what do you think toshiro's version of laios would've been like if he was still with the group during the shapeshifter shenanigans

there have been a few speculations in the tag and among the fans and they are all very good SO i am going to take this opportunity to insert a bit of my shipping bias as i like in my interpretation LMAO agdsfgdfgv

i noted that in actuality shuro seems to have a very good grasp on laios' character??? this is most obvious in the manga later on but even seeing how he criticises laios in their fight... iirc nothing he says is actually untrue or wildly exaggerated, and while he does express frustration over something he feels like laios Should have control over (noticing his cues), he is also aware that laios isnt being malicious and that hes Just Like That. what i mean to say is that while i think his version of laios may seem more pushy and in-your-face, i dont think it will be overwhelmingly so. if its post-fight, i think the idea of laios (and marcille) being willing to do anything to get falin back made a big impression on him, as well as the idea that they need to eat and rest in order to succeed in their goals, so those aspects would be prominent in his version. he seems pretty observant, so i think for the most part the physical traits would line up, but i think there would be specific things that stand out to him that would appear strangely striking on his version of laios (like. idk something about his eye colour or the subtle contrast of his armour and chainmail. he seems to have a weird sense of aesthetics if extras are anything to go by lmao). if hed actually been paying attention all those times laios had gone on about what the hell ever, then it might be even MORE hard to tell apart his version since he would also have a good grasp on what laios should know. so either his version of laios is pretty difficult to pick out, OR despite the character being accurate his appearance is too. stylised lmao (exaggerated features or something) OR!! they just get him to pull out his monster gourmet guide thing and are able to tell from there. iirc everyone was surprised at its appearance so its possible toshiro had also never seen it before

IN MY IMAGINARY SHIPPING SCENARIO............ lets say that his laios isnt able to be picked out immediately and that the monster guide thing also doesnt immediately occur to anyone. what the real laios Specifically notices is how close this other laios keeps getting to shuro. and hes like. ??? why is he getting so close to him, theres no way i get that close to him??? but no one else seems to be picking up on it as weird, so hes having a small crisis like do i REALLY get that close to him???? and now that hes on the outside he notices shuro subtly leaning away and he feels both a wave of shame and..... protectiveness??? (JEALOUSY??????) and he immediately steps in and grabs him like Hey!!! cant you see hes uncomfortable???? weve been through this already!!! and like. ok i cant believe im doing this again but i need to separate this into different endings

a) the whump route: i dont think shuro ever envisioned Actually Telling laios about his frustrations outside of being basically cornered into it. has he ever spoken up against what was expected of him?? has he ever been confrontational???? i think part of what held him back from expressing his frustrations, along with the cultural norms, could be fear of what the reaction would be. if he had done the same in any other aspect of his life (his family, his inheritance), i think he would expect disappointment, disapproval, more proof that he doesnt add up to expectation. to be honest i dont think he Truly believes that laios is the type of person to react like this. but it was strong enough to prevent him from acting and i think would be projected onto his image of laios. maybe fake!laios says something dismissive like Well if it really bothered him hed say something right? what, he cant even stand up for himself? cmon, shuro, prove that you cant handle it just like everything else. and thats pretty much the fastest giveaway that it isnt really laios. of course this would be a HUGE tonal departure from what the actual episode/chapter was, so:

b) the dumbass route: both laioses break into fisticuffs, and, yes.... barking. and so they speedrun the entire encounter as the shapeshifters true form appears and, after laios points out that thinking too hard about others versions of you can tear apart groups and peace of mind, they pointedly do not speak of it again. they think about it though. a LOT

c) the normal route: both laioses argue normal like and the group ends up being able to tell them apart because the fake laios goes on a little too long about how theyre all here for falin and everyones like ok its not like he DOESNT love his sister but.......... the rest of the scenario probably goes like canon, though then i would want to see what everyone Else thought of shuro

I HAD NO IDEA THIS COULD HAPPEN!

So many people interacting on my twitter I feel a bit overwhelmed so...HI GUYS HOW ARE YA?? XD

So like, after doing this I think in the possibility of Fiddleford interacting with some of the other Stans of a different era so...yeah.

I'm not gonna make this a long (lier btch) thing bc 1, my brain is tired and 2 out of much ideas BUT I still want to write this idea I have.

Scenario: Fidds it's feeling tired, he was working to much, even more with the appear of all this Stanleys because of the new copy machine he and Ford made. And sure, the other Stans noticed the tiredness of the farm man, specially one with a colorfull Red and purple suit. Even with all the inner toughs that are troubling the con man, he tries to offer help…at least a bit.

Fidds is on his way to his room, his hair messy and with some eyeshadowns below his eyes, he worked for a couple of days with Ford about how they can return the efect of the machine bc this one alike the photocopy cannot erase the clones via water. Ford excused this because "any time he slipped and dropped some of his coffee on the clones he made of himself the clone dropped down" but then understood that yeah, maybe that would be more convenient than just not being able to erase them when no longer needed.

while opening the door of his room he can remenber well how Stanley make his way to him, talking in a nervious voice and trembling hands how when "looking" at the machine all these clones of himself came out one be one and he had no idea how to stop it but break it, now he was out, sended be Ford to look at replacements to fix the machine and meanwhile figure out how to return all Stanleys to their era, or just get rid of them.

He lays on his bed, leaving a tired sigh, hands on his stomac looking at the ceiling.

He was about to close his eyes and get some sleep but them he hears a knock from the door, it sounds soft, almost like if the person on the other side was doubting to do it and that coughs the attentions of Fiddleford, who with a groan stands up from his bed and walks to the door, opening it and meeting with one of the Stans, the one that tried to sell him some "rip-offs", leaning on the corner of the door and looking at his side, a bit unconfortable with his hand on the neck of his shirt.

