Okay so done with the two seasons of Bakarina, and gotta say Keith and Walt grew on me because of how cute they are when they blush, and I kinda like the soft masc they portray.

I absolutely love Larna's relationship with Sora and Walt too, of her picking up these two "bad" boys that no one else wants under her wings, and them really respecting her as a mentor.

Idk why Sora reminds me of Makoto from Free a bit, even though Sora sports the smug face that Makoto doesn't. (Also I semi shipped Sora with Annie, bc Annie is another badass character, and she will only be devoted to Catarina.)

In terms of winning the harem, I'm on Sora's or Keith's side. I ship Fray with Nicol because of how unexpected their love would be since Fray wants to do research and choose her own path and no man will deter her. And Nicol needs someone to be open with, and he only has so far been open with Fray, and that kind of intimacy hasn't even happened with Catarina. Yeah, Catarina taught him love, but I think Gray taught him to seek within and follow his heart. I hope that if he falls for Fray, he can support her in carving her own path, and wait for marriage until it is allowed for Noble women to work at the department of Magic. (Now I wish someone made an analysis of the flowers in their episode.)

I do also support Alan/Catarina/Mary as poly bc I really like the alliance Alan and Mary have over winning her over. And the fact that Alan is willing to help Mary end up with Catarina over himself ending up with her.

But honestly, I need a spinoff of Larna and her students; we have moved past romance; we need only fall in love with magical research.

Sorry folks, but today is opinion day.  Starting off with something I’m really behind on now: my wife and I finished My Next Life As a Villainess, season 2!

It’s good!  I don’t think as good as season 1, though.

In large part, I blame the decisions made around trying to bolster some of the love interest choices and not as much others, and doing so in ways that completely backfired.  Geordo and Keith were already by bottom two picks; Geordo because I just don’t like the guy, and Keith because brother.  But apparently their decision to try and increase their standing was pushing well past what’s normal into way too aggressive territory in their approach.  Seriously, what’s with this season having male characters pushing her down on the bed?  It’s just uncomfortable.

Nicol’s the only male option that went up, but hilariously by having an alternate option that I really like.  Frey is cool, I like her a lot.  I kinda wish they did more with her and hope she’s around more often in the next season.  Alan, unfortunately, barely featured.  I do kinda like him, but they did nothing with him.  The female cast didn’t get much time either, which I think is a function of season 1 being really clear that the female options were stronger than the male.  So okay, try to level the playing field, and you messed up two of the four.  Good work.

There were a metric ton of new character additions, but for a 12-episode anime, they didn’t get enough time to shine.  Mostly.  Like, some of the earlier two are the second-born son in Geordo’s family and his fiancee, but I legit cannot remember their names because they were important for like two episodes and showed up for a single line in the last episode.  Apparently they are Ian and Selena.  Jeffrey got a bit more, and I do like his antics.  And his fiancee, Suzanna, gets a ton of time as Larna.  She’s great.  Similar thing to Jeffrey, just very over the top most of the time, and I am here for it.  There’s Sora, who also got sorted into the “too aggressive in your approach” bin, but kinda backs off overall and I do appreciate that.  It is nice to not have every new character be into Catarina.

I mentioned Frey, and she’s great.  She wants to be a career woman with the department of magic, but if she gets married like she’s expected to, she can’t remain there, so she’s up front about not wanting to get married or do anything of that.  She and Nicol had a cute dynamic.  Then there’s her friend Ginger. Ginger’s another who’s into Catarina, but somehow already ranks above most of the guys, solely by being super shy about her feelings, but relatively harsh overall.  I have a type, okay?

And finally...my favorite new character.  Sarah.  She’s the creepy dark magic user at the end there.  “What about Keith’s extended family?”  Yeah no one cares, BUT SARAH THOUGH.  I love this one.  It sounds like they’re setting her up for a similar sort of tragic backstory, but she seems fully fine doing what she’s doing.  And all of this was entirely to make herself a familiar, that Catarina accidentally stole and turned into a dark magic pupper that lives in her shadow.  And Sarah is at most mildly inconvenienced by this.  God I want more of Sarah around next season.

I do think that the story bits are pretty good.  The Keith story was pretty solid overall, and I actually did like the setup and payoff for Sora, and Catarina’s kidnapping.  But this is a show more about character moments than plot, and so my favorite is definitely the dollhouse episode.  Keith, that fantasy is pretty trans, not gonna lie.  Mary’s is too, though maybe not as blatantly so?  Like, in Mary’s fantasy, the big fixation is on being a higher status than Geordo to take Catarina from him, and that apparently involves being male?  Which you could argue is a matter of societal structure where she’d need to be male to be higher status, but she seems pretty okay with that adjustment which is at the least decisively Not Cis.  And Maria’s fantasy is hilarious, and honestly the best characterization she’s gotten.  Because she would!  She’s a farm girl, of course her fantasy is being ripped as hell and able to do all this manual labor stuff easily!  That was perfect.

So yeah, overall my rankings of the possible Catarina pairings haven’t changed.  Mary is still the top, followed closely by Sophia.  Nicol’s “If it had to be a guy,” while I think Ginger’s taken over above even Maria.  Maria’s just kinda downplayed to me, I feel like she needs a bit more, and favoritism dictates Ginger is above her.  After those two is Alan, who’s fine but not a particularly strong consideration.  Sora outranks Geordo and Keith by a sort of default, but frankly I don’t like him as a pairing either, I just think he’s better than “is brother” and “but Catarina is mine by default so I can do whatever.”

were it not for the fact that Raj remembers the guy and he is in the background in a few of the pictures (of course he had a photographer, duh) Alec would start questioning his sanity. as it is, he's just :( that he can't find him

he tries to get particular attention to the pics where Magnus is on the background, being all like "tag your friends!!" and shit, which isnt really that weird cuz you know, marketing, but hes really really invested in finding the cute guy udndidndkdn same with the lost & found posts, but of course nothing there belongs to Magnus because even if Magnus had lost something he could just summon it into his home

but none of that works because theres no way twi Magnus isnt a social media hermit, i mean he did a TV fucking commercial for his tarot business. like Magnus please. so of course no one's tagging him in anything cuz they're not in the same circles and they look for each other in all the wrong places

and alec's like "iz-" and she's like "relax, big bro, if he doesn't want it he just wont come forward. it's fine" and Alec is like "i guess" and proceeds to pester her so much asking if there's been any update she just sets her email to send him a copy of her twitter notifs

anyway it eventually reaches. realistically catarina but i like to think its ragnor just because of the sheer ridiculousness of that. hey maybe twi ragnor is super techy. or maybe he isnt but he is kinda on the lookout for things related to his friends in social media and such, like the protective bastard that he is

and ragnor thinks it's hilarious and is all like "hey Magnus did you know that theres a whole campaign on twitter to find you" and Magnus is like "what" and hes like "yeah I'm pretty sure this is you theyre taking about, didn't you go to that institute party to help some shadowhunter with something or whatever" "you mean the reawakening of the ley lines" "yeah yeah whatever. more importantly, some guy's got a crush on you" and he shows Magnus the tweets exclusively to tease him and do his usual "allos are gross" routine, but Magnus is like. oh. he's. he wanted to find me? and ragnor is like incredible Magnus is in fact a gross allo.

anyway Ragnor helps Magnus set up a Twitter exclusively so he can bicker about what an old man Magnus is and make fun of him throughout the whole process ("you're blushing" "no I'm not" "you're definitely blushing" "because you said i was! I wasn't before" "oh it's so easy to rile you up") and Magnus sends izzy a PM and Alec almost falls on his ass when he sees it

Clace Week day 6 - Pregnancy/Birth

Welcome to our Crazy Family!

