Pianist. (Oikawa fic)
pianist!Oikawa, aged up characters, slowburn (?), Oikawa x reader
Mainly inspired by the piano shop I always pass by whenever i went home back when I was still in junior high. They always had this high school pianist playing one of their displayed piano every 4-5 in the afternoon. I never saw his face which disappoints me :(
He once played the piano with someone, too! And he played it with a kid too
When the familiar bakery that you used to drop by every time you walk home after school announced the shutting down of their operations, you didn't mind.
And when you learned that a piano shop would replace the bakery, you didn't mind either.
But when you saw a young boy, with his back facing yours, gliding their fingers along the keys of the black piano of the piano shop, you kind of got curious.
It was a warm afternoon. The sky is painted with an orange hue and the streets were not as busy as they usually are. A perfect afternoon, you hummed as you walk along the streets towards the bus terminal.
It was quiet not until faint piano keys kissed your ears.
Your steps went into a halt and looking to your right, you see a young boy, with his back facing yours, gliding their fingers along the keys of the black piano of the newly opened piano shop.
The music was faint and so, this made you crave for more. Tiny steps were made and before you knew it, your hands are pressed at the glass that separated you from the peculiar pianist.
His head wobbled every time his fingers reached for the keys, his brunette hair bouncing along. You were able to glimpse with the outline of his lashes and the tip of his nose whenever he looked from side to side.
His fingers are notable, too. They look long and soft from your view. And the way they danced along the surface of the piano made your jaw drop in awe. It's as if the piano was a part of him and his hands expertly rummaged along the keys.
"Are you interested to play?"
You look to your left and is startled to see a woman standing in front of you. With the color of her shirt mimicking the color of the piano shop's exterior, you knew she worked there.
You look at the glass wall again and gasped as the mysterious pianist is now looking at you. His upper body facing towards you, his eyes gleaming with the strikes of the glass wall. His skin had a soft orange glow with the sunset light. His brows were lifted as he stared at you in the eye.
You were embarrassed. You bashfully ran away.
It was an experience you wish both parties forgot. And it took you long to recover from the shy.
Your hands clutched tight on the strap of your bag as you stopped at the familiar piano shop.
You turn to the glass wall, breathing hitched and heart raising. The thought of him remembering how embarrassing you were that day made your stomach upset but nonetheless, you took your shot.
You looked at the glass wall and there he was.
His back, once again, facing yours. His body slightly dancing as his hands expertly pressed the right keys to press. You were allowed to see a glimpse of his smirk from time to time whenever his head tilted sideways.
And just with that, the nervousness vanished. Replaced by a warm fuzzy feeling as you stare at the mysterious brunette playing on the black instrument.
The doors are closed so you weren't given a taste of his music. You pouted as the tip of your finger pressed the glass wall. What could he be playing? A question you'd probably never get the answer.
I guess that's enough for now. With a smile, you looked away and proceeded to walking.
This happened the next few weeks after. Walking towards the terminal, you'd stop by at the shop. A five minute glance on his back swaying as he played, you'd proceed to walking with a satisfied grin.
This was more than enough. Or so you thought.
Hailing a cab could've been easier but you refuse to skip your daily afternoon ritual. You must stop by at the shop.
So, despite the heavy rain and with your school uniform as the only thing that is keeping you from getting entirely wet, you went towards the shop.
You cursed along the way as you've suffered from the puddles of water and the splashes of collected rain from reckless drivers as you walked. Curse this rain.
A sense of relief washed your body as you sought refuge at the roof of the piano shop. You gripped the ends of your cold skirt tight, your lips shivering as droplets of water fell from your crumpled skirt.
You combed through your wet hair in the attempts of fixing yourself. Feeling satisfied, you look towards the glass wall.
Though the rain was hard and the air was cold, you had the warmest smile on your face as your expectant eye scanned the interior of the shop, your wet hand wiping the fog of the wall.
And when you spotted him, the smile on your face surprisingly disappeared as you realized he isn't alone like the usual. He is with someone.
The fog isn't enough to conceal how the mysterious pianist is now warm from the cold. His neck hugged by a warm-looking scarf. And his hands, surprisingly, are not attending the keys as his left held a mug and his other held the hands of the person beside him.
The ray of hope vanished as you see them in front of you. The way his hands fondled the fingers of those beside him made you scowl. But when he lifted their head, kissing their knuckles as his eyes never left their face, the scowl faded.
It turned to a frown. Then the frown went blank.
Your hands slowly dropped from being glued to the glass wall. You blinked as droplets of rain are threatening to intrude in your eyes. You turned your back, now facing the almost floody street.
God. You just want to go home.
The next day, you fell sick. And no words can express how grateful you were that you had an excuse to not drop by at the shop.
The next week, you avoided the shop still. But it wasn't because you still had the fever. It was because your heart felt sick.
The next-next week, you received a confession from an admirer. You were skeptical.
"Are you seeing someone?" They asked.
The pianist. The back of your mind screamed. But you are no delusional so you shook your head.
"Then let's go out together," your admirer concluded.
Days spent together with your admirer was like eating an affordable cake. It was unsurprisingly dry. But still, you want more of it just to satiate your hunger at least.
When your lover asked to walk you home, you hesitated. But nonetheless, you let them tag along with you.
Your heart ramming wild as you see the familiar signage of the shop. Block of unknown forces at your throat as your stomach churned.
You flinched when your lover held you at your waist. You looked to your left.
The mysterious pianist was alone. Unlike when you last saw him, his body rocked back and forth slowly. His fingers were dragging along the keys and you don't get to see the wobbling of his head.
His shoulders were slouched. He looks sad and this made you worry. Is he okay?
You wanted to step closer and to reach for him but before you could even lift your foot, the force of your lover dragged you away from the outside of the shop.
You cursed your lover. No. It wasn't just because of that incident.
Like an affordable cake, it eventually dried your throat, making you feel suffocated and sick. The affordability could not compensate with the disgust that you are now feeling.
You want out but your lover begs to disagree so you walked away.
Your heart heavy, ears hot, and with your tears threatening to fall with every stomp, you marched the route towards your terminal. Exhaling from time to time with the overwhelming disappointment and anger.
None could uplift your anger. Not even the mysterious pianist.
Without even noticing, you are now in front of the piano shop. Looking to your right, you see the brunette seating at the stool. But what is weird is that the piano case is closed and his hands are attending to papers rather than the keys.
You exhaled through your nose before walking again.
You grew.
You'd like to think you did.
You grew wiser after that horrible experience of 'love'. You didn't try entering into one again. Not when you're feeling half-assed.
Today, you walked towards the terminal. And today, you decided to drop by at the piano shop.
There he was at the spot where you always see him before.
He wore something casual today. Wearing only a simple black shirt, for the very first time, you are given the chance to see his bare arms. They weren't muscular but they weren't skinny either. Slightly honed but not too much that they'd look odd.
You lift your gaze and you see his nape, making you blush as it felt like watching him naked.
A smile creeps into your lips as your hands run through the glass wall.
And just like how you were when you were younger, you proceeded to walking. Feeling satisfied with this less than a minute interaction.
Change is inevitable.
You zipped your case as you stood from kneeling on the floor. You dragged the suitcase along with you as walked out from the house you've considered as home for the past decade and a couple of years.
It was inside of the hailed cab when it dawned to you. You're leaving and you're never coming back. The gentle touch of your mother nor the hearty chortle of your father could not console your weeping heart.
You will never see your friends again. Or the familiar streets you have been walking. Or the familiar faces of your neighbors.
You will never see the pianist again on your way home.
You closed your eyes tight. You never had the chance to know his name. It's...the end. It's gone.
You open your eyes wide this time.
A funny grin at your lips as you winced with the embarrassment of such memory.
Seasoned by trials and struggles in life, you're the wisest version of yourself. A chuckle escaping your lips as you remember how you felt so hopeless when you had to move away.
Well, if you really missed it then I guess we're back.
Your hands embraced your arms, wary of the surroundings. Funny how you whined about these streets as your home and here you are now, feeling foreign and unfamiliar as you revisit it after years have passed.
It doesn't feel nostalgic. At all.
Well, maybe a little.
Your feet unconsciously lead you towards a familiar shop. A particular shop you loved to drop by whenever you were on your way home.
With the years that passed by, the shop grew old. No longer was the pasted tarpaulins vibrant in color. The little plants that served as tiny barricades in front are now gone. Even the grand piano displays are now different in brand and color. You don't even see the same lady who asked you the very first time you went here.
This isn't the shop you used to love.
You run your fingers on the glass wall, creating a screeching sound as friction stood in the middle of your skin and the glass. Your eyes darting at the grandest piano at the center, unattended.
If this was before, the familiar pianist could've been sitting there, his back facing yours as his body rocked lightly with the dance of his hands. Instead, you see an 8-year old boy and his poor attempts of sitting at the high stool, finding the task difficult as his hands are attending his thick music notes.
You furrowed your brows. An 8-year old what?
Your face went near the glass, blinking as you try to recheck if your eyes were playing tricks. But they aren't. You indeed are seeing an 8-year old boy now comfortably sitting at the stool.
And just when your brain is starting to formulate questions, you feel a presence beside you. This made you stand straight as you look at the direction where the presence is from.
You froze. And he did, too. The pianist did, too.
It has been so long when you last saw him. Not to mention, the only time you were able to see his face was when you were flustered from the lady's question. It has been so long you actually forgot how he looks like. It's just you chose to linger with the memory blindly.
But now, here he is. The mysterious pianist. His air of mystery finally stripping away as you have finally, after all these years, see his bare face. And this time, clearer.
His brunette hair is not as long as they did back then. It is still fluffy-looking but it is shorter in length. His eyes are round and they are the same color with his hair. You exhaled in awe as your eyes traveled to his pointy nose and thin lips, then to his other noteable features like his sunburned cheeks and the faint stubble on his jaw.
You blinked. He looks beautiful.
"I'm sorry, I startled you," he spoke and your heart beated violently. His voice is deep, something you expected. What you didn't expect is how it made your heart flutter and your ears craving.
You couldn't respond. Your mind is a mess. Your thoughts tangled like a kitten's yarn. Your mouth freezing in place as your tongue poorly tried to roll out words.
"Are you...interested to play?" He asked when he received no respond from you.
You closed your mouth, eyes glued at his but this time, you are calmer. Though it contrasts how your hands are pathetically clinging to one another as your toes curled inside your shoes, you are calm. Yes, you are.
Slowly, your shock faltered, a small smile plastering at your lips as you did a small nod.
"Sure," you finally said the word you've been meaning to respond to the lady from the past.
And, "What's your name?" you finally asked the question you've been meaning to ask the mysterious pianist ever since you heard him play.

