Plot Summary : Out at a quirky themed bar with the team, Jamie approaches the reader to apologize for what he deems as dickish behavior. Flirty words turn to a tender moment, but the reader doesn’t realize someone else is pining after her.

Music drifted through the speakers in the tiny, hokey, Southern American themed bar, and you sighed, eyeing Ted and Beard singing along jovially. You took a sip of your sickeningly sweet sweet tea, just the way you liked it. You had come along to London with Ted and Beard to continue your job as their personal assistant. Let’s face it, they needed help keeping up with everything that needed to be kept track of, and you were the one for the job. Sure, you were younger, but you had proven yourself a capable office manager back in Kansas. 

Your view of the two men was obstructed by another, admittedly more handsome man. Jamie. Your breath hitches slightly, and you cover it with another sip of your drink. You had grown a friendship with the young player, and considered him someone you could go to for anything and everything. What Jamie didn’t know, however, is that you had deep feelings for him, and care about him more than anyone else. 

“Hi Jamie!” You chirp, setting your empty drink glass on the bar. Jamie peers at you, looking at the drink you had sat down. You rarely drank alcohol, so this was a rare form for you. You follow his gaze, snorting slightly. “It’s sweet tea, no alcohol. What brings you to my dingy little corner of the bar?” You ask, stepping a bit closer to him, feigning needing to hear him better. 

“I came to apologize.” He says, his lips close enough to brush your ear. You pull back, eyebrows knitting together out of concern. 

“Apologize for what?” You ask, going through every interaction you had with him recently, coming up short. “You’re worrying me, Jamie.” You say, studying his face. 

“I feel like I’ve been a prick lately, and I’m sorry. I’ve been stressed about the Man City game, and you know me dad-”

You hold up a hand to stop him. “Jamie, you haven’t been a dick to me at all, ok? I get that you’re stressed, and your dad sucks. But you haven’t been any less kind to me than you’ve always been.” The hand you held up moves to squeeze his hand. 

“You’re too good for me, love.” He says back, lifting your hand to his and kissing your knuckles slightly. You try to pretend that your heart didn’t skip a beat, and you just roll your eyes at him. 

“Please. You flatter me.” You wave your hand away, as if to say he needn’t mention it, that’s what friends are for. 

But Jamie moves closer to you, your torsos almost pressing into each other. In this dingy bar, the low light accentuates Jamie’s handsome features, and you gaze up at him, an eyebrow raised. 

“I really mean it. Even when I was bein’ a little prick all the time when you and Ted and Beard first got to Richmond, you were nothin’ but nice to me.” He shrugs. “And I never thanked you.” 

“You really don’t have to thank me, I’m glad I forced you to be my friend.” You flash a grin at him, which makes him laugh, looking away from you slightly while he absorbs your presence. When his gaze finds yours again, it’s considerably softer. 

“Darlin’, I was putty in your hands the first time you bossed me around.” You snort incredulously, and he laughs. “I was. You got on me arse about being on time and it kicked me into gear.” 

“You were stressing Ted out, and a stressed out Ted is a stressed out assistant.” You confirm. “Jamie.” You say, looking at him. “Did you really come to seek me out just to tell me you’re glad I yelled at you the first week we met?” 

“Of course not. I needed an excuse to come talk t’you.” He murmurs, absentmindedly tucking a piece of hair behind your ear. 

“You never need an excuse to be near me.” You breathe out, and you’re faintly aware of a slow, sweet country song playing in the background. You clear your throat, drawing back slightly from him, “I love this song,” you say, tucking your hair behind your ear and trying to change the subject at hand. 

"You're as smooth, as Tennessee whiskey, you're as sweet as strawberry wine..." the old jukebox plays, and you close your eyes a moment.

Jamie doesn’t respond, he takes your hand delicately and leads you to the small dance floor. Your heart pounds, wondering what this change in Jamie is all about. Of course, the two of you were friends. But he had never been so tender with you. You were usually the one giving hugs, patting hands, brushing hair away…did he actually mean to be this sweet and touchy-feely with you? Or was he drunk? Jamie draws you close, holding one of your hands to his chest while the other wraps around your waist. He rests his head against yours and murmurs something you can’t quite hear. 

“Hm?” You manage to squeak out, a little more high pitched than you meant to be. 

“I said, I always want to be near you. I know you only think of me as a friend, and I get it, but I wanted you…”He clears his throat, “wanted you to know.” He finishes. 

You pull your head back to look him in the eyes. “What makes you think I only think of you as a friend?” You say softly, raising an eyebrow. “Because I don’t.” 

Jamie knits his brows together. “You don’t?”

You can’t help but let out a laugh. “No! Why would you think that?” You look into his eyes again, and the sight of you making eye contact seems to instantly soften his gaze again. 

“Because you’re…well, you.” He says. “Always seemed too busy to get involved with an athlete, not to mention one that you’re friends with.” 

“I must be good at hiding the fact that I am desperately drawn to you, then.” You say, causing Jamie to smile and press a kiss to your temple. “Jamie.” You say. 

“Yea?” He responds, rocking the two of you gently to the music. 

“Kiss me.”

