Here’s The Best of 2018 As Picked By Your Favorite Bands
Tumblr media
Well everybody, we did it. In two short weeks, 2018 will be over and we will all have somehow survived yet another 365 days on this earth. Now instead of using this space to talk about how shitty of a year it has been (because trust us, we could certainly sound off right now) we’d instead like to use this opportunity to shine a light on some of the finest things to come out of 2018 -- you know, like best album, best song, best movie, etc.
Like we’ve done in years past, instead of pretending to be the hip tastemakers and trendy influences like other websites, we’ve completely turned our year-end best-of list over to the artists we cover on a daily basis -- because let’s face it, their opinions are the ones we really care about, right?
Right.
So to check out what bands like Memphis May Fire, Fit For A King, 3oh!3, As It Is, Sylar and more have all been obsessing over for this past year, be sure to see below. We hope you love the final list as much as we do and we wish you all the most relaxing and positive holiday season.
Enjoy!
Best Album of 2018:
Tumblr media
Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire: Dan + Shay - Dan + Shay Ryan Kirby of Fit For A King: RITUALS - Deaf Havana  Nat Motte of 3oh!3: Chrome Neon Jesus - Teenage Wrist   Ira George of Movements: Technology - Don Broco     Cody Quistad of Wage War: Dan + Shay - Dan + Shay  Jay Forrest and Josh Brigham of Hopesfall: Honey - Robyn  Ben Langford-Biss of As It Is: Thank You for Today - Death Cab for Cutie  Jayden Panesso of Sylar: Beerbongs and Bentleys - Post Malone Tyler Riley of Gideon: If I Know Me - Morgan Wallen   Adrian Estrella of Assuming We Survive: Technology - Don Broco Palisades: Prequelle - Ghost  Matt Gravolin of Hellions: Stranger in the Alps - Phoebe Bridgers Calling All Captains’ Nick Malychuk & Luc Gauthier: Proper Dose - The Story So Far  Tyler Levenson of Afterlife: Welcome To The Neighbourhood - Boston Manor  Camm Knopp of Never Loved: Time & Space - Turnstile + Proper Dose - The Story So Far (it’s a tie sorry)  Patrick Hamilton of Vanish: Come Over When You’re Sober pt.2 - Lil Peep Vagrants: When The End Began - Silent Planet  Household: Nearer my God - Foxing Daniel Nelson of LIMBS: Bad Witch by Nine Inch Nails is the best album of the year in my opinion. I am heavily into Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ work and I just love that they went for a totally different sound and vibe with Bad Witch compared to all the NIN records prior. They blend modern jazz with industrial, chaotic synthscapes and it’s absolutely wild.
Best Song of 2018:
youtube
Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire: "Better Now" by Post Malone  Ryan Kirby of Fit For A King: “Hereafter” by Architects Nat Motte of 3oh!3: "Swallow" by Teenage Wrist  Ira George of Movements: “4Ever” by Clairo   Cody Quistad of Wage War: “Tequila” by Dan + Shay    Jay Forrest and Josh Brigham of Hopesfall: “Middle America” by Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks    Ben Langford-Biss of As It Is: “It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You)” by The 1975  Jayden Panesso of Sylar: “SAD!” by XXXTentaction   Tyler Riley of Gideon: “Slow Burn” by Kacey Musgraves Adrian Estrella of Assuming We Survive: “Better Now” by Post Malone   Palisades: “Mantra” by Bring Me The Horizon  Matt Gravolin of Hellions: “Please Don’t Die” by Father John Misty   Calling All Captains’ Nick Malychuk & Luc Gauthier: “Bodybag” by LIL LOTUS feat. Coldhart  Tyler Levenson of Afterlife: “Mo Bamba” by Sheck Wes  Camm Knopp of Never Loved: “High Hopes” by Panic! At The Disco (big mood)  Patrick Hamilton of Vanish: “Lavender Bones” by Stand Atlantic  Vagrants: “Doomsday” by Architects  Household: “Keeping Up” by Microwave  Daniel Nelson of LIMBS: “On My Teeth” by Underoath. I don’t care what anyone says, they wrote a phenomenal record and knew they would get flak for it. They deserve all the recognition they have been getting because they have been working hard since the beginning. It was so sick to see them get a Grammy nomination too. That was essentially a big middle finger to all of their nay-sayers, whether they win or not.