Pregnancy #1

When Clary found out she was pregnant she started crying because her and Jace had been trying to start their family and the best part is they were getting married in a month so they had two big things coming, she felt so overwhelmed with happiness and after so many bad things good ones started happening, she had to calm herself down so she could even speak and then she went to find Jace.

She found him in the music room playing the piano, Jace she said and he looked up, Clary are you okay? You look like you've been crying? He said, I am great, but you need to come here now!!! She said excitedly and he gave her a weird look but followed her to their bedroom and he said what do you have planned Clare in a teasing Voice, bet you have no idea what it is Jace.

She had taken a pregnancy test that morning and it came back positive, She led him into the bathroom in their room and showed and he looked happy, unbelieving and excited, Is this for real Clare?, Yes Yes Yes she said and he started tearing up and so did she again and he took her in his arms, OH WAIT I SHOULD BE CAREFUL! right?, Jace it's fine you can hug me she said through a teary smile, oh okay said Jace and took her back into his arms and said this is really happening by the angel we're gonna have a baby!, Yes we are said Clary, she got on her tip toes and kissed her soon to be husband.

After being in labor for almost 24 hours with their twins here they were beautiful, adorable , amazing little girls who they already loved so much and now even more her and Jace both cried when they saw them for the first time Clary didn't care about the pain because she had her baby girls, it had been hard but worth it, Jace was there right beside her the whole time supporting her and encouraging her, and and kissed her head right before Charlotte was born, Last push babe he said, giving birth to twins wasn't easy, Ella was born first and then came Charlie 7 minutes later, she couldn't Express how much she loves these girls already her and Jace were sitting on a bed in the infirmary, Catarina had delivered their baby girls and healed Clary afterwards, and now her and Jace were exhausted her more so, she had one of them in her arms and Jace had the other, Charlotte Maryse Herondale and Ella Adele Herondale welcome little ones mama and papa love you very much.

( so this next part is connected to my fic I am writing so yeah things might be a little off, and a little sad for reasons I will forewarn you)

Pregnancy #2/3 technically

It wasn't the second time Clary had found out she was pregnant actually the third, she miscarried her second pregnancy due to events in the last war but more then that she lost her little girl, her and Jace had decided to start trying again, some thought it was to soon but Charlie was heartbroken and not Charlie she has a smile that's contagious and makes everyone want to smile and she's like sunshine and it hurts Clary every time she sees her like that, she lost her twin and doesn't know how to be without her, she wakes up in the middle of the night every night crying and screaming for Ella and Her and Jace have to go in and calm her and say that Ella isn't here anymore but at peace, hell Clary didn't even know if she was, all she wanted was her little girl back but the Angel apparently wants her and Jace and their family to suffer, after Ella died she screamed at the sky a lot, swearing and yelling at the Angel asking why her little girl? Why her? But why her unborn child as well?. And now she was sitting in their bathroom with a pregnancy test in her hands wondering if she would actually be pregnant, she looked at it and it was positive and she broke down crying omg she said I really am, for some it takes a while after having a miscarriage and getting pregnant again they are giving it time but for her and Jace and others trying again a couple months later was healing and after a month she got pregnant again, some thought it was wrong but they know Ella would want them to keep going and make charlie happy.

Clary waited for Jace to get home and after she put Charlie to bed to tell him and she had him sit on the bed, he gave her a look of worry, Clare he said what is thi- shush she said listen to me love, these last five months have been some of the hardest and have been hard and for some things like this might tear them apart but not us we stay together always and are always here and never give up on each other, we know that we need each other and we need to be a team and that the answer is love and I love you more and more every day, and I have some news that may be a turning point for us. What? He said, she took the pregnancy test out of her pocket and placed it in his hands with tears in her eyes, and he broke down and put his arms around her waist and cried on her shoulder and she his and they stayed like that for a while just here in this moment, and they went to bed and fell asleep in each other's arms while looking at each other and Jace was scared to let the moment go and said I won't let it happen again Clare I won't he said in his calm but stern and hard voice like Tessa Gray his Relative and an honestly amazing woman who if it weren't for Clary didn't know if she would be here today, I won't let anything happen to our kids again. Jace said, you can't control that love she said believe me I wish I- we could but we can't all we can do is watch over them and try our damn best to keep this from ever happening again.

Clary had and easier time with Stephen, she was in labor after her water broke for about 12 hours which was a lot less and extremely fast she thought but he was here and she was happy, her and Jace were crying tears of joy but also grief knowing how much Ella would have loved him and for all the pain and when Charlie came in she lit up and said Mommy! Is that him? Yes sunshine she said and Jace picked her up to show her and she cried, I have a baby brother she said Yay!, he's so cute mommy and papa and he has blonde hair like me and mommy's green eyes!, yes sunshine he does said Clary, he's like me mommy yay! Her sunshine was lighting up the room like she would always do and her and Jace were smile.

Pregnancy #3/4

Charlie and James got along really well and loved each so much and had a bond, Clary and Jace recently found out they were pregnant again and it was filled with tears and her surprising Jace this time, she played a guessing game with him and by the end he was in tears and hugging her and she was crying to. They told the kids after and they got super excited with Charlie saying another baby sibling! Yay! Yay! Do you think it will be a girl or boy? asked Charlie, I don't know Sunshine we'll have to wait and see. Said Clary, baby said Stephy they called him that as a nickname some said it's kinda girly but they didn't care what they thought nor did it matter if he likes it it's perfectly alright.

Hey Jace said to their kids do you two want to go to the music room? and let mommy rest, Yes! They said, will you and papa sing us a lullaby tonight again mommy? Asked Charlie, Yes of course Sunshine. Said Clary with her sweet motherly smile.

When they told the rest of their family and friends, they were all overjoyed that Clary and Jace were having another baby but also that they were healing, there would always be a deep scar but they knew they had to keep going. Izzy was so excited and said Yet again I am an Aunt!, she loved being an aunt and now a mom to 3 year old Sophie and 2 year old George and she said me and Simon actually have something to announce we are actually pregnant again to, Clary and Jace got so happy for them seriously!? Said Clary, Yes! Said Izzy seriously, congrats said Jace and he went and hugged Izzy and Simon and after Clary did. Our kids are gonna be best friends Fray said simon. They already are Si she said. True! Said Simon.

