Even More on the Tamaki-Ranka parallels from Haruhiā€™s POV
This meta is posted conveniently in time for Fatherā€™s Day. I hadnā€™t noticed the date and I wasnā€™t actually trying to post this today but oh well...
OHSHC Manga Spoilers!
I donā€™t think Iā€™m negatively affected anymore by that anime only scene in the grocery store and no longer find it questionable that Tamaki reminds Haruhi of her father to have that help justify her falling for him to the audience. Iā€™m pretty sure the intent, as made clear, was that it makes her better able to handle him and more quickly endear her to him and his quirks because heā€™s familiar and safe, which is a point that favours Tamaki in the relationship more. What makes Tamaki a good match for Haruhi however is what he does for her when he embraces his ā€œfatherly dutiesā€ towards her. He takes care of her, makes sure she eats/ā€œprovidesā€ for her, checks up on her, protects her, and dotes on her similarly to Ryuji that Haruhi doesnā€™t likeā€”Tamaki is ā€œobnoxiousā€ to her. The rest of the Host Club act the same way to her but they act more like her friends than Tamaki which is why they are the best friend group for her to be in at that specific point in her life when she starts the show, helped along majorly with the mutual desire to be kids and enjoy themselves. What makes Tamaki special, however, other than sharing similarities with her father is brought to attention most evidently below. He and Kyoya are the leaders. Nothing in how Tamaki behaves she believes are necessarily wanted behaviours from him by her. Haruhi as a person is the kind who doesnā€™t easily accepts help, concern or care from anyone including the rest of the Host Club, and those things arenā€™t most concretely appreciated by her until she realizes she loves him. Tamaki, however, is the catalyst for so much sudden inspiration in her just as he is for many others he affects:

Someone pointed out that Haruhi is affected by parentification and I agree. One of the ways to combat it is by meeting the neglected childā€™s needs and letting them be secured. I donā€™t think sheā€™s as badly affected however by it as she could be with Ryuji as her father.
Context of Haruhiā€™s background: Since Haruhiā€™s motherā€™s death, itā€™s shown that sheā€™s been precocious and independent in attempt to emulate her mother to honour her. Sheā€™s successful as she learns to prioritize studying to become a lawyer, playing by herself/emotionally regulate (which is actually surprising for a parentified child and shows Ryujiā€™s good parenting), ā€œindependentlyā€ grocery shop, and I believe properly keep track of the finances since Ryuji is canonically horrible with money. She took up the role of her mother essentially. She even sometimes has to console a drunk or overly-emotional Ryuji after a night at the bar, sometimes actively avoiding going home so that she wonā€™t disrupt his sleep or needed personal time away from her. This I recognize as normal and relatable aspects of her character, coming from someone whoā€™s a WOC and from a lower SES background as well. Itā€™s a common struggle to go through. Itā€™s a necessity for survival and that trauma becomes a major part of your personality as you grow up manifesting in healthy or unhealthy ways with either embracing the parentification role completely (Haruhi) or resolving to grow out of it to reclaim childhood (Tamaki - from prioritizing and worrying over Anne-Sophie). Haruhi chose the former end of the spectrum, dealing with things in a relatively healthy way which means there isnā€™t anything inherent that needs to be changed about Haruhi except for perhaps a balance of things in her life (creating a spectrum of responsibility on one end and security for living carefree in a healthy way on the other).
It isnā€™t like Ryuji doesnā€™t notice any of what she does. He actually tries to reciprocate the care she gives him and to rectify the dynamic by being more traditional and overly protective. This does not work as Haruhi grows most comfortable in her role and accepts her father as he is, strongly attaching her attitude to her identity because of her loss and intelligently wanting to prevent failure and hardship. They have both accepted each other and now he can only hope that things will be alright with her. Haruhi finds a great sense of purpose and confidence in herself thanks in part to the watchful eye of Ryuji. That is exactly why the Tamaki-Ranka parallels arenā€™t nearly as bad as they could be made to be. How I initially thought them to be. Like her relationship with her actual father, Tamaki and Haruhiā€™s is not perfect but fine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fun fact: When first reading the manga, I skipped around in the first 40 chapters and landed here. This was the first instance that I felt like Haruhi was falling. Of course, I was wrong as itā€™s even earlier, much before chapter 57.

