Hey, I just wanted to say I love your art and your portrayal of fiddlestan, but also wanna ask what's Fidds and Emma's relationship like?

I imagined it's not great if Fidds was constantly cheating on her.

i'm in love with this lady now so i can finally answer this

i like thinking that emma may also went to backupsmore and starts dating fiddleford halfway through college. at this point, fidds and ford are having their little roommate fling and he's like "oh well i have a girlfriend now, but it doesn't count when i get nasty with you because it's just guys being dudes." ford and emma also do not like each other, but fiddleford likes both of them and can't commit to one or the other to save his life. he tries to make it work and they basically end up like this:

other than fiddlefords unfaithful tendencies, their relationship goes well until it doesn't. he eventually choses emma over ford because it was the 70's, but also he really did love her and wanted to start a family. he feels really guilty about cheating and does his best to stay monogamous; but bro occasionally gets the itch and attends his coworkers swinger parties to bang other peoples husbands and wives because it was the 70's. this would be fine if he wasn't doing it behind his wife's back after she repeatedly let's him know that the thing with ford in college was just an experiment and she doesn't want him to see other people. obviously this all culminates in fidds cheating on emma may with ford in gravity falls, which is the final straw for her.

long story short: emma may didn't deserve any of that because she's really cool according to the personality that i have given her. also i love when this guy cannot end up with anyone, which i think is fair considering how flawed of a person he is.

Y'all I've always thought it was hilarious what Anet did to warbands.

So. you have Rytlock, who in Edge of Destiny said he had "about a dozen" brothers and sisters each. so including himself, that's 25 in a warband. The wiki says a warband is 6-25 members, so Rytlock was on the high end, and average would probably be 12-18 members.

and then every warband in the game proceeds to have BARELY 6.

you have 5 options to choose from for a sparring partner. Rox's old warband had 6 members (or maybe 7). We've still never met more than one of Rytlock's 'bandmates. Almorra gets one 'bandmate mentioned by name.

most charr in the entire game, including top-ranking tribunes and imperators, are not with their warbands, do not talk about their warbands, do not go places with their warbands. Tribune Bhuer Goreblade shows up with a small handful of 'bandmates in the charr level 10 story.

You do not see groups of 12-18 charr warbands roaming around Ascalon with fascinating life stories and 'bandmate dynamics and mourning the latest one(s) who died, with mementos, with stories about how 'my sparring partner saved my life' and 'this member of the warband whom I know least of all my bandmates would die for me and they proved it last week' and 'Im unhappy with bandmate X but I would kill for them' or 'bandmates Y and Z obviously love each other. wanna join the betting pool?' and the legionnaire who confides in you about their tough decisions of who they're picking to be their second/replacement. All within the same warband.

Not even one warband like this. Much less the multiple that charr culture deserves.

Even in IBS, the, at least half-way, charr-centric story, our main focus warband is Ryland's Steel warband. Who has, predictably, 6 members. And like 10 fresh-faced, unnamed recruits who have 0 history or dynamic with the Main Cast. even the 6 named members, who have vibes and character and a bit of a dynamic, are stupid shallow. (and tbf they didn't have time to explore it much, but really?)

We do not see Bangar's 'bandmates. We do not see Rytlock's 'bandmates. We do not hear anything about Almorra's old 'bandmates. We do not see Ember Doomforge's 'bandmates. We do not see Smodur's 'bandmates. We do not see Malice's 'bandmates. We do not see Efram's 'bandmates.

We see a lot of 'cubs this' (with Rytlock and with Efram), I heard a lot of speculation about 'cubs that' in fandom spaces, we see a lot of 'ohoho relationship/mating drama' (from Rytlock/Crecia and also Almorra/Bangar). We do NOT see ANYTHING about warbands, supposedly the building-blocks of charr society.

Even the charr player's old warband is mostly disbanded/defected to Dominion.

I have yet to see any real warband dynamics in canon.

Even in the books! Rytlock's 24 'bandmates are fair game because they're offscreen. And Anet has consistently refused to show any of them. Even Rytlock's dynamic with Crecia is pretty much just "we're old exes" and never "we grew up together. we fought together. our bonds are deeper than those of biology, than the fact we have a cub. I stabbed you once and you knew I didn't mean it because we are 'bandmates." Sure, Crecia mentions once "ohoho we used to see the ice elementals here as cubs."

But in the books! Sea of Sorrows for instance! iirc the majority of Sykax's warband is unnamed! Ember Doomforge, again, no mentions of warband! Rytlock nor Malice nor Almorra talk about inter-warband relations!

we never see any warbands larger than 6 members.

And this is all because, OBVIOUSLY, who wants to come up with 12-18 whole characters when it's just the one who's relevant to the story? Coming up with 6 is hard enough it only happens in special occasions. which doesn't include the legit actual player character.

(the player character, whose warband is decimated to TWO flaming members (including yourself!!) in the tutorial, and! yay! fun lorebuilding! you get to rebuild the warband. this adds a flaming total of TWO members. now you're at flaming four. FLAMING FANTASTIC. the player-flaming-character gets FOUR 'bandmates. this is atrocious!! and tbf if you compile all the options across all the branches you might end up in the (low end, probably) of 12-18. which is fair!)

but like. I do sympathize. I really do. characters are hard. names especially! which would be the bare minimum yknow. have an 18-member warband with zero dialogue but! they do have names! that wander around Ascalon. not even an event chain just average-sized warband representation PLEASE.

like. I did it myself. I invented a warband and I BARELY got them to 6 members. I had name, gender, profession for each of them. they were minor characters so they didn't even get the development that Ryland's Steel got. names, professions and the vibes from that. I felt so bad for only giving them 6 bc I was reinforcing the stereotype!!

but, so, uhhhh

I have been handed an OC. from a friend. who has given me full creative license to write abt them in my story.

I gave him 23 'bandmates. They all have names and genders. They're split up into who is whose sparring partner and who bunks with whom. That is all.

