By the way, and I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you get significantly more depressed in the wintertime, go to a doctor and ask for a blood test to check your vitamin D levels. Typically standard depressive disorders don't have a seasonal pattern (with exceptions of course), and a lot of seasonal affective disorder symptoms can be caused or made worse by a lack of vitamin D. In a lot of cases, you may need prescription strength vitamin D supplements from a doctor, so even if you're on a drug store over the counter supplement, it may not be enough. Go get the blood test!

some of the responses people give on this site (and on the wider internet in general) are frankly quite meanspirited which is why ive been hesitant to post more on here. i think we should be nicer to each other. im kind of tired of seeing casual bullying that we’ve seemingly decided is socially acceptable. it’s just not cool.
i’m gonna be real i fucking hate casual malice. i don’t like participating in it, it makes me feel icky. it makes me feel unsafe to be myself around anyone without hiding anything i’m self-conscious about (which is what i should be doing is conquering these social fears). it’s draining for me to be around.
it’s the last thing any of us need, for ourselves too. this is where meaningful authentic interactions is killed, and layers of irony erected to appear unaffected by anything that is poison for meaningful communication and connection thrives.
i will keep posting about this as long as it continues to bother me

I feel like spreading positivity so.
If you get tagged here, here's a few messages from the person who tagged you:
You are one of the coolest people I know, if not THE coolest ever. I may not have known you for long, but it feels like my whole life, and I don't know what I would do without you. If I haven't met you my life would be fundamentally different. You may have changed, but I've changed with you, and I think we've both grown a lot, and for the better.
I love seeing you create stuff! Be it art, writing, headcannons, or something you DIY-ed, I know that any time you make something it's bound to be good. Every project you start is always very exciting, even if you don't finish it! Watching you create is always very fun.
I know you have bad days, we all do. Don't hesitate to talk to me if you need to. I'm always here, I'll always listen, and I'll always do my best to try to understand and help. Know that you'll always be loved and appreciated!
Here's to our friendship continuing to grow even more in the years to come!
(ps. don't feel pressured to tag anyone back! This is just to let you know that you're loved and appreciated. And if you were planning on tagging someone, but see that they've already been tagged, don't worry! This will be a message from you to them. Tag them!)

PSA: The talk of alleged upcoming raids is causing a lot of unnecessary panic in the rp & askblog communities. It's almost certainly fake, though. Same old hoax, same old reblog bait and fear-mongering as we've seen a million times, like pridefall, which didn't happen.
Think critically when you see a post saying something bad is going to happen. Who is making what claims and what sources do they have for those claims? "I heard from Suzie-Q they were gonna do it" with no elaboration on who "they" is? That's not a source.
If you're really worried about it, go ahead and disable asks with media.

There is no need to panic over this. You're gonna be OK. Take a deep breath.

People loooove to romanticize bipolar disorder and it pisses me off. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be in a stable loving relationship because 4-6 times a year, I’m manic and completely not myself. I have to intensely monitor my sleep, my diet, and my routines to make sure I don’t go into an episode. I have to take several medications every day that have terrible side effects on my body and mind. I couldn’t hold a job until this year. I almost failed out of college multiple times because I was too psychotic to focus on school. Every time I tell someone I’m bipolar I can hear the fear or judgement in their voice. You don’t want bipolar. Mania is not a quirky thing that makes you interesting. This disease has almost killed me or ruined my life permanently many different times.

This might be a little controversial but it must be said. If you bring your pet dog into a public place that dogs are not allowed, knowing that your dog is not a service dog or a service dog in training, and you pretend they ARE a service dog/SD in training, you are a problem and a hazard. A million things can go wrong if you bring a dog that is not a specifically trained service dog into a business. Most states prohibit non service animals in food facilities and the business can get in trouble. People have severe allergies to animals and shouldn't be exposed unnecessarily to these allergens. Non trained dogs can bite children or other people if they get freaked out (ANY dog can bite. I don't care if your dog is a golden retriever puppy who doesn't know it has teeth. ANY dog can bite in the right circumstances. Service dogs are specifically screened before training starts to ensure there's the lowest bite risk possible). Your pet dog can attack or bite an ACTUAL service dog and scare the service dog so badly, they are no longer able to perform tasks in public, leaving the handler without a service dog. Non service animals often use the bathroom in public places and employees have to clean it up (I don't care if your dog is potty trained, if a dog is scared, it will most likely pee on the floor). If your pet dog did not do public access and desensitization training as a puppy and interact with a variety of people and sounds and smells from an early age as soon as possible, they will most likely be freaked out or scared if you decide to take them to a restaurant or grocery store, so you are scaring your poor dog for no reason!! (and scared dogs' typical instinctual reaction is to bite!!!) If you bring your pet dog into a business and they behave poorly because they're scared or overstimulated or just untrained, it will give the employees a misinformed view of ACTUAL service dogs, which makes things harder for actual service dog teams!! There is genuinely not a single reason to bring your pet dog into places of business where non service dogs aren't allowed. Not a single exception. Just leave them home when you go to the grocery store or wherever!!!