Ouhhhh friendship I love friendshipā€¦ā€¦..
#Iā€™m reading volumes 14-16 of the ouran manga OOUGHHH MY HEART#I love this weird little friend group so much its unreal#like u have this charming sweeps you off your feet prince but heā€™s actually a huge lovable idiot with a kind heart and his friends#who are all misfits that he reached out to and drew in because of his kindness and own weirdness like that shits TIGHT BRO#and the trauma part where he has some deep seated issues with love bc he thinks that itll break a family apart like with his mom#how his family isnt allowed to be together because his mom and dad fell in love and how he says he wants to build a big house#so that way one day everyone will get along as a family like. all he wants is not to lose everyone and the only way to do that is#by maintaining a certain order.. he both wants a complete family so bad and doesnt want anything to sour between anyone#so he assigns each of his friends a family role based on how he sees them and YEAH its mostly played for giggles and tamakis#already weird so its his way of showing theyre close to him but. god damn this boy has LAYERS#it also feels kinda meta towards how found family tends to get thrown around to assign characters as 'siblings' or family roles instead of#using it to describe characters who are close enough to be each others family. cuz tamakis doing that EXACT THING in a way tht#ties in with his character and i have to say its fascinating using that within the story itself and its completely plausible#theres a lot of things i can say about ouran that are good bad and questionable but. god i love it when characters are niceys to each other#i remember i really liked the mall episode bc kyoya and haruhi got to spend time together and their relationship isnt very close#but it was really nice to see their personalities bounce off each other. i think i also wouldve liked to see haruhi alone with kaoru#i also firmly believe all of the hosts are at least a little in love with haruhi and this can be anything like endearing romantic cuz like#who DOESNT love haruhi. kyoya i think would want to study her under a microscope like his fascination with her draws him in#but im fucking obsessed with whatever haruhi and tamaki have going on because YES hes obsessed with her YES he jumps at the chance to#put her in a cute costume but haruhi? she just fucking goes with it because she knows hes fun to be around even if hes a little wacky abt i#theyre all so. The (possible) origins of the Mori/Haruhi rumor
Or, I take a look at four different language versions of Mori's character profile to try to debunk this rumor.
You guys probably know the rumor that goes like "Tamaki wasn't supposed to end up with Haruhi, it was going to be Mori, but Tamaki became more popular and the mangaka changed her mind"
Like many others in this fandom, I'm tired of people blindly believing it so I was trying to write a post about how I think this rumor started. I was originally going to focus more on the "it changed because Tamaki became popular" part, because I felt that the "Mori was supposed to be endgame" part of the rumor had already been dissected by other people.
Except when I was I looking for Mori's character profile (the infamous quote that is believed to be the source of it) to use for my post, I found different versions of it depending on the translation. And maybe the "Mori was supposed to be endgame" part needs a bit more dissection, actually.
Especially since I couldn't understand at first why Mori of all hosts is the focus of this rumor, because MoriHaru was pretty much a rarepair before this.
Now I'm going to analyze both the "Mori was supposed to be endgame" part and the "it changed because Tamaki became popular" parts. And I think I may have a pretty good theory for how this rumor started.
Here is my analysis under the cut:
(Beware there are probably some spelling mistakes bc it's 2AM and english is not my native language)
The MoriHaru rumor is widely believed to have come from a quote from Hatori in a manga volume. More exactly, Mori's character profile.
So let's take a look at his character profile for a second.
The English translation that gets passed around goes like this:
"If I leave him alone, he winds up being a 'quiet, sober-faced fellow' so he makes Hatori groan a lot. But his love is vast (laugh), so there's at least an outside chance of Haruhi and Mori becoming a couple."