Clary went into labor earlier with Tessa, it worried her and Jace but Cararina assured them it would be fine and it was just a little early, Catarina has delivered everyone of their kids and it kinda became a thing and Clary honestly didn't want anyone else to deliver her babies, and Catarina loved it not that she would say, And she's here said Catarina after Clary pushed one last time and their baby girl was here and Clary was resting and her and Jace were admiring their little baby she was their smallest yet even the twins weren't this small but Catarina said she'll be fine, Tessa Jocelyn Herondale, Jace said you are beautiful little one and we will love forever. And Clary looked at him and kissed his cheek and smiled.

After that Izzy brought the kids in and they started jumping up and down saying she's here! She's here!, shush said Jace softly she's sleeping, oh said Charlie can we see here?, come here said Jace and picked them up to show them Izzy was looking at them softly, you're next Iz said Clary, I know I can't wait I want her to be here said Izzy. She has Jace's hair and eyes said Izzy.

Pregnancy #5

When Tessa was about 2 Clary found out she was pregnant again, she was waiting nervously and impatiently for several minutes and it showed two very visible lines and she knew she was and she was excited she won't lie, everyone probably thinks they have had enough children but Her and Jace didn't feel done or complete as a family yet. And this time she would have Jace found out in a great way, she was going to make him go on a scavenger hunt to find out.

When Jace came into his and Clary's bedroom she said good you're here I have something for you, what is it? Said Jace, there's a note on the table, he found and opened it it said ( go to the place where we had one of our first important moments in the institute) I know what your talking about said Jace what! Said Clary how? Well we had one of the first important moments in the green house when we first kissed and it was like nothing I had ever experienced before and it lit something In me that would change me. She smiled at that and he started heading towards, you coming Clare he said, yeah! She said.

When they go to the green house he found another note it said (go to the place where something happened that would have us bond forever) the roof he said, geez she said maybe you know me better then I thought said Clary, I do know you pretty well in all ways especially physically he said Jace! Yelled Clary, what no ones around, speaking of which where are the kids? As they were heading to the roof. They're with Alec and Magnus, Izzy and Simon are there as well to, and with their cousins and playing together like they always do. Okay why are we here doing this then? It's a surprise that's why said Clary, Alright better get back to it then said Jace, he got to the roof and found the other note, it said ( now your final stop, yes scavenger hunts are supposed to be long but I would get to impatient if I made it long. Go to the place where you enjoy to do something you love and the kids love as well) hmm that's a hard one but I have an idea said Jace I think I'll go to the music room first. Okay said Clary with a playful smile, I think that's the right choice seeing that smile on your face says so.

When he got to the music room and found the last note that said ( me and you have been through a lot together and our journey keeps going and I can't wait to keep going on it together with our kids and I hope it's okay to add more ) Are you pregnant? Asked Jace, yes said Clary and he walked over to her and hugged her again geez people are gonna comment he said, yeah well let them I don't care said Clary, me neither, we are growing out family and I am the happiest I could be. Clare I love you and I can't thank you enough for all you have done for me and still do every day. Said Jace, I love you to and you do and have done the same for me and she kissed his cheek. Now she said I think we should go to magnus and Alec's to get the kids, Yes I think we should said Jace.

Clary had a long labor again with twins but ot went perfectly fine and by the end she had her beautiful baby boy and girl, as with the other kids Catarina had delivered them, so how many more should I expect asked Catarina with a playful smile, Depends said Jace are you challenging us?, not exactly but you could make it to the shadowhunters with the most kids although I would laugh at them because you'd be once again changing things she said, either way you're children are beautiful and you two are amazing parents even I have to say that, they had come to know Catarina over the years and she really is an amazing woman thought Clary, thanks! Catarina for delivering all of them and if we do have more we would like you to be the one to do it said Jace and Clary nodded, I would like that said Catarina.

Charlie, Stephy and Tessa came into the room with Alec who insisted he should get to do it once and they ran to her and Jace and jumped into his arms and Alec walked over and helped by lifting Charlie up saying heron number 5 and 6 are here there's more of you now and soon you will be an army heron number 1 he Said to Charlie, really? said Charlie, yes my little Heron number 1 said Alec. Did you decide in names? asked Alec I know you two wanted it to be perfect and hadn't decided yet, yes! Actually we did said Clary, I would like you to meet Will Alexander Herondale and Jamie Cecily Herondale said Jace, Alexander? said Alec, yes after you said Clary and Alec was fighting back tears, thank you he said that means a lot said Alec and he said I love you both but damn you for making me so emotional, Clary and Jace laughed, and they and their kids admired the little new additions to their family. Her and Jace were very much in love and are happy. It's not all been easy but they have each and these little Joy's in their lives and the rest of their family and friends and they will be okay thought Clary. And she looked at her newborns with Black hair, one with her green eyes and the other a orange gold.

Magnus as a prince is so underrated. Like he’s a prince of hell yeah but ppl who use that troupe generally write dark!magnus content that makes me want the death. BUT Magnus as a fairytale prince, Alec as a knight maybe, or a prince from another kingdom. Forbidden romance. The drama of politics. Catarina is Magnus’s advisor because of course she is, and Dot is like an oracle for the kingdom. Ragnor is the king, he’s not Magnus’s father but he took him in when Magnus was young and since Ragnor has no children he’s next in line for the throne. Asmodeus is dead in this au because I said so. Ragnor..........doesnt really have the personality of a king, he’s a little reclusive and a lot of the kingdom speculates that he’s gone crazy. Magnus, on the other hand, is BELOVED. He’s always got a little troupe of women (and men) sorta following him around. People ask Ragnor for Magnus’s hand in marriage like, every day. He spends a lot of time in the kingdom, traveling around and talking to people, helping. If we think of Alec as a prince from another kingdom....Robert and Maryse bring their children to Ragnor’s kingdom, trying to broker peace between the two of them, some kind of alliance. They want to marry off Izzy to Magnus, and Magnus and Izzy get along GREAT! But not romantically. But Izzy’s brother..............Magnus is........interested. Alec is also........interested. Maybe there’s some secret kisses, a little bit of a cat and mouse game. Alec’s next in line for the throne, so his parents don't want him to get married to Magnus, they want him home to rule their kingdom. Notably, Alec and Magnus don’t care. I won't even get to the other parts of this ask if i don't SHUT UP so basically they get married and rule together, Izzy rules the idris kingdom, everyone is happy and malec are in love. 

MERMAID MAGNUS!!! THIS IS BLESSED!!!! ALSO YES, NB MERMAIDS! TRANS MERMAIDS!! Fairytale societies in general with completely different concepts of gender to what humans have! I don’t have a huge plot idea for this one like I do for the prince au BUT some ideas! 

Mermaid Magnus and human Alec. 

Magnus being injured by a ship, or by hunters. He was probably trying to save someone, maybe a young mermaid (madzie???) that had been captured on the ship. He washes ashore, bleeding and passed out and Alec finds him

Idk who Alec is in this. Maybe he lives by the beach with his family, works as a sailor, or he’s a price for the like, little mermaid aesthetic. 