Haikyuu Fics: The Classics™️
EDIT: pt 2!!
I wanted to make a post to archive what I would call “The Classics” as far as Haikyuu fanfic on ao3 goes. For anyone new to the daunting world of Haikyuu fanfiction, these works are probably the most popular, talked-about works throughout the fandom, so they are a good place to start! I haven’t read some of these, but the reason I included them is that I’ve seen so much hype around them. Comment the ones I missed, and I’m definitely going to be doing a part 2. Enjoy <3 :D
*contains nsfw fics* READ TAGS BEFORE U READ
⭑=my faves
BOKUAKA
Rules by ConesOfDunshire⭑
E, 120 k words
Accountant Akaashi. Pianist Bokuto. WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT??? This fic is seriously novel-worthy, and Bokuto having Asperger’s is a beautiful component to the story. I found that the characterization and the attention to detail the author put into the story is what made it a truly distinguishable and unique fic that allowed it to rise to the top. It is worth every kudos, comment, bookmark, and more. Highly recommend.
Behind Bricks by DeathBelle⭑
E, 60 k words, cw: prostitution, choking, and heavy content so READ THE TAGS
This darker fic follows Akaashi as he deals with his life as a prostitute, and how Bokuto comes in and is able to change it for the better. I feel sometimes that heavy topics such as the trauma from sex work are really misrepresenting in fanfiction, but the author does a great job of portraying it in a real way and not romanticizing it at all. I loved to watch love bloom for Akaashi in the cracks of his tumultuous life, because he deserves everything <333
In Another Life by LittleLuxray⭑
T, 22 k words, cw: terminal illness, hospitals, major character death
As the highest-rated Haikyuu fanfic on ao3, this work is a monument and will go down in Haikyuu history. That being said, it honestly did such a number on me that I think it deserves the hype. This hospital au revolving around Akaashi and Bokuto’s budding relationship is truly heartbreaking, to say the least. Read it at your own risk, and oh, you can find references to it under almost any Bokuaka related post.
IWAOI
Conquering the Great King by SuggestiveScribe
105 k words, E
This rollercoaster of a fic, set in a universe where Oikawa and Iwaizumi meet in a bar, is funny, profound, and awe-inspiring all in one. The relationship dynamic between the two is very cute and well-done. I highly recommend this one if you are a sucker for some good, old Iwaoi, and I also love the side pairings. Just, overall, a really nice and satisfying read.
the courtship ritual of the hercules beetle by kittebasu(chanyeol)
T, 66.3k words, cw: injury, homophobia
This fic is a favorite on tik tok, from what I’ve observed. I haven’t read it yet, but when people discuss it, they always commend the writing and the non-linear narrative. I have personally not read this one yet, but I have seen people rave about this one because of the emotional impact it had on them. It seems to me that the writing and emotions on this one are its claims to fame, so definitely check it out.
Desperado by Verbrennung
M, 82k words
Talk about raved about fics, I have seen this one mentioned countless times on various platforms. This Iwaoi fic is set in a Vegas/Japan fusion setting, which immediately caught my eye. The premise of a heist fic also is probably what caught people's attention the most, because what is better than an Iwaoi heist fic (nothing. nothing is better.) I recommend this if you want a bit of a longer fic that had a tumultuous plot and a wild romance.
SAKUATSU
Burden of Blame by DeathBelle⭑
E, 91k words, cw: graphic violence, guns, ptsd, panic attacks, murder, death, injury and more so READ TAGS
Burden of Blame is THE mafia au fic of the Haikyuu ao3 universe. I love this fic soooo much. From it’s wild plot to the flawless writing, I was constantly on my feet. I definitely recommend if you want something that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Also, the enemies to lovers is CHEFS FUCKING KISS.
A Liar’s Truth by internetpistol⭑
E, 49.6k words, cw: HOMOPHOBIA!! read tags pls
Oh. My. God. I simply cannot with this fic. It turned me inside out, upside down, and threw me into the void. Please, if you have one singular brain cell, you will read this fic. This narrative about Sakusa’s life and his relationship with his sexuality is a masterpiece. I cannot recommend this one enough. You do not want to miss out on this genuine piece of art.
Stick With You by lettersinpetals
E, 99k words
This fic follows Sakusa and Atsumu as they get stuck in the Philippines over quarantine. Honestly, if you want an enemies to lovers that really goes in depth into the trope, this is the one for you. One of my favorite things about this fic is the inclusion of the Filipino language, and I found myself reading all of the translations at the end. I would recommend this if you want a longer, feel good Sakuatsu fic. Also, lettersinpetals is a Sakuatsu classic author.
the Terminal Curiosity series by favspacetwink and moonlumie
E, total 112k words, not finished, 8 works, READ TAGS
This fic is probably the notorious BDSM fic, which I’m glad because it portrays it in a very consensual and safe way. I’m personally not into that stuff, but I still was able to enjoy it for the plot and the amazing writing. I definitely recommend it if you are looking for something with BDSM components with some focus on their relationship dynamics too. I actually did really enjoy this fic, and I think the way their relationship kind of progressed backward was really, really good. Even if BDSM isn’t your cup of tea, I still recommend checking this one out and reading the tags to see if it is something you’re willing to give a chance too, because, for me, it paid off.
KUROKEN
the galaxy is endless (i thought we were, too) by cosmogony
T, 30.9k words, cw: illness, DEATH
I have yet to read this fic. I am genuinely too afraid. Similarly to In Another Life, I constantly see people discussing to the degree in which this fic destroyed them, and honestly after In Another Life, I don’t think I could handle another one. This soulmates au has crushed so many people throughout the fandom that if you want someone to give you more detail on why it’s the saddest thing ever, you probably wouldn’t have to look very far.
Of Monsters and Men by shions_heart
M, 220k words, cw: violence, temporary character death
This longer fic follows Kuroo, Kenma, and many others through a demon hunter/buffy the vampire-style universe, with magic, drama, and much more. If you are looking for a fantasy, action-packed, beautifully written fic, this is definitely one you should check out. The romance and action combination will always be chefs kiss, superb.

Title: Open Tab
Author: Mooifyourecows @mooifyourecows is the author of the two following fics
No Archive warnings
Rating: E
Ship: Daichi/Sugawara (DaiSuga)
Length: 56 chapters, 541,570 words
Status: Unfinished but it ends on an acceptable note.
Author’s summary: All Sugawara wants is a little inspiration. All Daichi wants is for his regulars to finally pay off their tab. All everyone else wants is to drink good liquor and watch as their best friends struggle.
The words in the stars say: I’ve read this fic so many times. Even with it being 56 chapters and 541,570 words, it’s SO GOOD. The character development Suga goes through with and without Daichi brings so much to talk about. I’m not one for angst but when it hit (don’t worry it’s a happy ending) it made this fic more loveable in my eyes. I loved the side pair content, all my favs were there. IwaOi and MatsuHana side pairs? Yes please. It’s written so well and with the dick jokes, constant amazing karaoke, and dynamic between art student Suga and bartender Daichi, I couldn’t be laughing any harder or know anymore knowledge about alcohol.
I rate this fic 10 aliens out of 10, absolutely worth the read.

