and i think my biggest/most general complaint that i already talked about that i will briefly touch on: trying to do too much. why are we putting in characters and plot points that do not come till seasons 2-3 and are completely unnecessary now (secret tunnel, wan shi tong, swamp-kinda episode, etc.)

final thoughts?

it was enjoyable. i cannot deny that. landscapes were gorgeous. fights were well choreographed and looked GOOD. some changes were genuinely made for the better, and even changes that i do not necessarily think were better, i could respect the creativity of some changes and understood why they were there. but overall, as most live action remakes go, this was a flat portrayal of one of the greatest pieces of fiction of all time that suffered from some overly ambitious ideas and dull writing with little to no sense of whimsy. while some performances exceeded expectations, others that were crucial to the integrity of this show really disappointed me.

so Ava I feel like is probably just gonna be exactly like Sienna? At least they gave her a little bit of backstory with your Casa boy so it makes sense I guess if you couple with OG boy again and then she has reason to pick Casa boy (although Sienna being bitter and stuck with your Casa boy is fine too), but I dislike she's extra antagonistic towards MC for very little reason other than OG boy but like... you'd think he'd tell her they were just friends and he's gonna pursue MC

like if he saw MC was back during the beach date, why would he pick Ava, who is into him? Like it makes more sense for him to pick a girl he sees as a friend and risk it for MC since he knows she's coming back. Otherwise, they need to have a conversation after stick or twist where he's like hey, I do owe it to her to try this out because i do feel a connection with her (think Lucas and Blake) and then have to grovel to get get MC back, meanwhile Casa boy is also around comforting her. Alternatively, as much as I like Jesse and Eisha getting along, OG boy could've picked Eisha and made it clear they're just friends and you'd get no aggression there. But Jesse is into Ava and she realizes when MC is around that he likes her so that's why she's always angry at MC. Maybe MC confronts her and Ava explains and this is a catalyst for Jesse revealing his feelings(but this does feel repetitive tbh since Sofia does basically the same thing).

I could also see it being a friend date only where you get intel and then in that case maybe the game finally let's you confront Sofia and Tristan but the season already has a lot of that. OR they maximize their joint annoyingness and it's Tristan and Dean. I could also see it being two new bombshells and the blast from the past is actually an unnecessary VIP host like they kept doing in S9.

I think I'll dump all of my thoughts onto one post as we go along...and I have a lot of thoughts so sorry this is gonna be LONG

Firstly, before I start the episode, AAA I'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!! I haven't actually truly rewatched CS in sooo long

Okay, let's go. Why don't we ever talk about the intros? Like the grabbing of the hat and then later that as part of the black and white/red intro sequence? MWAH.

I love this introduction to the entire show. It really makes us feel like we're part of this mystery, investigating this thief with Chase and Julia (until...well...everything gets directly told to us via flashbacks 8 minutes in..). It tells us everything we basically need to know about how Carmen operates in like 30 seconds.

Let's take a moment to appreciate the art style of this show....oh my gosh. The lighting the texturing the lineless agh its so good

I guess I haven't thought about it for a little while, but I guess Chase slamming on the breaks is supposed to fake us out thinking that he has seen Carmen's shadow. It sets up how idiotic of a detective he is, while Julia is observant and actually makes connections. I really like this early (VERY early) setup to how their relationship is going to work. However, at the same time, the show is really gunning for us to root for Julia when she starts infodumping. Chase is clearly the asshole. I can't help but wondering, though, if the show undercuts the importance of Julia's research by IMMEDIATELY cutting away to something "more interesting" (Carmen) as soon as she starts talking. What do you think?