He sees Magnus, and he isn't sure what's going on, but he wants to help. He bandages up the wound. He notices that Magnus seems to get a little....lethargic being outside the water. He was moving a little before but now his breathing is slow, his heartbeat is slow, so he finds somewhere shallow, lays him so that the wound is outside.

okay maybe i do kinda have a plot

Magnus starts to wake up and at first he panics- he doesn’t recognize Alec, he panics, Alec tries to calm him down and Magnus is trying to fight back but eventually he calms down. 

His injury starts to heal itself, Magnus thanks Alec and leaves

The next time they meet, Alec is out in a storm. (LITTLE MERMAID AU) and he’s a dramatic bitch so he tries to go down with his ship. 

Magnus saves him from the wreckage, drags him up on an island near where he lives

as soon as Alec wakes up Magnus is all “we’ve got to stop meeting like this”

but before he leaves, Alec is all “how can i find you again”

so they pick a time

they meet around nightfall, every night, and they talk, exchange stories

Alec sits on a rock, and Magnus leans against it, body half in the water and half out. and they talk for hours, and Magnus thinks about how pretty Alec looks under the moonlight and Alec thinks about how the reflections of the stars in the water play across Magnus’s skin and make him look etheral. 

Magnus definitely doesn't become human forever. maybe there's some type of magic that lets him temporarily go out of water, or magic to let Alec come down and be part of his society

anyways they fall in love

OKAY FAIRIES. Meliorn is also in this au bc of course they are. I’m not quite imagining seelies though. I am ABSOLUTELY imagining wings bc Magnus with wings is the BEST content. His wings are a little transparent, they’re golden, and they shine when the light flows through them. 

They’re absolutely beautiful, and once he and Alec are together, Alec spends hours just staring at them, stroking his hand over every bit. They don’t feel real, they feel so light and soft. 

I actually have no plot for this mostly just hhghghghg magnus with wings pretty im sorry fjdsklfjdlksa.

This is so hilarious to me, okay, this prompting hand flick Alec does (which you can't see here because I can't gif, only screenshot ahahaha) man I love it. I mean we all knew this was fake, not least because it implies Magnus is wearing the same outfit two days in a row and obviously this would NEVER happen, but also because in no universe does Alec have smooth dance moves. It's a law of nature.

Tiny waist touch is spotted and highly appreciated.

That scene transition was brilliant and there is nothing else to say about it. I lost count of how many times I've rewatched it because it's awesome. The way Alec's voice sounds slighty off, the way Magnus gets heavier in his arms, the way everything spins out of focus, and Alec's last “Stay with me” sounds almost hard with urgency.

When I first saw this I was legit yelling at the screen why the hell Alec is just shaking him instead of, idk, doing CPR but I did him a grave injustice there because he actually does and I really appreciate that. (Though, if he learned first aid I wonder all the more about 3x12 (or was it 3x13, I lost count lol) where he just lets Sentry Guy die without even trying to save him.)

That being said, I'm really happy we got to see the immediate aftershocks of it because I was half afraid this episode would just start with Magnus in the infirmary bed. Still, I have a question. Who called Catarina? Izzy? Because why is she then so shocked when she learns Magnus is not breathing? When she presumably first entered the room to receive the instruction to call Catarina, did she not... wonder why Alec was cpr-ing him? Or did Magnus not immediately stop breathing after collapsing but just, faded slowly while Alec had already told Izzy to call Catarina? I kinda wanna know the mechanics here.

I mean, no surprise there if you keep killing them?? Ahahaha.

I absolutely loved this scene, in terms of acting it was perfect and it was painfully in character for Alec to blame himself for everything that's not going alright with someone he loves. The problem I have however (because come on, there's always a problem with me) is that they genuinely want to tell me that Alec didn't realize Magnus was faking it? Magnus loses his magic and he “doesn't think twice”? I mean, that's either really really insensitive or really really stupid. And Alec might be insensitive sometimes, but not like that and he surely isn't that stupid. So, uh, I don't really like that bit. Again, if he was secretly happy that Magnus's immortality is gone that's one more thing to feel intensely shitty about, I get that, but being secretly glad how things turned out and not realizing the other person is suffering from how things turned out are two entirely different things. And just, tf Alec. He can't possibly be that dense, can he, that he genuinely thought Magnus was okay with this. Even if he thought this was something Magnus could get used to in the long run, he didn't expect him to need some kind of settling-in period? Really??

.........yeah. This is so relatable and I love how he delivers this line. The desperation is clear, but he's also determined about it. Also, quick question, why didn't Alec get Catarina to be there when Magnus wakes up instead of Lorenzo? I'm not saying it would have changed the outcome but it might just have made Magnus feel less shitty about being exposed to his nemesis in this weak state. Then again I get it, Alec is running on panic and instinct, so consideration is the last thing on his mind.

This scene was amazing. Or, lol, this part of the scene. Magnus's performance is stellar and FYI the next thing he says, the “Look at me! Can you honestly say you like this?” was improvised and that's just ugh so good. Coincidentally this is also where my issues with this scene begin. They're not about how the characters act, I found that part very very fitting; it's meta.

The issue Magnus is having isn't about some fear that Alec won't love him anymore now that he doesn't have his magic anymore. Magnus is projecting. His issue lies within himself. He feels differently about himself, he can't say he likes this, and it's only in conclusion that he assumes it must be the same for Alec. But Alec isn't the root of this issue. But of course it's easier to pretend it's about Alec than to openly admit his severe self-image issues, so that's what Magnus does. Perfectly ic to me. The problem I have here is that if we take what Magnus says at face value it appears that Magnus only wants his magic back so Alec will keep loving him (sidenote: even more if you cross out Harry's addition and just focus on the “You fell in love with the High Warlock of Brooklyn. Can you honestly say you don't feel differently about me?”) and the solution to that is clear: Alec drops some wedding vows, problem solved.

But that's not the problem here. Magnus would literally rather be dead than without his magic and no amount of Alec waxing poetry about him is going to change that. And honestly, I'm so grateful for Harry's addition because that made it abundantly clear to me that Magnus is projecting. His bewildered “Can you honestly say you like this?” is an admittance of “I see what I am now and I can't bear it, so how could you?” If that scene had been about Alec, that would have been so uncalled for.

And also loooool but uuuuuuhhh I found Alec's speech less than impressive? I'm sorry, I know he tried but it just didn't work for me? I felt like it really wasn't up to his usual par. Lol I honestly rolled my eyes when he started about the spark that lights up the room XD It felt impersonal, kinda. It's hard to describe. Of course I can cut him some slack on that, because he was emotionally severely overchallenged in that moment and had to make it up on the fly, but uh. Yeah.