Title: Misery’s Company
Author: Mooifyourecows (another by them, they’re an amazing author!!)
No Archive warnings
Rating: E
Ship: Daichi/Sugawara (DaiSuga)
Length: 10 chapters, 62,124 words
Status: Completed
Author’s summary: Sugawara Koushi hates his boyfriend. Fortunately for him, so does Sawamura Daichi.Together, they come up with a plan to make his life miserable. And fail in exactly the way you'd expect them to.
The words in the stars say: Another fic I cannot and will not stop reading and recommending. This is definitely one of my comfort fics that should be yours too. I love the tone throughout the story and how Suga’s goal changes overtime. Oh my god. Did I see head over heels Daichi for a revenge looking badass Suga?? Yes I did. I’m not one to spoil, but if you’re looking for something to read where you’ll be shouting “YES!!” and pumping your fists into the air, first of all, me too. Second of all this is your fic! This is a heart warming read full of bittersweet revenge and growth. The details for both main characters should not go unnoticed and please PLEASE if you’ve read this fic, talk to me about it.
I rate this 10 aliens out of 10.

Title: Rules
Author: ConesofDunshire
No Archive warnings
Rated: E
Ship: Bokuto/Akaashi (BokuAka)
Length: 20 chapters, 120,327 words
Status: Completed
Author’s summary: In which Akaashi Keiji is an overworked accountant who stumbles upon Bokuto one night playing the piano in the lobby of his work. Bokuto is different, that much is obvious. But with such supreme musical talent and a smile so dazzling it rivals the sun, there's just something about him that brings Akaashi back every night.
The words in the stars say: Rules was one of my first bokuaka fics I read and I’m so glad it was. This story follows pianist Bokuto and tired accountant Akaashi. Akaashi, intrigued by music playing in his office building, finds a man, Bokuto, sitting on the piano bench. When I think of this fic I remember awing like they do in those stupid old sitcoms and laughing at Akaashi’s coworkers with their habit of gambling. I also read the second fic following Kuroo and Terushima, “Need” by ConesofDunshire, and I was not at all disappointed. I adored the side KenHina with their family of cats and DaiSuga as married neighbors.
I rate this 10 aliens out of 10. Always a favorite read rain or shine.

Title: Only Fools Fall
Author: oseltamivir_phosphate @dahliadenoire on tumblr,,
No Archive warnings
Rated: M
Ship: Iwaizumi/Oikawa (IwaOi)
Length: 6 chapters, 126,760 words
Status: Completed
Author’s summary: Oikawa had always wanted to be an alpha like Iwaizumi. He hated being a beta – the lesser status, but not entirely the least. That was until he experienced his first heat during his second year in university, and he wonders if it's too late to turn back into a beta.
The words in the stars say: Don’t runaway when I tell you this but...this fic is Omegaverse. NOW, NOW, DONT GO. I SWEAR, IT’S WRITTEN WELL SO ITS NOT WEIRD. Seriously, I’ve had some bad experiences with Omegaverse where I never wanted to read it again, but I love IwaOi so I gave this a chance and boy there was hope for Omegaverse in my mind after reading. I knew it was gonna be good when I saw the chapters were named after songs, linked in the notes. This fic orbits Alpha Iwa and Oikawa, who’s supposed to be a Beta. Shoutout to all my BL readers, sir pulled a Hyesung. RIP Oiks. Fortunately for Oikawa, Iwa is there for him whether its bringing curly fries to lure Oikawa out of his room or defending him during his weakest moments. I don’t want to give too much away but even if you aren’t a fan of Omegaverse I would still totally recommend you to read this.
I rate it 10 aliens out of 10.

Fic Rec Time!! Pt.4!
Some really great fanfics are here!
I apologize in advance if I’ve already written some of them in my earlier fic rec posts. Also, this post is very long.
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Haikyuu!!
national hot dad alliance is now calling... by dicaeopolis, owlinaminor
Relationships: Sawamura Daichi/Sugawara Koushi, Bokuto Koutarou/Akaashi Keiji, Iwaizumi Hajime/Oikawa Tooru, Kuroo Tetsurou/Kozume Kenma, Ushijima Wakatoshi/Tendou Satori
Words: 58214 | Chapters: 6/6
Sawamura Daichi: What the fuck.
(Or, the captains' squad interactions that definitely happen outside of canon, presented in Skype chat form.)
the dream that wakes you up by rarepairenabler
Relationship: Kuroo Tetsurou/Oikawa Tooru
Words: 38,277 | Chapters: 9/9
Oikawa’s offering a repeat performance of that night, the night that Kuroo’s been replaying in his mind ever since it happened. Fuck.
“You’re not that good,” Kuroo argues weakly but Oikawa looks like he knows he’s already won.
“I am that good.” There isn't a single trace of doubt to it. His confidence would be nauseating if Kuroo didn’t know firsthand that there was good reason for it. Oikawa laughs and outstretches his hand to Kuroo. “So what do you say, Kuroo? Do we have a deal?”
Kuroo sighs before offering a resigned grin. He takes Oikawa’s hand and shakes it firmly. “When do we get started?”
((Pretend Dating AU))
In Another Life by LittleLuxray
Relationship: Akaashi Keiji/Bokuto Koutarou
Words: 22,995 | Chapters: 1/1 | Warning: Major Character Death
Sleeping didn't come as easy as it used to. Bokuto knew this, and now Akaashi did, too.
The hospital AU that no body asked for, but that I took upon myself to write.
Personal Notes: This is very angsty and you all can have it with Bokuaka. Check Nero’s art too!!
the inherent eroticism of coordinating schedules by mozaikmage
Relationships: Kuroo Tetsurou/Sawamura Daichi, Oikawa Tooru & Ushijima Wakatoshi
Words: 15,447 | Chapters: 2/2
Tetsurou Kuroo, Editor-in-Chief of the college lit mag "Langue de Chat," thinks the lit mag and the Flying Crows Dance Crew should do an inter-club collaboration. Dance Crew captain Daichi Sawamura isn't sure how that's going to work. Meanwhile, the Environmental Club and Anime Club butt heads over a scheduling conflict involving the school auditorium.
An AU in which all of the Haikyuu!! volleyball teams are instead different school clubs at one university.
Impulse by Metis_Ink
Relationship: Shirabu Kenjirou/Semi Eita
Words: 15,075 | Chapters: 1/1
Semi’s not sure how subtle the team is trying to be, but there must be some ungodly conspiracy pointed against him. It’s working in the sense that Semi is half aware that maybe this rivalry with Shirabu is a lot more troublesome than it seems, but really, that’s all he's getting.
Or
Second year Semi Eita faces the downward spiral that is his life following the arrival of some first year setter who's way too cocky for his own good.
The Five Stages Of Grief by Finnis
Words: 17,150 | Chapters: 5/5
Set of 100 drabbles, Haikyuu!! cast-centric (especially Shiratorizawa). 5 sets of 20.
Shirabu howls in pain as he regards both Tendou and Goshiki with his lethal stare that could probably outmatch Medusa. “Are you both fucking thick?” He asks incredulously, not expecting an actual answer.
Tendou grins, waggling his eyebrows, and playfully slaps his thigh. “Obviously.”
The PDA jar by orphan_account
Relationships: Iwaizumi Hajime/Oikawa Tooru
Words: 10,480 | Chapters: 1/1
“What is that thing for?”
“I’m glad you asked, captain. This… is the Public Display of Affection jar. Or PDA jar for short.”
“Now whenever you do something that may hurt our children’s innocence, you’ll have to put money in the jar as a punishment."

Words: 89,720 | Chapters: 3/3
“I’m Tsukishima Kei, from the Athena cabin.”
Kuroo blinked at him a few times, before cautiously taking Tsukishima’s pale, slender hand into his own much larger, much broader and tanner hand. He had scars and callouses that didn’t come from games of capture the flag.
“Kuroo.”
He didn’t say who his parent was.
or, Tsukishima had seen everything there was to see at Camp Half Blood. That is, until Kuroo Tetsurou fell out of the sky.
The Star-Crossed Voyage by Stacysmash
Relationship: Akaashi Keiji/Bokuto Koutarou
Words: 109,134 | Chapters: 11/11
As private investigators, Akaashi and Bokuto hardly ever have time for a vacation, no matter how much they need one. After successfully handling an investigation for the wealthy Oikawa Tooru, they're invited on board his yacht for a leisurely three-day cruise with several other guests. Instead of relaxation, however, what they receive is the case of a lifetime.
hachiko by owlinaminor
Relationship: Kuroo Tetsurou/Oikawa Tooru
Words: 12,683 | Chapters: 1/1
Agreeing to watch Iwaizumi's dog for the summer was a bad idea. Not because Oikawa Tooru is a bad caretaker (he isn't), but because of this asshole he keeps running into.