Nothing else needed to be said. Keeping a hold of your hand pressed to his chest, Jamie draws his face back to look at you. When he sees that you’re being serious, he presses his lips to yours. Slow, sweet, longing. You bring your free hand up to rest lightly at the back of his neck, and when he breaks the kiss, you keep it there. It’s intimate, familiar. 

Jamie pulls you close again, resting his head against yours. “I guess this makes us more’n friends, yea?” He whispers in your ear. 

You laugh, nodding along. “I guess so.” You reply, blushing happily as the two of you danced in the low light. 

“Good luck gettin’ rid of me, love.” He says playfully, peppering your face with kisses as you laugh. 

A low growl escaped the burly man’s lips as he watched Tartt slowly spin you on the dancefloor.

You seemed to be deep in conversation, and he feels Ted and Beard both looking at him. 

He sighs, setting the beer bottle in his hand down on the bar with a clink signalling the cowboy hat clad bartender to swap it out with a fresh, full one. 

“I heard a growl there, Roy.” Says Ted, who then looks over Roy to catch Beard’s attention. “What’s got this one more riled than a junkyard dog, Coach?” Beard jerks his head towards you and Jamie, swaying slightly to the music, and Ted breaks into a smile. 

“Well hey, isn’t that nice?” Ted says, earning a glare from Roy. “By that look I’m collecting that you don’t think that’s nice.” He states. 

Roy just grunts again in response, lifting his bottle to his lips, his eyes watching you. 

Beard shrugs. “Seems like you might have a crush.” 

Ted nods knowingly. “Well, I could have told you that, Beard. You seen the way Roy looks at her when she comes into our office? Like she’s the sun, I’m telling ya.” 

“Oi, shut it, you two.” Roy interjects, “and don’t pretend I can’t see the sly look the two of you are about to give each other. I’m not in denial about it.” 

Ted and Beard look at Roy, waiting for him to finish his thoughts. Rushing him would just get them a “fuck off!”. So they had learned to wait. 

“The thing is- I know she’s special. And clearly Jamie does too. Clearly we have the same taste in women.” Roy grunts as he watches Jamie pull away to look you in the eyes. He clenches his jaw, trying not to appear more jealous than he already was. “She’s just…she’s great. And I like her, okay?” 

Ted and Beard exchange another look and Ted clears his throat slightly. “Listen Roy, we know she’s great. Wouldn’t know which way was up without her, but maybe you should actually try talking to her if you want her to like you.” 

“How do you mean? I talk to her!” Roy says indignantly. 

“Grunting in response to questions she asks you isn’t considered talking to her.” Beard chimes in, Ted nodding along and pointing to his long time friend. 

Roy isn’t listening though. He’s watching Jamie lean in and kiss you, your hand reaching to cradle the back of his neck. It felt like everything stopped. He didn’t realize just how much he liked you until he saw you happy with someone else. Thinking that should be him. And that made him feel like an utter prick. 

“Fuuuuuccckkkkk.” He groaned. This was not good.

Runner, Pt. 4

We don't get to see the full gamut of McKay's reaction to the realization that they have lost contact with Sheppard and have no idea what has happened to him. We next join McKay and Lorne inside the puddle jumper, and the fact that it's daylight indicates that some time has passed. They are in radio contact with Atlantis, informing Weir of the situation. Lorne seems to have calmed down some, and being able to get instructions from a superior on Atlantis likely helped with that.

For his part, McKay seems perfectly normal. Like nothing is amiss. Later, McKay mentions that Ford is showing signs of clinical dissociation. The fact that he even knows what it is seems to confirm his long history of therapy, and that he may have some personal experience with dissociation, as it is an extremely common defense mechanism for multiple forms of childhood trauma. For example, McKay most definitely seems to use his work to avoid facing difficult emotions. Now, unlike what he later tells Ford, "talking in the third person" is not a sign of dissociation. Experiencing a traumatic event and having no feelings about it is. Emotional numbness. Behaving in an uncharacteristic way. What we see McKay doing here are all signs of dissociation.

McKay walks in on Lorne's call to Atlantis and makes a request for radiation suits--which is not unreasonable on a planet with nearly lethal levels of radiation (in fact, we see the effects of the radiation on Ford, who is protected by the wraith enzyme and we see Ronon apply some kind of protection on his skin). While Sheppard's attitude toward McKay was being contrarian, it was never that he didn't believe McKay.

But Lorne, who seems to have adopted Sheppard's attitude toward both McKay and McKay's antics wholesale, seems to think seeking protection from the radiation is ridiculous, which is just ten different kinds of stupid. He gives McKay a look of silent judgement as he makes his request which McKay seems to misinterpret. He thinks that Lorne gives him the look because he thinks he's acting selfishly. He has not caught onto just how little Lorne seems to think of every aspect of who he is.

But the thing is, McKay's focus on this secondary, really quite peripheral concern is also a sign of dissociation. Major Lorne is not equipped to understand why McKay is behaving the way he does, and he doesn't even have a baseline for McKay's normal behaviour. We can't really blame him for not understanding what is going on with McKay, but he is still being dickish for little to no reason. McKay even shows concern for Lorne's men, asking Weir to have all the available suits brought out for them, not just for himself.

