happy halloween! have you ever wondered "i wish the war in pacman and the ghostly adventures had more relevance , impact and consequences" . i have . so i made an au where everything goes wrong because of it :Dc

meet my personal magnum opus, The Betrayal AU, which i am now working on with two of my best friends, @s0pmoch1/destinestuff and @oswaldddavis (the latter of whom actually drew the betrayus for this AU in this art post! (he's the unhinged lookin one)) I'll slowwwwwly be revealing the lore and world building we've done across future posts, but to tl;dr : this au branches off of my headcanon that sunny and betrayus were friends, and during the war he basically forces her to work with him , thus leading to her being executed and winding up as a ghost in the nether . it's basically a role-swap "what if" scenario (hence the art of her and Buttler. he's actually alive here!!! what!!) there's no "parents abducted by aliens plot" here, but if you like plots about innocent people being punished for shit they didnt do (lookin at you botbots mutuals/oomfies) , you'll like this :3

Pairing: D-16 &  gn!sparkling!Reader Rating: SFW Summary: headcanons of D-16 taking care of his sparkling :3 Warnings/Tags: Canon divergence, pre-canon, cybertronian reader, fluff, family shenanigans, Orion Pax can be viewed as a second father figure/uncle, angst, and typical family dynamics A/N: ahh!! ty! don't be afraid to interact with me :) and writing this was so fun! I had some help from @skelswritingcorner headcanon about sparklings.  Word Count: 1300+ words 

How you two met 

🟡 It was really funny. 

🟡 Ok, no it wasn't. D-16 could've imagined anything else happening during the cycle, anything but something falling on top of his head while he was taking a stroll around Iacon. 

🟡 It was a weird…mini-bot thingy that looked unordinary. If D-16 had to describe you in a few words, it would be tiny, small, and helpless. 

But…the way your optics online as you took in your surroundings and your big, wide optics stared into his own awoke some protective instinct within him. So, he carefully tucked you in his arms and hurried back to the mines. 

Early dynamics 

🟡 D-16 treated you like you were made out of glass, it didn't help that the dust and other particles around the mines made your systems irritated to the point of crying. 

🟡 Oh Primus, the first time you wailed loudly, every bot starred in his direction as the noises shrieking from his chassis area increased. D-16 had to quickly excuse himself to the showers and hide in there with you to shush you. 

🟡 Overtime, D-16 learned how to tend to your needs and taking care of you became easier with each passing deca-cycle. 

Current Dynamics 

🟡 Who knew a little bot like you who ate little, chirp, scream a bit,  slept a lot, and couldn't walk would be easy to take care of. 

🟡 Oh man, once you've grown enough to stand on your own two pedes, things get harder for D-16 as he now has to keep a closer optic on you at all times. 

🟡 You had a knack for getting into places you shouldn't be in and D-16's spark nearly stopped when he caught you trying to sneak inside of a mining shaft. You were scolded, of course, but that didn't stop you from trying again.

🟡 As tiring as it is to watch over you, D-16 felt it was worth it if it meant seeing your bright smile each time. 

Uncle Pax 

🟡 Ok, so. Remember the incident when D-16 first brought you in? Well, Orion wasn't too far on D-16's tailpipe. When he saw what his best friend brought into the showers, he was…excited?

🟡 "Why are you smiling so-" 

🟡 "Do you realize what you have in your servos right now?! That's a sparkling!" 

🟡 "????"

🟡 "Dude, I read about them and they-" 

🟡 Orion goes into detail about the records he's skimmed about tiny cybertronians who were referred to as sparklings. 

🟡 The old records hypothesize that they were an alternative way to produce bots in large quantities, there were downsides to this method since the bots that came out were…not up to par with being on their own unless someone cared for them. 

🟡 There's a theory that the method was abandoned due to how much time it takes for these sparklings to grow and be a part of society. No one has seen a sparkling since, and those that already grew up from being sparklings are a scarce number. 