Here we have what might have confused some people. "Outside chance of Haruhi/Mori becoming a couple" doesn't mean they were supposed to be endgame, it means there is an unlikely chance of them being a couple.
Makes sense people would misread this. But I've always felt it was such a weak sentence to start this entire rumorā€¦ especially when there is literally shippy art of Haruhi with every host in the manga. Wouldn't any other character have started a similar rumor? Why would such a weak sentence start something so big?
But I was looking for a clear picture of the English profile to add to my original post idea when I stumbled over the Spanish version. And it got me confused because it was worded differently:
Tumblr media
If you don't know Spanish, this is very similar to the English text, except the ending says:
"My (Hatori's) favorite couple is Mori + Haruhi, maybe."
Wait, we have an entirely different sentence here! This one implies Hatori likes MoriHaru more than the other couples, which could point to this being the source of the rumor. But I'm not satisfied. This is not enough. Let's dig deeper.
Spanish is not my native language, so I went to my actual native language, which is Brazilian Portuguese. Fortunately I have the entire collection with me, so I opened volume one to find this:
Tumblr media
The first sentence is pretty much the same as the English and Spanish versions, but the rest says "He ends up worrying me, because he gives me the impression he will end up turning the story around. But I like him a lot (laughs). Maybe my favorite couple is Mori and Hani"
And that Hani bit is a fucking mistranslation from the Brazilian Portuguese print! It's supposed to be Haruhi, not Honey. This is the second time I find a mistranslation in this volume! This is why shoujo manga doesn't sell well here, publishers!
But the rest of the text is interesting. He could "turn the story around" (this is the closest translation I can give you for the word "reviravolta"). That means he has the potential to change the plot. Interesting. Seems in line with the rumor of Hatori's plans changing.
Now we have three different translations here, all of them pointing to different things. It's a bit confusing. Which one is the real translation?
But you don't know the depths to my obsession! I do have the first ouran volume in Japanese! And there is no better way to solve this mystery than to look at the original text!
I'm not fluent in Japanese but I have six semesters of beginner level Japanese under my belt + it's 1 AM 2AM and I should be asleep because I'm going to cosplay Tamaki at a con tomorrow + I drank an entire cup of green tea and I'm shaking AND THIS IS THE PERFECT TIME TO FALL IN A TRANSLATION RABBIT HOLE!
Here is a pic of the Japanese text taken straight from the manga:
Tumblr media
In the Japanese text, Hatori says Mori/Haruhi (yes, HARUHI, not Honey) is a 大ē©“ couple. I searched 大ē©“ on a japanese dictionary app and this is what it means: "Long shot win (in horse racing), big winnings (on a Long shot), a killing (made from a bet)"
So THAT'S probably where it came from. She called MoriHaru an unlikely win and people thought it meant she was planning for him and Haruhi to be a surprise endgame in the long run. Looks similar to the english version, but I feel it has more "winning connotations" here, you know? Add this to the translation calling them Hatori's favorite couple and you have the likely source to the confusion: People thought it was her favorite couple and that it would win in the long run, surprising everyone.
From this to "they were supposed to be endgame but it got changed" it's not a big leap.
I should try translating the rest of the japanese text but let me do it another day when it's not 2AM, thanks
But that does not mean she was planning for them to be canon. If anything it's more likely she didn't know who to ship Haruhi with at first (there are other quotes from the manga that support this or the "Tamaki was always endgame" theory).
So another part of the mystery seems to be solved, but none of this explains the whole popularity part of the rumor. You know, when people say Tamaki became the male lead because he was more popular than Mori.
We know this is highly unlikely because Mori actually got second place at the first popularity pool, losing only to Haruhi. And Tamaki wasn't the only popular character in the group. You can see this in depth in this post by another person.
So where could people have taken that from?