Best Music Video of 2018:
youtube
Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire: “This Is America” by Childish Gambino   Ryan Kirby of Fit For A King: “Hereafter” by Architects  Nat Motte of 3oh!3: "New Light" by John Mayer   Ira George of Movements: “Say Something” by Justin Timberlake ft. Chris Stapleton  Cody Quistad of Wage War: “Hereafter” by Architects  Jay Forrest and Josh Brigham of Hopesfall: “Dark Speed” by Failure    Ben Langford-Biss of As It Is: “Sincerity is Scary” by The 1975  Jayden Panesso of Sylar: “SICKO MODE” by Travis Scott Tyler Riley of Gideon: “Aeon” by Crystal Lake  Adrian Estrella of Assuming We Survive: “This Is America” by Childish Gambino  Palisades: “SICKO MODE” by Travis Scott  Matt Gravolin of Hellions: “Sincerity is Scary” by The 1975    Calling All Captains’ Nick Malychuk & Luc Gauthier:  “This Is America” by Childish Gambino  Tyler Levenson of Afterlife:  “SICKO MODE” by Travis Scott  Camm Knopp of Never Loved: "New Light" by John Mayer     Patrick Hamilton of Vanish: “God Is A Woman” by Ariana Grande  Vagrants: “Rose Quartz/Fulton Street I” by La Dispute  Household: “thank u, next” by Ariana Grande  Daniel Nelson of LIMBS: Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” has gotta be THE best music video of this year. I have nothing but respect for Donald Glover and the way he presented controversial, political topics through all of the blunt, straight-forward imagery throughout that video. He’s never put out anything I haven’t enjoyed front to back.
Most Underrated Album of 2018:
Tumblr media
Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire: Are You Even There At All? - Brent Walsh  Ryan Kirby of Fit For A King: Gray States EP - The Material Nat Motte of 3oh!3: Graffiti U - Keith Urban  Ira George of Movements: Man of The Woods - Justin Timberlake  Cody Quistad of Wage War: Seasons - Sylar  Jay Forrest and Josh Brigham of Hopesfall: Holy Hell - Architects  Ben Langford-Biss of As It Is: Be More Kind - Frank Turner  Jayden Panesso of Sylar: Kids – The Midnight Tyler Riley of Gideon: Hatred Softly Spoken - Chamber Adrian Estrella of Assuming We Survive: In Our Wake - Atreyu   Palisades: Come Hell - Dead Crown Matt Gravolin of Hellions: Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino - Arctic Monkeys Calling All Captains’ Nick Malychuk & Luc Gauthier: Blue In The Dark - Bearings  Tyler Levenson of Afterlife: When The End Began - Silent Planet  Camm Knopp of Never Loved: Some Rap Songs - Earl Sweatshirt  Patrick Hamilton of Vanish: Taco - Bilmuri  Vagrants: Palms - Thrice  Household: Pierre - Pierre [ed note: We have no idea if it’s this or this. Guess you’ll have to decide!]     Daniel Nelson of LIMBS: Vince Staples’ FM Radio is very underrated in my opinion. I haven’t seen much about it at all since it dropped and it’s a sick follow up to Big Fish Theory.
Best Movie of 2018:
youtube
Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire: Bohemian Rhapsody  Ryan Kirby of Fit For A King: Upgrade  Nat Motte of 3oh!3: Isle Of Dogs  Ira George of Movements: Annihilation  Cody Quistad of Wage War: Incredibles 2  Jay Forrest and Josh Brigham of Hopesfall: Avengers: Infinity Wars  Ben Langford-Biss of As It Is: A Star Is Born  Jayden Panesso of Sylar: Avengers: Infinity War Tyler Riley of Gideon: Ready Player One  Adrian Estrella of Assuming We Survive: Bohemian Rhapsody  Palisades: BlacKkKlansman  Matt Gravolin of Hellions: Hereditary Calling All Captains’ Nick Malychuk & Luc Gauthier: Avengers: Infinity War  Tyler Levenson of Afterlife: Avengers: Infinity War  Camm Knopp of Never Loved: Deadpool 2 Patrick Hamilton of Vanish: The Ritual  Vagrants: Avengers: Infinity War  Household: BlacKkKlansman  Daniel Nelson of LIMBS: Hereditary, hands down. Best story, best character development, best everything. Acting, special effects.  EVERYTHING. I don’t wanna give away too much because I want whoever is reading this to watch it for themselves.
Most Binge-Worthy Show of 2018:
youtube
Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire: Riverdale  Ryan Kirby of Fit For A King: Ozark  Nat Motte of 3oh!3: Bodyguard   Ira George of Movements: The Final Table  Cody Quistad of Wage War: Nashville Jay Forrest and Josh Brigham of Hopesfall: Haunting of Hill House   Ben Langford-Biss of As It Is: The Innocent Man  Jayden Panesso of Sylar: Ozark (Season 2), My Hero Academia Tyler Riley of Gideon: Brooklyn Nine-Nine  Adrian Estrella of Assuming We Survive: Vikings Palisades: Haunting of Hill House  Matt Gravolin of Hellions: Ozark (Season 2)  Calling All Captains’ Nick Malychuk & Luc Gauthier: Brooklyn Nine-Nine  Tyler Levenson of Afterlife: Bodyguard  Camm Knopp of Never Loved: The Office... duh  Patrick Hamilton of Vanish: Haunting of Hill House  Vagrants: The Office Household: Better Call Saul Daniel Nelson of LIMBS: If you haven’t seen Wild, Wild Country on Netflix yet, you need to. My girlfriend and I binged through that show with a quickness. What a crazy time it would have been to be alive and living in Wasco County, Oregon when all of that was going down.
