holmes! also he’s good at piano. not relevant, but it’s like holmes being good at violin. (also that one scene of holmes playing violin for watson to fall asleep.. think about that but tsukasa’s playing piano for emu..)

emu would be tsukasa’s loyal, devoted, caring, partner. she also likes to write about their adventures, just like watson, unlike watson in the acd series, emu plays a stronger role with the actual case as she helps tsukasa solve them. emu does not have experience as a detective, but her intelligence, particularly her strong emotional perception, is a very useful skill when conducting investigations by interrogations. she believes in the impossible, which is a good trait when it comes to solving cases that don’t seem logical. she comes from the richest family in town, so you could imagine tsukasa’s surprise when she approaches him one day for help with a case. her “genki” personality throws tsukasa off, but he eventually warms up to her..

just like watson, emu is tsukasa’s greatest admirer. she constantly is amazed by his feats, and compliments them often. she finds it incredible how great tsukasa’s deductive skills are. tsukasa enjoys the praise, just like holmes. she also has strong faith and loyalty, always by his side no matter what happens or what anyone thinks about him. whatever tsukasa lacks, emu makes up for. she is basically the perfect partner for tsukasa. her days have been relatively normal and ordinary until she got dragged into thee cases with tsukasa, and she has been happily enjoying the exciting, unpredictable life since. she feels like she’s been smiling and laughing a lot more often because of him.

holmes needs watson. tsukasa doesn’t take emu for granted, always wanting her by his side for everything he does. he stands up for her whenever someone speaks poorly of emu. (like holmes saying “if you’re going to say something, say it to both of us”) he proudly introduces emu as his amazing partner, and is happy whenever emu makes progress . he makes sure that emu understands just how important she is to him and how valuable her contributions are. without her, he is lost. (when she is too busy to help him, he is sad and mopes like a loser. holmes-core.) emu was one of the first people to truly appreciate him and recognize his potential, when everyone else thought of him as ridiculous.

the banter between the two is silly. they tend to disagree about stupid stuff but whatever. tsukasa corrects emu on silly things (like their usual dynamic, straight man and wise guy type). even if they tend to argue, it’s obvious that they both care deeply for each other and get along very well. they both are crazily energetic and match each other’s energy. they are able to build off of each other’s ideas in discussions to solve things together very efficiently (like holmes/watson).

they get into lots of antics. sometimes it gets risky, but they have strong mutual trust and go along with each others’ plans despite being dangerous. (just like emukasa in the actual prsk series). emu is the one who always has to bring the revolver btw. tsukasa makes her do it, just like holmes. (“Watson, bring the gun.”) sorry i just thought it was funny that emu’s the one taking action. is everything that they do legal? not exactly!!.. but yk holmes and watson do like to break the law willingly too! (“you don’t mind breaking the law?” “not in the least.”) they also have a lot of fun! its not always a serious business while pursue the cases. they do everything together, basically inseparable.

i want to write more, this does not do them justice.. but im sleepy so ill stop here lol

No this opinion was part of the reason I KNEW he wasn’t going to stay dead.

I remember going into the mha discord servers and seeing all the people celebrating or crying and being one of like. Two people in the entire server arguing that he wasn’t actually going to stay dead.

And I didn’t directly say this but… part of it was how love interest coded it was. Like oh my god I could name one million shows that use this exact trope for their characters oh my god.

I will say, this use of the trope was probably the most prolific for me. Like yes, the love interest dying was and will always be very emotional for me simply because of their development and SO MANY OTHER THINGS.

But. No one did it like horikoshi. My man is a romantic at heart. He loves to write characters, character angst, character love, unrequited love, innocent love, family love, he loves to write love. He’s such a romantic. Him revealing his favorite mangas at the moment a while ago that everyone was freaking out were “just like bkdk” only proved that further to me. HE BASICALLY ONLY RECOMMENDED SHOJO/ROMANCE MANGAS.

I joked about this a while ago with my friend, but the ways in which me and horikoshi do world building are so similar. And by that I mean we’re both lazy about it and only use it to further play dolls with our characters. And it’s done in such a way only the internet can truly enjoy together? Like there’s a reason shipping is so so so popular in this fandom, and it’s not just horikoshi’s fault. He gives crumbs to nearly every character in 1-A with another character in the same class. In one way or another. And he does the same thing with the teachers, heroes, and even little side characters like David shield and allmight. That wasn’t done by mistake, everything he did to make these characters interact in the ways that they did were MADE for a fandom to go crazy over shipping them. And isn’t that such a 2014 thing to do right? It was such a new age for the internet, and he fully capitalized on the popularity of fandom and shipping at the time. It’s insane looking back on it.