"You...eh...you ok?"

It was kind of surprising see the man that talked to him with such a confident and even a bit cocky attitude talking with him with such a low, almost wipered voice. but sure Fiddleford noticed the unconford and tension in it and he could only think than damn, sinse many time Stan felt that inconfort to even get a bit close to anyone? to feel like he could be in danger if he made a step foard and just...show he cared?

"yeah, I'm ok, just...a bit tire' is all..."

There is an akward silence after that, none of them seemed to dare to talk, one because of the insecurity and doubt of keep talking and the other because of the fatigue he felt.

Fiddleford was about to talk again when some words that that Stankey said shutted his mouth.

"Want a massage?"

"what now?"

"that if you- agh....that if you want a massage...you are here because of me isn't it?...Can I...help a bit?"

That sure is...a proposition. A massage? at the mention of the offer Fiddleford could feel even more the pain on his back and shoulders, his body craving for relaxation and rest after so much work.

He is about to answer when his mind stops in track because the one who is asking him for it is Stanley but not his Stanley, it would be ok to allow this "stranger" aproach to him? even if it was for something so maybe odd or maybe simple thing as a massage?

Yes to both, like...I truly don't know what the specific complaints are which makes it hard to have any meaningful commentary other than "...this seems good, actually?" but one person did pin it on the cast being American and uh, as a Jewish American myself, yeah, don't love that implication that the cast or, you know, the entire country, is religiously a monolith.

But yeah! There have been tons of examples in the past of the cast showing a lot of range in how their characters interact with the gods and they've said a lot of great things both in-game and on Talks or on 4SD. Ultimately, one's personal religious background doesn't really matter; what matters is that you have some sort of understanding of world religion. The fact that Taliesin's talked about drawing from east Asian tradition for Caduceus's practice, or that Liam's talked about being a non-Catholic at a Catholic school who's thought about his own personal beliefs is far more important than like, having people of any specific background.

And more generally like...I don't think you need to be able to explain why you do or don't personally enjoy how the cast is handling something or why you like/dislike things, but if you're going to make a blanket statement it is actually very valuable to have that explanation, both because this one truly has me like "so...what are you looking for, then, because I don't see any issue" and because writing out that kind of explanation often helps one eliminate things like the above erasure, since you have to actually sit down and take stock.

I hate to break it to you, but BJ being a Republican is not in any way contradicted by canon.

I think Welcome to Korea implies that he’s not because of the structure of the joke of Frank and Margaret hoping he is. But you can also argue that everything else they said about him was true, because it was literally his resume. And the reason I think BJ is “most likely” to be a Republican is his background.

This is not about who I like, this is about me being a politics nerd who specifically studied the mid twentieth century a lot. The political parties in the fifties were not what they are now. Liberal Republicans still existed and so did conservative Democrats. A lot of people had party affiliations based on where they lived rather than on ideology. The party alignment we’re familiar with came out of Nixon’s Southern Strategy in the sixties and seventies. I made a joke about fifties California Republicans being Nixon because he was from California and was vice-president but they weren’t all Nixon.

BJ is white and upper-middle class. He also appears to be relatively liberal, although we don’t actually get a lot of clear political positions from him beyond “war is bad.” It is not at all incongruent with canon to suggest BJ could be a liberal Republican in the fifties who becomes a Democrat sometime in the sixties. I could see him going for Kennedy and then sticking around because of civil rights, whatever his pre-1960 voting record was.

I don’t even headcanon BJ as a Republican, I just think it’s possible and he’s more likely than a lot of the others. I do tend to think of him as a Democrat; although I have a hard time seeing him voting for Adlai Stevenson, he definitely wouldn’t vote for Eisenhower.

I wouldn’t even assume Hawkeye was a Democrat if he didn’t explicitly self-identify as one onscreen.

You seem like the transparent one here because I never said anything about hunnihawk in any of my posts tonight. Most of my mash opinions are unrelated to hunnihawk. I also don’t dislike BJ. I find him boring compared to other characters but I don’t dislike him and I certainly wasn’t attacking him. I was just being funny with myself because I like politics.

2 days. i finished this book in 2 days. i expected nothing much. maybe a little comedy. maybe sexy romance. definitely sexy smut. but i didnt expect The Level of drama and romance that led me to finish it from chapter 1 to the epilogue.

the writing was really good. it has a mixture of modern writing with a few figurative languages and imageries that had me gasping and cupping my mouth. it was a nice balance of colourful writing style + easy to understand

the hero and heroine are lovable! hero literally reminds me of those male leads in malay novels: a bastard with a black heart who slowly but deeply falls for the girl. the heroine is so lovable and sweet and i love how she grows as a character. she deserves all the happiness and the heartbreak she felt almost hit close to home (ahah) but that still didnt deter me from enjoying their chemistry

the other characters are so well written. the villain is so hateable yet i can still tolerate him once he redeemed. everyone got a happy ending and im happy hehe

the way chase fell hard for maddie and regretted his poor actions to her felt GOOD. the way he broke down one by one when he was so cocky and arrogant in the first few chapters felt GOOD. the way he bared his heart open for maddie felt GOOD. the way maddie believed he could never love her yet didnt know he is madly in love with her felt GOOD.

there are moments where it felt cringey but in a good kind of cringey. like chase is a bastard but genuinely loves his family and as time goes by falls hard for maddie. like maddie is a human definition of spring who grows from being bullied to standing up for herself. their little silly moments were adorable to balance the angst and drama that happened to them

rating? 10/10 REALLY good book. oh my god