I also get VibesTM from each member's name. I'm slowly building relationship maps. (mostly just. from character A's PoV, ranking who they are closest with. Then doing it from Character B's PoV. it's WILDLY fascinating.) I have three charr 'bandmates who have their own little niche, they three are besties, they're each other's sparring partners and bunkmates and everybody (main relevant characters at least) knows them as 'those three'. and I know their names. none of the characters I'm writing about know them very well (relative to the rest of the warband ofc. ofc each one would DIE for them and probably knows their struggles and combat strengths and weak points and so on. but I haven't invented any of those yet) and that's all. I don't have a single bit of info about them except that and the vibes of each name. but hey!!!! WARBAND DYNAMICS MY BELOVED!?!!

Then all of a sudden... he sees Ace walk up to you with a very flirty grin on his face.

Little did he know... that for Floyd watching this scene behind you from a distance, it's "bye bye" for Ace's life.

Ace just is casually talking to you or to him- confessing his feelings for you.

Floyd then hears all of this since Ace has a loud mouth, and would stand behind you and grab your shoulder hard. While he is glaring at Ace from behind you.

But if that wasn't enough to get the hint that Floyd was jealous. Then I would like to say that once Ace spills the hot tea infront of you- whether infront of Floyd or not.

It would most definitely- and absolutely obliterate your profound image of your dear boyfriend, Floyd.

Whether you already knew about it, and wanted to stay with him regardless of him being a yandere. OR- your just finding out about this since you don't pay that much attention to his yandere tendencies.

Now, Floyd finally steps besides you, with his arm not around your shoulders. Either threatening Ace or denying all his (real) accusations, false.

If Ace, and probably most likely will- is still persistent and keeps saying that Floyd's actions aren't normal (which he is right about), might not be good for Ace.

Since Floyd would either end this whole thing in physical violence or just rolling his eyes walking you off somewhere else.

Though it is really most common that Floyd would end this in physical violence- Since he IS a yandere and stuff.

He would be leaving Ace in a graveyard with his tombstone.

Jade:

Once again, I don't think anyone would be THAT surprised if Jade just kills him before he could say anything.

Having a crush on someone who is already in a relationship with Jade, even as a yandere, is an automatic death sentence itself.

He also acts like a mind reader (and is one), no one besides his senpais in their 3rd or 4th year could beat Jade.

He is manipulative like no other.

This man could even make you feel like the reason to cause all of this drama.

Jade would probably get rid of him by these possible solutions, A: blackmailing- which maybe he learned from Azul, B & C: physical violence or tormentation- which he even does absolutely effortlessly.

Though tormentation would be the closest solution for him in this scenario.

Jade would probably be even like his brother, watch from a distance as he watches Ace's sad excuse of a confession.

Knowing Jade, he probably even LAUGHS when Ace tells you about how the way he treats you is wrong.

Yes, he has that much confidence in himself.

Though after this, he won't be nice to anyone else besides you. Even his brother and Azul are considered apart of that list.

Jade would even make you stay away from anyone else that is as close as Ace is.

It would be even worse if your just finding out that Jade is a yandere, since this guy is going to lock you in his and makes sure you never see the light of day. (Even though there is a goddamn window in his room).

With you only having to see exception of him obviously.

And before Ace even knows it- his only last memories is hearing someone say: "Shock The Heart".

the show fails as a love story because it spends the entirety of it telling us that they’re supposed to be together and that rheyre made for each other while also spending very little time actually developing the square into a relationship that warrants the title. like ive been rewatching it with a friend and im surprised with how little space their actual relationship takes up. both mari and cn spend so much of their time trying to get the attention of their crush that the relationship between the characters takes the backseat. like yeah, mari/cn has a crush on LB/blondie boy and we’re supposed to root for them because of that, thats easy. but once they get together what is left? what makes their relationship special? its not the fact that they’re a crime fighting duo, the reveal hasnt happened. like i wanted to see them succeed with confessing to their crushes and getting together with them, but what is there to root for when they are together? like they went canon, yay glitter confetti etc, but now what?

“Ohoho they love each other so much they’re so romantic” they’re making out and making grand declarations without actually building up the things that make relationships mutually beneficial and lasting. They’re that high school couple that has a really dramatic breakup that drags throughout the school year after spending a grand total of two weeks as an official item. Drama. That’s the word to describe them. Realistically they’d be a dramatic mess. Adrien and Marinette have a shit ton of issues to work through as individuals but I just can’t see them actually helping each other achieve their necessary growth.

i guess some general headcanons will do

❀ they have movie nights in vil’s room. vil always has the best suggestions, but sometimes rook and epel will bring something different (rook likes dramas/romantic/ obscure artsy movies, and epel likes action/thrillers/horror, he especially thinks its funny to show shitty horror movies to see vil and rook banter about if they’re objectively good or not). typically the night ends with them snuggled up together but every now and then rook brings movies with…steamy scenes…

❀ vil and epel are often the subject of rook’s art. if you ask for his notes u would definitely stumble upon a few drawings/poems about the two some probably not school appropriate

❀ epel may or may not have carved his bfs portraits into apples. he always gets embarrassed and eats them immediately, especially if someone wants to see what he’s doing

❀ sometimes when epel’s family sends him apple products, epel will gift/cook goodies for rook and vil. in return, vil made a perfume with apples/apple blossoms for epel

❀ vil would probably want to keep their relationship on the down low, mostly for his bfs sake, but rook and epel never behave and always tease/flirt with vil. everyone knows anyways and it doesn’t help when a frustrated vil drags one or both of his bfs away to “deal” with them

❀ on that note, its not uncommon for rook and epel to get unwanted attention, usually from jealous vil admirers or vil haters who attend NRC, but no one has the guts to legitimately hurt them yet

❀ epel and vil have a praise kink. rook loves praising them. do with this what you will

⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped?

ohoho, so many. ive posted excerpts from a few on ao3, such as the gwourtney tdwt rewrite that i scrapped & the trent comes back to tdwt instead of duncan au that i only wrote one chapter for. the rest are locked away in my files and seldom looked at.

there's a fic for a new season back on the island that takes place a year or so after tdrr with all new challenges that i gave up on after like two and a half chapters (nemma was the main couple for that one to give you a sense of how long ago i wrote it lol).

there's a tdas fic from alejandro noah courtney and gwen's povs (guess what the main ships are...) that i planned out extensively and then started writing for that i haven't worked on in years, probably because the actual writing of it didn't seem nearly as good as the planning did.

