I was up listening to my audiobook until 6:30AM because I could NOT stop

Here my dumbass thought that the last hour would be CALMING. It would be able to SLOW DOWN from all the non stop action of the book.

Ok ok ok lemme start with other thoughts first before the clusterfuck that was the end of this book.

Karnus au Bellona had one of my favorite quotes of the book. He and Darrow are speaking to each other (I also love that if you paid attention here, Karnus gives the hint about the assassination attempt that Octavia was planning to let happen here) at this party thing. Darrow asks why Karnus wants to kill him despite having everything and Karnus responds that Darrow has dishonored his family. Darrow's like "Pfff so it's pride? Pride is but a shout into the wind." And Karnus responds with, and let me get my papers. It reads as follows *stacks papers and reads*

"I will die. You will die. We will all die and the universe will carry on without care. All we have is that shout into the wind. How we live. How we go and how we stand before we fall. So you see...pride is the only thing."

And I'm sitting here squinting at my ceiling like DAMN bro that's a fucking LINE.

I was slightly confused because Darrow's training with Lorn was off screen so when Darrow was twirling with the Willow Way I was like WAIT WHAT??? But boiiii Cassius BUH BYEEEEE. I know that will be a problem later but...still. I'm happy to live in my bubble for at least the remainder as I type this before I start Book 3.

I....get it, I suppose. Still don't like it, still disappointed. It's hard to blame Darrow even though he was warned to make amends. Mostly because Darrow has major trust issues and the more bad things that happen with betrayals (Tactus, Jackal, Roque. I'd say Pliny too but we never liked Pliny and he wasn't a friend, so.) it's only going to reinforce that.

Don't get me STARTED on Mustang. Like WOMAN. You're up Darrow's ass day and night 25/8 466 days a year to tell you about the truth and he does and you're like

I kinda want him to be with Victra. I love her. I actually shouted when during the battle her mother turned the ship around and switched sides and Victra's ship released the Telemanus war party into the Bellona fleet. I was like HOLY FUCK VICTRA IS MY ACTUAL QUEEN. SHE IS IN FACT THE MAIN CHARACTER. I just love her and wish she was Darrow's wife in arms. Those two would be BAD.

That like he really sees freedom from a Gold's service as a shame upon him because of how the Obsidians have been used in history. Which by the way, is disgusting. I have a huge love for Obsidians because of their past and how they were culled and used and taught to see the Golds as gods. And here comes Darrow trottin' up like "yo so uh, we're all the same, i was born in the dirt and oh I'm a Red and uhhh you're free and uhhh choose your own destiny. ok bye!"

And Ragnar is like

When he gives Ragnar the Razor? Don't touch me. Him somehow slinking around UNHEARD and being Darrow's bodyguard? I live. Him threatening Mustang from the darkness, saying that Reaper is too important to the people to be killed, that he lives for his sisters and his brother and his two fathers and his mother and that Mustang has 10 breathes before he ends her life?

you stumbled out of your friend’s car once the car skidded to a halt outside your apartment building. “y/n! careful,” jiwon said, as she hopped out of the backseat and held onto your body. but that night, it has probably became an empty vessel from all the coolers you had at the bar. you couldn’t help it, the local bar was having a women’s night where there was a 1 for 1 drink discount and you couldn’t pass such a good offer. hence, you dragged three of your friends from college to have a good time.

“do you need us to bring you back upstairs?” haeun rolled down the window and asked from the driver’s seat. “n..no.. i’m good,” you slurred, trying to regain your conscience but to no avail. you let go of jiwon’s arm and attempted to walk your way to the lift lobby. you turned around one last time to wave goodbye to your friends. “buh-byeeeee~!!” you screamed, waving your purse in the air. they all laughed, and drove away into the night.

it took longer than usual, but you finally arrived back to your doorstep. kicking off your pumps, you fiddled with your keys and unlocked the door. stepping in, you headed straight to the kitchen to get a glass of cold water. but before you could even down it, a voice spoke from behind you.

“so, where have you been? it’s 3am,” your boyfriend asked with a serious tone. you spun around and your eyes met his. “heeyyyy baby,” you mumbled, drinking the glass of water in your hand and laying your head on his chest. “i’m serious y/n, did you go out drinking again?” daniel asked, moving away from you, more firm than he was seconds ago. you knew he wasn’t fooling around.

