Nostalgia Bait in Mermaid Form

Which show did you like more as a kid? Mako or H2o?

I liked both. H2o gives me always these beachy mermaid vibes with the iconic song no ordinary girl, Mako shows me instead more of the mystical vibe that comes with the mermaid stuff like the pod, the trident, the history between Merman and Mermaids, the water dragon, the different pods around the world and so on. It explores and opens up the world of H2o in some way. Not to forget Rikki’s Cameo in the third season.

Mako Mermaids F/Feb Day 19 For Sure

Day 19 For sure, Ondina/Weilan, 657 words, Rating T

Everything was perfect. Weilan had spent all afternoon getting every single detail as perfect as she possibly could. Rose petals starting in the hallway and leading to their bed, a heart drawn out in petals on top of the sheets. Candles too, so many candles. Little tea lights each once spaced equally apart, bathing the apartment in soft romantic lighting. 

She had a bath all ready to go too, bubbles piled high and more candles dotted around the bathroom. 

The most important thing was on her person and had been all afternoon. A ring. Silver with a tiny diamond tucked away in a little black box in her pocket.

Weilan went to pat her pocket and found it empty. Oh fuck. 

She searched everywhere. Ondina would be home any minute and she had lost the goddamned ring. In a flurry she threw one of the pillows off the bed sending it flying across the room. 

It worked, the black box sat just partially buried under the other cushion. Weilan grabbed it and opened it - the ring was still safe inside.

“Um Weilan? Why is there a pillow on fire?”

Weilan spun round to see Ondina standing there and the pillow she had just thrown beginning to smoulder into flames.

“Oh fuck!” Weilan snapped out her hand and condensed the water from the air into a blob before chucking it down onto the pillow.

“Weilan don’t!”

Ondina sighed as she fell to the ground. Her tail thumped into the rose petals, the motion of her fin sending some floating around. 

“Oops.” Guess some of it splashed on Ondina. 

“What’s all this for?” Ondina asked, looking around the remains of the rose petals. The ones on the floor were disturbed by Ondina falling, the ones on the bed wrecked by Weilan throwing her pillows and not to mention the charred pillow on the floor. 

“I had something planned but I think I’ve ruined it,” Weilan let herself sink down onto the floor at the foot of the bed and avoided Ondina’s eyes. She had tried so hard and it just all went wrong. 

“My answer is yes.”

“Wait what?” Weilan’s head snapped up.

“That’s a ring right? In your hand? You were going to ask me to marry you?”

“You really want to marry me?” Weilan asked, “Even after all this?” She gestured around the mess she’d created. Looking closer she could see some of the candles had spilt wax on their carpet, 

“For sure.”

Weilan wanted to squeal and jump in that moment, instead she opted for her language of love - sarcasm and jokes.

 “You can’t say that at the altar you know, or in front of whatever High Priestess marries Mermaids. Typically it’s ‘I do’ people say.” 

Seven Months Later

“And do you Weilan take Ondina to be your Mer-wife? No matter what the oceans and tides throw at you?” Evie asked, standing between the two. Ondina still didn’t officially exist, so an official land people ceremony with a registrar was out of the question. So Evie was asked to do it. 

Zac and Cam were Weilan’s Bridesmaids, standing to one side. Mimmi and Sirena were Ondina’s bridesmaids, both wearing soft blue dresses matching the boy’s ties. Weilan had gotten Rita to walk her down the aisle for this land ceremony; her grandmother having been there for their official vows under the Full Moon where the Eastern Pod’s version of Mako’s High Priestess had joined them together. Ondina had also stolen Rita to walk her down the aisle much to Rita’s amusement. 

“For sure,” Weilan grinned, unable to resist the call back to the proposal. 

Ondina laughed, their friend’s joining in and the pair leaned in resting their foreheads against each other.

“And do you Ondina take Weilan to be your Mer-wife? No matter what the oceans and tides throw at you?”

“For sure.” 

“I now pronounce you wife and wife, you may now kiss the bride!”

SWIM CHICK, LAND BOY : NRK

synopsis: out for a walk along the pier, niki spots an interesting creature out on the bay

author’s note: truly don’t know that there is an audience for this besides myself. i apologize everyone this is entirely inspired by erik and ondina in mako mermaids lol

with the sun shining bright making the ocean waves glisten, y/n chose to go for a quick swim along the bay. she was always careful when she swam around this area because there were almost always people either on boats or swimming about. luckily, y/n was careful to scope out the area beforehand making for a very peaceful swim.