But you better believe McKay cares about what has happened to Sheppard. If he cared less, we might see him react in some normal way, be worried, be freaking out, try to think of ways of saving him. This full blown dissociation tells us just how deeply he is affected, and the fact that he mentions the concept of dissociation himself later just invites us to try fitting his foot into this particular shoe, see if it fits.

At the same time, Sheppard is slowly regaining consciousness inside a cave, tied up with Teyla.

They appear to have been stunned, and while Teyla was hit first, Sheppard is the first to wake up probably due to his bigger body absorbing the blast. Sheppard is trying to make sense of their current situation and surroundings as Teyla stirs behind him:

Teyla: Colonel? Sheppard: You OK? Teyla: My head is pounding. Where are we? Sheppard: I don't know, but I was just about to ask him.

Sheppard is glad that he's here with Teyla and not McKay. While his hands may be literally tied at the moment, he is still more free to think of what to do, how to get them out of this. He's not paralyzed by fear, he's not distracted by his constant concern for his well-being. This is why he had chosen Teyla to go with him, and this just proved that his choice had been correct.

Now, we've seen several times in the past, especially when Acastus Kolya has been involved, that Sheppard has swallowed down all his smart-ass remarks out of fear for McKay's safety. We saw him physically have to force his hand down not to say what he was thinking in The Eye (S01E11). But now, although he does not know anything about this man other than that he must be dangerous since he had got the drop on them, he seems much more carefree. They're definitely in a tight spot, but he's been in tighter spots than this.

Sheppard: You might wanna be careful where you point that thing. Looks like you've got the safety off. Sheppard: OK, be that way. But my guess is if you wanted us dead, we'd be dead right now, so why don't you tell us who you are and what you want? Sheppard: Alright, I'll go first. I'm Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard.

Notice how Sheppard keeps direct eye contact with him, trying to come across earnest, trustworthy, stalwart and unthreatening, all at the same time. Make no mistake, he is attempting to charm Ronon into letting them go. This is one of the weapons in his arsenal and he has never been above using it to get what he wants.

So, this is not Ford. They had thought who ever had killed the wraith had been Ford due to the removal of the enzyme sac. But this man, whoever he was, certainly seemed capable of killing a wraith. Maybe they had been wrong. What was the chance they'd find two wraith killers on a planet that doesn't support animal life? So Sheppard isn't worried for McKay. As far as he knew, Lorne and McKay had been tracking the same sound, and they weren't here, and this man obviously hadn't killed himself and Teyla. So, he could pretty safely assume McKay and Lorne were still out there somewhere. That freed him up.

He's even more relieved to learn that this man is a soldier:

Dex: "Colonel"? Sheppard: It's my rank. Military designation.Dex: Specialist Ronon Dex. Sheppard: That's you? Dex: Name and rank. Sheppard: Military? Dex: I used to be. It was a long time ago.

While he didn't know this man, at least he could understand him. Clearly, he was on the lam. He was running away from something. He could understand that too. Still, he was curious. This man had clearly been through a lot. He could see something of what he felt reflected on this man's face.

Sheppard: And now? Dex: Now I'm deciding whether to kill you and your friends

Again, the topic of friendship is brought up. Friends, he says. Plural. We don't know whether he has seen the other soldiers, but he has seen Ford and by their fatigues, probably assumes Ford is one of their people. Ford and Teyla make two friends. Sheppard, however, must assume that he means the others.

The thing is, none of them are really his friends. He doesn't really have a lot of friends despite what he tells Teyla later in Sateda (S03E04), and his response there is also a case of the lady protesting too much. Most of his friends are dead or had walked out on him a long time ago (and one of his dead friends, Dex, actually had the same name as this man, seems like). He wanted to think of Teyla as his friend but they were more collegial. And Rodney. He wanted to be Rodney's friend. He tried really hard to be a friend to him. They had agreed they would be friends. So why was it so difficult? The more he tried, the more it hurt. If he was honest with himself, Rodney was not his friend either. He's not sure he even wanted that. He's not sure that he was able.

But still, who ever this man thought was his friend, he certainly didn't want them to be killed. Being his friend was the quickest way to get killed, really, so it was probably real good he didn't have any.

Back in the jumper, McKay is trying to take care of Sheppard's people who, likely taking after the example of their superiors, seem to not want to listen to their science officer despite being on an actual alien planet of which they know precious little.

He offers them the suits that they had brought with them from Atlantis but they all just seem to ignore him:

McKay: Hey, wait, aren't any of them gonna... OK, that's just reckless! There are four suits. Lorne: Not exactly designed for moving through dense brush and rough terrain, not to mention possible combat, huh? McKay: No, but by my calculations we've been exposed to 327 millisieverts since the sun came up. It may not sound like much to you but I've been keeping a running tally of my lifetime exposure to radiation: X-rays, cellphones, plane rides, that whole unfortunate Genii nuclear reactor thing. My God, last week we flew dangerously close to the corona of a sun!