So he basically just gives crumbs to a world full of heroes and villains, vaguely implies that it’s a problem when heroes take advantage of the system, and lets the fans fill in the rest. Every time I think about how lazy he is with world building I think about that one moment in the provisional license exam where a student says “wow this is the type of stuff you don’t think about it a world full of heroes” LIKE MY MAN GAVE HIMSELF A PAT ON THE BACK FOR DOING SOME PRETTY BASIC WORLD BUILDING ON HIS HEROES IM CRYING

And then proceeds to thereafter ignore most world building until the endeavor training arc AND THEN HE PROCEEDS TO SAY “hey look these guys are called sidekicks, also some heroes don’t have agencies but this is how most heroes are employed” AND THEN NEVER TALKS ABOUT IT AGAIN.

I also noticed that most of the ways he chooses to world build are pretty much made through using the emotions of characters outside of the main cast. Like when he shows the whole world falling apart during the afo battle with allmight, instead of building other places in the world previously, he uses their emotions and their love of heroes to tell you just how big of an impact Allmight and heroes like him have had on the world.

Anyway, this is all to say: he’s amazing at writing characters. He’s amazing at adding that emotional irony, the buildup, the flashbacks, everything. All of it was so clearly building to Katsuki’s death, and I only see that now. Man, the irony of building so many death flags for your main character, only to have been secretly leaving little crumbs of the buildup to a death no one saw coming. I love it looking back.

y'all i know kacchan dying like that must have been traumatizing for the bkdk shippers, but like.... he also died in the gayest way humanly possible.... like i can't even imagine going through that bc on one hand it's like my special boy is dead, but on the other he was so love interest coded, shiggy killed him specifically bc of izuku's intense feelings about him, the fucking yearning for izuku as he died, and then the reveal he carries the little all might card he got with izuku around with him like. i cannot stress enough just how gay his death was. like i just know the shippers had to be a little conflicted

i was gonna be all difficult and respond like "LOL are you sure" but yknow what screw it im bored and i've done that too often already so !! here ya go. everything i love about magolor

this is probably to be expected (especially bc of how often i draw him lmao), but first!! i LOVE his design. his design in particular just really stands out to me compared to the other characters ig; he has unique aspects to him that are so cutesy and charming yet contradicting and mysterious from how he looks alone. you have lil cat ears obviously but he still wears a hood and scarf so you cant see his face at all and glowing eyes??? damn. i also love his cape it's so flowy and cool AND ALSO i feel like the gear patterns are really fitting to him as well and go nicely with who he is. however, at first glance you might think his main purpose is to be a mechanic or engineer, and while that is true, he's also majorly known for being a skilled wizard, and his name is even based off the word magic. i feel like you wouldn't expect that from his design and that makes it all the more interesting... it's like there's underlying aspects that you get a suspicion about from just how he looks, which i feel is extremely fitting to his character. his design conveys that he's from another world so nicely too i feel,, you compare him to kirby and the others and he looks so different and otherworldly, almost. you can immediately tell that he's probably not from the same dimension or planet as everyone else. he has a ton of amazing concept designs but im glad they went with this one tbh it just. LOOKS the most like who magolor is and what he's supposed to represent imo. i love the others a lot too but !! in terms of his design his current one takes the cake for me

i adore how Absolutely layered of a character he is. there are so many bubbling details beneath him that have so much impact i just. God. him coming from another planet that's practically dead with very little to no life left and him not knowing what friendship is or how it's supposed to properly work, him betraying the others and falling deep into "obsession and hatred", him finding an exit, dealing with the massive pressure and apologizing to kirby, but him still getting up to funny mischief now and then !! you literally never know what you're gonna get with him (some of those might be personal interps but let's pretend they're not (whoopsie)). Just how he's developed and where he's now placed in the franchise,, he could be classified as comic relief yet he's still a main character if that makes sense?? i'm dying on the hill that magolor is a main character even though he didn't appear in forgotten land idc