🟡 To say Orion was siked that D-16 practically held a living relic in his servos was an understatement, he even proposed to take over caring for the sparkling as their 'sire.' A term, D-16 later learned was the role given to bots who created a close, familial bond with these sparklings. 

🟡 D-16, for some reason, decided to decline Orion's offer but allowed him to help whenever he could 

🟡 And help Orion did. Much to D-16's displeasure of his friend encouraging his sparkling to get into trouble.

🟡 Heading off into the archives together became a pastime for you two. 

🟡 Even if your sire got mad when your uncle almost got caught by the high guards, it was fun clinging to his back as he jumped through hoops to get away from them.

🟡 Keeping you hidden from others was important, but your uncle adding a bit of fun in your life made it bearable when you were kept away from the light of day. 

Affection? 

🟡 D-16 and you will sometimes butt helms as a form of affection, especially after a petty spat.

🟡 Hugs are on the table and D-16 loves embarrassing you with a bear hug, might even make kissy faces until you squeal and pull yourself out of his arms

🟡 All and all, D-16 has physical touch as a love language (helm pats, arm rubs, scooping you up and throwing you in the air, etc). 

Arguments? 

🟡 Speaking of keeping you hidden, you couldn't understand why your sire didn't want others to see you

🟡 You did nothing wrong, but your sire was having none of it.

🟡 "Do you want to be taken away from me and Pax?" 

🟡 Same old excuse did nothing to stop you from sneaking out at night and exploring the streets of Iacon

🟡 Trying to sneak back in was the harder part, because D-16 would already notice your absence and panic. You always have an earful waiting for you when you get back home.

 

🟡🟡🟡 Drabble 1: Bundle of Joy 🟡🟡🟡

"Alright! Time to switch with the night crew, make way everybody!" The command from the captain of the mining crew felt like a blessing. Orion wiped the coolant from his forehelm and glanced around the area, making sure that no one was watching–he made his way towards the exit while every bot spoke among each other. 

Up ahead, a familiar jaundice-eyed mech approaching with something behind his back. 

As the two near each other, a single nod was exchanged before the bundle in D-16's servo was passed off to Orion.

Orion continued walking out of the mines until he reached a safe distance to unwrap the bundle and cooed as your bright (o/c)'s came into view. He wiggled a digit in your face and couldn't stop the smile growing on his dermas as you grasped his digit and giggled. 

"Come on, we have a berth time story with our designations on it."

Orion carefully tucked you in his arm and walked toward the shared quarters. 

  

🟡🟡🟡Drabble 2: Goodbye, for now. 🟡🟡🟡

"Oh? What's this…or rather, who?" 

You shrieked as you were plucked from behind your sire's knelt form. 

"No-! Let them go!" D-16 was quick to lunge for Sentinel and was knocked back by the guards and their weapons. 

"Ah ha! So this was the little relic I've been hearing so much about?" Sentinel held you up by the back of your neck cables and rotated you like some sort of spectacle."I remember when you guys existed, a shame I'll have no use for you, but my wall is missing a new mount…" 

"You monster!" B-127 shouted as he attempted to stand but was also shoved to the ground by a weapon. 

Sentinel was about to say some witty remark when a large shadow pounced on him. Chaos erupted as D-16 tackled the false Prime and began raining his fists on Sentinel. The guards all came to Sentinel's aid, which gave Bee enough time to break free, slice down a guard that tried taking you and scooped you up from the ground. 

"Hey little dude, everything's ok, ok-?" Bee bounced you in his arms as the tears on your face continued forming at the edge of your optics. Where was your sire? 

A loud crash caught your and Bee's attention as the two whipped helms as a large hole appeared in the wall of Sentinel's office. Your sire and Sentinel were nowhere to be found. 

"Ok…let's go help Dee!" Bee glanced around the damaged space before running out.

Everything happened way too fast for your little processor to make anything make sense. In one second, your sire's friend—and practically your secondary sire—was falling in a hole, then your sire…did something bad but B-127 covered your optics before you could see what happened, and then you were carried toward the dome's roof staring at the unfamiliar mech before you.