there's a really old gwent & nemma fic that i think was an au of the black friday musical? idk what i was thinking. it was bad. it was nonsensical and it was bad.

and then there was this whole high school au that mostly focused on the theatre department and was absolutely based on my high school that was a hyperspecific flavor of weird (us students described it as a combination of a summer camp and a cult so uh... i guess that isn't too far off from tdi).

there was also a post tdrr season i planned out that took place on a cruise ship and contestants competed in trios? i read the one and only chapter i wrote for that and apparently alejandro had a younger sister named marcela who is honestly kind of an icon lol i should bring her back for a different fic or something.

and pretty much assume that for every season of total drama, i had at least one rewrite planned that i eventually abandoned. honestly it's sort of a long term goal of mine to write my own version of every season of td. i've got tdwt with slippery slopes, tdrr with amicus curiae, and eventually tdi with the courtney time travel au. we'll see how long that takes lmao it's already been over a year and i'm like 40% done at the most.

❌ What's a trope you will never write?

probably any kind of soulmate au. i just don't like the idea of a romance that's so predestined that there isn't any real development between the characters. i like to read and write feelings growing organically, and when the characters instantly lock eyes and have this automatic deep connection it just feels very artificial to me. that's not to say that all soulmate aus are like that, and there's actually one or two (non td) that i enjoy and regularly reread.

but i think to write a soulmate au i would need a very strong plot revolving around soulmarks and whatnot and i would rather just have the plot without the soulmates. i feel like the concept of soulmates implies that there's only one person a character can have a meaningful relationship with and once they find that person the relationship will be perfect.

i like reading/writing about the struggles that come with making the choice to be with someone you love without any certainty that they'll be your perfect person forever. the fact that you don't have that certainty but choose to stay and foster a relationship and have that hope for a bright future together makes it a lot more meaningful to me. i also feel like soulmate aus tend to prioritize romance much higher than friendship and those are two kinds of relationships that i like to place on equal ground in my writing.

im not trying to say that all soulmate aus are bad, or that ppl shouldn't enjoy them. they can absolutely be some people's jam and if it makes you happy then go for it! there are definitely tropes i like that other people don't for valid reasons and that's all okay.

OHHH THIS IS A GOOD ONE!!! i think they both are definitely guilty of this, especially when they start dating. they do everything for one another out of LOVE, even if it's stupid/reckless/nonsensical/etc so this is THEE excuse. but PRE-RELATIONSHIP i think this is definitely pierre. like. he's been in love w charles for so long, but he knows charles doesn't feel the same so he tries to like. put a bit of a barrier between them bc theyre so close that it's already pushing the boundaries of pierre's "i can be friends with you without falling more in love with you" whole mindset. but charles NOTICES. (of course he does theyre unhinged abt each other always.) it just blows up into this huge thing of i thought you knew me better than that and if something has changed, don't you owe me that and all the real big drama stuff. and pierre just. he's so frustrated that charles won't stop trying to get closer. so he just. "IT'S BECAUSE I LOVE YOU." and then they start kissing so it all works out <33

4. Which one is more protective? Who needs to be ‘protected’?

ohoho i think they're both equally protective of one another but honestly it depends on the circumstance. right now? i think pierre is v protective of charles/feels like he has to protect him w/all the shenanigans happening at ferrari rn. he knows it's a nightmare, and that charles is getting the short end of the stick etc etc. and charles is too dedicated a worker to REALLY complain so of course pierre is like "i got u baby <3".

but also. we've seen in the past that charles is VERY protective of pierre too. the spa interview from 2019 says it all, right? he knows when to step in. it's all about the moment - they are yin/yang, after all, so it kind of tracks that this kind of feeling is fluid between them.

9. What are their thoughts on having children?

3 kids. ten fat babies. im not even gonna elaborate besides the fact that 1) pierre wants to put SO many babies in charles, and 2) charles WANTS to have so many of pierres babies. its just. theyre both such family men. the moment they retire from f1 they somehow appear in the public eye with odette and everyone is like "???? when did this happen???" like they werent counting down the days they could actually settle down and start this family of their own.

11. Do either try to hide their emotions if upset? Can the other still tell?

i think charles definitely tries. he's very PR trained w/ferrari so he's good at keeping it all in. but pierre can read him like a BOOK. the hidden emotions never last long, anyway, bc charles can't keep anything from pierre no matter how hard he tries, but he tries all the same. pierre does it a little bit too but imo charles is the main offender here.

14. How do their personalities compliment each other? How do they clash?

theyre both the same brand of idiot! silly, devoted, competitive to a fault. i think they've been friends long enough that their personalities have grown to fit together like puzzle pieces.

as for ways that they clash? i think the competitiveness can become a little ugly - not malicious, but all-consuming, yknow? so lost in the sport/pursuit of something that it becomes more important than the basic things, which means they worry about each other too. they'll never say "stop competing" n shit because. it's them. they know each other by heart. they will never impede each other's desire to win. but...it's one of the ways they butt heads bc they're SO alike.

celadon is an outrider for the knights of favonius (+and besties with amber c: ) now we already know the whole "drama" between the knights of favonius and the fatui, so how much more when celadon catches herself falling for a literal HARBINGER of the fatui???? I know, right? 😌🙈

though, when they first met (which is in liyue) she actually didn't know he was a dangerous man, he presented himself very politely and generously since she was new to liyue and he happened to idle around the northland bank, and seeing a new face was most definitely interesting for him >:D they became close after that. but childe already recognized her as a favonius member, noticing the emblem on her uniform but kept quiet about it because she was interesting to him ohoho. but of course, she realizes that he's dangerous as time goes on and becomes more sharp of his presence, but that doesn't stop him from constantly checking her and being his usual playful self, as much as she wants to avoid him, but she in turn can't help but be attracted to him 🙈🙈

"Hello, Ladybloggers! It's Alya here, back with my livestream up and running again!" the reporter greeted, before scoffing, "I had to cut my other one off at the insistence of that Fox hero wannabe."

From off to the side, someone politely requested, "Miss? Is it okay if you speak a little quiet-"

"He's such a brat - he doesn't deserve a miraculous," she carried on, as if not hearing the paramedic. "I mean, what about Rena Rouge? Shouldn't she be here to help instead of him?"

