I’ll never forgive the way they reduced Luther’s personality to a joke just cause you guys didn’t like him in season one cause you all can’t handle complex characterizations. I’ve got news for you: everyone of the hargreeves has faults and defects, you can’t babying one of them for their traumas then blame the others just cause you don’t relate to them like you relate to the other one.

If you ever doubt your own fanfics, just remember that the umbrella academy season 4 exists and it was approved by multiple people

Listen, the most heartbreaking part of all this, for me, is that David Castañeda basically begged the showrunners not to do the story line and they did it anyway.

I really wanted to comment on Klaus and his portrayal in this season but I just... don't even know where to start. The amount of unpacking that is needed to address him being forced into non-consensual sexual scenarios and then acting like nothing happened is just too overwhelming for me. Doesn't help that I skipped majority of his scenes because I was either too bored or too uncomfortable.
What I will say, however, is that Klaus (or rather how he is utilized in the show) has always been problematic and season 4 just made it glaringly obvious. They love using him as a comic relief and having him go through these absolutely traumatizing scenarios, acting like it's all just one big joke the whole time. And it's inherently problematic how this queer and mentally unwell man's bodily autonomy and boundaries are always treated so unseriously.
It was bad enough in season 2 when Ben possessed his body for, basically, a fling. But this season really makes it so much worse and seeing that they do it repeatedly, despite the fans expressing and pointing out how harmful that is... There really is no excuse. It's a pattern. And it's concerning to say the least.
And it's not like they're doing this to make a comment about the world and real people who experience these things. It's always framed as humorous, always presented as 'oh, silly Klaus, always getting himself into trouble'.
The lack of care or consideration for the fans in this season is astounding and, honestly, genuinely scary at times.

In s1, Five tells Allison he wants to live long enough to meet Claire.
In s4, Five and Claire never interact.
This is the most consistent show of all time, WOW!

I can’t forgive the show endlessly wanting to redeem or soften Reginald Hargreeves. In two timelines he buys children to experiment on and then train as child soldiers to fight crime. And in this world, unlike the comics, there don’t even seem to be supervillains. They just stop robberies. Like actually there isn’t any need *for* a superhero team besides creating a very specific sort of hero complex and sense of responsibility and sacrifice in them. And of course to profit off their image and then not give them any sort of trust or royalties when they hit majority. Like we see he just needed them so they could be drained for the machine in s3 and watch out for an apocalypse- everything else was unnecessary.
And the show focuses into s4 about Viktor’s issue being that he deserved to wear uniform. None of them should have ever been fighting crime to begin with, there should never have *been* an Academy.
#reginald hargreeves#tua s4#tua spoilers#like in s1 it was clear how shit and sad that all was and now its s4 and theyre like ‘no this was the goal’#he can be a weird alien man who doesnt understand human empathy but it sucks this obsession with his feelings over the victims of his cult

They keep making fat jokes about Diego (which I already don't like because of the fatphobia of it all. The guy has 3 kids and works as a delivery driver, of course he's not fucking ripped anymore)
But David Castañeda looks....exactly the same as every other season, so it literally makes no sense?
Edit: AND THEN HE TAKES OF HIS SHIRT LATER AND HE'S LITERALLY SUPERHERO RIPPED SO WTF WAS THAT EVEN ABOUT?!

I feel genuinely bad for the Umbrella Academy cast right now- especially David, Aidan, and Ritu. Like the whole cast who spent years on these characters and the world got the most upsetting ending with no resolution after a season of disjointed plot and lost characterization. Then David specifically said he was upset about how Diego was treated in this season, Aidan said we’re all going to hate Five (I can’t that ain’t Five thats an imposter) and saw a character he grew up playing get demolished, and Ritu had Lila being used as a prop piece bc Blackman decided Five ‘needed romance’ and just had to wait until Aidan was legal and used a six year jump to make it ok.
#tua spoilers#tua s4 spoilers#tua s4#how the writers who made s1 could make s4 is insane to ME#but I could tell they had strong plot for 1st season and then just decline from there s2 is fairly good but s3 I already thought had so many#issues just for s4 to be a disaster

i think i’m just sad that none of them got to grow before they died
luther was still living in the manor, which he’s always done for his whole life. so much of his arc has been about outgrowing this place and learning to leave. but he still winds up in the ruins of the place he grew up in. i could’ve believed it as a character choice IF we hadn’t already seen luther figure out how to live independently in the world in dallas. instead it was a regression
diego deserved to break the cycle of abuse!! he’s always been softer than he lets himself be, the role of father should’ve been a really big thing for him. and yet he ends the season without his kids and with the whole mess with lila and five. they spent the whole season trying to convince me he was a loser and a failure when he seemed really normal and trying his best. which is exactly what he was as a child, designated number 2 and never good enough.
i was a big s3 allison defender but then they did NOTHING with all the big swings they took with her character, so it was all for nothing?? ray walks out?? (which seems so ooc for him but i guess it was an actor scheduling thing) no conflict with claire very little resolution with her family and no introspection into what her choices and control issues mean for her.
klaus had this whole storyline with his powers and then didn’t get to use them at all… like that’s literally insane. it felt like they were really setting klaus up to reflect on his relationship to addiction and the parts that are and are not related to his powers, but then it just stops. he doesn’t apologize, he doesn’t get comforted, doesn’t learn to save himself, and he just dies, which is such a waste of a character that’s always represented an interesting blurring of life and death. i really would’ve liked to see klaus get some autonomy this season, since so much of his life is other factors making decisions for him, but nope.
five. i don’t even think i have to say anything here.
ben loses so much character autonomy halfway through this season. he’s another character who’s always been at the mercy of others, maybe most of all, and he doesn’t even feel like a main character in the season ABOUT him.
viktor has some moments with getting to confront reggie, but even those fell flat for me tbh. the line from reggie saying “you deserved to wear the mask” just proves that none of them ever understood that NONE of those children should’ve been in the masks in the first place. vik had built a genuinely good life for himself and didn’t get to keep it. dying as an umbrella martyr is not revolutionary when they’ve all been doing that their whole lives. living as a happy, normal person is actually much more radical. also he should’ve got his violin back.