"Go…Take the high guard and leave, you are banished from Iacon." Optimus Prime paused, his optics flickering toward the trio slowly approaching. Elita-1, B-127, and…you. 

"It didn't have to end this way," Optimus returned his gaze to his former friend. 

"...this isn't over, Prime." Megatron seethed. 

The two momentarily paused as your small voice called out to your sire. Megatron's optics dimmed as he lowered his helm, a tense silence followed before Megatron finally raised his helm and spoke, "Keep the liability with you, I don't have room for any weaknesses. Not anymore." 

"..." Optimus Prime refused to speak, fearing that his voice would've matched the growing pain in his spark. 

Megatron huffed before limping away and commanding the high guard to follow him. 

B-127 grunted as you wiggled and trashed in his hold, trying to get to your sire and-

Your teary gaze watched in shock as your sire, your only family, your world up and left you behind. Your fans kicked in as you lost the ability to breathe, your vision grew blurry as the wails in your intake were stomped by the lump causing a croaked sob to leave you. 

You buried your faceplate in the B-127's chassis. 

B-127 and Elita-1 shared a glance, one twisted with pain for the crying sparkling and the other hesitation. B-127 turned to look at the new Prime and found he had already made his way over and reached for you. 

B-127 handed you off to the larger mech and Optimus rubbed your back, shushing and whispering comforting words in your audial. 

"We…have a lot of work to do, for now, we all deserve a rest." Optimus murmured to the other two. Elita-1 already understood Optimus's hidden intention and took charge as she directed her attention to the awaiting crowd of bots. 

B-127 glanced between Elita-1 and Optimus before joining Elita. Optimus turned his attention to you.

"Do not worry, little one, I'm here." Optimus reassured. "I will not leave you, not now, not ever." 

"...promise?" 

Optimus smiled for the first time since he came back from being offline. 

"I promise."

great post bestie !!! too bad you made it in the vicinity of someone whos is completely DERANGED about 2 of the characters you're talking about here. CRACKS KNUCKLES.

its not JUST about this either (though you DID hit the nail on the head), it's about ALL of them being utterly fucking SCARED. they've never actually Properly Met besides when Pac went to the past, so can you imagine THE EXPECTATIONS they're all holding themselves to ? the PRESSURE is ON them, all 3 of them.

Pac doesn't want to disappoint his own folks with the person HE is, and neither do THEY wanna let HIM down because he's heard SO much about them, and what if... they're just.. not what he expected them to be?

And not only that, but it's been YEARS. over a DECADE (at LEAST 16 years if you're like me and tried to do the math years ago with a friend on amino using headcanons <3).. They've changed. All of them have. Especially if we're going with the theory that Sunny and Zac are being held captive by the Pointyheads. When they finally stop to reflect, at least one of them is going to be anxious because what if they're no longer recognisable from the people they were? What if they're not believed? What if everyone they knew and loved turned their back on them because they changed too much? (I choose to believe this is sunny btw. Zac is the voice of reason, but honestly he's equally as anxious.)

They're traumatised, they're scared, they probably look and act a little different,

and then they're thrust into a situation that honestly doesn't fucking seem real.

And it is.

And the three of them can all finally rest. and put their guards down. and cry, and embrace each other for the first time. for the first actual time.

They have a lot of catching up to do. But i dont think they mind one bit.

What’s your approach on pac finally meeting his folks

Man. Pac's reunion with his parents. That's a scene that I think we've all been waiting and hoping for.

The entire show gave it so much build-up and anticipation, it's such a disappointment that we didn't get to see it happen (for real) before the show stopped.

My approach would be to follow through on that build-up and write a reunion that gives it justice. Give it a deep and emotional impact, not too light-hearted but not too sappy either, at least not in a way that strips the scene of its believability and impact.

There are so many ways I could approach their reunion. So much so that I'll be open to changes and tweaks in order to polish it as much as possible. But if I ever get to a point of opportunity, then this is how I imagine it to go...