She adjusted the glasses resting on her nose, then began to talk again. Her tone was much more excited as she enthused, "Anyway, I'm here with a big scoop!"

Alya pressed a button on the phone to reverse the camera. She pointed it to the girl in front of her.

"I'm here with the amazing Lila Rossi, who not only designed Jagged Stone's new album, but is his honorary niece! Crazy, right?"

The only response was Lila whimpering louder, whilst her sclera were a bright white and her agony was easily visible.

"Miss Cesaire, is now an appropriate time to be recording? It is quite easy to see that your friend is in serious pain."

She turned to the stern voice. It had come from another paredemic. "That's why I'm recording! The whole reason that she's in pain is because of Marinette getting that Protector guy akumatized in the first place. It's obvious that she's working for Hawk Moth."

There were a few guffaws from off to the side, followed by several glares piercing the Italian nearby. However, said Italian was too busy clutching her head to notice.

In a wobbly tone, she pled, "Stop, Hawk Moth, please...I'll do better next time if you just make it stop..."

"Would there be any way to stop the pain, Miss Cesaire?"

"Well, yeah," Alya replied noncommittally. "The akuma said something about admitting to what she's done to Marinette and Felix, but there's nothing for her to say! She's always been so nice to them yet they still bully her."

"Are you sure?"

"Of course I'm sure!" the teen snapped. "Why wouldn't I be?"

All of a sudden, a scream tore through Lila's throat. It seemed to echo all around, making everybody in the vicinity wince and cover their ears - trying to block out the shrill shriek.

There were tears in her eyes, as the brunette choked, "Fine! I'll say it...I'll say it!"

"Lila, what-"

"I've made the lives of those two miserable!" she yelled, head up as if talking to the Protector atop the Eiffel Tower. "I spread rumours about them to make their parents think of them as disgraces! As mistakes! And kick them out!"

Alya reared back, as the grip on her phone grew slack.

"I threatened that Mari-Brat in the bathroom to take all of her friends away, and said that she did that to me! I told the class that she bullied me and tried to hit me!"

Some concerned citizens poked their heads into the place that she was in. Their eyebrows rose in curiosity as they listened.

"I got akumatized into Volpina again just so I could hold her hostage - I got that stupid reporter girl to turn into Lady Wi-Fi to help me!"

The female dropped her phone, leaving it to crack by its screen on the ground. The livestream didn't cut off.

Lila heaved a breath, her chest rising and falling at a fast pace. There was a faint burn in her throat, along with a familiar torture beginning to take over her head again.

"Arrgghh, fine!" she growled, before shouting out, "I faked a leg injury to get her in trouble! I planted some cheap necklace and test answers on her to frame her for cheating! I'm the whole reason that Mari-Brat was expelled!"

The white covering her eyes finally disappeared, leaving dilated green orbs to scan about. She exhaled heavily over and over.

That was when a rush of air invaded all present. Colonies of magical ladybugs swarmed in, circling around Lila until her sweat and tears dissipated into thin air.

By that time, Alya had already picked up her phone from the floor. It was pointed straight at the person in front.

"Have anything to say for the camera, Lie-la?"

"...Angel, are you okay?"

"I think we broke her."

"Don't be ridiculous, Adrien. She's merely shocked by the news."

"No sh- crap, I mean. That Lila girl is horrible, what the heck? I'd be a bit dazed too if someone that bad was finally locked up for good."

"Oh no, not again!" a blob of red exclaimed, zipping over to Marinette. It ignored the fact that Nightwing screamed and hid behind Red Hood. "I think a few hugs will help her get out of it."

"Of course they would, Sugarcube. It's not like that works for you as well."

"Plagg!"

Damian and Felix shared a nod, before proceeding to lean into the girl. One wrapped their arms around her waist, and the other, around her shoulders. Together, they provided a cocoon of comfort.

Eventually, she managed to break out of her stupor, to be met with the sight of her two friends embracing her from both sides. She blushed bright and buried her head into the shoulder of Damian, who simply chuckled alongside Felix. Both of their lips twitched upwards.

"Ohoho...I see what's going on here. They're in a relationship, aren't they?"

"No, actually," Adrien responded, watching them have their impromptu cuddle session. "They're all as oblivious as goldfish when it comes to love."

"Aaaannd that's what happens when an emotionally constipated man has adopted you. Well, in Demon Spawn's case, 'given birth to you'."

"Jaybird!"

"What?"

"You mean like my father?"

The two brothers turned to Adrien, making him elaborate, "He never shows emotion and only sees me in person like once a month."

There was a moment of silence.

"...Jesus kid, no. I meant in the way that he just doesn't understand feelings of love since a bunch of girls have toyed with his feelings before. What kind of father do you have?"

"Gabriel Agreste," the model deadpanned.

Dick let out a gasp. "Isn't that the guy who neglects his own son and puts him on such restrictive diets that they're on the border of abuse and- ohmygosh you're his son, you poor thing."

Nightwing enveloped him in a hug, causing him to tense up. However, he soon trailed off into a loud purr, that made everyone in the room face him.

"Holy sh- crap. Selina's gonna love you."

FanFiction Writer Appreciation Day

i actually read very little fanfic right now because of hectic biologist life/mostly being outdoors + 90% of my “reading” happening via audiobook these days, but I did get back into Dragon Age fanworks again during quarantine/isolation times this spring! so just wanted to highlight the things i’ve been reading, and the writers who’ve created them, for fanfiction writer appreciation day :) Here they are in no particular order besides how I found them in my reblogs/many open tabs. 

Chapter works!

1. Till We From Winter Wake by @asaara-writes​: FenHawke, DA2: Hawke and Fenris are unexpectedly pulled into a Fairytale setting thanks to a mysterius book brought home from the Black Emporium. They must figure out what’s going on to find each other and the way back out. I adore fairytale settings, and I definitely loved this (I may be biased as I also prompted it, but it’s also the truth!). It features mystery, ballroom dancing, delectably unsettling body horror, dramatic fights in the garden, and moments of whirlwind romance between the pair.