Words: 213,084 | Chapters: 41/41 | Warning: Mature Content
“If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen,” is a popular saying… heat, however, is the least dangerous thing one should worry about in a kitchen. Between the fire, sharp utensils, red hot pans, the Mandolin God, and lunatic co-workers, Kuroo has his work cut out for him when he returns home from Paris after nine years to open his own restaurant. He’s determined to show off — ahem, to demonstrate all that he’s learned at the helm of world renowned chefs in Michelin Star kitchens.
Bokuto Koutarou tends to have more passion than sense. He joins Kuroo’s brigade on a whim after nearly slicing his hand off… and realizes just how much knowledge he’s actually lacking. He’s worked in kitchens his entire life, but none like Kuroo’s kitchen so, with excitement and trepidation, he throws himself into his work with Kuroo. And when he meets a lovely model named Akaashi, he decides to use his new found knowledge to help Akaashi fall in love with him. After all, the fastest way to a man’s heart is his stomach — right?
I'm sorry by BlazingNerz

Atsumu didn’t really know when it all started, he just knew he was different. The urges-- They drove him. And did the same for his friends as well. Red, that’s what they would see when they snap, the sound around them would disappear and the background around them faded until their target is the only object clear in their line of sight. The urge grows and grows, their anxiety grows until it is unbearable. Their palms would itch, eyes would twitch and could barely process a thought, they have to do something about it.
So they do.
Atsumu knew that him and his friends weren’t normal, but he didn’t question it. They had a system and it worked, now if only their damn partners would get off their backs. -------------
Aka Atsumu and his friends just try to live normal lives while suffering with a mental illness that urges them to kill
True Colors by DeathBelle
Relationship: Semi Eita/Tendou Satori
Words: 52,243 | Chapters: 11/11 | Warning: Explicit
Semi has danced at so many clubs that he hardly even notices a difference when he moves from city to city. It's always the same crowds no matter where he goes, and he always has to share a stage with the same backstabbing assholes. That's just how the club scene works, and he knows Plumage won't be any different.
Except instead of talking shit and sabotaging him, the dancers at Plumage initiate a different sort of harassment that involves repeated attempts to befriend him and non-optional invitations out to dinner. It's almost worse this way, because at least in the past, Semi had known what to expect.
The worst of them all is Tendou Satori, who is unrelenting in his pursuit of friendship, despite how many times Semi shoots him down. Tendou is obnoxious and never learned the art of taking a hint, and despite his best efforts, Semi gradually finds himself hating Tendou's company less and less. It's a perilous slope, and Semi keeps sliding.

Piano Man
Category: Romantic Fluff
Fandom: Haikyuu!!
Characters: Hajime Iwaizumi, Tooru Oikawa
Hello, everyone! I’m happy to present my story for the Seijoh Exchange for my giftee, kamunamis! I hope you all enjoy a good dose of IwaOi AU fluff!
Hajime scrubbed the residue from the whiskey glass with a thin white rag, then lifted it over his head to inspect the surface, using the refraction of the fluorescent lights in the crystalline surface to illuminate any specks he might have missed. Once he was satisfied that the glass was indeed clean, he set it beside the rest of the clean glasses before picking up the next dirty one, cleaning the soap residue away. While he used his thumb to push the rag against the sleek glass, he lifted his brown eyes to sweep across the bar, making sure he hadn’t missed any new customers while attending to his other chores.
The old man who’d been throwing back beers like water for the last hour was still going strong, smacking his lips lazily while he watched the volleyball game on the television hanging above the bar. The college student who’d been flirting with a sorority girl had apparently failed in his attempts at courtship because he was now sitting alone and grumbling into his hard cider. The pair of young moms who’d come out for a girls’ night had abandoned their martinis to sip at their waters, sobering up to return home to their children. The alcoholic who’d come in for his daily dose of bourbon was now passed out asleep, filling the air with loud, obnoxious snores. Hajime tipped his head at the bouncer, Issei, indicating it was time to wake the man up and call him a cab.
Hajime liked his job, all things considered. Though it was hard, and sometimes he had to deal with the most blockheaded of society, it was well worth it for the things he overhead. Working in a job like this, he had really come to appreciate just how colorful people were.
For example, those two moms were actually single moms— both of their husbands had perished in active duty, and they’d bonded over their struggles. He’d learned today that one of them actually had a date in a few days, and he’d congratulated her by giving them their first two martinis on the house. The sleeping drunkard had squandered his life savings gambling, leading to a nasty divorce, and now he just nursed his sorrows with alcohol instead. The gang of sorority girls giggling over margaritas in the corner was celebrating their finals for the semester, all congratulating each other on earning top marks. Hajime saw the highs and the lows of society, a rainbow of colorful folks from all walks of life.
Yet his eyes always drifted to the door when the most colorful of the bunch to frequent the bar strode in.
Tooru Oikawa smiled prettily at the waitress as she passed by carrying a tray laden with drinks, making her flush and hurry away as fast as her wedges could carry her. A few of the men watching the volleyball game at a table covered in empty glasses and the remnants of bar snacks raised their drinks to him, and he paused to chat amicably with them about the state of the game before bidding them a pleasant night. As he strutted across the bar, he shrugged out of his coat and tossed it over his shoulder, then rolled the sleeves of his button-up shirt to just below his elbows. Hajime couldn’t help the way he swallowed thickly at the way Tooru’s muscles gleamed in the lowlight of the bar— how did a pianist have such defined arm muscles, for crying out loud?
Tooru was the bar’s hired musician. He came in three nights a week— Ladies’ Night, their Friday Happy Hour, and Saturday Game Days— to provide live music via the large grand piano that sat on the small stage in the corner. His music was always a hit, and the regular customers liked his electric and charming personality— especially the waitresses, so Hajime always had to be extra vigilant in making sure they were actually delivering their orders instead of ogling at the pretty musician. Admittedly, Hajime was also a fair bit jealous and wanted to be the only one to stare at the handsome man, but like hell he would ever admit that aloud.
“You’re staring.”
Hajime nearly jumped out of his skin as Issei spoke. He shot a cold look at the taller man, making the bouncer tip back his head in laughter. Snorting, Hajime stomped over to the other end of the bar to tend to a customer, then walked back to begin mixing rum and various fruit juices into a glass. “You can’t blame me,” Issei purred as he leaned against the counter, his amused eyes watching the streams of alcohol and fruit juice cascade down into the glass. “Your pining over him is one of the few things that brings me entertainment.”
“Yeah, well, it’s not very entertaining to me,” Hajime gruffed back, shooting him a glare before carrying the rum punch over to the girl who’d ordered it. He snatched up another glass to begin cleaning it on the way back, still glaring at Issei. “Why do you always come over here to nag me about him?”
“Besides the fact that you look at him like you want to jump his bones?” Issei laughed, and Hajime threw his rag at him. Issei pulled it off his face and dropped it on the counter, and Hajime snatched it back up to resume cleaning the glass. “Come on, Hajime, it’s painful watching you pine over him. Just grow a pair and ask him out already!”
“Please,” Hajime snorted in derision, setting the clean cup down and picking up another. “A guy like that? You know he’s taken.” Someone at the bar called for another beer, so Hajime ignored the way that Issei’s eyes gleamed knowingly to grab one out of the freezer and carry it over to the man. When he came back, Issei was drumming his fingers against the wood of the counter, leaning his cheek in his hand while he gazed at Hajime like he knew something downright devilish.
“Come on, Hajime, you’re insulting my skill as a wingman,” Issei hummed. “I know for a fact that he’s single, and I know for a fact that he thinks you’re cute.”
Hajime’s face blazed bright pink, and he froze on the spot, struggling to process what Issei said. A girl came up to the bar pleasantly asking for a daiquiri, and it took Issei reaching forward to nudge his arm for him to snap out of his stupor. After hurriedly grabbing the ingredients and throwing him in the blender, he leaned over the counter to ask over the crunching ice and swirling fruit juice, “He thinks I’m cute?”
“Very,” Issei smirked with a meaningful wiggle of his eyebrows. Hajime’s gaze slowly drifted to Tooru, who was now sitting at the piano. Behind his glasses, his eyes were intensely focused, but a smile alit his lips as his fingers glided across the keys. Hajime had honestly never cared about the music; Tooru’s movements just seemed like magic every time he played, his body moving so languidly in rhythm with the sweet chimes of the keys. He forgot to blink, forgot to breathe even as he watched him, so he definitely forgot about the daiquiri. “Hajime, your drink,” the bouncer chuckled while snapping his fingers in front of Hajime’s face, making the ravenet jump slightly and hurry to finish making the drink before the girl’s pleasant attitude took a nosedive.
“Look, man,” Issei said when Hajime slumped back against the counter in front of him, pouting as he ruminated on whether or not to finally ask Tooru out. “If you don’t make a move soon, someone else will, and I shudder to think of how grumpy you’ll get watching him strut around with someone else.”
Hajime’s lips curled down into a frown just thinking about it. No, he would not enjoy that at all. Still, it was always a drag, asking someone out— even if Issei had given him a fair bit of confidence that Tooru wouldn’t refuse. He drummed his fingers on the table as he studied the wood grain of the counter in contemplation. Finally, he grumbled, “All right, all right, I’ll do it if it means getting you of my ass.”
“You wound me,” Issei huffed and splayed a hand over his heart in mock hurt. “I go to the trouble of wingmanning for you, and you treat me like this? You’re so cold.”
“Shut up and get back to the door,” Hajime said gruffly, shoving Issei lightly in the shoulder. Still, a smile danced on his lips, one that Issei didn’t miss. The tall man simply hummed “Good luck~” as he headed back to the door, leaving Hajime to figure out how in the hell he was supposed to ask a guy like Tooru Oikawa out on a date without looking stupid. Hajime was good at pretty much only one thing, and that was making drinks.
Wait. That might just be to his advantage, he thought, his gaze sliding to the bottles of liquor lining the back wall. He sidled up to the shelves, crossing his arms as he studied the various drinks; he then looked over his shoulder at Tooru, who was lost in the piano notes. Yeah… Yeah, I think that’ll do, he thought and looked back at the shelves, then leaned up to grab a bottle of vodka and some sour apple liqueur. I think this’ll do just fine.
Hajime approached Tooru as he was taking a break. The piano player straddled the bench, kicking his feet against the solid wood while he watched the volleyball game with interest. He saw Hajime approaching from the periphery, and when he turned to look at him, his eyes brightened with delight. It made Hajime’s heart stutter; half of him wanted to grin like mad, and half of him wanted to hurl the caramel apple martini in Tooru’s face for some inexplicable reason.
“Ooh? Is that for me?” Tooru crooned with delight when he saw the green drink in his hand. “I hope it isn’t a replacement for my paycheck,” he joked as he shifted on the bench, sliding over to allow room for Hajime to sit. Hajime gave Tooru the martini as he sat down, and he watched the brunet study the caramel swirls on the inside of the cup, the green liquid swirling within, and the apple slice garnishing the rim with more interest than he wanted to show. With a pointed look at Hajime, Tooru sipped at the martini, then pulled away while smacking his lips. “Wow. That’s a good drink, Mr. Bartender.”
“I thought you’d like it, Piano Man,” Hajime smirked. “You seem the type to enjoy fruity martinis.”
“Oh no, did the bouncer tell you?” Tooru said with a playful pout, leaning in a little close to Hajime’s face. He blushed on instinct, and looked at Issei to find him smothering a laugh with his hand. “That rascal,” Tooru continued with a rumble in his voice that made Hajime’s nerves sing. “I thought I could trust him.”
“Issei?” Hajime huffed. “You can’t trust him as far as you can throw him.” His blase humor could always help him keep his cool. Thankfully, Tooru laughed, his eyes glittering as he studied Hajime over the rim of the martini. His nervousness returning, Hajime’s tongue flicked out to wet his lips. Immediately, Tooru’s eyes flicked down to his mouth and then back up to his eyes, and Hajime swore his face was going to catch on fire.
“Do you enjoy fruity martinis, Hajime?” Tooru asked, the mischievousness gleaming in his eyes belying the innocent tone of his voice. Body heat rising to uncomfortable levels, Hajime began tugging at the collar of his uniform shirt.
“I might be so inclined, depending on the martini,” he grumbled, looking away for a second. Of course, he couldn’t help but glance back at Tooru out of the corners of his eyes, and he was relieved to find a gleeful expression lighting up his face. “I can’t drink on the clock,” he continued slowly, “but I get off in an hour, if you’re willing to stick around and hang out in this dive for a while.”
“I’d love to,” Tooru hummed. He then tossed back the rest of the martini, squinting his eyes at the sour liqueur. Hajime thought he would hand the glass back to him, but while maintaining direct eye contact, Tooru licked every single bit of the caramel swirls from inside the glassHajime's mouth fell open as he unabashedly watched Tooru’s tongue slowly lap up the thick caramel syrup, so stunned that he didn’t even have the sense to blush. Chortling in a low voice, Tooru tapped the martini glass against Hajime’s cheek to indicate that he was finished.
“Better get back to work, Mr. Bartender,” he winked. Robotically, Hajime rose from the piano bench and took the glass before walking back to his work station. He chanced a look at Issei, and nearly hurled the glass across the room as the bouncer stuck out his tongue and wiggled it at him. Red-faced, embarrassed, and admittedly excited, Hajime dunked the martini glass into the sink of soapy water for the resident dishwasher to attend to before looking back at Tooru. He was back to playing again, eyes lidded and a smile on his face as his body swayed to the beat.
Tooru looked at Hajime from across the room, his smile widening until his eyes crinkled up, and Hajime couldn’t help but melt a little. I suppose I’ll have to thank Issei later, he thought with a small sigh, picking up his rag and another glass to begin cleaning again. Though I might punch him in the face first, he thought with a slight grimace when he noticed the bouncer slinking over, looking like he was ready to give Hajime all the hell he could offer.
“So? Did my wingmanning bear fruit?” Issei hummed. Hajime just snorted, scrubbing a particularly troublesome speck from the glass before lifting it up to the light.
“Please. The caramel apple martini was a way better wingman than you,” Hajime huffed, but he couldn’t stop the smile from appearing on his face. “Though I suppose you helped a little, so thanks.” Issei just snorted and mumbled something about how Hajime was an asshole, but he had a smile on his face, too.
The piano tunes continued to echo through the bar, a colorful melody for the colorful people drawn to this little hole-in-the-wall. Here, Hajime saw the best and the worst of society, but he wouldn’t trade it for the world— because it was the best place to be, he thought with a smile, dropping the glass to look at Tooru again. It was the best place to be.