For his whole life, Pac has long hoped to one day be together with his parents again. The mystery behind their disappearance has haunted him for as long as he could remember. While he never got closure on WHY they vanished, he inevitably got to a point where he's accepted that they are gone and won't return. Essentially, he lost hope. But his world was thrown upside down when he found out that they could in fact still be alive, and may be held prisoner on an alien world.

Since then, his hope has been rekindled...but it almost got snuffed out by the clones-incident. Try to be in Pac's shoes; for a long time he's never gotten closure on his parents' disappearance and believed that they were dead, then he was told that they're actually still alive, and then out of the blue they 'return' and Pac felt the happiest he's ever been...until his hope was brutally crushed when it was revealed that his 'parents' were just Dr B's clones meant to fool him into jeopardising the Tree of Life.

I'd imagine that Pac got trust issues out of the incident. Not in terms of trusting people, but by putting his trust in 'hope,' because all that hope has gotten him was deception and a broken heart.

And because of this, when the time came for Pac to truly reunite with his parents... he was terrified.

He was scared over the possibility of it just being another stunt, another case of false hope. He may even think it was just a dream, or a nightmare in the making, because he was too scared to allow himself the liberty to believe that he finally had his family back.

In many ways, the same can be said for Zac and Sunny. Two souls who have been isolated from their kind for unprecedented years, enduring who-knows-what horrors in their time as prisoners on Pointyhead Planet, wanting nothing more than to be back home with their son.

So, for both sides, it's a moment of truth...

But as soon as the first step was made, when the first hug was embraced, all of their doubts and fears sizzled away.

When Pac was in their arms, letting it all sink in, tears streamed down his face.

And for the first time in a long time, he no longer had false hope.

He had his family.

kep report card for october. how is he already almost a year old tf.

Leash Walking: 🟡/🔴 on a martingale collar he walks ok, though does need frequent corrections to remind him not to pull. on a harness he's much more pully and bruised the shit out of my hand recently. does a lot better when i'm walking him alone but i cant really do that much due to time limits.

Manners - People: 🟢/🟡 very good, just still working on not jumping on ppl.

Manners - Dogs: 🟢 no complaints, social butterfly.

Manners - Home: 🟡 gotten better about countersurfing but having some regression on settling in the house. and, of course. the piss.

Manners - Public Spaces: 🟢/🟡 will try to mark if i'm not watching him carefully but otherwise no complaints

Grooming: 🟡 fine if there's food, incredibly squirmy if there's not. need to work on weaning off food and tolerating restraint, since at some point he'll need to go to a real groomer.

Recall: 🟢/🟡 if i call him off a distraction he often comes immediately, but when we're just like chilling at home it's 50/50.

Crating: 🟢 whines a bit sometimes but gets over it eventually.

Fear/Anxiety: 🟢 no issues lately

Volume: 🟢 he really only barks when hes very excited (e.g. playing with other dogs, visitors have come over) otherwise he's blissfully silent.

Puberty: 🟡 LITTLE PISS BOY TAKING A PISS.

overall good, really the biggest problems we're working on right now is just that he's a large, strong, energetic dog who is still too baby-brain to have a lot of self control. i also dont think it's coincidental that these problems are arising as i'm coming off basically 2 straight months of very hectic work/personal stuff and have been very tired as a result. when we really focus together he does good (see: CGC acquisition) it's just getting that to translate to "ok now do this by default" that's the speedbump, but again, teenage dog and the expectations are low.

stellina i remember really dove straight into adolesence around 5 months old and that didn't stop until she was like 20-22 months. kep it seems like didn't quite go Full Stupid until like 9-10 months so we'll see if it lasts the same amount of time, though i'm really hoping not.

🟠 Orange- What is a trait your OC hides about themself from others? Do they refuse to acknowledge it or begrudgingly accept it?

