LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - The family of a man shot and killed in an encounter with police in 2021 are reacting to the recent decision that is calling for the officers return to the Lawton Police Department.
Two separate arbitrators reviewed the firing of Nathan Ronan and Robert Hinkle, who currently face manslaughter charges in the death of Quadry Sanders.
After hearing testimony and reviewing body cam footage, the arbitrators each called for the men to be reinstated onto the police department.
Officials with the City of Lawton expressed displeasure with the arbitration, and said they planned to fight the decision.
Sandersâ family echoed the sentiment, calling the decision a disappointment.
Below is the full statement by the familyâs attorney, Lee Merritt:
Last week City of Lawton officials announced that a panel of arbitrators determined former officers Robert Hinkle and Nathan Ronan should be reinstated to their positions with the Lawton Police Department.
Officers Hinkle and Ronan were terminated and criminally indicted on manslaughter charges for the brutal shooting of unarmed Quadry Sanders. On December 5, 2021, Hinkle and Ronan opened fire on Sanders-- shooting him over 12 times as he desperately attempted to comply with their orders.
National Civil Rights Attorney S. Lee Merritt will host a press conference along with Sandersâ mother, Mina Woods, and other members of the Sanders family. The press conference will take place on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 11:00 AM CST at the Lawton City Hall, 212 SW 9th St, Lawton, OK 73501.
The Sanders family has issued the following statement.
âWe are extremely disappointed in the decision of arbitrators to ratify the criminal actions of the men who murdered Quadry Sanders in cold blood. However, we are relieved and grateful that the City of Lawton is prepared to oppose these unconscionable recommendations by arbitrators.â

Cozy Glow is such an interesting litmus test for die-hard bronies. I was checking r/mlp to prep a post and thereâs a discussion post about how she deserved what she got and. How do I tell bronies that children should not be tried as adults. How do I tell bronies that psychopaths and sociopaths deserve human rights and treatment and support. How do I tell bronies that cruel and unusual punishments are bad. How do I tell bronies that the death penalty is wrong. How do I tell bronies that a ruling body should not have absolute say over putting someone to death, least of all a 6-year-old child.
These are all my recent google searches.
#delete later#personal#these are all arguments I saw of why cozy glow deserved it btw#âif she was human sheâd be tried as an adult for her felonies idc if sheâs a childâ ok but she shouldnât#âclearly sheâs a psychopath so it makes sense sheâs evilâ do you even hear yourself#reminder that they redeemed the racist politician trying to keep schools racial segregated because he believed in pony superiority#and not the 6 year old child villain#I donât even really care about cozy glow sheâs not gonna be in the AU but people are so fucking weird about her#âsome people are just born evil and canât be changedâ < actual arguement in the thread. do you hear yourself