You know which other shoujo fandom has a very similar rumor? Boys over flowers (a.k.a. Hana Yori Dango a.k.a. Meteor Garden).
If you are into that manga, you have probably heard that "Tsukasa wasn't supposed to be the male lead, Rui was. But Tsukasa won the first popularity pool and the mangaka changed her mind."
(Listen, I'm a huge boys over flowers fan but I'm not sure if this is true in this fandom either. I'm not a huge interview reader, so if anyone has a source where Kamio says this, please send it to me.)
But in boys over flowers case it at least makes a bit more sense! Tsukasa did win the first popularity contest (Rui got third place). And I've seen this rumor on bof fansites from the 90s/early 00s, so this one has a higher chance of being true compared to the ouran one.
Honestly, the first time I heard the Mori rumor my first reaction was "???? I've heard this before in another fandom????"
So my guess is that the rumor about Boys Over Flowers somehow jumped to Ouran. But how did people mix up completely unrelated series from different mangaka and magazines? It's not that hard to imagine. They are both popular reverse harem series with the same basic concept (poor girl in rich school with rich boys).
My guess is that someone saw the Mori thing and thought "oh, so it's like boys over flowers where the male lead changed because the other was more popular" and it snowballed from this.
Again, I could be wrong and maybe there is a Hatori quote somewhere on the internet proving the rumor. But for now, I'm going to believe it's a mix of mistranslations/misinterpretations and people jumping to conclusions.
(And this is not an attack on people who ship MoriHaru, btw. Ship whatever you want. This is just about the rumor)

@fairyprince7 hope you don't mind me chiming in, but I recently was on an Ouran re-binge and couldn't help myself when I saw this!
Side-note: I think it's totally valid to not like them (or any ship) together. I myself am a big multishipper, especially for this fandom, so I hope none of what I say comes across as argumentative or trying to "convince" anyone that their interpretations are wrong.
My thoughts on TamaHaru can be summed up as I see them as motivated by the same thing: helping others.
Tamaki in particular, I think his role in the whole series (I ship them more in the manga than the show tbh) is to encourage other characters to be their true selves and pursue their dreams. That's what he does to each of the Hosts before the series, and most of the time it's what he does for guests during their story arcs.
I see Haruhi learning that it's okay to enjoy herself and expanding her world beyond studying as a big part of her character arc.
That's why I can ship them romantically: romance could be one of the things that Haruhi didn't "let" herself enjoy when she was only focused on her studies, so it makes sense to me that she could come to love Tamaki romantically as the person who encouraged her to expand her world and explore whether that's something she'd want for herself.
(Though aro!Haruhi is super valid too, lol)
Meanwhile, Haruhi being really perceptive of other people and wanting to help them because she is motivated to correct injustices while Tamaki always seeing the good in others and wanting to help them be their best are such good parallels that it makes me think they'd be good partners.
So yeah, while I can see why you'd feel their relationship was forced, I just like their arc in the manga where she's on this big journey of widening her world, and she comes to the realization she has a crush on him all on her own yet her first reaction is to deny it and think she's physically sick LOL. And I love that she confesses to him first. I personally found all that refreshing from the usual romance tropes of being brought together by big dramatic circumstances or one "wearing the other down"
I don't know what your ohshc opinions are but I'm very curious to send this just. out to the ouran fandom in general and see what people see in romantic tamaharu? because when I read the manga years ago it felt very forced to me, like many m/f endgames in manga of the time, and I could not understand it at all. even now I dread rereading the ending because I don't want to risk feeling those emotions and thoughts on it again. I'd be very curious to hear people's thoughts on this and why they like/dislike it. I absolutely love tamaharu as a queerplatonic relationship but I cannot see any romance there, and I think that's the disconnect me and the fandom have.
ooh i love this! ouran fandom, what are your thoughts??