Lorne does not seem to realize how close to crying McKay is here, how he has to stop in the middle of his speech, just as he mentions plane rides (Sheppard is a pilot, has come really close to dying flying a plane very recently), before continuing on to Genii nukes (Sheppard had almost died flying their nuke up to the hive) and recently having flown into the coronasphere of a sun (with Sheppard, they had almost died together). He stops, swallows, and then continues as though he was just listing things. Lorne thinks McKay is just complaining when he is clearly thinking about Sheppard and trying not to unravel right then and there.

But then, we get a really interesting exchange. From having clearly just thought about Sheppard, Sheppard, Sheppard there, McKay's mind then goes directly to having kids and how he might not be able to have them any more, things being as they are:

McKay: As it is, I may have to forego reproducing. Lorne: Yeah, that's funny. I was just thinking that might be wise.

This is another entirely unnecessary dig from Lorne. "Please don't breed because the world doesn't need more people like you," is the gist of it. That's really pretty petty toward someone that has done nothing but try to help him out, offering him his sunscreen, having Weir transport a radiation suit to protect him from deadly radiation, trying to make what seems to be--if not his very first then at least one of the first--missions on an alien planet easier for him through normalizing it with conversation. He's done everything Lorne has asked of him, he has been considerate and helpful. If McKay has done anything here, he's shown what a good parent he would be. He's not only one of the most brilliant minds of his generation, he's clearly Mr Mom. You'd be so lucky to see him with kids.

But it's interesting, what he says here. During the first season, there were multiple references to children in connection with Sheppard and McKay. In Childhood's End (S01E06) Sheppard told Keras that he might want children one day. And while it first seemed like McKay had neither the desire nor the ability to get along with children, by the end of the episode the youngest children actually clung to him, they seemed to like him best. He was the safe adult for them. He was ready to protect these children with his own life. He was surprisingly good with kids, is the thing. And what McKay says here is that he, just like Sheppard, had thought about having kids. He had planned on having kids but now was beginning to doubt that would or even should happen.

We don't know if Sheppard and McKay ever talked about kids or having kids between the two of them but fact is, they were both ready to bring the kids to Atlantis to keep them safe. It seems like they had been on the same page about this, too. And then, everything had changed. What ever dreams or plans McKay had had, they had now all burned to the ground. The radiation aspect is just an excuse. In his heart of hearts he thinks that it's just not going to happen for him because no one wants him. No one wants to make a family with him. He doesn't deserve to have a family. And even if by some miracle he found someone that would be willing to start a family with him, the most convenient way of procreating just isn't on the table for him. As far as we know, Rodney McKay has never had sex with a woman and has no interest in doing that either.

And the thing is, this is one of those throw-away lines that the mainstream audience is going to take as evidence of a heterosexual orientation where that's not what he says at all. He's not saying he had so been looking forward to breeding with an available female of his species if only he found the right one. He's saying that he thinks he's too damaged to reproduce, and that he doesn't want to transfer his damage onto his own children (and this really isn't just about the radiation). Heterosexual people don't have a monopoly on wanting to have kids. Non-heterosexual people have had children the world over, from the dawn of history. This tells us that like Sheppard, McKay had been wanting to have kids. It seems to have been a dream that they shared. But that dream had been shattered. And it's interesting that his mind went to having kids from clearly having thought about Sheppard almost dying multiple times.

Back in the cave, Ronon is applying some concoction on his skin to protect himself from the sun like a pussy, if we're going by what the military types seem to be thinking. Sheppard is both trying to reason with the stranger and, in order to try gain his trust, volunteers some information about their operation:

Sheppard: Look, the men guarding the Stargate are highly-trained soldiers armed with deadly weapons. Dex: Stargate? Sheppard: Stargate. Big circle thing. Dex: I've always known it as the Ring of the Ancestors. No matter, I have to make it through. Sheppard: Look, we didn't come here looking for trouble, and the whole killing thing is really unnecessary. Dex: If your friends try to stop me... Sheppard: They won't, if I tell them not to. Untie us, we'll all go to the gate together and you can be on your way.

Again they make a reference to friends which really seems to be a recurring theme in this episode.

Ronon seems to have spent many years all on his own and while he can tell these people are not wraith or native to this planet, or seem to want anything to do with him, he's still suspicious of them. As someone that has survived unfathomable dangers, he can tell that these two people are dangerous and while Sheppard probably is being sincere about his offer because he has places to be and people to see that are not this cave and not this man, Ronon can also tell that he's not exactly an honest man. And it's true that while Sheppard has mostly been telling this stranger the truth, he has been trying to game him the whole time too. He has been trying to come across as earnest and trustworthy because a dishonest man can also use the truth as a weapon. Sheppard is an "any means necessary" kind of guy, and here he is trying to figure out what means to apply to this guy. But it's noticeable that, practiced though his calm here is, even though he's tied up, he seems to be perfectly in control of the situation and especially is in control of himself.

What's interesting about this is that Sheppard seems to be talking to Ronon as one would to a child. As one would try to reason with a child. He's talking like a parent trying to get a child to undo something stupid and dangerous, to walk them back from getting themselves hurt. This is similar to what happened in Childhood's End. We are made to think of one of them having children, and then are shown what a great parent the other man would be. Here, both of them are actually exemplifying qualities of good parents: McKay is taking care of people where Sheppard is playing the part of a responsible, firm but compassionate authority figure. Their parenting styles seem complementary. It's too bad McKay now seems to have given up on this dream.