Favorite Internet Moment of 2018 (Viral Video, GIF, Meme, etc.):
Tumblr media
Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire: Super Bowl selfie kid  Ryan Kirby of Fit For A King: Thanos memes   Nat Motte of 3oh!3: This Post Malone / 21 Savage / Nickelback mashup video  Ira George of Movements: The Real Bros Of Simi Valley  Cody Quistad of Wage War: Moth memes got me pretty good for a while.    Jay Forrest and Josh Brigham of Hopesfall: This. Ben Langford-Biss of As It Is: The rise and fall of Mason Ramsey  Jayden Panesso of Sylar: “Weird flex, but okay” Tyler Riley of Gideon: Mason Ramsey  Adrian Estrella of Assuming We Survive: Don Broco Warped Tour workout video  Palisades: Pikachu shocked face  Matt Gravolin of Hellions: “Weird flex, but okay” Calling All Captains’ Nick Malychuk & Luc Gauthier: Squished face Lil Xan/moth memes  Tyler Levenson of Afterlife: Any and all Casey Frey videos  Camm Knopp of Never Loved: Spongebob memes are great  Patrick Hamilton of Vanish: The bird Spongebob meme  Vagrants: Surprised Pikachu  Daniel Nelson of LIMBS: I try not to get too caught up with all of that but the moth memes were pretty great.
Thing(s) You Wish You Had Done in 2018 But Didn't:
Tumblr media
Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire: Exercise lol  Ryan Kirby of Fit For A King: Go to the gym more.  Nat Motte of 3oh!3: Feeling pretty good about 2018, honestly. I voted and did my civic duty, paid my taxes, toured the country twice, worked hard, treated the people close to me with love and respect and tried to do that with everyone I came across!  Ira George of Movements:  Eat healthier  Cody Quistad of Wage War: Made a million dollars.  Jay Forrest and Josh Brigham of Hopesfall: Watch our favorite teams win the Super Bowl. A collectively impossible feat.    Ben Langford-Biss of As It Is: Have more rest.  Jayden Panesso of Sylar: Wish I stuck to my workout plan like I originally intended to. Tyler Riley of Gideon: Go to Brazil  Adrian Estrella of Assuming We Survive: Worked out more, learned how to play the clarinet.  Palisades: Cook at home more.  Matt Gravolin of Hellions: Procrastinated less  Calling All Captains’ Nick Malychuk & Luc Gauthier: Tour the United States of America Tyler Levenson of Afterlife: I have no regrets! 2018 was an incredible year for me.  Camm Knopp of Never Loved: Tour more. Vagrants: Travel outside of the USA  Household: Hang out with friends and family more  Daniel Nelson of LIMBS: Tour with Deftones. Hopefully Chino will read this and maybe consider taking LIMBS out next year?
Bonus Question: 2019 New Year's Resolution:
Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire: Perform in New Zealand  Ryan Kirby of Fit For A King: Play in South America!  Nat Motte of 3oh!3: To yet again, not make any resolutions!    Ira George of Movements: Eat healthier  Cody Quistad of Wage War: Be more healthy: physically and mentally. Write the best songs I’ve ever written.  Jay Forrest and Josh Brigham of Hopesfall: Be hardcore.       Ben Langford-Biss of As It Is: Have even less rest.  Jayden Panesso of Sylar: Play in new continents with Sylar, learn more about engineering music on my own.   Tyler Riley of Gideon: Put out our best album yet Adrian Estrella of Assuming We Survive: Workout more, give back to the community and better myself  Palisades: Make more music for 2019 Matt Gravolin of Hellions: Procrastinated less  Calling All Captains’ Nick Malychuk & Luc Gauthier: Play 150 Shows  Tyler Levenson of Afterlife: Travel to more of the world, see everything I possibly can.  Camm Knopp of Never Loved: Bust more butt get more bread    Vagrants: TOUR outside of the USA  Household: Write music and hang out with friends and family ;)  Daniel Nelson of LIMBS: To release a record of my own. I have been heavily into synths and music recording and production in general. I’m gonna try to delve more into that world next year and hopefully have something to show for it.

The Girl who spoke nerd: Peter´s pov
Word Count: 1,828
Pairing: Peter Parker x female!Reader
Warnings: mentions of bullying
A/N: I love writing pov of a character. And Spiderman. Hope you enjoy :) (Chester is an OC of mine, playing a part in my Deadpool Story)
Tumblr media
„Stark, Parker“ the voice of my science teacher brought me back to reality.
I had been staring at her again, she knew.
Of course she knew, it was as obvious as me blushing at the fact my teacher hadn´t only caught me staring at her, but also decided to put us in a project together.
It was strange, somehow the teachers really liked it when I embarrassed myself in front of her.
We were also always seated next to each other and had to do several projects together.
Sometimes I wondered if they just had a strange sense of humor or were straight-up cruel.
„If you keep staring at me like that, I might explode, Superman“
She said it in an innocent way, but her smile was wicked and herr eyes gleamed mean.
The class had a good laugh at her comment and I just looked down at my failed attempts to draw her.