I've been seeing a lot of posts lately talking about how no one comments/reblogs/replies/etc anymore, and, as someone who comments regularly on a lot of fanworks, it sometimes makes me wonder if my efforts are worth anything. Then I remember how much happiness I get from comments on my own work/posts and how much the community of fandom can matter, and I remember the power that can be found in spreading joy instead of disappointment.
So -- to everyone who comments on fanfiction: thank you. You make the writing process worthwhile and so very rewarding. You make people happy every day.
To all the people who reblog art and gifsets and meta and anything else with enthusiastic tags: thank you. You make people smile and promote interesting conversations and make being on Tumblr so much more fun.
To anyone who sends people asks about their works, whether it's unprompted or part of an ask game: thank you. You give people reasons to talk about things they love and feel like a part of a community.
To the people who makes reclists: thank you. You give us more to read while showing the author how much their work is loved and appreciated, benefitting so many people.
To everyone who organizes events and groups and blogs and dedicated to fandom: thank you. You build community and love and excitement so effectively and it's wonderful.
To all the authors and artists who respond to comments and build community: thank you. You make people smile with your work and then again with your response.
To everyone who contributes to fandom and community in all the other beautiful, varied ways that I can't even begin to list: thank you. You are why we're here.
And, finally, to every writer, visual artist, gifmaker, cosplayer, maker of edits, writer of meta, or creator of art in any other form: thank you. Your work is wonderful and you make fandom what it is, regardless of who sees your art or how much response you recieve.
Keep going, everyone. You are a part of something beautiful.

Fact Check & Recap (Oct. 8, 2024):
Mike Johnson, a Republican in the House of Representatives [Legislative Branch, the branch of US Government that has several powers assigned exclusively to it, including the power to initiate revenue bills, impeach federal officials, and elect the President in the case of an Electoral College tie] is hesitant to reconvene the House to provide disaster relief funding until after United States Presidential election, which will occur on November 5th, 2024.
Joe Biden, the current United States President, wrote a letter urging Congress [Congress is comprised of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Senate takes action on bills, resolutions, amendments, motions, nominations, and treaties by voting] to provide funding to the Small Business Administration's disaster relief loan program to help the effected communities rebuild and cover financial losses due to natural disaster.
Mike Johnson is refusing on the grounds that the individual states which were effected "need some time to [calculate the actual damages]."
Donald Trump and the Republican party are claiming that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is allocating funds toward aiding migrants who are entering the country illegally. This information is false. FEMA and Border Control are two different divisions with two different avenues of funding [FEMA is funded through the Disaster Relief Fund, and the funds cannot be reappropriated for another division. Source: Congressional Budget Office; FEMA Hurrican Helene Fact Check Rumor Response]
Mike Johnson is using this lie to divide the American people and to foster a sense of distrust in FEMA, one of the agency's Donald Trump plans to gut and disable through state-by-state privatization once he enacts his harrowing Project 2025 plan.
Johnson has said, "The American people are disgusted by [the Biden Administration allegedly using FEMA money for migrant relocation], up with it, and so are Republicans in Congress. And it will stop after Nov. 5, because we’re going to have unified government with Republicans in charge and we will bring sanity back to this situation.”
Source (NBC News):
Mike Johnson won't commit to bringing House back before the election for more hurricane relief.
In a letter to congressional leaders, Biden urged Congress to restore funding to the Small Business Administration’s disaster loan program as it faces potential funding shortfalls.
By Summer Concepcion
House Speaker Mike Johnson on Sunday did not commit to calling Congress back into session before the election after President Joe Biden pressed congressional leaders about potential funding shortfalls in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
In an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” Johnson was asked about Biden’s letter to congressional leaders on Friday requesting more money for federal disaster recovery efforts and after Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas warned that the department doesn’t have enough money to get through the rest of hurricane season.
In his letter, the president urged Congress to restore funding to the Small Business Administration’s disaster loan program, which was facing potential funding shortfalls even before Hurricane Helene devastated parts of the Southeast. The president noted that the White House requested more funding for the program as Congress prepared a short-term funding bill that passed last month to avert a government shutdown.
Pressed on whether he would call Congress back into session before the election, Johnson replied, “We’ll be back in session immediately after the election.”
“That’s 30 days from now. The thing about these hurricanes and disasters of this magnitude is it takes a while to calculate the actual damages, and the states are going to need some time to do that,” Johnson said, adding that determining “specific needs and requests based upon the actual damages” from natural disasters takes time.
Johnson noted that before Congress went on recess, the day before Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida, Congress appropriated $20 billion additional dollars to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to address immediate needs.
“Then after that, Congress always takes its the due approach of providing what is necessary,” he said. “Congress will provide. We will help people in these disaster-prone areas. It’s an appropriate role for the federal government, and you’ll have bipartisan support for that, and it’ll all happen in due time, and we’ll get that job done. There shouldn’t be any concern about that.”
Johnson’s comments come after Biden said in remarks at the White House last week he expects to ask Congress for a supplemental funding request for areas affected by Hurricane Helene.
Asked at the time whether he would ask Congress to return from recess for a special session for a supplemental request, the president left the possibility open, saying, “That is something I may have to request, but no decision’s been made yet.”
Congress has taken swift action on funding natural disaster relief efforts in the past even when it was on recess, a Biden administration official noted when reached for comment.
Johnson’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Johnson was also pressed about false claims by some Republicans that FEMA was using funds on migrants who have illegally entered the country instead of on the disaster response, which White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called “categorically false” on Friday.
The speaker acknowledged that the streams of funding for the border and hurricane response are different at FEMA before going on to insist that FEMA’s mission is to help people affected by natural disasters, and not engage in funding that helps migrants who crossed the southern border.
Johnson claimed, without evidence, that the Biden administration, Vice President Kamala Harris and Mayorkas “have been engaged in this program,” saying they used taxpayer dollars to assist migrants with resettlement by reimbursing nongovernmental organizations transporting migrants into the country.
“The American people are disgusted by this, up with it, and so are Republicans in Congress,” he said. “And it will stop after Nov. 5, because we’re going to have unified government with Republicans in charge and we will bring sanity back to this situation.”