Anyway what I really didn't like was his closing line because it kinda sounded as if he was making that decision for Magnus and that's not his place. It might be dangerous and stupid and “not worth the risk” but Magnus isn't in a place where he should have his authority revoked, so. Kept from gambling with his life, yes. With sound arguments and empathy, yes. With dictation, no. So that didn't go over too well with me. Anyway I channeled that into a ficlet already, too, which I'm also advertising at the end.

......has she just been sitting there for six episodes? Btw I wonder, if Jonathan is happily manipulating Lilith by faking positive emotions towards her I don't get why he totally fell for it every time Clary did the exact same thing to him.

I guess I'll just add the incest thing on the long long list of things that are due to the stellar parenting he enjoyed, and not entirely his fault.

1) The infirmary is very weird and open space for a place that should be easily closable if you need to contain, idk, sick people and their viruses and keep it sanitary. 2) I've been wondering since the start of the episode, did Lorenzo's pony tail get shorter? Wasn't it longer before? 3) At least Malec managed to make their feet intersect minimally, so yay for small mercies.

Look, while part of me is undeniably thrilled at the prospect – because while I was totally rooting for a Malec Wedding I was pretty sure it was an unachievable dream, just like hoping for Sheith – this is exactly what I mean with taking things at face value. Alec takes Magnus at his words (that he has doubts Alec will still love him now that he lost his powers) and so he thinks that a grand gesture of commitment will fix it.

But it won't, because that's not the problem. Or at least I hope it's not the problem, I mean if I lost my arm my main worry would be “Holy shit how am I gonna cope without my trusty appendage” not “What are the neighbors gonna think? Will I still be able to rock my favorite outfit without that limb?”

Anyway. I don't think this'll go over too well at this point in time. And honestly, Alec just realized at the beginning of this episode that he was fooled by Magnus's coping facade and tricked into thinking Magnus would be fine without his magic. And now Magnus has lost is magic again and Alec just... makes the same mistake again, blindly believing the words coming out of Magnus's mouth instead of taking a look for himself and seeing how Magnus is faring? Did he learn nothing from this? Alec. Why are you like this.

Anyway, conclusion time: This episode was way more reasonably paced than the last, the shit decision making was kept to a minimum (except for the part where they, y'know, summon Lilith back to earth) and Jace gets a diligence starlet for displaying common sense.

My first book of the Read to Roll challenge is Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Kelly Link, and Robin Wasserman.

Here we are at the pond! Fun fact: Cassandra Clare allegedly lives in the town next to mine. I kinda really hate it. 

I actually finished reading this a while ago, but I got caught up with school and the library book is due tomorrow, so I guess we’re doing this review tonight, bitches! 

First: I LOVED this book!! I have my issues with CC and it took me literally took me like 9 months to finish reading QOAAD (which I also enjoyed, I just couldn’t get through) but I FLEW through this book! I think maybe the short story format just fits my brain a bit better. I’m gonna break this down by story:

Cast Long Shadows

Matthew!! My child!! I want to hug you so much!! 

This story stood out to me as particularly hopeless, especially compared to the rest of the stories. It ended in total despair, and I understand Matthew did something VERY VERY BAD but he is a dumb child and dumb 15 year olds do a lot of dumb things so 

I really hope he gets some sort of resolution in TLH

That last bit with Cecily was just so beautiful. again.

I know ariadne broke annas heart but also i feel really bad for her. being a brown lesbian in 2019 is hard enough. she lost her parents and she doesn’t want to lose what she has left. i hope she also gets some sort of closure in TLH. i would be content with her and charlie having a charlotte and henry thing going minus the pining and falling in love. they’re married but it’s just business and they can pursue whomever on the side

Avyan Immortal Dynasty, Chapter 1: Memento Mori

Introduction

Memento Mori. That’s for suckers.

You think of all the people out there, cruising along, who are going to die someday. It's all of them and you know it's all of them, and they know it, too. But I’m not going to just lie down and play along. There’s no deep reason, no dark secret that fundamentally justifies my choices, no sob-story to trot out in front of you all.

I just don't want to die.

Of course, a girl's got options. I've done my research. A lot of sims think, oh, vampiric powers, that'll set me up good. Yeah, no. Out of the question – that’s a kind of death, right there, you just chain yourself to it and say you own it, rather than it owning you. Not fooling anyone. Potions of youth? Seems pretty sweet, but you've got to keep up on that; that's the ambrosia problem, too. It's not like I'm not going to have to go through a phase of this, of just balancing atop the rolling ball of my impending death like a chump.

But at the end, I might just get the real deal. A dynasty of immortals, 8 in a pretty little row, can do that. They can do just about anything, because they’ve made life sit down, shut up, and roll over. And that sounds just about right for me. It’s a fairly hard to find secret, that path to have the world in the palm of your hand, but I’m tough enough.

So, a little tour of Kestral, for posterity’s sake. I don’t think that if I told you I was self-assured and ambitious, you would go “Really, Kes? That doesn’t sound like you.” But I’ve also got, you know. An aesthetic heart. A creative streak, I guess I’d call it, especially when it comes to food. And drink, Kestral likes a nice bubbly something at the end of her day.

So, first things first, a fresh start; it’s not like I have much anyway, and a nice big lot in Windenburg feels like some fun scenery. I’ve been a little homeless for a while, so there’s not much wrong with just me, myself, and the big empty lot I’ve bought to live on forever.

Well… Except that I have no intention of keeping it empty, or with just me.

I’ll stalk this park, and every park in a 4-town radius. I’m a little restless, what can I say? I don’t want to wait to meet people. To get my foot in the door, I’ve done a little research on a few resident notables, but I have to find them, first. And I’ll be honest: some of them are being a little uncooperative. I’m burning daylight here.

I’m making note of a few people. Catarina’s cute, but I don’t think I have the space for –

“It’s really just me and my cats; they’re such sweeties, I couldn’t bear to live without them!” …All those cats, as she is happy to explain to me.

Next girl I met was another girl I’d heard about.

Miko could work nicely; could I bring in the roomie as well, or are they stuck with the teen? More info’s needed there.

“That dress is very styling,” is what leaves my mouth the moment I see her. “I probably need to get one like it.” (Spoiler alert: I did, but maybe more cool; less of that kind of bright aesthetic. In my colors, you get the idea.)

She giggles into her hand. “Thanks! It’s, you know, my party look, but I thought maybe getting all dressed up would help me meet people! It’s the Totoro bag principle, but with cute sushi!” The what now?

“It certainly worked for me. I’m actually out to meet people, too. I’m kinda new in the area, and I need a hand for… I guess you’d call it a mission I’m out to fulfill," I explain. You don't have to barrage someone with details, but a 'mission' is about how I see it.

“So like a quest! Awesome! That’d make you a lady knight, maybe?” It’s kind of a dumb line, but her eyes sparkle when she says it. It might just have a little real potential after all.

“I wouldn’t call it that selfless – but it’ll certainly be epic.”

“Good luck, then!” and she goes back to whatever it is she was doing as she cut through the park.

I just try and grab everyone around me… But someone catches my attention.

