Not to keep beating a dead horse so to speak, but circling back to how the anime handles the Shuggy breakup it is personally the first time I've fully understood people who say the manga is way better & the "true" story because on the whole I think the anime is a really good adaption....except for this omg. I haven't read the manga fully either yet so now I'm wondering what else got a totally different vibe than intended & how that colors the perception of the story & characters. For instance, I'm already seeing anime onlys completely misinterpret Buggy's feelings in the shuggy breakup probably because of how brief it was.

I've had arguments in comments sections about people who do not think Buggy wanted to be Pirate King himself & his anger with Shanks isn't tied to him secretly sacrificing his OWN dream to follow him. To me the manga made it very clear that Buggy was making a great personal sacrifice in order to stay with his friend & how that all ties into his own insecurities, but a ton of anime onlys only saw it as Buggy being a whiny baby & not realizing how deep of a conflict Shanks refusing to look for the One Piece was for them 😭 and it's so frustrating! They just think Buggy is being "ungrateful" for everything Shanks did for him. I'm tired of the Shuggy dynamic being viewed so one sidedly in Shanks's favor & Buggy's detriment because they both narratively hold equal amounts of significance to each other. We just haven't been allowed to explore Shanks's side of it...yet. Oda kept Shanks's face obscured for a reason I'm sure.

And since the anime didn't frame it correctly Buggy's speech to Cross Guild about reigniting your dreams & setting sail for Laugh Tale loses all seriousness & comes off as just another gag instead & it breaks my heart because in the Manga while there is humor in it Buggy's tears are REAL & you can literally feel the spirit of One Piece flow through his speech. That speech shows us Buggy is a TRUE pirate! He ALSO inhereted Roger's will! I could literally feel the "I'm gunna become king of the pirates" OST from the anime play as I read it, but the anime framed it like another one of Buggy's "upward fialures" 💔 and it breaks my heart anime onlys don't get that. Imagine if Luffy gave up on his dream & finally after 30 years decided to believe in himself again? Imagine If Usopp really did give up in Water 7 & we didn't see him find the will to believe in himself until 39 years later? Buggy is an example of forgotten dreams & a lesson on it never being too late to go after them.

So I completely agree with you that it doesn't matter how little panel time a moment gets because if Oda can convey all of THAT in like 3 panels then the anime can do so and then some in a minute or 2. I also can't help but think this will confuse viewers later on because I'm certain Buggy is going to get to do some really cool & meaningful stuff in the last arc & a lot of them will feel blindsided because the set up was executed weirdly.

I love your comparisons to other characters giving up on their dreams because it's so real. Buggy is the representation of people who once gave up on their dream and now are getting the courage back to follow it again. His speech is so emotional I think I know it by heart at this point with how many times I've read this chapter. basically, the missingno ramble came about bc i always thought that initially, pokemon were always supposed to be able to be turned into data and shit. eg, how pokeballs even work, how the pc works, how trading works, etc.

this is kind of long ( not really but a few paragraphs ( nevermind i made it longer. ) ) so im gunna put it under a readmore just so i dont irritate ppl in whatever tags i put this in

idk if theres evidence for this, it just feels like pokemon implied that more and has been recently backtracking and going "oh no theyre not actually like DATA lol." and kind of retconning it. but maybe im pulling all of this out my ass but idk it felt early gen pokemon was much more in that sort of direction. there were a lot of different directions in early gen pokemon in general, i feel

ANYWAYS given that i subscribe to that more than whatever theyre doing with the canon explanations for shit now ( also not helped by my general fascination with technology, ai, and glitches esp in fiction and how interesting they are if written well ), i think missingno is just . a glitched pokemon. which obviously. but. Like. it used to be a pokemon. they can be made easily if something fucks up in the data transfer from physical to pokeball or pc or during trading or something like that.

well, maybe not easily- i imagine missingnos are only made from particularly bad cases of this. complete malfunctions and breaks, probably. which would also be why missingno and glitch pokemon like the bad egg, M', female symbol, ? symbol, whatever other ones you can think of were much more prominent early gen and pittered out more in later games ( not entirely obviously, but yknow ) - technology advanced more and became more secure so these types of things happened less often.

and i think in terms of possible mew clone, they are clones of mew that could not turn into ditto because an error happened technologically. instead of biologically/physically, which is how ditto wouldve been made. why are they in the shore? who knows. maybe theyre kind of thoughtless and just somehow get physically dumped into the cinnabar shore. god knows why its kind of hard to integrate game glitch to actual story/lore but by god im doing it.