SHAMELESS OPINIONS: S7 (cause Mickey's write off hurt and after s5, I watched again from s1 and forced myself to keep watching + no one around me likes Shameless so I need a place to vent)

overall: i actually loved it, had me pretty hooked all throughout

ok, i kind of like s7 Trevor, he's charming, got this lil sassy banter going off, he's cute and nice y'know. I just *HATE* that they so obviously tried to recreate some dynamics he had with Mickey straight away without letting us warmup to him, how can you deepthroat aspects built from 5 seasons into half of one??? No. Sorry. Him settling so quickly into the Gallagher house as if he's spent a decade there, idk. And the patient scene with Ian? foh man, no. 1x09 was special for a reason, and this would've played differently if Ian actually came to Mick if he was still around. They play out so much better as friends or fw/b ig but that deepthroat can't help me see a relationship between them. Not liking s8 Trevor so far, my god. Also his nonchalant attitude towards Monica threw me off. I get it, he's new and doesn't know much, Ian never mentioned her before apparently, but like "she's a lil crazy i can like her" eek, idk. Like almost downplaying his situation with her.

Caleb can suck my ass along with JW and his hate for bisexuals. My bi ass cannot approve. Cheater McCheater my ass. I can almost walk through Ian's ignorance cause for all he knew, Caleb was just gay, and I feel he said the bisexual thing out of frustration and betrayal towards his actions than actual disdain for the orientation, but yes. He was ignorant in his convo with Lip, and so was him anyway. I guess they just didn't know it is a thing. But thing is, I BET YOU ASSES that Caleb is the type of douche to STILL justify his actions even if JW didn't display his hate towards bisexuality in his writing, he just is *that* douchy. At least he motivated Ian to get his job, I'll give him that.

OH MY GOD THE THROUPLE... AND ITS SLOW BURN. it's hard cause you can understand both sides of the situation and it was just a clear issue of misunderstandings and miscommunication... I just wish they could've handled things better because I was really rooting for them. They fucking worked so well, with their little schedules and organization. I have such a fat crush on Isidora it's actually embarrassing. Anyway... I miss their dynamic. They deserved better.

Lip was a dick to Fiona about the Laundromat, but Fiona also just jumps the gut to these impulsive decisions, and I get that if she does ask for opinions, they probably won't agree with her, and it's not like I can blame lip, I mean look at the Club situation, yeah she made profit, but didn't break even, and that where his worry comes from. But at least, if she still approached him, and did it anyway against his say, he can't rub it in her face that this entails a family meeting and she can't just make those decisions without consultation. Overall, Lip was so arrogant and dickish with her, and for what... he couldn't even bring the money he so desperately wanted her to believe he could.

I love Sue. I just love EMT Ian stuff with all my life, idc what it is, I kick my feet cause he's so happy.

I fucking loved Carl and Mr. Luthers dynamic. Such an epic lil duo tbh.

I loved Frank's storyline here fsr 💀💀 it's so silly and he gets his way like always, but idk, I loved seeing his adventures at the shelter, he still remains a POS that's for sure.

I fucking LOVED seeing Debbie this season, I was a little disappointed last season cause there is so much lost potential on her pregnancy journey last time with where she was staying, but I fucking loved her here and putting her scamming skills to the test. Don't love how she ends up treating Neil in s8 cause... Well, I just feel bad for him, but also, if she really wanted to stay true to her convenience relationship, she probably should've stuck it out more so it lasted more, idk. But enough of that, I loved her setting a goal for herself at the end of the season, and I honestly commend Monica for helping her get Franny out of the house, I understand Derek's family's concern but they were so cunty in how they handled things.

Monica's death hit me like a truck... Idk why, there are so many mixed emotions here, she couldn't dare to tell the kids the real reason she was there, and all she wanted was to be there one last time. My heart goes out to her tbh.

Gallavich. Oh dear God. FERAL, FERAL EVERY TIME. it's like receiving crumbs and eating them up like a vacuum, nothing I can say that hasn't already been said... I just... Wow. Fuck. And to know that, after needing Noel for ratings, that this was gonna be the end for them? No, I could throw up. I couldn't imagine watching shameless as it aired with that knowledge in mind. Lord bless Etta... my dear soul. 7x11 was vicious for that, my heart crumbled fr. I can see this was all in Fiona's best interest for Etta and stuff... It was just so sad to see.

Lip and Sierra, I don't really know what people's opinions are about Sierra but I kind of liked her? She was sweet, and had traces of boundaries with Lip even if the fucker attempted to break them every now and then. But she was sweet.

Lips second spiral was even harder than the first one to see. Him crashing at Helene's apartment, and she still doesn't seem to grasp that she essentially groomed him, and he's just so devastated still. Fuck.

That ending montage was truly a piece of cinema I tell you. It was beautiful.

