FABIEN FRANKEL AND MATT SMITH DISCUSS THEIR CHARACTERS FOR FORBES MAGAZINE.
frankel talking about criston and daemon:
“They both have a great kind of violence inside of them, and they’re good at it.”
“So, with that kind of mindset, you’re therefore drawn to putting yourself in situations where you can let that violence out, to some extent.”
“I think they’re also kind of both suffering great loss.”
“I think weirdly for Criston, it’s like his loss of freedom.”
“I think once he left being a solider and became a member of King’s Landing, he lost his freedom in his head.”
“Then obviously for Daemon, it’s his brother - loss and violence, I suppose.”
matt smith added:
“I would sort of echo those sentiments, really.”
“I think strangely, as well, when you look at them, they are both at times - they are both kind of frightened little boys, aren’t they, without any real guidance.”
while seated beside frankel during our conversation, matt smith said to his house of the dragon co-star:
“You never really hear about your sort of family back home at all, do you?”
“Perhaps they were quite isolated as young people.”
“There’s a scene in the first season where [our characters] get together and there’s a mini sort of standoff, and I think there’s a recognition in them both that they’re probably more similar than they let on.”
matt smith on daemon targaryen in s2:
“Well, I don’t really judge his decisions too much.”
“I just try and engage in the behavior as truthfully as I can on behalf of him, so to speak.”
“I don’t think, ultimately, he’s very interested in power.”
“I think he’s more interested in chaos and disorder and the thrill of - I don’t know, it’s like being on a jet ski with an axe in your hand, riding towards an army.”
“He lives for whatever that feeling is, if you could kind of bottle that up.”
“When he’s not feeling something akin to that, he just causes problems.”
“He’s outlandish.”
when asking frankel for his thought process as an acting partner with olivia cooke during those heated scenes, he said:
“I don’t want to speak too much to sort of what Olivia and I have spoken about, because I think that it’s for the audience to decide what they see as the sort of justification for the relationship - be that the genuine love or infatuation, or whether it’s a strategic move on either of their parts, because there’s benefits for both of them, I suppose.”
“What I will say is those scenes, in general, really come down to having an amazing director and Clare Kilner, who helmed sort of the majority of mine and Olivia’s kind of romantic-type scenes, made that such a collaborative experience and such an easy one.”
“Thankfully, Olivia is a great friend and very easy to work with.”
i was curious as to what smith and frankel would say to their somewhat enigmatic characters, if only they could.
instead of answering for his own character first, smith jokingly said of frankel’s criston:
Well, I’d go up to Criston Cole and I’d go, ‘Mate, you need to change your wardrobe. You’re always in that.’
frankel added with his message for criston:
“I think I’d say - take a holiday, son.”
“I think he’s just like been - he needs to get out of there for a moment.”
“That trip to Essos sounds pretty lovely, really.”
“Get himself some fresh oranges and make a mimosa.”
matt smith concluded:
“I’d say to Daemon - have you thought of going dark?”
“Hair color, really.”
“Have you thought of a ‘new hair, new you’ sort of thing?”
“It might change your perspective.”