I like how Carmen just shoots out of the alleyway and looks at them for a solid minute. She's just like 👁️👁️ i mean we KNOW it doesn't take her that long to use her grappling hook. She was just watching them

Waking up first thing in the morning and crying at 9am because someone spent all night yelling at me and calling me a stupid cunt and telling me how horrible I am for hours isn't ok. No, I'm not perfect. Nobody is. But I'm pretty goddamn good to you. Regardless of the reprehensible shit you've done to me more times than either of us can count. And I did not deserve that at all. Idk why you'd even want to talk to ANYONE who you believe all those things about. I'm not worth my weight in dirt according to you. Sigh. I'm not trying to fight again. I just realize I'm really not ok today. And last night fucked w me a lot worse than I realized. You haven't spoken to me that way in years. If ever. And it never should've escalated to that, especially not over something so honestly innocuous. i'm not very good at formulating thoughts so imma go ahead and brain dump and sorry but i'm not a writer quite yet so anything of that sort is between me and the 3am demons

ok but trying to unpick my mess of thoughts:

remus and lily reading i'm envisioning checked pyjama bottoms and tea and log fires and chocolate chip cookies whilst they have convinced mary and sirius to go out for the night so they can have a quiet evening to read whilst trying to fit into the same armchair and are covered by the same patchwork blanket. i'm picturing messy tied up hair and eye bags and sprawling limbs as they've grown too much and that pain when you can't read anymore you're so tired but you do anyway. everything is quiet but for the fire and the occasional under-the-breath exclamation until suddenly in the early hours conversation explodes as the two detail every thought and debate every opinion until they wear themselves out and fall asleep on top of each other to be found by mary and sirius a few hours later. books wise they either delve into the depths of dark academia and read the secret history, if we were villains, the picture of dorian gray. they argue for why its valid to love henry and overanalyse metaphors which realistically meant nothing. they gesticulate and bump up and down and say morally grey things in the knowledge that what they say goes no further than that armchair. and/or they read for nostalgia. they share their favourite childhood books and spend the night reading everything from jane austen to the giver to when hitler stole pick rabbit. squealing from the memories as well as melting over the romances. by the end of the night there are too many mugs to count and not a single book comes out without a broken spine and dog eared page. there is writing on every page and there thoughts and feelings and fears are laid bare to each other through the medium of little sideways notes in the margins.

wolfstar stargazing i am unashamed to say is something i can read again and again and again but the setting makes it so much more. imagine the moony sweaters, remus bringing an extra knowing sirius would get cold in his leather jacket, the gloves and hats and gryffindor scarfs which end up unnecessary because they lie so close they keep each other warm. lying on hard wet ground, not thinking to bring a blanket, and so getting damp, with leaves sticking in their hair. walking aimlessly for hours, pads picking remus up when his hip gets sore and running through the open space, both tumbling to the ground when sirius misplaces his foot in the dark. lying where they fall and seeing a perfect sky. new moon so remus is at his best, and is able to stare at sirius' star without the reminder of everything else. shooting stars and cheesy pick up lines late into the night, both laughing and smiling until accidently falling asleep right there.

- You and Charlie were the ones fate chose at VidCon 2019

- By that I mean that you two had by chance sat down next to one another while attending your mutual friends' gaming panel

- Your best friend Mark shouted you out while he was talking about the development of the gaming genre on YouTube and you yelled out your gratitude to him which obviously caught Charlie's attention

- "You're new in the industry?" He asked you in a whisper as Mark continued talking about some other topic

- You were taken aback by the fact that Charlie, Moist Critical/Penguinz0 of all people was talking to you

- Hell, you broke out in a nervous sweat even as you sat down and realized he was your seat neighbor

- To say you were flustered would be an understatement

- "Yeah, um, just doing it on the side while working and figuring out if I wanna go to college." You cringed inwardly at the sorta unnecessary information dump you gave him but he seemed unbothered by it

- His smile charmed you instantly, making you forget all about your embarrassment

- "Welcome to this interesting community." He said, his tone making you giggle, "Stick around after the panel, I could drop some knowledge if you'd like. For this YouTube thing and for college."