I probably have more to say I don't remember but I really liked s7, not on the priority of a constant rewatch, but it was really good...and truly served as the finale it was meant to be. EXCEPT FOR GALLAVICH, holy fuck that would've pained the whole audience.

im still a little in disbelief that when my prof was being dismissive and dickish to me my classmates actually stood up for me and pointed out he was ridiculous. nobody made a scene in class but when we left they let me know they noticed and asked if i was ok. even now a few weeks later someone brought it up just out of earshot that he wasnt acting right that day and it bothered them. it can feel like people think i'm overreacting and my problems are inconsequential so it's hard to believe people i don't know that well actually care about me being welcome and safe. idk.

Boxer (now trainer) Joel!! Reader has an asshole boxer bf! I hope Joel gets to beat the shit out of Tyler tbh. I really fucking love Ren's writing style and the way she builds up the characterization. Like we learn so much about Joel's life and personality, Tyler and Reader's relationship dynamic, Reader's sort of (as yet unknown to them) kinship with Joel, Sarah and Joel's relationship, and more all in 7K words. This fic is going to be so fucking lovely. I think it's one of those "Oh my god that poor man deserves to be happy for once in his miserable little life" fics and I LOVE those.

I thought this fic was gonna be silly! And I mean I guess it was. Certainly no angst. But if you think accidentally moaning This is the Way would be silly.... you think wrong. The way Mando responded??? Good god this fic is hot, y'all. I just like... does Din have a breeding kink? Is it the fact that she said it when he creampied her and like... the marriage vow thing is "we will raise warriors" ??? Sorry I'm speculating a lot here. I just... anyway yeah feral din. very hot.

The Art of Healing - a Marcus Pike series by @northernbluess

This is such a gorgeous fic. It has a lot of discussion of ED recovery, so please read warnings and take care of yourself and don't read if it will hurt you BUT!!! The way the topic is handled in the fic is so fucking beautiful. Marcus is a precious angel baby and Jo is so so so strong and wonderful. It's really lovely to follow along with her therapy and see what she paints. It's also incredible watching her bond with Marcus grow. It's a slow burn, therapist x OFC, with lots of angst but also so many of these like... really tender and sweet moments. It's so clearly a story that is coming from the heart and I adore it and can't wait to read more.

Ok big warning up front -- she killed steve lmao. That's how reader ends up being Javi's partner. I really love how Javi's dickish demeanor from early season one is being played up here. Big fuckin fan. I just know this is gonna be a beautiful smutty enemies to lovers extravaganza.

I really like professor peña. Like it makes a lot of sense that he'd do that after retiring. I love the concept of this fic so much. And the tension is being built up so fucking well. Javi pining and chastising himself. The subtle mention of reader doing something to support herself that is definitely not TAing. I would be more than happy to be Javi's extraneous circumstance. Anywayyyy I fucking love this and I'm so excited for the next chapter ahhhh.

how would you interpret the dynamic between luckdallas? what makes others’ interpretation of the ship wrong (to you)? i’m interested!

okkkk wow hi! ok so just a general disclaimer before i get really into this: i have very specific thoughts and opinions on most ships and i'm really picky in general with the sort of stuff i enjoy. i'm not posting this to dog on people who write luckdallas and me saying people write it "wrong" mostly is just for the bit i do where i like to pretend i'm always right about matters of baccano every time. however people interpret those 2 characters is completely up to them lol; i AM just doing my usual bit when i trash talk like that.

so, i think luck and dallas have a REALLY really long way to go before they're ever at a level where they would ever even think for a second about being romantically involved, and that's ... sort of mostly my issue with a lot of luckdallas fics.

it's probably because most people are writing with the end goal of having them together in mind, but a lot of people who write luckdallas content seem to take the escalation between them very quickly, or start things out by insinuating there's some kind of sexual tension between them from the beginning and that they're in perfect positions to be eachothers' release. i do not believe this is the case so it's where i disagree with a lot of luckdallas fics.

here is where i stand on their dynamic! i think that dallas is too hateful of the world beyond eve and unwilling to let anyone else into his extremely tight circle to approach ***anyone*** in a non-hostile way, let alone luck. and, somewhat more crucially, luck has absolutely NO respect whatsoever for dallas, to the point where he literally can't even remember dallas's name, or at the very least pretends not to remember it for the sole purpose of being disrespectful. it's made very clear that dallas is the lowest and most insignificant type of person from luck's point of view, and luck is actually very closed-off beyond the bounds of his family as well.

because of this, i think it would actually take a lot more work than most writers who are just looking to see how their dynamic ends up are generally willing to put into things.

also, even aside from that ... i think those sorts of fics make luck a little bit too open and dallas a little bit too nice. luck is the sort of person who actively hides a lot of his thoughts and feelings—we rarely see him without either his usual "vulpine" smile or a general air of indifference, except when he's VERY angry or upset.

a lot of luckdallas fics also seem to be operating under the assumption that dallas's path to becoming a better person is connections with luck and therefore other people, and i don't disagree with this, but i actually think most people make him a little bit TOO nice. being a dick is a quintessential part of dallas's character, and even to eve who he loves more than anyone in the world, he generally says and does dickish things even though he *isn't* trying to hurt her.