I've Told Every Little Star

by millelav
Oikawa was a hopeless romantic. Someone who believed in simple things like love at first sight, despite knowing the possibility of such a thing being very slim to none. He was someone who read through every single confession letter he received painfully slowly, hoping that the words would speak to his soul and prove to him that he was capable of love, despite it all.
It was the simple things he loved, like waking up to the face of someone who meant everything to you, or the secret language that two beloved shared.
But, he also wasn’t going to sit here and pretend that he was ever expecting to experience anything like what he had hoped for day in and day out.
Love wasn’t that simple.
So one could imagine his shock as he took one look at the gruff face of the pianist, his entire world slowing down.

Haikyuu band AU
Band:
Kuroo, Bokuto, Kenma, Akaashi:
they´d do stuff like Falling In Reverse, a bit of emo, but with a few genre mixes.
Kuroo would sing (Bokuto backs him up an does the screaming), as well as play guitar, Akaashi would play bass and piano, Bokuto would play drums, Kenma would mix everything and do social media alongside marketing
Tendou, Ushijima, Goshiki:
I feel like they´d do progressive rock and do a few openings and endings for niche anime.
Tendou writes the lyrics and melodies, he also has all of the connections, Ushijima does the instrumentals and Goshiki sings.
Asahi, Daichi, Suga:
They are a solid rock band with a few slow songs as well, like Stone Sour for example, or Rise Against.
Daichi sings and plays guitar, Asahi plays bass and Suga plays the drums.
Iwaizumi, Oikawa, Kageyama:
They´re a very controversial idol band. A lot of scandals involving them which gains them publicity alongside the rumors that they don´t do anything themselves and they´re just faces for the industry.
Kindaichi, Kunimi:
I feel like they´d do music similar to Twenty One Pilots. Both sing/rap and play instruments.
Kindaichi always finds the best places for music videos as well.
Atsumu, Osamu, Suna, Kita, Aran:
I think they´d do classic pop punk like Neck Deep (their old stuff, their new album isn´t that good imo, it was a letdown for me)
I just really think it fits their vibe, the whole thing about small town bands rising to fame. A lot of bickering going around, brothers in the band, a lot of similarities.
Suna sings because he has a beautiful singing voice, Osamu plays drums, Aran plays bass, Atsumu plays a mean e-guitar and Kita is their producer, he does all the managing and marketing too.
Futakuchi, Aone:
They´re street artists. It started in college when they needed money. Futakuchi always wrote his own songs and Aone learned to play instruments for him.
Nishinoya, Tanaka, Saeko:
Pure chaos. Saeko basically dragged them with her to start a band. Noya learns to play guitar and Tanaka sings. Writing sessions are all over the place, everyone got too many ideas and they get a lot done, but in the end they have too much material.
Yaku, Lev, Yamamoto:
Kind of like a joke band (maybe Eskimo Callboy vibes). Yamamoto wanted to start a band to impress girls, naturally Lev hopped onto the idea and Yaku couldn´t stop them so he decided to be the voice of reason. They do hard rock with a bit of electronic.
Matsuwaka, Hanamaki:
They´re sound producers and everyone wants to hire them because their work is so good. They worked with almost everyone on this list, but quit working with Oikawa´s band after the rumors.
Kogane, Tsukishima, Kyoutani;
They give me major Palaye Royale vibes. While they´re not brothers, the utter chaos is still very prevelant. Kogane would play guitar like Sebastian, Tsukki would have Emerson´s role and play the drums and piano and Kyoutani would be Remington and sing (he can also play piano and guitar). I feel like the lyrics also fit very well and overall I recommend every single mentioned band! PR is my favorite band and I was lucky enough to see them live.
Konoha, Yamaguchi, Komori:
I know you´re all thinking this is a weird combo and it is. They met in college when they were roommates and all got along very well, they all are very kind and sweethearts so their dynamic overall is very friendly. They´re an indie band and are very big on fan interaction.
Yachi, Kiyoko:
The managers every band wishes they had. They have their own record label and push their artists to the max. Not in the bad way though, all of them are famous.
Solo artist:
Semi:
He used to be very underground, but blew up one night when his song was used on tiktok. He was so mad at that because he hates the app, but he gained a lot of followers through that and could finance an album.
He´s the artist that you´ll meet at a bar and could just talk to really chill.
Yuuji:
He gives me major MGK vibes, from his looks, fashion, to his personality.
And also I think he definitely would play the guitar and piano like him, the lyrics are so fitting, as is the genre mix and the collabs.
Takeada, Ukai:
producers (as well as the other coaches). They treat their bands really well too and want to stand up for artists´ rights.
Udai:
Gives me Jessarae vibes, just a small artist, just a dude and his guitar, singing some ballads.
Inuoka:
Started as a soundcloud rapper, does collabs with Hinata a lot. Very inspired by Linkin Park and such.
Hinata:
Used to sing in a choir and now he´s an indie artist. Only positive songs and can play a lot of instruments.
Instrumental only:
Sakusa:
A very famous violinist or pianist, either fits very well for him, but he hardly does interviews.
Shirabu:
He´d play the piano and appear on multiple bands´ albums.