Not my erstwhile chess partner. The guy sort of fading into the background as he looks on, which spells M-A-R-K to me. One Johnny Zest, single …Well, let’s generously call him up-and-coming comedian. Lives alone. Not bad-looking, I suppose, if guys are your cup of tea. He’ll do.

“I’ve heard about you; comedy paying the bills?” I ask.

“Well, not exactly…” Is his uneasy response. “I’m sort of stalling right now; it’s kind of a mess. Bills are mounting up, that sort of thing. I’m trying to not sweat the money, just enjoy my life! …But materials’ been thin, too. But hey, haha, we all have our roads to cross. “…You know. “…Because the chicken?”

This explains so much.

“OK, look, Zest. You just want to have fun, right?” I lean in, considering how to pitch this. You cannot just ask a person to live on a vacant lot; you’ve got to make them recognize the opportunity! And maybe not tell them about the ‘no house’ thing. When he gives me money, I’ll give him a house!

“That does sound like me,” he answered.

“Well, I’m having an adventure…A quest, I guess. I’m doing something major, and I could really use a hand – and you could use the chance to break out of this rut! To be surrounded by strange happenstance for loads of material, to live like a guy who’s got a story – but not worry about bills, because we’re in this together. A roomie situation, that sort of thing. I’ll bring the food and drink, I’ll bring the parties, and you will get to meet lots of girls. You won’t have to worry about a thing.” That’s the best pitch I can give him, and he sighs in relief at the offer.

“Yeah, sounds fun! I’ll give it a shot! If I hate it, I’ll just move out!”

“That’s the spirit!” Because your girl does not miss a beat, and there’s no sense worrying him about the fact that he is here forever.

We are whisked from the park at a sudden phone call from Miko, wanting to hang out in the ruins… But no sooner than we arrive does she groan.

“Ugh,” she says, sagging for a moment before popping back up like a chipper little spring. “I need to go take care of something that just popped up! But I do want to talk more about what you’re planning! Call me~!” Weird…Was she really in that much of a hurry?

So, when I go back to the lot, and we do a little constructing, I call up and invite her to…

The start of the house. That’s how I want to think of it. Not my real house, just a start, just a pretend, goofy, made-up version of my real house. That made it feel kind of okay.

Be it ever so humble, right?

We go cloudgazing, and she asks me: “So what are you trying to do? This ‘mission’ of yours?”           “I’m going to live forever.”

“Everything dies, though, right? The beauty of the sakura is the beauty of its impermanence! That’s how it goes!”

I turn onto my side for a moment and I look at her eye in profile, cornered curiously towards me. If she’s gonna want to make me talk about this, I’m not having her mind wander.

“And who decided it goes that way? I’m making my own choice. What sort of chump would accept their life being something The Grim Reaper, or anyone, can take away from them? Everyone needs something no one can take, and I’m going for the gold with it.”

We face each other. Miko turns, away from the sky – but when she does, I feel like she might still be looking at something she’s reading. As I speak, her eyes widen; her lips part slightly in surprise.  Her bubbly energy’s gone very still. She looks worried. I’ve probably shot off at the mouth a little too much. Well, that’s fine; she’s got nothing to worry about. I investigate that cloud that looks like a trophy for a while.

“And that’s your happiness?” Is what she asks.

“It’s my everything, now, isn’t it: being alive. You stay dead, and eventually you can’t be anything anymore. Besides! It has other perks! I’ve got a list of things; if I do those things, I can eat ambrosia; when I do that, and 7 of my descendants do that, we’ll have completed an Immortal Dynasty. Besides the aforementioned eternity, for the kids, or the grandkids, or whatever– they’ll be able to reap its other blessings, if they want to; true freedom to do as they wish. Money and experience, to spread across the world. The restoration of lost love. Heck, if I wanted to, I could have that one, too, but that’s not the selling point for me.”

There is a moment of silence in which her face goes from shock to wonder. She claps her hands over her chest and gives me a round of applause. I don’t think she’s kidding. She looks at me with bright, bubbling excitement and a big grin.

“That,” she says, settling back in to watch the sky, “is a really cool quest! You’ll have to tell me all, all, all about what you’ve got to do, OK? I’m rooting for you!”

While I’m telling her about my plans, which I have crafted to a T (well, to my T; I’m not going to dictate my kid’s paths. Much. Yet.) Zest is talking to a girl he met.

Her, I don’t know about, though Zest tells me later her name is Lara.  Once Miko goes home, I can hear snippets of their conversation through the cheapo-depot walls.

“I think you’ll agree I [i]rose[/i] to the occasion.” She laughs. That’s how I know things are going well between them: only attraction can explain laughing at that joke.

And they go all the way “well.” If you’re not counting the mushy stuff in that, because I doubt it’s a serious relationship. I think they were both pretty clear about just wanting a nice romantic fling. It’s not a bad sort of thing, really… And the less seriously Zest takes these things, the more he plays around, as it were, the better it is for me. I’m gonna need friends for generations’ worth of children, and that ball needs to get rolling.

While they’re handling that, I wait out on the porch in the cool dusk air. And I start tending my bar. I’m going to be spending a lot of time here.

I’ve got a dream bar, you know. Just for me. It’s classy, and warm; wood tones and leather with some jewel colors. Low lighting. Maybe a fireplace, maybe some games. A piano player wraps the bar up in music, and a woman in a slinky red dress croons. On a rainy night, it’s a little candle flame, a golden, starry glow in the cool shroud of water. A private world. Sometimes, when the going gets tough, I polish the glasses there in my head, until the whole dream shines.

This… Is not that. But it’s a little seed of it.

Thoughts on Madzie?

tbh like. i love her? she’s been through so much and yet she’s so sweet and kind (kinda like her uncle :)) and i definitely get the impression that she’s super smart from the few things we’ve seen about her, and i just. aaaaa

i mean look obviously she’s been through some trauma (first with iris and then with valentine) and i think that’s important to remember like. yes she’s sweet and she’s a little kid and she is cute but she’s also complex and has a lot of baggage, you know? i mean like most warlock and kids of color, but you get it. she was literally kidnapped by a nazi who wanted to use her to kill her own kind. that’s. a lot to handle at such a young age

so i think that madzie definitely needs to relearn how to be a kid, even if of course you can’t undo trauma. but like, i think part of the reason why cat and magnus and alec are so dead set on taking her for ice cream, adding sprinkles, taking her to the park, and just spoiling her in general is so she can have that childhood? because to so many people in the shadow world, childhood is just denied. by prejudice, by loss of family, by the fear they incite in mundanes (and with warlocks, being born into mundane families, that’s particularly tricky), by struggling to understand and learn how to deal with magic and mostly having to do it on their own.... you know. there’s not a lot of time to just be a kid and enjoy childhood. and i think they all wanted to make sure that she could have that, for obviously her sake above all, but also all of theirs. making sure madzie gets to grow up happy and doesn’t have to grow up even faster than she already has is kinda healing in a way, you know?

