I want to ramble (read: complain) about some trends I've noticed in L2D communities.

There's a type of question I've never understood why people ask and it's the kind where it seems like they're asking for permission or others approval rather than "is this possible?"

A common one I've seen for L2D is people asking if they can import models that aren't anime-ish. It's such a strange question to me because like... why wouldn't you be able to? It's not like the program compares the PSD imported to some standard and rejects it if the eyes aren't straight from a Shoujo manga.

There's also the weird helplessness some people have in regards to doing anything. They can't look up guides, they need others to provide every guide. I'm not talking about asking for help finding something, I'm talking about the people who post daily asking for someone else to find basic guides for them. There's a ton of tutorials for the basics (XY rigging, eye movement, etc) that pop up with little effort. Genuinely takes more time and effort to ask someone else to find you something than to go to youtube and look up "live2d tutorial."

It's worse when you send them the guide then they ask why it isn't working when they're legit ignoring everything the guide explains.

Some have a more infuriating form of helplessness in that they reject any assistance that isn't quite literally holding their hand and maneuvering it for them. Suggest they read the official manual to get acquainted with L2D? Lmao nah. Suggest a tutorial that isn't exactly what they're trying to do but would give them the tools to do it? Not close enough.

He doesnt care all that much, at least as far as you can tell... Michael... isnt the easiest to read

Then he holds your face in his hands... it's not a new piece of affection, he occasionally traces his fingers along your skin as the two of you snuggle

Hes going to be thinking about the name for a while, but hes not going to let it get in the way of his work and chores

Ugh oh my god rereading some teenTumu Teen AU archive shit and this shit hurts my heart

Was just reading the beginning part where he first gets transferred to the school and it's SO obvious to Startop that he's being abused. Atumu LOVES school and wouldn't miss it for the world, and he just randomly disappears for a few days and then comes back looking a little tired and bruised. Changes in the bathroom stalls instead of in the lockerroom for gym class to hide the bruises (Star can recognize this behaviour because he does the same for his SH scars)

Star confronts him about the time he was missing from school "Were you sick?" And Atumu, clueless, is like "No?" "Then why did you miss school?" Atumu, ever the terrible liar, would then backtrack on his answer (bc he is realising why Star is asking) and be like "oh yeah i was feeling under the weather the past few days. I was contagious, so had to stay out of school." Honestly the worst liar.

Star pulls him into the handicapped bathroom stall to confront him about his bruises. Lifts up his shirt to reveal all the bruises and be like "What's all this then?" And Atumu is a SUPER SHITTY LIAR and tries to explain it away with SPORTS. (He knows nothing about sports). Like "oh yeah i was trying out for some sports teams. I accidentally hit myself with a baseball bat haha silly me i felt so stupid" and it's the most obvious lie in the world, Star is obviously not buying it and is annoyed that Atumu won't admit something is wrong. He smacks Atumu in the arm on one of the bruises and that immediately sends Atumu into panic defense mode and he backs himself into the corner of the bathroom on the ground and shields his body from any further blows. Seeing Atumu like this is so pathetic and honestly SO HEART BREAKING that Star actually starts crying cuz he's seeing this kid being beat and won't admit it.

Atumu's kind of reeling rn bc basically his Only Friend(tm) in school (and in life) just hit him, and he's scared and doesn't know why, and seeing Star crying now is just ????? Tries to offer a tissue, but Star smacks it away and leaves cuz he doesn't want Atumu to see him crying.

And the following few days are weird and tense cuz Atumu's like...trying to mentally justify Star hitting him (Startop was just lashing out in frustration) and the only way Atumu can rationalise it is that it is okay for Startop or his foster dad to hit him, and he probably did something to deserve it, and maybe the people who care about you also hit you. Next time he and Star talk, Star apologises for hitting Atumu and Atumu says "it's okay" and Star says "No it's not."

Stars angry that Atumu is going through this and won't admit it to anyone, and it was so heartbreaking, sad, and pathetic to see him curled up on the bathroom floor shielding himself in fear, and he won't even acknowledge being abused...