i personally love romantic tamaharu because i feel like they both see the best in each other and comfort each other!! and i know those things are not necessarily romantic, but thatā€™s how it feels to me. to me it seems normal for feelings of respect/admiration to turn into romantic feelings (in haruhiā€™s case), and for me when i first watched ouran years ago i just KNEW tamaki was in love with her almost the whole time. i know everyone interprets their relationship differently though:)

hi hello you may not remember but i sent a couple of asks about the shiggy route and was tentatively called mid-dec anon um. i have returned with thoughts ! again!
god the world building in this was absolutely gorgeous and so unique in its mechanics you should be so incredibly proud of yourself. thereā€™s too much to say so i will pick a theme and my theme is the little throughlines youā€™ve done across the routes and how GORGEOUSLY you subverted them in the meta-route (i know you said itā€™s not necessarily a true route and also if it was my heart would break so. meta route). it absolutely tickled me pink how pink lemonade is NOT AVAILABLE. i adored how instead of experiencing the government assigned chapstick flavour in the Kiss Scene we are the ones wearing the chapstick. applying it to izuku kind of. technically. he is NOT wearing Moulded To Your Ass line but his ass is so fine he may as well be iā€™m so delighted!!!
I also absolutely adore how you bring your other interests into the fic like star trek and perhaps ouran high school host club? maybe? i ALSO liked how the ā€œfine. lotusā€ REALLY reminded me of your hawks fic ā€œspine, babyā€.
the way that you pointed out hitoshis across all routes love in izukus route because i did not notice and now it is all i can see! heartbreak!!!! i think izuku is a very very difficult character to nail and by god did you nail it iā€™ve said it already and iā€™ll say it again you should be beyond proud of yourself.
i fear i may have to send more asks because you wrote 60k and a cumulative OVER 200k so there is much to consider. I donated to your ko fi and im only mentioning it in this ask because i think you should promo it
oh, hello!!! of course i remember you!!! you were very clever about it all!!! good to hear from you again!!!
may i be honest?? i am so STUPID i did not even realise i was destroying the throughlines. i was just thinking about how if a fundraiser has two pre-made cocktails, they prob don't have much to offer for non-alcoholic girlies. that since we haven't kissed him yet, we should get the chapstick so that we can focus on it more. GOD you've pointed out something really cool; i wish i had been consciously thinking about it so it could be cooler!!!!
and lololol i wanted to give izuku one of my specific badges of honour, which is Nerd So Into Star Trek That They Know Behind-the Scenes Stories. he deserves to be really into more than just hero work, and there's so much star trek stuff out there that i think his obsessive, cataloguing nature would carry over well. and i remember i put in "suoh's seaside cafe" thinking of tamaki ohshc--was there something else i ref with them, too? i wouldn't doubt it, since i am into ohshc, but the specific ref is escaping me rn
hitoshi!!! we love him!!! and Worse, he Loves Us Always!!!! and izuku--thaaaaaaaank you for saying i write him well, bc he is a difficult lil guy. thank you!!!!
and..........oh my god???? oh my GOD?????????? you donated to my ko-fi????? gracious. good lord. wow, okay, firstly, i canNOT thank you enough; i now feel like i'm a little victorian newspaper serial writer who got paid for their work--golly, wow, you are so VERY, VERY kind and generous; thank you so much!!!!!!!! (if i can figure out how to do a promo post, i will, but this hasn't happened before, so it may take some screwing around lololol.) but GOSH thank you so much. i'm v v excited to hear from you now, and i'll love any more thoughts you send in!!! i'm really glad that you like the silly stories i write!!!!!! xx.