I could feel the heat in my cheeks and her merry laugh.
„I...I wasn´t...staring“ I tried to defend myself, but ended up stuttering, like always.
„Oh, Pete, I was just kidding!“ (Y/N) laughed even louder.
„Of course you were, creep“
Flash Thompson was the embodiment of a coitus interruptus, always too late and always failing, but everyone seemed to love him, to me he was just trying too hard.
He was afraid of (Y/N) because she was a mutant, which never bothered me, but because of that Flash wanted her to like him, so that she wouldn´t kill him.
Felicia Hardy asked him one day why he tried to impress her so much, which I heard the answer of.
He left and (Y/N) showed up to a Felicia who laughed villainous and told her all about it, to which (Y/N) responded: „You don´t need to be a mutant to be annoyed by Flash Thompson, but why the hell would I want to kill him? His wrong answers already do that“.
I laughed.
Her best friend then grabbed me, because I dared to cross their path on my way to my locker, and took away my sketches of (Y/N) just to show her.
That was about two months ago, in (Y/N)´s first week at high school.
„Ew, that´s creepy!Such a stalker nature“ she reacted.
„Yeah!I bet he does a lot of handwork on them, if you know what I mean!“
They laughed.
„I´m...I´m not that kind of guy!“ I tried to defend myself.
„Sure you aren´t.“
Then Chester, another mutant, came by and punched me, I just proceeded to leave.
It was weird in the first few weeks with (Y/N) in school, she acted like a stereotypical mean girl, desperately trying to find new friends.
One day she casually sat down next to Michelle, an introvert girl who never hid that she hated basically everybody.
So Ned and I were really excited to see what would happen next.
The day started with (Y/N) walking into school without her miniskirt and high heels, instead she wore dark ripped up jeans, a tight black shirt and sneakers, her hair was done up.
Michelle´s look was priceless, a numb expression on her face, eyebrows furrowed.
She put down her book and smiled back at (Y/N), who proudly showed her new outfit.
„Finally, you want to see the sketches?“ they did a secret handshake and Michelle laughed with (Y/N). „Yes, please“ (Y/N) responded and as soon as she saw them, she snorted. I always thought her laugh was like chirping, but this was cute, I couldn´t help, but smile. „What is going on?“ Ned whispered.
„I have no idea“ I was lost in the conversation, (Y/N) laughed at Michelle´s sketches and they talked about dancing and the band, gossiped about the stereotypes and in the end (Y/N) thanked Michelle for being her friend.
Suddenly the `Add sugar spice and everything nice´- attitude changed into the `She´s beauty she´s grace she´ll punch you in the face´- attitude.
And I had the biggest crush on her, and a science project to be done.
„I´ll swing by later“ (Y/N) interrupted me from grieving.
„Er...yeah...cool“ I gave her a quick smile and then packed my things for the next lesson.
It was funny how everyone was so scared of her when she was so awesome, Ned was afraid of her too, so I couldn´t tell him how I felt about (Y/N), that´s why I told him I liked Liz, the sophomore girl he was into.
The bell rang after another day of school which lasted too long and I hurried to get home.
I even spared the drive to the dumpster where I normally go to collect computer items.
„Hey, May, Ben“ I locked the door behind me to greet my aunt and uncle.
„Hey, Peter, how was school?“ asked May through the kitchen.
„It was pretty good actually, (Y/N) will come later, we have a project to do on X rays“ „X rays, huh?“ laughed uncle Ben.
Sometimes it happens that I don´t listen when I´m talking so the words just come out and it´s awkward.
„Is (Y/N) the girl you talk about all the time?“ May asked.
„I thought her name was Liz“ Uncle Ben called from the living room.
„Yes that´s her, Ben, Liz is just an alibi for Ned, he shouldn´t know I like her“ I tried to explain, as I accompanied him on the Couch.
„Why not?” he asked me. „Because she´s a mutant“ I answered and shifted awkwardly, the Topic of mutants was quite controversial. „So what?“ Ben shrugged. „I know you´re really tolerant, I don´t have a problem with that either, I just don´t get why people have, it doesn´t feel right!“ I got defensive again, but I knew I couldn´t Change a Thing.
„You´re just like your dad“ Ben smiled and I had to too.
„Everyone´s afraid of her“ I frowned, still not grasping it.
„Don´t you want to tidy your room?“ May remarked.
I checked the time and ran into my room, bashing the door and hysterically screaming a „Sorry!“.
Then I cleaned my room in ten minutes so it looked like (Y/N) could sit somewhere.
Finally the doorbell rang.
„I´m coming!“ I rushed to the door, passed  laughing May and Ben before I stopped to breathe and opened the door.
„Hey“ I grinned widely.
„Shall I pass?“ she smiled and after laughing at a reference of a movie I was pretty sure she had never seen I stepped back so that she could enter.
„You shall pass“
„So you must be (Y/N)!“ Ben stood up from the couch and shook (Y/N)´s hand.
„Yes, I am. It´s nice to meet you, Mr Parker“ she smiled widely. „Hello (Y/N), Peter has told us so much about you! Dinner´s done, do you want to join us?“ May came out of the kitchen and also shook (Y/N)´s hand.