As she swam around the coral reefs picking out different seashells to add to her collection, an unsuspecting boy happened to be taking a stroll down the pier.

nishimura riki had just finished his shift at the café nearby and so he decided to take a nice walk around and maybe dangle his legs over the cool water. just as he was making his way down to the water, y/n came up out of the water for a quick break.

as she lifted her head above water she quickly took notice of the blond boy in a café uniform sitting on the edge of the pier and looking out at the sea. she immediately sank back underneath the water, looking for a place to hide.

riki remained completely oblivious to the mermaid swimming all over the marina who was doing her very best to hide from him. she eventually opted to hide behind a boat close to the boy so that she could still keep an eye on him.

riki stayed still, occasionally swinging his feet back and forth over the water.

after a few minutes of silence had passed, y/n figured it was safe to get away because of how blissfully unaware the boy was.

diving back underneath the water, y/n quickly began to swim away, but her tail was caught by a net attached to the boat. she tried her very best to push forward and maneuver her tail out of the net but it was no use.

as y/n remained underwater trapped, riki began to notice sounds of splashing coming from a boat nearby. he glanced over to the source of the splashes but saw nothing. worried that he was losing his mind, he carefully stood up and began walking over to the boat. glancing over the water he could see something underneath and as he leaned closer he realized it was a person.

just as riki was about to call out to the mysterious swimmer, y/n’s head popped out above the water clearly panicking.

“are you alright?” riki asked the girl.

quickly turning her head to face him, panic rushed over y/n but she said nothing.

“hey swim chick, are you alright?” riki asked again.

“yes everything’s fine!!!” she quickly said, praying he couldn’t see her tail underneath the water.

“are you sure? I heard loads of splashing.”

“yes! I’m completely fine I just got tangled in some kind of net-“

“oh lemme help you then!”

“NO! I mean- no it’s alright you really don’t have to!” she said, trying to sound casual.

“really it’s no trouble. here let me grab hold of the net.” he reached out to the net attached the boat and began to pull it upwards, out of the water.

y/n’s mind was running a million miles a minute trying to come up with a way out before the boy caught a glimpse of her tail.

as riki yanked on the net, y/n yelped in pain.

“I’m so sorry! are you okay?” he asked, quickly softening his grip on the net.

“yes it’s fine I just-“

“oh holy shit.”

in that moment y/n’s heart fell. he had seen her tail. she squeezed her eyes shut, begging that this was all just a dream.

the silence between the two was extremely loud, and y/n didn’t dare to open her eyes to see his reaction.

“you’ve got a tail, swim chick.” riki suddenly said, pointing and smirking.

slowly opening her eyes to meet his, she let out a large sigh.

“yes.” she whispered. there was no way out of this. “I have a tail, land boy.”

he let out a small chuckle.

“here let me help you with that-“ he offered, reaching back out to the net.

“NO!” she yelled, making him immediately back off. “look. you need to promise me you won’t tell a single soul about this. I know you’re confused and shocked and all over the place, but I really need you to promise me you’ll keep this a secret. please.”

riki just laughed and brushed his hair back.

“land boy? hello!?! please please PLEASE don’t tell anyone!” y/n yelled, panicking.

“you’re quite paranoid you know that?”

riki wore a small smile on his face as he stared out at the girl before him. he looked back under the water and examined her tail. it was a muted pink and orange ombré, her fins flipping around as they remained trapped.

now wearing a sneaky grin, he suddenly ran towards the edge of the pier and dove in with zero hesitation.

“oh god.” y/n whispered, rolling her eyes as she desperately tugged on the net trying to free herself. as she did so, the mysterious land boy suddenly appeared underwater next to her tail, now carefully attempting to pull off the net.

her eyes glanced over at the boy as he remained focused on freeing her tail. as she stared, her eyes slowly took a glimpse at the rest of him.

instead of the café uniform he wore prior, his clothes were replaced by a green and blue scaly tail.

for the second time in the last five minutes, she felt her heart drop. her tail began frantically flipping about, she couldn’t believe her own eyes. alarmed by her movement, riki turned to look at her.

her eyes remained fixated on his tail. noticing this, he winked and shamelessly shrugged his shoulders, going back to work on the net.

“you’ve got a tail, land boy.” y/n slowly said.

“that I do.” he replied. “and now you have one too swim chick. well you always did- but I gave it back- cause it was trapped in the net- yeah.”

y/n smiled at his awkward rambling.

“thank you, land boy.”

“I feel like you can stop calling me land boy now- I mean you’ve literally seen my tail.” he laughed and spun around, showing it off.

“so you’re a merman?” she observed.

“and you’re a mermaid.” he smiled.

the two sat in comfortable silence for a moment, both equally as mesmerized by each other.

“I bet I’m faster than you.” she suddenly challenged, mimicking his spin.

“oh yeah?” he smirked.

“yup.”