- He was the bold one to ask for your number on the last day of VidCon before he had to fly back to Florida and you had to take a roadtrip back home to San Jose

- Of course, you gave it to him

- And yet you still were surprised when he texted you six and a half hours later

- “Hope you had a safe drive and I hope you’re ignoring this if you’re still driving XD”

- That opened the gates for practically non-stop texting and calling/facetiming from that point onward

- You chose to make it official two months after that despite wanting to do so IRL but being prevented by the pandemic that took over

- The long wait was a result of several reasons

- For starters, you wanted to accumulate your own following and not piggyback off of Charlie’s 

- Secondly, you’d be lying if you said you weren’t nervous, both of you were

- Mainly because of the internet’s love for gossip, drama and cancel culture which you knew would be triggered by the age gap of eleven years between you and Charlie

- Neither of you ever noticed the difference in your relationship, but you knew the people on the internet most definitely will and would also make a fuss about 

- And oh boy they did

- Many harsh words were thrown around all over social media

- Accusations of you using Charlie for your personal growth and fame

- Accusations of him using you for popularity 

- Suspicions of your relationship being a publicity stunt

- Assumptions that the relationship started before you were a legal adult

- It was enough to make you and Charlie turn off the router in your apartment and go off the grid up north for two weeks where you’d never felt more secure

- The toll that haters had taken on your relationship was mended in those two weeks

- During those 14 days no one had a say in you relationship nor your feelings other than the two of you and it felt like none of those shitty things even happened

- But you could live in bliss only for so long

- Eventually, you had to return to the less-than-pleasant reality of what you two had stirred up by revealing your romance to the world

- This time around, however, it seemed like a lot of the hate had been turned into acceptance 

- Hell, there was more support than hate now

- There were the statements your friends and fellow streamers made in yours and Charlie’s defense

- Not that you needed defending, you hadn’t done anything wrong but it was nice regardless

- Soon thereafter you both sat down and addressed everything: the start of your relationship, making sure to point out when and how it had started, clarifying it was all legal

- You pointed out the controversy and addressed how disappointed and hurt you both were by the assumptions but made it crystal clear that none of the accusations were true

- Deep down, you and Charlie both knew that no matter what you said or did, people would judge one way or another

- So, instead of looking at it from the downside angle, you turned to the silver lining, living your best life, out of earshot of all the negativity

- What matters is your love for one another - something neither of you have ever had to question

- That’s what made you the power couple you are today and will forever be

Ok the time has come

If you are a diehard Raiden fan or won't take me criticising Genshin for some other reasons, plz skip this post, because It's gonna be one hell of a Rant.

Don't get me wrong, I love Genshin and I'm not planning to quit it or something, but criticism must be given.

And that being said...

GENSHIN 2.1 STORYLINE WAS VERY, VERY BAD

And here's why:

Barely any playable characters were given any depth in this version. They were all treated just like plot devices.

Especially Yae Miko, who was there just to explain everything to our dumbassess and and give us an axcess to the power of ambition and friendsip I guess

Kokomi and Gorou? Nahhh, why give them any actual spotlight, if they were there only to deliever the schocking news that Fatui gave dellusions to the resistance? We might've as well learned that from some random soldier NPC and it would make little to no difference.

Speaking of delusions, don't Kokomi and Gorou fight on the front line? HOW THE HECK did they not notice that all of their visionless soldiers suddenly can use the power of elements? Did everyone hide it from them and everyone actually succeeded? Wasn't Kokomi weired out buy th sudden improvement of the whole resistace? How the heck did none slip up? WHY DIDN'T KOKOMI OR GOROU CHECK OUT THESE "WEAPONS" BEFORE GIVING THEM TO THEIR SOLDIERS? THEY COULD HAVE BEEN BOMBS OR SOMETHING

Also the fact that Kokomi just made us a general without giving us time to get to know how resistance works, or that she would give Teppei promotions just because he asked was extremely stupid. Not a master strategist move for sure. We could be a spy. Kokomi didn't even aknowledge Teppei until he asked her for a promotion.

Overall the whole resistance arc was extremely rushed and basically almost useless. If it was wisely prolonged, this update could be spread between two versions no problem. We could have had more quests where we and Teppei would slowly climb up the ranks, get to know more about Kokomi, ACTUALLY FIND OUT STUFF ABOUT EI AND SCARAMOUCHE INSTEAD OF LETTING YAE INFO-DUMP IT ON US.