„That would be really nice, Mrs Parker, thank you“ (Y/N) was very Kind. „You´re welcome“ May smiled and then gave me thumbs up.
„This is delicious, Mrs Parker“ (Y/N) said.
The dinner went on pretty good, as we finished I showed (Y/N) my room.
„Pretty“ she noticed.
„Thanks, so on what aspects should we focus?“ I tried to Focus on the Project rather than our future marriage and children, „Of course how x rays work, how to use them, x ray vision, maybe history, like who found it and how it developed“ she thought out loud. „Okay, I´ll start the presentation“ I offered and took out my Laptop. „Alright“  (Y/N) placed herself on my bed, searching her notes on the topic, staring at me.
I turned around to show her the design, she was smiling.
„What?“ I asked, blushing.
Her smile widened.
„Nothing, it´s just, you´re so nice to me“ she said. „Well, why wouldn´t I be?“ I asked. „Because I was pretty mean to you when I first came into school“  she almost sounded as if she was apologizing. „So what, everyone´s mean to me. I don´t mind“ I tried to Play it off cool. „Yes you do, Penis Parker“ she smirked. „Come on, not you too“ I was annoyed at that stupid nickname. „See it bothers you“ she remarked. „Of course it bothers me, who wouldn´t be bothered?“ I gave in. „Then why don´t you do anything against it?“ she asked, as if doing anything would help. „Cause I can´t, if I did, nothing would change, they would just keep going, only stronger this time. If I ignore it, it might go away“ I confessed. „You know what, Parker?“ she smiled at me. „What?“ I was confused. „I think you´re pretty awesome“ she now grinned and I had a rapid heartbeat. I didn´t respond to that, maybe I should´ve before I lost her, but it was too late, so only the memory remained, I wish I´d done something before she vanished.
Instead we just finished the project and one week later, I became Spiderman and uncle Ben died.
Since that day she wasn´t in school, rumor had it that she returned to the school for gifted youngsters.
I haven´t seen her in six months, neither have I spoken to her.
But Spiderman has, I´ve seen her in Brooklyn and Hell´s Kitchen, so why did she lie?
One day I walked around in the Bronx and I saw Tricity, my hero idol, she just fought King Pin with the Punisher, then they turned into a corner, where she unmasked, it has been (Y/N) all the time, and I watched from the rooftop.
That explained a lot, but it didn´t look like a mission, she left me alone.
So you can see why I am so surprised seeing her sit on my couch with her dad today.
He said I won a scholarship, but I was suspicious about that.
„Hey, Pete, can we talk?“ she looked at me with her (Y/E/C) eyes and stood up.
I said nothing until we were in my room.
„Listen, Peter, I´m sorry. I know the last months were rough for you, maybe you needed me, I don´t know that, I just know that I feel really guilty for just leaving you. I just, your uncle died, I didn´t know how to handle that, I still don´t, maybe you needed space, maybe you didn´t want to see me, and trust me, I understand that you´re angry and I´m so sorry.“ Her voice cracked. How could someone be so perfect? I just looked at her, I couldn´t believe she was really here right now.
„Peter, say something“ she whispered.
„You´re awesome, Tricity“ I smiled slightly and she sat down next to me with a big grin.
„Spiderman“ (Y/N) was so near to me, she looked so beautiful, she cut her hair and got her braces removed, her lips were full and rosy, her lips…
I leaned in without thinking and then I kissed her.
Her hand grabbed mine as she placed her arm around my neck and deepened the kiss, then her dad came in.

My name is Jasmine Masters and I have something to say:
RPDR S9E1 Spoilers, Mystery 14th Queen prediction, and a lot of opinions about RPDR9 below the cut
Initial Impressions/hometown/Gaga looks
Peppermint: She has a very relaxed and fun attitude. She’s funny and witty in a way that feels authentic rather than fake reality TV “reads” or whatever. I’m really glad they’re starting to embrace trans queens, because they’ve had at least 14 trans and nb queens. (Katya, Violet, Jiggly, Stacy Layne Matthews, Jinkx Monsoon, Ben Delacreme, Carmen Carrera, and a lot of trans women who I know I’m missing).
Peppermint’s hometown look was pretty good. I was disappointed that so many NY queens did the statue of liberty, like that just seems way too obvious and there’s 4 NYC queens so... awk. I thought her Bowie inspired Gaga look was okay. It was definitely more inspired by Gaga rather than a direct recreation, which I appreciated. I thought she did okay.
I hope she goes far, but I think she’s going to make it to at least the top 7. I’m not sure that I can see her winning.
Valentina: She seems sweet and I am absolutely floored that she had only been doing drag for 10 months by the start of the season. Her look is very polished, and I am LIVING for her beret confessional look. She seems more reserved than a lot of the bigger personalities in this season, but she wasn’t afraid to stick up for herself and do a bit of reading.
