thinking about patroclus and the moon will sing by the crane wives
it's so fitting because of course, i, zach, would know that patroclus killed sarpedon and was also taught how to ride horses by fucking poseidon ??? (still questioning that one)
but everyone else doesn't
they only know achilles and patroclus
the greatest of the greeks! and patroclus ??? like his whole legacy is achilles. people know him as achilles' lover (or 'dearest friend' but literally look at them)
'i shine only with the light you gave me' is literally him. that is literally patroclus after stealing achilles' armor. they only won because patroclus presented himself as a false sun, the damn fucking moon, june (rhymes!).
it's always and patroclus, or achilles' lover, or his companion, or his closest friend, the guy that stole achilles' armor, but he's never a standalone name to most people
yeah uh anyway, stream the moon will sing
zach i saw this while i was cramming my fili paper and i had to stop and try not to cry for a bit

My thoughts on the champion!Patroclus au are so disorganized I have not slept, but know that the main reason for its existence is that fictional men are infinitely more attractive when sweaty and covered in blood

Do you ever think of Achilles seeing him and Patroclus in Zagreus and Thanatos.
Like considering how Than's usual spot is really close to the place Achilles usually is, he surely has listened their convos and their behavior reminded him of him and Pat.
Do yall see my vision

Nestor : im pleased to see my youngest is settling well in the army !
Antilochus being hand-fed figs by Achilles.
Patroclus stripping Antilochus almost naked to treat a minor injury on his chest.
Patroclus and Achilles bathing Antilochus after a battle.
Achilles pressing himself against Antilochus and holding his body to show him the best position to use a bow.
Antilochus sitting between Patroclus' thighs, who's combing his hair.
After a night of drinking wine together, Antilochus falling asleep in Achilles's tent, held tightly between him and Patroclus.
Nestor : aww look at him, hes already forging fraternal bonds

Just thinking about Hector when he thought he bested Aristos Achaion. He beat his fate, he saved his city, only to pull the helmet off and see that he killed the one thing Achilles loved and supposedly kept him human.

“He whom I value more than all others, and love as dearly as my own life? I have lost him”
- the Iliad
“When he died, all things soft and beautiful and bright would be buried with him.”
- the Song of Achilles
“Say that there were two boys who raced each other to the sunrise. Say that one went too far, and the other went with him”
- Aristos: the Musical @aristosmusical
Gouache on paper
Here’s teenage Patroclus and Achilles, soft and carefree and unknowing of their fate, plus some quotes that twist my gut every time I read them