i like to think he's similar to how bandee was but. also not ig lol idek -- like both of them debuted in one game and were expected to just?? not return??? but they did and became extremely significant characters who have made such a massive change. they could have chosen to cast magolor aside or whatever, say fuck it and kill him off, etc. but instead they didn't stop there and wanted to keep going with his character and give him a huge role. yeah you could argue it's bc of his popularity but i still think thats so cool tbh he just seems so unique compared to the rest of the cast in his own way and its. really interesting to see how he fits in the series in general !! him and his game are literally where kirby lore and more effective storytelling began imo and i think thats. So amazing they really tried to expand and develop the series through his character and it shows how important he is and how significant he places in terms of kirby as a whole

on a related note -- his personality is something unlike any other. they described him as "deceiving while telling the truth" and i think that's really important bc it's hard for you to tell when he's actually being genuine. and that's unique to most of the other characters and makes him feel out of place in a way and.. yeah mysterious !!! even when he apologized after he fucked up, his wording gave the impression like he just seemed to shrug it off like it wasn't a big deal despite the fact it obviously changed his life which also relates to the former thing and fhjkgfh Wow!! ofc dream collection could've taken place a bit after he actually apologized to kirby but y'know !!

also never get tired of the fact that man's ego is the size of the entire galaxy through hell and back . "look at me, i'm such a nice guy right?" I love how he actually Recognizes how important he is and acknowledges // acknowledged how he can use certain situations to his advantage and this may result in him coming off as stuck-up and thinking of himself more highly than everyone else but !! he doesn't care . Plus he's completely aware how strong he really is and just how he can use all of his abilities and skills to his advantage. Yet despite this, you may get a touch of underlying sadness, guilt, loneliness from him... all the more reason he's a layered character :)

Insanely powerful he is and yeah you could say it's bc of the master crown or whatever (probably is lol) but Listen he has such a wide variety of magical attacks and i think it's so cool bc i feel like he doesn't depend on them Too much yet he still shows them off?? if that makes sense?? like he still uses them a lot for things in, say, dream collection for obstacles i don't even know where im going with this LMAO but yeah his abilities are just so !!! very cool like you take one look at him and you think he would be weak or wouldn't have any powers yet he could destroy you from like 40 miles away or something and he's one of the most broken characters in ksa, kf2, etc. mans can summon literal black holes, portals and giant swords that only kirby could previously wield like it's nothing now, if that doesn't make him one of the most powerful characters currently then idrk what does (i remember in a star allies article while describing his ultra sword they stated something along the lines of "did he secretly stash up power from the master crown? or did he steal this ability from kirby?" and while it's most likely the former in a realistic sense could you IMAGINE how insanely strong he would be if he could actually steal abilities from kirby, the most powerful character with the most powerful abilities. Just putting that out there)

said this briefly in the design paragraph already but i appreciate how many things about him can go two ways that usually contradict one another. Maybe i'm thinking too much into it but lol the most obvious one is, ofc, how he acted as a friend vs. deceived kirby but other things too like. How he combines steampunk elements and high-tech elements at the same time which are opposites. as i said he's also a magician which is !! also not something you may see with those two together i believe star allies and his name in general adds a TON of fuel to this bc it confirmed how his name literally means "false paradise" and "wonderful place" if you combine translations which also contradict each other i also like to think that "magic" in his name can also refer to the fact that he's also extremely skilled in certain areas such as yknow. Getting to handle others or outsmart them, seeing things from others' perspectives, or even being a very talented speaker altogether (a magician or wizard can also mean someone who extremely skilled at something. just a fun lil thing)

more minor things !!! but i really love how he uses slang + speaks in a dramatic way, and how that relates to his personality as explained above. no other kirby character says "dude", "beast", etc. which i feel can really emphasize how he's not from their world but it's?? very funny to think about fhdjkgh. I know other kirby characters use katakana in japanese but i believe magolor is the main // most popular example in this aspect(?? lmk if this is incorrect though, i just know galactic nova and star dream use it but im not sure about anyone else) i also like how he heavily emphasizes certain words and phrases !! it makes him seem overexaggerated and even more unique than other characters who may act in a more realistic in a way. All of them are unhinged but they're all unhinged in their own way which compliment each other well and i feel magolor adds a lot to this mix :)

speaking of which god i LOVE his voice. i feel it's so fitting despite the fact it's animal crossing language as it's widely called. like they stated in the miiverse post, i love how they made it seem authentic by making him clearly say "kirby", it does kind of make it seem like he has an accent even in english ig. It's so squeaky and cute and adorable like go off lil man!!!