The Sacrifice - Part 2
Olivia bounced on her father's knee and giggled as he hummed her favorite song. That song was one of Roman's earliest memories, though he couldn't remember where he'd learned it from.
Not his own mother, that was for sure. His dad, perhaps, back before...everything.
Even though he'd felt deeply betrayed by Jacob getting the fertility treatments behind his back, and fatherhood had terrified him at first, Olivia had utterly charmed him.
Roman cherished the weekends he got to spend with his daughter. They were over all too quickly.
"How's my favorite girl doing? Been having fun with daddy?"
The toddler gurgled and laughed, gazing at Jacob with such adoration it made Roman flush with envy. He clamped down on the emotion, and instead tried to focus on what was best for Olivia.
"We've been watching TV and playing with Mr Bunny. She's also been fed and had her diaper changed."
"Sounds like quite the busy evening!"
"Her things are over there...I, um...I'll see you in a couple of weeks. You both take care, alright?"
"We will. You too, Roman."
Something was left unspoken, a yearning that neither man would admit, but which filled the space between them like something palpable. Their young daughter, however, had no such qualms.
"Stay, Daddy! Play!"
"Daddy must go now, sweetie, but Dada is here. Besides, it's bedtime."
Olivia's lower lip began to tremble, which Roman took as his cue to leave. There was no point in drawing out the inevitable.
"I'll be back before you know it; I promise."
A thick, rolling fog had descended with the sunset, shrouding the town as Roman made his way back to the tram stop. Since it was late, he decided to take a shortcut through a quiet little graveyard, deserted at that hour.
The sound of the gravel being crushed under his feet was strangely muffled, distant. The fog created the illusion that the world had ceased to exist beyond those moss-covered fences, trapping him in an endless, grey limbo. It was unnerving.
Roman quickened his pace, then stopped abruptly, his skin pickling all over.
He had the unpleasant sensation of being watched.
As he listened to the approaching footsteps, a chill coursed down his spine and he smothered the sudden impulse to flee.
This was ridiculous! It was probably just someone else cutting through the graveyard, same as he was.
Heart pounding, Roman turned around...but nothing could have prepared him for the shock of what - or rather, whom - he saw standing before him.
There she was, practically unchanged from the last time he'd seen her: the woman who had caused him so much pain, the reason his father was dead and Roman had learned to fear magic - Eliza Clare, his mother, in the flesh!
"Hello, dear. My, my, how tall and handsome you've become. Come here, let me have a proper look at you."
Roman nearly fell over backwards in his haste to get away from her.
It was impossible! Eliza Clare, if she still lived, would be a much older woman! This couldn't be her, it was a hallucination, he was having some kind of - of mental breakdown! It felt awfully real, though.
"N-no...you can't be...! You...GET AWAY FROM ME!"
"That's no way to speak to your mother!"
Eliza's true power lay in her ability to bend the minds of those around her, and she had made her son's mind her playground long ago. Even after all those years, it was like stepping into a pair of well-worn shoes.
"Now - let's go home, shall we?"
"Yes, mother."

Malectober 2023
Day 20: Sour
So the explanation for this one is that the song is from Olivia Rodrigo’s album SOUR, which I know is a couple of degrees removed but I wanted to do it 😅 I had the idea of just focusing on Malec post-breakup, with a look at Magnus’s thoughts (and maybe there’s some sourness there too, idk).

The film Joyride (that was filmed around County Kerry and County Clare [for at least one scene] a couple of years ago) that stars Olivia Colman, Charlie Reid (and Tommy Tiernan and other prominent Irish actors in side roles) is now out on Netflix in UK/Ireland, and i keep pausing to spot all the locations I recognise 😂😍
Like, it blows my mind that they filmed scenes for the film in the area where you queue for the ferry and on the ferry itself between County Kerry and County Clare that I commute on every few weeks 😍
Like, they even have the main characters missing the ferry and having to wait for the next one to come around (which has happened to me before 😂), plus the safety announcement over the loudspeakers that I hear during every trip - I could literally recite it word-for-word 😂
I've sat on those seats on the upstairs viewing platforms before 😂
Also, this scene has Tommy Tiernan's character playing the Home and Away theme tune on the tin whistle as part of an impromptu singalong with Olivia Colman and Charlie Reid's characters 😂👏😍
Bonus round: Kerry Airport! Where I'll be flying from when I go on my holidays in the beginning of September 😊
It's mad to see the local further education college credited on a big film like this 💖

I was listening to Olivia Rodrigo's Sour and i came to a realization that is Julian's album, like every song is sooo him principally in the end of lady midnight and lord of shadows, once you star doing the parallels you cannot think otherwise.

