Are Cuckoolander individuals common? Merlin says that they have gone through equivalent journeys before. Is there always a Cuckoolander? Is it every other time? How often is it multiple like MC and Percy?

You mean the Second Lesser Circle back in 2020? I suppose you could say that the Fake Yvain was acting a bit like that, but nowhere near the same level as Percy or potentially the Cloudcuckoolander MC.

Merlin is mostly used to those kinds of shenanigans from their stint at Camelot. There were certainly... characters... back then. Percival would be the most well known, but even some of the more level headed knights could start running through the woods starkers because their love rejected them. *stares at Lancelot, Tristan, and Yvain*

Yvaine (Fem Demo) was the biological kid of Demo’s original adoptive parents, making them adoptive siblings!

They only knew each other when they were both very young, falling out of contact when Demo’s biological parents finally came back into the picture and took Demo back in, leaving Yvaine to grow up at the Crypt Grammar School for Orphans by herself. They got along pretty well when they were younger! Though the relationship got a bit rocky on account of the whole . Incident

But thats ok! Im sure several decades to sit with the consequences of the event and no real outlet to grieve properly means that finally meeting again as adults could not possibly be strange or uncomfortable! And im sure theyre both absolutely going to address the massive elephant in the room!

I wanna start reading Arthurian…..where should I begin

I'd say one way would be to pick characters or events you'd like to read about the most and start with the texts focusing on them. @fuckyeaharthuriana has a lot of lists of different works, including those sorted by character (links in the blog description). Then, if you decide you enjoy Arthuriana in general, you can move to other texts. Another way would be to start with something well-known and short. I believe Sir Gawain and the Green Knight fits the bill well. The translation linked is more like an example, because there's a lot of them, and I frankly don't know which to suggest best; the one I read is by Bernard O’Donoghue, but I can't find it online. I've also heard very good things about Tolkien's translation - understandable, because duh, Tolkien - but haven't read it (yet). The works of Chrétien de Troyes are also very good and readable and imo very well represent what a medieval romance is. My favourite is Yvain: Knight of the Lion, and I haven't read his Perceval yet, but I liked all the other of his romances too. (Ok, maybe not Erec and Enide, but that's because I found the main character very annoying)

I've compiled a small list of Arthurian texts I recommend before when answering a similar ask, and I still stand by it, except, taking into account what I've read since then, I'd also add La Tavola Ritonda - an Italian Arthurian romance mostly focused on Tristan and Isolde, weird and violent but also very enjoyable, in my opinion, Parzival (vol. 1, vol. 2) by Wolfram Von Eschenbach - a German romance and my favourite version of the Grail story so far, and Lancelot-Grail aka the Vulgate Cycle + the Post-Vulgate. I'm not sure starting with the latter is a good idea, though, because it's five huge volumes, very readable (except for The History of the Holy Grail. You can skip that, if you ask me) and with a great impact on the later Arthurian texts, including Le Morte d'Arthur, but HUGE, it took me half a year, lol. (Le Morte is also long and often drier in style, but still not THAT long). But I simply had to mention it because it's such a foundational work. A part of the Vulgate Cycle has been adapted by Patricia Terry and Samuel N. Rosenberg as Lancelot and the Lord of the Distant Isles or, The Book of Galehaut Retold. It's short and beautiful, and you don't need to be familiar with the rest of the Vulgate to read it.

Oh, and if you're interested in more modern retellings, Idylls of the Queen by Phyllis Ann Karr is an episode from Le Morte d'Arthur retold as a murder mystery solved by Kay and Mordred, and it's amazing. Also The Squire's Tales series by Gerald Morris is a lot of fun, kind of for a younger reader but very well-written and funny, even though some of his choices regarding certain characters drive me up the wall a little bit.

Arthur sat at the round table in thought as his knights chatted around him Hmmm…let’s see…no can’t do that

“Arthur?”

“ARTHUR!” Kay slams his fist on the table

Arthur jumps “Huh? Oh my apologies Kay”

“It’s fine but what’s got you so lost in thought?”

Gawain laughs “Isn’t it obvious?” He throws a arm around Arthur “Look at that empty chair he misses his queen”

Arthur chuckles as he removes Gawain’s arm “Well yes I do miss my queen while she’s away visiting her father but that’s not all I’m thinking about”

“Oh I know St Valentine’s day right?”

Arthur chuckles “Yes that’s right”

Gawain stands “Ok fellow knights we have a very important mission to wow the queen with the most amazing St Valentine’s day surprise! Any ideas?”

The table goes silent until Yvain speaks up “I think I’ve got an idea”

Elena sat at her vanity brushing her hair she was so excited to return back to Camelot tomorrow. A knock came at her door “Come in”

A servant enters in “Your Majesty this letter came for you” “Oh thank you very much” As the servant leaves she quickly opens the letter

My love,

I’m so excited for your return tomorrow I can’t wait till your back in my arms again. In honor of your return I’ve arranged the St Valentine’s day ball just for you. I know you’ll enjoy it as much as I will. I love you my queen

Elena grins as she reads the note over and over again then giggles He loves to spoil me I can’t to see him

The next day she prepares her horse for the journey. She gives her father goodbyes and heads off to Camelot. She reaches Camelot by nightfall and eagerly gets off her horse I can’t wait to see Arthur

A servant intercepts her as she enters the castle “Your majesty your not ready for the ball”

“What do you mean?”