“you’re on swim chick.”

the two then shot off as quickly as possible, both giggling as they glanced at each other speeding through the water.

and thus, their first date unknowingly began.

Mako Mermaids F/Feb Day 16

Day 16 Fall(Autumn cause UK) Ondina/Weilan, 247 words, Rated G

Their ‘Hot Girl Summer’ turned into “Autumn Aesthetic” as Weilan introduced Ondina to her favourite part of autumn time - the seasonal drinks. She was a pumpkin spice girl through and through. The changing leaves and cooling temperatures gave plenty of room for cozy jumpers and busting out some cute hats and scarves. Her grandmother knitted non-stop when she wasn’t busy with Pod matters so Weilan had a collection. 

“Another coffee day?” Ondina asked as the pair readied for going outside. Weilan supplied her with a tan puffy jacket and “faall tone” as Weilan had called it, knitted beanie with a fluffy brown pom pom on top. Weilan had a similar jacket in dark green but an orange beanie with fox ears on them.

“Cute little fox,” Ondina commented.

“I know right! Grandma knitted them for me. I’ll get her to do one for you too.” Weilan slipped her fingers through Ondina’s and led the way down to Starbucks.

“Today we’re trying my new favourite - maple. Like the syrup. I had it from Costa and it was good so let’s hope this one is too.”

“That for your Instagram too?”

“It might be, the rest of my ‘Autumn Aesthetic’ posts have been doing really well.”

“Just don’t expect me to join you on winter adventures because it’s feeling pretty cold already,” Ondina nestled as close as she could to Weilan without tipping both of them over onto the ground.

“You Southern Mermaids, too spoiled by the warm seas.”

H2O & MAKO Headcanon #25

Just a follow-up to the post below:

So, after so long, I felt like reiterating this long-ago possibility that any young girl who saw or met any of the merpeople would become a mermaid later in their lives.

So after combing through which little girl would fit the bill (aka if the child actresses kept acting) and found the one who fit the billl.

Remember Patty?

The 13-year-old girl stole the toy dolphin from Mimmi, who tracked her to a dolphin enclosure. And after Ondina (recklessly) used her powers in front of her, she and Mimmi got splashed by a dolphin and were forced to jump into the enclosure to transform but unfortunately, Patty saw them and brought a crowd to see them while they hid. Luckily, Sirena saved them by telling the crowd they were wearing costumes. Sadly for Patty, she was upset to see Mimmi and Ondina dried and denied what she saw. But for consolation, she got to keep the toy dolphin, though her mom had to pay for it.

Now, it's 2023, which means plenty of time had to pass for the young girl to grow into a mature-ish, grown woman who understandably never forgot what happened. So, I humbly headcanon and introduce:

Patricia "Patty" King, a 21-year-old, college-bound woman majoring in History and Folklore & Mythology as well as an assistant scuba diver.

How she turned into a mermaid:

7 years after the events of Mako Mermaids, the Mako Pod left for their decennial migration while Zac, Evie, and the others pursued the option of college or alternative interests. While they were gone, divers started coming around the island once more. Patty's boss agreed to do a night dive session for underwater photographers and she went with them during a full moon. However, Patty swam to the base of the volcano and noticed something embedded in the coral. Upon shining a light on it, it revealed to be a crystal of some sort that began glowing a memorizing, blue hue and teleported her into the moon pool. Patty received visions of ancient islanders traversing the land and worshipping the full moon before taking a group of boys and girls down a cave that began to bubble before falling unconscious. She woke up on the beach the next morning, unsure how she got there. Found by her boss, she was returned home and took a shower to wash off the sand and saltwater and you know what happens from there...

However, somewhere over the seas, Nerissa is alerted to an enchanted artifact she created in case any land people ended up in the moon pool (an inevitable fact she became well aware of after meeting Rikki and her friends). She, Rita, and Veridia, along with the council, agreed to send three mermaids to see what happened. Nerissa's daughter, Mimmi, was chosen but was surprised when two other mermaids volunteered: Naia and Ava, Ondina and Rita's former students and current graduates from Merpeople School.

This is how it goes from here. A college mermaid becomes aware that Mako Island has a lot more secrets that bridge between Humans and Merfolk while Mimmi must return to find out who was changed and reverse it. Not to mention, answer the unasked question of why humans and merfolk weren't allowed to interact, to begin with.

Decennial means "over ten years". If mermaid pods are traveling every decade or so, it could explain: How the metamorphosis of Gracie, Louise, and Julia went undetected in the 50s and as well as Cleo Sertori, Emma Gilbert, Rikki Chadwick, and Charlotte Watsford in the mid-to-late 2000s (essentially saying the pod returned in the 60s, left during the 70s and 80s, stayed during the 90s when Zac Blackley was born, and left before in the 2000s.)