anyways. because of this in strangled red, i think missingno isnt an all powerful entity. i think its just something that fills miki's corpse with garbage data and puppets her around like a zombie. which would be oddly fitting for a pokemon that i think could be caused by a trading fiasco or other technological malfunctions that happen to pokemon in those sorts of things.

miki just got the worse of it physically, not glitch-wise. she just died. which, at least she got to go out and not be in eternal limbo. until, well, steven stepped in, but who knows if shes even sentient enough or if her soul is even in missingno-ified miki at all. i think its slightly there, just a fragment of it- but its mostly a husk.

when the trading incident happened, i imagine that if there's an error the failsafe in whatever trading mech you use immediately sends the pokemon back to the original trainers, but something screwed up in the wiring so she likely turned physical at the wrong time while still in the trading tube, which then ended up with the wires being wrapped around her neck, or maybe even stabbing into it.

i like to think in the strangled red universe it's a not very common thing that maybe even was the first or only reported incident. steven and mike just got extremely unlucky.

... which probably did not help stevens rage about the incident, losing his prized unique charizard who could evolve faster than any charmander ever has, and tank supereffective damage easily amongst other things and to the fact that it probably only happened to him. or at minimum a few other people ever.

why does steven know about missingno? likely tales when he was in cinnabar during his original journey about it. strangled red is a year or so before the canon story but i doubt the mewtwo thing happened exactly a year before reds story, so missingno still being there. yknow. makes sense if you think it exists like how ditto does. ( failed mew clone ) .

the only reason missingno has power is because it is a glitch, it is corruption, physicalized - in a way it was not meant to be even further than how a glitch is. pokemon can turn into data. you can see how that'd work. anything that can be digitized in the pokemon world, it has power over. i imagine something thats meant to be there like a normal pokemon or human would get corrupted by it if it touched or remained in an area too long, or if it were commanded to attack. which is why missingnos in universe have insane levels, odd or stolen cries ( along with the fact some of them just used to be a normal pokemon likely ), and are physically just a jumble of data or taking images from random pokemons appearances, and even the skeletons or ghosts of them.

ironically they are like miki, but if miki after the incident corrupted digitally and physically, and went into a state of limbo instead of outright just dying due to technical malfunctions. they probably barely remember their former lives or what they were supposed to be and become very mindless.

i also think this has interesting implications for the trade incident if it ever happened again with pokemon with trade evolutions. i don't think they'd die, i think they'd become corrupted in a similar but different way to missingno - like an unintentional and glitchy evolution akin to porygon-z.

anyways.

steven is desperate for anything and everything to bring her back, and maybe tried multiple methods beforehand if you think he was that desperate, but hey. missingno worked. even if miki's just a puppeted corpse being controlled by a mindless thing that used to be a pokemon. who is ironically, controlling a corpse of a pokemon.

i find aizen incredibly alluring, very handsome, smart, capable, most likely well endowned etc etc. but let's direct our attention to pre-defection aizen, when he had glasses and was the captain of the 5th division. i find this aizen attractive too, but it's a lot more subtle and there's something about him that's literally so hypnotizing that you can't help but want to get close to him, to pick at his brain, to see how he thinks and feels— just get to know him fr, because very little personal information about him is known. and that of course intrigued you. it's like....you wouldn't expect him to be anything besides the way he is now, with his soft, almost demure personality of his, the way his glasses sat at the bridge of nose, his brown locks that brushed against the skin of his forehead and cheekbones....

oh. this was starting to sound a little romantic wasn't it? you soon came to terms with the fact that it became more than just being curious about the brunette captain. and he seemed to take an interest in you too, a co-lieutenant of another squad. maybe it was something you said, or your always greeting him whenever the two of you crossed paths, but gradually, sosuke aizen was becoming more and more of a 'friendly' occurrence in your life.

you hadn't realized just how....suave aizen could be. it didn't occur to you how pleasant you found his voice whenever he spoke about...literally anything. even the most dull of shinigami duties or regulations, you'd find yourself listening to him intently, hanging onto his every word as if he were spinning some thrilling, fantasy tale for you. at times, you thought you'd needed more rest, or more sunlight— something just had to be wrong because you could have sworn that he uttered something borderline flirtatious (a little too close to your ear), his gentle voice dipping a little too deep. yeah, you must have been working too hard, there was no other logical explanation. you must have been confusing his kind nature for him actually being fond of you in a way that suggested that the two of you were more than acquaintances or comrades. you had to have imagined the lidded look in his eyes whenever he addressed you, the hand that inched from the your shoulder then to your back...then a little lower down your spine at times.....

