okay i've gotta ask at this point. what. what is pursuit AU. I genuinely have no idea about any of it

Okay so basically it's a sequel to the fic that I refer to as YBM. I refer to the whole AU as "YBM/Pursuit AU" so if I refer to an individual part I just say the singular name (like if I'm talking about Pursuit specifically I just say "Pursuit"). I'm so normal about this AU

Anyways it's an Omori fic series so spoilers for the game under the cut

So the plot of YBM (full title "You're Back, Mari" which in itself is an Omori spoiler LMAO) it's complicated but it can be easily summarized as "Hero goes batshit insane and everyone has to deal with the consequences." The long version of it though is that Hero has spent so long repressing his grief over Mari's death that he starts hallucinating her ghost. You see, in this AU not long before Mari's death (iirc anyways, Fake-Ghost Mari could've said this it's been a long while since I've last read the fic tbh) the two of them had a conversation and Hero made a promise that, if anything ever happened to Mari, that we would look after her younger brother named Sunny. In the present, since Hero is currently Losing It™️ this promise of care turns into extreme overprotective behavior that actually ends up harming Sunny more than it helps. Don't worry though there's a happy ending to the fic where Hero starts his journey of healing and regaining his friends' trust

Anyways the Pursuit story takes place after the bad ending of YBM where Hero honest to god kidnaps Sunny. I am not joking this actually happens just stay with me here. After a timeskip of around five years after the events of YBM, Sunny gets rescued by another major character (Kel). The rest of the fic follows two major plotlines: the friend group all learning to readjust to having their (presumed to be dead but clearly still alive) friend back with them and working through their different traumas together, and then the process of Hero on a mission to find and (in his mind) "rescue" Sunny. There are three endings to this fic and they all make me want to saw off my feet (POSITIVE)

YBM is around 197k words and Pursuit is around 160k? I think?? This isn't even addressing stuff from YBM's cut content and the Pursuit Hero x Reader (queerplatonic) fic that the author wrote <- I AM DEAD SERIOUS THIS IS REAL. This all went on from like March 10th, 2021 to April of 2022. The fic series itself is close to 400k words of total posted/published writing. Right now the fic is listed under anonymous because people can't fucking read and think the fic is about shipping 😭😭

ITS NOT ABOUT SHIPPING.... ITS ABOUT THE TRAGEDY OF HOW DEEP CARE FOR OTHERS CAN TURN SOMEONE INTO SOMETHING UNRECOGNIZABLE...... the story is so deeply entrenched with concepts revolving around love and care and protection and the lengths people will go to in order to "save" the people they care about. It's about who's your favorite mentally ill person it makes me so insaneeeee

hi yeah so uh. surprise!! i have an omori bteam au. uh omori spoilers under the read more where i explain the character roles and other stuff abt the au so like if you wanna check out omori this is where you stop reading, i will not be holding back on the details

so this au was made because i realized omori and the new kid have similar plots so i was like yeah fuck it uhhh. character reasonings and other stuff are shown below

devon - sunny / omori : devon's the main reason kelsey died in new kid, sunny kicked off what spiraled into mari's death in omori. idk what the accident here is but it sure did happen and devon sure did close himself off from everyone!! uh he doesn't go full hikikomori like sunny does but he stops being active in his friends' lives and lives off in his own little world

mick - basil : was compliant in keeping quiet about the death. granted, mick didn't really do anything physically to aid devon in covering up the accidental murder, but he did keep quiet about it, and was clearly affected by it, much like basil is in omori. also basil and sunny are best friends, and mick and devon are best friends.

kelsey - mari : the victim of an accident. again, i'm not sure what the accident in the au is but it was, in fact, that, much like it is in new kid. kelsey is a bit more malicious towards devon?? actively getting him into trouble in the dream world and such. also in the real world kelsey is referred to as adam by pretty much everyone, aka the hc alive name me and my friend have for them.

millie - aubrey : a bit shakier on the parallel thing but there's a few. namely abandonment issues, millie has those before anything happens, and they get way worse after kelsey / adam dies, kinda like aubrey. she still has sarah though, at least. but yeah millie gets really pissed at devon and alec leading to the fight shown above.

