Yesterday was 2 weeks since I got my Olive eggers!! I tried to get pictures, but they're much more squirrelly this week than last lmao
1 week Plum, 2 week Plum
1 week Peach, 2 week Peach
1 week Cherry, 2 week Cherry
1 week Olive, 2 week Olive
Don't tell the other babies but Olive is my favorite out of the bunch, she's so silly, loves to sit with me, or staring at me and judging me, and omg she's already so good at flying! She flew about 8-10 feet yesterday, from the brooder box to a table to check out what was going on.
They're all really good babies, they like to sit on the lid and edge of the brooder box and just hang out and play, they aren't scared of the dog and the dog reacts well to them. I just love em so much 🥹

Finally got to play with the chicks when I cleaned the brooder this morning! And I took pictures! This is our cookies and cream, not the best picture, but you can see her extra toe and feathered leg.
The saphire jewel, she still has her egg tooth!
The wyandotte, she's our biggest chick. We're hoping for a blue, but right now it's hard to tell if she's going to be blue laced or black. Dark blue can be difficult to tell from black even on adult birds.
The cream legbar, she's our smallest chick.
The Rhode Island Red, 11yo is thinking about naming her Paprika.
And our olive egger. She's probably going to grow up to look like a legbar, but a little to the left. Right now the kids can't really tell her apart from the legbar and the wyandotte.

it's spring, which means chicks! We're letting our broody favaucana sit on a clutch of 5 eggs from our blue ameraucana roo now that he's off in roo heaven: lav splash ameraucana, blue frizzle silkie, splash easter egger leghorn cross, and cuckoo bluebar. Sadly Fava Beans (our favaucana) was broody for a while before we decided to let her mom it up, so no olive eggs in that nest. All of the resulting chicks will lay blue or pink/cream.
cross your fingers for us that they're all girls! I can't wait to see what the little puffs look like. I like heritage breeds but I do enjoy me a good easter egger mutt. (as evidenced)
some pics of the ladies as tweens for your consideration

I hope you know your chick/egg posts gave me the human broodiness and... now I have roughly 60+ chicks. I blame you /j (I hatched from roughly 2 dozen yard bird eggs and 2 doz each of CCL, third gen olive eggers, and BCM)
Uh oh, guess it’s contagious! Sorry everyone! /lh
I seriously am feeling that human broodiness thing, I’m thinking of the eggs every second and don’t even wanna leave the house - I can’t imagine how bad it’ll get once they start pipping. I imagine next weekend I won’t leave their side at all, so I’m making sure I have extra groceries and stuff so I won’t have to! And every day I look at a chart I found that shows what they look like and how they’re developing inside the egg.
Also, a CCL is a Crested Cream Legbar, right? I had to google it, lol. Have you had them before? What are they like? I really considered getting some, they look really cute and iirc the breeder I got my eggs from has them. Plus I’d love more colored egg layers. And Marans too, I’d like some of those someday too, what’s their personality like if you’ve had them before?

hello! i love your chicken posting and i was wondering, how many chickens do you have? how many grown chickens and how many chicks? what are their names? :0
currently i have six hens! i had to rehome one of them as she suddenly stopped getting along with all the others and i didn't have room to keep them permanently separated. but i can still visit her which is really nice!
the ones i have now are: ginger (buff orpington), felony (???), pepper (creme legbar), misdemeanor (opal legbar), and then the salmon faverolle 'twins', clovis and dream (chicken).
i also have sixteen chicks! three showgirls named bell, beef jerky 1, and beef jerky 2. a splash silkie named blue cheese, a thing that probably is a chicken i guess named creature, briar (olive egger), harlow (silkie), two unnamed white silkies, this chocolate looking cochin mix, milkweed (silkie), and then four millie fleur chicks: leviathan, turtle, and two that don't have names yet.

You have pet birds? If so, what species etc?
28 actually. I have backyard chickens, and ducks. ATM we have 3 baby chicks in the bathtub because they are too small to go outside, hence being in the bathroom with the birds.
More info beneath the cut because I love my babies but don't want to list all of them and clog people's feeds when no one cares lol
Edit: nevermind I have no idea how to add a cut and Google lied to me
I have
Chicky-chick (black sex link)
Regina George (black sex link)
Taco Bell (black sex link)
Bobbi (black sex link)
Peggy (buff orpington)
Eliza (buff orpington)
Presley (ameraucana)
Harriet (ameraucana)
Beans (ameraucana)
Priscilla (dominique)
Sam-I-Am (olive egger)
Ramona (olive egger)
Barbara (barnevelder)
Hazel (barnevelder)
Beatrice (silver laced wyandotte)
Caspian (silver laced wyandotte rooster)
Peter (svarthöna rooster)
Edmund (svarthöna rooster)
And the chicks, Susan and Lucy (white orpington) and.....an unnamed rhode island red.
Then there's Frankie, an absolutely massive Pekin, Percy Quackson, James Madison, Meg and Jo (black swedish) and Beth and Amy (blue swedish)
Here is pictures not of my specific birds, they aren't cooperative enough for that, but of their breeds and roughly what they look like
I can't fit pictures of duckies also so I will rb with em
But Priscilla is my precious baby and the first of our animals to show empathy to me, which is weird, because chickens aren't really supposed to show empathy at all? Even within their flocks they don't really show empathy. They'd rather eat each other alive. And we have animals that DO show empathy to humans. Dogs and cats, even goats are more affectionate at least, but no, it was the chicken. I was crying and she climbed onto my lap and cooed at me. None of our birds would do such a thing, none but her. I love her.