thinking about how tamaki acts extra obnoxious when heā€™s upset. like when weā€™re first introduced to his grandma in the manga and she calls him dirty and refuses to let him touch her, he instantly laughs it off and acts all goofy. and this makes even more sense when you think about how annoying he was when he first met kyoya like.. his mother basically just abandoned him in this country he knows nothing about and heā€™s acting extra manic, making kyoya do all these things for him, asking him to take him to kyoto on a whim etc. and thinking about how thatā€™s the way he copes is so interesting and so sad because it shows that he internalized everything his mother said about how she just wants him to be happy BUT in the most unhealthy way possible where he just acts insanely positive every time he feels a twinge of sadness

okay so itā€™s implied that anne-sophie taught tamaki how to play piano and tamaki played piano to cheer her up and bond with his mother. and then he plays piano to cheer up his grandmother, and that helps the two of them bond. this bond over the piano convinces his grandmother to let him see anne-sophie when she comes to japan. tamakiā€™s love is the piano, is music. theyā€™re all linked in a circle, just as his parents dreamed him to beā€” the link that will reunite their family.
then also. he plays piano and bonds with kyoya. by the law of equivalency, kyoya is part of his family. thatā€™s how it works right

I translate the excerpt that supposedly started the Moriharu rumor
Part 2 of my post about the origins of the Mori/Haruhi rumor.
After taking a look at the english excerpt and translating it from spanish and portuguese, we barely looked at the original japanese text. I translated one word and left it at that. But why not translate the whole thing and see what is really in there?
Let's do it after the cut! ā†“
Disclaimer: I'm not a native speaker and only took 3 years of japanese classes. I took two days to translate this and reviewed all the grammar I could to do it right, but there might be mistakes here.
But the translations we have aren't much better so, shrugs
First of all, let's take a look at the japanese text again:
Tumblr media
My first thought was "that's a long ass sentence at the beginning, fml!".
Because of the differences between japanese and english grammar (and japanese being able to cut some things from the sentences) the text can be worded differently depending on how you interpret it or structure it. No wonder this excerpt has so many different translations, it can be taken in different ways depending on the translator.
Here is my own attempt to translate it (with comments below):
"If he is left alone - a 'doesn't talk, serious face guy' as always - the story tends to end up progressingĀ¹. A person that can nonchalantly torment HatoriĀ² over and over. But my love for him is bigĀ³ (laughs) For Hatori, Mori and Haruhi may beā“ a targetāµ dark horseā¶ couple, or not."
Ā¹I feel that it could also be read as "the story tends end up plot twisting". Yes, the same kanji means both "plot twist" and "development, progression". But I think she meant that the story goes on without him doing anything. Yes, this sentence was hard to translate. Another possible way to translate it could be "if left alone, the 'doesn't talk, serious face guy' story tends to end up progressing/twisting." But then why would she worry about it? lol
Ā²could also be read as "casually worries Hatori over and over". I can't figure out the exact verb because they both use the same kanji and very similar conjugations. But the meaning doesn't change much. And torment sounds funnier with the next sentence lol
Ā³Unsure if it's her love or his love since it doesn't use a name. I'm going to guess it's about her, since she just talked about how much he worries/torments her.
ā“she uses ćØ恋, that is a quoting structure used for something uncertain, unconfirmed or a rumor.
āµThis kanji confused me because I'm used to see it in the context of turning words into adjectives. But it doesn't seem to be the case here since it's missing the ćŖ used with it. ēš„'s meaning alone is "target" or "subject". I'm going to go with target since it's the only one that makes sense, but it might be some kind of slang I don't know. Maybe it's used to mean something like 'endgame'? DON'T TAKE THIS AS TRUTH, I'M GUESSING HERE. But if that's the case, then I can see how it could confuse people.
ā¶in japanese, she uses a term that means an unlikely win in horse racing, I tried to use the closest thing in english. I go more in depth about the term on my last post.
One thing that surprised me is that every single translation we looked at on my last post skipped something from the excerpt. The english one cut the "story develops/plot twists" part entirely. Same for the spanish version. The brazilian portuguese one kept closer to the original text (using "plot twist" instead of "developing"), but the translation error at the end kinda ruined it.
So what conclusion can we take from this? It definitely does not confirm them as a couple. The "or not" at the end of the text makes it obvious that she was joking with this. It's something similar to the shippy illustrations of the Hosts with Haruhi at the end of the manga volumes, just another of Hatori's attempts to confuse the readers and keep all Haruhi couples as possibilities.