For Bright they kinda have a lot of things about themselves they don't like and try to hide from others

I'd say the most obvious one is their phobia, they really don't like talking about it or showing a lot of weakness or vulnerability in general

The only reason they are okay with Sun babying them sometimes is because they've known each other for a long time and Bright knows that is how Sun interacts with everyone he cares about, he tends to be overly protective and worrisome

🟡 Yellow- What is something your OC wants but knows they can never have? How does it feel to never get this specific desire?

Hohoho this is a super interesting one

I would say this gets into some serious spoiler territory but I will say if she could remember and if she was still alive her biggest desire would have been to be there for both Sun and Moon, to have a happy family, all 4 of them

I think if she met Moon as he is now she would have deeply regretted not being there for him

🟢 Green- What is considered a weakness in your OC that is actually a strength? What is a strength in your character that can be twisted into a weakness?

Ooooo ok this is a bit of a toughie

I'd say for y/n I'd say it's their empathy, they are the type to tuck their stuffed animals into bed and cry when spiders are killed

bit of a softy they are

I think its both their biggest strength and weakness considering it both saves and kills them depending on the timeline

Mad scientist Moon it would be his will to survive

It's kept him alive this long, but it also requires the sacrifice of another, potentially the consumption of others

He doesn't want to hurt anyone but if he is going to survive he will need to

🔵 Blue- How would your OC spend a single day of interrupted peace? Where would they go or who would they be with?

For mad scientist Sun, there's a single bench on a secluded corner of campus near a dead tree that he goes to when he needs a moment or a breather

Its at the top of a hill and overlooks the surrounding city, during the late afternoons it gives the best view of the sunset

Sun doesn't get days off, he becomes more stressed when he isn't doing anything than when he's working on something

But in moments he allows himself a break, he likes to go to this spot, maybe bring a cup of hot tea or coffee, just watch as the world passes by

He's brought Y/N up there a few times, it's a beautiful peaceful spot

⚪️ White- When was a moment in your OC's life that they felt the most vulnerable and exposed? Were they alone or surrounded?

Don't wanna spoil it for you but let just say its the moments after the incident

**spoilers for chapter 12 of Under the Surface**

Moon oddly enough wasn't super emotionally messed up about killing Bonnie initially, he didn't know the guy and didn't like him

It was the moments after that kill him, the choices he made after he killed Bonnie that eat away at him and weigh on his conscience

I will say that Moon made some bad decisions

For Bright this moment is coming up actually and will happen later in the fic

It's not a super big spoiler but I don't wanna reveal it before it happens cause it's a fun wholesome scene

For Sun, back in college he was able to land the lead role in the musical play they put on, he had mainly played cooky side characters before this, so this was the first time he was really acknowledged for his skills

Of course he hasn't landed a lead role since and has kind of given up on theater, but he still holds that moment close to his heart

For both they also consider landing the other a really big achievement pfptpfp

I'd say it's the fact that he's actually quite perceptive

He notices when Y/N is stressed or when some people poke and prod him and he's pretty good at reading those who intend him harm or only want to help

This ends up being an issue for Y/N in the bad Moon ending since he knows that Y/N wants to leave but doesn't want them to. Some of the things that seem like accidents in that ending are actually on purpose

Second Monthly Puppy Report Card for Kelpie!

Kelpie’s progress from 3 – 4months. She turned 4 months old a few days ago. Disclaimer, be prepared for these to contain Too Many Notes because that's just how I am. Categories subject to be added to or change as she matures and things become more or less relevant.

Food (drive, appetite, sensitivity): 🟢/🟡 - Food drive has improved, she’s gotten less picky about treats, will lose interest in lower value treats in overwhelming environments but I find this reasonable and helpful information re:her mental state in any given context, especially because at this point she will still take high value foods in those contexts if I need her to. She’s gotten a little less obsessive about burying chews she doesn’t eat right away, and does better about actually starting to eat them right away when I offer them, I think just because her mouth is getting bigger and her jaws stronger so larger chews are easier for her to work on than they were when she was smaller haha. Her appetite is still great, she always eats her meals with zero issues and loves to eat. No resource guarding either (I do preventative training for this with all my puppies regardless of if they show inclinations for resource guarding,) she’s a good and easy-going girl. Unfortunately still seems to get some tummy upset semi-frequently/intermittently, I thought she was maybe getting better about this but now I’m not sure. Just finished transitioning her to a new food though and have her on a course of probiotics now so we’ll see.

