It was on a somber, rain-swept spring day that Eddy’s body, weary from months of relentless illness, finally surrendered to its affliction.
Eddy was laid to rest beside Helena under the brooding canopy of oaks, the family bringing small tokens of remembrance—flowers, candles flickering against the wind, and the heavy scent of earth mingling with the rain.
Though the Coombes were invited to both funerals, they failed to attend. Silas muttered something about business obligations, while Edith claimed prior social engagements, revealing their priorities in stark relief. Despite their long-standing friendship with the Harrington's, it seemed societal stature was most important.
Other Farmers the Harrington's had worked with gathered in to respect Eddy and Helena’s memory.
In Loving Memory of Edward Harrington 1860 – 1908
Eddy, who had once lost everything to illness and economic despair during the Silver Panic, sought a second chance in Henford. With nothing left but hope, he returned to his old countryside hunting shack-
only to find it occupied by a prostitute named Helena.
Eddy chose compassion, allowing her to stay with the stipulation that she refrains from bringing clients to their home.
Eddy, grew fiercely protective of Helena, and once stood against an abusive client, further cementing their partnership. Despite living in extreme poverty, their spirits remained unbroken, scavenging and laboring to survive.
Eddy grappled with the heavy burden of their situation, often going into town to drink, Their struggle intensified when Helena revealed her pregnancy.
Rather than abandoning hope, Eddy doubled his efforts, employing his craftsmanship to support their burgeoning family.
As a man of the old west, Eddy clung to the traditions he believed in, resisting the tides of the encroaching industrial age.
He envisioned a future grounded in the family business, he believed that this was the rightful path for his children—Silas, the heir to his legacy, and Lucile, prepared for a life of being a perfect wife.
Eddy & Helena raised their children with the idea Silas, being the 1st born son would inherit the business and Lucile would be trained to be the perfect wife.
Eddy’s aversion to change became a defining trait, his stern demeanor masking a deep-seated fear for his loved ones' futures. He wielded his paternal authority with a heavy hand, driven by the conviction that he was shielding his family from an uncertain world.
Despite his rigidity, Eddy’s actions were fueled by an unwavering devotion to those he cherished, striving to create a stable and prosperous life for them.
Eddy lived to the age of 48 & is survived by his children, Silas and Lucile.
Rest in peace cowboy... you will be missed.