alec - kel : alright this is where it goes from " actual parallels to the character " to " i am making this up as i go <33 " uhhh. really the only thing i can point to is the family structure ( since i hc julius to be alec's older brother, alec has the same family structure as kel : an older brother, and a younger sister ) and the favoritism from his parents. but yeah alec is the one to get devon back out of his house

julius - hero : prettyboy /j

in all seriousness though, this is mostly just because he's alec's older brother, and something something hero is kel's. though i can see julius charming enemies in the dream world. he's a lot nicer here than he is in canon though but that's probably because this has the same timeskip omori does, being 4 years, so he's matured quite a bit.

speaking of which yeah uh. 4 year timeskip is here so everyone is in their late teens ( devon is 18, millie, mick and alec are 19 ) except julius, who's 20. everyone in the dream world is closer to their usual looks while in the real world they're all a bit different ( at least fashion-wise. though alec DID finally fix his bangs. )

hey, omo fandom, start normalizing AUs that are just in good fun and are just goofy and feel-goody

You can have your complex stories still, add some angst if you so wish, but can we please start having more AUs where things just go well for Sunny and his friends???

Like. Do a timeskip where they can heal and just put them in funny scenarios post good ending

It doesn't even have to be the post good ending, go with the hikkiomori route for all I care!

You can focus on the ships if you want to, genuinely. I don't see enough people doing this

The fandom's kinda dying right now due to a lack of variety. I know OMORI is a dark game that covers heavy topics, but you can still make it funny and fluffy! It's what I'm doing.

That, and, maybe we shouldn't focus on Headspace so much. Yeah, it's an integral part of OMORI as a whole, but I feel as though it's unanimous that the fandom prefers the Real World segments due to how down to earth the characters are, the more laid back gameplay that doesn't seem like a slog, etc.

Focus on obscure stuff in your AUs, maybe don't make them filled with angst!

And please, no more roleswaps...they're REALLY overdone in this fandom

we don't want to become the next Undertale, I can promise you that much.

okay I'll put this all under a cut just in case I do work on the fic more one day

so for me to properly answer this I'll have to spoil what happened with the other headspace characters, which I can easily do! because that's the first thing I ever thought about in this au!

we already saw that aubrey took over what was left of sweetheart's castle and made it into her own fortress. as for the rest of them, weeeellll...

hero, upon everyone giving up on their search for basil, mari, and omori, went back to his old job at the last resort and eventually climbed the ranks to owner. this is similar to the bossman hero sequence but it's much more gradual than instant like it is in the game. he's corrupted by capitalism, of course, but also by revenge. since everyone got their memories of past loops back, hero's not really fond of omori, just like aubrey. except this time he's convinced he killed mari rather than basil.

so I don't think hero would be very trusting of sunny, either. however! he's a gentleman! so he'd give sunny the benefit of a doubt--by offering him a job to get him away from that monochrome bastard, or. well. trapping him and forcing omori to bet on whether he lives or dies! it's a gamble!

sunny's of course appalled, because this guy is nothing like the hero he knew. he's not even sure if it's possible for hero to act that despicable. with aubrey it was almost expected, but hero? out of the question.

alright, I actually didn't have much of anything planned for kel, but what I do have is this: he left for otherworld to be a space pirate, and also climbed the ranks up to first mate! yay! oh and an old idea of mine (well. my old beta reader's) was that they sometimes raided last resort for the money, but...idk, it doesn't sound right.

anyways! kel's a breath of fresh air compared to the other two, in that he's scared of omori, but really trusting of sunny! they look similar, sure, but they're different people, so it's okay! and on sunny's end...well, it's still kel. good old kel. guy with toooootally no issues.

now that I think about it, that arc could have sunny realize that kel's one to hide his emotions....hmmm....

I think he and hs kel could be sort of friends maybe? if omori wasn't factored into the equation, at least. again, I haven't figured out anything regarding this arc, so a lot's in the air.

basil!!!! basil really looks up to sunny now that he knows he's basically god! and that makes sunny feel really awkward! their dynamic would be so funny, I can imagine hs basil asking all sorts of things about sunny and his reality while sunny's very embarrassingly like "haha,,,, yeah,,,,"

on the other hand, stranger (in their flower form) probably wouldn't let sunny hear them! they don't like that he's all buddy-buddy with omori!!! that guy's dangerous, dreamer! stay away!!!! so all sunny knows is that basil has a talking flower that doesn't like him and won't talk to him. SAD!
