O’zapft is’! Time once again for the community to come together to enjoy life and experience Southwest Florida’s biggest party – the 38th Annual Cape Coral OKTOBERFEST!
The German American Social Club is excitedly getting ready for Munich in Cape Coral after being forced to shut down after Hurricane Ian last year. The Southwest Florida Community is invited to THE event for fun, great food, German beer, live music, laughter, and dancing – from Polka to Fliegerlied, to the Chicken Dance. Simply put, Oktoberfest represents German heritage at its finest, also known as German Gemütlichkeit. It is a time the German American Social Club looks forward to every year, when it can invite the community to come on out and celebrate with their clan or crew, significant other, or even by yourself – everyone is bound to meet like-minded friends at this fest!
With music flown in from Germany and local favorites, German food, and beer, there’s plenty of fun to go around, for any age. So, dust off your dirndls, launder your lederhosen, and join us for an EPIC time of stein slurping with your beste Freunde, even those you’ve just met.
This year’s dates are October 20, 21, and 22 and 27, 28, 29 – the last two full weekends of the month. The entire community will join us for some Gaudi – leg-slapping, joyous fun, where everyone feels welcome and a part of something special. Whether for a brat and beer to sit with family in the Bavarian Gardens, to join the fun and dance under the big tent, or to come for a full German meal of Sauerbraten or Schnitzel inside the Von Steuben Hall.
Opening hours are Fridays from 4 pm to midnight, Saturdays from noon until midnight, and Sundays from noon until 8 pm.
New this year is the VIP experience, featuring special seating, drink specials from our sponsor Jägermeister, a sit-down meal inside in the Von Steuben Hall, a glass HB beer stein and refills, and much more!
This year, after having to cancel their flights, the members of the Maselheimer Musikanten, the big band that the community welcomed in 2017, will be here, joined by KaBeGl, also from Germany.
The event will also feature local favorites such as The Boots, Deb & the Dynamics, A’Finnity, and award-winning acts such as Pitbull of Blues and new this year, Dottie Kelly Band, an IBC Memphis finalist. Also, Cape Coral’s own Hafenkapelle, Manni Daum Trio, and many more! There will be non-stop foot-tapping music on three stages in the tent, the gardens, and inside in the Edelweiss Hall; something for every ear.
Featuring outdoor exhibitors, food vendors that offer both German food and international, or a sit-down dinner in the Von Steuben Hall, Oktoberfest has so much to offer. Looking for a photo opportunity? Stop for a photo shoot with Lissette Ortiz-Teleweck, Ms. Oktoberfest 2023, or with one of several Ms. Oktoberfests from previous years wearing their pretty dirndls and elegant blue sashes.
The dedicated GASC members, each one of them volunteering their time and effort to create the region’s most successful event, welcome you to enjoy German heritage. Once you capture the magic, you’ll want to become a member as well. The New Members’ Booth will be happy to give you the information you need on how you, too, can join Cape Coral’s Best Social Club!
Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit!

The festival day half over, the Court and many visitors and villagers alike assemble upon the large chessboard (which Mount Hope has for....reasons) to witness and participate in a match of Human Chess between Queen Catherine of Aragon and Baron Helmut von Wolfe.  Tempers are congenial; yet even such sport as this is not free from the subtle powerplays of diplomatic matters.  Nevertheless, it promises to be an excellent game.  Sit back and allow Sir Walter to explain the rules in a manner both eloquent and informative.
Recorded by yours truly on Oktoberfest Weekend (Sunday October 1st) and Autumn Harvest Weekend (Saturday October 7th).
Description contains links to alternate recordings, though again only one leads to main season Chess, the others all being Halloween.

Trump Plans to Suspend Immigration to U.S. (NYT) President Trump said on Monday evening that he intended to close the United States to people trying to immigrate into the country to live and work, a drastic move that he said would protect American workers from foreign competition once the nation’s economy began to recover from the shutdown caused by the coronavirus outbreak. “In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens,” Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter, “I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!” The president’s late-night announcement on Monday signals his most wide-ranging attempt yet to seal off the country from the rest of the world. A formal order temporarily barring the provision of new green cards and work visas could come as early as the next few days, according to several people familiar with the plan.