dallas demonstrably isn't the sort of person who finds any sort of reflection of the rest of the world in his relationships—i think inviting someone new into his circle would make him less of a dick to THEM, for sure, but i believe dallas would still hate the world at large. that is to say, he probably wouldn't get along with luck's brothers, or a lot of the higher ranking members of the gandor family besides them, or FIRO, or claire, etc ... anyway, i actually think that luck's relationship with his family would factor into a hypothetical relationship with dallas in the sense that he values their opinions pretty highly, especially berga and keith's.

also, crucially, i think there's only one factor that could actually get luck to care about dallas if you're looking at them from a canon lens, and it's his relationship with eve. and even then, i really don't think that that factor ALONE is enough to change luck's mind about whether or not he should give dallas the benefit of the doubt—i genuinely think he would have to have some manner of extended interactions with dallas in which eve comes up.

anyway, i think if that sort of tight and complicated scenario ever showed up in people's writing with the buildup i'd like to read about it. i generally explore slash fic from a lens of "what would it take for the characters to get to that point?" but it seems like a lot of luckdallas stuff (and, tbh, non-canon pairing fics in general) operates from the basis of "how would these characters have to be different in order for them to want to be together?" and i'm just not interested in that. at the core of things.

I haven’t forgotten your little lunch on deck in season 1 finale when you were speaking about « Izzy’s revenge » all gleeful and dickish while Ivan and Fang were serving you wine and you threatened WeeJohn with no rations just because he vexed your… yes you guessed it EGO.

Don’t get me wrong I really adore the contradiction and the hypocrisy of it all, it’s very on brand. BUT it was clearly the « I’m gonna die » speech.

Ok in the thread of metal bands/edgy music au; allow me to suggest..

Ace and Sabo met as kids on Moloka’i (hawaii). Sabo moved from South Africa with his parents and Ace lived there with his dad (and his mom but she was at surfing competitions a lot). Being the only kids within age range they quickly befriended eachother and proceeded to run barefoot around the island, climb canyons etc etc

Now in this au Sabos parents are slightly less dickish, so their response is more “hey can we get some indoor activities for our posh child” than “I disown you” anyway that’s where Roger comes in and introduces them to a retired singer also living on the island. Ms Di’ Angelo is a former opera singer who joined a rock band and happy to teach them how to shred a bass guitar. (Sabo’s parents only slightly regret this)

Anyway Both boys take to it like fish to water, Ace in particular possibly destroying his eardrums listening to death metal and Norwegian bands. They also like spending time with Ms Di’Angelo she mentions that she has a kid a little older than them but doesn’t have any pictures or say anything more (the boys assume they passed)

At 21-23 both are doing little gigs or partnering with other bands (they don’t have a singer so it’s just acoustics). They just happen to bump into Ms Di’Angelo and tall blonde man who has very familiar blue eyes. Enter in Marco Di’Angelo Newgate, child of famous retired rockstar Edward Newgate or Whitebeard. Currently attending med school, with a singing voice worth of angels.

Immediately Sabo and Ace are like “ahh yes our third” (for the band, they aren’t actually dating right now, the fools). Anyway they basically hatch a plan to get Marco to join them which simply is “seduce him into the music industry” so the two go about trying to seduce Marco, possibly discovering some overlooked feelings along the way? I’m not saying jealously but someone feels left out

They Almost Fail; cause Marco has some issues and thinks they just doing it for his talent and then will dump him, (he also sees them kiss and wonders if he’s being used) Big confession time and all three end up fucking (duh) and that begins the start of the band; Flame Emperor, Phoenix Fire. Or something idk I put way too much thought into this..

So I've seen a few posts here, and I've been theorying with my friends about it, and we've all agreed that Smg4 and Meggy (specifically those two) have been really dickish to Mario lately. Like, Meggy's grown a massive ego and been pretty mean to him in episodes like Mario's tunnel of doom and Mario harms the environment, and that was never really addressed like I thought it would be in Western Spaghetti (she's done the same thing with tari as well, but that's a whole different thing tbh).

And 4 is pretty much the same! He was a total ass to Mario before IGTBP (which makes sense considering that he was a little insane, but he still hurt Mario's feelings) but then during the movie they never really... resolved it. Like, Mar10 day and the best friend award were never mentioned.

Now this could just be the writing or something, BUT I'VE HAD A BIG BRAIN MOMENT.

What if Mario finally snaps back?

Like, Meggy and 4 are supposed to be his closest friends, and they just keep treating him like shit? I think it would be so cool if the Adware entity or organisation noticed that and used it to, like, manipulate him into turning against the gang or something- because it tells people what they want to hear. Like it told 4 he could make the perfect video, and it told Wren that he could get his life back. What if it tells Mario that he deserves better? That he doesn't deserve to be friends with people who just treat him like he's some kind of incapable baby?