Welcome back to lyssten to my rambles: Natlan Nagging. This isn't necessarily hate, I just wanna address and analyze a notion that I've seen around.
The argument of 'This natlan character design sucks and doesn't fit in Genshin' then the apparent answer to it is 'It's a fantasy game duhh'. I personally disagree, I think it's a shallow response that ignores alot of details.
Yes, genshin is a fantasy game. BUT there are rules that makes up a good fictional world, and that is consistency. Genshin has shit consistency obviously looking at the level of tech between each nation. But it IS consistent when isolated within nations alone.
Mondstadt's theme is traditional Germany. So the city has traditional buildings and no mechanical technology, the NPCs dress traditionally and use simple medieval tools, and the characters all use skills that fit the theme. Take Venti for an example, his design and kit communicates that he is a medieval bard which fits the theme of Mondstadt, seeing him move in Mondstadt amongst its people is not out of place.
So what I'm saying here is 'consistency' means the world, NPCs, and character must be within theme of the nation.
Another example. Sumeru's theme is middle eastern, but more fantasy and technologically advanced. The buildings have grand middle eastern architechture, robots already exists here and NPCs have access to the knowledge/skills/magic to make them, the akasha and related tech are accessible for everyone. Let's take Alhaitham for example, he dresses with Sumerian patterns, his skills looks similarly like the existing akasha technology. He is in theme with the nation and see him walking amongst Sumerian people is not out of place.
So what I mean when Natlan characters doesn't look like they came from Genshin is that they are not in theme with Natlan's established themes. Natlan itself is a jumbled mesh of 20 million cultures, but the general theme they were probably going for is tribal civilizations. (Bear with my generalization)
Take Mualani as a GOOD example of an in theme character:
She came from the People of the Springs. It's a Hawaiian (correct me if I'm wrong) themed location. It looks traditional, sail boat like buildings and huts, no visible mechanical technology, has simple magic mechanisms (spiritwave, koholasaurus). Massive tourism spot (Hawaii influence).
The NPCs are all dressed like how people who live by water would dress. They don't use mechanical tools. They are surfers, fishers, or tour guides. They are all relatively much more happy and kinder to guests since they are in a tourism spot. They all can use spiritwaves and koholasaurus.
Mualani herself dress similarly like her people. Very much extroverted since she is a tour guide. Her skills are pool floaties and a surf board. Her design communicates she is a peppy surfer girl. She can move within the People of the Springs and she does not look out of place. She is in theme.
I can complain about her all I want but when I look at her and watch her move. I see People of the Springs. That's it. I see her and she fits the world and people.
Now take Mavuika as an out of theme character
Since she is an Archon she doesn't have any specific tribe's symbols. So the 'world' she must belong in is Natlan in its entirety, aka tribal civilizations + extra fantasy magic tech. Still the architechture is very traditionally tribal with rough stone houses, huts, and tapestries. There IS mechanical technology but it is used sparringly (DJ booth, weapons the enemies wield, etc). Besides that it's all traditional. And much more emphasis on magic and rituals.
The NPCs while they came from different tribes has the same base of clothing styles with minor differences. They all wear clothes with 'tribal markings'. They all have access to their respective saurian and magic mechanisms. They all have access to the basic tech we've seen. They have access to the 'special magic' too (Like being an ancient name smith (or other important roles isn't JUST for playable characters)
Mavuika doesn't dress like any of them. She doesn't look like she'd fit in with her people, hell she barely fits in with the more exaggerated playable characters. When I look at her I see biker, I don't see Natlanese, I don't see important Natlanese. Her bike doesn't look like it came from any existing technology in Natlan. There's ROBOTS in Natlan and her bike doesn't look like it came from the same design origins.
'Oh Lyss it's because it's her signature thing she created out of her element-' CHASCA'S GUN looks more in theme than Mavuika's bike, it looks like it's made from Natlanese tech.
IN A VACUUM WHERE MAVUIKA ISN'T IN NATLAN she looks sick as hell. In NATLAN she looks like a 5th descender. THE POINT OF THIS ARGUMENT IS NOT THAT SHE IS UGLY, THE POINT IS SHE DOES NOT LOOK LIKE SHE IS FROM NATLAN AND GENSHIN HAS NEVER BROKEN CHARACTER THEME THIS BADLY BEFORE.
'Well archons are supposed to be special cases so they stand out-'
Ei doesn't look like a twitch streamer does she? Zhongli doesn't look like a book store owner in 1990s britain does he? Furina doesn't look like a 2020s Hollywood actor does she? They don't need to break their own theme and culture to stand out.
'Are you saying we cant incorporate X in Y culture at all? That's racist-'
There is a certain deviation from theme that people are willing to tolerate before the immersion break. ESPECIALLY when you use an existing culture as a design reference, people can TELL when it goes overboard. You do NOT mix and match culture without consistensy. Incorporate whatever the hell you want and mesh 20 million cultures all you want. But make the deviation consistent for every aspect. World. NPC. Character.
Because what makes Genshin stands out is the cultural details of its nations and characters. Without it then it's a standard gacha game spewing out whatever random character with insert trendy detail here. And that really upsets me because the cultural design is one of the reasons I stayed in Genshin.
#ok i went off here#please do uh tell me if im being racist or something#im just looking at this through a world building lense and not cultural#i also just think its stupid to excuse inconsistency with 'iTs FaNtAsY'#like... no... worlds dont work like that#lyssten to my rambles