I'm sorry but I literally do not get the fucking point of Easter Eggers or Olive Eggers. Like... of all the things to prioritize in your flock you're going with egg color? So many people in my area are selling chicks/fertile eggs out of their EE/OE's too. Like babes... babes $45/dozen for BARNYARD mix is absurd.

not fandom related but can i please get an introduction to your chickens? i wanna meet those lovely ladies <3 (--direwombat)
Of course!! We started out with six day old chicks from Tractor Supply close to three years ago. The only one left from the original flock is Miss Pepper, she's the leader of the citrus squad. That's our four orange hens Beauty the bantam silkie, Skunk and Trash Boat, and Miss Pepper.
Then there's Gertrude and Grunhilda the Polish sisters, they're the black hens with big white tophats/ poofs.
Five (?) Wyandottes, two are known roosters. The largest Wyandotte rooster is Walter, second largest is Steve, and the one that I'm not quite sure on is Bud or Buddy. Bud is the friendliest one so far and if you ever see me with a black and orange chicken on me it's probably them. Only one of the Wyandotte pullets is named right now, partner calls her Pecker.
Two Easter eggers/ Americaunas, Miss Hawk and Chicken aka Soup. Hawk is a tan and grey mature hen that lays mint green eggs. Soup is much smaller, brown, orange, and grey. I'm not sure what color her eggs are yet, but we suspect that she lays the olive green ones. Soup is also Mr Dumpling aka Dumpledoo's sister. They both came from TSC (Tractor Supply Co).
One white Brahma hen named Co-producer Speed Weed. She's one of the largest hens in the flock next to our unknown breed large grey hen Daisy. Daisy is also the oldest flock member currently, believe she was twoish years old when we got her at a swap meet a year or so ago.
Miss Muppet is our white bantam silkie aka the fur bird. Her feathers are closer to fur or hair than our other silkie Beauty. She was bred from a white male silkie and one of the hens hens in our flock twoish years ago. Muppet is easily one of the best broody hens we have and has hatched out multiple clutches.
Dumpling aka Dumpledoo is the main rooster, he's white with orange, gold, and brown feathers, puffy cheeks, and a beard! He was originally purchased as a pullet at TSC but ended up being a rooster and is an absolute angel.
It's very muddy in the chicken run right now so here's a picture from late last year of some of the flock enjoying a morning sip!

Little miss Olive got to hang out in the grass for a little bit yesterday evening, she was posing a bit for me instead of trying to jump on my phone like normal :)

The babies are growing. We've had them for a full week now and their personalities are starting to emerge.
Limu is very busy, always running around.
Bibu is also very busy, and confident. I suspect she'll end up at the top of the pecking order, if not head hen. She was the smallest chick when they arrived but over the last week has passed Limu in size.
Lady Amalthea is one of my favorites. She's also very confident and doesn't hesitate to climb on me when I handfeed the chicks.
Paprika is curious and has no qualms expressing her opinion. I suspect she's my other contender for head hen.
Our wyandotte is the calmest of our chicks. She will lay in the palm of my hand and fall asleep. She continues to be the biggest chick.
Artemis is a strange little bird, she doesn't seem to be getting picked on or anything but she tends to hang out on her own.
You can see how much shorter the wyandotte's feathers are!

WELL I HOPE YOU ARE PLEASED WITH YOURSELF.
Your chick pix awoke my Chicken Math and I just added 4 Green Queen olive eggers to my upcoming 16 chick order. I got them for my broody brahma to raise. She has been sitting on her nest so diligently for two weeks and she deserves some babies for her hard work 🥰 itll be my first time letting one of my girls be a mommy.
You also inspired me to make a chicken/goose/garden centric sideblog 🥰
Oh dear, seems I’m an accessory to a crime! (/j)
But seriously, that sounds fun! Having a broody hen to raise chicks sounds like it would take the stress off of you - idk about everyone else but I always get nervous when I have to leave my chicks alone for a while in the brooder, and overnight. Maybe I’m just paranoid like that. But having a mama hen to keep an eye on them, and to teach them chickeny things, sounds like a big help. Maybe I’ll do that someday too! Let me know how it goes?
Also, I think you tagged me in a post with a video of a sweet little cockerel who was following you around? I saw the video, it was adorable, but the notification got buried under the notes from my chick/hatching posts so I can’t go back and find it to reblog like I meant to, so sorry about that!