Something something. Making Solas a liar in Veilguard actively brings back a problem they fixed working on Inquisition.

On December 20 2019 VGS posted an interview with Trick Weekes about their work on Solas. This whole sentence is a link so its large enough for mobile but also disclaimer this is before they changed their name so deadname warning.

Here's a transcription I found here which is where i took the screenshots above. Since I know not everyone has 40 minutes to listen to an online radio interview.

I however highlighted the main point since most of you are not reading the screenshots anyway but skimming through. Rant under Read-more. Also bc i try to not be too negative on people's dashs but also i wanna ramble some more.

You can tell this happened during the game. Solas lies only once within Inquisition. He says something he can't be vague about and you push him so he lies, badly. He usually tells the truth vaguely. Typically Solas lies no more than Blackwall.

I fully believe that if in Inquisition your inquisitor figured out that Solas was Fen’harel and asked him bluntly to his face he'd confess. He might even be impressed. But why would you ever start to think that. No one assumes that their coworker is actually Poseidon regardless of how much they love the beach and ocean.

He hides in your expectations.

You can't ask him about being an ancient elf or being Fen'harel of myth because those aren't very probable. They're astronomically low to be truth within that universe. And outside, no one finished DA2 and went i wonder if one of our next companions is the Dread Wolf. Sera said, impossible things can't be surprises. He doesn't have to lie so when the truth comes out it's becomes obvious on a second playthrough.

They then actively bring back a problem they fixed in Inquisitions development. That they were open about fixing. That having a character that outright lies to you makes you have no intention of even hearing out the character. It retroactively undercuts Inquisition bc i see people trying to find Solas' lies in it when they aren't going to find any beyond the court intrigue.

It undercuts any lore we do get from Solas bc people dismiss it outright as being a lie from Mr "I abhor blood magic". I feel like shaking people's shoulders like no, dont do it.

They retconned him guys i have proof from 2019.

And its like if you hate Solas is this even satisfying? Like that's not Solas. His motivations are gone (that's a whole other post) and so is his core personality trait. It's like they went here's the Dreadwolf but during the ten years they replaced the smug asshole who was insufferably right with a 20 yo senior chihuahua that doesnt have any teeth.

My favorite villains are those that tell the truth. Because nothing hurts more than the truth. Can you imagine if he told you the truth. If he told you horrible things that you dismissed as lies to only be true. Wouldn't Varric’s death have more weight if he told you Varric was dead only for you - for everyone - to see him in the Lighthouse. If it was a spirit who took his shape to help you or even because it saw something worth reflecting in your memories.

So you dismiss him until it's revealed near the end oh he was telling the truth and you have an oh shit maybe he was right about other things but its too late to try and stop any of the truths he told you which could be from allies/companions betraying to stuff about Ghilan'nain and Elgarnan.

Like the only way to redeem Solas was to listen to him and by going out of your way to address problems he sees and you can find the alternative to tearing down the Veil by a series a little puzzle pieces throughout the game.

Have it be he will only listen to you if you listen to him. That he'll reject your other solution bc why the hell would he trust you if you couldnt extend the same.

Like Solas couldve been a great villian and he should've been great for both the haters and those that liked him. Not only the romance but for those who became his friend. Like i keep coming back to if i hated Solas would i be satisfied with Veilguard.

And the answer is no because that isnt Solas.

Tricking him has no weight bc he's an idiot in Veilguard like not even in the ending bc doesn't notice you switch the dagger around like right in front of him but none of his actions make sense. Ppl have mentioned the regret prison makes no sense for Elgarnan and Ghilan'nain bc they don't have regrets.

Attacking Solas has no weight because he literally needs the shit kicked out of him by a dragon for it to even begin to work. They literally need him to be at deaths door before its realistic that Rook could take him in a fight.

Redeem has no weight bc of the massive retcons to his motivations. They had to retcon the post credits scene bc even if Flemythal went hey i don't want you to do this Dai Solas wouldve went okay but that doesnt solve my other problems with the veil including the corruption of spirits and the fact its in literal shambles so i guess is still coming down.