WRITER SARA HESS TALKING ABOUT RHAENYRA AND ALICENT'S RELATIONSHIP IN SEASON 1 AND THEIR MOTHERHOOD FOR VARIETY MAGAZINE.
“I can definitely understand that it’s hot watching complex female characters who have agency and who are trying to navigate the world and understand themselves. Like, that is hot,” nonbinary actor D’Arcy says.
“And is very different from, I suppose, more two-dimensional portrayals of female sexuality.”
Cooke adds: “I guess what’s alluring, and quite scintillating, is that they all live in quite close proximity to each other,” noting “House of the Dragon” Season 1’s focus on keeping its characters near the Iron Throne in King’s Landing.
“Stealing these loaded looks with someone that you fancy and that’s forbidden, that’s hot. It’s all hot.”
“We had a lot of conversation at the beginning about, is this a feature or a flaw?” Hess says.
“There’s a lot of births, do we want to see a lot of births? My thinking was, every single childbirth I’ve ever seen on television, in any show, in any genre at any time, has always looked exactly the same: the woman lying on her back with her feet in the stirrups and doing the pushing and the baby comes out.”
“In my experience, women give birth in vastly different ways.”
“I thought we should show them all and they be really, really different, separate experiences and not just, now there’s that birth scene and we all know exactly what it looks like.”
FOLLOWING THE BIRTH SCENE IN EPISODE 6, D'ARCY RECALLS SHOOTING A PARTICULARLY REALISTIC MOMENT OF MOTHERHOOD WHEN RHAENYRA FINALLY GETS TO REST AFTER GIVING BIRTH AND IMMEDIATELY GOING OFF TO SHOW THE BABY TO ALICENT:
“She gets in and [her sons] Jace and Luke have gone and got a dragon’s egg and want her to look at it.”
“And I just remember responding, ‘Wow, that looks perfect,’ but not looking at them at all, I was looking in the other direction.
“And that felt like what a lot of parenting is probably like.”
FOR COOKE, THE MOTHERHOOD MENTALITY HIT IN EPISODE 9, WRITTEN BY HESS AND DIRECTED BY CLARE KILNER:
“That moment in the carriage where Alicent’s hungover son asks her if she loves him, and she says it by smiling and saying, ‘You imbecile.’
“Like, it’s so obvious, this is all for you.”
“Everything that I’ve done.”
“Everything that I’ve sacrificed.”
“All the awful things I’ve done in order to facilitate your ascension is because I love the bones of you.”
BUT MOTHERHOOD IS FAR FROM THE ONLY ASPECT OF A WOMAN'S LIFE THAT FEMALE WRITERS LIKE HESS AND WOMEN DIRECTORS INCLUDING KILNER AND PATEL INFUSED INTO THE STORY, WITH MUCH OF THE SEASON FOCUSING ON YOUNG ALICENT (EMILY CAREY) AND RHAENYRA (MILLY ALCOCK) AND THEIR DEEP BOND AND INTENSE FALLING OUT.
“There’s an element of queerness to it,” Hess says.
“Whether you see it that way or as just the unbelievably passionate friendships that women have with each other at that age.”
“I think understanding that element of it sort of informs the entire rest of their relationship… Even though they’re driven apart by all these societal, systemic elements and pressures and happenings, at the core of it, they knew each other as children, and they loved each other and that doesn’t go away.”
Hess continued: “Olivia has told me she believes — and this is her headcanon — that they at some point kissed or made out or had some kind of physical interaction that Alicent’s mother found out about and forbade.”
“And that was Olivia’s head story, ‘Oh, I can’t do that. That’s not right.’ And that’s the background for her in their relationship going forward. I would be 100% down with that.”
COOKE SAYS SHE AND D'ARCY HAVE “DEFINITELY” TALKED ABOUT ALICENT AND RHAENYRA BEING “EACH OTHER'S FIRST LOVE”:
“But when it comes to our iterations of the characters, too much has happened and too much time has passed to probably even recognize those fledgling feelings.”
“But Condal and Hess weren’t “necessarily interested in ever defining” what that love meant in terms of the women’s sexuality.”
“I happen to be a queer woman, but I know straight women who had ‘Heavenly Creatures’ -esque, romantic friendship with their best friend at that age,” Hess said.
“That’s something that I think, probably — I don’t want to stereotype anybody – but it seems to be more a phenomenon with young women than it is with men, probably because whether you’re queer or not, society cares less if you’re physically intimate with each other or hugging or touching each other.”
“You can have sleepovers and sleep in the same bed and nobody cares.”

MY SHADOWHUNTER FANCASTS / FACECLAIMS
AC = CASSANDRA JEAN
this really isn’t generalised to one series, just particularly face claims / fan casts I have for the characters !! This is just how I see them BTW. (Also, I made this because I was rlly bored- that’s why all the edited photos here look really bad HAHAAH)
JACE HERONDALE - Rudy Pankow
SEBASTIAN MORGENSTERN - TOM GLYNN CAREY
ISABELLE LIGHTWOOD - DEVA CASSEL
JEM CARSTAIRS - WILL GAO
JESSAMINE LOVELACE - HANNAH DODD
I really wanna know what everyone else’s face claims / fancasts are ! So I can add them to my list.
Only on a little fun side note: this isn’t a fancast more like a hair cast (HAH that’s so stupid). But I really imagine Ty’S hair like this, and I hope they kind of stick to that during TWP.