Valentina’s hometown look was one of my favorites. I appreciate that she was authentic to her culture in representing East LA. She made a look with high-waisted pants, and a jacket with a bare chest look flawlessly feminine. Her Gaga look wasn’t my favorite. I’ve definitely bought those neon bob wigs from a party store for $15 before, and overall I don’t think she gave me the same impression that Gaga gave. Maybe some more dramatic makeup or a more matte wig would change my mind.
I think she’s definitely going to be a looks queen this season. I can see her making the middle of the pack, or going home within the first half.
Farrah Moan: So she comes off as a bit of an airhead, but I agree w Shea that it’s kinda endearing. And I’d be upset if everyone else got their own workspace but I didn’t.
Farrah’s hometown looks was one of my favorites. Fuck Michelle Visage for saying that she wasn’t “Vegas enough.” Like Farrah lives and works there, and she wanted to serve something other than the stereotypical showgirl. I really thought her look was a high art/religious reimagining of a showgirl. Loved this look. Her Gaga look did swallow her up, and the crosses looked too campy for me? She’s definitely a body queen and Gaga was right when she said that it needed a reveal.
She’s gonna be a body queen, and I hope she has something more to showcase. I’m pretty sure she isn’t a strong lipsyncer so I expect her to go home relatively early on a talent-based challenge.
Eureka: I know we shouldn’t compare queens to queens from previous seasons because they’re all unique blah blah blah BUT, she’s giving me a low-rent version of Ginger Minj. I said it. She has the same cheesy one-liner “reads” that aren’t funny.
Her hometown look was purposefully messy and I guess you could call it campy. I felt like that was kind of a cop out for actually presenting something good on the first challenge? Like messy hair and makeup (which implied abuse w the black eye and all of the bloody patches??? I could be making this up). I’m sure she’s telling an accurate story of TN where she grew up, but it just felt like an easy excuse for the first challenge. I liked her Gaga look, and I appreciate that she changed the proportions to make it fit her body, but it looked like it was duct-taped together?
She took up way too much screentime for my liking, and I’m confused at why she made top 3 for this challenge. I want her to go home early, but she’s a pretty good dancer for a big girl. I can see her surviving at least 2 lip syncs depending on who she’s up against. I think she has a decent shot at making top 7, but she’s not gonna make it to the end.
Jaymes Mansfield: So from this episode Jaymes didn’t leave a great impression. They edited her entrance to make it seem more awkward than it actually was (the queens are supposed to pose for like 30 seconds to get the shot), but she definitely comes off as nervous. I’ve seen a bit of her stuff on youtube and she’s funny in interviews. I think her character is cute and fun, but it’s definitely forced.
Being from the Milwaukee area, I was a little disappointed by her hometown look. It reminded me of Magnolia Crawford’s 1 and only runway on S6. She’s definitely a campy queen, and I think she’s trying to match her aesthetic to her humor (in the same way Trixie does), but it’s falling flat and just kinda coming off as poorly executed. I saw what she was going for with the messy sleepy Gaga look, but the dress was poorly made, the hair was way too sloppy, and the sleepy gig was confusing.
I want her to have the opportunity to show off her humor and for people to understand her campy gig. I think Gaga was right when she said that Jaymes is hiding behind her camp though. Unfortunately, I think her personality won’t translate well to TV, and I can see her going home in the first 3-4 episodes.
Charlie Hides: Her glasses look was a fun concept but doesn’t seem... age appropriate? I’m probably being ageist rn tbh. Her personality doesn’t really click for me. I think she’s gonna bring some unexpected looks. She’s done blackface before though, and I think Peppermint was right when she said that Charlie’s sense of humor might not translate to the judges. Anyone who describes themselves as “politically incorrect” honestly just comes off as an asshole to me.
Her hometown look was okay. Nothing special for me. I think if she had a better tearaway, and had done something more w her face/bonnet/overall look it would have been more successful. (rather than just taking a long puritan dress and then a reveal just making it a shorter dress.) Her Gaga look was one of the best of the night imo.
I think they’ll keep her till Snatch Game. If she flops on SG she’ll be out that episode or within the next 2. If she wins SG, I think they’ll keep her around for a little longer, but probably send her home after making enough excuses for her just because she did well on SG.
Nina Bo’Nina Brown: I like her charisma and she’s pretty funny. She’s definitely full of surprises, and I can’t wait to see what looks she’s gonna pull out w her paper technique. I think Michelle is gonna tell her to show us something other than her paper looks. Nina can probably bring some glamor, but I think she’ll go back ASAP to her paper looks.
The peach look was unique and conceptual. 100% of the time I would rather have a mediocrely executed conceptual look rather than a boring or “just pretty” look. I’m not sure if her makeup was too harsh or if the closeup HD shots just showed how over the top you need to do the makeup to paint for the back row. I wish she had blended her contour just a BIIIIIIT more. Her Gaga look was perfectly executed. I appreciate that she was giving us legs for days with her padding. It was a pretty obvious choice for a Gaga look, but honestly, I have nothing to complain about here.
7/8 people who win the first challenge have made it to the top 3. I see her at least making top 6. I can see her being a controversial queen.