2.  Loki by @littleblue-eyedbird​: Solavellan modern AU, Lavellan owns a kitten named Loki who causes mischief by repeatedly sneaking out to steal her neighbor Solas’ boxers... luckily this pushes the pair into interacting more and more. Super cute, super sweet, and super nice to cuddle up and read while you’re pretending the rest of the world doesn’t exist. I don’t really read much fluff but this is one I’m excited to see another chapter of!

3. A Lesson in Drowning by @theherocomplex: FenHawke, DA2. Something terrible is happening in Kirkwall, and something or someone is seeking Hawke out to warn her about it--or are they trying to kill her? This fic is full of secrets, intrigue, unreality, and drama, and Hawke’s descent into maybe madness (or maybe something much more sinister) is enthralling to witness. It’s also given me an entirely new perspective on Orsino that I love. 

4. The Respite Hollow (or, The Ice Was Cold and So Were Their Hearts Until They Fell in Love) by @loquaciousquark​: Fenhawke modern AU, Hawke and Fenris are both competitive figure skaters, and chance (or fate) pushes them together as a pairs partner. This fic is cute, dramatic, and suspenseful all in turn. Covers the confrontation with a modern-era Danarius who you will hate just as much as his cannon in-game counterpart. I have adored watching figure skating since I was a child (even though I failed out of my own lessons, and had to swap to the more brute-force sport of hockey instead) and this fic captures the same magic atmosphere as being in a freshly-zambonied ice rink.

5. Tread Softly by @hauntedfalcon​: FenHawke, post DAI Here Lies the Abyss. I’m now and forever an absolute sucker for Hawke-in (and falling out of)-the-Fade content. The pair (and other DA2 friends) take island life and sailing around the seas of Seheron to fun new heights as they get back to their fun former pastimes of killing slavers/freeing slaves. I always love to read depictions of the Fog Warriors, and was delighted to find a fic in which they more heavily feature. 

6. By Any Other Name and Sulevin Ghilana Hanin by @lesbianarcana​: Fenris x OC, post-DA2 and during the DAI timeline. These two fics are in the same universe, and fun because they feature Asher’s DAI companion OC, Nyssa, as well as canon-established characters. The first story is from Fenris’ perspective after the events of DA2, as he leaves Kirkwall to try to solve the alarming problem of his lyrium-tattoo induced powers no longer functioning correctly. The second is from Nyssa’s perspective as zie joins the Inquisition to help defeat Corypheus--but zie has more to hir backstory/motivations than you’d assume. Having an OC thrown into the mix gives some fun fresh perspectives on the Inquisition gang, and Asher is also doing an AMAZING comic adaptation of By Any Other Name as well!

Short fic! I love one-shots, ficlets, drabbles, and short things that don’t endanger bedtime or mean I have to get off my phone and onto the computer to read. Here’s some highlights!

1. Free by @nug-juggler​: FenHawke, DA2. Hawke dies during the encounter with Danarius. Fenris reacts. Y’all know I love to s u f f e r 

2. solivagants by @roseategales​: Solavellan, DAI. A wonderful tiny exploration of their relationship dynamic that is both painful and true.  

3. alpenglow by @morriqan​: Solavellan, DAI. a cute, steamy, and humorous morning. I couldn’t stop from smiling during this one.

4. Lost by @nug-juggler​: FenHawke, post-DA2. Back to wonderful angst!!! Fenris POV, and he is having trouble remembering exactly what went down in Kirkwall... and exactly how old their kids are. 

5. i. reality // ii. rise and fall by @littleblue-eyedbird​: Solavellan, post-DAI. a very short pair of wonderfully heartbreaking prose, full of that anger/desperation/ longing/regret that this pairing is perfect for.

6. Dulces Sueños, Cariño by @saraheliza95​: Zevran x Surana, DAO: ohoho it’s the ~massage~ scene for this pair, and Zevran is just as sultry as you could desire. 

7. First by @nug-juggler: FenHawke, DA2. Fenris’ first (and second, and third, and) kiss, plus the ever-enjoyable FenHawke bantering that must precede it.

Idk what this is supposed to be, but I guess this is close to my own character analysis, review and reaction to Between Two Worlds! This is so late but I believe that it's better late than never😂 I'll also try to be as objective as possible (but I think that's gonna be hard especially when I talk about Philip/Phillip😂)

Again this is only about what I think and how I interpreted the series and the characters, no hate lol AND this is really long I swear by the stars :>

A. Title

Okay, so the title 'Between Two Worlds' initially made me think that it's gonna be about two people living in two different worlds and upon watching, I could say I'm partially right😂 so I like how it's suppose to symbolise the lives of two different families living in two different worlds. And when I say worlds it's not literally Earth and Mars, what I meant is like worlds as in how they live their lives.

So the Walfords are in the upper-class of society, they are rich, powerful, famous and feared especially because of their patriarch, Phillip. Their lives include deceiting, scaring, and messing with the lives of other people for their gain and pleasure🥺🥺🥺 in short, this fam is really problematic and chaotic😅

On the other hand, the Greys live a simple life in a simple house in a simple village. They have a loving family, yes, they had problems but it's normal for a family to have some problems.

B. Music

I really really love the music. That piano (I think it's piano) thing that is playing in the opening of every episode gives me the chills, the goosebumps. It makes me feel so many emotions like excitement, fear, and thrill,like it leaves me on the edge of my seat😂😭😂

C. Settings/Location

Deym, the location fits the story. I noticed that the main locations are their homes, it's where they mostly spend their scenes so I'm gonna focus on that. That high-rise apartment where the Walfords live screams privilege, fame, power and wealth. They are indeed powerful, they are at the top of the food-chain lol and they live at the top part of that apartment, a symbolism of their place in society _which is at the top. _I'm pretty sure their place makes them act like how they act all through out the series🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️.