Of course, this probably won't happen since they'll probably set up Peach as the new big boss thing for whatever happens next with the Adware/new castle stuff... but it's cool to think about, at least :P

I love your posts about Denethor and Faramir. I'm always glad to see someone who loves both him and Faramir and gets that Denethor being this hugely impressive tragic figure makes Faramir so much better and more interesting. The relationship between them is so complex and I love it so much. The film versions make me angry as well.

it is truly the relationship of all time. faramir does love his father and yet because of the strength of his principles he is genuinely incapable of showing it in a way that denethor can understand. and denethor loves him too but after a certain point just cannot show it anymore because duty has to take precedence. he's not allowed to give faramir any quarter even in private. and YES that includes anything that would resemble a normal emotion. ngl i wouldn't be surprised if that's the only way faramir is like. LETTING him communicate with him. like i feel like the final assault on osgiliath is not the first time faramir's taken the "if you want to get me to do something you ARE going to have to order me to do it" stance. and yet denethor tries. at the end he takes trying to an unhinged level. idk it often feels like even in the general fandom insistance on one-dimensionally dickish denethor there's somehow also a lack of understanding that it IS a toxic expression of love but that doesn't make it not love. like He's Not Winning Dad Of The Year that is not what we're saying at all. we're saying is "it was born of love. it was a terrible thing yet born of love." thats all! that's why it's so tragic because it's all about love!!! augh...

Did the dlcs change your opinions on any of the characters?

Good question! Hmm, I don't think my opinion changed that much, more like they enhanced those existing characters and the feelings I already had about them.

Ok, maybe with Live & Spooky I've soured a bit on Graham Bannon as a person, understandably (I mean, I think we all could guess that he was kind of a dick, but man, the stuff from the DLC...that was evil. Still absolutely love him as a character tho lmaoooo can't help it), and Patrick was also a little bit more dickish (tho we get to understand a lot more about his childhood growing up with someone like Graham as a father).

With Bits of your Life, I think as funny as the whole DLC is, it's honestly really bittersweet in regards to characters like Peter and Julia. It's heartbreaking to see how idealistic they are here in the campaign trail, knowing how it's all gonna turn out. And of course getting to know a lot more about Peter's life makes me love him even more (especially with the Intervention Path...augh).

And then of course, who knew Dave was such a complex guy lmao.

ok, i’m like halfway thru the first episode of OBX S3, and i figured I’d post my s3 theories before it’s too late, since i shockingly haven’t yet

side note: these are things i think will happen, not necessarily things i want to happen (tho some of them are). also these are things I’ve theorized since the trailer came out and are not spoilers for the first episode

-jiara endgame

-some sort of romance between pope and cleo

-big john will turn out to be a villain

-topper joins the pogues (or at least gets along with them)

-FULL THROTTLE TOPPER REDEMPTION ARC!!!! (we got a little taste in s2 but he was still kinda dickish) (still love him tho)

-kelce dies (maybe rafe kills him?)

-kook academy flashbacks, specifically ones with kie and rafe (i don’t ship them but they DEF have a history) (this one was pretty much already confirmed) (honestly the part im most excited for this season)

-rose either gets way better or way worse. either she has a redemption arc or goes full evil, no in between

-more john b/sarah/topper love triangle (even tho it’s obvious sarah will always choose john b, but the writers keep beating this dead horse instead of letting topper heal and move on), def some sarah/topper will they won’t they shit goin on. maybe sarah cheating on john b with topper? i mean she’s canonically cheated on every guy she’s ever been with so i mean… if the shoe fits

-wheezie will play a bigger role. idk how yet, maybe she dies, maybe she follows sarah’s footsteps and rebels against and cuts ties with her family, who knows. but my girl is getting SCREENTIME

It's like he's a completely different character and almost painful as a Max fan :( Yes, there's the cocaine thing but given ITV shitting on the show it was handled incredibly poorly and there's no way he'd be as heavily addicted (or as stupid as to literally bring out a wrap in his hand in front of another officer) in such a short amount of time.

He was always a little bit cocky with a swagger and a bit of arrogance and the ability to twist the rules in the favour of 'right' even if getting to the 'right' wasn't strictly done in the 'right' way but he listened to his team, he took their suggestions, he backed off in favour of other officers doing interviews because it was right for the case. He was a bit brusque and not politically correct but he wasn't an out and out arsehole who actively took obvious pleasure in winding up his colleagues (The Max spreading rumours and gossip about Grace and Neil was like a whole other character!)

Even in Smash and Grab he messed up with Millie (who lost her crush there and then in those eps!) and he tried to apologise. In Beth Undercover he was very sweet with Beth even if initially against her being sent in and he did take her for a drink after to make sure she was ok after a 'friend' she'd made whilst undercover got shot. In Righteous Kill he's adorable with Honeysuckle Week's character and her kid. Yes he may have shot her husband whilst in SO19 but we don't mention that. He was naughty.

They might have been buried deep down but he did have feelings and a brain and did engage it! He was in no way perfect and he really did some dickish things in S24 and 25 but they REALLY amped it up for S26 and changed him. Reeeeeally hate what they did to him with the reboot.

I also really wish we'd been told what the storyline projections would have been if they were allowed to continue for each character. I mean they'd have had the plotting meeting many months beforehand, most likely back in mid 09. It would have been plotted out for S26, it'd be interesting to see where a lot of them were heading A lot was set up and quickly edited to come to a quick conclusion, forgotten, completely abandoned or a mix of all the above.