i think i got a lot of everything lmao i'm sure there's a ton more i haven't mentioned or didn't think to mention but just know i love Everything about him he means so much to me like fucking hell i love this character if you couldn't tell. he's just so Good he has so many things about him yet i feel we haven't even scratched the surface of how much there is. i really think this rtdl novel will bring // brought a whole new light to who exactly he is and what he's worth and i'm always looking forward to seeing him around again :) really hope he'll continue to have a lasting impact on the franchise

WHB’s Guide To “Non-Canon” & One-Shot Comic Loki Content

This won’t be in any real order because it doesn’t matter and also there’s DEFINITELY more I haven’t read that I’ll come back to at a later date maybe

Loki (2004) - This is very beautifully painted and explores the idea of (classic) Loki winning and how he copes on the throne of Asgard, but I found it pretty slow and dry. There’s some good emotional complexity in it though.

Loki (2010) - This is just a retelling of existing Norse myth with a Marvel skin over it. I genuinely think if you wanna read Norse mythology then there’s much better versions of it and this doesn’t add much more to make it fit comic Loki’s character. Check it out if you think this suits you best.

Thor & Loki: Double Trouble - This is a banger. It’s one of my favourite artists over 100% pure goofs and gaffs and japes and jonks. This is all Loki and Thor sibling spats and presents us with possibly the MOST amazing take on Loki’s character design by having him be just a little guy. Goblin mode fully activated. Very fun.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl - Okay, some will argue this is canon, others will argue it’s not. For the most part, USG does not follow Marvel 616 canon but imho this makes it way more accessible to new readers. This comic is a fucking DELIGHT. I cannot recommend USG enough. USG’s take on Loki is such a campy, dramatic, mischevous scamp full of sillies and I LOVE them. I could write essays about USG. I’m shaking this comic series in your face. I’m kissing it.

Now, some of this DOES overlap with canon events running at the time. A brief period of the USG comics covers the War of the Realms arc when Loki is Sorcerer Supreme, though I... coulda sworn those weren’t happening at the same time... This is basically the only part that has canon timeline in it and it treats Loki a million times better than the other comics at the time did. Also one of the characters introduced in this series appears in Thor (2020) so it does have multiple ties to the main canon.

If Im not selling it enough, THIS comic series is where the “This is why you get a genderfluid demigod to be your fashion designer” panel came from.

Also this series introduces some AMAZING new characters, all of which appear in the podcast The Unbeatable Radio Show which takes place just after the comics. If you want more help knowing the reading order for this comic series specifically, DM me and I will help you out.

Alligator Loki - This is as it says on the tin. It’s one of the new Marvel webtoons about gator Loki having some adventures. It’s silly and entirely visual and it’s very fun.

Marvel Voices: Pride (2022) - There were TWO Loki comics in this year’s issue. One is tied to the Young Avengers comics (a personal favourite of mine) and the other set in Loki’s current situation. Both of them are very funny and silly and full of Loki being his best self.

Thor (2020) - But didn’t I list this as canon? Yes! However there’s a handful of one-shot comics in this series. Issue #25 has another Marvel skin on a Norse myth, “Thor’s Wedding”,  which in my opinion is much better than Loki (2010) ever did and it’s extremely funny and silly, an absolute hoot.

 Marvel Voices: Iceman - Another of the webtoons. Loki pops up in #3 and is an absolute treat. I recommend reading all of this tbh because it’s fun and very gay.

i'm just gonna go in and start screaming for a few paragraphs maybe possibly. im not one to review things at all but whatever i have like a hundred years worth of things to say. i was gonna go n post abt this as i read but then i was like na h ill just make a bunch of memes and cry later

like first part(s) of the story i was already screaming and crying over that flashback where hes arguing w aaron. highkey i was like bro is this rly the time to tell luke to make this romantic. rly. then later on it was nothing but sadness and heartache and crying and i was like yknow what maybe he was right about this

first meme! i saw peanut and i was like oh m y god. my little boy. my baby. hes back. highkey i miss the kid. he's not present enough in luke stories lmao. the fact that luke styled the lil handle on peanut was. hooo. i was like man i cant believe this is the perfect man maybe? also highkey during his classical music lore session i was like "lmao shouldve made it fur elise" and then i was like Hm. i also highkey love the fact that they changed the music for the music box bits. that was cute. love that they used the main theme on the default card screen too. very nice

every time he mentioned larping schumann or brahms i was like man is this rly the time lmao. altho i am happy it brought him resolution

meme two i dont have that many memes again most of this is just me ranting for a bit. the voice acting was literally peak though. every time he yelled, or even every time he was quiet, you could really get all that hesitation and heartbreak, all at once. it was amazing. it was heartaching. loved it. i cant speak for the other dubs since i use jpn but like. i bet they were. immaculate.