On the other hand, the Greys' residence is located in a village(?) or subdivision of some sorts which I think is a simple place and a simple house symbolising their simple life that is away from the drama, away from the spotlight. Simple life gives simple problems I suppose😂😭😂😭😂

D. Families: an overview lolzz (Walfords, Greys, Konigs)

So like I've mentioned, the first two families seem to be the exact opposite of one another. Again, for me, the Walfords are so chaotic and so problematic🥺 the actions they did to one another just don't sit right with me, I think it's so twisted. Like it makes me realize how the grudges that people hold against others could make them act like that. It baffles me so much how they could even do that to each other?😳🥺 Are you so so hurt and so mad that you'll let your husband die in front of you and that you would just sit and chill on the stairs while he's suffering? And are you so hurt and so angry with your wife that you would imprison her in a cage so you could get back at her🥺 these people needs to chill and I think they need to let go of their grudges🥺😭🥺😭

For the Greys, well what can I say...they are pretty much normal, like they are how a family should be, what I could call the ideal. Again, they had problems but that problems were addressed and somehow solved🥺 I just like how the matriarch seems to be a perfect mother with a perfect relationship with her kids and the people around her but she's really like everyone else. She made mistakes and she wasn't even aware of the impact of her actions/words to her kids until her daughter mentioned it 🥺 but what I admire the most about her is that she's willing to take responsibility for her actions and to make amends(which I think the Walfords lack hehe)

Lastly, the Konigs. One word to summarize my thoughts about them: ugh. As much as how the Walfords have made a really bad impression on me, I think that these Konigs are worse than them lmao😂😭😂 this fam consists of the dad who is an unfaithful son of a gun who screwed the Walford matriarch and his hoho own daughter. The mom has some mental illness I'm not really sure about the specific illness which made her go to rehabs and kindaaaa drug dependent, and lastly, the daughter, she is a sly and a bad bitch with bad motives connected to bad people. I feel bad for the Konig youngling tho🥺 she's a bitch but I think no one deserves to be treated like how she was treated by her own father...that's a real disgusting act🥺😭🥺 so yeah, ugh.

E. Characters

Imma focus on them 👆 bec why not

1. Phillip Walford 👀👀

My babe, He is the Walford patriarch, he is a rich bastard who heads the Walford empire or whatever, who also suffers from a heart condition that he eventually needed to undergo a heart transplant. He's vicious and cruel and he's an I don't give a shit about your feelings kind of bastard. A man who probably suffered a lot from the trauma he had from his childhood oh poor bub😭😭 I also have every reason to hate him but I don't because I feel bad for him and his face and emotions,, it just makes me wanna hug him lol😂😭😭

He's like "I'm actually a nice guy but don't fuck with me" kind of man. He's also nosy and he sticks his nose to other people's businesses (Bella's plastic surgery) but I think he hates it when other people stick their noses in his business😂😂I love his sassy remarks and his nonchalant attitude especially towards his wife. He has reasonsss, he does that to punish her for something she had done years years ago that was something hehe quite unforgivable but hoho I could feel it and I could see it...I could feel that he is a jealous man who is in dire need of love and affection. That maybe he's actually still craving for her love and affection...but too bad, years of hostility towards each other had slowly burnt away the love they actually have for each other🥺

I like how he felt so bothered after the heart transplant because he felt that he's changing, he's getting softer, and getting more humane which he doesn't like because he thinks that his enemies would exploit that weakness against him🙄 I like how the badness and viciousness is so engraved to his bones and soul that the mere softness he's suddenly showing to those who surrounds him scares him a lot like a lot...

I also think that he really wants to forgive his wife,,,,but maybe his stubborn pride is hindering him from completely forgiving her...I also think that the reason he went out of his way to find his donor is, make a foundation for Danny, and like he really wanted to meet the Greys is because he somehow sees his ideal family when looking at them,,,it's like his what if, and a _I wish _and I think that's sad🥺😭🥺😭

This baby would have his world torn apart if he knew what his wife schemed on him

2.Cate Walford

She's Phillip's wife. I feel sorry for her especially for the first few episodes because her husband does not show her affection and love,,,he doesn't give her his time,,, he's giving her a hard time,,,and when she thought another man is giving her what she craves for,,,,her husband drove this man to his death or so they all thought lolzz I also like how she is actually a caring person, friend, mom, and wife👀👀

I know she did something unforgivable, she watched her husband have a heart attack, BUT she was initially really worried, she panicked like "Oh no, my husband is having a heart attack. What do I do?" Then she remembered that Phillip drove someone to their own death so she went ".....maybe you deserve to die, monster, how does it feel like tasting your own medicine you gave to others??" I don't forgive her for that tho hehe but that gave me a glimpse to what kind of person she really is.

Also, she's a very lucky woman and I'm veryyyy jealous because she has Phillip, a business tycoon and very jelly husband and eventually Dr. Julian, a well-known cardiologist, as her number two👀👀 I like her tandem with Sandra and I just went 🥺😭 when she opened up to her, like a girl talk of some sorts, it must have been so hard for her to keep all her thoughts and her regrets only to herself for a very long time. She's also pretty clever in a sly way because she schemed a plan against her husband to bring him back. Like bring her old husband back, the loving and caring Phillip Walford👀👀 she's determined to have their love back🥺🥺 BUT I JUST KNOW HELL WOULD BREAK LOSE IF AND WHEN PHILLIP FINDS OUT HER SCHEME HOHO

3. Bart Walford

He's the Walford heir and he's handsome but not as handsome as Phillip lol👀👀👀 he's wise and at the same time dumb🤭🙄 Wise because it would probably take some skills and some brains to appease investors to invest in their company and he did that when Phillip wasn't around. Dumb because he fell in love with a bitch with bad motives and he can't see it!!! 😔😔He loves her so much, he's basically blind ugh🥺🥺🥺

But I do admire how he's so ready to face and fight the whole world for Georgia,,, he'll do everything for her,,,he tries so hard to understand everything about her,,,his world seems to revolve around her and I think that's sooo bad😔👀👀 I mean I don't think that you really should make a person your world because if that person betrays and leaves you, your whole world will crumble apart and you're basically fucked🥺😭

As a 'son' , well,,,,he's a pretty nice who helps his 'father' scheme something to bring down threats for their business🤭👀 I like how defiant and fearless he could get when he got fed up with Phillip😂😭😂😭 I also like his relationship with his mom, they're closer than I initially thought and that he even helped her against Phillip🤭👀 so I therefore conclude that badness is not really innate in a person lolol😂😭😂😭

4. Georgia Konig

Ohoho,,, one word to describe her: bitch🙄 she's so good at manipulating people around her to get and do what she wants. She appeals to the emotions of people around her, making them feel sorry for her. I hate her so much. On top of that, she killed her own father,,, I wouldn't really blame her, he's really disgusting...