“I just can’t do this.” Harried parents forgo home school (AP) Frustration is mounting as more families across the U.S. enter their second or even third week of distance learning—and some overwhelmed parents say it will be their last. Amid the barrage of learning apps, video meet-ups and e-mailed assignments that pass as pandemic home school, some frustrated and exhausted parents are choosing to disconnect entirely for the rest of the academic year. Others are cramming all their children’s school work into the weekend or taking days off work to help their kids with a week’s worth of assignments in one day. That stress is only compounded for families with multiple children in different grades, or when parents work long hours outside the home. In some cases, older siblings must watch younger ones during the day, leaving no time for school work.
A century later, victory gardens connect Americans again (AP) During World War I, posters proclaiming “Food will win the war” encouraged Americans to grow victory gardens. A century later, home gardeners are returning to that idea in the fight against a global pandemic. Backyard gardeners are coming together, mostly virtually, to learn and share stories on how to grow vegetables, fruits and flowers as the novel coronavirus raises fears about disruptions in food supplies and the cost of food in a down economy. “World War I, to me, is a pretty stark parallel,” said Rose Hayden-Smith, a historian and author of “Sowing the Seeds of Victory: American Gardening Programs of World War I.” “Not only was there a war, but there was an influenza pandemic.” Now, gardeners new and old are getting online and on social media to post pictures of freshly tilled backyards, raised garden beds, seeds germinating under grow lights or flocks of chickens. Some of these gardeners are newly unemployed, or working parents stuck at home with bored kids. Others are gardening enthusiasts who never had the time before to delve deep into the hobby. Urban community gardeners are ramping up production to feed families who have lost income and kids who no longer get meals at school.
Mexico’s president praises inmate amnesty as ‘humanitarian act’ (Reuters) A prisoner amnesty law in Mexico aimed at releasing non-violent inmates as a coronavirus containment measure won praise from President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Tuesday, coming as health authorities expect the virus to spread faster in the days ahead. The Mexican Congress passed the amnesty late on Monday. It will allow for the release of low-level offenders, including those convicted of robbery and small-scale drug possession, as well women jailed on abortion charges. It will also apply to indigenous convicts who did not receive an adequate defense due to language barriers and those who were coerced to work with criminal gangs.
British tabloids: ‘Distorted, false, or invasive beyond reason’ (CJR) Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have written to the British tabloids promising never to work with them again. The couple, who moved abroad and ended official royal duties last month, sent the letter to four of the main British tabloids—The Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Express and Daily Mirror—on Sunday evening. The former royals said they were implementing a new media-relations policy toward the outlets after the publication of what they believed were distorted and invasive stories. “It is gravely concerning that an influential slice of the media, over many years, has sought to insulate themselves from taking accountability for what they say or print—even when they know it to be distorted, false, or invasive beyond reason,” the couple said.
Normal influenza cases all but vanish in Europe (Reuters) Influenza, which each year kills hundreds of thousands of people worldwide, all but vanished in Europe last month as coronavirus lockdowns slowed transmission, according to EU data and scientists. The northern hemisphere’s winter flu outbreak normally runs from October until mid-May and in some seasons has claimed lives on the scale of COVID-19, despite the existence of a vaccine. Influenza killed 152,000 people in Europe in the 2017-18 winter. So far, COVID-19 has taken nearly 100,000 lives across the continent, albeit in a shorter period of time.
Virus forces cancellation of iconic events like Oktoberfest (AP) Spain canceled the Running of the Bulls in July, the U.S. scrapped the national spelling bee in June and Germany even called off Oktoberfest, making it clear Tuesday that the effort to beat back the coronavirus and return to normal could be a long and dispiriting process.
India’s migrant workers start heading home (Reuters) In one of the biggest mass movements of people in the country since the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, after the shutdown, the cities themselves began to empty. Dayaram Kushwaha and his family were among the first to move. As the days went on, and the situation became more desperate, hundreds of thousands of migrants emerged from factories and workplaces in search of a way home. Indian officials say the shutdown is necessary to beat coronavirus in the densely populated country of 1.3 billion people, with a health infrastructure that can ill afford a widespread outbreak. But for Dayaram and many of India’s estimated 140 million migrant laborers, the epidemic is much more than a threat to their health—it endangers their very economic survival.
Assertive China (Reuters) As the coronavirus crisis eases in China and rages elsewhere around the world, it is becoming increasingly assertive in the region. In a significant strike against democracy activists in Chinese-ruled Hong Kong, police in the city arrested 15 people on Saturday, just days after a senior Beijing official called for the local government to introduce national security legislation “as soon as possible.” China has also been flying regular fighter patrols near Chinese-claimed Taiwan and has sent a survey ship flanked by coast guard and other vessels into the South China Sea.