Aja: I think her talking about her looks and Brooklyn so much may have been off-putting for some people. I didn’t see it as her bragging, I just saw a young queen being confident in herself.
Aja’s hometown look really left me wanting more. She kinda looked like a more polished statue of liberty impersonator on the street, but a significantly under-dressed drag queen. I was really hoping for something more from her. Her Gaga look wasn’t something I would conventionally think of for Gaga, but Gaga enjoyed it and I did too. It made up for her hometown look.
Even if she flounders a bit in the beginning of the competition she can vogue and dance and bring some energy to the stage. I can see her surviving some lipsyncs and getting her shit together pretty quickly. She’s got a perspective and she definitely has more to show. I’m looking forward to her. Probably top 6.
Sasha Velour: I think she can come off as a little too in her head or a little too cold initially.
I wasn’t initially impressed by her hometown look, and I think it was because both of her hands had props in them. I wish she would have attached the heart to a wire and made it pop off her should to float in the air or something to give her more liberty to pose and show off. Her Gaga look was... Gaga. Like exactly the same as the Art Pop look. I liked the addition of the flowy fabric, and I think she really sold herself in that runway look. I was getting that v Sasha-esque artsy angry feel from it. I’m not sure if she deserved top 3 for this challenge, but I’m not complaining.
I think we’ll see more of her as the competition unravels, and she’s definitely going to bring some out of the box, conceptual, art looks this season. I’m pretty positive she’s gonna make top 3. Absolutely my pick for the winner of S9, I’m biased.
Shea Coulee: I liked her confessionals and she seems really authentic. She had some funny moments, but I don’t really have much more to say about her at this point. She didn’t get a lot of screentime.
Her hometown look was fun and campy. I think she really showed us good camp. The proportions were right w that hotdog, it had a focal point, and she was selling it with her pageant quote. Her Gaga look didn’t go big enough for me. I understood what she was going for, but it didn’t go far enough for me.
Despite all of this, I think she’s really quick-witted and she’ll make it to the top 6. I look forward to seeing what she’ll do in the challenges where she can show off more of her personality. One of my picks for top 3.
Kimora Black: Gia Gunn 2.0 in a good way. I’m ready for her to bring some drama, and serve some curvy looks. I think she’s got a very direct personality and I can’t wait to see what she’ll do for the team challenges.
Her hometown look was okay imo. I wasn’t gagging, but she showed off her body. I think she got upstaged by Farrah here. Her Gaga look looked like someone dressing up as Gaga for Halloween.
I think she’ll stay on for roughly the same amount of time that Gia did. She’ll make a splash and serve some body, but I think she’ll fall flat on challenges where she has to do everything and can’t rely on her looks. She’s really hot out of drag though.
Trinity Taylor: I’m not looking forward to another season w pageant girl drama. I’m sure she has talents if she’s won pageants before, but her entrance look was really ugly imo. I think I’m personally gonna have a problem w her taste level.
I appreciate that she did her hometown look in that street art style, but it looked really ridiculous to me. It was so big that it looked like a weird human billboard. Her Gaga Countess look was just not fully realized imo. The blood looked fake, and her hair curls looked so HARD and crusty. I get that it’s a hard hairstyle, but this look did not come through for me, oh at all.
I don’t think she’ll be able to survive the other girls when the challenges get tougher. I can’t see her getting farther than the middle of the pack/after whatever the pageant drama is. She’ll stay long enough to talk about the Orlando Shooting though.
Alexis Michelle: She’s nice to look at out of drag and I’m pretty sure she had a few reads. She’s definitely gonna have some opinions and she seems like a strong personality. Her aesthetic was definitely giving me Roxxxy vibes, and it must be their shared pageant background.
I really wish her hometown look had been stronger. I loved the civil rights idea, but it looked haphazardly painted onto a bodice. I think her big NYC banner gave her a presence, but ultimately the campy tourist culture idea clashed with her civil rights idea. I wish she would have just stuck with the civil rights idea and took it all the way. Conceptually there was a lot more that could have been done there. Her Gaga look was elegant. Just gorgeous.
I’ve seen her do some really theatrical performances. I know she has a musical theatre background, and she definitely has a vision- to perform on broadway as a drag queen. I think she’ll be able to coast her way to the top 6. I hope the show gives her the platform to be able to achieve her dreams.
I LOVED having Gaga as a guest judge. I know it’s unrealistic but I hope she can judge again.
rough prediction of how the season will go:
14. Jaymes
13. Trinity
12. Farrah
11. Kimora [snatch game episode?]
10. “Mystery Queen”- aka Cynthia Lee Fontaine
9. Charlie
8. Valentina
----------------halfway point------------------
7. Eureka
6. Peppermint
5. Aja
------------------top 4-----------------------
4th place will be between Nina and Alexis
Shea makes top 3
Sasha will make top 3 and win.

Ship you're curious about:
I feel like I don’t have an answer for this, unless it means like, ship you saw from a fandom you’re not a part of but it looks nice. I would say Jake/Amy from Brooklyn 99. I never watched past season 1, and I know I’m too lazy to go back, but I wish I could for that ship.