She wants to get a part of the Walfords' riches so she paved her way in through Bart. I just hate her so much because she's taking advantage of his feelings towards her🙄 little baby doesn't deserve to be treated like that, little baby deserves to be loved for real

To be honest,,, I don't really think she really loves him. I'm pretty sure that she feels something towards Bart but it's not real love, maybe she does like him a lot but she doesn't really really love him. She's just sticking with Bart because of his inheritance because she wants to have some of it and since she knows he's really into her...well,she took advantage of him🙄😭

I like her dry remarks tho, maybe it's just me but she makes me snort and chuckle sometimes. I also like her voice cause I think it's beautiful and really seductive, and really suitable for her character. She plays crazy pretty well for me too👀👀

5. Sandra

Oh, one of my favorite characters! Deym, she is so precious and I love her so much! She is a nurse that worked for the Walfords for a few months. She is bubbly, nice, loving, caring, and fearless. She puts the arrogant and stubborn ass of his boss in place which I love the most! She's not afraid to talk back to Phillip lol😂😭😂😭 she even called him an over privileged white man with anger issues when he's too stubborn while she's caring for him,,, that line was gold😭✊

Behind her smiles and witty remarks, she's actually going through something very hard in her life. Her son got disabled after getting involved in a skateboarding accident, her husband left them because of guilt, and since then she's been taking care of him🥺 which makes the working for the Walfords situation a saving grace for them.

Together with Cate, they schemed something against Phillip. They made him think that he has Danny's heart. She doesn't really want to fool the old man but because she was promised a fortune,,, for her son,,, even if the means weren't good,,, she said yes. It just shows her big respect and big trust on Cate, but I think, however close they are,,, fooling people isn't just in her moral compass so she'd probably get guilty about it😔

6. Sophia Grey

First off,, I think she's a great mom. I like how she really exerted effort to make the right things even if it costs her a lot. However,,apparently she has a trait which makes her act like everything is about her when it's actually not BUT atleast she could swallow her pride and she would actually try to make things right, which I think, deserves an applause👏👏 I mean that's rare for a parent to admit they're wrong👀👀

She's a loving mom, wife, and friend. She's not perfect but she makes effort on making herself a better person which I think the other characters lack lmaoooo😂😭😂😭I like how her love for her children is so big, and she's pretty much a normal mom. She is supportive of her children's shenanigans and all she wants is to see her children happy🥺

If she found out that she got lied to, I think she'll lose her respect for the Walfords👀👀

7. Danny Grey

We only got to see so little about him but here's what I think: he's handsome lol,,, he's athletic of course, a loving son, a loving fiance possibly a real husband material, and a PASSIONATE man! I mean the love he has for his family, his fiance, and his sport is just so great🥺🥺

It's sad how we only got to see so lil about him since his death is the drive of the plot, so okay,,,

8. Bella Grey

Oh, babyyy🥺🥺🥺 she's Danny's sister who's a very veryyyy talented girl! She plays the piano, she's musically inclined, she's pretty, soft, precious, and lovely! I'm gonna fight anyone who says otherwise😤

She felt as if she's only a shadow of his probably popular brother which makes her feel invisible. She thinks she's plain and that she's just sooo thankful that she's talented or else she's just nothing🥺😭🥺😭 I think it's sad how she resorted to plastic surgery to make herself seen and noticed. It's sad how she thought that changing herself would make her seen which made her think that she is the problem but babyyy nooo!! 🥺😭🥺😭

I love her relationship with her mum! They're like bestfriends and it's so lovelyyy🥺💖I love how she has strong intuition noticing and feeling the Walford's patriarch's seemingly uncharacteristic approaches on them👀👀 so yeah, I love her🥺💖

9. Dr. Julian Lee

He's the hot cardiologist of Mr. Walford and Mrs. Walford's number 2 lol😂 he's a well-known doctor so he probably have the skillz and the brains no wonder Cate fell for him. So, he's pretty much a good guy despite having an affair with a married woman because in my eyes he seems to treat her better🥺🥺🥺

I like how he banters with Phillip and their exchange of spicy words are gold👌I see how hurt he was when Cate decided to break up with him because it seems to get better with her husband BUT HE LET HER GO OMG,,, maybe he truly loves her?? Because he just wanted her to be happy?? I really would have wanted to see more of him🥺😔

10. David Starke

He's the coach and he's a widower who fell in love with Sophia Grey. Hmmm,,, he's pretty hot too lmaooo... He's a giant! He's also kind of a low-key asshole,,,

He was pretty okay during the first few episodes, he's always there to give support to the Greys, maybe because he's really a nice guy or maybe it's because he loves Sophia and he sees her as his wife 👀👀 I just kinda hated him when he started being a dick to Bella's friend who was just joking! He said something like he doesn't like his humor and that that kind of humor is the last resort of being likeable if the person is not actually attractive and I was like whut bruh??? WhAt?🥴🥴

I'd love to see how his relationship with Sophia would continue especially that he was initially jealous of Phillip bec he was tooooo close to her (David doesn't know the reason why) and it was hinted in that godforsaken ending that they learned about the lie,, I would have wanted to see how he would react and how he would confront the Walford patriarch about it😔

11. Mikael

So he's the bearded buff diver guy. He was an ex military (?) and is now a mercenary. He's close to Georgia, I'm not just sure if it's just because of her money or something else. So he's pretty much a fucked up guy. He's clever, he's strong, he's hot, he's handsome, he's scary, and he's probably crazy too.

He does anything and everything, as long as you will pay him his price. He's also the type of guy who you should be afraid of getting on his bad side because he will make sure he would get back at you.

12. Bishop Welles

One of my most hated character, he's an enabler and I hate him😤 he's that calm old bishop who threw shade to Phillip Walford, a well-known business tycoon, during his friend's funeral. Like,,, he's saying that Phillip must have done something driving the death of his friend, Mr. Konig. Making Phillip withdrew all donations to that church lol

He also never believed Georgia's testimonies that she was being raped by her own father and even called her father to get her. He made her life worse.