Netanyahu’s Power Is Extended as Rival Accepts Israel Unity Government (NYT) Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and his former challenger, Benny Gantz, agreed Monday night to establish a unity government, a deal that finally breaks a yearlong political impasse and keeps Mr. Netanyahu in office as he faces trial on corruption charges. After three inconclusive elections in the past year, the creation of the new government forestalls what had appeared to be an inevitable fourth election and offers a deeply divided Israel a chance for national healing as it battles the coronavirus pandemic. For Mr. Netanyahu, the agreement buys him time to try to resolve two contentious issues central to his legacy: to sidestep his prosecution or at least prevent it from driving him from power, and to extend Israeli sovereignty over occupied Palestinian territory.

The first time we went to Hamburg, it was for work. My husband was there with a team of chefs from the Philippines to promote our cuisine and I was tagging along so I could write about it and help promote the work the embassy is doing. There was so much to see but we only made it up to the old town on the way home as there was a lot of work to be done. Alvin made sure that we’d come back though because he had a must-visit place in this city – Miniatur Wunderland.
If you’re a fan of trains and planes (like my husband) and have been wanting your own miniature city at home complete with train tracks and an airport but your wife keeps saying no, then this is the place for you. Alvin was lucky enough to find a friend with the same interests in my friend Sarah’s boyfriend – Sergio.
So, on the last weekend of 2017, we drove to Hamburg. We did a pitstop in Schwerin too which you can read about in another article by clicking here. It was a win-win situation. Sarah and I get to talk all day while the boys get their geek on.
Planning your visit
Miniatur Wunderland is one popular spot in Hamburg. It is best that you buy or at least reserve your tickets online. Waiting can take up to hours as they get so many visitors.
To reserve, click here.
To buy your tickets, click here.
Adults usually pay EUR15 (USD18.05) and children up to 15 years old pay EUR7.50 (USD9.03). If your child is less than a metre tall, he/she gets to go in for free.
Here’s a tip: If you reserve or buy tickets like from 7 pm onwards, you can get 10-20% discounts on your tickets! They also offer group discounts which you can check here. Just make sure you have Google Chrome and allow your browser to translate it for you since it’s in German.
Arrive around 15 minutes before as there may be a line to get your reserved tickets.
Miniatur Wunderland: What to Expect
For starters, a lot of people and a whole lot of fun. I didn’t expect to enjoy myself as much as I did since I’m no plane or train geek.
Watch someone at work on the miniatures upon entering Miniatur Wunderland.
But I do love travelling and visiting Miniatur Wunderland lets you do a bit of miniature sightseeing in some popular areas of Europe, the US, and even a make-believe place called Knuffingen. That city of ‘cute’ or ‘cuddly’ may exist only in miniature but it has its own website.
One of the first things you’ll see after a preview of their artists at work, are miniature depictions of important events in Germany’s history.
Which is immediately followed by a miniature version (but it’s actually a massive display) of the Olympiastadion Berlin. Complete with lights and a sound system, it actually feels like you’re there singing “Atemlos durch die Nacht” with Helene Fischer. Ah, I love her!
What? You don’t like Schlager? How dare you?! Leave Germany at once! 😜 Just kidding. You’re obviously lying so I’d let that slide.
Travelling in Miniature
Mountains, rivers with actual water, and trains that are actually moving. I thought Sarah and I would just sit somewhere and chat while our boys ran amok in this place. It turns out we would be having so much fun too. I was just snapping photos and going ‘oooh’ and ‘aahh’ all through our visit.
Oh, and another thing – it gets dark every 15 minutes. So, you get to see the miniatures light up. Miniature Vegas was such an electric dream. With all its blinking lights, it can even look trippy if you stare at it long enough. If you’re epileptic, I wouldn’t advise looking at it for too long though.
Another thing you should do while visiting is to check out the tiny people. Some of them are doing weird/funny things. Like this:
If you have kids with you, you may wish to direct their attention somewhere else.
Look at how happy our boys the men in our life are!
One of my favourites were the Scandinavian areas. The snowy areas show the Northern Lights when it gets dark. The water in the photo below is real and that big ship moves through it seamlessly.
We found Santa but he was being naughty!
If you’d like to see the Northern Lights without the long journey, wait for it to get dark in the snowy areas of Scandinavia.
