Omi and Jack’s 1st interaction

I know Omi called Jack ‘friend’ because he wanted to be more polite in order to reclain Mantis Flip Coin from Jack, but... taking into consideration their later showdowns/nemesis small talks I have no choice but to overanalyse. 

Omi: says hello

meanwhile Jack: what? something small is talking to me? Hmm weird but ok I’ll let him finish. 

Omi: HELLO FRIEND. 

(he seems to be so official but that animation frame only highlights how short he is) (Also mind you that animators chose the camera being from Jack’s perspective. We see Omi as Jack is seeing him in this exact moment. 

Omi continues: This coin is of a very mystical importance.

Omi: May we please, have it?

ok. What we/Jack know(/s) from this short performance? 

1. Cheeseball is extremely polite and means no harm (yet!)

2. He is still a child (undoubtedly younger than Jack and other monk dragons)

So, no wonder Jack treats him as every bad boy bully should. 

Jack: No way shortie, this shen gong wu is MINE! Jacbots, mince them!

But you know what’s beautiful? 

That they keep this rivalry going for all the seasons. 

First showdown ever? Jack vs Omi. Chemistry? Good. Who corrects Omi’s slang errors when Rai or Clay cannot do it? Jack. The legendary ‘three seconds rule’?  YES.

What is more, Jack seems to interact with Omi most often if we compare how many times he talks with other monks. Clearly Omi is his favorite. They’re fond of each other in an oddly manner. 

Omi is the only one who suggests helping Jack once in a while. 

Additionaly, in spite of Jack’s lack of training he seems to keep up with Omi during their showdowns and they compete in a close contest, that is why episodes with them as enemies are fun to watch. 

Let’s end it here bc I’m afraid I’ll start going on about ‘what if scenarios’ in which they could be brothers... Jack would’ve been to Omi a friend similar to Rai and Jermaine if it weren’t for his plans for world domination...

I really love the bond between Omi and Jack, they’re my second favorite BrOTP in Xiaolin Showdown.

Omi even goes out of his way to stand up for and defend Jack, even when the other monks get annoyed with that and imply that they should literally let the dude die. He seems to be the only one who believes in and likes Jack to some extent, and the Truth or Lie showdown even serves to prove to Jack that Omi’s belief in him does come from somewhere deeply genuine, something Jack had a hard time buying at face value. (Shame that lacked followup) Omi even praises Spicer where praise is due, giving him accolades about how Wuya would have been impossible to defeat without him. They tease each other, fight each other the most, but also hug each other and keep switching between which one wants to be hugged or held and which one yells out “three-second-rule!”

Omi is naïve and hopeful, but he really only is that insistent about seeing the good in villains when it comes to Jack Spicer and Chase Young. And that’s because Omi personally likes them as people and has a fun dynamic with them. His frenemy relationship with Jack is more tsundere and vitriolic then the frenemy relationship he has with Chase, who he views as a cool, older mentor and role model. But it’s undeniable that among the villains and the monks, Omi’s one of the few people to express that he cares about Jack’s wellbeing, wants him around, sees worth in him, and wouldn’t gleefully throw him into lava at the first chance he is given.

I like to think they really do go out for ice cream together sometimes.

I love Jack and Omi BrOTP too! I like Jack and Omi's friendship because I liked how Omi's like, the only one who consistently believes in and tries to reach out to Jack, even when Omi's friends are actively giving him dirty looks for doing it, lol. It's a really cute kind of stubbornness he never really gives up on.