F. Plot

To be honest, I liked the plot... I love how it started with having glimpses of how these families live their different lives away from each other. I like how the main motif of this series is revenge, greediness, and how family relationship differs,,, I really love how the plot is so new to me that it hooked me up into watching the whole thing making me look forward into it for every week. I remember doing the math so I could watch it live, having a mini heart attack when my Internet was being nuts lagging at the pivoting moments of the show, and squealing every time Philip goes to view lmaooo😂😭😂😭

I honestly like the twists and all, I really liked how the story went until that fucking ending.

8 eps in and I was like 😳 "gosh, there are so many happenings how would everything be resolved for the last two episodes??" and "there are more bombs to be dropped yet hcndkaodns." Then the writer went "haha, nonsense plot twists and cliff hangers go brr" and he basically ruined a good show I HATE IT SO MUCH. Maybe IF they're gonna renew the series and will have a season 2 where everything would be actually resolved like how a decent plot happens, then okay, I'll forgive you, Mr writer. But leaving us, the viewers, hanging like that after that wtf kind of ending is just too cruel and just too selfish 😔✊ I even recommended this show to my friends and they're pretty fine with it and like me, they think the plot is cool up until that stupid ending...

It was a real roller-coaster ride of emotions, I love how it made me feel. The constant 'oh my god, I love where this show is going' and 'this is so good' made me feel so happy except that ending...It was actually my stress-reliever although the plot is sooo stressful to the nth power lol

Will I recommend it to other people?? Well,,,, sureee why not?! I mean if I want them to know why I'm simping over a 60 year old big man, oh why not🤭🤭 For the story?? For revenge maybe? I just finished watching the untamed for the first time, currently just finished crying lmao I don't intend on reading the novel, but I'm looking for some reading so I was wondering if you had recommendation(s) (of fics or authors) for my first ever wangxian fic? I prefer non-au stuff, and would just like to read sweet, domestic wangxian :(( also what are the most popular fics in the fandom, and what do you think about them??

Right, so! When navigating Untamed fic, there are a couple things to know, namely that while the novel and the show are VERY similar there are still some key differences that will pop up in fic.

The novel ends with a confession and a tumble in the bushes and a marriage, so a lot of MDZS post-canon-based fic is Established Relationship

The show, as you know, ends with a brief separation and then the start of a reunion, which means a lot of Untamed post-canon-based fic is Mutual Pining (my preference, tbh)

Lan Wangji only becomes Chief Cultivator in the show

Body type differences: In the show, the resurrection ritual restores Wei Wuxian’s original body, but in the novel he’s brought back in the body of Mo Xuanyu so he, naturally, looks different pre- and post-resurrection (shorter, not as strong physically or magically); Lan Wangji in the novel is v tall, broad shoulders, golden eyes, etc.

Personality differences: Novel!Wei Wuxian is MUCH, MUCH less self-aware than show!Wei Wuxian when it comes to feelings, it’s a thing

You know that scene in Phoenix Mountain where they call each other soulmate/life-long confidant? That doesn’t happen in the novel. In MDZS WWX remains blindfolded against a tree and LWJ sneaks up and steals a kiss then runs away; WWX thinks it was a girl. I mention this an example of the different relationship trajectories for the canons, as show!Wangxian are very, very aware of the bond between them (even if WWX tried to push LWJ away during the first half of the Sunshot Campaign), while novel!Wangxian don’t fall into that interconnectedness until after WWX is resurrected because novel!WWX is 100% convinced LWJ still hates him.

Here’s the second thing to know, and the reason I blabbed about all of the above -- most authors play very fast and loose with which canons they draw from for any given fic.

Ex: they’ll make Lan Wangji Chief Cultivator but keep novel!Wei Wuxian’s obliviousness; they’ll write an epistolary fic set after the Untamed but have WWX be in Mo Xuanyu’s body; LWJ will have gotten 33 lashes instead of 300, etc etc.

You also can’t really filter on AO3 by only one fandom (Untamed or MDZS) because people tend to tag them both as a matter of course. It you want to make sure you’re catching all the fic, you need to be filtering by pairing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(Don’t worry, it’s not that bad once you get used to which elements are novel-specific, which you’ll pick up pretty quickly through osmosis, tbh.)

You, Asleep and Dreaming by etymologyplayground is the fic I’d go with first based on your preferences.

After that, I’d check out It's Only Time, Grand Pianos Crash Together, and Linger in the Sun. (NOTE: This author has been in the fandom since pre-Untamed, so their earlier fic is novel-based while later fic is set in Untamed-verse. All the fics I listed above are Untamed-based, though.)

Next! Gotta rec feyburner and their canon-based fic, I hope that you will come and meet me. (Also, if you ever want to try some modern AUs, this is the author I’d start with and go from there.)

Attila just came out with an amaaaazing fic, hunters seeking solid ground.

Ariaste has more AU fic, but their canon-fic A Civil Combpaign and it's sequel Besieged are hilarious. (Caveat - the pairing starts with Jin Ling/Lan Sizhui while Wangxian are married and meddling in the background. But trust me. It's hilarious.)

Fahye is also in the fandom! Go check all their stuff. (I REALLY want to rec their Green Knight/Untamed fusion, but it's not purely canon-based. Just making you aware that it's, you know, there.)

Anger born of worry and accidental marriage...

I would definitely have this be an "Another romp through history fic" but I would have difficulty choosing when to set it

Tropey as it may be, I would begin by having the husbands waking up after a night spent getting hammered to find rings on their fingers manifested out of thin air with an odd feeling of "Legitimacy in the eyes of one blackout drunk priest" hanging over them. And when they put two and two together; Chaos would obviously ensue. I feel a little bad for both of them. There's a lot of worry and stress in their tense friendship already: feelings of inadequacy, forbidden relationship, the whole "Can he even love me?" Drama on Aziraphale's side, ECT. I think they would have more than a few spats over the matter of them being sort of married and some awkward months spent not talking. I would end the fic on a bit of a downer with a hint of bittersweet: the two solemnly resolving to never EVER speak of it again but then reveal they both kept their rings.

I hope that was even coherent lol, I got a little excited.