Toys: 🟢 - Still great, very playful puppy with good toy drive. She loves her toys and playing with them with us, with the other dogs, or (though it’s her least preferred style) by herself. I’ve continued reinforcing her awesome natural retrieve and she’s even more focused with it now. Toy skills are getting more refined in general, I have received less accidental hand bites this month lol. We’ve been working on playing tug/fetch with me alongside the other dogs while they're also playing tug/fetch with me with their own toys (parallel play,) and she’s getting better about staying on her own toy instead of trying to grab theirs. Outside the context of playing with me (when they are playing on their own,) with consistent management/referee-ing from me, Kelpie has also convinced Juni that sometimes, mutual games of keep-away with toys, and dog vs. dog tug are fun games, and Juni will actually usually happily engage in this now (instead of where it started, where Juni would get kinda upset after she successfully snags the toy from Kelpie and Kelpie tries to continue the game by trying to take it back) and I’m really happy about that because I think it’s helpful for Juni’s resource guarding feelings! Maple still doesn’t really want to share her toys with the puppy (she only wants to play tug with humans) and so I’m still having to intervene there sometimes, but that’s ok, Kelpie’s still learning.

Sleeping: 🟢 - Still doing great overnight, settles easily when it’s time for bed and can easily sleep for 6-8 hours in the crate/pen in our bedroom at night. She has definitely improved at sleeping “overnight” during the day too (my partner usually sleeps more during the night hours, I sleep more during the morning/day hours); she settles nicely and can usually pretty consistently go for at least 4 hours at a time before waking and wanting to go out, sometimes as much as 5-6 hours, but occasionally (if her tummy is upset especially, so I don’t blame her,) she’ll wake and ask to go out after 2-3 hours during the day. As for napping during wake cycle hours, she’s improved there as well, she seems less bothered by it not being dark while she’s trying to sleep. Sometimes still fights her sleepiness a bit, but has improved there too.

Crating/separation: 🟢 - Have done some more actual crate training, not just pens, and recently (over the past week or less I think?) started actually crating her at bedtime and when we leave the house, not just penning her. She’s done wonderfully there and transitioned practically seamlessly to sleeping in her crate vs. the pen, absolutely no complaints there. Still doing great and settles nicely when I leave her in her crate/pen in our bedroom when we leave the house, have successfully been able to leave her home for ~4 hours at a time with no issues, I think the longest we did was 5 hours. I always give her a frozen stuffed snack when leaving the house and she does great with that, eats it and then goes right to sleep until I get back. That said, if I’m home and around her while she’s confined to her pen in the family room area, she still sometimes gets FOMO and will whine/yap if she thinks we’re there and “available” but not letting her be involved...I actually think in some ways she is a little worse with this than she was a month ago, simply because as she’s gotten more reliable with potty training and house manners, she’s been given a lot more free roaming time in general and so she’ll sometimes be upset when she can’t have it...so I think we’re just in an adjustment period because of that. If given a chew or frozen stuffed snack in her pen she will happily entertain herself while she has it though. And if she knows we’re not available she will typically entertain herself with her toys or nap in her pen just fine.

Potty training: 🟢 - Doing really well! At this point I think she pretty much has it down and understands completely. We almost never have accidents in the house anymore, and she has never had an accident in her crate or in her pen in our bedroom. She does pretty dang well at letting us know when she needs to go, and is also just physically getting better at holding it for longer periods of time and being aware of her bodily functions so it sneaks up on her less. Just the other day, she was in the middle of wrestling with Juni, I wasn’t even in the room with them, and she stopped and rang the bells at the back door to ask to go out, and stayed disengaged from play with Juni while I came over to take her out, sitting nicely at the door and ringing the bells again (even while Juni was trying to continue engaging her in play!) which was huge for her since play with Juni has historically been very distracting for her! She did her business then came right back inside to play some more. I was so proud of her! That said, the same day later on she did have an accident for the first time in awhile, I either missed her letting me know, or it snuck up on her after she had drank a bunch of water and it was Too Late? Win some, lose some I guess. But she is definitely doing great with potty training over all, becoming very trustworthy with it in all areas of the house, so long as I am doing my job well enough of paying attention to her communicating her needs.

