In the Pokémon universe there are people who refuse to believe Clefairy is a fairy type. You can show them all the evidence in the world and all the research papers proving it was incorrectly labeled a normal type prior to the discovery of the fairy type, but they won’t believe you. They will send out their clefairy into an incoming poison type move, watch it deal double damage, and still say it’s not super effective because when they were in pokéschool they learned that Clefairy is a normal type pokemon

When did Machete realize he was gay? Was it only when he met Vasco, or was it earlier and he just repressed it?

If you asked him, he might admit that in retrospect he must've had a vague inkling earlier (thinking of all the times he let his gaze linger on a painting of some handsome nobleman a little longer. Which almost makes it like... a 16th century equivalent of having a secret fictional crush). But I think it probably would've been more of a detached, aesthetic attraction than anything he recognized as distinctly gay, bad and worth of repressing. It's not a sin to quietly appreciate art and the beauty of the human form.

I'd say Vasco, his best friend at the time, was most likely the first real person he had actual feelings for. The realization was so distressing he stayed in denial about the whole thing for a good while.

I am not anti-marriage, but I have to say I am personally losing my faith in it. The number of marriages that look healthy and supportive to me are so few. All the time, I am seeing women give everything to their husbands only to be belittled by them and joked and complained about when they become overwhelmed. I am seeing men become increasingly more radicalized by online misogyny and treating their wives with even less respect. As they age and need more love and support, they are getting less and being treated as a commodity that's been used up and has no value anymore. This is happening to varying degrees around me, and I'm just definitely never going to risk sharing my life with a man only to find out his love wasn't real when I'm going through menopause.