Kazuha was ok I guess, but he was given very little screentime, and as my friend (a big Kazuha fangirl, mind you) noticed, that his whole arc revolves around Tomo and he barely has any personality besides grieving his loss, which is dissapointing.

I'd rather see him actualy join the resistance and face Ei not because he randomly appeared to save us, but because he was banished from Inazuma and had the courage to return.

Speaking of random appearances, why were Kazuha and the resistance at Tenshukaku anyway? Like, hear me out: Last time they've seen us alive was when we declared we would find the dellusion factory. So unless Yae told them we were here, they had no right to know (and if she did, how would that help?) And if they ACTUALLY thought that they could raid Tenshukaku, why do that right after their army recieved such a big blow, and with so little men? Besides the fact that Kazuha Conviniently managed to save us, it was all just an unnecessary bloodshed.

And Ei... Oh my god, I'm sorry, but the way they did her was such a mistake.

She basially went through the same thing as Venti and Zhongli, but was the only one to chose violence.

When we tell her that her people are suffering she's like "yeah, I know, so what?" But then we defeat her with what's basically a power of friendship and she's like. "Ok, I'll stop the decree I guess" and in her story quest she suddenly wants the best for her people? Oh no I know you don't.

She could have been the actual victim of The Fatui's plot. Imagine if Sara was actually collaborating with the Fatui and when we told her about them "manipulating" Ei she'd say she's gonna tell her but would actually go to backstab her before she realises the truth. Or if the "you've changed, you're getting weak" line would be what Scaramouche said to Ei after he defeats her.

Or, she could be an ACTUAL villain. The one that isn't forgiven just because she buys some dango milk and pulled a sword out of her boobs. She's a tyrant and there's no denying it. So why didn't she die to get what she desserved? Why didn't she get any actual redemption, or make some sort of sacrifice to show that she wants well for Inazuma after all? She could face the consequences of her wrongdoings and see the death she caused or experience the wrath of the people she hurt but noooo, her people already forgave her and are concerned for her health! But she's just being angsty, so let's go on a peacefull stroll and show her some horny light novel people wrote about her <3 Like come on, really?

Like seriously, if Mihoyo had the guts to actually call her evil, that would barely infulence her popularity. People simp over well-written villains like crazy. Well-written villains rule.

I'm honestly worried about how The Tsaritsa will be handled...

But okay, okay. To lighten up the mood, here are some things that I liked about this update:

Teppei, duh.

Watatsumi Lesbians.

Sara. Oh dear, oh dear, gorgeous. Once again, she proved herself to be an honorable person. We've seen her admit that she was doubtful about the decree. We've seen her world being shattered as she realised what her family did. We've seen her put away her selfless devotion to do what's right. My hot tengu gf, I absolutely love you and your writing so far.

Scaramouche has more interesting backstory and motivations than hid creator. He's the villain we deserve. He has the gnosis and he's yet to cause some drama, so hopefully he fixes this hell of an arc.

Thoma didn't have much screentime, but I like how they touched the topic of how it's hard for him to stay in hiding

Sayu was cute and fit into the story nicely.

ANGRY TRAVELER YES. They spoke. They were pissed. They were traumatized by witnessing Signora's death, even though they hated her. They see that the gods are nothing to mess with, they're changing, they're becpming just like their sibling. YES, YES, YES.

The fact that Raiden somehow "marked" us to attack us when we join the resistance army was cool and relflected her elemental skill really nicely.

Mystic Mystery’s (Chapter One)

Marc Spector X Platonic OC & Steven Grant X Platonic OC

Chapter Summary: Olive succeeds in tracking down the man she’s searching for and also comes to the realization that she may not actually understand the mess she’s thrown herself into.

“You need to believe in yourself. This is your greatest fault.” Stephen Strange chided gently.

A shaking hand brought the alcohol soaked cloth to the teenagers cheek gently swiping the cut on her cheek. Frustrated tears leaked down her face and he brought his other hand to brush them away before the young girl turned her face away. She’d been under Stephen’s care for a couple of months now but was still uncomfortable crying around his or Wong’s presence, something Stephen was still trying to figure out how to deal with.