Keeping the trains running on schedule, these guys are. 😉
Sarah and Sergio looking over Switzerland
Knuffingen Airport
While the enormous Switzerland display was truly something, it was the airport that really took my breath away.
No, it wasn’t because Air Berlin is still flying through Knuffingen. It was because of this:
Yes, the Millennium Falcon was there for a visit. We saw it getting serviced. That alone was enough to make my Star Wars loving heart go into overdrive. But what really got to me was that it was scheduled to fly.
Yes, there’s a runway where planes were taking off and landing. And they’re actually strict in following that flight information display board up there. I made my way through the crowd and cemented myself on a spot facing the runway just so I can film this:
The #MillenniumFalcon spotted at Miniatur Wunderland. 😉 I just love how it’s on the Flight Information Display with ‘Death Star’ as its destination. 😂 . . #AlmostDiplomatic #Hamburg #Twitter #StarWars

On to the rest
It won’t be a showcase of Europe’s best without the Neuschwanstein Castle and Oktoberfest.
But seeing Southern Italy in miniature made me even more excited to go! The Amalfi Coast is really part of my bucket list!
Rome too, of course.
I just love how the people behind this place add some humour every chance they get.
And for the train geeks like my husband, try to get a meal in their restaurant. They’ve got train seats and tables.
I was rather reluctant to go to Miniatur Wunderland when Alvin first broached the idea. But he was right – I ended up enjoying it too. So did Sarah. Do alot at least three hours here though. There is so much to see and if it’s a little crowded, you may have to wait for a better view.
Miniatur Wunderland
Kehrwieder 2-4/Block D, 20457 Hamburg Website: www.miniatur-wunderland.de/
Parking: Just outside the building. Free and Paid options available.
Hours:
Friday 8AM–12AM Saturday 8AM–11PM Sunday 8:30AM–8PM Monday 9AM–6PM Tuesday 9AM–9PM Wednesday 9AM–6PM Thursday 9AM–6PM
Sharing is caring. Do pin this post if you found it fun! Or at least helpful. 😉
More later.
Love,
Carol

Working with an international group allowed me to broaden my scope to new ideas and values, while challenging my own worldviews.
I arrived to Zurich, Switzerland on September 1, 2017, which also happened to be the first day of my PhD career. Thanks to the support of the ThinkSwiss Research Scholarship, I had the privilege to study at Professor Ruch’s Personality and Assessment Lab located at the University of Zurich. I met the most dedicated professors, post-doctoral fellows, and fellow students while participating in lab meetings, classes, and social gatherings of the lab. The lab was a friendly and welcoming environment and I found myself becoming more and more engaged with the research everyday.
My project involved the development and psychometric validation of the short-form English version of the State Trait Cheerfulness Inventory, which was originally created by my host professor. It was my first experience collecting longitudinal data from a diverse sample. This project allowed me to develop skills in divergent thinking and conceptualizing theory and data outside of the North American context. Moreover, working with an international group allowed me to broaden my scope to new ideas and values, while challenging my own worldviews. I was fortunate to work with a lab consisting of Swiss, German, Austrian, and Spanish researchers with a diversity of knowledge and experience. Without a doubt, this research opportunity has fostered my learning experience in ways I did not know were possible.
On weekends, there are no shortage of trains that can take you to a nearby Swiss city or a bordering country only a few hours away. I visited the beautiful Bern, St. Gallen, and Lucerne while in Switzerland. Travelling North of Zurich, I experienced Oktoberfest in Stuttgart, and attended a conference a short plane ride away in Berlin. Travelling south of Zurich, I experienced the unrivalled beauty in Florence, the town of lovers Romeo and Juliet in Verona, and the renowned shopping city of Milan (with a cute cat café). I learned that Zurich is a very international city, and I soon made new friends from all over the world with different stories to share.
I am very grateful to my supervisors Dr. Jenny Hofmann and Professor Willibald Ruch for giving me the opportunity to study in the lab. The Personality and Assessment Lab at the University of Zurich is a first-class organization with highly knowledgeable and skilled researchers from all over the world, who are extremely supportive and encouraging. It is certainly an experience I will never forget. Thank you to the ThinkSwiss Scholarship!