General training: 🟢 - She’s doing well! Her focus and attention span are both up, she’s doing better at generalizing behaviors in different environments, and I’m pretty happy with where we’re at regarding both engagement and foundational skills/handling etc., and specific behaviors. She is now pretty fluent in a handful of cues, and getting there with others. And she’s really seeming to enjoy and value training sessions with me. I’ve worked hard to keep training fun for both of us, and I’m feeling more encouraged by seeing the rewards for that now. I feel like now that we’ve built up solid value in training in general, things are only going to get even better from here. I’m excited to start working on various little fun tricks with her now that she’s developing more of an attention span for it! Our working relationship has definitely improved, and our language of communication with each other has also improved even more over the past month and I am proud of how that’s going! She’s a smart puppy and a good girl!

Recall/Off-leash skills: 🟢 - Still doing great here, admittedly I still haven’t introduced a formal/emergency recall cue and have just been doing the puppy call, her name, and various casual communication cues (“let’s go,” “this way,” “time to go inside” etc.) and introducing her to whistle cues by practicing with Maple and Juni. She’s doing really well with those, so far the puppy call has yet to fail for me haha. She’s getting reinforced heavily for all forms of recall and checking in on her own, and is doing well with that.

Leash walking: 🟢/🟡 - I have actually started working on loose leash walking in earnest now, and she has picked it up quite well! Not perfect, she will pull if she’s excited or trying to get to the Right Spot for going to the bathroom, but she’s mostly walking pretty nicely with me and paying attention to moving with me on leash. She still has that nice natural heel position which she likes to be in a lot and I am rewarding that as much as I can. She has however started a habit of occasionally going into Insane Zoomies Mode while out walking on leash with me, where she will try and break into a sprint (hitting the end of her leash and flipping around backwards thank goodness she’s on a harness when doing this), zoom around me in a circle and flop down on the ground playfully at me. It is very cute but also not...great for polite leash walking lol. She’s just a puppy tho and I am not concerned this is a habit she’ll keep up with as an adult.

Biting: 🟡 - Getting better! Not biting quite as hard though it still hurts, and she’s not going into bitey shark mode as much anymore, and is getting better at checking herself when she does. That said, she is still a shark. And she is teething (started losing teeth right about 16 weeks old) and I think we’re starting to see a bit of a resurgence in hard biting because of it, so wish us luck.

Manners: 🟢/🟡 - I have also started working more on manners with her as she’s getting bigger, and she’s doing fairly well with it. Jumping up on people less, being more patient about door boundaries, a little less frustration barking in general, etc. She is however teething and will chew inappropriate objects, so I have to be careful what I leave in her reach or supervise well. She still has a strong Mischief Mode, but is responding fairly well when I ask her to stop fucking with something! She is still testing out table/counter surfing, though she’s yet to successfully get any food doing that (I am crossing all my fingers and toes that my friends and family can be vigilant enough not to leave their stuff in her reach...I have the eerie feeling that she will be particularly difficult to break the habit of counter surfing if she is even remotely/occasionally successful in getting Good Stuff by doing it.) She is learning “off” and we’re working on her staying with feet on the floor in the kitchen. She’s not there yet but again, I’m intentionally not being super strict with teaching manners, so I am not unhappy with how she’s doing at this point, and I know she’ll get there.