Ship that you find most sexy:
I don’t think I will ever consume as much smut for any ship as I have for Ben/Leslie
Ship that you find cute but don't ship:
Ohhhh so controversial tbh, and I do think they go past “cute”, but Steve/Peggy. I totally completely get it, I think they’re so lovely in the first Cap, and its tragic what happened. But I’m okay with it, I really loved Peggy with Daniel on the show, and watching her process losing Steve on the show just made me feel like, I’m okay with it. I don’t hang onto that ship in any major way.

“The Jesus Christ Superstar Movie Watching LSD Trip” or “The Judges of the Fate of Andrew Lloyd Webber” (2/2)
The movie fades away to the cross in front of the sun, because Norman Jewison always captures the skies in such a form that always matches the mood, the feeling.  Then Zack says “Okay, let’s watch the 2014 UK Arena Tour.” (For some reason we kept calling it 2014, even though it’s 2012.)  And I was not excited.  Because it’s so bad...
If you’re reading this, you’re probably pissed at me for saying that.  My high school drama teacher gave it to me for Christmas, and I thought it was cool af when I first saw it.  Saw... Not listened to...  Now, don’t get me wrong.  There were things I thought were really cool about it, but after I tripped and watched it, I became disgusted with it.
We put it in, even though we all think it’s cringe af.  It opens with the news reporters on the big ass TV over the stairs/stage, then the overture starts playing.  They start showing Anonymous and stuff and we were already “Ewwwww!”  And then Simon comes in and throws a Molotov cocktail, and Zack, Ethan, and I bust out laughing.  Simon with his stupid trendy Pidgeot hair.
It’s modernize, but I can’t relate to it, because Jesus, the disciples, and the multitude were all supposed to be dressed up like how people my age dress, but nobody does, except for rich ass pussy kids that live in Brooklyn.
Then Tim Minchin starts singing...  Dear God.  Talk about autotune.  Now, I know he was against the autotune, and I know that Minchin is talented.  I’ve heard his own music.  But come on, he didn’t have the voice for such a part in a rock opera.  Don’t tell me “Oh well it sounds like today” because it doesn’t.  It’s all overproduced and overamplified with some shitty electronic beats that go over it sometimes.
And this entire time, everything looks so robotic, like the entire show was all done with codes and math algorithms, because, even if you don’t wanna hear it, LSD makes you see the truth and speak the truth of everything.  The blocking looked like it was done by a computer.  We know for a fact that the singing was done by computers.
The Temple was awful, gross.  I don’t say that from a religious perspective, cause I don’t believe in any of that.  What was so great about the ‘73 film was that it suggested sexuality without going overboard.  It gave us a little hint of lust in the Temple, which was controversial for its time, but it was done with taste.  In the 2012 Mariah Carey Fuck-Up Watered-Down “Rock” Arena Sellout Tour, you’ve got the entire ensemble dry-humping each other like it’s a mass orgy while such an amazing rock/metalish guitar riff is being deluded by these terrible electro dance beats.
There were a couple of parts that seemed really off.  Like, the actors didn’t know who their characters are (Not talking about Minchin.  He had a great character.).  In The Argument during the Last Supper, Jesus FUCKING SHOVES Judas onto his back.  I can’t believe that they did some stupid ass reality TV show to cast Ben Forster, who can’t sing it right, who can’t act it for shit.  Instead of hitting a high ass rock note, he just squeals in falsetto autotune.  Now being a theatre major, I shouldn’t have to say I have no problem with gay people, and I don’t know if Forster is gay or not, but you know how in high school, there are a lot of gay guys who will do theatre but can’t act like any other character except for their flamboyant selves?  That’s what I got from Ben Forster.
Another part that was off to us was in Peter’s Denial when the first lady accuses him of being with Jesus.  He grabs her by the throat like he was never taught shit by Christ. “YA GOT THE WRONG MAN LADY!”
We roasted that shit the whole time.  And at the end when Jesus dies Zack was like “Good.”  Then we get to the bows.  There’s no music, just clapping.  They all bow, and then Andrew Lloyd Webber steps up there and says some shit like “Thanks to out live rock band.  We are live!” I didn’t know Andrew Lloyd Webber has never actually had a live band play his music. Hm.  Then, he says some shit that, as Zack said, “just tops it all off.”  Webber awkwardly, (paraphrasing) “I’d like to dedicate this performance to someone who was with me during the creation of Superstar.  If you’re here tonight, Sara...  thank you.”
During the Arena Tour we felt as though we were judging Andrew Lloyd Webber’s eternal fate.  We hated the live performance, but we loved the film more than we hated the live performance.  I remember accidentally calling him Android Lloyd Webber, and then I went “Holy shit, that’s like a statement.  So, even though Webber is a sellout hack now with his reality shows and his halfassed School of Rock, he still created the greatest album ever: Jesus Christ Superstar
While tripping, I created a theory of Tim Minchin, but I’ll touch on that another time.