Aite, female character and general inclusivity rant incoming. Hate it and want to make a post? Sure. But give me the respect I gave those who inspired this and donât tag me in it:
People immediately bringing the âfemale characterâ argument into things drives me insane. Like we know sheâs a female character, but trust me, thatâs got very little to do with why people dislike her.
Are some people misogynistic? Absolutely!
Are most people misogynistic? No.
When we talk about Galadriel, and Luthien, and Elwing, and Aredhel, and Nimloth, and Melian, and Nerdanel, and Ahsoka, and Padme, and *insert literally any female character from any fandom here*, being female has nothing to do with it. It barely crosses our minds.
So for the love of all that is good, stop bringing âbut sheâs a female character! Anyone who sees her as anything but perfect, or thinks the male characters made better choices than her is obviously horrible and misogynistic and would never do this to a man :(â Into arguments.
I donât care how few there are in the work. You can explain why you like her without blaming people for hating on the fact sheâs female when 95% donât. There are very literally hundreds of other reasons people interpret fictional events which portray the fem char negatively.
Especially in work like the Silm which is written by a canonical in-universe historian with basic backstory. We have every right to see him as unreliable and play with what that could mean. Doesnât make it misogynistic if we want to see female characters as more shifty than theyâre outwardly portrayed. Many of us often do the same with male characters, and even if we donât, you have no right to judge someone so harshly when you barely know a thing about them outside an online persona. 99.9% of people donât even consider male vs female when they write these things. And itâs not because of some weird subconscious misogyny either.
This is mainly aimed at those who bring this up over. And over. And over again in some weird attempt at guilt tripping people into âlikingâ characters.
On the topic of things people do that make no sense, if characters are stated as being white, and an artist draws them all white. You have no right to say theyâre being racist or whatever else you want to come up with.
Nor do you have the right to slander anyone who casually points out the character is white if others draw them as anything else. If we can call out whitewashing, we can talk about the opposite too. As long as the person isnât being outright rude, have a conversation.
And donât get me started on tagging pieces of fanart and fics specifically created platonic with a ship. Like the work? Great! Now respect the intentions of the person who created it.
No one in a fandom space, especially artists and writers, owes inclusivity of any kind when running off canon source material. You want to blame someone for a boring cast, blame the author! But even in general? You donât get to force or guilt others to create content - original work included - that fits your ideal.
Yes Iâm a writer and artist of original and fan content. Yes Iâve experienced all of these directly or indirectly.
Sincerely, a young brown woman tired of all the double standards.
#silmarillion#lord of the rings#tolkien#Star Wars#tcw#marvel#sorrynotsorry bout the rant#the guilt tripping is insane#fgs if youâd call out someone for whitewashing Iâm sorry they have every right to ask if you make canonically white characters brown#or black or Asian or whatever#itâs not racist to say âthis character isnât canonically xâ ok?#Iâm not talking about people who are outwardly disrespectful but wow some comments I see really make me wonder#donât even get me started on shipping#itâs much better now but wow people gotta *chill*#should I tag characters?#sure letâs do the main ones Iâm thinking of#Elwing#Ahsoka#padme#wanda maximoff#Melian#Fingon#finrod#Maedhros#silm#rant#I am once again sick and apparently that lowers my tolerance for people straight up not understanding what theyâre talking about#or weaponising a sensitive topic to stop people arguing against them#omg how could I forget#luthien

this tweet was about taylor swift but this applies to so many of you I have no more things to count with to explain how many people this applies to
tweet 1: "y'all are having sex with racists instead of killing them with hammers and that's why we're never getting anywhere"
tweet 2: "the poor girl just wanted to bang a dirtbag before settling down like the rest of us in their late 20s/early 30s and no one would let her do it in peace. sad"
(also *love* the framing of a Nazi just being a dirt bag....)
#white women get afforded so much grace you could literally sit down and fuck a racist and other white ppl#will still say 'its ok you just wanted to have fun đ'