Grooming: 🟢 - Doing awesome here. She stands nicely for brushing or being wiped down when she gets muddy or slobbery (thanks, Juni.) I’ve done a lot of conditioning training with the bath tub so she literally runs to the tub to ask to get in, and will sometimes scratch at the door asking for a bath training session! I gave her her first “real” bath (shampooing her whole body, not just rinsing and “scrubbing” her with water) and she did well with that, the only part she didn’t like was having her head and feet scrubbed while she was trying to lick treats, but we’ll work on that. She’s also fully doing cooperative care for her nail trims now!! Proud of her.

Car rides: 🟢 - Still rides great in the car so long as she is contained in some way. No carsickness. Likes to look out the windows, and gets sleepy in my lap and cuddles and naps while we’re in the car. Getting a bit big to ride in my lap so she’ll have to ride more in the back seat hammock soon, but. I like holding her ; w;

Outings/socialization: 🟢 - Still curious and pretty confident, and a little less overwhelmed/overstimulated by exciting environments. Once, she did have a few days where she was getting spooked when she heard dogs barking from behind fences at us, but she got over it pretty quickly! Pretty much everything else she’s taken in with happy curiosity or thoughtful observation.

Dogs: 🟢/🟡 - About the same. She loves other dogs and playing with them, almost too much. She has definitely improved re:focusing around Maple and Juni! But she’s still pretty enamored with wrestling with Juni any chance she gets if I’m not doing something else directly engaging with her. And she still can get too excited and too rough while playing sometimes and have problems listening to milder corrections from the other dogs, so I do still have to supervise their play a lot. Maple gets pretty annoyed with the puppy being too bitey or bulldozer-y, and although she is very patient with her all things considered, I don’t want her to have to put up with Kelpie being obnoxious and feel like she has to escalate to have her space respected, that wouldn’t be fair to her...so I try to intervene to enforce Maple’s boundaries pretty much as soon as Maple says she’s done. I want to say there has been some improvement here re:respecting other dogs’ boundaries (indeed, she met a Scary Mean Dog and while she quickly figured out to not mess with him, she developed no fear of him and coexists nicely around him!), but we’ve still got a ways to go.

Humans: 🟢 - Again about the same. She is a good, easy-going friendly puppy who’s happy to meet people, but not egregiously excited about people we see in public if they don’t engage with her. I didn’t go to any crowded locations with her this month so I can’t comment on how she’s feeling about those environments in contrast to last month. I’d like to do more outings in more public environments to work on her manners, and see where she’s at re:calmness and focus in public environments and what we need to work on there.

Cats: 🟢/🟡 - She has continued to improve in respecting the cats’ boundaries, but she’s definitely not perfect--if she’s feeling excited and playful and feisty, she will still sort of harass the cats sometimes, play-bowing and barking at them from a “respectful” distance while they hiss at her. That’s an annoying habit I’d like to break, it’s rude! But alas, she’s just being a puppy.

Small animals: 🟢 - No complaints here, she likes to watch, stalk, and chase critters, but isn’t obsessive about it. Watching her stalk a butterfly the other day was very cute.

Bonding/affection: 🟢 - We’ve continued to bond over the past month, and her handler focus is increasing! As I mentioned under general training, our language of communication with each other has continued to improve a lot too and I’m happy with how well we can communicate with each other. She’s a really sweet puppy and enjoys affection even when she’s riled up and playful. She still gives hugs, enjoys being held and will sit in your lap while chewing or playing with her toys. That said, she’s still full of the puppy crazies though, and as she’s been given more free reign of the house now that she’s getting more trustworthy re:potty training and house manners, I feel like I’ve not gotten as many chill snuggles with her recently because everything is so interesting and fun and she doesn’t want to slow down and cuddle, she wants to Do Things! If I catch her in a sleepy enough mood she is an excellent cuddler, and I hope to see more of that as the novelty of being a Big Dog who gets to be loose in the house wears off.

Overall grade 🟢, Kelpie is a good puppy with no major issues, she is fun, playful, sweet, and clever. We’re getting into more of a groove together and I’m currently feeling pretty optimistic about how she’s turning out. I’m pretty happy with her progress so far, and her trajectory in improving in all these categories has me feeling hopeful for further improvement as she matures. She’s a good girl and I love her!