9th October 2017
Steve's alarm went off at 0530. He had to be outside by 0610 to get the newbies to work. He was quiet enough but when we opens the front door, the sun shines right in and wakes me up. Then, I have to go for a wee and it's really irritating having to walk half a minute outside to go. When I get back into bed, I'm awake! He left and I eventually fell back to sleep. I was better off not going back to sleep though, I feel awful when my alarm went off at 0930. I snoozed it until 1000. I planned a day in the sun with Lexi so I needed to get up. I hated myself for it, for about 15 minutes. I got dressed into my cossie and got a bag. I walked down to the pool and we laid there chatting for a bit. We started to plan this weekend. We booked it off work so that we could go away for a couple of days. Friday we're leaving Cardwell and driving to Palm Cove which is up north towards Cairns. Palm Cove is meant to be stunning. We're going to camp for a night there (next to the beach front) and then drive to Port Douglas the next morning. Port Douglas has a beer festival on called Oktoberfest so I think we'll stay there drinking for the day and either camp or get a hostel - whatever’s cheapest. Then on the Sunday we're driving up to Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation. We'll be leaving around 6pm but it'll take us 5-6 hours to drive home which is the only bad thing about it. Rod and Leonie said we could take a van which is great but at a price of $260. There's 7-9 of us going so it's going to be cheap. They also said they'd pay our petrol for us which is amazing. They're so good to us. I really wanted to camp the whole time but there aren't any free rest sites or grounds anywhere near to where we're going. So the only place we can stay are van parks that charge $40 for the night. There's no point us hiring camping gear to pay even more money to camp... We may as well stay in a hostel. So, we're working things out as we go. We're waiting for official numbers before we start ringing. Steve and I will save a great deal by doing it this way. It's part of our East Coast trip so we would've had to do it with an organised tour that charges $150 each or whatever it would be. Plus, this way is much more fun. I'm excited. I'm so excited for Steve's birthday too, but, it's still a secret. He hasn't got a clue. This week will be a good'en, from Thursday on wards that is.
Lexi and I were in and out of the pool, laying in the sun. Leonie gave us a inflatable croc for the pool which was amazing. What a luxury. Who'd have thought a lilo would be an unreal luxury? It was only small so it was hard to balance on. Lexi is diddy so she managed an hour of laying on it sunbathing.    I had nearly 2 litres of water and an apple. I weighed myself and I've lost almost 5kg since I've been here. Granted, not in the way that's the healthiest but I feel better. I'm still trying to ignore it and it makes me excited to go home and go back to Slimming World. I wrote my brothers birthday card and mums birthday card to send off. Honestly, I hate October. It's the most expensive month for me. Everyone is born in October - my Dad, Emma, Steve, Steve's Mum, my Brother and my Mum (that's in order too). It's a nightmare at home, honestly. I went back to the room around 1430 to start getting ready for work. I had my shower and sorted myself out. I left around 1545. Apparently, it was fairly obvious I had caught the sun a lot today. I'll stay out of it tomorrow. Being tanned makes me feel so much better. When you're here, the majority of people are fairly tanned so you still feel pale. I have no idea whether I'm actually tanned or not. I could be very dark to the people of Melbourne but I wouldn't know. As long as we don't stick out like sore thumbs on the East Coast, I'll be fine. Work was dead as. The busses weren't busy and hardly any customers came in. I had 4 staff in for coffee side and I was the most experienced in... Shocking right? I've only been there a few weeks. I had to send Maggie home because she'd been in the longest. She only had 30 minutes left of her shift but there was literally nothing to do. Sara was on kitchen side but they weren't busy so they asked her to do dishes. Normally, this would be good but it's taken my job away from me. I asked Franzi if she wanted to go and she didn't. She wanted the money. We all want the money, but with them both staying, I would get hardly any. Franzi started at 1300 so technically, she should've gone home but who am I to tell someone to go home? If Lexi was on late, she’d have left so that I could get more money. I start at 1600 tomorrow so hopefully it’s not that bad. Steve, Lexi, Louisa and Hayden came in to buy some treats. They were going to watch the sunset on the jetty. They told me to come but obviously, I couldn't. Nobody else knew how to do the finish and I needed the money. It was nice to see Steve - he was putting petrol in the van too. By 1930, everything was done... The girls left at 2000 and I had nothing to do. Great. I was so angry that I wasn't going to get hardly any money. By 2130, I went home. I was happy to be finished of course, and I would be able to go to sleep at a reasonable time. I'd also see Steve for a moment as I hadn't seen him all day. He finished watermelons at 1630 and I started at 1600.   Steve was starving as he didn't make any food. For some strange reason, whenever I'm not there, he doesn't make himself dinner. It's a big thing in his life called Lazy-iotis. I made him a cheese and spinach wrap with aoili. He made some for his lunch tomorrow too. Leonie said that watermelons need him on Wednesday too which is great. He wasn't happy about it. His knees and back are really hurting him from bending down all day long. I do feel sorry for him, it's awful. We went to bed about 2230. I didn't fall asleep until 0000.