Wonderful: Chapter 1
Pairing: Iwaizumi Hajime x fem!reader
Summary: An American in Paris au except there is minimal singing and dancing and no one is actually American nor is anyone really French.
If you are unfamiliar with the 1951 musical starring Gene Kelly, here is a summary from imdb I rewrote to make this au work:
Hajime Iwaizumi, a struggling painter in Paris, is "discovered" by an influential heiress with an interest in more than Hajime's art. Hajime in turn falls for [y/n], a young French girl already engaged to cabaret singer, Tooru Oikawa. Hajime jokes, sings and dances with his friend, Tobio Kageyama, an acerbic would-be concert pianist, while romantic complications abound.
Rating: T (for now)
Tags: Love triangles, cheating, mutual pining... sort of. Eventual smut?
Word Count: 3.8K
A/N: Let me start off by saying that I am aware that my desire for this au is very niche, but An American in Paris is one of my favorite movies and the idea for this just popped into my head one day. I will warn you, [Y/N] doesn't really show up until Chapter 3, but stay with me. Also even though I am writing fem!reader, I did my best to keep descriptions of [Y/N] to a minimum to maximize insertiveness. lol.
I am thrilled that you're here and I'm excited that you're taking this journey with me.
Paris. The mecca for artists with big dreams. Hopefuls of all levels of talent would flock to this star on the map just to get a taste of the bountiful inspiration the city offered. Traffic almost at a standstill as cars did their best to rush through roundabouts. The streets lined with specialty shops containing elegant dresses and glittering jewelry. Cafes and bakeries that filled the air with the sweet smell of chocolate and butter. Young lovers walking hand in hand along the Seine. The hustle and bustle of the city was difficult for some to get accustomed to, but its beauty is well worth the frustration. It is a paradise.
The day was just beginning for a small street down on the Left Bank. An old woman made her way down to the bakery for her weekly loaf of bread as children laughed and played. The florist was accepting his daily delivery of fresh cut daisies and roses. A quaint café was buzzing with its usual clientele, excitedly chatting over their morning coffee. And just above dwelled their resident artist. Hajime Iwaizumi. After he had graduated from high school he decided, much to his parent’s chagrin, to journey to the city of lights to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a painter. A lot of folks back home had said he had no talent. And perhaps he did not. But the criticisms, to him, sounded much better in French.
The bright summer sun shone through the open window of his small studio. There was hardly room for a bed, let alone his canvases and paints. A stray ray of light hit his face, causing him to lazily open his eyes. Sleep still heavy on his lids, they fell closed again. He was not ready to wake up just yet. Hoping to escape from some of the brightness, he rolled over to his opposite side. The coolness of the pillow against his cheek combining delightfully with the warmth of the sun on his body. He sighed, sleep beginning to take over once again. Until there was a knock at the door. He frowned and cracked an eye open. Three more knocks. He rolled his eyes and sat up, stretching the stiffness out of his arms before turning behind him. He held himself up on his knees and left hand as he reached over the head of his bed for the doorknob which was no more than half a foot away. He opened the door as much as the space allowed and a hand popped through the crack holding a brown bag. Hajime took the bag and the hand silently darted back into the hall, closing his door behind it.
The floorboards squeaked under the weight of Hajime’s feet as he rose from the bed. He lifted his arms up, allowing his whole body to stretch and free the sleep trapped within his muscles. As he let out a loud yawn, he made his way over towards the corner of the studio where a rope hung beside one of the portraits he was working on of an older gentleman who would sit and read the paper on the balcony of the next building over. After placing the bag in his mouth, Hajime tugged on the rope. Placing one hand over the other, the cot he used lifted up off the floor, vanishing into the ceiling. Once out of the way, he slipped the contents of the paper bag onto the plate that sat on his bedside table. His usual morning bagel.
With his free hand he reached up for his washcloth and towel, which rested on the rod that connected the legs of his cot. As soon as he retrieved them, he made sure to push the legs back into the cot -- many little red welts in the past had taught him that this was an important step. He rolled a stool out of his path with his foot as he walked across to a wall, which he kicked, causing a small table to pop out. After tossing his plated breakfast onto the table, he turned to push a plush desk chair out of the way so he could open his closet. Revealing a white smock, two dark sweaters, a dresser, dining chair and another small, but slightly larger, table. He pulled the latter two out and placed them in the middle of his studio.
The little square table was decorated with a tin containing delicate purple blossoms from the florist down the street. He pulled out his French press and mug from the top drawer of his dresser and placed them next to the flowers. While pulling his dark green sweater from out of the closet, he reached up with his left knee to close the dresser drawer. He tossed the garment and his towels on the plush chair and then turned to face the doors leading out to his balcony. Using both hands, Hajime pulled open the doors, letting the morning light directly hit his face. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, inhaling the cool morning air, allowing it to rest in his lungs a few beats before releasing. He then reached down and grabbed his fruit bowl and water pitcher to complete his breakfast table. Once the final items had been placed, he stood at his full height and placing his hands on his hips surveyed the room. His eyes turned into thin slits and a frown began to slowly form on his face as he focused on the portrait of the old man.
He made his way over to his work. Suddenly unhappy with the shading of the man’s nose, he smudged the charcoal with his thumb near the bridge. Then the corners. Hajime ran his hands through his hair and let out an exasperated sigh. Realizing it was not meeting his standards, his hand found a nearby rag and took to wiping away the whole piece. Small shouts of his name shook him from his actions. He made his way over to the open window facing the street. Three tiny hands wave up at him from below. Some of the neighborhood children had become fond of him after they had received a few gifts of sweet candy. Hajime playfully stuck out his tongue at them before waving back. The children laughed and continued running down the street. A familiar sound caught his attention. The soft tinkling of piano keys filled the air. He closed his eyes and focused on the melody that floated over from nearby.
Just a few windows over lived Hajime’s friend, Tobio Kageyama, an up and coming concert pianist who unfortunately had not been able to find much work recently. He moved to Paris after being awarded the Hackenwall Prize. It was the eighth scholarship he had been awarded for his musical talent. Quite an accomplishment for someone so young. Even with this and the amount of raw talent he had possessed, he felt like he did not have much to show for it. Upon discovering his lackluster communication skills, most companies were less than thrilled to continue their work with him. His worst fear was being forced to quit and take up an average desk job. So, he was constantly working to improve his interpersonal skills along with honing his musical genius.
While he was fairly homesick, Tobio had a soft spot for Paris. It was a place he could feel comfortable, especially knowing that it was near impossible to run into old acquaintances. Though that had never necessarily been an issue for him in his hometown either. Surprisingly to him, it had been quite easy to make friends in Paris. Perhaps it was the bond over a shared mother tongue between Hajime and himself that had made them close, or a shared project, like the one that had brought Tooru Oikawa into his life.
Tooru was a French music hall star just about the same age as Hajime. Both young, yet old enough to know what to do with their young feelings. Though Tooru had considerably more name recognition. With his smooth vocals and devilish charm, his popularity had grown like wildfire. According to many he was easy on the eyes to boot. The singer had grown fond of Tobio during their work together. Tobio did not share the same fondness however, but he could not deny the amount of skill the singer possessed. Over time a strange, almost competitive, friendship formed between the two. Tooru made it a priority to visit between shows to catch up and attempt to pressure Tobio into working on another collaboration.
Which is exactly what the young cabaret singer found himself doing on this lovely summer morning. Eyes followed him as he briskly walked down the street while admiring the architecture of the old quarter. Good mornings and other greetings from pedestrians and fans alike met his ears which he made sure to return with a dashing smile. He stopped only once to adjust his appearance in the reflection of a store front window. His tie had come a little loose on his journey over and his hat was not quite where he wanted it. Once everything was settled, he shot himself a wink and continued on his way.
Upon arriving at the café, Tooru was immediately met with a warm hug from its owner, pulling him in under the awning. “Tooru Oikawa?!” the owner exclaimed. Tooru laughed and returned the excited hug.
“Why Ittetsu, how have you been?” Tooru asked, extending his hand out to shake the spectacled barista’s.
“Very good, thank you!” Ittetsu answered while vigorously shaking the young singer’s hand. “But why haven’t you come to see us? I’ve only been able to read about you in the paper! It’s been a while.”
“Then perhaps you should come see me at my next show!” Tooru countered.
The melody from the flat above slowly sank down to the street. Tooru’s ears perked up at the familiar tune and he quickly ran back out into the street trying to guess from which window the sound was coming from. “That’s Tobio! Isn’t it?” he asked Ittetsu with a twinkle in his eye before singing along.
“And then taking that vow. Oh, that’s nice work if you can get it.”
Tobio’s concentration broke suddenly hearing someone accompanying him, but his playing did not falter. He continued on, a look of confusion adorning his face before melting into a scowl upon realization. Tobio rose from his seat, fingers still gliding across the keys, trying to get a look at the performer below.
“And if you get it, Dites-moi, won’t you tell me how?”
Just as he had suspected, there was Tooru Oikawa, arms outstretched, casually putting on a show in the middle of the street. Some things really do not change. “You used to sing it a tone higher!” Tobio called down after finishing up his song.