The Sacrifice - Part 3
"Evelyn? What's up?"
"It's Roman. He hasn't come home last night, or this morning for that matter. Do you know where he is?"
To Jacob's surprise, Evelyn sounded worried.
"No, I don't know where he is. I haven't spoken to him since yesterday evening after he dropped off Olivia."
"Oh...right."
Jacob almost rolled his eyes.
"Are you sure he's not just staying over at someone's place and doesn't want to be disturbed?"
"I thought about that, but he's not answering his phone either. And get this: I get a call from some guy who claims to be a director, says Roman missed the morning shoot for the commercial he's supposed to star in. Weird, right? He was quite excited when he first got the gig."
There was a pause while Jacob considered this. It did seem rather odd that Roman would simply drop off the map like that. Odd and, if he was being completely honest, a little concerning.
"I really don't know what to tell you, Ev...I have no idea where he might've gone."
"Okay. Thanks anyway, Jake."
The call ended, leaving Jacob to stare pensively at Olivia's face beaming at him from the lock screen wallpaper. Suddenly, the silence blanketing the apartment felt subtly oppressive, as if it concealed a terrible secret.
Jacob frowned, and shook his head to dispel such fancies. Roman was most likely fine - it had just been a few hours, after all. He probably had one too many drinks and was nursing a hangover or something.
He made a move to pocket the phone - then pulled up his convo with Evelyn instead and began typing.
The hours passed with no news. Jacob even tried calling Roman himself, only for his calls to go to voicemail. Curiouser and curiouser; Roman was usually quick in answering his calls, in case they concerned their daughter.
Little by little, genuine concern began worming its way into his heart and nestled there, gnawing at his peace of mind.
Not long after 6 PM, he got a message from Evelyn saying she and Ulf were on their way, and he spent an anxious hour and a half until they arrived.
"Hey, guys. Are....you okay...?"
"Grr - Yes...Just raw from the change. Had no time to eat."
"We'll be fine. There's half a deer in the icebox when we get back. Now, let's talk about what we came here to do..."
"Ahh yes..." *sniff* "A strong scent trail, we should be able to follow it without too much trouble."
Jacob was having second thoughts about the whole thing.
"Maybe...maybe we should go to the police? If we think something happened to him..."
"And say what? He's an adult, it hasn't been that long, and we have no proof anything's wrong aside from our gut feelings. Even if they do take us seriously, it'll be hours before they do anything. We could find him right now - hey there, sweetie! Whoa, you've gotten so big!"
"Okay, fine. But I'm going with you."
"I'm not sure that's a good idea..."
"Why? Are you saying you think there could be danger involved?"
"I don't know, Jake. That's the problem."
"Well, I'm going! He's my - he's Olivia's father. My mind is made up, Ev, so let's not argue about it. Ulf, are okay to babysit?"
Ulf looked at his wife with sudden alarm.
"Hold on, I thought we were doing this together."
"We only really need one tracker, and I know Roman's scent better than anyone."
Ulf didn't like the reminder, but couldn't deny she had a point. It wasn't his only objection though.
"And what if there is danger -"
"C'mon, that's pretty unlikely - This is Mistvale, for Watcher's sake! I doubt anything here could threaten a werewolf. Besides, someone needs to keep an eye on little Liv."
"You are the pack leader...but a husband can't help worrying."
"And you are very sweet to do so, but I'll be fine. Most likely scenario? We'll find Roman passed out on someone's couch and I get to kick his ass for making us worry."
"I do know you are quite proficient at ass-kicking."
"Damn right I am!"
The light and warmth of the building seemed to recede behind them all too quickly.
"This way."
Jacob was glad to have Evelyn's nose guiding them, because that damnable mist made it impossible to see further than twenty paces or so.
It made the streets seem even lonelier and dingier than they were.

NCIS: Sydney – Extraction– TV Review
TL;DR – An incredibly contrived episode, but with some surprising moments of fun. ⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 3 out of 5. Disclosure – I paid for the Paramount+ service that viewed this series. NCIS: Sydney Review – While this season of NCIS Sydney has been chiefly okay so far, last week’s Doggieccino Day Afternoon was the first time I was very concerned that they might not be able to pull this off. Thus,…