September 13th, 2017
In preparation for my trip this upcoming weekend, I am furiously trying to accomplish my homework due not only for this week but more importantly next week after I return home from a 13 hour bus ride to the beautiful and history filed city of Prague and also Oktoberfest held in Germany. I am excited to continue to further visit these all of the many gorgeous and personally untouched places Europe has to offer. I hear that Germans are fairly nice and inviting people so I am excited to to also travel to a now hopefully welcoming and tourist/student friendly country. It is great comfort that my direct roommate is also coming along because I haven’t mastered this self navigation thing so far; except for in Rome. Culturally speaking, things are pretty pleasant here (in Rome) though.
My interactions are predominantly positive and being surrounded by people who speak multiple languages (often times fluent English is not at the top of the list) has greatly inspired me to fully fire up my Italian phrase and memorization skills. Wish me luck!

GOALS: We are so incredibly proud of Bella. She’s worked so hard to earn the right to wear her first solo dress. Here she is getting the final fitting before her next feis — Suzanne Andrews is an awesome creative seamstress and dance mom, too! We found it months ago at a feis in San Antonio during Oktoberfest. It took another 4 Feisanna and another Texas feis to get that second 1st place in the Novice level so she could finally wear it. Yes, she’ll outgrow it, but she’ll always have the memories of what it took for her to get to this stage in her chosen dance sport. —Seemingly endless moments waiting for scores to find out she didn’t place or didn’t place high enough. —Non-dance related injuries that sidelined her from competing and from dancing for weeks. —she’s managed to keep her schoolwork a priority this far —straight As! What’s even more impressive is that she’s only been competing since September 2017 —less than 3 years— & she’s already in prize winner. She’s sacrificed evenings and weekends, parties and time with friends, for dance lessons, performances & competitions. We don’t demand it of her...at her young age, she already realizes the importance of commitment and teamwork. We are so very blessed to be her parents and even more so, to be part of the @omirishdance family. #tinydancer #feislife #irishdancedress #irishdancer #irishdancing @risingstardesigns http://bit.ly/2El8i0k

Leading up to Oktoberfest, Chuckanut Brewery and Kitchen releases Fest Bier
Press Release
It’s getting to be Oktoberfest time and Chuckanut Brewery is celebrating. We’ve been working on our recipe all year and now we are releasing our golden Fest Bier all over Puget Sound. Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen (North Nut), Bellingham, and Chuckanut Brewery’s South Nut Tap Room at the Port of Skagit Airport will be tapping Fest Bier 2017 on September 1, Labor Day Weekend (both sites will be open all weekend long). Chuckanut Fest is a golden lager, brewed with a large portion of Vienna malts for a smooth and rich beer. The aroma and flavor are malty and lightly sweet and just enough noble hops to balance this special lager. Fest is a medium bodied beer that finishes crisp and smooth with an ABV of 5.5%.
Chuckanut Fest is a great food beer, malt forward and food friendly. It’s a wonderful match to typical Oktoberfest foods like sausages, grilled fish, roasted chicken, and roast pork. Oktoberfest is a celebration of the fall and there are several businesses that will be celebrating with Chuckanut Fest Bier 2017 including Teku Tavern (September 29), Frolic (September 16), Altstadt (September 16) and others. Check your favorite pub to see if they will be celebrating, or visit one of the Chuckanut sites before November to try this delicious, thoroughly enjoyable drinking beer, prost!
Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen (North Nut), located at 601 West Holly St in Bellingham, was awarded the National Small Brewpub of the Year 2009 and Small Brewing Company 2011 at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, CO. The full service “Kitchen” serves lunch, happy hour, and dinner with an eclectic fresh local menu for all ages. South Nut (Chuckanut Brewery & Tap Room at 11937 Higgins Airport Way, Burlington) at the Port of Skagit Airport welcomes all ages and is open Mon-Fri 3-9 pm and Fri & Sat 12-9 pm.