“I’m a big boy now! My voice is changing!” Tooru playfully answered back. Tobio rolled his eyes at the cheeky response. “Shall I come up?”
“No!” Tobi answered. “I’ll be down.”
The pianist made his way through the hallway and down the stairs. The scowl on his face only slightly softening. He would never admit it to himself, but he secretly looked up to the young singer. Though he did not often seem like it, Tooru was a disciplined artist. It was not simply his good looks and charm that skyrocketed him to fame like some would lead you to believe, it was his passion and dedication alone, he made an excellent mentor. Annoying and a bit egotistic, but talented nonetheless. Tobio truly enjoyed Tohru’s quick visits. Besides, they always had the potential to lead to new projects.
Tooru’s grin widened once he spotted Tobio entering the café. “Ah Tobio! You made it!” he exclaimed, raising his arms to pull Tobio into a hug.
Tobio’s eyes narrowed at the oncoming brunette, “Don’t do that, I just ate breakfast.” Tooru dropped his arms but his grin remained. Tobio managed a small smile and extended a hand to the singer who gleefully took it. “You look good.” He examined his excessively cheerful friend as they made their way over to a table so they could sit and chat. Tooru had always been a sharp dresser but there was something different today about his crisp navy suit and freshly polished shoes. And his usual cocky grin and mischievous eyes had some softness to them. “Weirdly… great actually. Did you take a vacation or something?”
“Oh, something much better.” Tooro’s eyes sparkled when he answered. He removed his hat and placed it on the table before sitting down.
“I hear your show’s a big hit.” Tobio said as he moved to sit down as well.
“It is. Naturally.”
“Yeah, naturally.” Tobio repeated with annoyance in his voice. There was that usual cockiness.
“When did you get back from touring?"
“I’ve been back since March. I phoned you but no one answered. I would have phoned you again, but I was afraid you might actually answer.”
“Oh in March?” Tooru mused, ignoring his reluctant friend’s slight dig. “I wasn’t in Paris then. [Y/N] and I were visiting friends in Juan les Pins.”
Ittetsu scurried over to the table and set down a plate of fresh baked brioche. Tooru thanked him and Tobio requested some coffee for the two of them.
“What are you working on?” Tooru asked, biting into the soft bread.
“Same old concert.”
The singer laughed. “When are you going to give it?”
“When I can’t figure out any more reasons not to.” It was Tobio’s passion project. A concert he had been working on for the last five years or so that he could not seem to perfect.
The excited café owner arrived at the table once again with a plate of butter for the bread. Tohru licked his lips and hastily spread some on what was remaining of his piece. Tobio once again asked for some coffee.
“I took [Y/N] to hear Weingarten play the other night. It was her first concert and her eyes were shining for two days.”
“Why didn’t you take her to the eye doctor then?” Tobio asked sarcastically. He was about to take a bite of his brioche but stopped short. It occurred to him that the name [y/n] was unfamiliar to him. “Wait, who’s [Y/N]? That’s the second time you’ve brought her up.”
“Tobio, I am very happy these days.” Tooru reached into his suit pocket to pull out his wallet. “I’ll show you her picture.” He retrieved the small photo from his trifold and handed it off.
“Are you married?” Tobio asked before taking a peek at the girl in the picture.
“Not yet.”
“Pretty,” Very pretty Tobio thought. Her [h/c] was done up in an elegant style and her [e/c] eyes complimented her [s/c] skin beautifully. “She looks familiar…”
“She’s Ikkei Ukai’s granddaughter.”
The young pianist gave an affirmative hum while he pieced together the few memories he had of the Ukai family. He smiled when Ittetsu finally came around to pour a cup of coffee for Tooru. He held out his own cup expectantly, but his smile quickly turned sour when Ittetsu flew from the table back towards the kitchen without pouring him a cup. Tooru laughed as Tobio angrily called Ittetsu back for his coffee. The owner hurried over, face pink with embarrassment and spouting out apologies. Tobio glanced at the owner out of the corner of his eye in annoyance while he poured.
“Her parents fell ill, the poor thing.” Tobio’s anger cooled and he brought his attention back to Tooru as the singer continued, “I took care of her through it all. She lived in my house for a while after they passed.”
Tobio choked on his coffee at the scandalous information. “Your house?” His eyebrows rose, “Shocking but generous.”
Tooru balanced his chin in his hand and let out a wistful sigh, “We were both young then,” he scrunched his face into a pout, “We didn’t fall in love until after she left.”
“She seems a little young for you.” Tobio accused, recalling how young the girl looked in the photograph.
“No, not really. She’s about your age even.”
“Well, what’s she like?”
The sparkle returned to Tooru’s eyes, “She has great vitality and joie de vivre. She loves to go out, have fun and dance. She could dance all night.”
“Sounds tiresome,” Tobio could think of a thousand other things he would rather do than go out for a night of dancing. It sounded like this [Y/N] was the perfect match for his energetic friend. “So she’s kind of wild like you, huh?”
“Wild? Like me? I have no idea what you are talking about,” Tooru placed his hands over his heart in feign shock, “No, she’s very demure. She works all day at the Maison Nicole, the perfume shop.”
Tobio let out another affirmative hum, hoping Tooru would catch the hint that he had no further interest in this conversation whatsoever. Tooru had a reputation for skirt chasing, even though most of his escapades ended up fruitless. Honestly, this instance was no different from the last dozen save for the fact that this girl was insane enough to actually agree to go steady with the famous singer.
“Oh she’s an enchanting girl, Tobio. She’s so wonderful I just can’t stand it.”
“She’s more reserved you said?” Tobio asked. Knowing there was no way he was going to get out of this conversation until Tooru was satisfied.
“Oh no, she’s quite exciting!”
“So… she’s pretty… experienced?”
“Well, not really. She’s so sweet and a little shy.”
“So, she’s old fashioned?”
“Of course not! She’s vivacious and modern!”
“So she never shuts up like you, huh?”
“Quite the opposite! She always has her nose in a book.”
“Dating you must make her pretty moody.”
“Never! She’s always cheerful and has the most beautiful smile!”
Tobio’s eyebrow twitched in irritation, “Tooru, you just described at least five different women.”
“Oh! What can I say, Tobio? I’m crazy about her! She’s perfect. She’s indescribable.”
As the two musicians chatted below, Hajime was finally making his way out of the studio. Both his hands where full of canvases as he walked down the stairs and out to meet his friend in the café. When he entered, he found Tobio working his fingers excitedly along the keys of the old piano by the patio, playing a jazzy tune, while a familiar, well dressed gentleman playfully heckled him. “That’s not music! It’s uncivilized. It’s noise.”
“G’ morning.” Hajime greeted.
“Morning,” Tobio greeted back, “Hajime, you remember Tooru Oikawa, right?”
Hajime walked over to the table where Tooru was still enjoying his breakfast. “Of course I do. I’ve only heard you sing about a thousand times. How are you doing?” Hajime extended his hand in greeting and Tooru cheerfully accepted.
“Well, thanks. And you?”
“I could be better. I’m broke.”
“Broke?” Tooru gave a light laugh at Hajime’s straight forward answer.
“Yeah, and the trouble is when I have no money I don’t eat. When I don’t eat I get tired and depressed. When that happens the only thing that’ll help is wine and women.”
“Oh well that should be very simple, Hajime. You’re in Paris!”
“Yes, but even in Paris that takes money. Which is what I don’t have in the first place… Speaking of,” Hajime made his way over to the piano, “Hey, Tobio, you got three hundred francs on you? I’m going to Montmartre and I need lunch money.”
“Sorry, Haji. I bought a postage stamp yesterday and it broke me.”
Tooru jumped out of his seat and strode over to the two while reaching for his wallet, “Here, allow me.”
Hajime quickly held his hands out in protest, “No, thanks. I don’t like taking money from strangers.” Tooru whined at the comment, hurt that Hajime would even think to call him a stranger even though they had met at least a few dozen times.
“I wish he was a stranger,” Tobio muttered under his breath. His playing stopped for a moment, smirking at the sneaky idea that popped into his head. “Hey, Tooru. Lend me three hundred,” he commanded.
Hajime frowned. Catching on to what his friend was doing. Tooru happily slipped the bill into Tobio’s outstretched hand. With a smirk on his face he pushed the money into Hajime’s chest and continued where he had left off but with more force. Hajime caught the money before it fell and reluctantly pocketed it. He stopped in front of Tooru on his way to sit at the once occupied table and said, “I wouldn’t lend him money if I were you. He’s a bum risk.”
The excitement and volume by which Tobio was playing intensified. Tooru hunched his shoulders to his ears, trying to hide them from what he considered to be unpleasant banging. “Tobio, is this really what you won your scholarship for?” he asked, followed by mocking the music with childish da-da-das.
“What’s wrong with it?” Tobio snapped.
Hajime perked up from the table, mouth full of scavenged brioche, “Evidently, the man doesn’t like jazz.”
“I’m against it,” Tooru said, folding his arms in front of his chest.
Hajime scoffed and walked back to the piano, coffee cup in hand, “What else is there?”
“Oh I know what he likes.” Tobio spat before changing his tone to something mockingly sweet, “He’s strictly a three-quarter man.”
When Tobio began to play a pleasant waltz, Tooru’s body relaxed. Unconsciously swaying to the rhythm. “Now that’s the ticket.”
“Ah,” Hajime’s eyes grew wide with realization and a wicked grin formed on his face, “Old Vienna and all that crap.”
Tobio attempted to stifle his laughter with minimal success.
Tooru scoffed, offended by the comment. “The waltzes of middle Europa charm you and warm your heart. What Broadway would lead you to believe is music, is nothing but emptiness pounding on tin. When I want a melody lilting through the house, then I want a melody by Strauss.”
“Why, I didn’t realize the emperor himself would be visiting us this morning.” Tobio commented, attempting to cut off the passionate rant.
“I’ll take om-pah-pah over ha-cha-cha any day!” Tooru aggressively answered back.
Hajime quietly eased his way out of the argument and placed his empty cup on a nearby table. “Well gentlemen this has been,” pausing a moment, struggling to come up with the appropriate adjective, “… nice… but I should be on my way. I’ll see you later Tobio. Tooru.” He gave a small, unnoticed wave before collecting the canvases he had placed at the table. Leaving the two musicians to continue quarreling without him.