Hmmm... very interesting to me that Taylor Swift is trending rn and yet for some reason no one in that tag is complaining that her trending is taking away from what's going on in Palestine and what's happening in Rafah. And yet for some reason, people couldn't seem to shut up in the Kendrick Lamar tag when he was trending about how the whole beef was just two celebrities beef (it's much deeper than that) and were making up theories abt how the whole thing was taking attention away from Palestine and everyone talking about it should feel ashamed of themselves (every single account I saw in that tag was posting about Palestine too).
And the thing that's really getting me is that Taylor is trending bc of a change to the Eras tour. An objectively unimportant change to make, especially when compared to what's going on in Rafah. But that's not what gets hate, no, it's the predator getting called out in an industry known for exploitation by one of the biggest artists in said industry. The racism isn't even implicit atp...
Edit: ok so just to clarify no this wasn't meant to insinuate that Taylor trending was some setup of Israel (that's just... like objectively wrong lmao), it was to point out that when it comes to a black artist in hip hop (a predominantly non-white genre) people wouldn't let fans of said genre just enjoy the music and shenanigans happening in that genre and that's it's hypocritical to act like people can't care abt two things at once, but they can enjoy their white "feminist icon" pop star (a much whiter genre) without anyone bringing hate into that tag. like i put in the tags, the anti taylor tag is for filtering bc i honestly don't see this post as particularly negative for taylor swift, it's a critique of the fans. and i'm calling out swifties particularly bc the ones who were saying that the beef was manufactured to take eyes off of rafah were swifties, and the ones being racist in the kendrick tag were swifties. i'm not exaggerating like almost every hate post i saw mentioning the beef being manufactured was a swiftie account. it is weird to act like people caring about very serious allegations happening in a genre of music isn't reason enough to make a big deal of the situation and go INTO THE TAG and complain, but it is especially hypocritical and frankly quite infuriating to see the same people who complained about a big deal of a situation being a "distraction" from gaza and then blog abt taylor swift . it's fine if u want to blog abt music u like, honestly idc abt that, if that's all u do then this legit isn't targeted at u, this is targeted at the swifties who came into the kendrick tag to complain and then went back to talking abt swift two seconds later like they weren't doing the same thing they were complaining abt two minutes before. (sry for the long explanation, but i just don't want ppl taking my words out of context and i rlly tried to word this all clearly, but idk man sometimes u think u word something well and then nobody undrestands wtf u were on abt so i wanted to make sure it was clear) also, if you're a zionist or israel supporter, i will be blocking u if u interact with this post. ok ty bye bye
#ok so i am white and i'm a little hesitant to post this bc i've been trying not to overstep throughout this whole beef#so if anyone thinks this post is doing that please just let me know and i'll take it down#i just haven't seen anyone talk about this#and it's bothering me especially bc when kendrick was trending i kept seeing swifties being racist in the tag#so the audacity of them to complain when kendrick was trending and yet go back to praising their âmotherâ#it rlly rubs me the wrong way#like how much audacity do you have to have... really.#kendrick lamar#drake#taylor swift#anti taylor swift#<- that last one is just for filtering#and bc i just... don't like taylor swift lol#also the racism hasn't been implicit in the kendrick tag for a while#but yknow that was more for The Point to get across lol#and if anyone thinks this is whining for no reason i have a literal google doc that i had to start of posts complaining in the kendrick tag#bc ppl genuinely were not shutting the fuck up in that tag

i personally find omegaverse deeply and intensely triggering (and, sort of unrelatedly, politically objectionable) specifically as a trans guy in that i think it doesn't really queer biological essentialism in any perceivable way so much as aggressively reinforce it (penis = strong and dominant; penetrated = weak and submissive). like it's not really monstrous to me at all - it's barely even an exaggeration of how people talk to me on grindr yknow? i understand that it functions as an exploration of misogyny without having to include women but i find it a pretty profoundly transphobic and essentialist one, and also i like it when there's women in stuff, personally. i pretty much only read anything omegaverse when the author has transparently learned about social constructs and is having anthropological fun playing with the ways the social aspects of those roles don't necessarily accurately relate the ~pure biology~... but that's obviously not as common as it could be.
interestingly, this is also how i feel about any fic with soulmates. if your soulmate fic actually thinks soulmates are real, and not just an external source of social pressure to which people and cultures respond in different ways, you are not someone whose fantasy is going to resonate with my emotional word.
edit: didn't expect this one to circulate but if discussing further, please refer to it as 'omegaverse' incl. in tags rather than by the shorter abbreviation; that word is a slur.
#'the monster is a metaphor' ok cool who else got hit by that metaphor yknow#prev post mentions the racist overtones of many of these monster romances which i think is especially topical in the sorts of het fantasies#under discussion there but i think probably also applies. to many other aspects of like popular fic / monster romance tropes

I forgot to make a post about this last week (or maybe I needed time to process what I saw), but addressing my fellow Tolkien fans out there: Did anyone else feel the urge to scoop their own eyes out with a spoon after the whole 'sympathetic and misunderstood orcs who just want to stay with their families and don't want to go to war' debacle?
Misunderstood orcs. Misunderstood. Orcs. Who don't want to go to war. ORCS. They actually showed an orc baby being held by its orc parent.
Once again... ORCS.
I am so glad Christopher Tolkien died in 2020.