but even then it’s hard because it’s not like there are a lot of other warlock kids that she can play with, for example. we’ve seen only one other warlock child other than her (in 1x04). vampires and werewolves are usually turned later in life. seelies are closed off and we don’t know how regularly they’re born either. mundanes are possible, but there’s always a part of herself that she has to hide from them. shadowhunters are racist fuckers so interacting with shadowhunter kids would probably be hell tbh. so she’s always surrounded by adults. very old adults, too, except for alec

so i think that’s an issue she’s had to deal with - the thoughts of loneliness and alienation. and i also think that, in their attempt to want her to have the best childhood she could get, they might have tried to protect her too much and that might have come off, to her, as underestimation. like “oh don’t worry about it, it’s just a kid” and really they just want her to have a normal life, but what she hears is condescension. and it hurts and stings a bit that she can’t have that aspect of being with other people who are her age and going through similar issues and who basically, like, understand kid culture, you know? like when she goes to the park and such it’s always fun to be with the other mundane kids, but again, she has to always be hiding, and that’s frustrating and alienating

i think it takes a while for cat and the rest of their family to realize that, how much she misses contact with other kids, how she feels like both too much of a kid (with the adults) and too grown up (by the trauma) to belong anywhere. and i think that madzie also has trouble voicing her own needs, because, again, trauma. i don’t think she had a lot of room for that even with iris, much less valentine. she’s pretty quiet, too, and i think that plays into that - she’s learnt that voicing her concerns, feelings, fears, wants, isn’t always welcome. and to both iris and valentine, well, she was a weapon, and weapons don’t talk

also, thinking specifically on how valentine groomed and abused her, i think that adds another whole layer to the whole “she feels like she’s being looked down on” thing i mentioned before. because valentine was very condescending, and he used a lot of kid talk and kid culture and wants and interests against her, you know? like kneeling to talk to her, getting her ice cream, talking in that “talking to kids” voice - he used that whole “child caretaker” position and stereotype to manipulate her, you know? so she kinda hates it, hates it when they hide things from her, use that whole condescending “you’re just a kid” narrative, treat her like- well, like too much of a kid. because to her that’s not just annoying and insulting, but she’s learnt to see it as a weakness, as something to be used against her, and it fucks her up. because of course she deserves to be a kid, and be taken care of, and be spoiled, but there’s a tricky balance there, where she also needs to feel listened to and cherished and respected as an individual. and that’s already hard for most kids to feel when talking to adults because ageism, so for her it’s just. it’s almost impossible

but god catarina loves her, okay, so much. and she’s a firm believer in communication. she’s a nurse, so she’s used to the “explaining-the-problem, looking-for-a-solution, figuring-out-prevention” approach to problems. which is good because it means lots of talking. it means she asks madzie a lot of questions, and she’s good at directing those questions, so she and madzie can both understand what she’s feeling and what’s bothering her and how catarina and the rest of their family can help it be better both at the moment and in the future. also, catarina puts her in therapy pretty soon (let everyone have therapy!! you get therapy, you get therapy, you get therapy, everybody gets therapy!) and that also helps because she gets to deal with these problems before they take too deep roots. obviously it’s not easy, but she has the best support system

i like to think that she and raphael got pretty close, which is- very healing to the both of them. raphael is an amazing big brother and that is just facts and truth, and while obviously madzie isn’t rosa and wanting her to be isn’t fair to either of them, it feels good to put his big brother shoes again, to have a little girl to love and take care of and listen to. and madzie likes that figure too, because well. iris was raising a lot of warlock kids, so she was probably used to having siblings. and it’s good to have a bigger family. and with raphael being more of a brother than a paternal or uncle-sorta figure, it feels like they’re a bit more on even ground, and she can trust him, and afford to be unapologetically a kid with him. obviously raphael is not a kid, but you understand what i mean. their relationship doesn’t have that inherently unequal/hierarchical edge of parent-child or uncle-child

and it’s nice! raphael learns about her hair texture so he can braid it and comb it and help her take care of it, and he can spend hours doing just that and talking to her. raphael knows a lot of games she hadn’t had the chance to play before, including like, games for two because him and rosa were probably alone at home relatively frequently when they were kids. also he loves to cook for her, obviously, and she loves his food. she also soon realizes that she likes cooking, too, and he teaches her how to make a few things. she’s super proud when she manages to do a certain dish for the first time (obviously raphael helps with cutting stuff and anything involving the stove but you know) and she just has the biggest smile on her face and aaah :’)

and raphael keeps her secrets when she asks him to (nothing major, but those stupid things, like “i stayed up late yesterday to watch cartoons, don’t tell mum”, you know?) and doesn’t rat her out to the adults, because again, he’s used to that, i’m 100% sure that rosa was an absolute trickster of a sister and i’ll accept nothing less. and she probably dragged raphael along on a lot of adventures and he likes that and misses her. so in that sense raphael gets to be a sort of confidant for her that she can’t really find in other adults

but also they make an effort to bring her closer to other kids (raphael in particular seems to notice how she needs that. partially because again she feels more comfortable telling him about how uncomfortable she feels with adults sometimes) and slowly build a sort of, warlock parent club? lol like there are a few other people raising warlock kids across the world and they get in touch and get them together so their kids get to play together and do magic and be happy and it’s nice. some of the parents there are even their mundane parents, who are okay with them being warlocks and love them all the same and just want the best for them and everyone tears up a little to see them being there so comfortable with their kids’ magic and world. aaaaa

(and it’s cute because the mundane parents ask so many questions on how to make sure their kids have the best upbringing possible and make an effort to understand & participate in warlock culture. and they’re very happily welcomed by the whole community and they lowkey become everyone’s kind of parental figures. like bringing cookies and some other shit that most warlocks never got to have, you know, that sorta thing. i’m emo)

so yeah madzie becoming friends with other warlock kids please :’) it’s what she deserves okay. also warlock kid culture would be a riot, i just know it. imagine the games they could make up, the usages of magic, the music. imagine warlock kids watching movies with magical creatures and just being crazy about them, wanting to learn certain kinds of magic so they can get closer to them, glamouring themselves to look like their favorite characters (you know, like other kids wear costumes, sometimes for days in a row daouhsda) and play and stuff. imagine them playing “demon summoning” or something. or playing “brewing potions”. you know?

i also think that madzie is a damn smart genius girl because well, i said so. tbh for her age she was shockingly perceptive and aware of everything that was going on around her, so that adds to that. also, the fact that iris was so deadset on getting her back specifically despite the fact that she’s been growing warlock kids for a while now hints that she’s particularly powerful, smart, or somewhat special in some other way. and with her being raised by cat, in close proximity to magnus, two certified warlock nerd geniuses who love studying and inventing new stuff and learning, i think she would quickly gain a taste for it too. and that combined with her talents is just- wow, powerful. soon she’s a goddamn little warlock genius, creating her own spells and potions, studying all kinds of subjects, etc. she’s the kid who likes to get books on animals and watch documentaries and who definitely gets super interested in specific rabbit holes and knows everything about certain topics, you know?