But looking at the text (and it's many different translations) we can see where people took some parts of the rumor from:
The "they were supposed to be canon!" could have come from people missing the "or not" at the end of the excerpt, along with the uncertain tone of the sentence being lost in translation. It could have also been the many translations calling them Hatori's favorite couple, or maybe even the "my love (for him) is big" part being translated as "his love is big".
The "she changed it" probably comes from the "plot twist/development" part being translated differently depending on the language.
The "Tamaki became the male lead because he was more popular" part is not here are at all, but, like I said on my last post, I have a theory that it got taken from a rumor from another fandom.
Does that mean this excerpt was the origin of the rumor? Who knows! It could have come from something else. But since this is mentioned in every discussion about it, I felt like it wouldn't hurt to translate the original.

The Ouran anime has broken the 4th wall a few times; when Kyoya asked us if love was beginning at the end of episode one and when Tamaki admitted that he and Haruhi are the main love interests.
So this begs the idea, what if they have behind the scenes moments too?
Like someone yells cut and they stalk off to their chairs, revisiting the script and getting a drink of water before having to go back on in five.
They all eat a small snack while laughing over their silly moments, sarcastically critiquing their acting.
They tell Haruhi she's great at acting like the lifeless heroine and she jokingly says she was inspired by Mori's character to which he playfully flicks her head with a "hey!".
Tamaki complains they don't get his good side in most of the camera angles but Hikaru retorts he doesn't have a good side to begin with. Kaoru snickers and elbows Hikaru, saying they shouldn't anger "the king".
Hunny spits the cake out of his mouth into a napkin and reaches for a handful of grapes, growing tired of the artificial sweetness he has to munch every day. He doesn't complain but it's kind of obvious he's getting tired of it.
Kyoya texts his lawyer for updates on his schedule and laughs along with everyone's musings.
They're really good friends outside of the Ouran production. Although they aren't exactly like their characters they still get along and enjoy every second of filming.

I'm not kidding when I say @falling-pages , @ouranbound and I have discussed this VERY idea into such detail that we practically wrote our own story revolving about the host club actually being a cast of actors and their relationships off set! I love that this idea is wide-spread!
I love meta stories and @falling-pages is a beast in writing them so well! The idea of the hosts' actors being completely different from the characters they portray holds endless possibilities and opens the doors for our unrequited loves to have a chance!
Whatā€™s your opinion if ouran was like an actual tv show and the characters were just actors they played for ouran? Liked that one episode but a real tv show and they just act ?
I think it would be cute!
And if they're just actors that means that they're all co workers and Tamaki and Haruhi aren't actually love interests and Hikaru still technically has a shot with Haruhi.
It would be cute if they were all still friends outside of work too. Or if Hikaru and Kaoru weren't actually brothers, even though they do look similar and get mistaken for siblings all the time, but are actually just friends from college.
Kyoya's actor has very bad family circumstances and is in debt.
Tamaki was a very handsome homeless man the director found on the street. Now he's very popular within the agency. He's constantly getting scouted.
Takashi is actually 10 years older than his scripted character and Mitsukuni has a naturally deep voice.
The possibilities are endless

Whatā€™s so upsetting about both Kyoya and Kaoruā€™s characters is that they constantly put others first and believe that other people deserve happiness more than them
its this really beautiful but heart-wrenching selflessness because Kyoya is clearly in love with both Tamaki and Haruhi, but refuses to go after either of them because ā€œthey make more sense together than he makes with anybody elseā€.
And then thereā€™s Kaoru, who even pushes his own brother away because he knows Hikaru needs to grow on his own no matter how much it hurts and isolates him. Ā Hell, he throws out his pursuit of Haruhi incredibly early because he knows Hikaru needs it more than him.
Both of them put so much emphasis on taking care of others that they neglect themselves.