also highkey im still so miffed that they didnt give rosa voice acting. i could rant abt this for hours but to keep it short, like. mhy is always at its strongest when its not making a self-insert, yknow? in some cases, self-insert characters work, but when your choices don't matter too much, in an otome game, which are mostly character driven, trying to make her too basic is just kind of eh ig. she does get a pretty solid character from what we have, though. like, shes got a strong personality. very passionate abt justice to the point of embarrassment. very honest. is generally driven a bit more by her heart than her brain. like seafood. that sort of thing. she's already her own character, so i just wish they gave her a va. its gotten to the point in which ive literally started imagining a va for her. she kind of sounds like shirayuki (jpn) in my mind...

also man fr he really did think that romantic partners were the only way to receive proper emotional support. she has friends, man. she's a strong kid who you left for like, 8 years. have some faith in her, yknow? also god, that line where he was like "As long as he can make you happy." god. that just stung, man. im thinking abt him in other routes and like, 3/4 times he really just gave up, didn't he?

on that note i also thought the towel that he was using to dry her hair was just. on top of her head the entire time, so thinking abt all these dramatic scenes w her just doing that was funny. ik thats not how it worked but like still. also did she rly run to her parent's house in that outfit? in the storm? ik she wasnt thinking but oof dude shes gonna catch the worst cold after all this blows over

that kiss scene though. man. the orchestra music playing. i always love that theme, even if it does feel mis-timed at moments. it just feels so refreshing. rly does make it feel like a "kiss of fervor" (also how he just caresses her arm during the kiss. how gentle. what a sweet guy. he rly just wants to comfort her.) he even used 大好き instead of just 好き like man. ... man.

and then that bit where they called each other their greatest treasure... and then, how he said "I swear, I will do everything I can to live, so that I can be with you." man. it was cheesy but it rly did feel like the rainbow after the storm. it rly is all abt learning to love yourself because of how loved you are. like wow. man. it rly is abt loving someone so much that you want to live for them. live w them. man.

all in all, super cheesy card. it was a short-ish storyline, but i highkey loved it. it was cute. it was precious. i nearly cried. (more or less did when i found out his badge was called "Luke's Vow" like hooo. oh my god) i Enjoy. looking forward to the 2nd anny's cards....

it felt really short but I liked it, great character development for Ricky, Lynne and Gina.

im so sorry ‘cause this is a rant more than anything, but i get so mad whenever nate gets written off as “dull” because like??? a main factor of his personality is the fact that he’s spent his entire life being a doll for other to pose. you expect someone who’s always been controlled to know what they want! kid’s traumatized and pretty consistently taken badly advantage of by the people around him, of course he’s going to be indecisive and unsure of who he’s supposed to be.

yes, exactly!! don't apologise, i love talking about this. it just kills me that nate's expected to be perfect, and everyone around him has an idea of who he is which isn't necessarily grounded in the reality of who he is.

it's also interesting to me, because within nate's issues there are parallels to both blair & serena - serena, too, isn't sure who she is or what she wants, and one could argue that it stems from the way people around serena treat her, which is similar to how people around nate treat him ("oh you're so hot and sexy, i bet you've never had an original thought in your life" - that kind of thing), but unlike serena, who shrugs things off (or tries to, at least), like blair, nate's cornered and held into place by the weight of all these expectations. idk, i just think that's interesting.

anyway, nate as a character - by virtue of what he goes through, by virtue of how he's trying to figure out his place in the world away from where other people want to slot him into, the conflict of defining his ideals and values differently from his parents and grandfather and cousins - all of that gives nate the capacity for so much depth, it's really sad that the show never engaged with that, and that the writers, too, didn't really explore things and just let all this stuff go untapped. like. nate & everything he's going through is THE coming of age drama, but he was never gonna be written that way. and that sucks.

sometimes it feels a lot like the larger fandom thinks that the only character with any kind of nuance, or complexity, or fleshed out personality is blair? which - okay, leight did an amazing job, and all that - but like. serena has SO much going on too, she is such a complex character, and ditto nate. and the show could've gone into so much more depth with those two, but they never did, and i hate that. (of course, dan, vanessa & jenny are also neglected by the larger fandom and demonised by the writers, but that's would evolve into a completely separate conversation, so i'm not really going into it rn.)