i like to think that she creates a potion to allow raphael to eat because she wants him to be able to taste her food too :’) and she knows how important that is to him, and how sad it is for him that he can’t eat anymore, when food means so much to him. so she figures out a way that no one had managed to make work before (cuz i mean that’s hardly the first time anyone’s ever tried. obviously it takes some years before that happens, she’s already more of a teen than a kid, but. you know) and raphael just tears up because wow that’s one of the nicest things anyone’s ever done to him and he just never expected it, and aaaaa

in short........ madzie loss deserves the world and a big family and friends and to be recognized & cherished & loved & to grow up as the kid that she is, happy and safe

Shadowhunters 2.19 - Immediate Reaction - Everything Ends

The tone of this episode felt very jarring following last week … We went from Somber/Emotional to full on WAR mode - however, once again a lot happened within very little time. I mean, this was a literal continuation of the same day… we saw Johnathan return to his apartment, to Valentine following his escape from Clary…. Then all hell breaks loose in search of Valley boy and his demon toast son.

It was awesome to see our lead Shadowhunters fighting on the front lines again - Alec with the bow + Izzy and her whip = Battle Siblings are the best… also, Clary’s fire red hair flying as she slices through an army of forsaken… Loved it -  I don’t know what Jace did physically but he managed to annoy Jonathan out of choking him to death with a chain, so like, he’s got that going for him… Jake Peralta would give #kudos

Its truly ridiculous that the parabati bond is so Fucking inconsistent - Jace cuts his hand and Alec feels it but Alec nearly dies trying to find Jace and Jace has to hear about it from Clary before it starts to affect him… Jace nearly chokes to death, then is stabbed through the lung and nothing… Magnus breaks Alec’s heart, nothing but when Magnus and Alec moved forward as a couple = Jace senses Alec is happier and gives Magnus “the talk”… there’s just so much off with it and my point is that the bond is used as a plot device, a very lazy one. And I think it’s naive of the writers not to know that we, as an audience, would notice that shit. So just like, drop it altogether or use it for everything. That’s literally the point of it.

Jonathan seriously needs a therapist because that boy has some rage issues and like, I’m pretty sure he’s not dead but I was also pretty sure Magnus and Alec wouldn’t break-up this season and I’m eating my words on that because right now, during this particular day - the are not together and that sucks. Also Valley boy got away and Johnny boy might have died or whatever so that sucks too… Moving on…

OMG Madzie and Catarina!!!!! And Magnus having his people just chillin in his home when he returns kinda totally warmed my heart… I miss seeing Magnus’ life outside of the other main characters… but like does this boy actually have locks on his doors? And if so, How many keys to the loft are just floating around NYC? Seriously anyone can totally walk into his home anytime! Is anyone else worried about this? - But of course my heart was first broken by the photo-booth pictures of him and Alec (however, I call bullshit because those weren’t their outfits when they went to Tokyo and come on… that was so not planned by the writers/people who do this shit and that bugs me. All I’m saying. Cute idea, poorly executed. Also Magnus and Alec are in love so like, why you gotta be like this?)…. Honestly, I really didn’t get where Magnus’ head was in this episode and he had very little screen time so like, we’re clearly not supposed to get it… I suspect we’ll need 2.20 to understand 2.19 for the Alec/Magnus/Seelie Queen + Valentine arc to make sense… I hope

Look, we KNOW the Seelie Queen is obviously playing everyone and we’re only seeing fragments of what’s really going on in the downworld, while the Shadowhunters try and fail to gain some sort of control over the situation. So a lot of information is in question for us, the audience - What did Valentine offer the Seelie Queen to make her walk alone with him? Why is Magnus suddenly siding with the queen and letting her speak for his people while filling his home with warlocks like he did before he met Alec? Why is Magnus so adamant that the best chance for his people lies in the Seelie Queen when he didn’t appear too fond of her like a week ago? What did she tell him? Offer him? What’s up with that? Is it all because of the lie/secret keeping issue involving the soul sword? And why would Magnus turn on Alec? - We know they love each other, has he just accepted defeat here? IS MAGNUS THE ONE PLAYING WITH EVERYONE? IS ALEC IN ON IT? CAUSE LIKE … I don’t get THIS?! Because Magnus legit had his people set up portal wards to prevent ANY shadowhunter from traveling out of the city… and he didn’t warn them that they would like, totally DIE if they tried to use a Portal? That seems cold and Magnus isn’t cold… I’m so confused… I’m hoping Magnus has a plan of his own under all this because Holy Fuck the Seelie Queen is playing EVERYONE…. Except Simon. You go Simon. #ohbutwaitno…

Luke is finally being level headed and doing right by his pack so that’s awesome + Maia is his beta #it’scanon… but like, where’s his snoopy cop partner in all this? I don’t trust her silence.

Raphael and Izzy need to stop. Straight Up. STOP… it got too weird and you can’t go back from that. Be friends, care for each other, support each other through this shit and whatever, But you’re not lovers… please don’t go there again. Pretty please? - Maia and Simon need to keep it up because they’re cute but like, let’s be real here… Maia was a walking target for the Seelie Queen (does she have a name? I hate that she is just like “the queen” fuck off bitch you’re not The Doctor or Beyonce. Come on now…) anyway, Maia is dating the daylighter, a possession the Seelie Queen appears to need/want and she’s a werewolf in Luke’s pack. 2 for 2 bitch. Take her… I get the Seelie Queen’s play on this… but meeting with Valentine? Whatcha doin with that BITCH?

The Clace scenes felt out of place for me - unless they both have a sexy battle times kink…. The intimate scenes felt overwrought in juxtaposition with the rest of the episode. I don’t know, they really are sweet on each other and it’s cute and the actors did their part (Kat likes Dom’s chest a lot…) but I just didn’t FEEL it… in fact, I would actually say I didn’t truly FEEL anything in this episode. (accept maybe Maia waking up after being drugged and finding herself in the Seelie Realm because fuck man, anyone would be shitting bricks…) But we moved through so many scenes very quickly and while the story followed well, we also saw a lot of those scenes in previews and that ruins the suspense a bit. Just saying…

Okay but Imogene can’t be Valentine’s fucking mole because of her actions in 2.12… end of discussion. Unless they flip the script and Imogene wanted to kill Magnus but like. It can't… it doesn’t work… So who is it? And like, of fucking course Valentine has a mole in the institute! Was anyone actually foolish enough to think he didn’t? But it wasn’t the Seelie Queen either, given their scene tonight she may be working with him now but she wasn’t when he found out the true identity of the mortal mirror… So who is it???? - Also, Valley boy got away, again and is working with the very people he means to destroy, again and Johnny boy might be dead? Or Was he ever properly alive? I don’t know man but my best friend will never watch another episode of this show with me because she’s terrified of zombies and those were fucking zombies. Also, Alec took out two with one arrow through the fucking skull.#damnson #myboysgotgame