Haikyuu High Noon
Consider the following AU: the Haikyuu boys in a classic western cowboy type setting.
Karasuno is a small frontier town out in the boonies. While it had a good reputation some years ago as a nice place for hopeful, hard working folks to start a life, the last few years it's fallen. It's been overrun by bandits and several of the stores have been abandoned.
Tsukishima Kei is the highly respected, if not exactly loved, sheriff of Karasuno. He was elected a year ago, on the recommendation of people like Daichi, to clean the place up. He's determined to make the town as safe and stable as possible. He’s cool headed and smart, with a good shot, but his social skills need work. The one who spends most time with him is his deputy, Yamaguchi Tadashi. They sort of came as a package deal, and this is probably a good thing. Because while Sheriff Tsukishima is an excellent shot, deputy Yamaguchi is the one that ruffled kids hair and gets cats out of trees. He's a one-man pr team for the sheriff's office.
The local saloon is run by Sawamura Daichi, who has a shotgun underneath his bar and isn’t afraid to tell everyone about this. He's a second generation citizen of the town and has seen its good days. He'd like to return to them. His friend Sugawara Koushi has an undisclosed occupation, but mostly resides at the saloon. He sometimes works there when the other is busy, but mostly he spends his days playing cards and liberating any travellers from their money. Asahi Azumane is their mild-mannered and slightly panicky pianist. But he’s tall and broad enough to stop most bar fights just by getting up off his little stool. This mostly happens when Suga has won another game and is shit talking his opponent. If Asahi's presence isn't enough of a deterrent, there's always Daichi's shotgun.
The bank is run by Ennoshita Chikara, who made his fortune in the big city. He managed to get the business at bottom price, because the previous owner just wanted to live out his days in a place where he wouldn't get robbed at gunpoint every other week. The local populace considered this a bad business deal for Ennoshita, but when he took over the establishment, he brought his associates Kinoshita and Narita with him. The lot of them installed some ‘security measures’ and not a single outlaw has managed to get even one cent out of him since he came to Karasuno.
Miss Shimizu is the teacher at the small school, who is known to be a bit of a quiet beauty. She's another long term resident of Karasuno and she pretty much single handedly made the whole school project happen. She recently acquired an assistant, a very bright young woman with a rather nervous disposition named Miss Yachi. She comes from more genteel surroundings and she's very twitchy about guns, but she's excellent with the smaller children.
Tanaka Ryu and Nishinoya Yuu are grave diggers. Or they used to be. Nowadays, they’re a bit of everything, really. They make a living doing odd jobs for anyone, from helping the smith with shooing horses to moving barrels of beer for the saloon. In August, they help take in the harvest for the farms. They’re loud, but they’re fast and do good work. Sheriff Tsukishima basically made their previous job of full time grave digger dry up, but they don't seem to mind too much.
Ukai Keishin runs the grocery. He’s a grumpy sort of man, but stories talk about his history in the army, and how he used to be a real scary dude. Took the store over from his grandpappy, who had a tenure as one of the most successful sheriffs the town ever experienced. Back in the 'good' old days. In a small room above the grocery lives Takeda Itetsu, who is a writer. He’s a very polite and entirely too soft sort, and he came from the big city to experience first hand what life on the frontier was like. The idea was to make a series of articles, but he’s taken a liking to the town. Makes his money with a biweekly column he sends to the paper in the city. Gets very excited about the most random things and he’s known to help miss Shimizu out at the school.
Hinata Shouyou is, to all intents and purposes, a stable boy. He's also an unlikely dead hand with a pistol. He works for the horse trader, feeding the animals and generally taking care of them and their stables. One day one of the older farm hands was playing around shooting bottles in the field, and he got to try, and it turns out he’s a natural. He’s currently being tutored, reluctantly, by Kageyama Tobio. This strange man came riding in one day wearing a black suit and a scowl. That same day a deeply misguided band of outlaws tried to ransack the town and it turned out that Kageyama is one of the fastest guns in the West. He and the sheriff immediately came to the agreement that they didn’t like each other at All. But he's started up a friendship of sorts with several other residents and seems to have made one of the rooms above the saloon his home.
Nekoma's Pony Express is one of the best delivery services on the frontier. Since there’s no railroad to Karasuno, they’re also the main line to the big city. There’s the driver, Kenma, and the leader/mailman Kuroo, whose main skill seems to be talking himself out of whatever hostage situation they find themselves in. Because let’s be clear, the lands around Karasuno are not exactly safe. In case Kuroo fails, the Nekoma Express employs a sharpshooter called Kai and even an explosives expert, in the form of a very grumpy man called Yaku, who is said to have quite the military history. They recently hired an extra hand in the form of a weird Russian cowboy named Lev, who is talented, but also a bit of a liability.
Fort Shiratorizawa is the army barracks closest to the town of Karasuno (though obviously not close enough to provide actual safety). It is run by Captain Ushijima, who is known to be strict, quiet, and badass. Most of the day to day organising is done by his right hand man, First Lieutenant Semi, while a lot of the defensive organisation lies in the hands of second lieutenants Kawanishi and Yamagata. There’s a few strange figures running around in the barracks, most notably private Tendou, who some claim to just be an outlaw in disguise. There’s also Goshiki, a new hire with too much energy.
The Datekou Ranch lies just over the hills from Karasuno and is mostly run by Moniwa Kaname, a man who really is too mild mannered to lead a bunch of rowdy cowboys. Most notably two of his most experienced cowboys are usually at each other's throats. There's Futakuchi, who is a little shit, and Yamazaki, who has a short fuse. The only reason no one got killed so far, is because of the ranch’s gardener, Aone. The man is huge and does not appear to speak much, but he can break up any fight. Moniwa has offered to promote him to leader of the cattle team, but he prefers the quiet solitude of the ranches kitchen garden.
The wildlands around Karasuno are dangerous, and one of the main reasons for this is the Seijoh Gang. These outlaws employ a ‘robin hood’like way of operating, where they mostly let people go if they’re willing to part with their valuables. They’ve clashed repeatedly with the Datekou ranch and have ransacked the town of Karasuno at least once. Leader of this band is Oikawa, whose wanted posters never stay up long, since teenage girls (and some boys) steal them to hang in their bedrooms. He was tried for a crime he claims he didn’t commit, and was saved from the gallows by his current right hand man, Iwaizumi, in one of those spectacular ways that the papers have still not stopped writing about (yes, he shot the rope, yes that worked, no, nobody knows how). Together they have assembled a band of misfits to form one of the most successful gangs of criminals out there. Hanamaki and Matsukawa were originally gamblers, but were persuaded to lend their gun skills, Kyoutani was sprung from a jail they ransacked, where he was spending the night over a bar brawl. He just joined up. The band is even said to have a doctor, Watari, who ducked the draft in the army and ended up an outlaw