“The king has left you a dress come it’s in your room” She guides her to the room and pulls out a dress from the wardrobe.

“Wow it’s beautiful I love it”

The servant helps her change then she helps her pin up her hair “Oh wow this is amazing”

“I’m glad you love it your majesty now it’s time for you to head to the ball”

Elena quickly heads down the hall and the guards open the door to the ballroom. She looks around and finds it empty No one’s here am I early?

She feels a pair of arms around her “I see you got the dress”

She giggles and turns around “Yes and I love it”

Arthur smiles “I knew you would look beautiful in it”

“I thought there was ball where is everyone?”

Arthur smirks “This is our own private ball”

“You did that for me?”

“Yes my beautiful wife” He kisses her hand “Now” He nods towards the musicians who play a slow romantic tune then bows “May I have this dance?”

“Yes you may” Arthur guides her into a slow dance Elena smiles “Is there more to this ball I should look forward to?”

“Oh this is just the beginning my love” He dances her over to a table filled with gifts

“Arthur these are all for me?”

“I don’t see any other beautiful woman”

“You didn’t have to”

Arthur places a finger on her lips “I wanted to cause there’s no one more deserving of these”

“Awww Arthur” She kisses him deeply “I love you”

“I love you too Elena” He grabs a gift off the table “I want you to open this one first”

Elena grins as she opens the gift she smiles when she sees the tiara inside “Arthur this is beautiful”

“I had this personally made for you”

Elena looks closer “These are the jewels from my kingdom”

Arthur smiles “Your father had them delivered so I could add them just wanted to make sure you had a piece of your home and Camelot too”

Elena wipes her tears “Arthur this is so thoughtful”

“I’m glad you love it” He puts it on her head “It looks amazing on you

“You’re amazing Arthur now I have a gift for you”

“You’re the greatest gift”

Elena giggles “But you’ll enjoy this one” She grabs her hand and places it on her stomach

Arthur’s eyes go wide “You’re”

“With child yes”

Arthur picks her up and spins her around “You’ve made me increasingly happy!”

Elena laughs “Arthur put me down!”

He sets her down gently “I love you so much”

“I love you too” He kisses her deeply

Ok so I feel like I just had to share this dream I just had. So in this dream I was one of Williams squad members. And this was after the elf attack. So my dream starts off With the wizard king telling us there's gonna be a ball for all the members and the captains and all of their family members are invited. As we know William was abused in his childhood so of course his stepmother was going to be there. She shows up and she starts talking down on William and Bullying him And bringing up his scar on his face. I didn't like that and stood up to her and screamed at her in her face and put her in her place. No one had ever stood up to his stepmom before And she left the party. After that William dragged me out of the party back to his room at the golden dawn base And things got a little spicy🥵😏 The dream was starting to get so good and then my cat just woke me up because she wanted food😑 I just thought I'd share with you and it's definitely been the best dream I've had in a while.

i think yvaine and tristan are in a 24/7 knights roleplay for their relationship. they both have been taking sword fighting classes for years (how they met) and tristan works as a blacksmith. yvaine is a writer and has a series of fantasy books that does ok and a series of fantasy romance novels that does very well. after yvaine and tristan join the larp group dom finds one of their books at the grocery store and recognizes their author photo and has a little holy shit moment but is excited because he think this might elevate the narrative of their larp

tristan is the one who made dom and cleo’s real swords that are not for larp because no real weapons in the larp. tristan also does the ren faire circut but mostly makes movie props and some private commissions

@keerysquinn tagged me to share my seven comfort films and tag seven other people to share theirs. As always, absolutely no pressure to!

1 - Moulin Rouge. Admittedly strange comfort film given the ending, but it's just perfect. The music, the casting. Everything

2 - How To Train Your Dragon. My black cat was called Toothless after this film. It's just unnecessarily gorgeous, the sequence where they're flying through the clouds? Stunning.

3 - Legally Blonde. This came out when I was a teenager (she's old) and it's the one I watch when I need a little motivation to do some work. One of the songs is on my work playlist. Suns up.... It's a little after twelve....

4 - Stardust. Again perfect story, great casting and Captain Shakespeare was the addition to the book plot I never knew I needed. Walked down the aisle to 'Tristan and Yvain' from the soundtrack

5 - Beauty and the Beast. The original animated version, which is my default position for all Disney films and will not change. I was a nerdy book kid, so it was nice to know I could still be a princess

6 - Rogue One. Ok hear me out, doesn't exactly scream comfort film. But it's one I keep coming back to. It's the best Star Wars film. Period.

7 - Twister. Love me a good (bad) disaster movie. This is a hard fought spot with Dante's Peak, and I flip between the two. As an aside @disasterarea-podcast has some FANTASTIC episodes where she commentates on these two movies. Highly worth a listen if you're a fan of either of them. Yes, Twister has fuck all plot, it's so clichéd and the graphics now look dated. But it spawned an obsession with meteorology for me so serious if I hadn't have ended up in my current (also science related) field, I would have gone off to do some combination of geog/geology/meteorology.