Accidental Parenting did not come with a handbook.

“It doesn’t work- none of this does. Every spell I do does the exact opposite of what I want. I tried to move a freaking mug and it shattered.” Olive angrily gestured to her cuts and scrapes.

“To be fair- Wong would tell you that moving a mug is, and I quote, ‘Not an appropriate use of the Mystic Arts’” Stephen chuckled trying to ease the tension.

“What would you tell me-“ Olive asked softly.

She turned her head to look back at her teacher and Stephen felt the newfound pull at his heart that had been bugging him lately. His- No. This kid was going to kill him if she kept putting her trust in him.

“I’d tell you that maybe we should consider buying plastic cup’s for you to use if you want to throw them around. Might help to eliminate any unnecessary injuries.” Stephen teased.

Olive hissed as his fingers jerked, jabbing the cloth into her cut.

“Sorry-“ Stephen cursed.

“It’s ok.” Olive responded with a small sigh.

Silence lapsed between the two as Stephen finished cleaning out her cuts and carefully placed bandages over them. Picking up the medical kit he grabbed the used materials to dump into the trash where the shards of the mug had settled in the bottom. He winced as he noticed it was one of Wong’s mugs. Olive would be in it for sure unless he decided to take the blame himself.

He’d been doing that a lot lately because of this kid.

“Do you think I’m actually cut out for this?” Olive asked, “This whole magic mess. I mean- I’m just making problems for you and Wong…”

“Olive.” Stephen said. “We’ve been over this-“

“I know, I know…I just-“

“If I didn’t want to teach you kid, I wouldn’t. But you're improving every day and I can see how hard you're working towards this. Just believe in yourself a bit more ok?” Stephen said.

Olive glanced at her teacher, her insecurities still shining through. She opened her mouth preparing to ask a question before she second guessed herself once more.

“I’m going to brush up on my studies. I’ll be in my room.” Olive said.

She darted out of the room before Stephen had a chance to stop her.

If there was a single word used to describe Olive she’d probably pick ‘Persistent.’

She hadn’t intended on stalking the man- and in Olive’s defense she wouldn’t necessarily label this as ‘stalking.’ She was merely investigating Steven Grant while also hoping to get a hint on where and who Marc Spector really was. If it just so happened she waited until he finished his shift, followed him around London for a short period of time and found out where he lived in the process, well that was just part of the research process, right?

Still, the young girl found herself groaning in frustration as she stood across the street from the apartment building. She supposed she could have used a spell to actually track down Marc Spector, but with every spell performed her own cloaking spell would grow thinner and thinner. She wasn’t ready to admit defeat nor was she ready to face the inevitable rage from Stephen or Wong.

What was she going to do now?

The apartment door across the street slammed open as if answering her thoughts, and she nearly jumped out of her skin with the sudden noise.

The man who walked out of the building was not the same as the one she had seen enter hours ago. Gone was the shifty and awkward Steven Grant and in his place was a confident and hardened man. This was the man that she’d found pictures of, the mercenary she was searching for.

Cold eyes met hers with a piercing gaze that sent a shiver down her spine and Marc Spector strided across the street to her. At the same time she caught movement out of the corner of her eye up on top of the apartment building.

Holy Crap, was that- a bird? No, a skull? No- a bird skull with a body?

“Let me guess- Harrow sent you? Bit of a low for him, sending a kid after me. But I suppose he has followers of all ages.” Marc sighed looking rather disinterested.

“Harrow?” Olive echoed in confusion. “No that’s not-“

“Listen, I’ll apologize in advance but he sent you straight into a trap. He has something I need and something he can’t have. You're just going to have to tell me where it is and I’ll let you go.” Marc said.

Did the man think he’d caught her? Clearly she’d caught him-

Olive glanced between the Mercenary and the bird-man. With every second she found herself wondering if this was the best mission to prove her worth. She could hardly wrap her own head around the past day let alone these past few hours.