yes, all of this was just your imagination. this happens when you get close to someone you know next to nothing about right? yeah....right. so you constantly had to ignore the flutter in your chest whenever aizen so much as glanced in your direction and gave you one of those soft smiles that seemed to hypnotize you (and everyone else). you had to ignore the increasing desire to gain his attention, to carve out a place for yourself in his soul— to mean something to him that was more than just an acquaintance within the gotei 13. your simply just being inquisitive turned into something else, you had to toss a blanket over the flames of longing for aizen that grew in the pit of your stomach with each interaction. 

friends—yes you could for sure call yourselves that now over how close you’ve grown to him (he even seems to feel the same), feel this way about their other friends don’t they? you were sure they did. you were sure it was normal to hang out with one another after hours, when most squad members were either in their own quarters, sleeping, or hanging out with their friends. so you didn’t think much of aizen’s....intriguing request to meet him outside near the woods at dusk, and walk back with him to squad five’s barracks, your little heart reveling in how he “just wanted your company because i’ve hardly seen you today”. you didn’t think too hard about his insistence on accompanying you to his personal captain’s quarters, and ignored the heat building up in your body when you hear the door fatefully slide shut. the noise was almost deafening, and the few candle lights scattered throughout the dimly lit room didn’t make the atmosphere any less.....secretive or intimate. 

you stopped questioning the events that unfolded in the blink of an eye— matter of fact you could hardly think straight at all with aizen’s lips now on top of your own, dancing to a melody only the two of you could hear. it was slower, sweeter, cheekier kind of dance only the both of your lips seemed to know. he sat against the wall, and you were on his rather broad lap, feeling yourself so so close to melting every time his lips brushed against some exposed part of your skin. the kiss started off experimental, seeing if it was okay, and then it shifted into something more exploratory, discovering new crevices of each other’s mouth you’d never thought you’d experience first hand. that’s when his hand slid down to the back of your neck, a silent captain’s order to ‘stay still. stay right here and let me do i would like to you’ and damn, did you comply so damn fast. a breathy sigh you just couldn’t stop in time escaped from your lips and filtered into his. unfortunately, your eyes were closed, you were too lost in the moment to see the twitching smirk on his pretty plump lips. aizen effortlessly pulled out another dull whine from you when his big palms landed to rest on your waist, leading him to pull you a little closer to him. soon enough, bit by bit, drops of an intense passion seemed to leak into the kiss, as he subtly began to grind your crotch areas against each other— it wasn’t a completely distinguishable movement but you noticed it. how could you not? all your senses were on high alert. you soon grew needier, more desperate and it had become blaringly obvious you wanted needed more. and as soon as you were about to obtain it— it being right in front of your face— your robes already slipping off your shoulders, and your cleavage directly in his view when he started placing kisses on your neck....

he stopped. 

aizen pulled his now slightly swollen lips away from you, so slow that the smacking noise of his mouth withdrawing from your skin elicited another soft whine of protest from deep within your being. aizen’s soft smile of endearment was a thin veil meant to cover up the amused smirk that adorned his gorgeous features. it almost.....almost looked a little mean. no, you must have still been on the high that making out with captain aizen had brought you. you were just imagining that

your mouth hung slightly agape, your chest rising and falling, as you tried to gather the words and ask why. why did he stop? why in the hell did he stop? why did he even bring you here in the first place? why was he acting like this recently? why—

“i apologize,” his mellow, dreamy voice snapped you out of your own head, and made you dart your eyes back to his lidded, bespectacled brown ones. his naturally deep voice reverberated within every bone in your body causing a sharp tingle to shoot up your spine, causing your figure to twitch in his lap. 

“i’m afraid that something has come up, and i need to attend to it immediately. hopefully you can forgive me for...interrupting our good time.” his palms absentmindedly grazing and squeezing the junction between your hips and thighs prevented you from completely processing what he said. you didn’t even question what it was that he had to do at this hour.

he offered you another warm smile. “perhaps we can continue tomorrow night?”

and then he’d depart, leaving you in his personal quarters (a wordless invitation to sleep there? you weren’t sure but the thought made your heart race again). the adrenaline and excitement you felt from being in such an intimate, compromising position with a captain greatly overrode the budding feeling in the back of your mind, that this wouldn’t occur again for quite a while.