“yeah, i did go out... with jiwon, haeun and chaesol,” you said. he frowned in response. “i didn’t cheat on you or anythiiingggg, it’s all a-ok!!” you reassured, grabbing onto his shoulders. “but i told you before, if you can’t handle the alcohol, don’t even down it,” he reprimanded. he shook his head, and sighed. “please don’t go drinking, it’s bad for your liver and there are potential predators out there, especially when you’re just girls-”

“so what?? you don’t want me to go out anymore??” you burst out, stepping back from daniel. he was shocked by your sudden outburst. “geez, you’re so protective! can’t you support me in what i enjoy!?” you questioned intimidatingly, placing the glass back down onto the kitchen counter. “no, y/n, i-” “i’m not doing this right now daniel,” you continued, grabbing your belongings and storming out of the apartment. slamming the door behind you, you slipped on a pair of slippers. before daniel could even call out your name once more, you hastily left the apartment building.

you decided to head to your friend, jiwon’s house. her apartment building was only a few blocks away, and she lives with chaesol so they wouldn’t mind you coming over without a prior warning. you knocked on their apartment door. you didn’t expect anyone to answer since they would usually go to sleep immediately after a girl’s night out. to your surprise, jiwon greeted you at the door. “hey y/n, why are you here? aren’t you supposed to be with daniel?” jiwon asked, opening the door wider to let you in. “oh, it’s a fight..” you mumbled soberly, slipping off your flip-flops and entering the apartment. “i’m so sorry to hear that, y/n. stay as long as you like,” chaesol replied in the midst of rubbing off her makeup.

you three ended up discussing about what had happened through the night. it had been 2 hours since you last had a drink, so you three were pretty sobered up. “well, it’s literally 5am and i don’t want to screw up my sleep schedule, good night,” chaesol said, and headed towards her bedroom. “me too, i have a work day the day after tomorrow, good night,” jiwon said. “good night girls,” you said, as you laid down onto the sofa bed. you thought long and hard, and you realised that, maybe you were being too irrational. you realised that daniel may have just done that for your own good, and other than that night, he had always wanted the best for you. the more you thought, the more regret was pressing down onto you. but luckily, before you could even think any deeper, you had already fallen asleep.

the next morning, you were awoken to the clanging of utensils and the smell of fresh bacon. it was 10am, and you had a pounding sensation in your head. gripping onto your head, you slowly opened your eyes to see jiwon at the kitchen counter eating her breakfast, while chaesol was cooking. “you got a hangover too? i prepared some ginger tea here to help,” jiwon said, inviting you to sit at the counter. getting up, you thanked her, freshened up at the bathroom and joined them at the table. after drinking a cup of tea and chatting with them, you picked up your purse. “aww, going already? i was about to prepare another plate of breakfast for you,” chaesol continued. “yeah, i’ll have to settle things with daniel first, and i’ll try out your cooking another time. thanks for letting me stay,” you said, opening the front door. “anytime! good luck y/n,” the two girls chorused.

soon enough, you were back at the familiar doorstep. you unlocked the door and entered to see two portions of breakfast on the table. it had blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon, your favourite. daniel popped his head out of the kitchen, put down his spatula in hand and ran towards you. “y/n, i’ve been so worried sick about you,” he pounced on you, causing you to fall back onto the couch, giggling. you sat up, and hugged him back. “please forgive me, i was being over-protective, you can go to the bar all you want, don’t leave me again,” daniel rambled, as you slowly stroked his hair. 

“i’m sorry too, i was slightly intoxicated and it affected my actions,” you said through your smile. you let go, allowing him to sit next to you. “..slightly?” daniel asked with a grin on his face. “okay, maybe i was really drunk,” you pouted and looked away. he reached out his hand to pinch your cheek. “cuuuuute,” he said, and you slapping his arm lightly in response. “come, let’s eat breakfast. i made it for you, and prepared reruns of your favourite shows. i’m going to make it up to you today,” he stood up, grabbing your hand to lead you to the table.

while eating breakfast, he reached over the table to grab your hand. you looked up to make eye contact with him, and he beamed.

“i missed you, y/n,” he said through his smile.