“I think we’re both a little confused-“ She interrupted, hands raised in a peaceful gesture.

Marc quirked an eyebrow.

“ This is not one of Harrow’s companions.”

Olive looked up once again as the bird spoke and Marc finally caught on glancing wildly between her and the God.

At least she’d managed to catch him off guard finally.

“You can see Khonshu? What- are you an avatar?“ Marc scoffed.

“Worse- she’s one of those insolent little Sorcerer’s. Calls themselves Masters of the Mystic Arts. What would your magic even be without gifts from the god’s child-“

Oh- so he wasn’t a nice god. Olive found herself rolling her eyes as she often would during one of Stephen’s lectures.

“Listen- I’m not with whoever you mentioned earlier, and your little Canary is right. I’m a Sorcerer studying the Mystic Arts.” Olive explained. “There’s rumors, Marc Spector, of you and that bird-brain interfering with things that are better left untouched. People are seeing things they shouldn’t see and as a Sorcerer, it’s my job to ensure that people are protected from whatever it is you're doing.”

“Canary? You ill-mannered brat-“ Khonshu screamed, wind picking up around them. A garbage bin tipped over and rolled down the road from the sudden gusts.

“If your not going to stop what you're doing I’m afraid I’ll have to use drastic measures to ensure that-“

“I’m sorry- you think that we’re interfering with things?” Marc interrupted.

Oh for goodness sake- was this how Stephen felt whenever she interrupted one of his lectures? No…this would be more like how Wong would feel she imagined.

“I’m out here trying to save the world from a second global catastrophe and-“

It suddenly felt as if a cold bucket of water just get dumped down the back of her neck.

“Do you even know what Harrow’s capable of if he raises Ammit- I’m talking something as bad as ‘The Snap’”

“Don’t!” She recoiled quickly at the words. “Don’t say it-“

Those words would always haunt her for as long as she lived, reminding her of how lonely she became after that day, how unfair the world was-

“Just-“ She took a shaky breath. “Just tell me what’s going on.”

“What’s going on?” Marc gaped.

“You Sorcerer’s think you know everything-“

“Ok- enough from the bird.” Olive growled. “You’re telling me that you're not raising creatures from the dead and having them run amok- exposing a magical suit to the world and making people ask questions?”

“No! That’s exactly what I’m telling you. That’s all Harrow! And he has something far worse that he’s planning on using to find Ammit’s tomb to unleash even worse things on this planet.” Marc argued. “So if we’re done here I’ve got to be on my way to actually solve this problem.”

Sidestepping the young sorceress Marc made his way down the street-lamp lit streets.

“Wait- wait! I’m sorry!” Olive dashed after him.

She was not passing this opportunity up- especially if she had gotten it all wrong.

Thinking back to it, maybe she hadn’t ‘overheard’ enough of the rumor’s that Wong and Stephen had been discussing.

“Kid-“

“I can help!”

“Absolutely not.” Khonshu laughed. “I will not have one of you pesky little-“

“You're going somewhere- where? I can get us there in 5 seconds flat.” Olive pleaded. “I want to help- clearly the rumors started from the man you're talking about, and I believe you! But some people may not… and you don’t want someone more- uh…accomplished in the Mystic Art’s going after you.

“I’m not a babysitter, and I certainly don’t need your help.” Marc rolled his eyes before stopping. “Wait, are you saying you're not even the best these Wizards have?”

“It’s Sorcerer.” Olive frowned. “And I should also mention that I could ensure that you and the Canary get trapped somewhere you would be unable to be freed of, and if I recall my history, Khonshu is in fact exiled from the other God’s so they wouldn’t really want to help-“

Marc glanced at Khonshu, “Is that true?“

Khonshu’s silence was a good enough answer.

“Perfect. So tell me where to take us and we’ll get going!” Olive exclaimed excitedly. “Oh- and maybe you could inform me of who I spoke to earlier…is Steven Grant your brother or?“

“Wonderful- exactly what we needed Marc. Another idiot involved in something they shouldn’t be.” Khonshu growled.