I'm just disappointed. By the end of Trespasser they had a great villian and they just tossed it to the side and reverted him and people are arguing about a character who's sole defining trait in Veilguard is a problem they solved before Inquisition launched.

Basically we can sum it up with a screenshot.

However, there are MANY reasons you might want an app, and in a bunch of those cases, there are ways to do those things without having to provide your login information to a random person running an app. Here is a round-up of solutions to the most common reasons I've seen people give for wanting an app instead of the plain AO3 website.

My personal recommendation: Don't download in PDF format. This is really mostly a browser error--Firefox on iOS does this to me A LOT. Your best bet is to download the work and read it in an ereader app. A lot of people also will make an ao3 bookmark and write in the notes section which part they were at, but that assumes you aren't falling asleep while reading. (I genuinely don't understand this one but I have seen it multiple times so on the list it goes!!) The search bar at the top of the screen is a keyword search. If you'd rather search within a specific field (like title or tag) then you'll want to click on the word "search" at the top of the screen and select Work Search or Tag Search. To search users, use People Search. To search Bookmarks, use Bookmark Search. (If this is you, please tell me what the heck you mean by "search is bad" and how an app helped with this.)

I need to be able to sort stories by date posted/number of bookmarks/alphabetical/etc.

You can do this using the filters sidebar. Pick a tag you want to filter on (like a fandom, character, or relationship) and then click on the "Filters" button. The sidebar will pop out and you can sort and filter on a boggling array of specifics. AO3 has this feature built in! If you have an account (which you should) there is a "Mark for Later" option on every work.

Microsoft Edge web browser has a built in text to speech function. Supposedly it works on both iOS and Android, but I have not personally tested that. iOS also has a native accessibility feature in settings for text to speech that will work on the Books app, so I assume Android has a similar functionality. I need to have in-app notifications for updates/I can't ever find story updates in among the rest of my emails/checking my email stresses me out.

Set up a separate email address using a free service like gmail, and use that email address JUST for AO3. Then the only emails in that inbox will be your story updates. I use Apple's Mail application for all my inboxes, but it's very easy to use the Gmail app instead, and you could log in to JUST the ao3 email and set it to notify for every email.

(Also as a general PSA: don't use your work, school, or military email as your AO3 email. Just don't.)

I want statistics like how many hours I spent reading, how many words I read, what my most read tags were, stuff like that.

So we've finally hit something that isn't easy and that requires a hell of a lot of manual work. Short version: AO3 does not track this data because they don't want to. (Mostly due to privacy concerns.) The lack of this tracking is a feature, not a bug. You can crunch these numbers yourself, but it will take a hell of a lot more effort, and it's something I personally found is not worth the effort the couple of times I have tried to crunch those numbers. If you are willing to download your history to an actual computer (not a tablet or chromebook) using Calibre, you can get a rough idea of your most popular tags via their tag browser, but it won't play nice with typos synned to a Common Tag (Canonical Tag/filterable tag) like ao3 does. (If anyone has used an app that gave you stats on this, please let me know in reblogs/replies/via ask how that worked because I am very curious.)

Anurak is actually one of Petrichor's more regular clients and as such their relationship is like "I'm your therapist but by god I want to hit you with a car" and "I want to strangle you for failing to use Lady Halone's name in place of your 'god'". Anurak doesn't live at Façade save for when he's having a psychotic girl moment and the church isn't letting it stay with them for Psychotic Girl Reasons. Petrichor is a very reasonable person but oh my god you're fucking insane what's wrong with you.

I don't think that Amnuai has had that moment purely because Absinthe doesn't have a brain for the most part. Ce is ungodly unaware of cer own emotions but incredibly in tune with other people's, including absinthe, so doesn't find it hard to dance around cer feelings for him in a way that still allows for his affections and cer caring. There's a chance that ce's been like that to Petrichor before (they get along well and are mostly sane and normal, unlike Literally Everyone Else) but it manifested like "Would that I could live in a world without Absinthe. I find it difficult to lay my heart to rest when he's around." "Im going to call you a slur are you okay with that" (SAID JOKINGLY).

UDOMWIT. MY GUMBLY FUCKING MEOW.

