people will make a big ass deal about nuclear energy being dangerous and yet the oil and gas industry is exposing its workers to unchecked amounts of radioactivity via its waste products, especially with the rise of fracking. bitching and moaning about "if we switch to clean energy the workers in the industry won't have their livelihoods" meanwhile it's giving them (& their families) ALL cancer and other radiation-related health issues
#2 things: the current oil & gas workers can be trained in clean energy obviously lmao#and I am not suggesting nuclear power is actively better mainly bc the people whose lands uranium is mined from are hurt by it#bc the exposed ores leach into the water supplies etc like what the US did to the Diné people#but i have never ONCE heard anti-nuclear activists bring that shit up. ever.

KOSA Bill. In three days, the bill will either pass or be disgarded. Please reblog and sign petitions. to help stop the bill by going to the stop kosa tag so we can not let the bill pass!
The definition of not safe for work content that would be censored under KOSA is vague and would of course target the LGBT community.
#not art#I'm so tired okay#A Tennessee Governor has allowed public officials to deny same sex marriages if it makes them uncomfortable#Alabama ruled that frozen embryos count as children#and would make it so women trying to get pregnant through IVF can only do so one egg at a time#Even if the egg is knowingly not viable#This process takes months and would be for nothing#Cops can open fire on you or run you over and joke about it with no consequences#As well as cop cities opening over the majority of states and being supported by Israel where they can better train our police in abuse#The industry I want to go into is experiencing massive layoffs and people simply aren't valued as it's all about shareholders and investors#And to top it all off the planet is still dying due to climate change caused by oil and gas companies and their CEOs#Both me and my mom are unemployed and we definitely couldn't afford the place we've been provided if it weren't for assistance#And I'm worried something will get screwed up and we'll just get evicted and this'll all be for nothing#I just don't see the point anymore#I only exist to provide shelter to my family as the apartment is in my name and to hopefully try and pay back those have donated to me#Besides that I just go through every day not seeing any upside to continuing to live but not committed to die

Thought as long as we're wringing our hands about the train derailment in Ohio and industrial pollution it might be a good time to review the environmental regulatory track record for Ohio on a subject I'm quite familiar with. This isn't hyperbole or fake news. I was a guard on the water treatment pads in Pennsylvania where we separated the "heavy mud" (radioactive) drilling waste and shipped it by truck to Ohio for disposal every night. Ohio and West Virginia were the primary dumping grounds via injection well disposal for all sorts of very nasty byproducts from the shale gas extraction process. You can't continue to live in a Republican libertarian fantasy. Freedom to, and freedom from, require some collective actions and no amount of individual cowboy attitude or rich kid money will stand up to industry like strong regulation. Fracking didn't turn northern tier PA into a ShangriLa of monopoly men. It's just just as backwards and broken and poor as it always was, only now there's one more thing to wonder about when the sicknesses start to accumulate. Crying about a toxic train wreck in a state known for making itself a toxic waste dump isn't going to help. You need to take this to the politicians starting with the locals and working up. We learned zoning was a great tool when higher up channels were bought out. Zone out components of the issue. Can't zone out toxic trains? Zone out something that makes them 10 times as expensive to run. Town board won't hear it? Get a new board. Don't just whine about something that was as easy to see coming down the road as anything in a state as flat as Ohio... Get busy.

The original passenger species were likely another abiological one, absorbed into the trains' own anatomy as they evolved. They are theorized to have become what we know as the engines, which were originally fueled by pure heat and pressure but differentiated either as the passengers evolved within the trains or some trains absorbed other species of passengers that gave them the ability to process other types of power.
Trains’ current passenger species regard this theory with skepticism and/or a healthy sense of dread, and some humans avoid them despite their anatomy being incompatible anyway. If that were to happen again, it would be millions of years in the future, and only to those who spent their entire lives aboard trains.
But as the environment becomes ever more polluted and hostile, doesn’t that natural air cooling and filtration seem...inviting...?
op sorry for my piss on the poor reading comprehension but when u said "trains came from the mines" in that post i thought we just like. found them down there.
Oh yeah nah that's how it happened. In our hubris we dug too deep and found beasts of fire and iron, you know how it is.
#writing#trains#worldbuilding#creepy#my writing#(may actually start using that tag if ppl like this sort of thing)#this is based on what we know of mitochondria#namely we're pretty sure they were once separate bacteria as they have distinct DNA#+the consensus is that it's far more likely that mitochondria predate chloroplasts than the first eukaryotes had them and most lost them#but I couldn't find a direct answer to whether we think they're evolved/adapted mitochondria or proto-plants ate a second type of bacteria#trainverse canon is that steam and electric each have the original type of 'enginites' (cursory name) + a distinct secondary type#which it is unknown whether evolved or was absorbed in the respective new environment (ocean or shallow-earth)#and what we know as other modern or hybrid forms of power arose from - as the first post said - crossbreeding#ergo having some ratio of all three types rather than an actual new one - which has not developed in millions of years#this would mean the world jumped straight from a few millennia(!) of steampunk to electric THEN discovered/started using diesel oil and gas#this world's cars - made in the image of trains starting midway through the steam age - would consequently also be mostly steam or electric