The Chicken List
NB: when mentioned, "Farmer" is Mathias. Last updated: September 11, 2023.
2022
"Coffee Girls"
[Espresso • Female]
Black Jersey Giant
Lays a large egg, in a medium brown matte color. Sometimes has a pinkish purple bloom but rarely speckled.
Has a single/straight comb and had a fleshier, larger size as a pullet compared to the others. She walks tall.
The boss hen of the Black Jersey Giants. She is not bossy or a bully, but she is decisive.
Is not interested in humans. Would rather eat treats on the ground than in a hand.
Has good evasion and foraging skills. Great mother.
[Macchiato • Female]
Black Jersey Giant.
Lays a large egg, in a medium-light brown color. Sometimes has a dusty bloom.
Has a single comb, a large deep body, and meatier type compared to the others. She is low to the ground.
She is incredibly, so very, absent minded. She pecks at the ground and forgets where the flock is. Bless her heart.
Loves treats and is easily caught. Trusts handlers to lead her, but neutral towards humans otherwise.
Fantastic forager. Would lose to Darwin in the wild.
[Italiano • Female]
Black Jersey Giant
Lays a large, light-brown narrow egg, sometimes with a chalky bloom. Often speckled.
Has a single comb, as a pullet had a skinny body type. Fast metabolism.
So food motivated it's not funny. Easily becomes a rooster's favorite because of this.
Can be lured with treats but prefers Chip's tidbitting. Will calm down after being caught and enjoy lap time.
Great forager, great evasive skills. Unfortunately does not stand up to a roo.
[Frappe • Female]
Buff Orpington.
Lays a large, light brown/tan egg, sometimes with light speckles or calcium spots.
Has a single comb, had an average body type for a pullet. Slow growing, somewhat small for her breed.
Loves people. Will be up under Farmer if given the chance; however, this means she's not as social with her flockmates.
Great temperament, and very handleable. Stands up to roos, even of her own breed.
[Charles Entertainment Chicken • Male]
Buff Orpington.
Harvested on July 24, 2022 (20wks even). Single comb, average body type for a cockerel. Slow growing and had more feathers than meat at 20wks. Thin skinned.
Escape artist. Liked to challenge humans, but didn't see them as a threat. Easily herded by Farmer.
Poor rooster instincts at 20wks. Did not tidbit for the girls' attention nor did he lead well. Poor mounting ability.
Fickle and flighty temperament. Awkward. Little to no fight and might've left "his" hens if it came to fisticuffs.
"Grain Squad"
[SurvivorChip • Male]
Olive Egger (Marans × Ameraucana).
Single × Pea comb, slightly larger than average as chick and cockerel. Mostly black down with white spots.
HAND-RAISED. The only surviving chick out of four in the brooder. Challenges humans as a result.
Great rooster instincts. Tidbits, treads, and protects hens well. Sick evasive maneuvers. Possibly over-sensitive to "threats."
At least one copy of the feathered leg, ear feather, neck feather, and blue egg genes.
2023
"Flower Power"
[Hollyhock • Female]
Barnyard mix 01
Black Jersey Giant × Olive Egger (Marans × Ameraucana)
Incubator/Test Tube baby - June 21, 2023.
First to hatch. Comb is not yet apparent.
Ear muffs, a beard, and feathered legs. Will be culled from breeding if not otherwise exceptional.
Relatively calm disposition.
[Aster • Male]
Barnyard mix 03
Black Jersey Giant × Olive Egger (Marans × Ameraucana)
Incubator/Test Tube baby - June 21, 2023.
Second to hatch. Comb is not yet apparent.
Feathered legs. Will be culled from breeding if not otherwise exceptional.
Displays.... Boy behavior, yet is more reserved than his brothers.
[Indigo • Female]
Barnyard mix 02
Black Jersey Giant × Olive Egger (Marans × Ameraucana)
Incubator/Test Tube baby - June 21, 2023.
The third to hatch. Comb is not yet apparent.
Ear muffs and feathered legs. Will be culled from breeding if not otherwise exceptional.
Sweet. Is often content to sit in Farmer's hands.
[Hawthorn • Male]
Barnyard mix 04
Buff Orpington × Olive Egger (Marans × Ameraucana)
Incubator/Test Tube baby - June 21, 2023.
Fourth and final chick to hatch. Comb is not yet apparent.
Ear muffs, a beard, and feathered legs. Will be culled from breeding if not otherwise exceptional.
The most socialized because he's a family favorite.
Supposedly, Frappe's daughters should have dark dorsal patterns and light underbellies (countershading). The sons should remain light.
[Maple • Female]
Barnyard mix 05
Buff Orpington × Olive Egger (Marans × Ameraucana)
Espresso's baby; hatched roughly around June 28, 2023.
Presumably the first to hatch. Comb is not yet apparent.
Clean legs. Coloration is ideal.
Clever and avoids Farmer when able. Swift enough to evade getting her 1 week photograph.
[Sycamore • Male]
Barnyard mix 06
Buff Orpington × Olive Egger (Marans × Ameraucana)
Espresso's baby; hatched roughly around June 28, 2023.
Presumably the second to hatch; the smallest of the chicks. Comb is not yet apparent.
Clean legs, though will not likely be the better of Chip's sons.
Fearful of the environment, yet adventuresome and somewhat trusting of Farmer.
Supposedly, Frappe's sons should remain light except for a few black feathers scattered about.