Despite being one of the most eccentric people there (minus anurak, who believes halone speaks through him etc. etc) she's fully convinced that she's destined to be a background character in everyone else's stories and acts as theatrical and as memorable as possible to try and cement her place in other people's legacies, if only for a night. She and Petrichor are playing gay chicken in the sense that wit won't allow herself to burden someone like him with her love and petrichor is solving peoples problems to avoid dealing with his own (he and amnuai tend to bond over this). She loves him though and it's clear for everyone to see. Udomwit calls everyone "love" and "dear" but it shows up a lot more with petri than anyone else, she loves through food and asks him to taste test her menus and desserts a lot, the act of sharing a business together is one of love as well.

Wit has known Estmund for a very, very long time. He's actually the one who taught her more refined cooking stuff when she came to Coerthas for the first time (up until then she was mostly just a homecook and that hasn't really changed). This Was A While Ago. 18 summers or so? Udomwit is like 38 and Estmund is like 52 but nobody believes how long they've been friends bc one larps as a vampire and the other Goos His Face everyday with Plant Goop to keep looking 25. Hyur curse. Whenever Estmund comes to visit he brings a sodoku or crossword book and they do it together. The two of them tend to bounce resippies off of each other a lot and its nice when they cook together because everyone goes home with like 3 full plates of food because god these two don't know how to cook small portions when they get excited about food.

She. Does not handle Anurak well. She's bad with conflict because oh she just wants to keep everyone happy and well fed and safe but isn't incapable of putting her foot down when things get dire, even if it really does break her heart a little to do so.

Anurak keeps its head down at the bar unless Jerome is there mostly under threat of Amnuai Is Going To Beat You To Death. They get on rather well, don't get me wrong, but only whilst Anurak is having a normal one and when things stir up with Jerome she isn't usually the first to jump in to stop it. This isn't out of lack of responsibility or anything, just that she's a Little Scary when she's angry or being authorative and Petrichor is better at de-escalation wrt those two. Anurak. is like a cornered animal 9 times out of ten, Udomwit is a calming presence for the most part and let's him get the stress from being Catholic out a little bit when Petrichor isn't around.

so, ive been rewatching season two of arcane, and noticed a few things

in viktor's commune, this is the kid that leads jayce to viktor. i always thought it was like... an odd amount of focus to be put on this character. tho i wasnt really thinking too much of it, because arcane loves to zero in on background characters in a sort 'mulan and the others find a doll in the wreckage of a village' kind of way, you know? look small for big impacts.

now, in ekko's alternate reality in episode seven. i always like watching the crowds of zaunites, mainly searching for easter eggs and any possible connections that i can draw back to our main universe. and i may have found one

this is, obviously, the same fucking kid.

what i think is most interesting about this, though, is that in the 'good ending' universe that ekko ended up in, zaun was a community where physical differences and disabilities, like needing a wheel chair as mobility aid, were not seen as something needing to be fixed. it can be implied that there are probably a lot more ways of making things accessible in that version of zaun, and that disabilities dont prohibit zaunites from being with others and doing what they want.

unlike in our universe, where this was clearly not the case. i think that that crowd shot is, in a way, a direct parallel to viktors backstory opening shots.

the group of children playing together as a group, and viktor, another child with a physical disability, is forced to be off by himself. isolated either because of his peers not wanting to be around him, or because the environment around him is just not accessible (most likely both)

they basically hand it to us. singed asks why viktor isn't playing with the other children, and all viktor has to do is show the fact that he is disabled for singed to understand. the inaccessibility and exclusion and ableism is just a fact of life.

so, it makes sense that when viktor gets the ability to heal others, he makes this child able bodied, just like he did for himself. viktor can't even conceive of a society like the zaun and piltover that ekko ended up in, because his whole life he has been cast aside due to his disability.

its just interesting to me that they made the child who brings jayce to viktor at the commune be another young zaunite with a mobility aid, just like viktor was. especially how later, jayce is the one to tell viktor the monologue about how he was never broken, and his disability wasnt something he needed to completely remove, because it was a part of him, and who he was already was enough.

just some cool food for thought!
